Today's we will finish reading Paul's first letter to the Corinthians with Chapters 15 and 16.

Today we will read about why we matter and why the work God gives us to do matters! (spoiler alert: BECAUSE JESUS REALLY DID DIE FOR OUR SINS AND COME BACK TO LIFE ON THE THIRD DAY AND WE WILL LIVE AGAIN, TOO!)

In our discussion for daily application we will talk about how the adversary loves to tell us that we don't matter, that what we are doing doesn't matter, is a waste of time, and isn't doing any good. And then we will talk about how YOU MATTER, I MATTER, THE WORK GOD GIVES US TO DO MATTERS, and like Paul encouraged us today, we need to keep strong faith, be brave, be strong, and do everything in love. Don't be discouraged or give up. YOU MATTER and the work God has given you to do matters, even if you can't see the fruit of your labor. We can remember Abraham, who never got to see how all nations would be saved through him, but he believed God and it was credited to him as righteousness. We, too, can trust God and have faith in God to know that not only did Jesus die and return to life, but so will we. Because of this truth, we know that none of the work we do for God is for nothing!

Introduction and Purpose

00:00:03
Speaker
Hello everybody! Today is November 4th. My name is Robin. I'm with In The Family Way Coaching and together we are here for our daily reading through the Day by Day Kids Bible written by Karen Henley.

00:00:33
Speaker
And ah I want to say thank you so much for joining

Annual Reading Plan

00:00:37
Speaker
us. I'm glad that you are enjoying the event and I hope that you will stick around for the rest of the year. We do have the entire year's Bible readings.
00:00:48
Speaker
So if you want to start again in January, those readings are right there for

Focus on 1 Corinthians

00:00:53
Speaker
you. Ready to go anytime you're ready. Well, speaking of calendar, if you are following along and with your calendar, go ahead and take that out and get your sticker ready or whatever you're using to mark off the days because we're about to hear the Bible today.
00:01:13
Speaker
Today, we are going to be completing the first Corinthians letter that Paul wrote to the Corinthians. And today are going to be continuing on to explain out about using our gifts that the Spirit gives us.

Importance of Actions

00:01:31
Speaker
But more importantly, we're going to be looking at why what we are doing matters. You may feel sometimes that what you're doing is not making a difference.
00:01:44
Speaker
And today's reading is going to encourage us that what we do matters. Everything we do matters. We want to remember things like Abraham.
00:01:56
Speaker
Abraham was given a promise by God that he would bless all nations. All nations would come from him that would be saved. And Abraham never got to see that promise come to fruition.
00:02:11
Speaker
He also was promised by God that his descendants would have possession of all of the lands that God was showing him. And yet he never got to see that.
00:02:24
Speaker
So he might have thought that what he was doing wasn't mattering. And that's not the case. What Abraham did mattered. We read about it.
00:02:36
Speaker
And what we do matters.

Resurrection Discussion

00:02:39
Speaker
So today we are going to be looking at 1 Corinthians chapters 15 and 16.
00:02:49
Speaker
Our first section
00:02:54
Speaker
is entitled Coming Back to Life in our in our reading here today. But I entitled it Why What We Do Matters. Paul says to us,
00:03:08
Speaker
I want to help you remember the good news about Jesus. I told you about it and you believed it. I taught you the most important thing I ever learned.
00:03:22
Speaker
That Jesus died for our sins. It happened just like God's word said it would. He was put in a grave and he came back to life on the third day.
00:03:36
Speaker
Jesus let Peter see him. And then the rest of Jesus' special friends saw him. And after that, Jesus came to more than 500 friends at the same time.
00:03:51
Speaker
Now, most of them are still alive, but some of them have died. Jesus let James see him. And then all the apostles saw him.
00:04:03
Speaker
And last of all, He let me see him too. And I was like a person who was born later. I'm not an important apostle, and I really shouldn't even be called an apostle because I used to hurt Jesus' followers.
00:04:23
Speaker
But I am what I am because of God's kind love. God's kind love changed me. I worked hard, but it was not for me.
00:04:38
Speaker
it was with It was God's kind love that was with me.

