00:00:15
Speaker
What's up, guys? Howdy, everybody. It's Nick here, bringing you a special bonus episode. Just Solo Gonna be a laid-back one today.
00:00:28
Speaker
Hopefully it's not unbearably boring, but I guess we'll see.

Letterboxd Year in Review

00:00:34
Speaker
thought it might be fun to just go over my Letterboxd year in review.
00:00:40
Speaker
Just talk about everything I was looking at. I pulled it open and said maybe I'll go on mic and go over it all. I don't know. this let's Let's see how it goes. You guys are going to be along with the ride.
00:00:53
Speaker
it's It's a new experience for all of us. But, uh... I'm going to do everything except for go over my top 10 of 2025.

Reflections on 2025 and Hopes for 2026

00:01:02
Speaker
that ah I'll save that for when I record with Doug. I want to say me, Doug, and Tony are all going to be doing an episode together. But yeah, let's just not waste any time get this started. i hope you guys had a great 2025. If it was a rough year, I'm sorry.
00:01:20
Speaker
i you know i had my ups and downs as well. I know it's not easy, but... Yeah, let's have a great 2026.

Letterboxd Stats and Community Engagement

00:01:28
Speaker
Let's go into the strong. There's some good movies coming out.
00:01:32
Speaker
I just realized The Plague. I don't know if you guys have seen the trailer for that one, but that comes out January 1st. So I'm going to be seeing that this weekend, actually. That should be a pretty fun one.
00:01:44
Speaker
But without further ado, 2025, Nicholas Year to Date. So I have 373 diary entries, 216 reviews, 49

Star Rating System Debate

00:01:59
Speaker
lists. 49 lists seems extreme. I don't know what I was making lists about. I think some of them might be private lists that I just need to delete that didn't really go anywhere. I don't know.
00:02:11
Speaker
Maybe i decided to, every time I watch a movie from a certain year, log it in a list, and maybe i just... started logging a bunch of new years who knows but regardless 49 less that's ridiculous but also you guys can go follow me on letterbox too at nicholas ewers that'll be fun i'll follow you guys back um Especially if you just comment on one of my reviews, say, hey, I'm from These Guys Got Juice, I listen.
00:02:43
Speaker
I will follow you back ah for sure, definitely. But okay, 49 lists, 644 likes. i think that means i liked movies.
00:02:56
Speaker
So I was thinking maybe going into 2026, eliminating the star rating and just doing like or not like.

Movie-Watching Patterns

00:03:05
Speaker
I feel like the star rating. I feel weird sometimes giving a movie a star rating. I usually sit in a weird place with movies sometimes.
00:03:13
Speaker
Sometimes I appreciate certain things a lot more than others. Avatar Fire and Ash is a good example. Watching that movie, it was... basically like a five-star experience. I loved almost every second of it, but there are things in that movie that I do find pretty insufferable.
00:03:31
Speaker
I know insufferable is a strong word, but... And, like, the story doesn't fully work for me, but the experience of watching it is worth five stars, and I would go and see it in a theater in a heartbeat and sit down for all three hours, 15 minutes again.
00:03:48
Speaker
But the moment these things leave theaters, I don't really engage with them. So it feels weird. I feel comfortable rating Avatar, Fire, and Ash high, but I also don't know if it fully represents my opinion. It's a very weird place, and I know I'm probably overthinking it, but 644 likes.
00:04:08
Speaker
I'm also going to try not to make this long episode. I won't go on tangents every two seconds. 28 comments, and I watched 696.4 hours of movies.

