If you would like to download my FREE calendar for keeping track of your commitment to read the Bible every day, you can find that on my site, here: https://www.inthefamilywaycoaching.com/pages/read-the-bible-in-1-year

Monthly memberships to support this event can be purchased on my site, here: https://www.inthefamilywaycoaching.com/offering_packages

Today's reading will include the Books of Luke Chapter 19:11-28, Matthew Chapter 26:6-13, Mark Chapter 14:1-11, and John Chapters 11:55-12:11.

Today we will build upon yesterday's reading, where we learned about using the resources and gifts that God has given us to look out for one another, care for one another, and help further God's Kingdom by seeking those who are lost and showing them the way into our spiritual family. Today we will learn what happens when we do not value the gifts that God has given us by using them to invest in furthering His Kingdom or even growing in spiritual maturity. Who we are is a gift to the world. We have all been given gifts to use. When Jesus returns and we have not been working at the good works that God prepared for us to do and using who He created us to be, then what we were given will be taken from us and given to those who did value the gifts that God gave them. Satan wants to discourage us from being who God created us to be. Don't let him. Ask God for the name(s) that HE has given you. It will help you understand your purpose in life so that you do not feel like your identity is in being a mother, a father, a grandparent, a doctor, a cashier, etc. Instead, BRING YOUR IDENTITY INTO WHATEVER YOU DO and purposefully work toward serving others with your gifts and helping to direct lost brothers and sisters to our loving God and Savior!

Welcome and Introduction

00:00:02
Speaker
Hello so everyone! Today is September 21st. Thank you for joining me for today's Day by Day Kids Bible Reading as we go through the entire the Bible from Genesis to Revelation getting the whole big picture.
00:00:18
Speaker
I am so glad that you are joining us for our daily Bible reading. Thank you for being here whether you are following along on your podcast or whether you are watching the video. And if you have been here for a little while, then you know what time it is.
00:00:33
Speaker
It's time to take out that calendar. Go ahead and get your sticker out or whatever you're using to mark off those days because we are going to hear the Bible today.