Implications of No Resurrection

00:04:45
Speaker
Now, we told you that Jesus came back to life again. But what if Jesus did not come back to life?
00:04:54
Speaker
Well, then our teaching is good for nothing. And your faith is good for nothing. And what's more, we are lying about God.
00:05:06
Speaker
What if dead people do not live again? Well, then God didn't make Jesus live again. and what if Jesus is not alive? Well, then you are still lost in your sins.
00:05:21
Speaker
But what if we have hope just in this life? Well, then people should feel more sorry for us than for anybody.
00:05:31
Speaker
But Jesus really has come back to life. He was the first to die and the first to come back to life forever. Our big Bible says that he is the first fruits of those who have risen again.
00:05:50
Speaker
Jesus lives, so he will come back again. and his followers will come back to life too. Then the end will come.
00:06:03
Speaker
And Jesus will get rid of every other power. And he will be in charge until he controls all of his enemies. And the last enemy he will get rid of is death.
00:06:17
Speaker
And then Jesus will give the kingdom to God the Father. And God will be in charge of everything.
00:06:28
Speaker
Now, what if dead people don't come back to life?

Resurrection and Transformation

00:06:31
Speaker
Then some people say, let's eat and drink as much as we want because tomorrow we'll just die. do not believe a lie like that.
00:06:43
Speaker
Bad friends mess up the good in you.
00:06:48
Speaker
Our the big Bible version says in verse 33 that bad company corrupts good morals.
00:06:57
Speaker
Now someone may ask, How do dead people come back to life? What kind of body will they have? Now that's silly.
00:07:08
Speaker
A seed you plant has to die first, and then it comes back to life. God gives it the plant body that he planned for it. And he gives each kind of seed its own plant body.
00:07:25
Speaker
So we need to wake up and think and stop sinning. and Some people don't even know who God is.
00:07:34
Speaker
Now all bodies are not the same because people have one kind of body, animals have another kind of body, birds have another kind, and fish have another kind.
00:07:47
Speaker
And there are heavenly bodies and there are earthly bodies. Heavenly bodies have one kind of beauty, and earthly bodies have another kind. The sun has one kind of beauty, and the moon has another kind.
00:08:04
Speaker
The stars have another. And even the stars are different from each other in how they shine. Coming back to life will be the same way.
00:08:16
Speaker
The body will die one day, but it will come alive again. And after that... It will never die.
00:08:25
Speaker
But before it dies, the body grows like a plant. And it's not very important. But after it dies, it comes back to life, showing God's power.
00:08:38
Speaker
And before it dies, it is weak. But when it comes back to life, it is strong.
00:08:47
Speaker
And before it dies, it is a human body. But when it comes back to life, it is a spirit body. Now, human bodies cannot get into God's kingdom.
00:09:01
Speaker
Things that die don't fit where things never die. Listen, I am telling you a mystery. We won't all die, but we will all be changed.
00:09:18
Speaker
we will be changed in a flash, as quick as a wink. It will happen when the last horn sounds, the great shofar. The horn will sound and play, and then the dead people will come back to life.
00:09:34
Speaker
They will never die again. Now people who are alive will be changed, and things that die must become things that never die. And when that happens, Isaiah's words will come true.
00:09:51
Speaker
We have won over death. And Hosea said it like this. Death, what did you win? Now where is your power to hurt?
00:10:04
Speaker
Now death hurts because of sin. And sin has power. And that's because the law says that we are in trouble if we sin. But thank God Jesus took our place when he died for us.
00:10:20
Speaker
So we do not have to get into trouble. Jesus helps us win over sin. So stay with Jesus and don't let anything move you away.
00:10:33
Speaker
Always do your best work for the Lord because you know that none of the work you do for him is nothing
00:10:45
Speaker
this is where it's This is how it tells us that what we do, what you do, matters. You know that none of the work you do for him is for nothing.

