Today's reading will comes to us from Matthew Chapter 26:34-35, Mark Chapter 14:29-31, Luke Chapter 22:31-38 and John Chapter 13:31-14.

Today's we will read about Jesus giving us a new commandment, which deals further with how He wants us to treat one another- not just with serving one another or not thinking we are better than one another, but we are to LOVE ONE ANOTHER AS HE LOVES US. This is very important because we are all connected to one another! God is in Jesus, Jesus is in God, Jesus and God live in YOU, God and Jesus live in ME, and therefore, WE ARE ALL CONNECTED more than we ever thought! Satan knows this and tries to cause division among us. Brothers and sisters, it is very important not to let satan cause division between us. WE ARE ONE IN EACH OTHER AND WE ARE ONE IN JESUS AND ONE IN GOD. To be clear, we are not God; we are not Jesus; we are ONE WITH THEM AND EACH OTHER BY THE HOLY SPIRIT. Let us remember that and refuse to be pitted against one another, but instead, LOVE ONE ANOTHER AS JESUS LOVES US. Jesus tells us today that this love for one another is how people will KNOW that we love Him!

Next, Jesus teaches us today that HE is the WAY the TRUTH and the LIFE. NO ONE comes to the Father except through HIM. Let's share this good news with everyone, but remember to do so IN LOVE. Jesus did not come to CONDEMN the world but to SAVE it.

Introduction to Daily Bible Reading

00:00:03
Speaker
Hello everybody! Today is September 29. You are here with Robin and Scooby and we are here for our daily Bible reading through the Day by Day Kids Bible written by Karen Henley.
00:00:16
Speaker
I'm so glad that you are joining us, whether you are following along on the podcast or whether you're watching the video. How do you like that, Diamond? I finally got a way to get Scooby into the picture. I was working hard. He kind of wanted to be up.
00:00:29
Speaker
And then I thought to myself, you know what? Sometimes he sits on a chair next to me. And I thought to myself, Diamond would love to see Scooby. And of course, so would Jedi and Forrest and Pearl. But Diamond, I know you're looking for Scooby.

Preparing for Bible Reading

00:00:46
Speaker
and So we are going to take out our daily commitment calendar. If you are following along on that, go ahead and get that out along with your sticker or whatever you're using to mark off your days because we are going to hear the Bible today.
00:01:01
Speaker
See if we can adjust that a little bit.
00:01:06
Speaker
Give Scooby a little more in the picture. You can watch Scooby washing his paws there.

Jesus's Teachings on Love and Humility

00:01:12
Speaker
All right, well, today we have a lot to cover in our reading today. It is just a short amount of verses. Well, it's actually quite a lot in the book of John.
00:01:22
Speaker
It's the whole chapter 14 and then the last part of chapter 13.
00:01:28
Speaker
And i think we're also going to look at that in our big Bible too, because today we're going to see what's on Jesus's heart. Oftentimes when somebody knows that their time on earth is drawing to a close, there are things that they want to make sure that they do.
00:01:45
Speaker
There are things that we want to make sure that we say, and we call that kind of putting our house in order or putting our affairs in order. And we want to get things off of our chest and say the things that we needed to say.
00:01:57
Speaker
And yesterday we read about Jesus washing his disciples' feet and telling him, look, I'm teaching you how to treat one another. If I, as your master and teacher, have taught you am now washing your feet and I'm so much more above you, how much more so that you who are equal with one another should be taking care and treating one another.
00:02:25
Speaker
This is important. we're going to see more of jesus's direction as to how we need to treat each other and it's not just a lesson that that we are learning we need to understand that this is so and hor to jesus This was what was on his mind as one of the last things that he would bring to them, that he wanted to be sure that they understood this about how to treat one another.
00:02:56
Speaker
It is so important to Jesus and to God how we treat one another, not just respectfully or nicely, but we're going to learn how he wants us to be toward one another today and why it is so important to him.