Diary Milestones and Rewatch Habits

00:04:21
Speaker
I've seen people who have watched a crazy amount of movies. It gets pretty crazy. Wednesday was the day I watched most of my movies. I watched 59 films on Wednesdays.
00:04:32
Speaker
on wednesdays That was probably due Morbid Curiosities. We were recording on Wednesdays and or Thursdays throughout a lot of the year, so I would end up watching movies before we recorded or the day before we recorded.
00:04:49
Speaker
Go check out Morbid Curiosities too, guys. it's my horror podcast. We've got almost a full year of episodes. I'm going to get into some morbid talk as we go through this year and review, but Yeah, go check that out. um Wednesdays, Fridays, those were my main days seeing movies. Mondays, too. I guess I watched a lot on Mondays.
00:05:11
Speaker
The first film I watched this year was January 1st. It was a Nora. That was a rewatch. The last film I watched, it was today. it was actually The Tragedy of Macbeth. That was another rewatch.
00:05:23
Speaker
Diary Milestones. ah You'll get the idea as I go through. So the 50th movie that I watched this year was Lord of the Rings, The Two Towers. I never got around to re-watching Return of the King. i still got to do that. I got the extended versions on ah the extended editions on 4K as a gift earlier this year.
00:05:46
Speaker
It was pretty awesome. One of the coolest gifts that I've gotten when it comes to movies. It was just great that I don't have to buy that now. So I'll probably watch Return of the King in 4K.
00:05:58
Speaker
But so, The Two Towers was the 50th movie I watched this year. The 100th movie I watched was Mission Impossible Fallout. The 150th movie was Bodies, Bodies, Bodies.
00:06:10
Speaker
The 200th movie was Fargo. The two hundred and fiftieth movie was Intolerable Cruelty. It's kind of surprising that those movies were so far apart. I spent a lot of the year watching of all of the Coen's movies or re-watching. I only have three or four left, but I'm going to get into some of that talk later.

Impactful Movies and Personal Favorites

00:06:31
Speaker
The 300th movie I watched this year was The Last Jedi, and the three hundred and fiftieth movie that i watched was Most of these, I'd say all great movies except for Intolerable Cruelty. That was only one I really didn't care for.
00:06:45
Speaker
My most watched movies of this year, Presence, Steven Soderbergh's Presence, I watched that four times. Final Destination Bloodlines, I watched that four times. That was with my girlfriend, Rocia, most likely. And that movie kind of became a comfort watch, just one that we would throw on. We did a Final Destination marathon. We covered the Final Destination movies for more curiosities.
00:07:08
Speaker
So, that movie, I've watched it a lot this year, and it's safe to say it's not in my top ten, but it's a pretty fun movie. I watched 28 Years Later three times, I watched Materialist three times, and that's when I saw it in theaters twice.
00:07:24
Speaker
I know a lot of people don't like that movie, Materialist. I really dug that one, though. there's and For better for worse, I see myself, a little bit of myself in each character in that movie, each lead anyway.
00:07:39
Speaker
And ah there's something a bit valuable that I kind of took from that movie. I had a ah bit of a change afterwards, and i The movie's kind of pushed me in a direction a little bit. It's been kind of motivating. after like Having seen that, I've felt motivated.
00:07:59
Speaker
Avengers Endgame, watched that three times. I don't even remember watching that three times. I don't know how, but I did. Gone Girl, I watched three times. No regrets about that.
00:08:10
Speaker
I want to say I probably watched it by myself earlier this year, maybe. So, okay, what happened? that was I knew my girlfriend would love Gone Girl, and i wasn't too pushy about it, but I would occasionally bring it up. Then one day I threw it on and she ended up getting pretty into it and then fell asleep, and I watched the whole thing. Then the next day she was saying, i really want to re-watch Gone Girl. think...
00:08:38
Speaker
i think I was really into it. That made me so happy. i Gone Girl is great. I love David Fincher. Gone Girl is just... It's so fun. and It's an exciting movie to watch. it it It feels pretty fresh every time I watch I don't know why. It's it's so great.
00:08:56
Speaker
But re-watched it the next day. And then it was like a month later, maybe not even a month later, she was saying that she wanted to re-watch Gone Girl. We were picking a movie to watch. And she was like, hey, just...
00:09:09
Speaker
Just throw on Gone Girl. And it was like, oh, you really like that one? Yeah, I'll watch it again if you really like it. So that's sweet. I love that she loves that movie. I love that we've seen it so many times together.
00:09:22
Speaker
i haven't gotten bored of it.

