Today we will complete the letter Paul wrote to the Romans with Chapter 15:1-7, 13-15, 23, 25-26, 28, 30-33 and Chapter 16:1-24, 27.

Today Paul will conclude his letter to the community in Rome by reminding the readers of the most important points of his letter. Paul was very passionate about building unity within God's communities. He reminded us as we read his letter today that we are not just to try and make ourselves happy or serve ourselves because not even Jesus tried to make himself happy! instead, Jesus taught us that if we want to be considered great among one other then we need to serve one another. We, being readers of Paul's letter, are to receive the same teaching.

Paul also warned the readers about people who start fights between believers, pointing out that those people are not serving Jesus, but are serving themselves!

Lastly, Paul shared his desire for God's communities to be wise about what is good and not to have anything to do with what is sinful.

In our discussion for daily application we will talk about being transformed by the renewing of our mind. Sinful thoughts, such as those started by people who want to start fights, pave the way for division within God's body of believers. We need to be mindful of anything that causes us to be divisive. Instead, we need to pay attention to every opportunity to foster unity between one another, such as when I shared that I look for identifying signs such as jewelry or tattoos of crosses, Bible verses, etc. that people wear that let me know they are a believer, and then strike up a conversation with that person, commenting that we are one in the body of believers.

As we close our reading session today I pray "that God will help you work together to follow Jesus so that it will seem like you have one heart and together you can show God's greatness. Amen!"

Introduction and Personal Update

00:00:03
Speaker
Well, I made it. Today is November 15th. Thank you so much for joining me for today's daily reading. My name is Robin. I'm within the Family Way Coaching.
00:00:14
Speaker
And together we are here for the daily reading out of the Day by Day Kids Bible written by Karen Henley. Boy, oh boy, I have had a tiring week. I don't know about you. I just feel like the last two weeks have just been exhausting.
00:00:30
Speaker
ah Today is was a very hard day. I had to spend about five hours in yeah er r with my husband because he wasn't feeling well. And I was really concerned that he was having a stroke because he was having trouble thinking.
00:00:47
Speaker
And it turned out it was just his really high blood sugar.

Preparing for Daily Bible Reading

00:00:51
Speaker
So and that was not a fun day. So after that exhausting day from about 4.30 till 9.30 tonight, um we finally went over to get something to eat because we hadn't eaten.
00:01:05
Speaker
in that time So we were pretty hungry. We actually didn't eat lunch either. So it was a very long day. But our God is good all the time. All the time. He is good.
00:01:18
Speaker
And so thankfully he did was not having a stroke. He's just having um side effects now from extended high blood sugar.
00:01:28
Speaker
So if you don't mind praying for my husband, his name is Jim. I would appreciate that. to help him with his blood sugar. It's hard for him.
00:01:41
Speaker
Diabetes is not easy to live with. Well, it is time to take out our calendar. If you are using your bookmarking commitment calendar, it's time to cross off that day.

Conclusion of Romans and Key Takeaways

00:01:53
Speaker
go ahead and get that sticker ready or your marker or your crayon or whatever you are using to cross off those days because we are finally going to hear the Bible today.
00:02:05
Speaker
I will not get this out on November 15th. I think it is already midnight. It is coming up on midnight here ah in just a couple of minutes. So i will get this out, but it will technically not post until the 16th.
00:02:20
Speaker
But thank you for ah for viewing or for listening, whichever way you are participating in our daily Bible reading event. Well, today we are going to complete the book of Romans that Paul has been writing as a letter to the community in Rome.
00:02:37
Speaker
And today Paul is going to be spending chapter 15 giving us an overview of the things that he wants to be sure that the readers take home, their take home lessons that he really wants to make known to them is important before he closes his letter with all of chapter 16.
00:02:57
Speaker
Chapter 16 is mostly um mostly, but not quite all, just ah well wishes, both to and from ah the the writers, and from from the...
00:03:12
Speaker
from paul and the person writing the letter for him as well as the community where he is staying i think he was in greece at the time and then also ah well wishes for the community and different individuals in rome Now at this time, it looks like that his friends Aquila and Priscilla have been able to return to Rome.
00:03:35
Speaker
Remember at one point they had had to leave because of religious persecution, because the Roman leaders there were not differentiating between Judaism and followers of the way.
00:03:48
Speaker
They just viewed that all of them were having difficulty with one another. And so they they told them they had to leave the area. So we read about that in the book of Acts. So now they've had