Teachings on Giving

00:11:01
Speaker
Chapter 16. This is called choosing how much to give.
00:11:08
Speaker
Paul says, now let's talk about giving money for God's people.
00:11:15
Speaker
As I directed to Messiah's communities in Galatia, I will tell you the same. Each person should give some of his money and do it on the first day of the week.
00:11:28
Speaker
People can choose how much to give and they can choose by looking at how much money they make. Save some money and then you will have it ready when I come.
00:11:41
Speaker
Now Paul is not talking about tithing. He is talking about a special gift, it says, for God's people. And he's going to be taking it to Jerusalem, is what he's going to be telling us.
00:11:53
Speaker
I will write letters to God's people in Jerusalem and choose some men to take the letters and the money. And they can take it to Jerusalem as a gift.
00:12:06
Speaker
I might go too, if it seems like I should. And then I will come back to see you. And I might even stay all winter. And that way, you can help me get ready for my next trip.
00:12:19
Speaker
I will stay here in Ephesus until Shavuot, the holiday of weeks. It's possible for me to do some good work here. It's like a door that has been opened for me.
00:12:33
Speaker
But many people are against me. Now, Timothy may come to see you and make sure that he doesn't worry about anything. He is doing God's work, just like I am, and everybody should welcome him.
00:12:47
Speaker
Our big Bible says to treat him with respect.
00:12:52
Speaker
And then send him on his way and in shalom so that he can come back to me because I am expecting him.
00:13:03
Speaker
Now let me tell you about Apollos. I tried to get him to go and see you, but he didn't want to go right now. He will go some other time when he can. Now be careful.
00:13:18
Speaker
Keep a strong faith. Be brave. Be strong. And do everything with love. The family of Stephanas was the first to follow Jesus in Greece.
00:13:32
Speaker
They help God's people, and I hope that you will let them lead you. Follow everyone who is hard at work for God.
00:13:44
Speaker
I was glad when Stephanas came with two other men. They made up for your absence. They made my spirit feel like new again. We should listen to men like them.
00:13:58
Speaker
Jesus' followers in Asia say hello. Akela and Priscilla send warm hello in the Lord, and so do

Closing Remarks and Greetings

00:14:07
Speaker
all of God's people who meet at their house.
00:14:11
Speaker
God's people here say hello, and to tell each other hello with a godly kiss.
00:14:18
Speaker
I, Paul, am writing this hello with my own hand, and I send my love to all of you in Jesus' name. Yes, amen.
00:14:31
Speaker
In verse 22 in our big Bible, he ah he also says, Maranatha, which means God has come or God comes.
00:14:45
Speaker
And I did not know that that's where mayor that we where we get our word that we say today as Maranatha or Maranatha. But it is Aramaic for the Lord comes or the Lord will come.

Spiritual Gifts and Impact

00:14:59
Speaker
depending on ah how you pronounce it with Maranatha or Maranatha. It changes the meaning just slightly. From Paul and Sosthenes, followers of Jesus.
00:15:16
Speaker
And that is the end of our reading today.
00:15:22
Speaker
So how do you like that? What we do who matters. And it matters because Jesus is the first fruits of those who have been risen from the dead.
00:15:33
Speaker
Because God did bring him back from the dead. So that means that we will also join him as well. We are not simply living out a false faith.
00:15:46
Speaker
We believe the truth. And therefore, that means that God gives us good work to do to further his kingdom so that other people can know about him and that they also may be saved.
00:16:01
Speaker
And so you can feel like your spiritual gift is not important because remember, Paul has also been talking about the spiritual gifts. And we can feel like we're not doing much or we're not that important.
00:16:14
Speaker
We can feel like what we are doing doesn't matter. We might not be able to see the fruit of what we are doing. And just like with Abraham, he didn't get to see the fruit.
00:16:28
Speaker
He had to just trust in God to know that what he was doing was mattering. It mattered. And that he was obeying God.
00:16:39
Speaker
And big Bible tells us that Abraham believed God and his faith was credited to him as righteousness. So we too can trust our Lord, our Savior, and our God to know that Jesus absolutely did come back to life and that he will return again.
00:17:01
Speaker
And that's why we tell people about this good news. Because when he died, he saved us from our sins. So the work that we are doing for God is not in vain.
00:17:15
Speaker
It is not pointless. there's It is not that we have no point to our life. And everything we do, loving everybody, using our spiritual gifts, telling people about Jesus and God, everything we do that's part of our spiritual gift, it matters.
00:17:37
Speaker
Our adversary loves to tell us that we don't matter. And you know what? you can tell him to go back to you know where because he wants to discourage us.
00:17:49
Speaker
But what we do matters. And Paul is wonderful to give us that encouragement.
00:17:58
Speaker
So let's see what else Paul had it encourages us to keep strong, keep a strong faith, be brave, be strong, and remember to do everything in love Even that matters.
00:18:14
Speaker
All of it, it matters. Paul tells us that if we were just living for our our physical life, then people should feel sorry for us more than anybody because we are denying ourselves the physical life is what he's referring to.
00:18:32
Speaker
We are meant to bring our physical body into submission so that we are doing what our spirit wants us to do. Jesus tells us that our ah body is willing, our spirit is willing rather, but our body is weak.
00:18:47
Speaker
And so that is where we need to trust in him to help us to be strong. Paul tells us that our physical body is strong, but our spirit, or I'm sorry, I misspoke again.
00:18:58
Speaker
Our physical body is weak, but our spirit is strong and our spiritual bodies are strong. And we will all be back to life at some point.
00:19:13
Speaker
So I hope that you are encouraged. I hope that you absolutely love today's reading. And so that you don't ever let our enemy tell us or to tell you that what you're doing is not making any difference in the world.

