Today we will read about following God and being different from people who do not follow God. We will read about remembering God's promises and looking up to God as being motivation to become right and good. Lastly, we will read about generosity and helping one another out of our abundance.

In our discussion for daily application we will talk about how God provides EVERYTHING we need for us. It is right and good that we should use the abundance of what God has given us to share with others so that no one is in need.

Introduction to Daily Bible Reading

00:00:03
Speaker
Well, hello there. Welcome back. Today is November 7th. My name is Robin. I'm within the Family Way Coaching, and together we are here for our daily Bible reading through the Day by Day Kids Bible, written by Karen Henley.
00:00:19
Speaker
Thank you so much for joining me again today, whether you are following along on that podcast or whether you are watching the video somewhere. And if you are a new viewer, a new subscriber, a new follower, I want to extend a special welcome and shout out. Hello so to you!
00:00:35
Speaker
I am so glad that you have found this event and that you are joining us.

Chronological Bible Reading Importance

00:00:40
Speaker
Since it is later in the year and you may be a newer viewer, want to let you know that this has been going on since January 1st.
00:00:48
Speaker
We are reading through the entire Bible this year using the Day by Day Kids Bible written by Karen Henley. And this is chronological Bible so that we can understand all of God's big picture for us.
00:01:02
Speaker
it can be difficult to know the entire Bible, the whole picture of what everything everything that happened. And sometimes in different books of the Bible, the same event is recorded in more than one book.
00:01:17
Speaker
And so it can be confusing when you're reading different books of the Bible to know if you have already read about this event or whether it's happened again, because a lot of the things did happen more than one time.
00:01:29
Speaker
So this Bible takes all of the events of the Bible and puts it in one timeline so that we can read one continuous story.

Commitment to Daily Reading

00:01:38
Speaker
And it's fantastic.
00:01:40
Speaker
It's also written in a slightly easier to understand way so that we can all understand it no matter how young. For instance, Diamond, you are six now, but you were, I think, five when we started, weren't you?
00:01:54
Speaker
And all the way up to Mickey, who 90.
00:01:59
Speaker
And he is loving it. So if you are between the ages of approximately 5 and 90, you might like this event.
00:02:09
Speaker
Well, before we go any further, I don't want to forget about this. Go ahead and take out your bookmarking commitment calendar and get your sticker ready or whatever you're using to mark off your days because we are definitely going to hear the Bible today.
00:02:25
Speaker
I have that calendar available on my site. There is a link down below in the description. And if you are interested, it's just a free calendar that you can download as like a bookmark or a commitment calendar.
00:02:38
Speaker
It helps you to know where you left off because you may not have time to listen for a couple of days or maybe a week, and then it will remind you of where you left off. So if you just mark off the days, then you will know where to pick up again.

Themes in 2 Corinthians

00:02:52
Speaker
It also serves as a little bit of a motivation because we are trying to fill up all of the days with our mark, whether it's a sticker or however you're marking your days off.
00:03:05
Speaker
And that way you can see your progress and it can just be really nice to see how much you've achieved. So like for you, Diamond and Forest and Jedi and Pearl and Julie, you guys will have whole year worth calendar because you have been here from the very beginning.
00:03:26
Speaker
And if you are interested in starting again in January, the event will be there for you. You can start it at any time, but it will be up there yeah all the way.
00:03:37
Speaker
all all through the year so you can continue to um catch up by restarting in January for those of you who are newer or did not join us from the very beginning. This has been a great year, reading the getting the whole big picture of the Bible.
00:03:54
Speaker
This is fantastic. I just think it's a really great achievement to not only read it, but to understand God's big picture for us.

Paul's Teachings on Faith and Love

00:04:03
Speaker
So without any further ado, we are going to be heading into the second letter that Paul wrote to the Corinthians and we are going to be picking up in chapter 6, 7, and 8 today.
00:04:15
Speaker
Today, Paul is going to be talking to us about a couple of different things. One, he's going to be talking about what it looks like to be a follower of God. It involves being different.
00:04:27
Speaker
And then the next thing he's going to talk about us ah talk about with us is he's going to be talking about motivation. We just talked about that with our calendar.
00:04:39
Speaker
He's going to be talking about motivation for helping us get our hearts clean. And he's going to be also talking in the third chapter to today about generosity.
00:04:53
Speaker
And this particular subject is was very applicable to me today. and I will share some of that, of what happened with me today. And it's totally I just love how God works the daily Bible reading into my day. And I know I'm not the only one, but you I hope that you are all having amazing encounters and experiences that you can witness about to tell how God has been using these daily applications in your life.
00:05:26
Speaker
Because all the time he uses these daily readings in my life when I understand it. And then God gives me an opportunity to practice it and then to experience it, it just really solidifies it so that we have really deep understanding.
00:05:44
Speaker
And I love that God is doing that with me this year, and I am sure that he is doing that with you this year too.