Understanding Moadim and Biblical Timings

00:00:45
Speaker
I'm so glad that we are in today's reading. I keep forgetting to make announcement about our upcoming Moadim. And I want to talk about that before we get going in our reading.
00:00:56
Speaker
So this will that today's ah recording will be little bit longer. ah Sometimes we have a little longer days as we go into more details. Well, we have some special days coming and they are called appointed times.
00:01:11
Speaker
If you have been around this year, then you may be familiar with the term Moedim, but may have simply forgotten what it means. And it is appointed times. It means that God has set special days, appointments for us to meet with him and to come before him.
00:01:28
Speaker
And he is also going to be meeting with us. We had ah Passover earlier this year. We had the Feast of First Fruits. We had the count up to the 50 days in Shavuot, where we celebrated the receipt of the Holy Spirit.
00:01:45
Speaker
And since we are reading through the whole Bible, we are coming up to the time when Jesus is entering into the Passover holiday. But what's interesting is that our reading,
00:01:59
Speaker
actually ends up coinciding with our fall appointed time, which is the blasting of the shofar, as well as the Feast of Tents or the Feast of Tabernacles.
00:02:13
Speaker
So we have, ah after we have um the Feast of First Fruits and we have Shavuot, we have, that is the receipt or what we would say Pentecost of the Holy Spirit. And that is 50 days after Jesus rose from the dead.
00:02:32
Speaker
So then we have, uh, After that, later on in the fall, we have the blasting of the shofar. So what is the shofar? It is a ram's horn.
00:02:44
Speaker
Often our Bibles are translated as a trumpet, or sometimes it may say a horn, but it is the ram's horn. So it doesn't have buttons on it like a trumpet does, where it plays different notes.
00:02:57
Speaker
But every ram's horn is unique, and it sounds a little bit different. So why do we have the blasting of the shofar? Well, after Jesus rose and he ah told us we were going to receive the Holy Spirit, and we did, he also told us that he would come back.
00:03:18
Speaker
So before Jesus comes back, we will have the blasting of the shofar. And this was started back ah in Moses' this time.
00:03:31
Speaker
Moses was going to be ah receiving from God the Ten Commandments and other laws and rules as well. But before that happened, God told Moses for the people to prepare for him to descend into their camp.
00:03:49
Speaker
And he was going to come down in the cloud over the mountain and he was going to meet with them. And before God arrived, There was heard a great shofar blast from heaven.
00:04:04
Speaker
And this was the, ah I'm drawing a blank as to the word tonight. This was the ah the forerunner for when Jesus comes again.
00:04:15
Speaker
Because remember, Jesus is also one with God. So we have the shofar blast that an announced God's descending arrival.
00:04:26
Speaker
And we will have the shofar blast when Jesus returns. And that will be the sound that causes the rapture. The angels will blow the sound and then they will gather the believers.
00:04:41
Speaker
If you believe in the rapture. Some ah people believe it happens at different times in the Revelation timeline. ah But that is essentially what happens is that the shofar is blown and then the people are raptured.
00:04:58
Speaker
So this is to remember that Jesus will be coming again. And then we have the Feast of Tabernacles where tabernacle is when God dwells with us.
00:05:12
Speaker
And in the beginning, when God had rescued the Israelites from the Egyptian people from slavery, he lived among them. He tabernacled with them.
00:05:23
Speaker
And they had the worship tent, and it was a tabernacle. And that was where God's presence was. And he lived among the people. he he was His presence was there with them.
00:05:36
Speaker
And so that was the forerunning of when we would have that happen again. So we are to remember these things because it's a great deal of our time. For God, it is not a long time, but for us, it can seem like a very, very long time because we don't have the same a lifespan type of thing that God does. God has always existed, whereas our physical bodies are finite.
00:06:06
Speaker
They have a beginning and an end. So for us, we have all of these years that we have counted that have passed and for God, it is not much time, but he knows that we will forget.
00:06:18
Speaker
And so we have these appointed times, these Moedim, so that we don't forget these important things that he started and that he will finish the good work that he has begun.
00:06:32
Speaker
So eventually Jesus will come back and we look forward to that and we will be, he he will be welcomed and his arrival will be announced by the great shofar blasting.
00:06:44
Speaker
So that actually happens. Our celebration of the blowing of the shofar happens in just two days. on September 23rd this year in 2025.
00:06:59
Speaker
I don't know what day it will happen in later years, but and this recording is made in 2025. And so the blasting of the Shafar will occur in two days. And so that is meant to be a Shabbat rest, a Sabbath rest.
00:07:13
Speaker
It is meant to be a rest, a holiday. God gives us a day of rest on this amazing day where we are to remember that he will be coming again.
00:07:25
Speaker
And then after that, on October 7th, we start the Feast of Tabernacles. And this is to remind us of the time when God dwelled with the people in the desert, that he was with them for all that 40 years, that he saved them from their slave ah bondage.
00:07:45
Speaker
Now, we have not been physical slaves. However, we have learned recently in our reading that Jesus teaches us that we are ah we were previously slaves to our sin and that he has set us free.
00:08:02
Speaker
And if the Son has set us free, then we are free indeed. So we are to remember that we are no longer slaves to our sin and to look forward to the time when God will dwell with us, when Jesus will reign on earth and dwell with us.
00:08:22
Speaker
So it just so happens, just think this is absolutely amazing that as we are coming to close of Jesus's ministry time on earth into the time when he is crucified,
00:08:37
Speaker
and And we know that he will rise again. He rises on the third day. and it just so happens that this occurs for us on our daily reading on October 7th.
00:08:51
Speaker
Isn't that amazing? So we have, ah we are reading about that the Passover is

