Excitement for Ahsoka Series
00:00:50
Speaker
BTS's birthday is June.
00:00:52
Speaker
June is a solid month all around. There's a lot of good music lyrics that involve the word June. Yep. Hey, June. Beatles. Solid. That's hey, Jude. Hey, Jude. No, you're right. That's hey, Jude. I strike that for the record. Strike that for the record kids. Couple of John Mayer lyrics and Harry Styles lyric. Yeah. Yeah, there you go. June is a good month, kids. And with June comes, we are ever so closer now. So much closer. To Ahsoka, man.
00:01:23
Speaker
Two months now, June, July. Two months away from Ahsoka, kids. So we're getting pumped,
Galacta: A Star Wars Discussion Platform
00:01:29
Speaker
we're getting excited, and that's what we're gonna do these next few episodes. We're gonna have a little bit of fun. We're gonna have some discussions on Ahsoka, her journeys through the different times that we have seen her, Clone Wars, Rebels, her novel, Tales of the Jedi.
00:01:48
Speaker
Mando Boba rebels juicy rebels. Yeah, I said rebels There's there's so much So much that we're going to discuss So we're gonna break this up into a little bit of like a series as we get into Ahsoka for sure But before we do all the fun stuff
00:02:05
Speaker
If this is your first time listening to
Andrea's Galaxy's Edge Adventure
00:02:06
Speaker
us, welcome. We are Star Wars Podcasts that discuss anything and everything within that galaxy far, far away. In each episode, we will dive into one or two topics and have a general discussion on them. Topics could be movies, TV series, books, comics, a specific character, you name it. And we talk about it. All right, Ange, before we get to the Ahsoka stuff.
00:02:25
Speaker
It's been a while, it's been a minute since we recorded a little break. Small break, yeah, we're getting back into the groove here. Let's talk about what we have done during our break. Now you, my friend. I did. Galaxy's Edge. I know. Talk about it, what was your experience? Oh my God. This was so unplanned, so I...
00:02:50
Speaker
Really? I was supposed to go to Galaxy's Edge in November, but I backed out because we were also going to Universal. We were doing a lot of stuff. Work's really busy around that time, and it was super expensive, and I said, no, I'm out. Smart.
00:03:05
Speaker
Yeah, so I won this thing that they do at my work where if you're a high performing employee, either if you work in a store and based off of metrics or if you're just really awesome and people think you're awesome and they can nominate you for the things that you do.
00:03:27
Speaker
And I got nominated,
Experiences at Disney's Galaxy's Edge
00:03:28
Speaker
and I got to go to this event called Achievers, where I was flown down to Florida with a guest, and we had some meetings and vendor shows, and then I got two free days to go to any park I wanted, Disney or Universal. So we did go to, I took my mother, because my mother was also supposed to go in November too, and she backed out because my grandfather was not feeling well.
00:03:57
Speaker
So, and plus my mom does a lot for me. She supports me a lot. And I just thought this was like a really good way to keep her involved and thank her and all that stuff. So we went to Disney the first day. So we've been to Hollywood Studios before, but the last time we were there, they were working on Galaxy's Edge. So I know about Star Tours and stuff like that, but I've never been to Galaxy's Edge.
00:04:27
Speaker
very stressed, right? But kind of- It can be though, right? But kind of chill because I didn't pay for this and this was kind of like a bonus. So I was a little chill about it, but the night before I started getting a little panicked and my sister called me and she was like, you got to do this, you got to do this, you got to do this, right? If she could be a Disney mom, she would be.
00:04:51
Speaker
So I do all the stuff. I ended up making a reservation for us to do a droid. And I was like, OK, it's 7 AM. I got to get up and I got to start doing the things to get into the fast lanes or whatever. Yeah.
00:05:10
Speaker
So I ended up getting really lucky on a lot of things. I figured out how to get into Ogus Cantina. Nice. Nice. I got a reservation for that in the evening. I got us a pretty good reservation for Rise of the Resistance, Smuggler's Run. And so we didn't have to rush. We walked in and we went to Star Tours because it was a five-minute wait. Oh, so fun.
00:05:36
Speaker
Such a good warm up. How many did you do? Once, twice, or did you guys go a bunch of times? I did Star Tours once. We did Smuggler's Run twice, man. Smuggler's Run is so good. I love it. I was an engineer both times, so I was a little depressed.
00:05:55
Speaker
Me and my mom wanted to be pilots, so that's why we went on it twice, but it was funny. The guys that we went on thought they were going to be all awesome at it, and they sucked, and we crashed, and everyone's yelling. It was so funny. It was cool.
00:06:12
Speaker
That's awesome. I love that. I figured out where Mando comes out, so I got to meet him. Nice. We obviously went and met Chewbacca, and they had Darth Vader instead of Kylo Ren there, so I showed Darth Vader my Darth Vader tattoo. Was he impressed, most impressed? He told me it was irrelevant, and I was like... Freakin' Anakin'. I was like, man, I like you. Don't be like that.