Director Rankings and Podcast Changes

00:09:24
Speaker
It ah could reasonably be in my top 15 movies with The amount of times I've watched a movie that long and have enjoyed it and not hesitated to put it on whenever it's presented itself. So, hell yeah.
00:09:40
Speaker
Gone Girl I've seen three times. The Flash, I saw that. I watched that three times. The movie that came out two years ago at this point, the DC movie that broke, no, Black Adam broke the DC universe, but one of the last DC movies before James Gunn took over.
00:10:00
Speaker
I'm a big defender of that movie. Doug and I did a commentary earlier this year. you can go listen to that. I didn't really go into the commentary wanting to defend the movie. That was my goal, but I ended up the feeling or felt like i felt like I got put in a position to where I had to defend the movie. a little bit. But, you know, it's still a pretty enjoyable commentary. I think that movie's a lot of fun. i have a pretty personal connection to it. And yeah, i think people are a little hard on that movie. It's a good superhero movie, especially, i mean, compared to so many others out there, it's it's not even among the worst, I'd say. But yeah, I'm a big defender of The Flash. And
00:10:46
Speaker
Scream. I saw that three times. So yeah, the movie rules. I don't know what to what else to tell you about that one. Not excited for Scream 7. That trailer looked pretty bad.
00:10:57
Speaker
We'll be covering that for Morbic Curiosities when when that comes out. Also, 28 years later, going be doing that on Morbicuriosities at, well, The Bone Temple.
00:11:08
Speaker
We covered all the 28 movies earlier this year. It was a lot of fun. Love those movies. Loved 28 years later. So, yeah So now I'm on to my featured lists for this part of the year in review. This will be a lot of rankings. I'm going to try and get through them without spending a crazy amount of time.
00:11:30
Speaker
We're not going too long just yet, but, you know, don't want to. I was hoping to maybe not have this go over a half hour, but it seems like it probably will. But my first featured list, they're going in kind of reverse order from when I added them to this whatever, this Letterboxd wrapped thing.
00:11:50
Speaker
But Rian Johnson ranked, so i yeah, I ranked Rian Johnson's movies after seeing Wake Up Dead Man. And so I'll go through those real quick. My number one is Looper. My number two is The Last Jedi. Three is The First Knives Out.
00:12:06
Speaker
Four is Brick. Five is Glass Onion. And six is Wake Up Dead Man. I haven't seen The Brothers Bloom. Wake Up Dead Man, maybe I gotta rewatch it. i just It didn't fully work for me. i won't get too into it, but it's just the mystery of it all didn't really work for me. I found certain parts to be kind of convoluted, but the thing about it is when it all wrapped around, I was so satisfied.