Believers' Distinction from Non-believers

00:05:52
Speaker
Let's go ahead and pick up in chapter 6 of the 2 Corinthians letter. Paul starts off by telling us that we want to show that we are God's followers.
00:06:06
Speaker
We keep on following Him. We follow God in troubles. We follow Him in hard times. We follow Him in worries.
00:06:18
Speaker
We follow God when people beat us. We follow Him when they put us in jail. We follow Him when they get together and shout at us.
00:06:29
Speaker
We follow Him when we work hard. We follow Him when we don't get to sleep at night. I had that last night. Oh boy, I could not sleep last night.
00:06:41
Speaker
We follow him when we are hungry. We follow him when we do what is right. We follow him when we understand.
00:06:53
Speaker
We follow him when we wait quietly. We follow him when we're kind. We follow God's Holy Spirit.
00:07:05
Speaker
And we follow God with true love. We follow him by telling the truth. We follow him in his power.
00:07:17
Speaker
We follow, we are true. But people think we lie. People know us, but they treat us as if they did not know us.
00:07:29
Speaker
We are left for dead, but we keep on living. People beat us. but we are not killed. We are sad, but we always show our joy.
00:07:44
Speaker
We are poor, but we make many people rich. We have nothing, but we have everything.
00:07:57
Speaker
we are not keeping our love from you. But you are keeping your love from us. Paul is speaking to the Corinthians. So let's make a fair trade.
00:08:10
Speaker
I am talking to you as if you were my children. Open your hearts wide too. And don't get tied down with people who do not believe in God.
00:08:23
Speaker
Can right and wrong fit together? Can light and darkness be together? Do Jesus and Satan agree?
00:08:34
Speaker
Does a believer agree with someone who does not believe? Is God's worship house the same as idols' worship houses?
00:08:45
Speaker
We are God's living worship house. God said long ago, i will live with them. I will walk among them.
00:08:58
Speaker
I will be their God. and they will be my people.

Commitment and Correction in Corinthians

00:09:03
Speaker
Come away from other people and be different, says God. Don't get near anything bad.
00:09:11
Speaker
Then i will welcome you. I will be your father, and you will be my sons and daughters.
00:09:23
Speaker
Paul was a Pharisee. I'm interjecting this into our reading. That means that he knew the old covenant very well. He had studied it and studied it.
00:09:34
Speaker
And so he was very familiar with God's word. And he was also able to communicate because he was a good teacher and And so he is quoting from many different passages in the Old Covenant where God gave this message to the people.
00:09:53
Speaker
And he is helping them to understand that God wants us to be different.
00:10:02
Speaker
Paul continues on, though. He says, We should think about God's promises, dear friends, and then we will want to make our hearts clean.
00:10:14
Speaker
So let's get rid of everything sinful that makes our spirits dirty. Let's become right and good because we look up to God. You know that we have not hurt anyone, and I'm not saying this to blame you, says Paul.
00:10:31
Speaker
I said before that you have a big place in our hearts, and we would live with you or die with you.

Generosity and the Macedonian Example

00:10:39
Speaker
i am very proud of you. No matter what troubles we have, my joy is great.
00:10:48
Speaker
Here is what happened when we got to Macedonia. We had no rest. Instead, we were bothered everywhere we turned. We had problems on the outside.
00:11:01
Speaker
We had fear on the inside. But God helps people when they are down. And he helped us feel better by sending our friend Titus.
00:11:13
Speaker
And Titus told us that you wanted to see me. He told me how sad you were. And he told me how worried you were about me. And that made me happier than ever.
00:11:27
Speaker
Paul is talking about the fact that he feels good because they were showing care for him.
00:11:34
Speaker
I may have made you sad by my first letter, and I'm not happy because you were sad, but I am happy that your sadness led you to change and do right.
00:11:47
Speaker
We call that correction. See what being sorry in a godly way has done for you. You want very much to be clean and good, and you are upset by sin.
00:12:01
Speaker
And it scares you. And you want very much to do what is right. I pray that is also true with all of us here too.
00:12:12
Speaker
That we would want very much to be clean and good. And to be upset by sin. And we want very much to do what is right.
00:12:24
Speaker
Paul continues, God's people in Macedonia had very hard times. They were very poor, but they ended up giving a lot.
00:12:36
Speaker
They gave as much as they could, and they even gave more than they could. They begged us to let them share. First, they gave themselves to God.
00:12:51
Speaker
Then, they gave to us. That's just what God wanted. So we ask Titus to help you also with your giving.
00:13:03
Speaker
You do a great job at everything. You are good at believing. You are good at talking. You are good at knowing things.
00:13:14
Speaker
You are good at wanting to do right. You are good at loving us. So do a great job in your giving too.