00:06:40
Speaker
Damn Anakin, drama, drama Anakin, drama Anakin. I had my Ahsoka ears on while I went to go meet him. So he
Galaxy's Edge: Food & Atmosphere
00:06:47
Speaker
really didn't care too much. He said he just didn't like that he could tell I was involved in rebel activity. Wow, sus, Anakin, sus on everybody. I know. But everybody, I had my Ahsoka ears on and everybody like loved them. Everybody kept coming up to me. I love your ears, I love your ears. And so to feel the Ahsoka love while I was there was really awesome.
00:07:10
Speaker
Yeah, that that thought yeah, I mean that proves as we transition into Ahsoka Because I was real quick. I didn't have any big Avengers kids. I was what did you do here? I just work you just worked. I just work. I said what is our vacation you go in September, right? Yeah, so the big one for me is September for the big 4-0 4-0 So we will be doing galaxy's edge. I'll be doing galaxy's edge two days
00:07:37
Speaker
the family will be doing it one day with me and then they want to do other stuff, which is fine, but I will stay on Batu for two days. Yeah. And just have fun. Cause now I did the rise of resistance when we went to celebration at Anaheim. So I love that ride. Now that was your first experience real quick. Yeah.
00:07:57
Speaker
How did you feel? Oh man, it was so cool. I love how interactive it is. My mom was like, is the floor going to fall out? I'm like, we're standing, Deb. They're not going to do that to us. Okay. Deb, that being said, I love it.
00:08:16
Speaker
Dude, Deb got really brave. I took her on the Slinky Dog ride, and then when we went to Universal in the next stage, she went on a couple more rides. It was awesome. Nice. Nice. Really cool. But rides are just so, I mean, talk about that experience a little bit, like the interactiveness. Pretty wild, isn't it? The interactiveness, the actors.
00:08:36
Speaker
you know, the characters and I mean, you're like walking and moving and then all of a sudden you're in a, you know, like a Star Destroyer. Like it's crazy. Isn't it wild? It's wild. It's so cool the way it's set up. You see all the stormtroopers at first order. Oh, it's so good.
00:08:56
Speaker
Overall, I mean, worth it for sure. Oh, yeah. Would you absolutely recommend for any Star Wars fan? Any Star Wars fan. I loved being there. It was just like a really cool vibe. I loved how everybody like was in character. And like, when you walked into the shops, they were like, bright suns. I was like, Oh, yeah, that's right, man. Bright suns. Like, um,
00:09:17
Speaker
I like the food. We ate there twice, and it was really, really good. We got ronto wraps the first time. Oh, I was going to say, ronto wraps? What do you think? Ronto wraps. And then in the evening, we got these ribs. I can't remember what they were called, but they were really good. And Oga's Cantina was all right, but that's just like,
Ahsoka's Rise in Popularity
00:09:37
Speaker
It's just, you don't eat there, right? They have like these very small appetizers that are very Star Wars-y looking. But it's mainly for drinks and I don't drink, but they have like mocktails. So that's really cool. And it was definitely a cool experience, but my mom was expecting to walk in there and it was going to be like most Isley's cantina. She was expecting to see like a stage and like a band.
00:10:06
Speaker
Not, you know, that it was, I was, I was trying to explain it. I was like, mom, we're on bed too. We're not on Tatooine. I need you to understand that. And she was like, I don't know. And I was like, this is not Tatooine, Deb. Okay. Get your systems right. Come on now. What are you? No, that's cool. Yeah. I remember Ronto raps. I remember having one.
00:10:31
Speaker
I want them all the time now. They are so good, right? Yes. And apparently they have breakfast ones where it's like eggs in the sausage or something. We were like right in that in-between time where you could get breakfast ones or regular ones. And I'm glad we got the regular ones because I saw the breakfast ones and they just looked basic. Egg, sausage, cheese, wrap.
00:10:56
Speaker
Right, right, right, right. So yeah, that was probably my big takeaway when I went was the ronto wraps were so good. They were worth the wait because everybody hyped them up. I mean, you see people talk about it and you finally have one. You're like, oh, okay, I get it. Like, yeah, it's good. It was really good. Yeah, really good.
00:11:15
Speaker
Bro, no, I mean, as you brought up earlier, you wore your Ahsoka ears and you felt the love. And Ahsoka is now that character, right? Like in the Star Wars fandom, Ahsoka is someone that now is as popular, maybe at times even more popular than a lot of our legendary characters. You could argue. I'm not saying that's 100% certain, but a lot of fans have grown up with her.
00:11:44
Speaker
And there's that swing that people just don't know who she is. It's so odd. It's fascinating, right? Because she is, if you do, like we are huge fans, if you watch everything and you consume it all, you are very aware of who she is and what she represents and who she, Bean, Anakin's, Padawan. It's a huge thing. And like you're saying, not a lot of people know that.
