Today's reading will continue reading the letter Paul wrote to the Romans. We will cover Chapter 2:1-11, 25-29, Chapter 3:1-2, 9-31, and Chapter 4:1-8, 13, 17, and 19-25.

Today we will read about how faith in God is what makes us right with God, not attempting to follow the Law, because no one is perfect. No one can follow the law completely. We will read about how Abraham was made right with God because he believed God's promises to him and trusted God to fulfill His Word.

In our discussion for daily application we will talk about how trustworthy God is and how we h have seen God's faithfulness throughout the year as we have been reading the Bible. With the same faithfulness that God has always had in other people's lives, we can trust Him to be faithful in OUR lives, no matter how "bad" situations look. Nothing is impossible for God. Nothing is too hard for Him. It is impossible to please God without faith in Him. Trusting in God is one of THE VERY MOST IMPORTANT THINGS WE CAN DO.

Faith Over Law in Romans

00:02:33
Speaker
Well, today we are going to be reading in the book of Romans, which is a letter that Paul wrote to the Romans while he was in Greece. And we are going to be reading chapters 2, 3, and 4.
00:02:44
Speaker
three and for Paul is an excellent writer, and he gives so much information. He is a great teacher, and there will be a lot of great information in today's reading.
00:03:00
Speaker
But I want us to focus on the the topic of faith. We are going to be talking about our daily application today as faith.
00:03:12
Speaker
Faith means trust. And so Paul is going to be in talking to both, remember, the Gentile and Jewish believers who are ah living in Rome at this time, which it takes place at around these the winter time of B.C.
00:03:32
Speaker
bc And he is going to be explaining ah that it is Jesus saving us, not following ah all of God's laws, because nobody is able to follow all of God's laws.
00:03:49
Speaker
So we are saved through faith, not by works. And so we are going to be looking at that as our whole big picture. So while there is a lot of great information in Paul's reading today, we want to view it through the lens of looking at faith in God.
00:04:12
Speaker
So with that, we are going to begin in chapter two today of Romans. I want to give us a little bit of a reminder. We are continuing along the thought of ah where Paul was speaking yesterday about ah discipline and correction for people, ah believers specifically, who are needing to be called out ah for sinful behavior.
00:04:41
Speaker
And then Paul is talking about how give that correction, which we spent a good deal of time discussing yesterday. So Paul is continuing to talk about those of us giving correction.
00:04:57
Speaker
You have no reason to blame others for what they do.

Judgment & God's Fairness

00:05:01
Speaker
This is referring to judgment, which we talked about yesterday when we judge others. When you blame others or when you judge others, you judge or blame yourself because you do the same kinds of things that they do.
00:05:19
Speaker
When God blames people for doing wrong, he is right. But you are only a person. So when you blame others, watch out because you do the same things.
00:05:34
Speaker
Jesus talked about this too. He told us that to be careful because he says, you need to take the plank out of your own eye before you can say to your brother, let me help you take the speck out of your eye.
00:05:53
Speaker
And he tells us to be careful when we are judging because otherwise we will be judged ourselves.
00:06:01
Speaker
Now God will judge what is right and what's wrong. And then do you think that you will get away with what you have done? Do you treat God's wonderful kind love like it is nothing?
00:06:17
Speaker
God waits for you. Do you think that is nothing? God waits so that you will follow him and stop doing wrong.
00:06:31
Speaker
So what if you say, i won't follow. I won't change. Well, then you were just asking God to be angry with you. Because someday God will say who has done right or wrong.
00:06:47
Speaker
And God will give each person what he should get. So what if we keep doing good? What if we show how great God is?
00:06:58
Speaker
well, then he will give us life that lasts forever. But what if we think only about what we want? What if we follow sin?
00:07:12
Speaker
Well, then God will be angry. And there are problems for people who sin. But greatness and peace come to people who do good.
00:07:24
Speaker
Now this is for Jewish people and for people who are not Jewish because God does not have favorites. Being Jewish is great, but that's true only if you obey God's laws.
00:07:39
Speaker
And if you don't, you might as well not be Jewish. Let's say people obey God's laws, but they are not Jewish. Well then to God, they are his people.
00:07:52
Speaker
They make you look bad. And you are Jewish. And you know God's laws. But you do not obey them. People are not Jewish simply because they look Jewish.
00:08:05
Speaker
A real Jew has the heart of a Jew. This means that he loves God in his heart. This comes from God's spirit.
00:08:18
Speaker
It does not come from words written down in laws. This person wants God to cheer for him. He does not look for praise from people.
00:08:31
Speaker
So what makes it special to be Jewish? Well, many things do. But the most important thing is that God gave Jews his words.
00:08:42
Speaker
So what should we say? Are we Jews better than other people? no Jewish people sin and people who are not Jewish sin.
00:08:54
Speaker
The Psalms and Isaiah put it this way. Nobody does what is right. Nobody. And nobody understands.
00:09:06
Speaker
Nobody looks for God. And nobody does good things. Nobody. They open their mouths to lie. Their lips are like snake bites.
00:09:20
Speaker
They say bad words. They are angry and they hurt others. They leave sadness wherever they go. And they do not know how to have peace.
00:09:34
Speaker
They don't think God is important at all.
00:09:38
Speaker
And here

