Welcome to the first day of counting the Omer, everyone! We will be met  with God's power during our reading of the Proverbs today. The topics of the proverbs we will read today include Good Things and Greatness, Plans  of the Heart, Tricking People, and Keeping Promises. In our discussion  today we will talk about being able to see people's hearts, who they  really are, by the fruit they produce. We will also discuss people who  look for what's good will find what is good, whereas people who look for  what is bad will find what is bad. We discussed a few days ago to guard  our minds and protect what goes into it via our eyes and ears, focusing  on thinking on things that are lovely, pure, good, kind. This is right  in line with that! Let us use those beautiful thoughts to focus on  finding what is good around us rather than finding what is wrong and  bad.

If you would like to join me LIVE for the daily reading you can register  to attend on my site, here:  https://www.inthefamilywaycoaching.com/schedule

Introduction to Daily Bible Reading

00:00:02
Speaker
Hello everybody, today is Monday, April 14th, 2025 and you are here with Robin at In The Family Way Coaching. We are here for our daily Bible reading.
00:00:13
Speaker
We are going through the Bible this year reading the Day by Day Kids Bible which has been written by Karen Henley.
00:00:21
Speaker
And if you are following along with your calendar, it's time to get that out. I have mine out today and get that sticker on there or however you are keeping track because you're about to hear the Bible today.

Exploration of Proverbs and its Wisdom

00:00:35
Speaker
We are presently going through and reading the through the book of Proverbs, and it is a great selection of wise sayings written by King Solomon. Every one of them is useful for teaching, and you may find that you hear your favorite today.
00:00:52
Speaker
And I will pick a couple for us to talk about after we have finished reading them. So let's go ahead and read about them today. Karen Henley has put them into groups, and the first group that is we have today is called Good Things and Greatness.
00:01:10
Speaker
Bad things come to families of bad people, but good things come to families who please God. God is not happy with people who make fun of others.
00:01:22
Speaker
God loves people who make others feel important.
00:01:29
Speaker
Others will speak well of wise people, but God will make fools look like they are no good.
00:01:37
Speaker
God does not let people who please him go hungry, but he doesn't give bad people what they want. When a storm passes over, bad people are gone, but people who do right stay safe.
00:01:55
Speaker
You can be sure of this. Bad people will get paid back for what they've done. But people who do right will go free.
00:02:05
Speaker
People who look for what's good find what's good. People who look for what's bad find what's bad. Some people pay back bad for good.
00:02:19
Speaker
And trouble will never leave their family.
00:02:25
Speaker
God sees families that sin. He brings terrible things to bad people.
00:02:33
Speaker
Some people want to do what's right. They look for love that doesn't end. They find a life full of greatness and all that is right. If you plant sin, you will grow trouble.
00:02:49
Speaker
Snow does not fit summertime. Rain does not fit the time to gather crops. greatness does not fit a fool.
00:03:01
Speaker
Plans of the heart. The things people do might seem right to them, but God sees why they do these things.
00:03:12
Speaker
Even children know what they are like. Even children show what they are like by how they act. You can tell if they are good if what they do is right.
00:03:23
Speaker
God looks inside people to see their spirits. He sees what you they are thinking.
00:03:32
Speaker
When you look into water, you can see your face. When you understand someone's heart, you see what that person is really like.
00:03:44
Speaker
God is far away from people who do wrong, but God hears the prayers of people who do right.
00:03:53
Speaker
God likes it when people do what is right and fair. He likes it better than any gifts they could give.
00:04:02
Speaker
Tricking people is the title of our last section is the title of our next section today. Sinful people go around saying bad things. They wink to show that they are not telling the truth.
00:04:16
Speaker
They give secret signs with their feet or fingers. Their hearts plan to trick others. They always make fuss people fuss with each other.
00:04:28
Speaker
So trouble will come to these people all of a sudden.
00:04:33
Speaker
There won't be any way out of it.
00:04:36
Speaker
Good people are guided by truth, but sinful people's lies get them into trouble.
00:04:43
Speaker
Some people look at what they want to buy. oh it's not any good, they say. But after they buy it, they brag about it.
00:04:54
Speaker
Don't eat with people who don't want to share. Don't even think about wanting their special food. They're the kind of people who worry about what it costs.
00:05:06
Speaker
They'll tell you, eat, drink, but they don't really mean it. then Then you'll throw up what you ate and the good things you said about their food won't mean anything.
00:05:21
Speaker
Shiny paint covers a pot made from clay. Words that are too good may hide a sinful heart.
00:05:31
Speaker
Some people don't care if they hurt others. They may try to hide what they really like. They may sound great, but do not believe them. Their hearts are full of bad things.
00:05:45
Speaker
Lies hide their hate, but their sin will show up one day.
00:05:52
Speaker
Our last section is entitled Keeping Promises.
00:05:57
Speaker
Keep your promises. Write them on your heart. Then God and people will speak well of you. They will be happy to hear your name. Many people say they will never stop loving.
00:06:10
Speaker
But who can find someone who keeps all of his promises? Don't trust someone who does not keep their promises. That's as bad as having a hurting tooth.
00:06:22
Speaker
It's as bad as walking on a foot that you broke.
00:06:26
Speaker
And that is the end of our reading of Proverbs today.