00:12:11
Speaker
So like her exposure has been, I think, really fascinating. And I think her introduction to fans have been fascinating. I mean, so let's talk about, I think to start off again, this is going to be a fun, fun ride for us kids, because we're going to do, we're going to go down the roads. But I think in this episode, we really want to talk about kind of our introduction, our experience with her and how we met her, because I think it's fun to explore that it's fun to see how people
00:12:41
Speaker
got to understand or got to meet Ahsoka. Because I think it varies. And that's the fun part about even being a Star Wars fan overall is how people got into Star Wars. But then you talk about characters. How do people get into these characters? How do they know? How did they find out about them? So I'll kick us off though. For me, I remember
00:13:06
Speaker
I was, I can't remember the year, but it was, it was a, this was years after Clone Wars came out. This is after, you know, it, they canceled it and everything like that. Right. And I was just maybe starting getting back into like wanting to die deep into Star Wars. And I remember I was just watching TV. I was slipping through the channels and I saw like a cartoon and I saw lightsabers. I was like, Oh, wait, what is this?
00:13:34
Speaker
and I was watching it, and it was Ahsoka, and it was the episode of her and Asajj Ventress. And I didn't watch the entire episode, but I was just like, it was on, I was like, oh, what is this? Because again, Star Wars, lightsabers, you immediately stop if you're a fan. You want to see what's going on. And I remember it being those two characters, obviously knowing who they were later on.
00:13:58
Speaker
And I was like, oh, wow, this is interesting. So I watched whatever portion it was until the commercial break. And then I just kept moving on. Now that I didn't want to continue watching, it was just, you know. But I just remember that image of seeing Ahsoka for sure. I was like, oh, who is she? Because she had these two lightsabers. And she was running away, I think. I didn't know, again, I didn't know at the time the whole story.
00:14:25
Speaker
I remember her character. I remember the look of her. I was like, oh, she looks really cool. And then fast forward to Rebels.
00:14:33
Speaker
watching Rebels and then she comes down, spoiler alert, I guess for anybody who hasn't watched Rebels, but at the end of season one, she comes down and reveals herself as being Fulcrum. And I remember like, oh wait, I'm like, oh wait, that's the one that I like remember watching like however long ago in that one episode. I'm like, well, who is she? And you know, she said her name, Ahsoka.
00:14:57
Speaker
So I was like, well, what is, I'm like, what's the deal? Like I want to know more. So that's when I started kind of doing more research and then started getting into Clone Wars. Then that's when I got introduced to her being Anakin's Padawan from the beginning. And it was fascinating. I was like, oh wow, this is who Anakin slash Darth Vader trained. And this is his Padawan. And it was a fascinating story.
00:15:24
Speaker
So I just remember that being my introduction. So it wasn't a very traditional like, watch the Clone Wars movie, right? And then met her. Like I was all over the place, so.
00:15:37
Speaker
It was it's interesting to see how I how I grew up with this character and how much I just I loved her from the beginning just because again I the aesthetics for me like how she looked her species was cool being a Jedi I loved all that it was very very exciting to kind of see and learn kind of the whole backstory kind of seeing it and
00:16:00
Speaker
like at her like later years it was really weird thing but it was really fun to kind of go back and explore her journey which we will again in other episodes but that was kind of my introduction and again my initial response to her was I loved it like she was cool she was awesome I loved again she had I always remember her having the two lightsabers because to me that was something that I've never seen at the time like everybody was one lightsaber right we knew
00:16:27
Speaker
Luke had one lightsaber. We knew Obi-Wan Vader had one lightsaber. I don't remember ever seeing at the time somebody having two lightsabers. And I was like, that's freaking cool. That's awesome. So that was kind of my introduction and my initial response to the character. So, Andrea, I'll throw it to you. What was, what was your journey like with, with Ahsoka, you know, being introduced to her, kind of what was, what's your story?
00:16:56
Speaker
It's weird, I can't really remember.
00:16:59
Speaker
a couple things, but I do remember that I did not like her. So when the Clone Wars movie came out, it was 2008, Eli was five years old, and Eli was a big Clone Wars kid. He really, really liked the Clone Wars we had. Eventually, as the seasons came out on DVD, we had them all, and he would watch them at night before he would go to bed. And I remember I would put them on, and I would be like,
00:17:29
Speaker
Not my Star Wars Isn't that crazy yeah and I I remember seeing Ahsoka I can't remember if we went and saw the Clone Wars at the movies But I remember not liking her well because one she was she seemed like a brat to me right and and and it was like Anakin didn't have Padawan like what is this garbage and
Star Wars Critiques & Fan Reception
00:17:55
Speaker
then this is this panel on this, this. And I didn't even want to say snippy because I didn't even like the nicknames lips. I love steps. And now looking back on it, like you kind of almost, if you came in at that moment, you kind of almost weren't supposed to like her, you know, because, um,
00:18:18
Speaker
It gave you the opportunity to learn what she was about and for her to somewhat earn your respect, I feel like is how she eventually got presented through the Clone Wars movie and then the Clone Wars show. But at first I was not a fan. I didn't like her skimpy outfit as well too. I was like, why is she dressed like that? God.
