If you would like to download my FREE calendar for keeping track of your commitment to read the Bible every day, you can find that on my site, here: https://www.inthefamilywaycoaching.com/pages/read-the-bible-in-1-year

Monthly memberships to support this event can be purchased on my site, here: https://www.inthefamilywaycoaching.com/offering_packages

Today's reading will include John Chapter 12:20-36, Matthew 21:20-32, Mark 11:20-33, and Luke Chapter 20:1-8.

Today is God's Appointed Time for the Day of Blasting/The Feast of Trumpets. We will begin by talking about why we celebrate the Feast of blasting. Then we will read Jesus' parables about the seed that dies to itself in order to be fruitful and multiply. Then we will read about what happened to the fig tree that Jesus cursed in yesterday's reading. Jesus teaches us that He is not the only one who can make these things happen. WE CAN DO THESE THINGS! We just need to have faith in God and believe that it is happening, without any doubt in our hearts. Not so easy to do, but we can do it and grow our faith to ask for and believe even bigger things.

In our discussion for daily application we will talk about the power of praying while believing God has already granted our prayers.  I will share an example of this in my own life today.

Introduction & Significance of the Shofar

00:00:03
Speaker
Hey everybody, today is September 23rd's daily reading through the Day by Day Kids Bible, written by Karen Henley. Today was the day of blasting.
00:00:15
Speaker
I hope that you found a way to look up online, like on YouTube, and find a blasting of the shofar. I tried really hard to get one to play, and I tested some recording um and for my daily reading here, and for some reason,
00:00:33
Speaker
my microphone does not ah keep recording the shofar sounds. I

Biblical Context of the Shofar

00:00:39
Speaker
do not know why. i tried doing it through YouTube and playing it on my phone.
00:00:45
Speaker
I tried doing a screen share and i have no idea why the microphone just cuts out after the shofar starts. So unfortunately, we do not have any blowing of the shofar here today.
00:00:59
Speaker
i had planned for that. I'm really disappointed that that didn't happen, but Well, it still was the day of blasting, and I did still listen to the shofar blasting. So if you don't know what that is, that is a ram's horn or another kosher animal's horn that has had the marrow, which is the inside, removed.

Future Significance & Rapture

00:01:18
Speaker
And then it's made into a horn. And this was foreshadowed in the time of Moses when God was going to descend And bring his presence into the camp where the Israelites were.
00:01:32
Speaker
And prior to God's dissension, his arrival into the camp, a great shofar blast. It came from heaven. And we know that the great shofar will blast again.
00:01:45
Speaker
And that will be done by the angels. And then the angels will gather Jesus's people.

Sabbath and Daily Preparations

00:01:55
Speaker
And they will be raptured.
00:02:00
Speaker
So this is considered a Moedim, an appointed time. So this is something that we are meant to observe every year. And it is also a time of gathering and it's a Shabbat. It is a Sabbath day.
00:02:18
Speaker
It was lovely to have an extra Sabbath day this week.

Parables of Jesus: Fig Tree & Seed

00:02:24
Speaker
So let's get out our calendar. If you are taking that out and using it for your bookmark or your marking off of your days, because we are about to hear the Bible today.
00:02:41
Speaker
We are picking up with Jesus heading to Jerusalem. And today we are going to see several different stories and they are so good.
00:02:57
Speaker
One of them has to do with the fig tree, which we said that we would finish today. And one of them is going to talk about when what happens when a seed falls to the ground and grows.
00:03:13
Speaker
A seed dies to itself so that it can become a whole plant. And so this is going to be an example, a parable, an analogy.
00:03:26
Speaker
of what we need to be like as well. Now Jesus was talking about himself as well as us. So let's begin with our daily reading today.
00:03:38
Speaker
It says some people from the land of Greece came to Jerusalem and they were going to worship. They found Philip and they asked him, sir, we would like to find Jesus.
00:03:50
Speaker
So Philip went to tell Andrew and then Andrew and Philip went to tell Jesus. Jesus talked to Andrew and Philip.
00:04:02
Speaker
It's time for God to show his greatness in me. It's time for the whole world to see who I am. a wheat seed falls to the ground, said Jesus, and it dies.
00:04:19
Speaker
It's just little seed, but it will make many other seeds. It will send out roots and grow. and it will live again.
00:04:34
Speaker
Now, some people want to serve me, said Jesus. And anyone who wants to do that will have to follow me.

