Today we will read about several prophesies being fulfilled after Jesus was taken into captivity by the guards of the temple and charged with blasphemy. We will even read about how Judas' betrayal fulfilled prophesy! Why is this important?

In our discussion for daily application we will talk about knowing for sure that Jesus is our atoning sacrifice made for our sins, once and for all, as God promised would happen. God will complete the good work that He started, both in Jesus and IN US! God told us ahead of time what He was going to do so that when it happened we WOULD SEE AND BELIEVE, knowing that it was, without any doubt, HIS WILL. Introduction and Purpose

00:00:02
Speaker
Shalom, everybody. Today is October 2nd. Today is the Day of Atonement in 2025. I am Robin. I'm within the Family Way Coaching. And together, we are here today for our daily Bible reading through the Day by Day Kids Bible, written by Karen Henley.
00:00:20
Speaker
Thank you for joining me today.

Prophecy and Faith

00:00:23
Speaker
If you are following along with your bookmarking commitment calendar, go ahead and get that out with your sticker or maybe your crayon, your pen, whenever you're using to mark off those days because we are going to hear the Bible today.
00:00:41
Speaker
We are almost to Jesus' crucifixion. He has been taken into custody by the and ruling priest guards, and now we are going to see him being questioned.
00:00:55
Speaker
Today we're going to be reading a lot of fu fulfillment of prophecy. Now, why is it important to read about the fulfillment of the prophecies? God has told us many times throughout our reading that he is the one and only God.
00:01:13
Speaker
And he is telling us things that would happen well ahead of time so that when they happened, we might believe. It is very important to have faith, to believe in our God, to know that he is trustworthy, that he will complete the good work that he has begun.
00:01:31
Speaker
and he will also complete the good work that he has begun in you and in me, the same way that he completed the good work that he began in Jesus or Yeshua, as we say.

Day of Atonement and Jesus

00:01:45
Speaker
So it helps us to have faith and to believe and and to say, well, how can I know that Jesus really is the Messiah? He says that he saved me from my sins, but how can I know this is true, especially on today, our Day of Atonement?
00:02:02
Speaker
This was the day that was set aside for God to forgive and pardon all of the Israelite sins. And I hope that you took the time to check out the Messianic Jewish service that I have the link for below in the description.
00:02:18
Speaker
If not, you can check it out anytime because it is there. It's on YouTube. So they will they have a library there. And just like you can watch this event anytime you get around to hearing it or watching it, the same is true with our Day of Atonement service.
00:02:34
Speaker
So I hope that you take the time to check that out. And it will give you a great deal of explanation as to why we believe. But this event that we are going to be reading about soon, this is what we were atoned with.

Jesus' Sacrifice and Prophecy

00:02:48
Speaker
Jesus's blood. And the day of atonement is our remembrance day. We have a tendency to remember that on Easter. And that's his that's the day that we celebrate his resurrection.
00:03:00
Speaker
But really, those are man-made holidays. This is the original holiday that God gave us. And he gave us this a day to foreshadow the complete atonement.
00:03:13
Speaker
That atonement was made once per year. And the rest of the time, the people would be within their sin. But Jesus, he atoned for all of our sins, both before He came and during the time that he was alive and all the sins that would come after his death and resurrection.
00:03:33
Speaker
So Jesus's atonement is once and for all. And Jesus fulfilled the many prophecies that were given to the prophets.
00:03:44
Speaker
And that's why it's important because we can know that we can have faith in Jesus as our savior. that he did indeed pay the price for our sins so that we can be saved.
00:03:57
Speaker
So that's why we're going to be seeing these prophecies fulfilled today. We're going to be taking a look at some of those in our reading. So let's pick up. Jesus has now been taken into custody and the guards tied Jesus up.
00:04:13
Speaker
They took him to the high priest's house. Now Peter and John followed him. And because John knew the high priest, he went into a closed-in yard with Jesus while Peter had to wait outside by the gate.
00:04:28
Speaker
Later, John came back and he talked to the girl who was in charge and she let him bring Peter inside the yard. The high priest was asking Jesus questions about his followers and he asked about what Jesus taught.
00:04:45
Speaker
All my teaching has been done where anyone could hear, said Jesus. I've told it to the whole world. I taught at worship places, and that is where God's people gather.
00:04:58
Speaker
I didn't teach anything in secret. So why are you asking these questions? Ask the people who heard me, and they know what I said. Now, one of the Jewish officers was standing close to Jesus and he hit Jesus in the face.
00:05:15
Speaker
He slapped him. Is that how to answer the high priest? He asked. Did I say something wrong? Asked Jesus.
00:05:25
Speaker
Tell me what it was. Why did you hit me if I am telling the truth?
00:05:32
Speaker
Now, there was a fire in the middle of the big closed-in yard and Peter sat down there. A servant girl saw Peter sitting in the firelight, and she looked at him very closely.
00:05:46
Speaker
She said, This man was with Jesus. I don't even know him, said Peter, and he