00:18:46
Speaker
to be back in 2008 and to have the mental, terrible point of view of
00:18:53
Speaker
being a hater, right? Like that seemed like the time like when you hated stuff, right? Right. You were just, you were taught to just say like, that's not mine. I don't like it. Plus it was coming off the heels of, you know, Revenge of the Sith and Attack of the Clones. And I wasn't necessarily a fan of Hayden Christensen's performance of Anakin. I am very much a fan now, like,
00:19:19
Speaker
It was just like that time where you just you were like made to hate on stuff. You just really were and I feel like there is still a group of people that continue to be like that. Yep.
Ahsoka's Character Significance
00:19:35
Speaker
I never gravitated to her. And my Star Wars was original trilogy Star Wars. It wasn't prequel Star Wars. And it definitely was not Clone Wars Star Wars. But my son watched it a lot. And I think I've said this before, but I have the cutest video of him talking in the background. And he's talking about Cody and Rex and what they were doing. And he was just such a fan.
00:20:01
Speaker
It's a pretty big disappointment that I didn't gravitate to that and watch it with them, but we talk about it a lot now, so it's really great. Now, how I got back into Ahsoka was we started this podcast, and you were a huge fan of her, and you were a huge fan of Rebels, and I had never watched it. I have never, never watched the Clone Wars in its entirety. I had just seen bits and pieces of it, and I had seen the movie, and I wasn't necessarily a fan.
00:20:31
Speaker
And I was like, yeah, I don't know. She's no Obi-Wan Kenobi. She's no Anakin Skywalker. She's no Darth Vader. She's no Leia. She's none of my peeps.
00:20:46
Speaker
But because we started this podcast, I started watching all those animated shows because of you and reading novels and the Soka novel just blew me away. It was it was excellent. And then learning who she was and how impactful she was on Anakin's life and Obi-Wan's life and Yoda's life and the Jedi orders.
00:21:08
Speaker
being and all of that, like she became my favorite and her arc is fantastic. Her character development is lovely. It's just so good. It's one of the best. I mean, in all Star Wars, it really is. I mean, how? And you're totally right though, Andrea, when you said it's almost
00:21:32
Speaker
And this probably wasn't their, obviously, what they wanted to do, but it is almost like they wanted, or they set up the character, I don't wanna say to fail, but they set up the character to really, I think, push fans' idea of not just her, but of Anakin. Yeah, agreed. I think that was the purpose.
00:22:00
Speaker
And it took time. I mean, and you are not alone. There are so many fans, right? I mean, talk about the fandom now. There were many, many, many, many fans that have the same thought that you did. Maybe some still do for some reason, whatever, but that they were not a fan of her to start.
00:22:24
Speaker
because of the whininess, the snippy, right? And like, who is this? Like, this is not Anakin's, he didn't have a padawan. Like, it was hard to wrap around. But give credit to credit, to where credit is due. George Lucas and Dave Floney, let's not forget. I mean, yes, this is Dave's baby, 100%. But this is something that him and George
00:22:51
Speaker
talked about and created together. Yeah, this was George very, this was pushed and supported by George a lot. He was very active
Future of Ahsoka's Stories
00:23:04
Speaker
in the creation of Ahsoka and wanting Anakin to have a padawan. Right, this was a big deal. And a big risk if you really think about it, because like you're saying, a lot of the fandom at the time,
00:23:20
Speaker
We're like, this is why? Why do we have her? She doesn't survive. We know that because we don't see her like, oh, contrary mon frรจre. You don't have a clue what happens. And I don't think maybe even at the time, as they're making Clone Wars, I don't.
00:23:38
Speaker
I mean maybe obviously eventually they did but at the time I don't think they understood how powerful this character would become for the fandom because she has because now just like you and many other fans you know they have grown to just outright love this character a thousandfold like this is some of
00:24:03
Speaker
a lot of, maybe a lot of fandom's favorite character. 100%, like, I mean, and I might've just mentioned it earlier, but like she stacks up against some of these legendary characters now because of how important she is throughout not just Anakin's life and Obi-Wan's life, but really through the thread of Star Wars. Like she is that,
00:24:30
Speaker
that bind that holds a lot of this stuff together, right? Isn't it exciting that we don't know her future? It's so exciting that we're about to get new Ahsoka stories, new Ahsoka events. That seems wild to me because it feels like Star Wars gets told
00:24:55
Speaker
The story gets told so back and forth, so you know of someone's future and what happens to them, and then you get told how they got there. Now, this character, we're learning from the beginning, literally from the beginning, in stages. We'll talk about those stages, obviously, in later episodes, but
00:25:22
Speaker
Like as a whole, I mean, the fandom, just like you're saying, though, like it's wild to see how we have seen as as the fandom have seen this character from the beginning and not like, oh, yeah, we saw Vader first, but then we learned about Anakin Skywalker. Like this is her story. We are watching and we don't even know how it ends. And that's kind of like you're saying. That's kind of the beauty of it.
