In today's reading we will cover Matthew Chapters 8:5-13 and 11:1-19, and Luke Chapter 7:1-35.

Today' we will read about the healing of the centurian's servant as well as Jesus bringing a woman's son back to life for her and then learn that these very events were proof of Jesus being the Messiah prophesied about throughout the Old Covenant! Jesus himself told the John's disciples that He was the Promised One, the One the people had been waiting for, and had been written about by the prophets.  We will read the scripture verses in Isaiah that specifically spoke about the healing and rising of the dead that Jesus fulfilled in His answer to John's disciples when they asked if He was the Promised One or if they should wait for someone else: Isaiah 26:19, 35:5-6, 29:18-19, and 61:1. Jesus will also confirm for us that John was the Elijah that the prophet Malachi wrote about who was to come before Jesus and prepare the way for Him. We will read Malachi 3:23. Malachi also spoke about John in Malachi 3:1.

Jewish believers in the Messiah are considered "Complete Jews." We, as Gentile believers in the Messiah, are not Jewish but have been grafted into God's family tree, much the way the Centurion army Officer was a Gentile believer. Our God is a God of unification. There is ONE family tree. We are all of ONE Spirt- God's Spirit! It is far more accurate for us to say that we are Gentile believers in the Messiah than to make up divisions such as "Christian, Baptist, Protestant, Lutheran, Presbyterian, non denominational, etc." Instead, we need to consider ourselves ONE in the family of God.

Why are these things important for our daily application? We can be confident that our faith is in the TRUE Messiah promised by God. Jesus fulfilled ALL the prophecies written about the Promised One, who would be Anointed by God. This means we need to be following all of Jesus' teachings, like we read yesterday, when we learned that it is not enough to simply call Jesus Lord. We need to be doing what God wants us to do, part of which is observing His Appointed Times, His Moadim, which are rapidly approaching for us- the Feast of Trumpets, which will be fulfilled in the blowing of the Great Shofar when God causes the Rapture, as well as the Feast of Booths, also known as the Feast of Tabernacles, which will be fulfilled by Jesus when He returns to Tabernacle, (dwell/live) with  us. We learned yesterday that God values those who teach others to obey His Word so I am encouraging you to prepare your hearts to observe these festivals that God commanded to be observed forever.

Jesus Fulfills Prophecy

00:01:44
Speaker
I just love this event. Today, we are going to be seeing how Jesus fulfilled prophecy.
00:01:51
Speaker
We are going to be reading about how Jesus tells the followers of John the Baptist to refer to the prophecies about him when they ask him if he is the one that they have been looking for or if there is someone else yet to come.
00:02:08
Speaker
but We are going to start our reading off with a story about the captain's servant. This is a man who loved his servant so much that he wanted him to be saved. And he sent a message for Jesus to save him so that he wouldn't die from his illness.
00:02:26
Speaker
There once was a Roman army captain who lived in Capernaum. He had a servant who was very special to him. But his servant got very sick, and he was so sick, he was almost dead.
00:02:40
Speaker
Now Jesus had gone back to Capernaum, and the captain heard that Jesus was in town, so he sent some Jewish leaders to meet with Jesus. Our big Bible says elders, and um one of the accounts says that he went himself, but he's still got the message there.
00:03:00
Speaker
He sent them to ask Jesus to come to his house. He wanted Jesus to make his servant well. When these leaders came to Jesus, they begged him to help.
00:03:10
Speaker
The captain is a good man, they said. He loves our nation. He even built our town's worship house. So you should help him and you should make his servant well.
00:03:23
Speaker
Jesus went with the leaders, but the captain had sent some friends to meet him too. And they met him on his way to see the captain. They gave Jesus another message.
00:03:35
Speaker
This message said, Lord, don't bother to come. I'm not good enough for you to come to my house. that's why I didn't come to you myself. I'm not good enough to see you.
00:03:49
Speaker
Just say the word. Then I know my servant will be well again. You see, know about being in charge, the message said.
00:04:00
Speaker
I have a boss to obey, and I'm the boss of many other men. I tell one to come, and he comes. I tell another one to go, he goes.
00:04:12
Speaker
I tell my servants, do this or that, and they do what I tell them.
00:04:19
Speaker
Jesus was surprised to hear this. He looked at the crowd following him and he said, I have not seen such great faith in the land of Israel before.
00:04:33
Speaker
People will come from the east, said Jesus, and people will come from the west and they will eat a big dinner with Abraham in God's kingdom. And Isaac and Jacob will be there, but other people will be thrown out into the dark.
00:04:49
Speaker
They will cry there. Then Jesus sent word to the captain. You believed i would make your servant well. I will do just what you believed.
00:05:01
Speaker
And at that moment, the captain's servant got well.