Salvation Through Faith

00:09:39
Speaker
I'm going to insert what is from our big Bible. Now we know that whatever the Torah says, which is the law, it says to those within the Torah, so that every mouth may be shut and the whole world may become accountable to God.
00:09:59
Speaker
For no human on the basis of Torah observance will be set right in his sight. For through the Torah comes awareness of sin.
00:10:12
Speaker
This is very important because if we are not aware of sin, then we are not aware that we are doing something wrong.
00:10:22
Speaker
But now, now God is showing us how to be right with him. It has nothing to do with the law. It's being right with God by believing in Jesus.
00:10:39
Speaker
Everyone sins. No one is good enough for God's greatness. But everyone is made clean from sin by God's kind love.
00:10:53
Speaker
And this is free. It's just as if we had never sinned. And it's all because God gave Jesus as a gift.
00:11:05
Speaker
Jesus paid for our sins by dying for us. And God showed how fair he is. Somebody has to get in trouble for what people have done wrong.
00:11:19
Speaker
So God sent Jesus to die on the cross. He died for our sins. And that pays for our sin. It also makes us clean from our sin.
00:11:34
Speaker
If we believe in Jesus, then it is just like we had never sinned. So how can we brag? We cannot.
00:11:47
Speaker
Did we obey all the rules? No. We believed. And people are cleaned from sin by believing in Jesus.
00:12:00
Speaker
It has nothing to do with obeying God's laws. Is God only the God of the Jews? Isn't he also the God of people who are not Jewish?
00:12:13
Speaker
Yes! There is only one God and he makes all people right with him when they trust in him. And does that mean, however, that God's laws are not important?
00:12:30
Speaker
no so We obey his laws. So then, what about Abraham? Was he made right with God by the good work he did?
00:12:44
Speaker
If he was, then he would have had something to brag about. And that's because when you work, you get paid. And your pay is not a gift.
00:12:56
Speaker
You are supposed to get paid. hu but when However, it is written that Abraham believed God. And that is what it made everything right between Abraham and God.
00:13:14
Speaker
So trust God. And then you will be right with him because you believe.
00:13:23
Speaker
This is what David says. People are happy when their sins are forgiven. Their sins are erased. People are happy when God throws away the list of their sins.
00:13:39
Speaker
God does not hold their sins against them.
00:13:45
Speaker
God gave Abraham promise. And God promised that his family would become a big nation. And then good things would come to the world.
00:13:58
Speaker
Now this promise did not come by God's rules. It came because Abraham believed God. Now Abraham knew he was too old to have children. And he knew that his wife Sarah was old too.
00:14:16
Speaker
But he believed God's promise anyways. And Abraham's faith was strong. He believed God had the power to do what he promised.
00:14:31
Speaker
And that is why Abraham was right with God. And that is why God said that Abraham was right with him. And all of this happened not just for Abraham.
00:14:46
Speaker
It happened for us too. And we can learn from Abraham. We can believe in God also. so When we do what God says, when we do, gods when we believe in God, when we do that, God says we are right with him.
00:15:08
Speaker
Now God gave the promise to Abraham. He said, I made you a father of many nations. So to God,
00:15:19
Speaker
Abraham is the father of all of us. And Jesus died for our sins. And God made him alive again.
00:15:31
Speaker
so now we can live just as if we had never sinned. And that is the end of our reading today.
00:15:44
Speaker
Isn't that wonderful? God is so gracious. He forgives us from our sins. There was nothing wrong with the law and as far as that was what God used in order to make us aware of sin.
00:16:05
Speaker
He told told us what was right and what was wrong. But nobody could be perfect in obeying the law. So there was consequence.
00:16:17
Speaker
And Jesus paid for that consequence. He took the consequence for our imperfection on himself. And so when we believe that he did this, then we are saved by believing.
00:16:35
Speaker
And our big application today, we already know that Jesus saved us from our sins. We believe this. However, what we can struggle with is sometimes the adversary, Satan, wants to tell us that we have committed sins that are not able to be forgiven or that God is holding a grudge.
00:17:01
Speaker
And that is not so. Our sins are completely forgiven. Paul reminds us today that it's as if we had never sinned. Jesus told us that there is nothing that can separate us from his love.
00:17:19
Speaker
Nothing.
00:17:22
Speaker
So let's talk about faith in God. Is there anyone who is more trustworthy than God? Nope.
00:17:35
Speaker
However, if God is so trustworthy and so faithful, why do we have such a difficult time always believing that he is going to do the things he says he's going to do?
00:17:51
Speaker
What do I mean by that? Well, we have to act like we believe. If we're going to say that we believe, it's more than just talking about it with our mouths.
00:18:03
Speaker
We have to act like it. And it's hard to act like it sometimes because it's like we're worried ah the about things. And Jesus tells us not to be worried about things.
00:18:17
Speaker
So Jesus has taught us that if we seek God's kingdom first, that God will take care of us. But yet we do have difficulties.
00:18:29
Speaker
And so but it can be stressful for us and we can lose faith. We can worry that God is not going to come through for us or that when he does, it's not what we are looking for.
00:18:44
Speaker
But we need to remember and have faith that God is working everything to good, whether we can see it or not.

