Introduction to Daily Bible Reading

00:00:03
Speaker
And we're back. Hello, everybody. Today is November 2nd. My name is Robin. I'm within the Family Way Coaching.

Unity and Diversity in the Body of Christ

00:00:12
Speaker
And together, you and I are here for our daily Bible reading through the Day by Day Kids Bible, written by Karen Henley.
00:00:22
Speaker
I am so glad that you are joining me today and every day. I'm so glad that you are hungry for more of God's Word because we are going to read some more today. ah we're going to be reading some of my favorite part of God's Word.
00:00:35
Speaker
We're going to be talking about the body of Christ. So if you are following along on that bookmarking commitment calendar, it's time to get that out and get that sticker ready or whatever you're using to mark up your days because we're about to hear the Bible today.
00:00:56
Speaker
Well, as I mentioned, we are in this ah going to be reading about the body of Christ and we are it. That's right, you and me. We are all parts of God's body.
00:01:09
Speaker
Jesus's body. And we that what that means is that we all have different gifts. We are meant to do different things. We are not all the same.
00:01:21
Speaker
And sometimes we can have a tendency when we see somebody doing something to say, I'm not interested in that. Why don't you do this like I do? And that's not right.
00:01:33
Speaker
because we are all different parts of the body. And Paul's going to talk about that today. And I love that because it's a sense of unity. to remember that we are all different.
00:01:46
Speaker
And we

Different Callings and Passions

00:01:47
Speaker
can have similar gifts or the same gifts as other people, but we have different things that are applicable to each one of us. And so that's part of the beauty of how God designed us to be.
00:02:01
Speaker
and I love that. I get kind of frustrated sometimes because ah there there are people that I know that are very, very passionate about certain things. And I'm very passionate about what I do.
00:02:15
Speaker
But they think that because no one wants to do what they are doing, that they get upset and they say, well, you know, you're supposed to be interested in in doing this with me.
00:02:30
Speaker
And I've explained to them that that is their calling. They are doing what God created them to do. And if I do what they are created to do, who will do what I am doing?
00:02:45
Speaker
that we all have different jobs to do. And so we should do what we are called to do I love that. Being able to do what we are called to do And you know what?
00:02:57
Speaker
There are some things that you wouldn't think people are called to do but they are. And there's a lady where I work and she is part of the cleaning crew.
00:03:09
Speaker
And she so she is ah subcontracted. She doesn't work um as the same type of thing that I do. And she is very diligent.
00:03:21
Speaker
she is she's but She will walk by and she'll suddenly see a spot and then she'll take out her her cleaning rag and and she'll clean it or she will sweep something.
00:03:33
Speaker
And you can tell that she's doing it because she is interested in doing it. And you might not think, well, that's not something I'd want to do. But that's what she is called to do. And I said to her, I said, I love how detail oriented you are and how dedicated you are to the work that you are

Hierarchy and Roles in the Church

00:03:53
Speaker
doing.
00:03:54
Speaker
And she just pushed it aside and said, well, you do what calls to you. And I love that she is doing what she feels she is called to do.
00:04:04
Speaker
It calls to her. So it's not a chore for her to do She enjoys it because it calls to her. And so that is my prayer today is that we do what God calls us to do.
00:04:22
Speaker
Whatever that may be, even if it's cleaning, It might not be your thing, but it's somebody's thing. All right, well, let's head into it.
00:04:33
Speaker
That is not going to be our first chapter. Our first chapter is going to be chapter 11, then our next chapter, chapter 12 in the 1 Corinthians book.
00:04:45
Speaker
Then that will address the parts of the body. The first section we are reading here for chapter 11 talks about that there is a hierarchy.
00:04:57
Speaker
And in this hierarchy, that means that there is there are levels of authority. And Paul is explaining that God made man And then God made woman from man because it was not good for man to be alone.
00:05:15
Speaker
And sometimes in today's day and age, we can get kind of snippy and ah when we hear that the woman is below the man. And Paul is explaining here that woman was made from man and was made for man.
00:05:32
Speaker
and man was is ah So man is over the woman, but likewise, Jesus is head over the man.
00:05:43
Speaker
And of course, head over the woman as well, but head over the man, and God is head over Jesus. So we have God, we have Jesus, we have man, we have woman, and of course, then we have like children who are below us.
00:05:58
Speaker
But it's ah it's like a ranking order that Paul will be talking about today.
00:06:05
Speaker
So one thing ah I'm going to include from our big Bible that is not included in our day-by-day kids Bible, but I thought it was important, ah is that Paul states in 1 Corinthians 11, verse 1, he says, Be imitators of me, just as I also am of Messiah.
00:06:30
Speaker
That's very important. I wanted us to not be without that today. To be imitating Paul just as he imitates Messiah.
00:06:41
Speaker
And Paul says as we continue on, I want you to know something. Jesus is the leader of every man. Man is the leader of woman.
00:06:53
Speaker
And God is the leader of his son, Jesus. A woman should cover her head when she prays, and she should cover her head when she tells what God wants people to know.
00:07:05
Speaker
That's called ah like prophesying. But a man should not cover his head because he shows what God is like. He shows how great God is.
00:07:16
Speaker
But the woman shows how great the man is. And man wasn't