God's Provision in Exodus

00:13:25
Speaker
I'm not ordering you to do this, but I want to see how much you truly love. You know about Jesus' kind love. He was rich, but he became poor to help you.
00:13:42
Speaker
Because he did this, you can have his riches. Now last year you were the first to give, and you wanted to give.
00:13:54
Speaker
So finish what you started and look at what you have. Then give whatever you can. We don't want others to be rich while you are poor.
00:14:05
Speaker
We simply want everyone to have ah enough. Right now, your riches can give poor people what they need. And someday, their riches can give you what you need.
00:14:22
Speaker
And then I'm going to insert verse five
00:14:29
Speaker
here in our reading.
00:14:32
Speaker
And 15 rather, I'm sorry. Verse 15. That's not included in our reading.
00:14:45
Speaker
Sorry about that delay there.
00:14:50
Speaker
Paul is writing, I'm actually show going to start in verse 13. It is not relief for others and hardship for you, but as a matter of equality, your abundance at this present time meets their needs so that their abundance may also meet your need so that there may be equality.
00:15:15
Speaker
And here is verse 15. As it is written, he who gathered much did not have too much, and he who gathered little did not have too little.
00:15:28
Speaker
And that is the end of our reading today. And we're going to talk about that verse as it is written, he who gathered much did not have too much and he who gathered little did not have too little.
00:15:42
Speaker
Remember a few minutes ago we spoke about that Paul was a Pharisee and he was very familiar with the teaching of the old covenant. So Paul is actually quoting Exodus chapter 16, verse 18 here.
00:15:58
Speaker
And he is referencing the story of the time when God provided and brought manna and quail to the Israelite people for the very first time.
00:16:10
Speaker
And we're going to look at that. All of God's word is useful for teaching. And we've been learning that this year, that everything that we read about, it's an example for us of how to live or how to not live.
00:16:26
Speaker
And so we are we see God's faithfulness all throughout the Bible. In all of history, we see how faithful God has been. And so Paul is showing God's faithfulness by ah giving the examples of how God provided in the past.
00:16:45
Speaker
And God has earned our trust. He has always been trustworthy. To be faithful means to be trustworthy. We can put our trust in God and know that he will always come through for us.
00:16:59
Speaker
So in chapter 16 of Exodus, and it's verse 18, I'm actually going to go a little bit before that.
00:17:14
Speaker
In chapter 16 of verse 10, it says, Aaron spoke to the whole congregation of the children of Israel. They looked toward the wilderness, and the glory of the Lord appeared in the cloud.
00:17:27
Speaker
And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, I have heard the complaining of the children of Israel. Speak to them, saying, At dusk you will eat meat, and in the morning you will be filled with bread.
00:17:41
Speaker
And then you will know that I am the Lord your God. So when evening fell, quails came up and covered the camp. Moreover, in the morning, there was a layer of dew all around the camp.
00:17:57
Speaker
And when the layer of dew was gone, on the surface of the desert was a thin, flake-like frost, as fine as the frost on the ground.
00:18:10
Speaker
And when the children of Israel saw it, they said to one another, What is it? For they did not know what it was. And then Moses said to them, It is the bread that the Lord has given you to eat.
00:18:26
Speaker
And this is the word that the Lord has commanded. Every man is to gather according to his needs an omer, which is a unit of measurement.
00:18:38
Speaker
It's about two quarts. One omer went two quarts per person according to the number of people per household, and each man is to take it for those who are in his tent.