Trusting God's Promises

00:18:54
Speaker
And so we have a tendency to not be living in that faith.
00:19:01
Speaker
We want to make sure, as hard as it is, that we are trusting in God. God is to so trustworthy. To be having faith means to have trust.
00:19:15
Speaker
When we say God is faithful, we are saying that he is trustworthy. Now, I think we can all know what it feels like when we are speaking the truth about something and we tell someone that they need to just trust us and we know that we are correct and yet someone doesn't believe us.
00:19:41
Speaker
It hurts our feelings, doesn't it? When someone accuses you of lying and you know that you are telling the truth, They don't trust you.
00:19:53
Speaker
they and They don't think that you are being trustworthy. How does it make God feel? He who never lies. God never lies. He never breaks a promise.
00:20:07
Speaker
Everything that God has ever said that he would do, he has done. We have seen throughout this year that God is so faithful to always work good into every single circumstance, no matter what it is.
00:20:26
Speaker
God works good into it. And one of my favorite examples to use for that is when we talk about Naomi and Ruth, where Naomi had lost her husband and both of her sons.
00:20:41
Speaker
And yet she still had Ruth, who was her daughter-in-law, who she told Ruth to stay and go back to her parents and that maybe she could remarry.
00:20:53
Speaker
And Ruth said, no, she loved Naomi and she had to stay with Naomi. So Ruth, however, or Naomi rather,
00:21:05
Speaker
was very sad when she was returning to Israel. She said, when I left, i was full, but now as I am returning, I am empty.
00:21:16
Speaker
So she was very sad because she couldn't see any good as to how it could possibly be good that she had lost all of her family, her husband, both of her sons.
00:21:30
Speaker
And she did have Ruth. But Ruth didn't have to be there, but she chose to be there. And God would eventually send Boaz to redeem Naomi's field and then marry Ruth.
00:21:47
Speaker
And then together they would become ancestors of Jesus. God was working good into everything. I love that story. I've said it so many times this year, but if you are newer, you may not have heard it.
00:22:04
Speaker
So if God can work good into the death of everyone in Naomi's family, how much more can God work good into whatever terrible, supposedly terrible circumstance we have going on?
00:22:22
Speaker
And it is so hard to think that God could possibly work good into some of the terrible things that we may go through. But we can trust that God will do that.
00:22:34
Speaker
So I know that today's reading is specifically about faith in God for believing that Jesus died for our sins. But you know what? Abraham believed in God and it was credited to him as righteousness.
00:22:50
Speaker
Not just that eventually his ah promise would be fulfilled in that he would be a father to many nations, to many people.
00:23:02
Speaker
He'll be the father of nations. But also remember that he trusted God when God told him to take his son, Isaac, and sacrifice him.
00:23:16
Speaker
His only son.
00:23:19
Speaker
yeah He was going to obey.
00:23:23
Speaker
And so God saved Isaac. He told to Abraham not to go through with it, but he saw that Abraham was willing to do whatever God had told him to do because he had faith.
00:23:38
Speaker
So we need to have that kind of faith to know that nothing is too hard for God. Abraham believed that ah God would be able to bring Isaac back if he wanted to.
00:23:53
Speaker
He just knew that he had been promised that through him, he would be the father of many nations. And he is. He also was promised that he would be given, his descendants would be given all of this land that God was taking him through.
00:24:10
Speaker
And Abraham never saw that actually happen. But he believed that God would make it happen eventually in his time. So while we may not be able to see the good that God is going to do, it is so important that we have faith in God because we have seen all of these examples throughout the Bible this year.
00:24:33
Speaker
that God has always kept every promise. He is always, always faithful. And so we too need to have faith in God because we have learned this year that without faith, it is impossible to please God.
00:24:50
Speaker
God is so trustworthy. He wants us to put our trust in him. put our trust in him for everything. He knows what we need before we ask him.
00:25:01
Speaker
He created us to need food. Jesus told us that look at the flowers who are here one day and gone the next.
00:25:12
Speaker
But God clothes them so beautifully that how much more will he clothe us, his offspring, his children, we who are made in his likeness.
00:25:24
Speaker
God did not create us so that he he could ignore us. He wants fellowship with us. He wants us to know him. He wants us to come to him.
00:25:36
Speaker
He wants us to look to him. And there is no reason why we cannot trust him. One of the reasons I was thinking about today is why we may have a difficult time trusting God is something that we call projection.
00:25:54
Speaker
We are not trustworthy. We can be trustworthy for the most part. and we And we know that we are we can be honest, those of us who are honest.
00:26:07
Speaker
But we are not perfect. And just as how an unfaithful spouse will have a tendency to be jealous of or and unrighteous,
00:26:20
Speaker
very quick to accuse a faithful spouse that what are they doing? are they Are they being unfaithful? why Who are they talking to? What are they texting about?
00:26:31
Speaker
What are they doing when they're not there? And that's because they have that fear that their spouse will be unfaithful because they know that they themselves have been unfaithful.
00:26:44
Speaker
It's very common. And that behavior is called projection. When we are ah lying about something, we can think that other people are liars, that they may be lying to us.
00:27:01
Speaker
And that's because we have a guilty conscience about something. So we need to be aware, just as Paul told us today, that the that the Torah, the law, made us aware of sin so that we would know what is right and what is wrong.