Paul's Message on Kindness and Faith

00:04:00
Speaker
time. It's been about 10 years and now they've been able to return to Rome.
00:04:04
Speaker
And so they will be mentioned in chapter 16. I say that just so we can understand the timeline since this is written chronologically. And ah they were interesting.
00:04:16
Speaker
Well loved. They were important to Paul. They are mentioned multiple times. Isn't that wonderful that these people who lived so long ago will always be remembered because of the letters that Paul wrote?
00:04:32
Speaker
And I think it was Matthew we said wrote the book of Acts. So let's go ahead and start off with chapter 15, which as we said, Paul is giving us A reminder of the things that he considers most important that he really wants to drive home as his main points from the letter that he has written.
00:04:56
Speaker
He wrote long letters, didn't he? These were long letters that he was writing and sending to the communities. So Paul tells us in chapter 15 that some people have a lot of faith and they should be kind to people who do not have so much faith.
00:05:15
Speaker
And we should not try to make just ourselves happy. We should try to make others happy. And we should try to do good for them. And we should try to help them. Because even Jesus did not try to make himself happy.
00:05:31
Speaker
God's word from long ago is there to teach us. It helps us keep living the right way. And it makes us brave. And that gives us hope.
00:05:44
Speaker
And I pray that God will help you work together to follow Jesus. That way it will seem like you have one heart and together you can show God's greatness.
00:06:00
Speaker
I'm going to read our big Bible version of that. That is actually verses 5 through 7 Romans chapter 15. It says,
00:06:13
Speaker
it says I'm actually going to start a little before in verse one so that we can really get a strong feeling for ah though encouragement in the and the important things that Paul is talking about.
00:06:29
Speaker
Paul starts off and says, Now we who are strong ought to bear the weaknesses of the powerless, And not just please ourselves. I like the stronger language. It's nice to read Karen Henley's version where she tells us that some people have a lot of faith.
00:06:47
Speaker
And those who have a lot of faith should be kind to people who don't have so much faith. Remember we talked about our ah the difference between sometimes people have a lot of faith and sometimes people don't.
00:06:59
Speaker
And so we should not judge the ones who do not and vice versa. But Paul is telling us that we who are strong ought to bear the weaknesses of the powerless and not just please ourselves.
00:07:15
Speaker
Let each of us please his neighbor for his good, for building him up. Remember, we are to build one another ah
00:07:29
Speaker
Skipping down to verse 5, Paul says, Now may the God of patience and encouragement grant you to be like-minded with one another in the manner of Messiah Jesus, so that together, with one voice, you may glorify the God and Father of our