Jesus's Teachings on Faith & Prayer

00:04:42
Speaker
And then that person will be where I am.
00:04:46
Speaker
And if someone serves me, my father will make that person feel special.
00:04:55
Speaker
Right now I feel troubled, said Jesus. And what can I say? Father, save me from what's going to happen? No, I came into the world because of what's going to happen.
00:05:09
Speaker
So I say, Father, show how great you are in me. Let the world see you. Just then a voice came from heaven.
00:05:22
Speaker
I have shown how great I am, and I will show how great I am again. The people who were standing there heard the voice.
00:05:34
Speaker
Some of them said it was just thunder, and other people said it was an angel talking. This voice was for you, not for me, said Jesus.
00:05:47
Speaker
It's time for the world to be judged now. It's time to chase away Satan. the world's sinful prince. I will be lifted up from the earth and then I will draw all people to me.
00:06:03
Speaker
Jesus was talking about how he would die.
00:06:08
Speaker
The promised one will stay with us forever, people said. How can you talk about being lifted up?
00:06:17
Speaker
You have the light just a little while longer, said Jesus. Walk while you have the light. The dark is going to come, and people in the dark don't know where they are going.
00:06:30
Speaker
And then you you need to trust in the light while it is here, and then you can be children of light. And then Jesus left Jerusalem, and the people did not know where he went.
00:06:46
Speaker
Morning came, and Jesus and his friends headed back to Jerusalem. they passed the fig tree that Jesus had talked to. It had dried up. Now Peter remembered what Jesus had said to that fig tree.
00:07:01
Speaker
Look, he said, you talked to the fig tree and you said no one would get fruit from it. And it dried up.
00:07:10
Speaker
Jesus' friends were surprised to see it. How did it dry up so fast, they asked.
00:07:17
Speaker
You can do the same thing if you have faith. You can tell a mountain to jump into the sea, and it will, said Jesus.
00:07:31
Speaker
Believe in God, said Jesus.
00:07:35
Speaker
Have faith. I tell you, if someone says to this mountain, be taken up and thrown into the sea, and does not doubt in his heart, but trusts that what he says is happening,
00:07:51
Speaker
so shall it be for him. And for this reason, I say to you, whatever you pray and ask, believe that you have received it and it will be yours.
00:08:07
Speaker
And whenever you stand praying, ask yourself if you are angry at someone.

Authority & Parables Against Pharisees

00:08:13
Speaker
Forgive that person and then your Father in heaven will forgive you.
00:08:22
Speaker
So they came to Jerusalem and Jesus went to the worship house again. The leaders there came to Jesus. Who gave you the right to do the things you do?
00:08:33
Speaker
They asked him. Let me ask you ah question, said Jesus. If you answer me, then I will answer you.
00:08:45
Speaker
So tell me. John baptized people. Was that his idea, or did God tell him to do it?
00:08:55
Speaker
Now the worship house leaders talked to each other. Well, what if we say he was God's idea? Then he will say, why didn't you believe John? And what if we say it was John's idea?
00:09:09
Speaker
Then we are in trouble, because they were afraid of all the people who were around. The people had been saying that John really was a prophet, and they were afraid that the people would stone them.
00:09:24
Speaker
So at last the leaders answered, We don't know. Then I will not answer your question, said Jesus. Now Jesus went on.
00:09:38
Speaker
Think about it. There once was a man who had two sons. The man talked to his first son and said, go work in the grape garden today.
00:09:49
Speaker
And his first son said, no. But later he changed his mind and he did go. The man talked to his other son. Go work in the grape garden today, he said.
00:10:03
Speaker
His other son said, yes, sir, I will. But he did not go.
00:10:11
Speaker
Which son obeyed his father and did what he wanted? Asked Jesus. The first one did, they said. John came to show you the right way to live, said Jesus.
00:10:28
Speaker
Taxmen and sinners believed in John, and they will get into God's kingdom. But you would not believe John and be sorry for the wrong things you did.
00:10:39
Speaker
So taxmen and sinners will get into God's kingdom before you will. And that is the end of our reading today.
00:10:52
Speaker
Wow, today's reading was so powerful, don't you think? We saw