Significance of the Lord's Supper

00:07:21
Speaker
made for woman. Woman was made for man. And covering her head shows that she has a leader.
00:07:31
Speaker
And I wanted to point out that at the Messianic Jewish congregation where I attend, ah during prayer, it is often customary that ah even today, that the woman will wear what is called prayer shawl over her head.
00:07:48
Speaker
And I actually have one too.
00:07:52
Speaker
And that's actually customary through a um many ah religions in the Middle East. They still do that.
00:08:01
Speaker
Let's see. Covering her head shows that she has a leader. Here's how it is in God's kingdom. a woman does not live on her own apart from man. And man does not live on his own apart from woman.
00:08:17
Speaker
The woman came from the man, but man is born from the woman. But everything comes from God. And it's bad for a man to have long hair, but it's good for a woman to have long hair.
00:08:34
Speaker
And long hair is for covering her. There are some things you do that are not good. Paul is changing subjects now very quickly.
00:08:45
Speaker
So ah we're no longer talking about hair covering. There are some things you do that are not good. You meet because you are followers of Jesus, but your meetings hurt more than they help.
00:08:59
Speaker
First of all, I hear that you do not get along with each other. And of course, not everyone agrees. And that shows that some of you are doing what God wants, and some of you are not.
00:09:12
Speaker
You eat together, but it is not the Lord's Supper. Some of you start eating before the others and you do not wait for each other. So one person stays hungry while another person gets drunk.
00:09:28
Speaker
Don't you have homes where you can eat and drink? Jesus ate matzo with his friends one night. Matzo was the unleavened bread. That same night, jewish ah Judas told the Jewish leaders where Jesus was.
00:09:46
Speaker
But Jesus gave thanks. Then he pulled the matzah apart. And he said, when you eat this bread, remember my body. I will give up my body for you. And then after supper, Jesus held a cup of wine.
00:10:05
Speaker
and And then he said, this shows God's new special promise. It's a promise made with my blood. So when you drink this wine, remember my blood.
00:10:20
Speaker
I will give up my blood for you.
00:10:26
Speaker
Now you eat the bread and you drink the wine. And that's one way you tell about why Jesus died. You do it until he comes back. But let's say someone eats the bread, but he does not remember Jesus.
00:10:42
Speaker
Let's say he drinks the wine, but he does not remember Jesus. Then he is sinning. And people should think about what's in their hearts. They should think about it before they eat the bread.
00:10:58
Speaker
And they should think about it before they drink the wine. What if people do not think about Jesus? Well, then they show how wrong they are.
00:11:10
Speaker
That's why lots of you are weak. That's why lots of you are sick. And that is why some of you have even died.