Paul's Travel Plans and Call for Unity

00:07:51
Speaker
Lord Jesus the Messiah.
00:07:54
Speaker
Therefore, accept one another, just as Messiah has accepted you to the glory of God.
00:08:08
Speaker
Jesus made you his friend, so be friends with each other. God is the God of hope Trust in him, and then he can fill you with joy and peace.
00:08:22
Speaker
Which remember, our strong word for that is shalom. That means that God i says he God can fill you with joy anne shalom.
00:08:34
Speaker
And hope can flow in and out of you by the power of God's spirit.
00:08:42
Speaker
We're going to read verse 13 in our big Bible. Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and shalom in trusting so that you may overflow with hope in the power of the Holy Spirit.
00:09:00
Speaker
These are beautiful well wishes Paul has for us, isn't it?
00:09:05
Speaker
Now I'm sure that you are full of what is good and you know all you need to know so you can teach each other. I have been brave to write about some of these things, and I am helping you remember them again.
00:09:22
Speaker
I've wanted to come and see you for a long time, but right now i am on my way to Jerusalem, and I'm going to help God's people there. I'm taking money that others have sent to help the poor people.
00:09:36
Speaker
And I will make sure that God's people get it, and then i will go on to Spain, and I will visit you on the way. So please help me by praying for me.
00:09:47
Speaker
Ask God to save save me from people who do not believe. And ask God to make my work helpful. I love that prayer.
00:09:59
Speaker
and Ask God to make my work helpful. That is always my prayer. That is definitely my prayer today. Is that you would ask God to make my work helpful.
00:10:15
Speaker
Then if God wants, I can come see you and I will be full of joy. Being with you will make me feel like new. and I pray that the God of Shalom will be with you all.
00:10:32
Speaker
Yes. Amen.
00:10:38
Speaker
And now we're going to conclude the book of Romans. I want you to know that Phoebe is a good person. She helps Jesus' followers. So welcome her the way God's people should be welcomed.
00:10:52
Speaker
Give her any help she needs because she has helped many people. And even I am one of them. Say hello to Priscilla and Akilah. They worked with me for Jesus, and they put their very lives in danger for me. I'm thankful for that.
00:11:10
Speaker
Say hello to the church that meets at their house. Say hello to Appenitus. He is my dear friend. He was the very first person in Asia to believe in Jesus.
00:11:24
Speaker
Wow, isn't that amazing? That person is recorded for all time as being the first person in Asia to believe in Jesus. Wow, that is so cool. ah Paul says to say hello to Mary, which by the way, in Hebrew, the name is Miriam.
00:11:43
Speaker
I thought you might like to know that. Mary actually translates from Hebrew, Miriam. That's such a beautiful name. Mary worked very hard for you.
00:11:56
Speaker
And say hello to the two people who are part of my family. They have been in jail with me and they are great people in the group of Jesus's friends. They believed in Jesus before I did, all tells us.
00:12:11
Speaker
And say hello to Ampliatus. I love him in the Lord. Say hello to the people who work with us in Jesus. Say hello to Apellas.
00:12:23
Speaker
He has had his faith tested, but he still believes and belongs to Jesus. Say hello to the families that believe in Jesus.
00:12:34
Speaker
And say hello to the women who work hard for Jesus. And say hello to my dear friend, Persis. She is another woman woman who works very hard for Jesus.
00:12:47
Speaker
Tell Rufus hello. Jesus chose him and his mother, and she has been like a mother to me, too. Say hi to all the brothers and sisters.
00:13:00
Speaker
Say hello to all of God's people. And when you say hello, give everyone a godly kiss. All of Jesus' churches say hello.
00:13:12
Speaker
And please, watch out for people who start fights.