True Character Revealed Through Actions

00:06:31
Speaker
I had several Proverbs that I really liked the most and to talk about today. The first one I have that I have marked is for under the section of plans of the heart.
00:06:47
Speaker
The things people do might seem right to them, but God sees why they do these things. And even children show what they're like by how they act. You can tell how they are good but if what they do is right.
00:07:03
Speaker
and God looks inside people to see their spirits. He sees what you are thinking.
00:07:12
Speaker
um
00:07:15
Speaker
I like those. Because they talk about... that it's hard to see, its it can be hard to judge what somebody is doing, whether it is right or wrong. We have to look at people to see their heart.
00:07:27
Speaker
ah throughout the Bible we've been reading that God sees our hearts. And so one of the things that we can pray for is wisdom to be able to see how people really are.
00:07:38
Speaker
And that way we are not deceived by how they act. And sometimes what the Bible is telling us here is that a pot that is shiny can hide words inside that are lies.
00:07:49
Speaker
If words are too good, if people just seem to be ah overly saying what they think it sounds like the right thing. It could be that what they're hiding is lies. So that is talking about pretending, pretending to be what they are not.
00:08:05
Speaker
And we find that people will pretend to be good and they will lie. and And we have to watch out for that and look for what is on the inside. And how do we tell? By our fruit, by how people act.
00:08:19
Speaker
This is why the verse says, even a child is known by how he acts.
00:08:26
Speaker
You can tell if they are good if what they do is right. it's not just the words that come out of the mouth. It's our fruit. It's how we behave. It's how we treat others. And if we treat others consistently with good and love, then people will see our heart.
00:08:44
Speaker
If we are always saying nasty things about people, then people will be able to see that that is what is in our hearts. Because out of the mouth will come the overflow of the heart. And that's why and really like the one that says, let's see, I marked it here.
00:09:04
Speaker
Some people don't care if they hurt others. They may try to hide what they really like, and they may sound great, but don't believe them. Their hearts are full of bad things and lies hide their hate, but their sin will show up one day.
00:09:19
Speaker
That's the actions, the fruit. We can tell what Jesus says. We can tell who we are by the fruit that we produce.
00:09:31
Speaker
Let's see, what is the one that I really liked? I thought I had another one marked in here.
00:09:42
Speaker
Ah, yes, here we go. I had marked it so lightly I almost didn't see it. This one was my very favorite. This is the one that I really wanted to show for our daily application today.

Reflecting on Unexpected Events

00:09:54
Speaker
People who look for what's good, find what's good. people who look for what's bad find what's bad we talked a little bit the other day about keeping about um we need to guard what goes into our minds what we hear and what we see because we have to protect our minds and this is kind of along that same line we said well what do we Think about if if we are wanting to make sure that we are not hearing and just seeing bad things.
00:10:27
Speaker
And the Bible tells us that whatever is lovely, whatever is pure, whatever is beautiful, think about these things. If we are always thinking bad things, then we will be more inclined to find and look for bad things.
00:10:42
Speaker
But if we are thinking about good things, then we will be more likely to think and look for good things. I, oh, we're having an earthquake.
00:11:15
Speaker
Okay, well, my phone went off. It says yeah estimated magnitude 5.7, 5.7 miles away. And I think that is over. Well, thank you for that bit of excitement there as we were reading our Bible study today.
00:11:32
Speaker
Okay. We are in a very holy time right now. We are in the first day of Omer and we have ah just completed Passover.

Encouragement for Positive Engagement

00:11:42
Speaker
And we have Easter approaching, and so ah we should not be surprised that our Earth is having labor pains.
00:11:51
Speaker
And so it was just a very mild earthquake, so I'm very thankful for that. That is definitely one of the things that tends to make me a little more scared than other times. And... um I think that just about concludes our recording to- today as we finish talking about thinking about good things.
00:12:14
Speaker
And so I just want to make sure I i go back to our... um Keep on track here. Sorry, I'm having little trouble getting back on track there. That ah people who look for good things will find good things.
00:12:30
Speaker
So that should be our daily application today. and try look and think about good things and to not focus on bad things. So thank you for joining me today.
00:12:42
Speaker
Whether you are listening on your favorite podcasting app or whether you are watching on video on Spotify or YouTube or on TikTok or on my site, however you have found this event, thank you so much for joining me today.
00:12:58
Speaker
And if you feel that God has lit your light, then please click that light button. It looks like a thumbs up or a heart, but it is a light button. We are the light of the world, and we have Jesus' light shining through us, and we are the salt of the earth.
00:13:14
Speaker
And we want to attract people to read God's word so that they too can be made wise by learning that learning about God and making him the most important one is the first step to being wise.
00:13:27
Speaker
and we should always be making god the most important one in our lives and we want to help spread the word about reading god's word and clicking that light button draws a little bit of attention to the event so that other people will say hey what's going on over there what are we hearing over there And so I just want to bring glory to God in these for this event, to read his word.
00:13:50
Speaker
So thank you for joining me today. And i will see here ah be here, God willing, with everybody again tomorrow. Have a great day.