Coen Brothers and Genre Explorations

00:12:32
Speaker
it just i just enjoyed the journey and the mystery behind this one the least. Maybe I wasn't in the best mood when I was watching it, but
00:12:41
Speaker
yeah I didn't even hate it. I didn't even dislike it. It's just my least favorite of Rian Johnson's movies that I've seen. um but It's not a bad movie. Check it out if you haven't seen it.
00:12:54
Speaker
My next list, Wreck Ranked. So, Morbid Curiosities, over to that podcast feed when you're done with this. Check out our episodes on the Wreck movies. We still need to release Wreck 4.
00:13:09
Speaker
Still gotta get that recorded. There's a little bit of a change, a shift going with Morbid going into the new year. Still trying to figure out what's going to go on with that podcast.
00:13:21
Speaker
Me and Mercedes actually will no longer be podcasting together. This is the first time I'm saying it on mic. I will probably be saying it on the Rec. 4 episode for Mercuriosities listeners, just so they can be in the know. But we decided to split.
00:13:39
Speaker
It was a pretty civil split from what ah i was able to gather, but Yeah, I'm actually looking for guests for Morbid Curiosities.
00:13:50
Speaker
Not quite hopping into a season just yet, maybe doing one-off episodes, have guests come on and pick a movie and we can talk about them.
00:14:01
Speaker
Got to be horror, but yeah, Morbid Curiosities. Go check us out, and if you've got good recording equipment and got a horror movie you got to take on or just a favorite movie you want to just be loved for, go go email us. Go over to our page. You can email us actually morbidcuriosities10 gmail.com.
00:14:23
Speaker
That's where you can get a hold of me, and we can maybe set something up. Yeah, Wreck ranked. Here's my ranking of the Wreck movies. Number one is Wreck 2. Sorry, the first Wreck isn't up there, but I loved Wreck 2.
00:14:37
Speaker
The episode we did on it was a little divisive. Mercedes, I think, straight up hated the movie or pretty close to hated the movie. I love REC 2. I think it's special. I love how weird it gets and how many...
00:14:51
Speaker
it it just yeah Listen to my episode on it, so I won't go on and on about REC 2, but REC 2 is awesome. I love it. The first REC is my number two.
00:15:02
Speaker
my number three is REC 3. And my number four is REC 4 Apocalypse. Go check out our episodes on this. On those, I should say. I had a lot of fun.
00:15:12
Speaker
One of the highlights of this year was getting to watch the rec movies for the podcast. It was something I've been wanting to do for a while. But so my next list is is my ranking of the Coen Brothers filmography.
00:15:26
Speaker
I haven't seen every movie yet. I haven't seen Lady Killers, Drive Away Dolls. I haven't finished Hail Caesar. i was actually watching that before I started recording this.
00:15:39
Speaker
So I'm going to throw it on and maybe finish it before I go to bed. And then there was one more. Oh, The Man Who Wasn't There. I've seen that before, but I have no recollection of it. So I would like to rewatch it before trying to put it on this list. But My number one, No Country for Old Men.
00:15:58
Speaker
One of my favorite movies, if not my favorite movie of all time. Number two, Inside Llewyn Davis. A contender for one of my favorite movies now, the movie Rules. My number three, also an incredible movie that I fucking love. All three of these could be a contender for one of my favorite movies Now that I've gone through all of these, but my number three is Miller's crossing.
00:16:20
Speaker
Number four is blood. Simple. Number five is Hudsucker proxy. Number six is Barton Fink. Number seven is, Oh brother, where art thou? Number eight is what is this one?
00:16:31
Speaker
True Grit. Number nine is A Serious Man. Number 10 is Fargo. Number 11 is Buster Scruggs. And at this point, I think these are all still four star movies at the very least.
00:16:44
Speaker
Number 12 is where I start to get into three and a half, three star territory. The only one I truly didn't like is my final one. And we'll talk about a bit. Burn After Reading is my number 12. My number 13 is Raising Arizona.
00:16:59
Speaker
My number 14 is The Big Lebowski. My number 15 is The Tragedy of Macbeth. My number 16 is Honey, Don't. I actually, i had fun with this one.

Franchise Rankings and Personal Insights

00:17:11
Speaker