00:25:52
Speaker
where we don't know, we don't have to be like, oh, well, we know where it goes. No, we don't. We thought we did, right? Maybe at some points we were like, oh, okay, maybe we just don't. No, man, no. Dave Floney's like, I got stories to tell for her. And just like you were saying, it feels like we have so much of her story, right? Because of where she has fallen into the timeline of it all and all that.
00:26:20
Speaker
There are still chunks of stories that we don't know. You know, I mean, talk about between. And again, we'll have these discussions probably later on as we talk about this character the next few episodes. But, you know, between Rebels and Mando, we don't know. Between, you know, Clone Wars and Rebels. Stories. You know, I mean, there are there are still things that you can
00:26:50
Speaker
put into her story that we don't know. There's so
Importance of Star Wars Animation
00:26:54
Speaker
much still to tell. And then again, like you're saying, Andrea, her future, who knows what it could be. I mean, I think the only person that knows is probably Dave Filoni, obviously. He's the only one. And maybe he doesn't even know how he wants to end it though, right? I mean, that's kind of the beauty of it. Don't you think that even the guy that has created it still might not even know how he wants to kind of wrap up her story. I mean, I kind of dig that.
00:27:19
Speaker
But to see where she has come from, like you even mentioned too, Andrea, from a character that a lot of people at first didn't like to now being her own show, leading her own show, that's wild to me. It's also wild that she's gonna have her own show. And again, there are people out there that don't know who she is because she has lived in the animated,
00:27:51
Speaker
It's nice that they have introduced and also in the novels and all of that. So it's nice that she was introduced in Mando as a Jedi, but not as a Jedi. And then with Luke doing Jedi things, but it really needs to open up about what she is and what she stands for because the backstory of how she got to those moments and what happened to her in the Jedi order
00:28:21
Speaker
And the path that she's chosen and who she is now, not necessarily not a Jedi. And I know Dave Filoni has named her as a wanderer. So it's just so interesting. So it fascinates me that just people are going to experience her that haven't seen her in an animated show.
00:28:49
Speaker
It's wild it is wild to think that this will be a lot I mean really a lot of people like you're saying first Interaction with this character unless you have watched the animation and again that is We have talked about it before here Animation Star Wars animation specifically is so important
00:29:13
Speaker
It is so important. It is must watch TV. If you want to know what's going on in Star Wars, if you want to keep up and you want to know about this character, it's must watch stuff. Must watch stuff. I mean, Rebels now, we have said it before, again, that is must watch television, especially with this show coming out.
00:29:40
Speaker
So I read a couple articles and Dave Filoni said that if someone doesn't watch Rebels, they'll be fine. And I...
00:29:52
Speaker
It makes me nervous. Okay. Okay. Go ahead. It makes me nervous because, you know, when you put the effort in to knowing what's going on, you want a little bit of a reward of, um, yeah, I know I knew that or all right, man, they put that into play. Um, so it makes me nervous that.
00:30:17
Speaker
We're going to get an Ahsoka that we don't know. And I think, um, or we didn't expect. And that kind of happened a little bit in Mando when she was out there, like cutting down those, they were droids, but maybe they were people. I didn't really know what they were. And a lot of people were like, that's not Ahsoka.
00:30:40
Speaker
She wouldn't she wouldn't be like that right and then you see the siege of Mandalore and then you see like her making sure that the guns were like the blasters were set to stun and and then so you get like these Conflicting feelings of that's not Ahsoka, but it's Dave's Ahsoka so you have to respect it But the anxiety of how this is going to play out is pretty high for me. I'm gonna be honest
00:31:05
Speaker
Um, I can't get away from wanting to dive into and having expectations for who she's going to be. That's hard. That's hard. My watch just went off. It's so rude of me. But it is. It's hard. It's, I, I am, I'm, I. Wow. I just did that. Instead of turning my watch to silent, I pinged my phone. Like what idiot?
00:31:34
Speaker
We're keeping this in by the way. Just there we go. This is podcast. This is how podcasting goes good But but no you're right. I mean, I think it's gonna be an interesting journey And even if he does say I guess here's my thoughts on this age If he does say, you know, you don't have to have seen rebels It's not to mean for me how I am taking how I would take that
00:31:58
Speaker
Is that, you know, it's not like, Oh, you have to see this to catch every, like to catch the, every rep, like to catch the storyline. I think it's, yeah, this is, you know, it, will it follow a lot of characters in that show and a ton of stuff that if you have watched that show is going to make, I think a lot more sense. Yes. But I think it's not going to be necessary to understand this story necessarily. So, and that tells me too, that this isn't a rebels 2.0.