The Trial and Denial

00:05:54
Speaker
got up and went out to the gate. The Jewish leaders were looking for something wrong that Jesus had done.
00:06:02
Speaker
They wanted a reason to kill him, but they couldn't find anything wrong. Lots of people said he had done wrong, but they were lying.
00:06:13
Speaker
They didn't even agree with one another. Then somebody stood up to talk. Jesus said he would tear down this worship house that man has made, and he said he would build another one in three days.
00:06:30
Speaker
And he said it wouldn't even be made by man. And even then, the people couldn't agree. Then the high priest turned to Jesus.
00:06:40
Speaker
Aren't you going to answer? He asked. What are these people saying about you? But Jesus was quiet. He didn't say a word.
00:06:52
Speaker
Are you the one God promised to send? Asked the high priest. I am, said Jesus, and someday you will see. I will be sitting at God's right hand, and you will see me coming on the clouds of heaven.
00:07:12
Speaker
Do we need to hear any more? asked the high priest. You heard him. What do you think? Everybody said that Jesus should die. The guards around Jesus began to make fun of him.
00:07:27
Speaker
They covered his eyes and they began to beat him. Then they said, tell us who is hitting you. Prophesy. And they laughed at him. An hour passed and people were standing around Peter.
00:07:42
Speaker
They looked at him. We are sure that you are one of Jesus's followers, they said. The way you talk tells us that they that you are.
00:07:54
Speaker
I don't know the man, said Peter. Now, one of the high priest's servants was from Malchus's family. And remember, Malchus was the man whose ear Peter had cut off.
00:08:06
Speaker
This servant looked at Peter. Didn't I see you with Jesus in the garden? Man, I don't know what you're talking about, said Peter.
00:08:18
Speaker
And right then, while Peter was talking, the rooster crowed. Jesus turned and he looked at Peter.
00:08:31
Speaker
Then Peter remembered what Jesus had told him. Jesus had said, something will happen before the rooster crows today and you will say that you don't know me and you will say it three times.
00:08:45
Speaker
Peter went outside and he cried hard
00:08:53
Speaker
The sun began to come up and the leaders at the worship house had a meeting. They brought Jesus in. They said, if you are the promised one, then tell us. I could tell you, said Jesus, but you won't believe me.
00:09:09
Speaker
From now on, I will be sitting at God's right hand. Then you are God's son, they asked him. You are right, said Jesus.
00:09:22
Speaker
We don't need to have others tell about him. We've heard it from his own mouth now. Then they planned for sure to have Jesus killed.

Judas' Betrayal and Prophecy

00:09:33
Speaker
Now Judas, he saw that they were really going to kill Jesus. And he understood what was happening. And he was sorry. He took the 30 silver coins back to the leaders at the worship house.
00:09:50
Speaker
What I did was wrong, he said. I turned against a man who didn't do anything wrong. So what? The Jewish leader said. That's your problem.
00:10:03
Speaker
Judas threw the money into the worship house and he left. And then he went and he killed himself. He hung himself on a tree. The leaders picked up the money that Judas had thrown down.
00:10:18
Speaker
Well, we can't put this money back into the money box. It's money paid to kill a man, they said. So they used the money to buy the potter's field. Now the potter's field became a graveyard and graves were made there for people from other lands.
00:10:35
Speaker
And then the field was called blood field. And that made Jeremiah's words come true. He had said, they took the 30 silver coins and it was the price God's people sold him for.
00:10:51
Speaker
They used the coins to buy the potter's field.
00:10:56
Speaker
And that is the end of our reading today.
00:11:04
Speaker
Well, we're going to look at several prophecies here that were fulfilled just in today's short reading. Let's go back. And look at first, Jesus told Peter that he was going to deny him three times before the rooster crowed.
00:11:24
Speaker
And that is exactly what happened. So we know that no ordinary person would know this.