Parable of the Talents and God's Gifts

00:08:59
Speaker
about six days away. That was either in yesterday's reading or it's in today's reading. I forget at this moment.
00:09:06
Speaker
But so we have, two weeks of reading before we come to his resurrection and until we get to the Feast of Tabernacles for in our timeline.
00:09:18
Speaker
But I just think it's amazing that all of that teaching in that two weeks of time takes place in a short period of actual time. And when we get to that point, it will be on a Moedim.
00:09:33
Speaker
on the Feast of Tabernacles Day, where we begin to celebrate that for a week. That is incredible to me. God's timing is just amazing.
00:09:46
Speaker
It's even more amazing than the feast of then the blasting of the shofar happening on your birthday diamond. I think that those are amazing timings that we have happened that we have have are having this year.
00:09:59
Speaker
So I just wanted to bring those things up. And it ah was very important that we keep these in mind because these are holidays. So we want to prepare ourselves to be taking the day off in order to observe these festivals, these Moedim, these appointed times, these appointments with God.
00:10:19
Speaker
because they are commanded to be observed for all time. And so this is still part of time. They have not been fulfilled, all of them.
00:10:30
Speaker
Passover has been fulfilled, but Jesus says that he will be coming back. And so he will not drink that cup again until he returns. So without any further delay, let's get started with our reading for today.
00:10:46
Speaker
Thank you for being here. Yesterday in our reading, we were reading about what it means to that we need to serve each other. And we need to do so with our gifts that God has given us.
00:10:59
Speaker
And we want to be sure that we are using who we are, our gifts and our resources that God has given us. Because really everything comes from God and everything belongs to God.
00:11:11
Speaker
And we want to be sure that we are using them in order to further his kingdom and to serve others and to help bring those who are lost into our spiritual family, showing them the way that Jesus is the way. We want to point them towards the way of Jesus.
00:11:28
Speaker
Today, we are going to be seeing what happens in a story when we do not use what we have been given.
00:11:41
Speaker
that we don't think it's important. We don't maybe realize just how important it is to be who God created us to be. He has given us gifts to do good work with.
00:11:56
Speaker
And there is so much depth to our relationship with Jesus. That we want to be sure that we are also, among other things, using who God created us to be in order to further his kingdom.
00:12:10
Speaker
That is what Jesus meant when he said that he would take the disciples and make them fishers of men. So for me, a witness. a witness. i am detail-oriented and I can see things.
00:12:25
Speaker
And use the gifts that God has given me in observation to share these readings with you. And the Holy Spirit reveals things to me and then my name is witness.
00:12:38
Speaker
So I experience these things. He tells me about these things and then we talk about them and make sure that we understand them and how they are applicable in our lives every single day. And that is an example of how I am using who I am.
00:12:56
Speaker
I love to share about amazing things that God shows me. I like to joke and say, in all seriousness, that if God didn't want people to know something, he surely wouldn't tell me.
00:13:11
Speaker
because I just can't help sharing it.
00:13:15
Speaker
So that's an example. Now, God made you to be who you are. And it's very important to use who you are in God's kingdom. We do that by serving others with who we are and by helping to bring people who are lost Guidance to show them where Jesus is, to bring them to Jesus so we can make sure that they are part of our spiritual family, that they can find their way.
00:13:47
Speaker
So we're going to be learning about when ah people do and when people do not use what is given to them by God. We're going to learn about that today.
00:14:01
Speaker
So Jesus and his followers had just left Bartimaeus. And remember, Bartimaeus was the blind ah man who said he wanted to see again.
00:14:11
Speaker
And that was right after he met with Zacchaeus. And Zacchaeus had been a lost sheep. So remember, this all takes place within a within one week.