00:32:28
Speaker
Which is nice. Which is nice and I 100% agree with you because I think we'll some obviously plots of that show come into play probably Right, but I don't think it's going to be as much of a rebels 2.0 as even I expect
00:32:46
Speaker
Rebel fan and again just like you you're a rebels fan too as I think a lot of rebels fans are expecting this to be This is the Ashok Ahsoka. This isn't rebels two-point. This isn't rebels, you know season Five, this is Ahsoka. Yeah, a lot of those characters Will be in this show and a lot of those storylines Will be in this show, but it's not gonna be
00:33:14
Speaker
the Rebels 2.0 that I think we expect. I think a lot of new things we will understand of Ahsoka too. I think like you're saying, Ang. Which is, hey, maybe that is a good thing, bad thing. Because again, there is that time gap, right? Between Rebels and Mando. That's the biggest time gap that we don't know what she went through. Or when she got pulled out of the world between worlds and had to go back.
00:33:44
Speaker
That story is not told and I'm curious if that if we get some of that in this show Because to me that would make sense Maybe not a full like okay. We're starting there. We're starting when she enters back from the world between worlds But I think we'll get references and again That's what Filoni is maybe talking about like you don't have to have seen rebels
00:34:10
Speaker
But it's just gonna be a, it's gonna make a lot more sense. You're gonna get a lot more understanding of certain things in this show, which I'm excited for. I am, I'm really excited about this show. And I'm excited to see, again, the continuation of this journey for this character. 100%, like I think that's more
Ahsoka's Transition to Live-Action
00:34:30
Speaker
fascinating to me. And yeah, I mean, a lot of people did say that Ahsoka, when we see her in Mando season two, was different.
00:34:39
Speaker
I kind of disagree with that to be honest. I do too. That's just me. I understand it. I do. Especially off the heels of like you said, Sijia Mandalore. But this is, this is years after that. This is even years, you know, after maybe rebels, like she's been through a lot of stuff. I mean, talk about fighting her master. Bro. Yeah. Things change for her.
00:35:08
Speaker
real quick, you know, she is in a different place in her journey. And I can't wait to explore that. I really, I really can't. And again, it's my hope, my, my, I go back to again, just the fandom and how we as a whole have just grown up with this character as, as all together. Right. Like it's not like, it just feels like a very big kind of,
00:35:36
Speaker
Star Wars fandom community thing where we all went on this kind of a soaker journey at some point. And we all had, again, very similar ideas of how we felt about the character.
00:35:50
Speaker
but now have come around and understood what the story is being told, why her story is being told, and how important she is, and has turned into this character that is now leading her own show, which is wild to me, and from animation. Like you said, Ann, she started an animation, which is, again, if you don't watch animation, that's fine, but you are missing a lot of good stuff in Star Wars.
00:36:17
Speaker
So I know you believe that Rebels is must-see. I believe Rebels is must-see, absolutely. But prior to August, do you believe that the Clone Wars movie and the Clone Wars show is must-see?
00:36:37
Speaker
For people to get familiarized with Ahsoka, do you think it's necessary? Do you think it's necessary to see the first moment when her and Anna can meet? That's a good point. Is it must-see? No. Is it really important, though, to really understand the character? Absolutely freaking looly it is.
00:37:02
Speaker
If you really wanna know what journey this character has been on and where she is in her journey, right? And why she is the way she is now, you have to watch Clone Wars and Rebels to understand that. So if you jump into this series and like, oh, okay, cool, like Ahsoka, oh, okay, she's some former Jedi, right? Okay, as a general Star Wars fan, you can jump into that story, right?
00:37:29
Speaker
But is it, for me, is it more satisfying? If you have watched everything, yes, yes. I, 100%, in that instance, I think it's must watch. It really is, for this character, it's must watch. Do you have to have watched it before this show? Probably not. I mean, like you just said, they just, you pulled that Dave quote.
00:37:55
Speaker
you don't have to have watched Rebels. And that makes sense because they do have to think about the other fans that have not watched any of this. They do have to make it accessible to where it is not, you know, that they can easily understand what's going on and they don't get confused or they don't have to have watched something to understand the storyline, right?
00:38:23
Speaker
But they're going to make it to where when you have watched, if you have watched this stuff like we have, that you're going to be, it's going to be paid off. I 100% believe
Essential Ahsoka Episodes
00:38:34
Speaker
in that. I don't know if you believe in that, but that's what I believe. I mean, I'll throw it to you too. Do you think it's must? Do you think it's must watch that fans should watch Clone Wars and Rebels before the Ahsoka series?