Practical Faith & Miracles

00:10:56
Speaker
amazing things. We... learned about that fig tree that Jesus had cursed.
00:11:04
Speaker
But before we do get to there, let's go back to the parable about the wheat seed.
00:11:12
Speaker
And Jesus tells us that some people will want to serve him and anyone who wants to do that will have to follow him. Then that person will be where I am.
00:11:25
Speaker
If someone serves me, then my father will make that person feel special. It's a wonderful thing to serve Jesus. And remember, he taught us the other day that if we want to be great among one another, then we need to serve one another, be caring and thoughtful of one another, and look out for one another. That's what serving is, is to look out for one another, to care for one another, help one another.
00:11:54
Speaker
And if we want to serve Jesus, then God will make us feel special. I love doing this event. This event brings me so much joy.
00:12:06
Speaker
I love it. And it makes me feel special that God would have use for me. I don't feel arrogant or prideful and think I'm just doing a fantastic job. That's not what I mean.
00:12:18
Speaker
I love God is using me. I love that he has given me purpose. I love that he is using this event to teach me about his word.
00:12:31
Speaker
And I love that he he's you just looks after me. And I feel like this year, he has looked after me even more because I have been making great effort to learn how to make God and Jesus the most important ones in my life.
00:12:49
Speaker
And that's why I love that daily application for us. We have read about that numerous times. You can't even count how many times we have said we need to make God and Jesus the most important ones in our lives.
00:13:03
Speaker
We are not supposed to make ourselves important and do what we want. And this is what the wheat seed is talking about. Jesus is talking about the fact that although he would die,
00:13:15
Speaker
He wasn't doing what the world wanted him to do. He wasn't just doing what he wanted to do. He was doing what God wanted to do. He was going to give up his physical life so that there would be a greater good.
00:13:32
Speaker
And that was so amazing that he would do that. Jesus will tell us that it's It's not easy for somebody to lay down their life for one another, but he laid down his life so that we would live.
00:13:49
Speaker
And so here he says that although that little seed dies to itself, it grows into something new. It's kind of like when a caterpillar turns into a butterfly.
00:14:01
Speaker
It doesn't just stay a caterpillar for its whole life. And this process actually is very common among insects for them to transform into another stage of life.
00:14:13
Speaker
And so it seems to me that when we leave the physical body behind and we have now our permanent spiritual existence, it seems to me that we are really just experiencing a transformation.
00:14:30
Speaker
Although our physical body has died, our spirit will have eternal life. And Jesus says here that, let's see, where is it?
00:14:45
Speaker
It says that once that seed dies, it will make many other seeds. It will grow and send out roots and And it will live again. So Jesus didn't just end up being a solitary person.
00:15:01
Speaker
He is the only one who saved us. But we are his students. We are learning to be like him. It's like we are his little seeds and we grow.
00:15:15
Speaker
And we also are meant to grow into what our seed is. Little Jesus, not not in the godly sense, but to be like him. We are supposed to be like him.
00:15:28
Speaker
We will never be greater than he is, but we will be like him if we learn and do as he had taught us. And then we will end up having greater life.
00:15:42
Speaker
And then we will end up multiplying because then other people, we are meant to share this with other people, not just be solitary people either, just like Jesus wasn't all by himself.
00:15:56
Speaker
We are meant to teach others and share the kingdom of God with others so that we end up multiplying into making also many seeds. so I hope that you understand today's parable a little bit more than you did before we started.
00:16:13
Speaker
Remember a parable is a comparison between two things using like or as. It's a simile. So that we can understand greater truth by using something we are already familiar with.
00:16:27
Speaker
A transference of knowledge. And i love how Jesus says here that he says, I'm troubled by what's going to happen.
00:16:39
Speaker
But what am I supposed to say? Father,
00:16:45
Speaker
take this away from me, save me from what's going to happen. He says, no, he came into the world because of what was going to happen. And he was going to do it.
00:16:58
Speaker
He was faithful. Jesus is so faithful. Instead, he says, Father, show how great you are in me and let the world see you, how great you are.
00:17:13
Speaker
And God confirmed, I have shown how great I am and I will show how great I am again. He did. God shows us how great he is every day.
00:17:25
Speaker
We just need to be looking and listening and having ears to to hear and eyes to see. And then don't forget, we need to share about that too. Once we see those things or hear those things, we need to be God's witnesses and tell others about those things too.
00:17:44
Speaker
My other favorite part of today's reading is about the fig tree and the lesson of faith that Jesus gives them. This is extremely important for our daily application.
00:17:57
Speaker
Jesus tells us that when the fig tree dried up and the disciples were very surprised that it had done so at his word, Jesus said to them, you can do the same thing If you have a, you can tell a mountain to jump into the sea and it will.
00:18:22
Speaker
We just need to believe in God and not have any doubt in our heart. Wow, i just I've never seen anybody else move a mountain. I've never seen anybody cause a fig tree to dry up.
00:18:37
Speaker
We don't seem to do those things. It's like we don't have that faith. The disciples, they went about and they healed people. And we've talked about that recently too. in Actually, it was a couple weeks ago. it wasn't very recently.
00:18:51
Speaker
That we need to not have doubt in our heart. And Jesus ah confirms for us today. he says, it's for that reason that whatever you pray and ask for,
00:19:08
Speaker
Believe that you have received it and it will be yours. We don't wanna have doubt. i I've been practicing this lately, and I will tell you that God just really wants us to believe. And when we do, he is faithful and he is doing the things that I am praying about.
00:19:31
Speaker
And I'm watching him do these things.