Reflection on Community and Work

00:19:28
Speaker
Because we are all making a difference. Even just me doing this little Bible reading with all 46 followers here on YouTube. And I think it's eight now on Apple. And I can't see any other followers elsewhere. Oh, there's like four on Spotify.
00:19:45
Speaker
And i don't know where all the other listens are going to. have no idea. But here we are. We're just a small group. We are less than 100. And you know what?
00:19:59
Speaker
What I'm doing matters. And I love that. I love doing God's work today. God, as always just put people right in my path.
00:20:10
Speaker
And so I am late getting my, my daily recording out today ah because I had other things to do yeah He was putting people in my path that I had things to do at work and I couldn't get it done this morning. I had other things to do today. Like today's the fourth, so it's voting day.
00:20:26
Speaker
So I needed to be sure and get out the door and do that. And, We just, we have things to do and it might seem like, oh, I didn't get it out in time. The reading's not gonna matter, but that is not so.
00:20:40
Speaker
You are here, you are listening, whatever day you get around to to watching or listening to the day's reading. So it doesn't, ah it's it's not for nothing.
00:20:52
Speaker
I might be getting it out late, but it's still going to get out and it's not for nothing. So thank you for your faithfulness to listen to the readings, whatever day you get time to get around to them.

Gratitude and Future Engagement

00:21:05
Speaker
And for your grace and coming to listen, even though I'm not getting it out and in the early part of the day, it still matters. Your listening matters. And you're making a difference every day, no matter how young or how old we are.
00:21:22
Speaker
So thank you so much for following along with our daily reading today for our November 4th daily reading out of the Day by Day Kids Bible. I hope that you are hungry for more of God's word.
00:21:35
Speaker
I hope that if you are ah hungry for today's reading that you go check out in your big Bible and you read chapters 15 and 16. If you feel that you want to know a little bit more, if you feel that we missed some detail perhaps,
00:21:51
Speaker
I do try to include some of the words and ah the details that I i find are not necessarily included or are more strongly written in our big Bible. And I want to, i like the bigger version sometimes, just a little bit.
00:22:07
Speaker
So thank you. And I hope that you are going to join me again for tomorrow's daily reading. That's what I was about to say too, with our, if you're hungry for more of God's word, I hope you will come back tomorrow to be fed.
00:22:20
Speaker
And i hope that you have a fantastic rest of your day, whatever day you've gotten around to watching or listening to this October or not October, November 4th reading.

Encouragement to Share God's Word

00:22:30
Speaker
You can tell I'm tired.
00:22:33
Speaker
It's late for me.
00:22:37
Speaker
And I would like to also, before you go, encourage you to click that light button. Click that ah thumbs up or click that heart. Thank you so much for clicking that follow and that subscribe.
00:22:49
Speaker
And let's try that share button. We can share it on social media. You can share it by email. You can share it by text, however it is you want to share it. But let's help spread the word about reading God's word because somewhere somebody needs to be encouraged.
00:23:05
Speaker
but To remember that what they are doing matters. That it is not for nothing the work that God has given them to do. It's not too little. It matters.
00:23:17
Speaker
You matter. I will see you next time for our daily reading. I hope you have a very blessed day until then.