Prophetic Fulfillments

00:11:31
Speaker
Jesus, we have seen, did many things, and he always told the truth.
00:11:36
Speaker
He was sin-free. He didn't commit any sins. He did not lie. There was no violence in him. He is the Prince of Peace. And he was correct when he said that Peter would deny him three times.
00:11:51
Speaker
And Peter was so embarrassed and ashamed when this actually happened. He went out and he cried hard.
00:12:01
Speaker
Now we're going to look at when Jesus was speaking to the high priest and the they asked him, are you the one God promised to send? Asked the high priest.
00:12:13
Speaker
I am, said Jesus, and ah someday you will see. i will be sitting at God's right hand and you will see me coming on the clouds of heaven. Now this was to fulfill Daniel chapter 7 verse 13. And we're going to look at that today.
00:12:34
Speaker
Daniel chapter 7, verses 13 and 14. It says,
00:12:39
Speaker
it says i was in the night visions behold one like a son of man coming with the clouds of heaven he approached the ancient of days and was brought into his presence dominion glory and sovereignty were given to him that all peoples nations and languages should serve him His dominion is an everlasting dominion that will never pass away. And his kingdom is one that will not be destroyed.
00:13:14
Speaker
So this is what Jesus is telling them is going to be fulfilled in him. Okay, then we are going to look at our next section.
00:13:28
Speaker
Isaiah chapter 50, verse 6. After this, he said, ah the priest responded with, Do we need to hear any more?
00:13:39
Speaker
Asked the high priest. You heard him. What do you think? and Everybody said that Jesus should die. Now, before we get on to Isaiah, I want to talk about this. Why they said Jesus should die.
00:13:50
Speaker
Because they were claiming that Jesus was blaspheming. By claiming that he was going to be with God. That he was the son of God. And according to Leviticus. The punishment for blaspheming.
00:14:04
Speaker
Was to be stoned by all of the people. So the punishment was death. So they are declaring that he has committed the sin of blasphemy. And they are ruling for him to die.
00:14:18
Speaker
So now the guards around Jesus began to make fun of him and they covered his eyes and they began to beat him. And then they said, tell us who is hitting you. Prophesy. And they laughed at him.
00:14:30
Speaker
This is what fulfills Isaiah chapter 50, verse 6. We're going to look at that.
00:14:39
Speaker
We're actually going to start at verse five, where he says, this is in Isaiah. And he says, the Lord God has opened my ear and I was not rebellious, nor did I turn back.
00:14:51
Speaker
I gave my back to those who strike and my cheeks to those pulling out my beard. I did not hide my face from humiliation and spitting.
00:15:04
Speaker
So what they were doing was fulfilling Isaiah chapter 50, verses 5 and 6.
00:15:13
Speaker
Okay, we're going to go on. And we are going to look at
00:15:23
Speaker
where Judas, his very act of accepting the 30 coins we already spoke about when he accepted those 30 coins in payment was actually written about in Zechariah.
00:15:35
Speaker
Now, I know that it says ah in Matthew, and Matthew is the only one who quotes that it comes from ah Jeremiah. He's the only one who notates this fulfillment.
00:15:47
Speaker
And so that can be confusing because it was actually written in the book of Zechariah, verse ah ah chapter 11, verses 12 and 13, where it says, "'Judas saw that they were really going to kill Jesus.
00:16:01
Speaker
He understood what was happening, and he was sorry. He took the 30 silver coins back to the leaders at the worship house. "'What I did was wrong,' he said. "'I turned against a man who didn't do anything wrong.'" So what?
00:16:17
Speaker
The Jewish leader said, that's your problem. Judas threw the money into the worship house and he left. And then he went and killed himself. He hung himself on a tree.
00:16:29
Speaker
So we are going to look at Zechariah. But before we do, i wanted to get clarification on that. So the scrolls were separated. Remember, in the time of Jesus,
00:16:43