I'll, like know I mean, the whole ending falls apart and it,
00:17:14
Speaker
is nowhere near as special as anything else the cones have done together it it's just not at the caliber of what they do together but i watched this movie with my girlfriend and we had a lot of fun we laughed throughout the whole thing a lot of the time we spent laughing at certain parts a lot of involving chris chris evans But, honey, don't, still, I just don't even hate it. I can't, I guess I maybe can't hate a movie with the co-insensibilities, but I guess Intolerable Cruelty would say otherwise, because I really didn't care for that movie.
00:17:49
Speaker
Next to last Final Destination covered them over on Morbid Curiosities. My number one, Final Destination Bloodlines. Two, Final Destination Five. Three is Final Destination Three.
00:18:01
Speaker
My number four is Final Destination Two. My number five is Final Destination. My number six is the Final Destination, the fourth one in the series.
00:18:13
Speaker
My next list, another morbid thing that we covered, Scream ranked. So my number one is Scream Four. ah that that's an i just i really had a great time with scream 4 truly like ah i still think about it i've thrown it on a couple times and actually just once since we watch it for the podcast i think it's great the first one is also i think scream 4 and scream are actually tied for number one i can't really say that four is better than one and can't really say that i fully like it more than one because one is still pretty special but yeah ah i just have to ah putting scream four at number one i kind of feel like i have to do almost ah to just make a statement it puts more focus on scream four with it being right there at least it it feels like it does and
00:19:12
Speaker
It gives me an opportunity to talk about it more with it being my number one, it seems. but yeah Scream 4, number one. Scream, number two. Number three Scream 2.
00:19:23
Speaker
My number four is Scream 2022. think that's when that one came out. The fifth Scream movie. My number five is Scream 3. And my number six is Scream 6.
00:19:36
Speaker
It's my least favorite. It's only one I think is bad, actually. My next list is the Jurassic Park and Jurassic World franchise ranked. This, yeah, I don't know. Maybe this is fun. Jurassic Park is number one. My number two is Jurassic Park 3.
00:19:53
Speaker
My number three is Jurassic World Rebirth. I... I'm not going to really go out there defending that. I had fun with that movie, though. The dinosaur stuff did satisfy me, and I watched it after doing a Jurassic World marathon, and I just think it's far and away better than any of the Colin Trevorrow, Colin Trevorrow.
00:20:14
Speaker
Movies? Yeah, Jurassic World Rebirth is number three. Number four is The Lost World Jurassic Park. Number five is Jurassic World. Number six is Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom. And number seven is Jurassic World Dominion.
00:20:29
Speaker
My next list is Mission Impossible ranked. So number one, I got Mission Impossible Fallout. Number two, I got Mission Impossible Rogue Nation. Number three, Mission Impossible, the OG.
00:20:41
Speaker
Number four is Mission Impossible 3. Love that. Love Philip Seymour Hoffman's performance. Rest in peace. Number five is Mission Impossible Ghost Protocol.
00:20:52
Speaker
Number six is Mission Impossible Dead Reckoning. Number seven is Mission Impossible The Final Reckoning. a movie that was pretty disappointing, but still managed to bring me to tears multiple times the second time around when I saw it.
00:21:06
Speaker
I saw it with my mom, and it was hard not to get emotional. My mom and I both have like seen all those movies together. both really loved them. was a special moment getting to take her to see that, and...
00:21:19
Speaker
As disappointed as I am, as much as it wasn't the movie that I wanted it to be, i still love the Mission Impossible movies and don't hate the movie. i've I accept what it is, and I enjoy watching it, actually.
00:21:35
Speaker
And my number eight is the only Mission Impossible movie I don't like, and the only one I don't rewatch it' like ever is Mission Impossible 2. Next list, Terrifier ranked. Another Morbid Curiosities thing.
00:21:49
Speaker
Number one, Terrifier 3. Number two, Terrifier 2. Number three, Terrifier. Number four, All Hallows' Eve. Terrifier 3 rules. Merry Christmas.

