7 Plays21 days ago

Today our reading will cover 1 Kings Chapters 4, and 8-10 and 2  Chronicles Chapters 5-9. We will read about Solomon's great wealth and  wisdom. We will read about people coming from all over the world to hear Solomon's wisdom and add to his riches. We will hear about God's  warning to Solomon if the people do not obey his commands and what will  happen if Solomon worships fake gods. Most importantly, we will see God's direction to LOOK FOR HIM to restore their relationship with Him when the people sin and God's promise of forgiveness when they do so. We  will discuss God's great forgiveness of OUR sins by the sacrifice of Jesus' death and be thankful to Him for always being faithful to forgive us of our sins.

Introduction and Bible Reading Plan

00:00:02
Speaker
Hi there everyone, it is Thursday, April 10th, 2025 and you are here with Robin at In The Family Way Coaching. We are here for our daily Bible reading and we are using the Day by Day Kids Bible which has been written by Karen Henley.
00:00:18
Speaker
If you are following along with your daily calendar, it's time to get that out and mark it off however you are using to mark it off and because you're about to hear the Bible today.
00:00:30
Speaker
I am so glad that you are here with me. i know that this is a very late recording and nobody has the opportunity to listen to it today on the 10th and that it will be the 11th before anybody is able to listen.
00:00:41
Speaker
But I'm so glad that you are choosing to ah follow along with our sessions to hear the story regardless of which day you're able to get to it. Because although I am faithful to get them up every day, it is not necessarily in a time frame in which you can hear it.

Passover Conference Experience

00:00:57
Speaker
So thank you for your grace, because I was at a Passover conference today in preparation for Passover, which begins this weekend on Saturday, technically Friday at sundown.
00:01:08
Speaker
I have been attending a Messianic Jewish congregation, and so I have been eagerly anticipating the celebration of my first Passover and ah enjoying my first Seder meal, which I will be doing as a commute at a community Seder in San Diego here on Saturday.
00:01:27
Speaker
So I was at a Passover conference in preparation at the same location today, and I will be there again tomorrow. So I'm not certain that I will be able to get tomorrow's episode up.
00:01:38
Speaker
ah This whole weekend, it's kind of a long weekend of going and listening to the speakers, and they usually have the first one at 10 a.m. in the morning. And then, um, so it's hard for me to get the recording done before I leave in the morning because I already get up at like six o'clock in the morning and it's hard for me to even get them out, uh, leaving for work by 1030, 11 o'clock in the morning.
00:02:05
Speaker
So the fact that I would need to leave 9 o'clock, which is like when I go to service on Saturday, which usually I have to leave by 9, it's very difficult for me to get those done and recorded.
00:02:18
Speaker
Now on Saturdays and Sundays, um you guys are busy, and so I don't tend to have any listening. any listeners on Saturday or Sunday in general, ah statistically speaking.
00:02:29
Speaker
So I don't worry about it there, but we are still during the week here on Thursday and Friday. So I want to thank you for your grace and your patience with me as I am getting these up the best that I can.
00:02:46
Speaker
I thought there was something else I was going to say and now I i can't remember what it was. But and I'm so glad that you guys are here. Oh, and what I was going to say about the Passover is that I mentioned that I am attending a Messianic Jewish congregation.
00:03:00
Speaker
And so I am anticipating the celebration of my first Passover. But I wanted to point out that one of the reasons I had mentioned previously, if you guys were here, lot of people have maybe not been here.
00:03:14
Speaker
from the very, very, very beginning, ah is that I have been feeling God's call in my life to celebrate the festivals that he has set forth for us in the Old Testament. And what I am finding in my reading of the Bible is that and these festivals were set from God to be observed forever.
00:03:36
Speaker
And so we think of them as being Jewish festivals, but these were festivals that God gave for everybody. So you do not have to be Jewish to celebrate these festivals because God and brought us all together, Gentile and Jew, and we don't have to convert to Judaism in order to celebrate these festivals.
00:03:56
Speaker
And so what I found today at the Passover conference was while I was expecting it to come from a Jewish perspective, it actually was coming from a Christian perspective, which I was very surprised at.