Miracles and Compassion

00:05:07
Speaker
The friends he had sent to Jesus went back home and they saw that the captain's servant was well.
00:05:17
Speaker
Getting son back. Jesus and his friends headed toward a town called Nain. A big crowd was with them, and they came up to the town gate.
00:05:28
Speaker
People were coming out of the town through the gate, and the people were carrying a dead man. The dead man was the only son his mother had. The man's father had died sometime before, many people were there with his mother.
00:05:46
Speaker
Jesus saw the dead man's mother Don't cry, he said. His heart was very sad for her. Jesus touched the long box that held the body, and the people who were carrying it stood still.
00:06:04
Speaker
Jesus said, Young man, get up. And the man who had been dead sat up, and he began to walk, and he began to talk. So Jesus gave him back to his mother.
00:06:19
Speaker
He was alive. Everyone was surprised and they praised God. They said, this man, Jesus, is a great prophet.
00:06:32
Speaker
God is here helping his people.
00:06:36
Speaker
And the news about Jesus went quickly all over the land.
00:06:42
Speaker
Our last section is entitled, What Did You Come to See?
00:06:47
Speaker
Now John, the one who had baptized people, had some followers. And John was in jail, remember, for telling King Herod that he should not have been married to his brother's wife.
00:07:01
Speaker
they And they told John what Jesus was doing. So John asked two of them to go to Jesus. And he told them to ask Jesus a question. Are you the one we've been waiting for, or should I look for someone else?
00:07:18
Speaker
Now at that time, Jesus was making many sick people well. He was sending many bad spirits away. He was making many people see again.
00:07:30
Speaker
So Jesus said, go back to John and tell him everything you have seen. Tell him everything you have heard. People who couldn't see before can see now.
00:07:43
Speaker
People who couldn't walk before can walk now. People with skin sickness are well, said Jesus. And people who could not hear before can hear now.
00:07:55
Speaker
Dead people are coming to life.
00:07:59
Speaker
Poor people are hearing again, are hearing the good news. Good things will come to people who keep following me. So John's followers went back to tell John.
00:08:14
Speaker
Then Jesus talked to the people about John. What did you go out to the desert to see? He asked them. Did you go to see plants blown by the wind?
00:08:26
Speaker
If not, what did you think you would see? Did you think you would see someone dressed in fine clothes? No, people who wear fine clothes are in palaces.
00:08:39
Speaker
So what did you go to see in the desert? Did you go to see a prophet? Yes, said Jesus. But John is more than a prophet.
00:08:51
Speaker
He is the one Malachi wrote about. Malachi wrote that God would send someone with a message and that person would help people get ready for me.
00:09:03
Speaker
Here on earth, there is nobody greater than John. But in God's kingdom, even the smallest is greater than John.
00:09:14
Speaker
The law and the prophets told all about what was to happen to John. What was to happen until John came. I'm going to reread that. Sorry about that. The law and the prophets told about all that was to happen until John came.
00:09:29
Speaker
John is the prophet like Elijah, who was supposed to come. Hear this, if you have ears, said Jesus. People listened to what Jesus said, and they said that God's way was the right way.
00:09:46
Speaker
Even men who took tax money said this. They had been baptized by John.
00:09:53
Speaker
Some Jewish leaders had not been baptized by John, so they would not take what God had planned for them. They said they knew all about the law already. What are these people like?
00:10:06
Speaker
asked Jesus. They are like children who sit in the marketplace. They call to each other and they say, we played the flute for you, but you didn't dance. We sang a sad song for you, but you didn't cry.
00:10:21
Speaker
John came and did not eat bread or drink wine, said Jesus. So you say a bad spirit controls him. I come and I do eat bread and drink wine. So you say this man eats too much and he's a drunk and he's a friend of tax men and he's a friend of sinners.
00:10:39
Speaker
But I say, being wise is what is right. And you can see that by watching a wise person.
00:10:50
Speaker
And that is the end of our reading today.