Spielberg Films and Genre Reflections

00:22:01
Speaker
Chucky ranked. The first season that Morbid Curiosities did was the Chucky season. it was a lot of fun. I go back and listen to those episodes every now and then.
00:22:13
Speaker
had a lot of fun doing those with Mercedes. It's just great. And i feel like I may have to go back and rearrange this list a little bit, but I'm going to just give it as is.
00:22:24
Speaker
I think this is what my list was on the episode. Number one is The First Child's Play. Number two is The Curse of Chucky. That's great, guys. If you haven't watched these, actually, these are mostly pretty good movies. There's not a lot of bad movies in the Chucky series, unless he's just not your thing. Then it's it's you're not going to vibe with these things at all. But if you can get on board with Chucky and his thing, I think you can have a good time with it.
00:22:51
Speaker
Curse of Chucky has a whole middle section where this thing dips, and I wouldn't say the characters are that great. But if you're a fan of the movies, I feel like it is doing something that's so fun, and it really rewards being a fan and having watched these movies. And i had a ah blast watching Curse of Chucky, so I would highly recommend watching these movies just to get to that one. It's not the last movie.
00:23:17
Speaker
um Cult of Chucky is last movie. It's the second to last one they did. But I think it's it's a great time. And then my number three is Child's Play 2. My number four is one that I feel like should be higher maybe. It's Seed of Chucky.
00:23:32
Speaker
i had a blast watching Seed of Chucky. I thought I was going to hate Go listen to that episode. It's a lot of fun. Our Child's Play 2 episode is also very fun, I think. Enjoy listening that one a lot.
00:23:44
Speaker
I don't think we've talked about the movie that much, actually. It might be kind of a problem, but it's just a very funny episode, I think. The Seed of Chucky, that movie really surprised me.
00:23:55
Speaker
it's It's so... is It's unique. It's got its charm. Number five is Bride of Chucky. And then when we get to six, this is where they really start to fall off for me. Six is Cult of Chucky.
00:24:09
Speaker
Seven is the Child's Play 2019 remake, and eight is Child's Play 3. Last list, guys. we're We're getting through this. Hopefully you didn't skip through these, but if you did, I understand. But it's my ranking of Steven Spielberg. I have, again, a couple movies I haven't seen, like the BFG, Lincoln, and there's a couple other in there. And this list, I was looking at it, it feels so weird and wrong. i feel like i need to do some rearranging. There's a lot that's changed, but there's only maybe two movies that I really don't like out of this whole thing, and it would be the the bottom two. And this is just like ranking your favorite candy. You at the end of the day, it's it's still candy that you're ranking.
00:24:55
Speaker
But my number one is Jurassic Park. Two, I feel like I might change this, having watched this movie earlier this year, but...
00:25:06
Speaker
It's one of my favorite Christmas movies. I don't know if it belongs at number two, but catch me if you can. My number three is Minority Report. My number four is Jaws. I saw Jaws with my girlfriend in theaters earlier this year. It was my second time seeing it in theaters. Got to see it in three d So good. If you get a chance, check out Jaws in 3D.
00:25:27
Speaker
My number five is Schindler's List. Watch it for the first time this year, actually. A big blind spot that I'm glad I checked off the list. It felt very rewarding. The movie isn't what I thought it was fully, but ah incredible, incredible movie.
00:25:42
Speaker
Number six is Bridge of Spies. Seven is Saving Private Ryan. Eight is Duel. Duel of Rules, guys. I talked about it in our first-time watches of 2024 last year. Check that episode out with Zoe.
00:25:55
Speaker
ah It's so great. One of my favorite episodes of a podcast I think I've ever done. but my number nine is war of the worlds 10 empire of the sun another first time watch from this year that was so good that movie surprised me how much i i love that um i i re-watched part of it a couple months afterwards still liked it so great number 11 gotta rearrange and re-watch and rearrange these indiana jones rankings
00:26:27
Speaker
I don't have a love for Indiana Jones like everybody does. i like them. i don't think they're bad movies. i even enjoyed Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. Dial of Destiny is only one that I was kind of like, eh, during.
00:26:40
Speaker
Yeah, don't trust my Indiana Jones rankings. I'm i'm a bad Indiana Jones fan. But my number 11 Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. My number 12 is AI, Artificial Intelligence.
00:26:53
Speaker
My number 13 is the Extraterrestrial. My number 14 is Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark. My number 15 is Munich. 16 is The Terminal.
00:27:07
Speaker
17 is The Adventures of Tintin. 18 is The Post. 19 is Close Encounters of a Third Kind. think maybe the ending is why that one's so low. I'm not too sure, but I still like it. It's really just the last two that I don't like.

Conclusion and Future Engagement

00:27:22
Speaker
My number 20 is The Lost World Jurassic Park. My number 21 is The Last Crusade. 22 is West Side Story. 23 is The Sugar Land Express. 24 is The Fablemans.