The New Commandment of Love

00:03:13
Speaker
So let's pick up in our Bible today and our section today is entitled, Where Are You Going?
00:03:22
Speaker
Now Judas was gone and Jesus said, now God is going to show his greatness in me. I'll be here just a little longer and you will look for me, but you can't come to the place where I'm going.
00:03:37
Speaker
Here is a new rule for you. It's not just something he wants us to do. This is a new rule. Love each other, said Jesus.
00:03:51
Speaker
Love each other like I love you. Everyone will know that you are my disciples if you love each other. Lord, where are you going?
00:04:02
Speaker
asked Peter. You cannot follow me, said Jesus. You will come later. Why can't I follow you? asked Peter. I will even die for you.
00:04:15
Speaker
Peter, Peter, said Jesus. Satan wants to toss you around like bits of wheat. But I prayed for you, Peter. I have prayed that you will keep believing in me and then you can help others to be strong.
00:04:35
Speaker
Lord, I would go to jail for you, said Peter, and I would even die for you. But Jesus said, Peter, something will happen before the rooster crows today, and you will say you don't know me.
00:04:52
Speaker
You will say it three times.
00:04:56
Speaker
Don't worry, said Jesus to his friends. Trust me and trust in God. There are many rooms in my father's house and I wouldn't say that unless it was true.
00:05:10
Speaker
am going there to get a place ready for you so you can be sure will come back for you and I will take you with me. You know the way to the place where I am going.
00:05:25
Speaker
Well, we don't even know where you're going, said Thomas. So how can we know the way? i am the way, said Jesus. I am the truth.
00:05:36
Speaker
I am the life. I am the only way to get to the Father. You know me, so you know the Father.
00:05:48
Speaker
And you have seen him. Well, show us the Father, said Philip, and that will be enough for us. Don't you know me yet, Philip?
00:06:00
Speaker
asked Jesus. I have been with you for such a long time. Anybody who has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, show us the Father?
00:06:13
Speaker
Don't you believe that I am in the Father? And don't you believe that the Father is in me? This isn't just my idea, said Jesus.
00:06:25
Speaker
The Father lives in me. So he gives me his ideas and words. You can believe in me because of what I say, you can believe in me because of the wonders I do.
00:06:41
Speaker
But all the people who believe in me will do what I have been doing. And in fact, they will do even greater things. And that's because I am going to the Father. And I will do whatever you ask in my name.
00:07:00
Speaker
And that way

Unity Among Believers

00:07:01
Speaker
I can show how great God is. You will obey me if you love me, said Jesus. I'm going to the Father to give you another helper. I'm going to ask the Father, rather, to give you another helper.
00:07:18
Speaker
And he will be with you forever. He is God's Spirit of truth. The world can't believe that the Spirit is real, said Jesus.
00:07:31
Speaker
They don't see the Spirit. They don't know the Spirit. But you know the Spirit. He lives with you. And he will be in you.
00:07:46
Speaker
Then Jesus said, I won't leave you by yourselves. I will come to you. In a little while, the world won't see me, but you will see me.
00:07:57
Speaker
And because I am alive, you will be alive too. And that's when you will know am in Father. are me. in you.
00:08:11
Speaker
you are in
00:08:14
Speaker
and i am in you Know my rules. Obey me, said Jesus. Then i will know that you love me.
00:08:27
Speaker
And the Father will love whoever loves me. and I will love them too. And I will show myself to them.
00:08:39
Speaker
My Father will send the Holy Spirit in my name. And he will help you, said Jesus. He will teach you everything. He will help you to remember everything i have taught you.
00:08:54
Speaker
i am giving you my peace, said Jesus. My shalom. Don't worry. Don't be afraid. have told you what's going to happen before it happens so that you can believe when it really does happen.
00:09:11
Speaker
I won't talk to you much longer. Satan, the world's sinful prince, he is coming. But he can't hold on to me. The world has to learn that I love the Father.
00:09:27
Speaker
And they have to know i will do whatever he tells me.
00:09:34
Speaker
Then Jesus told them, Remember when I sent you out two by two? Remember when I sent you to teach? I told you not to take a bag or shoes.
00:09:46
Speaker
Did you need anything? No, they said. Now take a bag with you, said Jesus, and you had better get a sword.
00:09:59
Speaker
Isaiah said they treated him like a sinner, and this is coming true about me. We have two swords here, said Jesus' friends.
00:10:10
Speaker
That will be enough, said Jesus. Let's leave now.
00:10:16
Speaker
And that is the end of our reading today.