Teachings on Service and Humility

00:13:18
Speaker
They will try to keep you from doing what you should. Stay away from them.
00:13:24
Speaker
People like that are not serving Jesus. They serve themselves. They say nice things and they tell you how they like you, but they lie.
00:13:36
Speaker
And people who don't see through their lies believe them. Everybody has heard how you obey. and I'm happy about that. But I want you to be wise about what is good and do not have anything to do with what is sinful.
00:13:54
Speaker
Soon God will pound Satan down under your feet. I pray that Jesus' is kind love will be with you. Timothy works with me and he says hello.
00:14:07
Speaker
And so do the three men here who are in my family. And my name is Tertius. Paul is telling me what to write down. And I say hello to you in the Lord.
00:14:20
Speaker
Gaius is making me feel welcome at his house. And the whole church here feels welcome at his house. And Gaius says hi Erastus is in charge of some of the work in the city.
00:14:32
Speaker
He and Quartus say hi. Our only wise God is great forever through Jesus. Yes. Amen.
00:14:45
Speaker
From Paul, Jesus' servant. And that is the end of our reading. And the end of the book of Romans.
00:14:57
Speaker
Wow, there is an entire chapter dedicated to all the hellos. Not only was this a very long letter that Paul was writing, but the letters, they were not quite as common as we have now.
00:15:10
Speaker
So it was a big deal to get this letter. And they were ah they were traveling, you know, they were in different areas. So this was communication from one of God's communities And Paul was talking about how he was going to travel. to He was on his way to Jerusalem.
00:15:31
Speaker
And then he would travel to Spain. And on his way back, then he would go see the Romans. My gosh. this was These were long trips. These were all on foot.
00:15:44
Speaker
And I am i just thought that was just so neat. that That is a real piece of history right there. That whole last chapter, all of the personalization that goes, that went into that letter.
00:15:57
Speaker
Oh my gosh. It's like we were there with them. Don't you think? Well, Paul did a great job reminding us of the very important things that he covered in the letter that we already read about.
00:16:11
Speaker
And you can see that almost as an afterthought, right before he closed that letter, Paul says to the people in Rome, please watch out for people who start fights.
00:16:23
Speaker
They will try to keep you from doing what you should. And stay away from them because people like that are not serving Jesus. They are serving themselves.
00:16:34
Speaker
They will say nice things to you. They will tell you how they like you, but they lie. And people who don't see through their lies believe them.
00:16:46
Speaker
So what Paul is talking about is things that cause division. Paul tells us in the beginning of this ah chapter 15, he says that we need to be kind to people who don't have much faith and we should try to make other people happy, that we should try to build one another up, that we should try to do good for them and help them.
00:17:13
Speaker
And as an example, Paul reminds us that even Jesus himself did not try to make himself happy. We have a saying these days and it says, look out for number one.
00:17:28
Speaker
We are not meant to be number one. If we're going to look out for number one, then that number one is God and Jesus. And then we have others.
00:17:39
Speaker
Then we have ourselves. That doesn't mean that we neglect ourselves. That just means that we are looking out for other people, that we are taking care of them.
00:17:51
Speaker
before we help other before we put all of our attention onto ourselves, that we are not selfish. Paul tells us that people who start fights are really just serving themselves.
00:18:04
Speaker
And we are not meant to serve ourselves, because not even Jesus did. Instead, we are to serve one another. Now, does that sound familiar? Did someone else tell us about serving one another?
00:18:18
Speaker
That's right, Jesus did. He told us that those who want to be great in his kingdom needed to serve one another. That's how we become great in God's kingdom.
00:18:32
Speaker
It's by service. Serving one another. Looking out for one another. Building one another up. Paul tells us today that those who are strong need to look out for those who are not so strong.
00:18:48
Speaker
And this is what Jesus was talking about too. He says to serve one another. And he washed the disciples' feet. And he says this that I am doing, you also need to do for one another.
00:19:01
Speaker
For he who wants to be the greatest must become the least among you. We are not to be self-serving, self-promoting. We are meant to serve God and serve one another.
00:19:16
Speaker
Paul tells us that Jesus himself is serving God. And if he is serving, how much more so do we need to serve? We are servants of the God Most High.
00:19:30
Speaker
But you know what? Beyond being servants, Jesus called us his friends. Because we know everything. We know what he is doing. We know what he did.
00:19:42
Speaker
And he says that I have not kept anything from us. Jesus has said that we are his friends. And Paul tells us this too. Jesus made he you his friend.
00:19:55
Speaker
So... Be friends with each other. Once again, we see in chapter 15 how important unity in God's body of believers is.
00:20:08
Speaker
Paul stresses this unity all throughout his letter. There is so much encouragement to be unified, to be unified in every way, to look out for one another, to be thoughtful of one another, to build one another up.
00:20:27
Speaker
I love that. So once again, that's part of our daily application today is to remember to be careful of those who are trying to start fights, those who are trying to cause division in the body.
00:20:43
Speaker
And we need to be focused on what makes us one. I love this prayer that he gives us too. Paul says, i pray that God will help you work together to follow Jesus.
00:20:57
Speaker
And that way it will seem like you have one heart. Together you can show God's greatness. So we're going to read again verses five through seven because it stresses this unity.
00:21:16
Speaker
May the God of patience and encouragement grant you to be like-minded with one another in the manner of Messiah Jesus, so that together with one voice, you may glorify the Lord and Father of our Lord, Yeshua the Messiah, Jesus the Messiah.
00:21:41
Speaker
I love that. That is my favorite.
00:21:47
Speaker
I trying to see if there was another verse here that I needed to include.
00:21:52
Speaker
Nope, that was it. Well, I hope that you are once again feeling encouraged to be unified. It might seem like we are hammering this point in, but this was very important to Paul that the believers be unified.
00:22:09
Speaker
There was a lot of division going on.