Speaker
ah the Bible was written on scrolls and the is The structure of the Hebrew Bible is divided into three sections.
00:16:55
Speaker
It's called the law, the writings, and the prophets. And Jesus actually refers to these divisions in Luke chapter 24 when he says to to them, to his disciples, these are my words that I spoke to you while I was still with you, that everything written about me in the law of Moses and the prophets and the Psalms must be fulfilled.
00:17:17
Speaker
So he's actually... referencing the three ah the three different divisions of the books So the came from.
00:17:31
Speaker
so the scrolls were sometimes referred to by the name of the first but so this is not necessarily a misquote or a mistake in the bible when we are looking for where this came from it ah The scrolls were referred to then ah by the name of the first book, which in the case of the prophets would be Jeremiah.
00:17:51
Speaker
So when Matthew says that Jeremiah says, he means that the prophecy was found in the Jeremiah scroll. So I just wanted to be ah sure that we understand what we are reading and why things appear the way that they do, because it can look like there is an accuracy.
00:18:10
Speaker
And it really has to do with the fact that we simply don't understand some of the Jewish history and the tradition. So that's another reason why i love attending a Messianic Jewish congregation is because it really gives us the complete story.
00:18:28
Speaker
Instead of having a, quote, Christian view, this gives us the view with in light of the fact that Yeshua is Jewish.
00:18:40
Speaker
He always was. And so he is fulfilling the the Jewish prophets, because they are the chosen people. This is who god this is how God chose to reveal himself.
00:18:55
Speaker
we We started with Abraham, and then we had Isaac, and then we had Jacob. And then from there, we had the 12 tribes of Israel. And so this was a specific line.
00:19:07
Speaker
At no point in time did this become a, quote, Christian religion. We are actually Gentile believers in the Messiah. There is no such thing as, quote, Christianity in the Bible.
00:19:21
Speaker
That is to follow Christ, which is simply Greek for Messiah. So we need to be able to remember that we are at heart actually Jewish. We may be Gentiles.
00:19:32
Speaker
So there are things that we don't necessarily follow, like in some of the rabbinic traditions and such. But really, this is a Jewish religion. This is simply the fulfillment of Judaism.
00:19:44
Speaker
And that's what Jesus told us. I did not come to abolish the law. I came to fulfill it. So even in these little tiny details, there is still the Jewish understanding.
00:19:56
Speaker
And so it's very important that we know our roots and where we come from.
00:20:02
Speaker
So we are going to be looking at ah Zechariah chapter 11, verses 12 13. verse twelve in thirteen
00:20:13
Speaker
So if you've actually been with us a little while, then you may have been here when we read this in Zechariah. And we talked about the fact that when Zechariah, ah with his prophesying, he was very, he wasn't thought of very highly. So he had gone to them, ah the the priests and the people and said,
00:20:32
Speaker
then i said to them if it seems good to you pay me my wages but if not don't bother so they weighed out my wages thirty pieces of silver which we explained was a very paltry cheap amount Then the Lord said to me, throw it to the potter, that exorbitant price at which they valued me.
00:20:55
Speaker
It's sarcasm. So I took the 30 pieces of silver and threw them into the house of the Lord to the potter.
00:21:05
Speaker
So this was when ah Judas was fulfilling the 30 pieces that was to be bought for the potter's field. And in Matthew, Chapter 26, which is where this appears. Chapter 27, rather, not chapter 26.
00:21:28
Speaker
starting in verse 7, or starting verse 6. The ruling priest took the silver pieces and said, It is not permitted to put these into the treasury, since it is blood money.
00:21:39
Speaker
So after they conferred, they brought with them they bought with them the potter's field as a cemetery for strangers.