Joyful Giving as a Choice

00:18:52
Speaker
So the children of Israel did so, and some gathered more, some less, and when they measured it with an omer, those who gathered more had nothing left over, and those that gathered less did not lack at all.
00:19:10
Speaker
Every man gathered according to his appetite.
00:19:16
Speaker
So this is what Paul is talking about. God provides for us. He gives us just enough. And sometimes it may be that we have an abundance so that we can share with others, not so that we can become poor in doing so.
00:19:36
Speaker
and make them rich, but so that there is equality. We are trying to make sure that everyone has enough of what they need. I love that.
00:19:48
Speaker
So our daily application today is generosity. And Paul will speak a little bit more about that tomorrow as well, but we'll leave that for tomorrow. But Paul speaks today and tells us that The people there in Corinth were good at everything.
00:20:09
Speaker
They do a great job at believing, at talking, at knowing things, at wanting to do right, and at loving. And you may also be the same way.
00:20:22
Speaker
This year, we have been learning all about how to make God the most important one in our lives. And we extend that also to Jesus, to make Jesus the most important one in our lives.
00:20:34
Speaker
So by now, you may be doing a great job in everything. You may be great at believing. You may be good at talking to people and sharing witness.
00:20:46
Speaker
You may be good at knowing things and having understanding because you are following along with this reading or reading your Bible on your own or participating in another Bible study too.
00:20:58
Speaker
And you are good at wanting to do right. And you are good at loving. So let's also do a great job in our giving too.
00:21:11
Speaker
We are not ordered to do this. But God loves a cheerful giver. We are to give out of joy, not out of obligation.
00:21:23
Speaker
Let us choose, just as Paul talks earlier about remembering God's promises to help us to become right and good.