Speaker
25 is Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. 26 is The Color Purple. 27 is Hook. And 28 is Ready Player One. Not a great movie.
00:27:48
Speaker
Genres, countries, and languages. I'm not going to go through them too much, I guess. It seems like a lot. But most watched horror, thriller, drama, comedy, action, top five. ah Countries, the most watched countries that the movies came from were the United States was number one, United Kingdom two, France three, Canada four, Japan five.
00:28:10
Speaker
English was the most watched language out of all the movies I watched, then Spanish, Japanese, French, and no language spoken at all.
00:28:21
Speaker
um Things in nano-genres, I'll just kind of go through this briefly. It's all horror-related. It's all because of morbid curiosities. But themes, some pretty common themes.
00:28:31
Speaker
Horror, the undead and monster classics, twisted dark psychological thrillers, Gory, gruesome, and slasher horror. Terrifying, haunted, and supernatural horror.
00:28:44
Speaker
Crude humor and satire. That's the top five right there. ah Hopefully it sounded that way. they're They're very wordy. There's a lot of commas in each sub, in each like theme and nano genre, but here's like five nano genres that's going to come out to actually 15 because of how this is done. but Creepy, brutal death.
00:29:06
Speaker
Horror twist death. Scary violence silly. Eerie bloody horrifying. Horror violence weird. and Cool. um and Breakdown of my year. I have 373 diary were 2025 new releases. And movies.
00:29:24
Speaker
of these movies were twenty twenty five new releases and two hundred and sixty six were older movies 173 were first-time watches, 200 were re-watches, 215 were movies reviewed, 158 were movies didn't review.
00:29:36
Speaker
two hundred and fifteen were movies i reviewed and one hundred and fifty eight were movies i didn't review Four stars. That was the most common right star rating that I had throughout the whole year. I'm kind of just like a four-star slut, I guess, giving out four-star ratings.
00:29:53
Speaker
Yeah, I don't know. I also re-watch a lot of movies that I like. Not that I'm watching the same movie over and over, but if I don't know what to throw on, I'll go to my all-time favorite movies list, and those are four-and-a-half, five-star movies, sometimes four-star movies.
00:30:10
Speaker
I don't know. I also don't. What I worried watching movies that I think aren't for me or I don't think that I like? and I mean, I'm not saying that I'm closed-minded and I'm not going to go out and watch new things, but if I know I don't like the Transformers movies, then I'm not going to force myself to go out and watch a Michael Bay Transformers movie. I should specify Michael Bay because I did like the Travis Knight Bumblebee movie quite a bit.
00:30:41
Speaker
But so, we're going to be wrapping this up soon. My most watched actors. William Dafoe, Tom Cruise, Brad Dourif. I watched nine movies from all of them.
00:30:52
Speaker
Pom Klementoff, Ralph Innocent, Dave Bautista, Josh Brolin, Ving Rhames. Seven movies from all of them. Then Joseph Gordon-Levitt. Six movies from him.
00:31:03
Speaker
Directors. Most watched. Joel and Ethan Coen, 14 movies. Actually, it I tried to do the math. Yeah, I think it would be 14 movies because I only watched one of their respective whatever. They were the most watched directors that I had this year. It's just weird the way Letterboxd divides them because Ethan doesn't have the directing credit for everybody. So he's also on there. But Joel is listed as 14. I think both of them would be 14 if I'm crediting both of them for having directed all of the movies we know them to have directed.
00:31:40
Speaker
But so Steven Spielberg with 11 movies, Rian Johnson and Wes Craven with five movies, James Cameron, David Fincher, Christopher McQuarrie, and Damian Leone with four movies, and Guam Bualaguaro and Paco Plaza with three movies each. Yeah, those are the rec guys. So my most watched filmmakers.
00:32:09
Speaker
And then my most liked review was Predator Badlands. I'm not going to read the review, but you guys can go check it out if you follow me. And my most liked list was my ranking of Steven Spielberg's filmography.
00:32:23
Speaker
And yeah, the highest rated movie that I watched was Schindler's List. The lowest rated was Hurry Up Tomorrow. Most popular was Oppenheimer. The most obscure movie that I watched this year was The Making of Wicked.
00:32:38
Speaker
The newest movie that I watched was Ella McKay. think that's false. want say Avatar came out after that, but okay. And the oldest movie that I watched this year was Frankenstein, the OG Frankenstein.
00:32:51
Speaker
I didn't watch that in preparation filled for Del Toro's. I watched that on my own. The longest thing that I watched this year was Kill Bill, The Whole Bloody Affair. That makes sense. And the shortest was The Dying World, stop-motion animated film that was very beautiful.
00:33:10
Speaker
The movies that I watched this year that I rated higher than average, The Flash, of course, Scream 4, of course, The Last Jedi, it's a tragedy, people are awful, Mission Impossible 3, 28 years later, understandable, and materialist.
00:33:26
Speaker