Jesus as the Way, Truth, and Life

00:10:21
Speaker
Wow.
00:10:24
Speaker
There is so much in today's reading. We're going to go over it, and we're also going to be looking at the chapters in John for all those fine details.
00:10:40
Speaker
Jesus tells us here today that we have a new rule. Our new rule is to love each other the way Jesus loves us.
00:10:51
Speaker
And everyone will know that we are Jesus' students, his disciples, his friends, if we do love each other. This is so important.
00:11:05
Speaker
this was so important that they were, it was Jesus's last teachings for us, that we love one another. We have been seeing him say this over and over again. We are not to try to put ourselves above one another.
00:11:19
Speaker
We are not to treat each other like we are better than one another. We are to serve one another. If we want to be great in his kingdom, we are to even wash one another's feet like a servant.
00:11:33
Speaker
That is how we are to treat one another. And now Jesus says it again. He says, it's now a rule. A rule is a commandment. In the big Bible, it tells us, I have a new command for you.
00:11:47
Speaker
Love one another. This is not something that we can choose to whether we want to do or not. This is the biggest rule we have.
00:11:58
Speaker
To love one another, to love God, to love him. Our rules are love. Our Heavenly Father is love.
00:12:11
Speaker
He loved us so much that he sent Jesus to die for us. And as Jesus is getting ready to transition in his physical body to his spiritual body, he is telling us that the most important thing we can do is to love.
00:12:26
Speaker
Every day. All day.
00:12:32
Speaker
He says also, this is very important, this shows us the connection that we have with God. God is in you. God is in me. And we know that we have God not simply because of his Holy Spirit, but because we are connected.
00:12:49
Speaker
And that means that we love one another because we are connected. We need to understand that connection. We are all connected. We say that we are part of the same sheepfold.
00:13:01
Speaker
We are part of the same body of Christ. But we can say it and not understand or grasp the depth of this relationship that you and I have together.
00:13:12
Speaker
We don't know each other. You see me or you listen to me give this reading. But there are many of you that do not know me personally. It doesn't matter. We are connected in our spirits.
00:13:26
Speaker
Because if we are connected to Jesus and to God, and God and Jesus are connected to each one of us, that means that we are all connected like a big spider web.
00:13:40
Speaker
And we are all one. We are unified. We are meant to be one. And there is nothing more that Satan wants than to, one, take our identity from us, and two, to cause

Role of the Holy Spirit

00:13:52
Speaker
division in the ranks.
00:13:54
Speaker
He wants us to be divided. He wants us to be separated out. Well, you're a Christian, you're a Jew, you're a Presbyterian, you're Catholic, you're Protestant, you're Baptist, you're Lutheran.
00:14:08
Speaker
We just need to understand that we are one. We are one in spirit. We are connected in spirit by the Holy Father and Jesus.
00:14:22
Speaker
Jesus tells us,
00:14:25
Speaker
Let's see. Where are we? He says, when you know, he says, you will know that I am in the father.
00:14:40
Speaker
You are in me and I am in you. So he tells us that we are connected with the Holy spirit.
00:14:52
Speaker
That is our connecting spirit.
00:14:56
Speaker
Let's look at John.
00:15:02
Speaker
so let's look at John chapter 14, where
00:15:13
Speaker
we're going to look at, oh, and Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life. I almost forgot about that section today.
00:15:21
Speaker
Jesus says in chapter 14 John, verse Starting in verse 6, Jesus said to Thomas, when Thomas asked him, How can we know where you are going?
00:15:33
Speaker
How can we know the way? And Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
00:15:46
Speaker
If you have come to know me, then you will know my Father also. And from now on you do know him and have seen him. Now we have not physically seen Jesus, but we know him.
00:15:59
Speaker
We have been reading about him and we know him. And we have the Holy Spirit. So we do know him.
00:16:08
Speaker
Verse 10.
00:16:11
Speaker
Don't you believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words I say to you, I do not speak on my own, but the Father dwelling in me.
00:16:22
Speaker
Jesus had God dwelling in him and he still does.
00:16:28
Speaker
Does his works. So that means that it is God who is working through us. That is the connection. Believe me that I am in the Father and the Father is in me.
00:16:41
Speaker
Or at least believe because of the works themselves. Amen, amen, I tell you. He who puts his trust in me. The works that I do, he will do.
00:16:53
Speaker
You are capable of doing the works that Jesus has done. Isn't that incredible? We are capable of these great works. He healed people. He made blind people see.
00:17:06
Speaker
He brought people back to life. We don't utilize this power. It is not us. It is God working through us. When people try to practice witchcraft, they are trying to do things in a power of themselves or of Satan.
00:17:25
Speaker
And this is not God's power. So this is not the same thing. I heard someone say to me, that they were doing something, ah that that that the magic that they were doing or that somebody else was doing was was close to the magic that Jesus was doing.
00:17:41
Speaker
Let's be absolutely clear. Jesus did not practice magic.