Personal Experiences with Generosity

00:21:32
Speaker
we this These are things that we choose to do.
00:21:36
Speaker
it is not a law. It's not that we have to do it. But these are all things that we have the free choice to do. And so let's be joyful givers as well.
00:21:50
Speaker
And give to other people so that there is equality. So that nobody is without. Because there may well come a time when somebody else's abundance may need to supplement you.
00:22:05
Speaker
I know that I experienced that. And I shared that ah that Julie runs a food ministry. Julie is a friend of mine and and she and her lovely children are always watching or listening every day. And I've known them for a very long time.
00:22:24
Speaker
And they run a food ministry here in San Diego. And it's called, I'm drawing a blank on my mind right now, Buckhart Ranch. ministries And so couple of times a month, people come and they they pick up food and they receive food by donation.
00:22:44
Speaker
And there was a time when my refrigerator was going out and I didn't have anything hardly left in my refrigerator. And when I got the new refrigerator, I now have a refrigerator with nothing in it.
00:22:57
Speaker
And on that same day, God had sent her and she brought me bags of beautiful groceries to put into my refrigerator. And she shared her abundance of food with me.
00:23:10
Speaker
And I love that. And ah sometimes, um, i I cook extra and then I share with them as well because I love that family.
00:23:21
Speaker
So there are just times that we we supplement one another. it's not because we have to, it's because we choose to. And today had another experience.
00:23:35
Speaker
um I like to bring ah milk for when I go to church on Saturdays to go with the coffee. And, um They, they like that because, uh, I've been told that milk is very popular to put in the coffee that we have like the non-dairy creamers.
00:23:55
Speaker
And I actually started bringing it because I prefer real milk versus like the non-dairy creamers or the, um, the non, the, um, the little creamers that come in the little cup And I thought to myself, you know, I, cause I'm like a, I'm what I call a milk connoisseur.
00:24:13
Speaker
i love milk. So I will bring milk and, and then I, I, and I will sometimes bring like different kinds of milk, like an almond milk or coconut milk, because I know different people as I've gotten to know the different members of the congregation, they like ah coconut milk or almond milk.
00:24:31
Speaker
And sometimes I don't, I think people just don't even care. But they definitely like ah what they like the real milk is what I've been told. Just any kind of milk, dairy, even non-dairy.
00:24:43
Speaker
So I like to go on Friday. So today happens to be a Friday here in 2025 on November 7th. And I like to go to the grocery store, to to my local store called a Sprouts.
00:24:58
Speaker
And i I like to see ah if there's any milk that's getting ready to be sold like in the next couple of days ah because then I can buy more of it.
00:25:08
Speaker
So I'm being thrifty. and ah And so sometimes there is almond milk or different kinds of milk. Well, they had all kinds of different holiday type creamers and stuff.
00:25:20
Speaker
So I had picked up um like a half a gallon of whole milk that was on the the clearance rack. and And then I had regular half a gallon of almond milk um that was...
00:25:32
Speaker
It was just inexpensive. So I bought that. It was in the refrigerated section. And then as I was heading up to the register, I found that there was um some pumpkin spice non-dairy creamers.
00:25:43
Speaker
And then there was an apple pie spice creamers. And so I picked up a couple of those and I thought, oh, these are nice seasonal things. they don't They don't necessarily have to use these all at once. they They're good for a long time. They're just on clearance.
00:25:59
Speaker
And I like to do that because then it allows me, I look at it as blessings from God, that God is allowing me to buy more for less. And then we have more. i think that that is God multiplying our harvest.
00:26:13
Speaker
So I get up to the front and I had just found some more flavored stuff on clearance. So that was the where the apple pie and the pumpkin spice ones came from. and And they ask you at the register, did you find everything you were looking for? And I said, yes.
00:26:28
Speaker
And I found things. I found extra things. I went through all of your clearance rack stuff today, and I've just been buying everything off the clearance rack today. And I said, I like to bring the milk for church, and I think this will keep them going for a while.
00:26:44
Speaker
And the lady at the register said, you pick up milk for church? And I said, yeah, yeah, we have coffee after church. and um and And so I like to go on Fridays and pick up milk ah in abundance if I can so that we can have milk for our coffee. Cause it's all gonna go that same day, all of it.
00:27:06
Speaker
No matter how much I bring, it all goes. And that way it's like gleaning as well. I don't wanna waste things. So I pick up the stuff that's on clearance. and And she said, well, since you're getting this for church,
00:27:22
Speaker
i'm I'm going to give you some of these at no charge. She said these. So i I had like two of of most of of a couple of things. I had two of the pumpkin spice, two of the apple pie spice, one whole milk, and one almond milk.
00:27:38
Speaker
And so she did not charge me for the whole milk or one of the apple spice or apple pie spice milk and one of the pumpkin pie creamers either.
00:27:54
Speaker
And, and then she didn't charge me for the bags either for me to put all the the different creamers in. And, and then she told me, God bless you. And I was just, I was just really astonished because i was just chit-chatting with her. I wasn't, um you know, boasting about it.
00:28:14
Speaker
I just was very thrilled to have, you found so many different flavors of holiday milk at a good price because I had been looking for a couple of weeks and I was waiting for the different holiday flavors to go on sale so that I could pick some up for the church.
00:28:31
Speaker
And so I just really feel like God blessed, um, the generosity there. And I thanked her for her generosity and, and, um, said to bless her for this evening, that God would bless her this holiday season as well.
00:28:48
Speaker
So but she didn't have to to do that. She was just very generous. She gave out of joy and she was very thoughtful and, um, And I just felt like God really multiplied my generosity. I was purchasing that and and he made the money go further with donation.
00:29:08
Speaker
And so I thought that was so applicable because that was today's daily application. And I am getting this out very late. So this was um this occurred in the day ah right before I got home this evening.
00:29:23
Speaker
And I just was so glad for once that I actually did not have my ah recording for today done yet. So I could share that in real time on how God was using today's daily application in my life today.
00:29:39
Speaker
And it's just incredible, God's timing, the way he works things together. because I didn't even need to go to the store for anything else ah because my husband had already gone to the store to pick up milk for myself here at home.
00:29:52
Speaker
But I had stopped to do that. And God just multiplied the harvest with generosity.

Encouragement for Generosity

00:29:59
Speaker
And so I love sharing ah what God is doing.
00:30:05
Speaker
And I hope that that you are encouraged by that as well.
00:30:11
Speaker
So thank you very much for joining us. I hope that you will ah also be joyful givers and then in the next coming week, that God will give you opportunities to to give.
00:30:24
Speaker
Or if you find somebody who is without, that you would be encouraged to supplement with your out of your abundance so that there would be equality among us.
00:30:36
Speaker
um Not in like a socialist fashion. i'm not I'm not talking like that, like in a political socialism or anything like that, just that what we have that we could share with others, whether you have clothes to donate, whether you have extra food that you have made that you can bring for somebody, um even if you don't know that they have need, even if you just know that that you would like to share.
00:31:00
Speaker
It is good to share. And I hope that you are encouraged to do that because we've learned a lot of lessons this year. And let us also be good at our giving, as Paul says today.
00:31:12