Again, it's a tragedy, people are awful. These should be more appreciated movies, people. Movies that I rated lower than average. The Long Walk, that's a big one. Did not care for that. i It felt like misery, porn to me. Yeah, I had a lot of thoughts about that movie. They've since left my mind, kind of. I don't really try to think about The Long Walk that much. It's just a movie that I found unpleasant, and it didn't really feel like it had much of a purpose by the end of it.
00:33:58
Speaker
and really walk away with much and usually I can walk away with something from a movie but uh the Mario Brothers movie yeah I watched that I definitely watched that this year rated that one and a half stars Five Nights at Freddy's that movie sucks the second one that movie sucks it's so bad it barely functions as a movie The Final Destination, i rated that half a star. Yeah, that movie sucks, guys. How does that have two stars unletterboxed?
00:34:28
Speaker
That's crazy. That should be way lower. Scream 6, rated that lower than average. That's surprisingly, people thought better of that than i thought they would have. I'm kind of surprised. I think people should give that one a rewatch. It might change.
00:34:44
Speaker
and But I don't know, compared to Scream 7, Scream 6 looks inventive and interesting. I don't know. ah Together, i also rated that pretty low. Yeah, that is a 3.3 on Letterboxd. I thought Together was very underwhelming.
00:35:03
Speaker
everyone kept saying it's so gross so gross and that's a cgi mess it's not even gross it's not gross to look at not interesting to look at i didn't care for it all that much but yeah that appears to be the end of the letterbox list so i'll try not to go out on that that negative of a note um Yeah, thank you guys for listening. Hopefully you enjoyed this. Hopefully you got something out of it. A little over 30, 35 minutes maybe this will be coming in at after a little bit of polishing.
00:35:40
Speaker
Yeah, thanks for listening. Tomorrow, I know this is going to, a little bit of those stats will change. I'm going to be seeing, is this thing on tomorrow? I might be trying to see Song Sung Blue.
00:35:53
Speaker
Song Song Blue, I think that's what it is, the Hugh the hugh Jackman movie. ah There's another one in theaters, but yeah. Is this thing on? I'll definitely be seeing that before the year is over, and if I can, Song Song Blue.
00:36:10
Speaker
Solid year for movies. Very good year for movies. I don't know if... I think last year might have been a bit stronger for me. Last year I was just loving so many things, just walking out of movies being like, five stars, five stars. And this year, I clearly felt like more movies were four stars when I was walking out of them.
00:36:31
Speaker
Last year, I also did a a lot of... watch I watched a lot of 70s movies, a lot of classics, and i was delving into William Friedkin's filmography a little bit, but that's where a lot of my higher ratings from last year came in, too, where those and just put on some great movies.
00:36:50
Speaker
lot of great movies this year, too, though. It was good. It was solid. I'm really satisfied with my top 10, too. This is a very different type of top 10 than I feel like I've really ever had throughout the ah these past couple years.
00:37:05
Speaker
I feel like it's a lot less mainstream movies in there. i don't really know if I have any block busters or big tentpole movies i'll have to look at it again but i'm really satisfied with my top 10 this year it was very difficult to make and we'll be bringing you an episode on that in the near future i'm looking forward to talking about those movies with uh the other guys But yeah, The Plague, first movie coming out.
00:37:34
Speaker
I want to say there's also that Daisy Ridley movie, like We Don't Wake Up the Dead or something. I don't remember what it's called, but Daisy Ridley's in it. That looks like it's getting good reviews. So right off the bat, January isn't just shitty movies right away.
00:37:50
Speaker
I think New Year's Day might be a pretty popular day to go to the movies. I remember I saw Vice with my brother in the beginning of 2019, I think. And the theater was pretty packed for that one. Vice, of all movies.
00:38:04
Speaker
Yeah, I wonder how much money that one made, especially that weekend. I'd be interested in looking that up. especially I think that was a Christmas release. I'm not too sure. That might have been a holdover from the week before.
00:38:17
Speaker
Excited for next year and what it's going to bring. Avengers Doomsday is the big thing people are talking about. These teaser trailers coming out. That's exciting. That's cool for everybody.
00:38:29
Speaker
That's like for the world. That's what Mission Impossible The Final Reckoning coming out was for me this year. And yeah, I'm going to be there for Doomsday opening weekend, most likely. And maybe I'll get hyped for it as time goes on. We got a Spider-Man movie coming up before then, not to just immediately talk about Marvel. There's other shit coming out.
00:38:50
Speaker
Terrifier 4 is coming out. Send Help. Sam Raimi movie is coming out. I'm mostly in the know about horror because of more curiosities, but Yeah, thanks, guys. Thanks for listening. Go follow me on Letterboxd at Nicholas Ewers.
00:39:04
Speaker

00:39:18
Speaker
And a couple that we didn't put that much hard work into. Let's be honest. I'm kidding. No, we had a a year of episodes that I'm i'm very proud of. And it would be really cool if, you know, maybe got some new listeners going into this new year. And again, looking for guests. If anybody is trying to be a guest on a horror podcast, shoot me an email.
00:39:43