Prophetic Fulfillment and Recognition

00:10:57
Speaker
These were great counts of what happened, don't you think? So we see that Jesus saved the servant of the Roman ah army officer. Let's see, he's a, yes, a Roman army captain, not an officer who lived in Capernaum.
00:11:15
Speaker
And he was a believer in in Judaism, but he was not Jewish. He was a Roman army captain. So this was very important. He was not a Jewish believer. So he was considered a Gentile.
00:11:32
Speaker
And yet he knew that Jesus was who he said he was. He believed in Jesus. And he had enough faith in Jesus that he didn't even have to see him. Jesus didn't have to be anywhere near him.
00:11:43
Speaker
Jesus only had to speak it. And his servant would be well. Jesus was amazed at his faith. And then Jesus told them,
00:11:55
Speaker
the people who were following that people would come from all over at the great wedding feast. He's describing the wedding feast from the East and from the West.
00:12:08
Speaker
And they will eat a big dinner with Abraham and Jacob and Isaac, but other people will be thrown out. And he's referring to the unbelieving Jews because they did not believe
00:12:25
Speaker
And that's why he said, I haven't seen such great faith in the land of Israel before. He was coming to his own people, but the people were not all receiving him. The leaders were not receiving him. He was coming for the poor people and they were receiving him, but they were also coming because they wanted to be healed and he was tending to them.
00:12:45
Speaker
So then we see that God brought back the woman's son and she did not ask him to do this. Jesus has so much compassion and his heart went out to this woman. And it says that his heart was very sad for her because she had already lost her husband and now she had no son to even take care of her.
00:13:10
Speaker
And so he brought that man back to life, that young man. And it says that he gave the man back to his mother.
00:13:19
Speaker
So this was reminiscent of Elijah when Elijah was being taken care of by a widow who had a son and he brought the son back to life when the when the mother asked him.
00:13:36
Speaker
But in this case, Jesus's encounter with the woman, she did not ask, he simply did it. Jesus was even greater than Elijah.
00:13:49
Speaker
Then we see that when John's followers asked Jesus if he was the one that they had been waiting for, he was actually quoting from scripture, that he was fulfilling scripture.
00:14:03
Speaker
And he had done so when he healed the man, ah the young man, as well as when he brought that woman's son back to life. So we're going to look at those verses that he fulfilled from the book of Isaiah.
00:14:20
Speaker
In Isaiah chapter 35, verses 5 and 6, Isaiah says, Then the eyes of the blind will be opened and the ears of the deaf unstopped.
00:14:31
Speaker
Then the lame will leap like a deer and the tongue of the mute will sing. For water will burst forth in the desert and streams in the wilderness.
00:14:44
Speaker
And then we also have chapter 26, verse 19.
00:14:50
Speaker
Isaiah says, we also have chapter 29, verse 18. your dead will live my corpses will rise awake and shout for joy you who dwell in the dust your due is like the dew of the dawn the land of dead souls will come to life
00:15:09
Speaker
and we also have chapter twenty nine verse eighteen That says,
00:15:17
Speaker
and out of gloom and darkness the eyes of the blind will see the meek will add to their joy in the lord and the needy of humanity will rejoice in the holy one of israel
00:15:32
Speaker
And in chapter 61, verse 1, Isaiah says, The Spirit of the Lord God is on me, because the Lord has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor.
00:15:44
Speaker
He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound.
00:15:56
Speaker
So Jesus answered John's followers with scripture. And that's why he said to them, tell him what you have, everything you have seen and tell him everything you have heard.
00:16:08
Speaker
People who couldn't see before can see now. People who couldn't walk before can walk now. People with skin sicknesses are well. People who could not hear before can hear now.
00:16:20
Speaker
Dead people are coming to life again. Poor people are hearing the good news. And good things will come to people who keep on following me.
00:16:33
Speaker
Jesus fulfilled the prophecies that God gave the prophets clear back from the time of Moses. God's first prophet. Isn't that amazing?
00:16:46
Speaker
We can know for certainty that Jesus is the Messiah. He fulfilled all the prophecies written about him in the Old Covenant. And not only that, but Jesus tells us here that John also fulfilled what God told Malachi when Malachi said that God would send someone with a message and that person would help people to get ready for him.
00:17:14
Speaker
And I have that here as well.
00:17:20
Speaker
In Malachi chapter 3, verses 23, says, Behold, I am going to send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and terrible day of the Lord.
00:17:33
Speaker
He will turn the hearts of fathers to the children and the hearts of children to their fathers, else I will come and strike the land with utter destruction.
00:17:44
Speaker
that was the last thing that Malachi wrote. That was the end of his writings. So we read all of this. So we knew that John the Baptist was going to be coming. We talked about the fact that John the Baptist would fulfill that.
00:17:57
Speaker
Everything Malachi had written about John and the one that God would send ahead of time to prepare the way, but make straight the paths for the Lord. And that's in another verse as well. I just don't have that one handy at the moment.
00:18:13
Speaker
And so we can know for certain that John the Baptist was also the one that Malachi sent to fulfill the prophecy. He made the way straight for Jesus.
00:18:25
Speaker
And here Jesus says that was his job, that he did that. He prepared the people to receive him. So we know that God's prophecies were all fulfilled.