Jesus as Messiah

00:21:47
Speaker
And for this reason, that field has been called the field of blood to this day.
00:21:53
Speaker
And then what then was fulfilled what was spoken by Jeremiah the prophet, saying they took the 30 pieces of silver, the price of him on whom a price had been set by the children of Israel, and they gave them for the potter's field, just as the Lord arranged for me.
00:22:10
Speaker
So we see here that even prophecy not directly done by Jesus was fulfilled, and it was fulfilled by Judas. He didn't even know it. Isn't that amazing?
00:22:23
Speaker
We can know for certainty that all of the prophecy that God gave us ahead of time so that we would know and believe when these things happened, that we would not be able to credit anybody else for these things, but for him alone, for knowing what was going to happen.
00:22:41
Speaker
Because our God is omniscient. He knows everything. He knows exactly what will happen. He knows who will choose to follow him.
00:22:52
Speaker
He knows who will not choose to follow him. He knows who will betray Jesus even before it happens long ago. And I think those were the end of our prophecies that we read about today.
00:23:08
Speaker
Yep. Zechariah 11, 12, 13. twelve thirteen So I hope that these give you a hope for the reason that you believe, that we see more and more evidence.
00:23:21
Speaker
We spoke previously about the prophecy being fulfilled by Jesus and all the prophecies that were fulfilled, that it is an astronomical number for one person to fulfill all of these prophecies would be a greater number than we can even speak.
00:23:38
Speaker
And even if we just look at 800 of the prophecies that were made, I think it was 300, sorry, 300 of the prophecies that he fulfilled. He fulfilled so many prophecies across the Psalms, across the law, and across the prophets, the three sections of the of the Jewish Bible.
00:24:02
Speaker
So we can know for certain, especially on this day of atonement, that he is our Lord and Savior who died not for himself, but for us.
00:24:15
Speaker
Now, there was also an accusation made that Jesus had said that the temple would be knocked, it would be destroyed and he would rebuild it in three days. So he will also fulfill that with his body.
00:24:29
Speaker
His body has become the cornerstone of the temple. We now know that the Holy Spirit is in each one of us. God's holy presence used to only be present in the in the temple.
00:24:46
Speaker
And we we talked about the fact that God's presence never returned to the second temple that was built. God's presence is now with us.
00:24:56
Speaker
We are the kingdom of God. We have God's kingdom with us. We have the Holy Spirit with us. We are one with God and Jesus.
00:25:08
Speaker
Jesus prayed for us. The other day we saw that he prayed for us, that we would be one in each and with them and with each other the same way that Jesus and God are one with each other.
00:25:22
Speaker
And by that connection with Jesus being in us and the Holy Spirit being in us, we are all one with God's Spirit. And so now the temple of God is with us.
00:25:34
Speaker
Our body has become a living temple for the Holy Spirit and for our holy God. This is amazing. These daily applications are something we need to carry with us as truth every day for us to have a hope for the reason that we believe.
00:25:54
Speaker
It's also important to have these experiences with God where he teaches us and we can have that testimony because that testimony that we give is also the reason for the hope that is within us.
00:26:09
Speaker
Well, thank you very much for joining me today. I hope that you feel, and actually I trust that you feel that God has lit your light today. There is a light button located somewhere in the bottom of your podcast or your video that you are watching.
00:26:25
Speaker
And it might look like a thumbs up. It might look like a heart. It might even look like a share button where we can share it with somebody else on one of our social media. This event is technically also available on TikTok.
00:26:38
Speaker
I have this available on Apple Music, on Spotify, YouTube, Pandora. It's on YouTube Music as well, not just on video. And then I always have it available on my site and, as I mentioned, on TikTok. It's also on Amazon Music.
00:26:54
Speaker
It's on Podbean, Podcast, Overcast, Cast Off, wherever you may have a friend who is listening to their podcast. It is available for them to listen to.
00:27:06
Speaker
And so it is very inclusive so that it's easy to access. So we can share the word and spread the word about reading God's word by sharing this ah reading with other people that we may know or that we just meet and talk about this.
00:27:24
Speaker
We want to share the good news that Jesus is our atoning lamb. He paid the price for our sins. And we can be sure of that.

Day of Atonement Service

00:27:36
Speaker
And we see where he fulfilled those prophecies where it it talks about him hundreds of years before he actually came to do them so that we would know.
00:27:47
Speaker
yeah Now it is the Day of Atonement, as I mentioned. So there is one more closing service. ah The Jewish day runs from sundown sundown. So the Day of Atonement began yesterday at sundown and we had a service at 7 p.m.
00:28:01
Speaker
Pacific time. And tonight we have