Final Reflections and Prayer for Unity

00:22:11
Speaker
There was arguing between the Jewish believers, the Gentile believers, between Gentiles and Jews, and even unbelieving Jews.
00:22:21
Speaker
And this was not something that Paul wanted to see going on. He wants to encourage us to be aware of things that will cause division, including when they are other people that are causing this division.
00:22:36
Speaker
We all know about troublemakers. They always try to say negative things. They're stirring up trouble. they're always They've always got something nasty to say. Paul says that he wants to be sure that He says, I want you to be wise about what is good and do not have anything to do with what is sinful.
00:22:59
Speaker
So that is very important. We need to be wise in what is good. And we need to be careful about what is sinful. Don't have anything to do with it.
00:23:13
Speaker
We talked about being transformed by the mind. And that is where bad thoughts start. They start in the mind. And once we start entertaining these thoughts that people can give us, these people who are trying to start fights, then that is where we start to have division.
00:23:34
Speaker
So Paul wants us to be sure that we are aware of this trap. so that we don't fall into it, but instead that we are like-minded, that we are one in Jesus.
00:23:47
Speaker
It's very important that we become reconciled, not just to God, but to one another. We can say things like, you know, I don't hate certain people. I hate all people equally. You know, and terrible things like that.
00:24:03
Speaker
We are not meant to hate anyone. We are meant to love everyone. And so it is very important, much more so, that we make the effort to love those who are believers.
00:24:18
Speaker
They are our spiritual body parts. We are all important and we need to remember to look out for one another. Well, I hope that you have a fantastic rest of your day, whatever day you have gotten around to watching or listening to today's daily reading out of our Day by Day Kids Bible.
00:24:40
Speaker
If you are encouraged by today's reading and you feel like God has lit your light today, please go ahead and click that light button. And before I forget, Paul gave a lot of shout outs today.
00:24:53
Speaker
And I would like to give a shout out to Kitty. at Pomerado Hospital. It was a delight that God put us together at the hospital today. And I want to give God the glory for that too, that she was there and that she encouraged me and that she is a light working at the hospital.
00:25:11
Speaker
It was so lovely to be able to speak to one of my sisters in Christ at the hospital working there. I love it when we wear our little,
00:25:22
Speaker
um crosses or something that shows that we are a believer. And then we can be readily identified by one another. And I always look for little things like that.
00:25:34
Speaker
And that's one way that we can encourage unity is to try to look for little things that identify ourselves. And it's like wearing a little bitty name badge or something. This is, hi, I'm your bully. I'm your sister.
00:25:47
Speaker
And then that softens our spirit. It opens the door to conversation because whenever I see cross or something that shows me that somebody is a believer, i i always say, oh, I see that you are my sister I see that you are my brother.
00:26:05
Speaker
Sometimes people wear tattoos and whatever it is that people have that identifies them, I love to see that. They might be reading their Bible. There might be a Bible verse somewhere. They might even have a Bible verse tattooed on them.
00:26:20
Speaker
And it's just, it's always great to be able to break that ice big and have unity wherever we go, wherever God's spirit takes us. even if it's to the emergency room.
00:26:32
Speaker
So thank you, Kitty, for subscribing. You showed me that you hit that subscribe button. Thank you for lighting your light. Thank you for being God's light at Pomerado Hospital.
00:26:42
Speaker
I really appreciated seeing that. And I'm so thankful that God has put you exactly where he has put you to do the good work that he has given you to do. So thank you so much, everybody, for joining me. I hope that you will be hungry again tomorrow.
00:26:59
Speaker
for some more of God's word. And tomorrow, let's see, we are going to be heading back into the book Acts and reading about ah some amazing things that happened there. So have a fantastic rest of your day. And you know what I was going to pray this prayer as well. Before we go, Paul was prayerful.
00:27:19
Speaker
And I want to pray this prayer for all of us today. I pray that God will help you work together to follow Jesus. And that way it will seem like you have one heart and together you can show God's greatness.
00:27:37
Speaker
And I pray also that God will make your work helpful. And in Jesus' name, I pray these things for all of us here watching and listening.
00:27:48
Speaker
Amen. See you next