00:38:49
Speaker
Not before. I don't think it's must watch before. I think it is eventually a must watch. After you've been introduced to this character in some way, you have to go back and learn about where she came from. In the manner of story of what you're usually getting in Star Wars is where you kind of learn events that happen in their life. And then you were like, man, I need to know how we got here.
00:39:18
Speaker
So I don't think it needs to be watched linear early. I think there are a couple like quick hits you could do to hype you for it. That's a good point. I think Twilight of the Prentice is one of them. I think the Siege of Mandalore. I think. Season five Clone Wars. Season five Clone Wars. Absolutely. The end.
00:39:44
Speaker
I think there's a couple really good episodes in the middle I think about when she was in the library with jacasta new yeah and you see her reprimanded I think it when she loses her lightsaber
00:40:03
Speaker
We'll talk about this in future episodes, but I think there are a lot of quick hits you can go to that can kind of get you hyped for the importance of this character. Yeah, and I 100% agree. There are certain episodes that I think are more important than others, right? For sure.
00:40:27
Speaker
But they are very important, and I think you're right. I think if you watch the Quick Kids, the big, big episodes of her, you would have a good understanding heading into the show. 100%. I remember, I mean, we talked about this, I showed the end of Twilight of the Apprentice to my sister, because she had no idea who Ahsoka was. And just to see that moment with her and Darth Vader, then her and Anakin interacting,
00:40:55
Speaker
It's heavy and it's it it's thought provoking. So there are you can go into this blind and just be like, I want to see what this character is about. Maybe I'll like her. Maybe I'll want to know. But I do think there are moments that you could you could almost make like like a hype reel for her. Oh, yeah. Really get you fired up for what's about to happen. Oh, yeah.
00:41:20
Speaker
I just don't agree. I think there there are certain episodes and I wonder if Disney Plus will do that as we get closer. They did at one time have an Ahsoka Tano essential Tano essential storyline like on the homepage. Yeah. So I wonder if they'll keep that maybe add to it. Who knows? But you're right. I think there are certain
00:41:47
Speaker
Events in her journey that are very important and again, we'll talk about those as as we as we go down this journey But just as a whole it is, you know It's it is fascinating. You mean and you said it and it's so fascinating to see how this character has come across the fandom
00:42:09
Speaker
I think that to me is one of the most interesting parts of this character. And that goes to Ashley Eckstein who voices Ahsoka and how she stuck with it and how her and Dave and George believed in this character, believed in the story that they were telling him with this character and knew, had the foresight to understand that this character will be big.
00:42:38
Speaker
And they understood that it's gonna be a bumpy ride in the beginning, but man, did they, they knew, I feel like they knew that this character would be something big. And it has, I mean, look at what it has done for, again, Ashley Eckstein. She has created so much because of Ahsoka Tano, you know? And then
Speculation on Ahsoka Series
00:43:02
Speaker
again, to have her come to live action, that's big. That doesn't happen a lot.
00:43:08
Speaker
Doesn't happen, especially in Star Wars, not a lot of animation characters jump to live action. And now you're getting Ahsoka, plus again, our favorite, a lot of Rebels characters. We got Zeb, I mean, we already had Chopper from Rogue One. We had Zeb, you know, in this latest Mando season, we have seen the trailers.
00:43:34
Speaker
you know, for the Ahsoka. So we know we're going to get Hera. We know we get Sabine. Maybe do we get Ezra? We assume, but again, that might not even be the story. We don't, cause that was such a rebel's storyline, but it's very connected to Ahsoka and Sabine. So it makes sense that that's part of this journey that we're going to go on. But I mean, as hype wise for the show, for the show as I am,
00:44:05
Speaker
I am a little bit like I don't wanna get too excited, right? I think you said it earlier. You just don't,
Marketing Strategies for Ahsoka
00:44:10
Speaker
because I love this character so much. We love this character so much. I don't wanna overextend my expectations. Because then we do the spiral thing, right? As any fan does and as we have done before, like we don't wanna do that, but I am excited. So here's my question though, as we kind of start wrapping up a little bit,
00:44:34
Speaker
We obviously, the articles are coming out. We know Empire Magazine has stuff coming out in July, I believe is when it stands. We know Star Wars, the Star Wars Magazine, I think this month or next month has Ahsoka, like heavy stuff. So the big push for the marketing begins. I assume we will get another type of trailer.
00:44:59
Speaker
Will you be watching that stuff now, Andrea? Or are you going to be not watching the TV spots, the new trailer, whatever comes out for the show prior to its release? Where are you at with that? Man, that's really tough because I really like seeing things for the first time. But I also...