00:14:23
Speaker
The next two weeks of readings all take place and within about a one week span of time when Jesus was alive ah the first time. So Jesus and his followers were getting close to Jerusalem.
00:14:38
Speaker
Remember, they were traveling to Jerusalem for the Passover. And his followers thought about God's kingdom coming. They thought that it would show up right away. So Jesus told them a story.
00:14:54
Speaker
Once there was an important man, and he had to go to a land far away. He was going to have the people there make him their king. And then he would come back home, and he would be the king.
00:15:09
Speaker
So the man called ten servants, and he gave each one of them one piece of money. And he told them to use this money to get more money and see how well you can use it until I come back.
00:15:26
Speaker
Now some of the people hated this man and some of them followed him to the land far away. And they said, we do not want this man to be our king. But the man was made king anyway.
00:15:41
Speaker
And then he came home. When he came home, he sent for the servants who had the money that he had given them, and he wanted to find out what they had done with it.
00:15:53
Speaker
We would call this how they had invested it. So the first servant came to him, and he said, Sir, I made more money for you. You gave me one piece of money, and I got ten more.
00:16:08
Speaker
Well done, said the king. You are a good servant. I see that I could trust you with a little bit. So now you may be in charge of ten cities.
00:16:21
Speaker
The second servant came in to see the king and he said, Sir, I made more money for you. You gave me one piece of money and now I have five more.
00:16:34
Speaker
"'Well done,' said the king. "'You may be in charge of five cities.' "'Then another servant came to the king, "'and he said, "'Sir, here's the money that you gave me. "'I hid it in a piece of cloth "'because I was afraid that I might invest poorly or lose it, "'and you are a hard man to work for. "'You take what doesn't belong to you. "'You bring in crops you didn't plant.' And the king said, I see.
00:17:07
Speaker
So you know that I am a hard man to work for. Then why didn't you put my money into the bank? I could have made more money in the bank.
00:17:20
Speaker
Now other people were standing nearby. They heard what was going on. The king said, take the money away from this man and give it to the servant who has 10 pieces of money.
00:17:33
Speaker
And the people said, but he already has 10. ten And the king answered, everybody who has something from me will get more.
00:17:46
Speaker
But what if it means nothing to him? Then he will not be allowed to have more. And then even what I gave him will be taken away.
00:17:58
Speaker
And then the king looked for his enemies. And these were the people who didn't want him to be king. And he told his men to bring the enemies to him and kill them.
00:18:14
Speaker
Our next story goes on and it says that Jesus kept traveling toward Jerusalem. And now it was almost time for the Passover holiday. So lots of people were coming to Jerusalem and they were getting ready for the holiday.
00:18:28
Speaker
And they were looking for Jesus too. People were standing around the worship house. They were asking each other, what do you think? Do you think he will come for the holiday?
00:18:41
Speaker
But the leaders at the worship house sent word to the people. Anybody who knew where Jesus was had to tell these leaders. And they were looking for a way to catch Jesus.
00:18:54
Speaker
So now it was six days before the Passover holiday and Jesus came to Bethany. Remember that was the town where Mary, Martha and Lazarus lived. And Lazarus was the man who had been brought back to life by Jesus.
00:19:11
Speaker
A man named Simon also lived in Bethany and he had a dinner party for Jesus. Martha served the food there and Lazarus ate at the table with Jesus.
00:19:24
Speaker
But Mary, she took out her jar of nard, and this was perfume. And it was perfume that cost a lot of money. And she tipped the jar over.
00:19:37
Speaker
She poured ah the perfume out onto Jesus' feet. And then she wiped his feet with her hair. And the whole room and all the air was filled with the sweet-smelling perfume.
00:19:55
Speaker
Now Judas, who was one of the 12 helpers, said, Why didn't Mary sell this expensive perfume?