Spiritual Gifts and Unity

00:11:20
Speaker
So what if we think about our hearts? Then no one else will judge us. When Jesus judges us, he shows us how to live.
00:11:32
Speaker
And then we will not get into trouble like the other people in the world. So wait for each other when you get together to eat the Lord's supper. Hungry people should eat at home first, and then you will not get in trouble well when you eat together.
00:11:51
Speaker
Here is 1 Corinthians chapter 12.
00:11:56
Speaker
I want you to know about God's gifts. There was a time when you believed in idols, but when God's spirit is in control, People worship Jesus.
00:12:10
Speaker
They do not say bad things about Jesus. Only people who have God's Spirit says Jesus is Lord. Now there are different kinds of gifts, but they all come from the same Spirit.
00:12:26
Speaker
There are different ways to help, but it is all for the same Lord. There are different kinds of work, But the same God does the work through everyone.
00:12:42
Speaker
A gift from God's Spirit can be seen in each person. It's for everybody's good. God gives some people wise messages through His Spirit.
00:12:55
Speaker
He makes other people know many things. And by the same Spirit, God gives other people faith. God gives some people the gift of making people well.
00:13:10
Speaker
And it comes from the same spirit. He gives other people the power to do wonders. He lets other people tell what he has to say.
00:13:21
Speaker
He lets others know whether a spirit is good or bad. And God lets some people talk in different languages. And he lets others tell what those languages mean.
00:13:35
Speaker
but it's all the Spirit's work. God's Spirit gives these gifts. He chooses which gift to give each person.
00:13:50
Speaker
And your body is all one body, but it is made of many different parts. All the parts together make one body.
00:14:02
Speaker
And it's like that with Jesus. God's spirit puts us all into one group, one body. We may be Jewish or not Jewish.
00:14:15
Speaker
We may be slaves or free. God gave all of us his one spirit. And it's as if we all drink from the same river.
00:14:29
Speaker
So your body is not just one part. It has many parts. Let's say your foot says, oh I'm not a hand, so I don't belong to the body.
00:14:42
Speaker
That would not stop it from being part of the body. Let's say your ear says, I'm not an eye, so I don't belong to this body.
00:14:54
Speaker
That would not stop it from being part of your body. Now, what if your whole body was an eye? How would you hear? What if your whole body were an ear?
00:15:07
Speaker
How would you smell anything? God put all the parts of your body together and he did it just like he wanted. What if they were all one part?
00:15:22
Speaker
Well then where would your body be? So there are many parts, but there is only one body The eye cannot tell the hand, I don't need you.
00:15:37
Speaker
and the head cannot tell the feet, I don't need you.
00:15:42
Speaker
Some parts seem like they are weak, but you cannot do without them. We may think some parts are not as special as others, but we take special care of the parts of our body that we cannot show.
00:16:01
Speaker
And then we have parts we can show, and they don't need to be treated in a special way. God put your body together. There are parts that don't seem so special, but God makes them important.
00:16:19
Speaker
So the parts of the body should work together. If one part hurts, all the parts hurt. And if one part is cared for, all the parts show their joy.
00:16:38
Speaker
Now, Jesus' followers are like the body of Jesus. Each person is a part of this body. And God gives the parts of this body different work.
00:16:55
Speaker
God planned for some people to be apostles. Some are prophets. Some are teachers, some do wonders. Some can make others well, and some can help others.
00:17:10
Speaker
Some can be in charge of the work, and some talk in different languages. Not everyone is an apostle. Not everybody is a prophet.
00:17:23
Speaker
Not everyone is a teacher. And not everyone does wonders. Not everyone can make people well, and not everyone speaks in different languages.
00:17:36
Speaker
Not everyone tells what the languages mean. But I hope that you want the greatest gifts, so I will show you the best way.
00:17:48
Speaker
And we will read about that tomorrow, because that is the end of our reading to- today.
00:17:56
Speaker
Do you love that? I love the unity. If you've been with this event for very long, you've heard me speak several times about unity in God's spirit.
00:18:10
Speaker
And this is another way to think about our unity. We are all many parts of the same body. I highlighted portion in our big Bible.
00:18:22
Speaker
Let's see what verse I really liked.
00:18:34
Speaker
I guess so our our Bible actually said it too.
00:18:39
Speaker
If one part of the body suffers, all of the parts suffer together. And if one part is honored, all the parts rejoice together.
00:18:53
Speaker
I love that Paul talks about this, that we are all one in the spirit and in the body.
00:19:05
Speaker
Everyone gets to do a part of the work and it's all important. We can't do it without everybody working together.

Celebrating Unique Gifts and Contributions

00:19:17
Speaker
That is definitely one of my very favorite things to to read about. I love that. See, there are different ways to help, but it's all for the same Lord.
00:19:31
Speaker
There are different kinds of work, but the same God does the work through everyone. God is working through everyone and not one gift is more important than the other.
00:19:45
Speaker
We are all different parts. It may seem like some parts are more important or it may seem like other parts are not very important, but every part is necessary and important to the entire functioning of the body.
00:20:04
Speaker
Do you love that? It says the spirit, God's spirit puts us all into one group and one body. And it's if it's as if we all drink from the same river.
00:20:20
Speaker
And that's because we have those streams of living water flowing through us. So we are drinking from the same river.
00:20:30
Speaker
So I love that. Everything about today's reading with dealing with the parts of the body. i just, I can't even pick something out specifically.
00:20:41
Speaker
I was trying to but all of it is so good. i just love the unity that it brings. And I hope that you feel unified in the body and encouraged to do your part and to be appreciative of the other parts of the body as well.
00:21:00
Speaker
So thank you for joining me today. i don't have anything to add to that. Paul was so awesome with it. And we just, I don't have anything more I could possibly say to that.
00:21:12
Speaker
We are all one
00:21:16
Speaker
there isn't There's not much more to say about that, is there?
00:21:22
Speaker
It says, let's see, I hope say so Paul is going to show us the best way tomorrow. So I'll leave you in suspense for that as well. So I hope that you will join me for tomorrow's reading as we continue and pick up in chapter 14 of Corinthians tomorrow.
00:21:42
Speaker
And I hope that you are hungry for more of God's word so that you will be back to hear the rest of that tomorrow. And I hope that you will click our light button. Let's spread the word about reading God's words so that we can promote unity in God's body.
00:21:59
Speaker
and know that so that other people will also know that they are part of God's spirit and God's body, that we are, that they are special, that they have something that they contribute. Everybody has something they contribute, no matter how young or how old, no matter what it is, God has something for you to contribute.
00:22:21
Speaker
And it's not the same as what I am doing. eyes You have your own gifts. I love that God gives the gifts to each one as he sees fit. I just love that.
00:22:34
Speaker
So thank you for being with me today for our November 2nd daily reading through the Day by Day Kids Bible. I hope that you are encouraged and feel like God has lit your light so that you are encouraged to click that thumbs up button or that heart button or that follow or subscribe or even that share button.
00:22:53
Speaker
We are helping to spread the word about reading God's word. And we can't do it without you. You're part of the body.
00:23:01
Speaker
Well, hope you have a fantastic rest of your day, whatever day you get around to listening or watching to today's reading. And I hope that you'll join me again for tomorrow as we hear about the best way.
00:23:12
Speaker
Until then, have a fantastic rest of your day.