Unity in Belief

00:18:38
Speaker
Did you know that when a Jewish believer believes in Jesus, he is considered a completed Jew? He doesn't convert to Christianity.
00:18:49
Speaker
He is considered, or she, they are considered ah complete Jew. Because that was the point of our old covenant, was that God was bringing his people, his chosen people,
00:19:02
Speaker
a Messiah, the Anointed One, who would save them from their sins and also, not just the Jewish people, but also the Gentiles. We, who believe in the Messiah and in the Old Covenant, are Gentile believers in the Messiah.
00:19:18
Speaker
It is so much more unifying to refer to us as Gentile and believers in the Messiah than it is to designate us as a whole different thing called Christianity.
00:19:30
Speaker
Because then within that, we have even more division. We have Baptist and non-denominational. We have Presbyterian. We have Protestant. We have um Lutheran.
00:19:42
Speaker
We have so many divisions. And really... God didn't create these divisions. People created these divisions.
00:19:53
Speaker
Our God is one of union and of reconciliation. In God, there is only Jew and Gentile believers. You are either a Jewish believer, and that is a whole separate people, or you are a Gentile who also believes in the Messiah.
00:20:12
Speaker
And that is what we are. Our God made us unified. so that we are all part of one religion. We are not part of a bunch of different religions.
00:20:24
Speaker
We are part of one religion. And it's the belief in God. We are Gentile believers in the Messiah. And Jesus came to be that Messiah, as we can see from his fulfillment in scripture.
00:20:39
Speaker
So I hope that you feel that that is something to think about. as as you go about your day and as you consider our daily application today, that God fulfilled this so that we could have Shalom.
00:20:53
Speaker
And Shalom, as we know, is wholeness. Not just peace. God brings us peace through Jesus in shalom. Because he puts his spirit in all of us.
00:21:06
Speaker
So if it's his one spirit in all of us, we are one. We have been grafted into the tree. There is one tree. There are not many trees. i have my tree. This is my family tree, but that's just our symbol here.
00:21:21
Speaker
My logo. Because we are all part of one family tree. We're not part of ah an orchard. There's one family tree in God's kingdom.
00:21:32
Speaker
and We have been grafted into it as Gentile believers in the Messiah.

Observances and Traditions

00:21:37
Speaker
Well, we also have some appointed times that are coming up here in ah September.
00:21:42
Speaker
We have it towards the end of September. I believe it is. We have the Feast of Trumpets, which is the blowing of the Shafar. And this will be fulfilled when Jesus comes ah with the rapture.
00:21:56
Speaker
That it will be fulfilled at that time. ah We are expected as Gentile believers in the Messiah to observe God's appointed times, his Moedim.
00:22:07
Speaker
And so I just wanted us to start thinking about those things. So that will be on Tuesday, September twenty third That is the day of blasting or shouting.
00:22:21
Speaker
It's also traditionally celebrated as the Jewish New Year, but that's irrelevant. ah That's not in the Bible or anything. It's just a celebration. We're not required to observe that. But God does expect us to observe the Feast of Trumpets with the blowing of the Shafar because we are Gentile believers in the Messiah.
00:22:40
Speaker
And that will be fulfilled, as I said, when the rapture happens with the great blowing of the great Shafar up in heaven. Then I want us to keep our ah mind thinking toward the following.
00:22:53
Speaker
Moedim, appointed time, when we begin the Feast of Booths, which will begin on October 7th, which is a Tuesday. And it goes for seven days until the, actually eight days, until the 14th of October. So from the October 7th through 14th, that is our Feast of Booths, where we live in tents for seven days.
00:23:21
Speaker
um Eight days on the eighth day rather was when we have an assembly. So we will talk more about that as the days approach. But I just wanted us to keep that in in mind ah because we will be wanting to observe those.
00:23:36
Speaker
Those are part of what we are called to observe forever, it says. So thank you for joining me today. i hope that you feel that God has given you a lot to think about and a lot to apply in your daily life.

Call to Action and Conclusion

00:23:48
Speaker
I know he does for me every single day. So if you don't mind, kindly do as always to click that light button and click the share button. Together, we want to spread the word about reading God's word.
00:23:59
Speaker
We want to teach others to obey. We read yesterday that God ah is very favorable toward those who teach others to obey his word. And that's what we want to do in sharing God's word.
00:24:12
Speaker
And that's why I'm telling you about these appointed times that are coming is that I'm encouraging you to obey God's word. And I want to encourage you to also share this so that other people will be aware and start preparing their hearts for these joyous times that we have coming.
00:24:30
Speaker
Because one day Jesus will come back again. And we want to be ready for those times. So I hope you have a fantastic rest of your day, whatever day you get around to watching or listening here on August 26th.
00:24:43
Speaker
And guess where I'll be tomorrow? Right here. You can find me. Have a great day, everybody.