Mary's Anointing of Jesus

00:20:02
Speaker
Just think of the money she could have made with it. It would have been enough to pay a working person for a year.
00:20:09
Speaker
She could have given that money to the poor people. Now Judas didn't really care about poor people because he was a robber.
00:20:22
Speaker
He kept the money bag for Jesus and his friends, and he would take out whatever he wanted for himself. And Judas was the one who would turn against Jesus.
00:20:39
Speaker
Leave Mary alone, said Jesus. It was right for Mary to save this perfume. She got my body ready for the grave. Poor people will always be here, but I won't always be here.
00:20:54
Speaker
I am going to die.
00:20:58
Speaker
Now the news about me will be spread and shared all over the world, and then people will hear about what Mary did tonight, said Jesus.
00:21:11
Speaker
And many people found out that Jesus was in Bethany. So they went to Bethany and they didn't go just to see Jesus. They were going because they wanted to see Lazarus too.
00:21:22
Speaker
And that was because Jesus had brought him back to life. Now the leaders at the worship house made plans to kill both Jesus and Lazarus. They were angry about Lazarus because many people had seen that Lazarus was alive again.
00:21:38
Speaker
And then they believed in Jesus because of Lazarus.
00:21:44
Speaker
And that is the end of our reading today.

Using Gifts for God's Kingdom

00:21:50
Speaker
Well, the first thing I want to point out is that it's very important. I love how the disciples wrote down in their testimony about Mary having poured the perfume out on Jesus.
00:22:02
Speaker
So just as he said, would say, what Mary has done for me tonight will be remembered. People will hear about it. And so it's very important, because that's what Jesus wanted to happen, that we would remember that Mary did this for him, and that she had been preparing his body for the burial.
00:22:22
Speaker
She may have not really understood that, but he says that that's what she was doing, and that it's important that we remember her for having done that. So we are.
00:22:33
Speaker
We're taking that special moment to talk about Mary and the beautiful gift that she shared by so by spreading that perfume that was extremely expensive on Jesus' feet.
00:22:49
Speaker
So now we're going to get to our daily application. We saw that this king, which was a story about Jesus, that he was going to be made king. So he was going away and he has gone away, but he will return.
00:23:08
Speaker
And when he returns, he's going to want to see that we have been doing our job, doing the work that has been prepared for us, using what he has given us.
00:23:20
Speaker
Who we are is a gift to the world. And we are now seeing here that what we are, will be multiplied. When we use who we are for God's kingdom and we serve others and we are looking to spread God's kingdom and to tell people about the good news, that is our investment.
00:23:44
Speaker
That is us using what he has given us. And if he finds that we have been using what he gave us and we have been doing so faithfully, that we will be given more He will give us more gifts.
00:24:00
Speaker
We will have more to use. We will also have spiritual gifts in heaven. We don't know what those treasures in heaven will be, but we know that we will have treasure in heaven because Jesus has told us so.
00:24:13
Speaker
And so whether we are also given more in heaven, ah we will have to see about that. But Jesus says that whoever has been given, let's see,
00:24:29
Speaker
Everybody who has something from me will get more. But what if it means nothing to him? So if we do not use who we are, it's as though what he has given us doesn't mean anything to us.
00:24:44
Speaker
We're not using it. We're not investing it. We need to be investing who we are into people. because that is what we are meant to do.
00:24:56
Speaker
Otherwise we are wasting it. We are doing nothing with it. And we're we're not even gaining interest with it in the bank. It's a waste. It's the same is exactly as it was when he gave it to us.
00:25:08
Speaker
There has been no growth. We are expected to grow. we are expected to mature. we are expected to learn and not just learn more, but to be more.
00:25:21
Speaker
And so if we spent our whole life and we never grow, then even what we had will be taken from us. And we don't want that to happen. So that's our daily application today, is to use who you are.
00:25:36
Speaker
Be who God made you to be God has given everybody identity.

Embracing God-Given Identity

00:25:43
Speaker
And Satan tries to take that away. He tries to tell us that we're not important, that we don't have any gifts, that we're not like other people, that we're not useful.
00:25:56
Speaker
And these things are lies that He wants to discourage us from being who Jesus and God made us to be. But God knows who he made us to be.
00:26:09
Speaker
And so it's important for you to ask God, who do you say that I am? and he will give you your name like he has given me obedient witness. And when you get your name, it helps you to understand your purpose.
00:26:24
Speaker
And then you be who that is. and you take who that is into everything that you do so that you are not trying to get your identity in your job.
00:26:36
Speaker
i am a worker at such and such a company i am a secretary i am a doctor those are occupations those are jobs they are not who you are you are meant to bring who you are into everything that you do.
00:26:54
Speaker
And I've shared about that as my example, is that God brings people to me every day in my working environment. He uses them to teach me and for me to connect with them and to share the good news about his kingdom and to spread the word about reading God's word.
00:27:13
Speaker
Because that is so important for us to do. God delights when we know who he is. We learned about that this year. So reading about him is important.
00:27:24
Speaker
And so I try to share that with people. And I'm sharing your identity. That you have an identity with you. So this is me in this event being who God made me to be and trying to invest in who he made me to be so that I am a type of fisher of men.
00:27:45
Speaker
I hope that you feel that this has lit your light and that you say, oh, I need to be who God made me to be. Because you are the only one made to be you.
00:27:56
Speaker
and who you are is a gift to the world. So give that gift to the world. Invest in the world with your gift. Invest your gift. Grow.
00:28:07
Speaker
and together, we are going to further God's kingdom. Because God doesn't desire that anybody should die, but that everybody would make the choice. And we need to be witnesses and testify about what God has done for us.
00:28:22
Speaker
So let's do that. And we can do that by being who we are. Share who God made you to be and how it has helped you in your daily life. God will help you figure that out and he will show you.
00:28:36
Speaker
So I hope that you do feel that God has lit your light today and that you are encouraged to be who you are to multiply God's kingdom.

Engagement and Sharing the Message

00:28:46
Speaker
We can help show our light today by clicking that light button.
00:28:50
Speaker
That light button might look like a follow or a subscribe button or a share button so that we can spread the word about reading God's word. It might look like a thumbs up. It might look like a heart.
00:29:02
Speaker
but they are all the light button. When we do that, we try to attract people to this event so that other people will also hear this good news and hear the message, would be encouraged to read God's word and to learn about their purpose and join us in God's sheep pen.
00:29:21
Speaker
ah that We are all part of the same family. So thank you for being here with me and watching our so or listening to our September 21st daily reading. And i hope you have a fantastic rest of your day, whatever day you get around to hearing or watching it.
00:29:36
Speaker
And guess what? Wherever you're watching or listening, I'll be right here again tomorrow for tomorrow's daily reading through our Day by Day Kids Bible, written by Karen Henley.
00:29:48
Speaker
Until then, have a blessed day.