Reassurance and Trust in Jesus

00:17:48
Speaker
He had God's power in him, and he still does, while he was here on earth. and the And God worked his power through him. Jesus did not do anything of his own.
00:18:00
Speaker
And he says again that this is not my idea. These are not things that I do. It is so that God can be made great. When people are practicing witchcraft, they are doing things for their own glory.
00:18:14
Speaker
for their own selves. Nothing about what they are doing is pointing to God. They are not doing anything in God's name.
00:18:24
Speaker
Jesus says in verse 12, I tell you, he who puts his trust in me, the works that I do, he will do, and greater than these he will do, because I am going to the Father, and whatever you ask in my name, that I will do.
00:18:44
Speaker
so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask me anything in my name, I will do it. And if you love me, you will keep my commandments.
00:18:57
Speaker
We show that we love Jesus by keeping this commandment of loving one another, of loving him, of loving God. Love, love, love.
00:19:09
Speaker
We show that we love him by obeying him. He says, i will ask the father and he will give you another helper so that he may be with you for forever the spirit of truth whom the world cannot receive because it does not behold him or know him him because he lives with you and will be in you I will not abandon you as orphans. I will come to you.
00:19:38
Speaker
And in a little while, the world will no longer see me, but you will see me. And because I live, you also will live. Amen. We live because he lives.
00:19:51
Speaker
God is not the father of the dead. He is the God and the father of the living. We will be alive. It may seem that we are dead because of our our physical body.
00:20:05
Speaker
We have simply transitioned to our eternal living. He who has my commandments. Oh, in that day, verse 20, in that day, you will know that I am in the Father.
00:20:19
Speaker
You are in me. We are in Jesus. And if Jesus is in the Father, then we are with Jesus. He says, in that day, you will know that I am in my father. You are in me and I am in you.
00:20:36
Speaker
We are all connected.
00:20:40
Speaker
He who has my commandments and keeps them is the one who loves me. And he who loves me will be loved by my father and I will love him and reveal myself to him.
00:20:56
Speaker
If anyone loves me, skipping down to verse 23, he will keep my word. Notice I'm not just simply rereading the same verse over again. This is Jesus reiterating. This is a very important message. This is our daily application today.
00:21:11
Speaker
If anyone loves me, he will keep my word. My father will love him and will come to him and make our dwelling with him.
00:21:22
Speaker
We have God's spirit in us. We are connected to God in that same way that Jesus does. So do we.
00:21:33
Speaker
And we are not slaves to sin because he has set us free. and we ah ah that's because we have the power of the Holy Spirit in us.
00:21:45
Speaker
He who does not love me, verse 24, does not keep my words. And the word you hear is not mine, but the Father's who sent me.
00:21:59
Speaker
The helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you everything and remind you of everything that I said to you. Shalom, I leave you.
00:22:10
Speaker
My shalom, I give to you, but not as the world gives. Do not let your heart be troubled or afraid. He's talking about when he because he was going to die.
00:22:22
Speaker
You have heard me say that I am going away and I am coming back to you. If you loved me, then you would rejoice that I am going to the Father because the Father is greater than I. And I have told you now before it happens so that when it happens, you may believe.
00:22:41
Speaker
Jesus loves them so much that he is concerned about the condition of their heart. He knows that they are scared. He knows that they will be sad and worried and that they don't understand everything.
00:22:54
Speaker
And he is telling them, just trust in what I'm telling you. Don't worry.