00:45:19
Speaker
Oh you want to know right? I want to know but I did order that Empire magazine and I did order a digital subscription for Empire so that I could and not just for Star Wars but um they have some really great movie articles and movie reviews and show reviews so um I didn't know that was a UK magazine did you know that? Yeah no I didn't I didn't know that I didn't know that was a UK
00:45:44
Speaker
Yeah, um, so I'm just ready to just devour anything anything Ahsoka anything Star Wars, you know watching old things old interviews with Dave and George like I just I don't know what it is like About this. I just want to know as much. I just want to know I
00:46:07
Speaker
So, um, it, it makes me nervous because I, but then again, I, I had, I don't want to be like, Oh, I think she's going to do this. Oh, I think she's going to do that. Oh, I think she's going to be here. Oh, I think like they're going to go get Ezra. I just, that I'm staying away from.
00:46:26
Speaker
So a TV spot I might not watch or a new trailer I might just watch once because I'm pretty forgetful. I don't even remember
Excitement for Upcoming Star Wars Content
00:46:33
Speaker
too much what happened in the first trailer. Oh, I remember it.
00:46:40
Speaker
I remember me and the kid were watching it at work because he didn't notice there was an inquisitor in the trailer. And so we were like playing it back in slow motion. And I was like, I should be doing this. But it's so fun. I think where I'm at is I'll definitely, if there's a new trailer, I'm definitely watching it. Definitely watching it.
00:47:03
Speaker
TV spots, those are kind of where I might, I might not, I try to stay away from them because they do give a little bit more away than I think the trailers do. So I try to, even with movies, I try to keep away from the TV spots.
00:47:20
Speaker
because they do give a little bit more, I feel like, because they want to get people into the theater or they want to get people to watch the show. So they give a little bit more away. But new trailer, I'm definitely watching. I'm definitely watching. And then I think just like you, I'll definitely want to rewatch some stuff heading into the show.
00:47:42
Speaker
Like you're saying, watching those essential episodes of Ahsoka, just to kind of get like, not that I don't recall, because obviously like you, both of us probably watch tons of Star Wars all the time. So, but just to kind of get prepped and to get excited for the show and then obviously for our future episodes, just to talk about some of her adventures in these different time frames. It's going to be fun. I mean, and I'm excited.
00:48:10
Speaker
And I think too, I think you kind of, you touched on it too, Ang, where like, you want to know, like as a fan of, we're, we're starving for new Star Wars. Cause we haven't had it in what? A solid, since the end of March, right? Is that when, or no, end of April? I can't remember when did Mando end in April? Beginning of April. Yeah.
00:48:34
Speaker
So we've been we've been prior to that we had a lot of we had a lot of Star Wars going on. We had a lot. Yeah. So I mean, even even novel wise, there's not much going on right now. There really isn't right now. Phase two is pretty much almost over with besides some comic releases of the High Republic. Right. We don't really get anything until September ish, maybe there's
00:49:00
Speaker
Going on I started doing other things besides Star Wars and I'm like stop doing that We did get a shout out to Disney publishing and the swim publishing del Rey we did get that early access I think eyes of the red blade. Yep. I
00:49:19
Speaker
which I'm excited for that book. Very excited. Very excited to read. But yeah, as far as, you know, new stuff, I mean, yeah, there were, you know, I made more. We had visions. Right. So that was probably the last new stuff. We had the the young Jedi stuff, which I haven't watched. I started watching. Is it fun? I'm going to definitely check them out because they're probably hilarious. I like the shorts.
00:49:45
Speaker
Yeah, I haven't watched a full episodes yet, but I I love I love what they do with that stuff. Yeah, I tried to get my my brother and sister-in-laws kids into Star Wars little by little. I was trying to show them the young Jedi stuff and they were into it. Yeah. You know, the the two I like show them the shorts and they were they were paying attention. So I'm like, all right, little by little, I'll start introducing
00:50:13
Speaker
More and more to them just to get them fans Bad that I'm excited for this show. I'm excited for this character and there's so much to talk about For this character that obviously this is gonna be a Journey up to the show. So we're gonna do
Future Podcast Plans & Wrap-Up
00:50:28
Speaker
a bunch of Ahsoka talks We're gonna do some other stuff heading into the show. We have Thrawn that's a character that is gonna be obviously prevalent in the show and
00:50:38
Speaker
So we're gonna talk about him because I think he's a fascinating character. So that's gonna be a conversation. So we just have some a lot of fun Ahsoka-esque topics down the road as we head into Ahsoka then obviously we will do our recaps as we always do for that show when it comes out. Which we still don't have a date, we just know August. I saw something where someone said August 31st.
00:51:03
Speaker
I don't know how legit that is but we'll see we'll see if that's legit because I talked about this before secret invasions ends at the beginning of August right before the beginning of August so they do have that whole month to start it I don't know if they will wait the entire month we'll find out we'll find out so it's gonna be a fun journey though over the next few episodes kids we're gonna have a lot of fun talking about Ahsoka
00:51:31