Human Flaws & Trust in God

00:27:19
Speaker
If we are aware of our own shortcomings, then we can be more conscientious and more able to not project our shortcomings to our God.
00:27:35
Speaker
who has never, never fallen short of anything. So if we are aware of that, it can help us to maintain our trust in him.
00:27:47
Speaker
We need to remember that God has always kept every promise. He has always worked good into everything. And he has saved us from our sins.
00:27:59
Speaker
So we can trust him. That's exactly what he said he was going to do. So we can trust him in every situation, as hard as it may be in the moment.
00:28:11
Speaker
That is our goal, is to trust God all the time, that no matter what we are going through, he is taking care of it. Even if we don't think that he has answered our prayer the way we would like him to answer it, it is his will that is being done, not our own.
00:28:32
Speaker
So I hope that you find that encouraging and motivating. And I hope that you feel that God has lit your light today as we have been motivated and encouraged to trust God and always have faith in him.
00:28:47
Speaker
So thank you for joining me today for our November 10th daily reading through the Day by Day Kids Bible. I would like to encourage you also to click that light button, that one that looks like a thumbs up. It looks like a heart.
00:29:02
Speaker
It looks like a share, a subscribe, a follow. And let's help spread the word about reading God's word. That's what those light buttons do. No one keeps a light under a bushel.
00:29:15
Speaker
We want to show that light everywhere. And so that helps us to do that. And I'm sure that at least some of you are here because this popped up on your feed or somebody shared it with you.
00:29:26
Speaker
Because i know I don't know all of you.
00:29:31
Speaker
So it helps because you're here. You're that testimony. You're that witness to show that it helps. So kindly, let's share it forward by clicking those light buttons.
00:29:43
Speaker
Thank you so much for helping me spread the word about reading God's word this year. This is we are in the beginning part of November here, and we are almost done with the entire Bible.
00:29:56
Speaker
I am so excited for this journey that we are on. I can't believe we are getting so close to coming to the end of it. If you are ah interested in starting this journey from the very beginning on January 1st, then ah you are encouraged to do that because like I mentioned at the beginning of this and recording today, that this event is available wherever you may find it convenient to listen or watch.
00:30:25
Speaker
And all of those ah throughout the year, those daily readings are there. I'm not going to be taking them down in 2026 or any other year. They will be up there.
00:30:35
Speaker
So you can continue to share. You can continue to click that light button and you can continue to help me spread the word about reading God's word. Not just in 2025, but in whatever year you are getting around and that God has brought this reading to you.
00:30:52
Speaker
Well, I

Conclusion & Invitation

00:30:53
Speaker