Personal Experiences & Teamwork

00:19:34
Speaker
We are to behave as though we have already been granted what he has asked us. So just like when Jesus was healing the people who couldn't see or couldn't walk,
00:19:47
Speaker
he also is telling us that we have this ability. they Those people, it was according to their faith. They received according to what they believed.
00:20:02
Speaker
So it's very important that we believe and we not have doubts. And so we learn to do this with little things, trusting God with the little things, praying for smaller things, and then seeing how he is faithful, not just waiting to see if he responds, but but practice deliberately, intentionally believing that he has already done it and it will be ours.
00:20:31
Speaker
This is extremely important. That is the faith. Jesus said that God will grant us what we ask for. This is not a joke.
00:20:43
Speaker
This is very serious. We need to be sure that we have faith to know that God will do what we have asked him to do. And then we will receive.
00:20:55
Speaker
That is amazing. that that is That is so amazing. And I've been seeing God do that. I have prayed for healing for people, for my daughter, and I am seeing healing in her. Part of the reason why this event is so late today is because we ended up with, ah after the Shafar event, I got home a little bit late from that, first of all.
00:21:22
Speaker
And when I did, ah We had our, hopefully only once this year, issue of dealing with the ants in the kitchen. Man, there were so many. The trail was so long.
00:21:35
Speaker
They were everywhere. I had to go into the cupboard. I had to go into multiple cupboards. They were on top of the refrigerator. They were trying to get into the refrigerator. I don't know if they were trying to live in my refrigerator.
00:21:46
Speaker
That brand new refrigerator that I just got a couple of months ago. They were trying to take up residence in it. It was ridiculous. They had gotten into some cereal then that was on top of the refrigerator.
00:21:58
Speaker
They were in the recycling bin. It was just ridiculous. And this stuff goes out. We take the recycling out pretty much daily. So it was just ridiculous. There was so, so much.
00:22:10
Speaker
But you know what? God worked everything to good. Because I ended up working on this with my daughter. And we worked together well.
00:22:21
Speaker
And I felt like I had some of my daughter back. And it was just really... really wonderful. I was not pleased to clean up all the ants, but we worked together as a team in a way that we have not done since I can't remember.
00:22:41
Speaker
She was helpful. We weren't upset or irritated with one another. She was bringing me paper towels and handing me the trash can. And we just we had such a great time. And and I was aware of that.
00:22:57
Speaker
and And God had told me while we were doing this that he was working good into it. Can you believe that? Good with the ants. And it was just so amazing.
00:23:09
Speaker
that it it just couldn't have been a better experience. And it has to do with the fact that I have prayed for her healing.
00:23:21
Speaker
So it's just, it was just a really wonderful afternoon or evening of dealing with the ants. Did you ever think somebody