Concluding Thoughts on Love and Unity

00:22:59
Speaker
Don't be afraid. I will come back.
00:23:05
Speaker
Verse 31, in order, oh, let's start at 30. I will not talk with you much longer for the ruler of this world is coming and he has nothing on me. You hear that?
00:23:16
Speaker
Satan has nothing on Jesus, nothing. But in order that the world may know that I love the father, I do exactly as the father commanded me.
00:23:31
Speaker
Let us also show how much we love the Father and how much we love Jesus. Let us honor and obey Jesus's word to love one another. Satan is going to put people in our path today. He's going to make us irritable with one another. And we need to fight against that because he is trying to cause division in the body of Christ.
00:23:51
Speaker
And we cannot allow that to happen. We need to remember Jesus's words and know that these are spiritual attacks trying to take place on us. And we need to fight against those spiritual attacks and say, I will not be subject to that.
00:24:06
Speaker
I will not be angry with my brother or sister. you And you may not even know that that person that you are irritated with is your brother or your sister. But I guarantee you, if there's somebody that just irritates you, I guarantee you, you may not know it, but they are your brother or your sister.
00:24:20
Speaker
And that is why he is causing tension between you and irritation is because he knows who each of us are. and he wants us to be divided against one another.
00:24:32
Speaker
Let's not let that happen, brothers and sisters. Let's not allow the world, whose love will grow colder and colder the closer we get to the second time Jesus comes, to overwhelm us, to take control of us.
00:24:47
Speaker
Because we have the Holy Father and Jesus in us. And we are also connected together. All of us. Let's show it. Let's love one another.
00:24:59
Speaker
As we are commanded to do.
00:25:03
Speaker
I hope that you feel emboldened. and And with the deliberate sense to love and to obey. And to be one with our neighbors.
00:25:14
Speaker
With our body of Jesus. We are one in the body of God. And I hope that you feel that God has lit your light today, that you are on fire for that concept and that you will take that daily application and that it will be part of what you do every day.
00:25:29
Speaker
Every single day of this year, we have had a daily application and they are all good. They are all applicable. They are all things we need to remember. And they center around love.
00:25:41
Speaker
The commandments can all be centered and and summed up in love God, love Jesus, and love one another. It may be difficult to remember every single daily application we have had this year, but the Holy Spirit will help us remember, number one.
00:25:56
Speaker
And number two, we just need to remember that the basis is to love one another.
00:26:03
Speaker
That's it. And remember, Jesus is the only way to the Father. He is the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through him.
00:26:16
Speaker
This is the good news that we need to teach other people. Not under threat of, well, if you don't believe it, you're going to go to hell. Jesus didn't say that to anybody. Instead, he says, I did not come to condemn the world, but I came to save it.
00:26:31
Speaker
Condemning is the adversary's job. It is not our job to condemn people. It is our job to bring good news to people. That, and that we are the kingdom of God. God is with us.
00:26:44
Speaker
And it could be that that brother or sister that you are witnessing to is just a lost sheep that they have known about God before and that they have simply wandered because we all, like sheep, have gone astray.
00:26:55
Speaker
So let's not judge people. And think about how we're doing something better than them. I have to watch myself every day, just even in my work ethic. If I look at somebody and I think that they're not trying as hard as I am, it starts a little. And let me tell you, it grows like yeast through the bread.
00:27:12
Speaker
It expands. So we want to be sure that we catch those thoughts if we are not loving. And remember to love each other. Well, thank you for joining me today.
00:27:25
Speaker
trust that you do feel that God has lit your light. Let's spread the word about this message. Let's click that light button. Let's click the share button. Let's click the follow button. Let's draw others to Jesus with our lights. We are the light of the world and Jesus lights us as well.
00:27:42
Speaker
I hope that you have a fantastic rest of the day, whatever day you get around to watching or listening to today's daily reading. And if you are interested in here reading more of God's word, our verses today come to us mostly from the chapter 14 of John.
00:27:58
Speaker
And I will be here for everyone again tomorrow.