Seasonal Reflections & Spiritual Vigilance

00:23:29
Speaker
would say that?
00:23:32
Speaker
But it was, and I'm just so happy about it. So we finally, finally, finally got the ants under control, but now we're both on ant patrol looking for those strays. Oh, so annoying.
00:23:49
Speaker
But it's bound to happen once a year, right? Oh, boy. Well, so that is our daily application, is that when we pray to have faith and believe, and it will be answered. It will be given to us.
00:24:07
Speaker
I think this is the second time Jesus has taught us about this. And so it bears repeating. That is a wonderful daily application. I love that one.
00:24:19
Speaker
I do want to mention a little bit about the son who was working in the in the grape field and the one who did not work in the great field. I just wanted to make sure that we understand that story.
00:24:32
Speaker
So at the end of that story, Jesus explained that the taxpayers and the sinners, they were getting into heaven. And that's because so Jesus came to all of the Jewish people first.
00:24:47
Speaker
And so these people were already aware of God's rules, but they were not doing it. So Jesus came to teach them to repent of their sins and to turn to God.
00:25:04
Speaker
And they chose to make that decision. And so they were the people who had gone astray. They were lost sheep. Jesus came to seek and find those lost sheep and bring them into the fold.
00:25:18
Speaker
And so the Pharisees, on the other hand, they represented the son who said, yes, I will go and do this as though they were going to obey the father.
00:25:30
Speaker
But it turns out that they did not obey. They had more access and more knowledge to the scripture than the regular people did. Then the other son who said, no, I don't want to do that, but then changed his mind and repented and then actually did it.
00:25:47
Speaker
They had access already. They were supposed to already be obeying, and yet they did not. And that is why Jesus said that the taxpayers and sinners would enter the kingdom of heaven before they did.
00:26:03
Speaker
So that's it for our daily reading. I hope that you feel that you have ah been, had you and that God has lit your light today. It is late.
00:26:14
Speaker
And I hope that you are ah just having a wonderful time of the year. We are in fall season. This is our harvest season. This is our season as we approach.
00:26:26
Speaker
We have a a couple of holidays coming. and and On the biblical calendar, there is the Day of Atonement that we can remember and that Jesus has paid for our atonement.
00:26:39
Speaker
So these are wonderful times and days to observe and remember. And we also have the Feast of Tents coming, or the Feast of Tabernacles, or Sukkah, however you like to refer to it.
00:26:53
Speaker
And that is coming up on October 7th. So that's in about two weeks. So I just want to be sure that we are preparing our hearts and asking God to help us to observe these appointed times.
00:27:05
Speaker
Because whether we listen to this event and and try to learn about it on that day or not, in our own hearts, that is what God is looking for, is for our obedience, our heart to be towards God.
00:27:19
Speaker
God knows our hearts. That's the most important part, is that we are worshiping God with our heart. not just with our mouths, but with our hearts.
00:27:31
Speaker
We need to be loving God with all of our heart, all of our mind, all of our strength, and all of our soul, and to make him the most important one in our lives, so that as we die to ourselves, we will create many seeds with a new plant.
00:27:48
Speaker
And Jesus promises that if we serve him, that we will be where he is. And that is the best of all We need to remember the big picture.

Conclusion & Call to Share Teachings

00:28:00
Speaker
As we are learning through the Bible this year and seeing everything happen in the big story, we don't want to get too focused on just these little stories. There's a lot of them.
00:28:11
Speaker
We need to remember how they fit into God's big picture of the entire Bible with the plans that he knows that he has for us. Plans to prosper us.
00:28:22
Speaker
Plans to give us future and a hope. Not plans to hurt us. So thank you for joining me today. I do hope that you feel that God has lit your light.
00:28:32
Speaker
We can share that light and encourage others to hear this event, this message, and spread the word about reading God's word. We can do that by clicking our light buttons.
00:28:44
Speaker
That light button looks like a thumbs up. It looks like a heart. It might look like a share button where we can post this to social media somewhere or and email it to somebody.
00:28:56
Speaker
Just tell somebody about it. Give them the name of it. Help them find it. It can look like a lot of different ways. But what we do not want to do is take our light and put it under a basket.
00:29:10
Speaker
We want to put it up high on a hill because we want to see Jesus lifted high. So I hope you have a fantastic rest of your day, whatever day you get around to hearing or watching today's event.
00:29:22
Speaker
And i will see you or be here for you to listen to again for tomorrow, the day after the blasting of the Shafar. Have a great day, everybody.
00:29:32
Speaker
Have a blessed day as well.