Symbolism of Passover

00:04:08
Speaker
It was not at all what I was expecting. And so... ah It really highlights the fact, and what they highlighted today, is that if you check out your Bible in Exodus, I can't remember exactly, chapter 12 maybe, I think it was, ah where God institutes the Passover festival, it says that it is to be observed forever.
00:04:33
Speaker
And well, Jesus came to fulfill the law, not to abolish it. So the Passover is symbolic of his coming. and And so while he fulfilled it, and there are many things such as he was um crucified on the day of preparation, which is the day that the lamb would be sacrificed for the Passover celebration.
00:04:56
Speaker
um It's just, it's remarkable. And this year um for Easter, Easter is actually ah coinciding exactly with the Passover celebration again.
00:05:09
Speaker
And it has not done that apparently in a thousand years. So I thought that was really interesting. And so I just wanted to share that this Passover celebration and where we celebrate the Feast of Unleavened Bread, which is where you ah don't eat any bread with yeast in it.

Celebrating Passover and Unleavened Bread

00:05:26
Speaker
That means cookies and cakes and other things of that nature. I wanted to encourage you as my brothers and sisters in Christ that while it may be a little late for you to look to celebrate that festival this year,
00:05:39
Speaker
um It may not be, if you are diligent in your preparation for Friday, to get rid of the yeast in your house, anything that has yeast in it, and just simply don't eat anything that is made with yeast.
00:05:54
Speaker
And that means things like pizza and cookies and cakes, to read those ingredients and to simply not eat ah yeast for the next seven days after the Passover. And then we will be celebrating Easter, the resurrection.
00:06:07
Speaker
which also apparently coincides with the ah festival of fruit first fruits, which I'm not good on the Hebrew names for these things yet. But I'm told that while in Judaism they do not celebrate Easter, they do celebrate ah the festival of first fruits, I think is what they called it, which is I have yet to learn how that coincides with Jesus's rising.
00:06:35
Speaker
ah after the third day, but I will be learning about that. And so I just wanted to encourage you. i know some of you will be participating as best you can.
00:06:48
Speaker
And I wanted to encourage all of us to ask God about it and be prayerful about it to see if he is also leading you ah to be mindful of these festivals that he set out for us to do in observance in clear back in Exodus or in other books in the Old Testament.
00:07:06
Speaker
So that we can be more in obedience with God's word. So today we are going to be continuing about reading with Solomon.

Solomon's Temple Dedication

00:07:16
Speaker
And yesterday we saw how Solomon finished the building of the temple that he got to build.
00:07:23
Speaker
And we're going to see what he does after that.
00:07:30
Speaker
Our first section comes to us from 1 Kings chapter 8 and 2 Chronicles chapters 5 through 7, and it's entitled, Solomon Bows and Prays.
00:07:43
Speaker
King Solomon called all the leaders of God's people to come. It was time to bring the ark to the worship house. The priests carried the ark box. They carried the worship tent and the things in it.
00:07:58
Speaker
Solomon and all the people gathered in front of the ark. They put sheep and cows on the altars, and this was their gift to God.
00:08:09
Speaker
Then the priests put the ark in the worship house, and they put it in the most holy place. It went under the two big gold figures. The ark had the two stone charts in it.
00:08:23
Speaker
Moses had put these in the ark box. Nothing else was in it. I thought that was interesting, Julie. Nothing else was in the Ark Box at this point.
00:08:34
Speaker
We had read previously ah that the Ark Box contained some mana, as well as Aaron's staff. But at this point, there is nothing else in it.
00:08:46
Speaker
The priests came out of the Most Holy Place. Then some of the priests played horns. Others sang. Some played cymbals, harps, and lyres.
00:08:58
Speaker
They all cheered for God. They sang, God is good. His love lasts forever.
00:09:07
Speaker
Then a cloud filled the worship tent, the worship house, and the priests couldn't even do their work. That's because the cloud was there.
00:09:19
Speaker
God's greatness filled the worship house. Solomon talked to God. God, you said you would live in a dark cloud, but I built this great worship house for you, God.
00:09:35
Speaker
It's a place where you can live forever. Then Solomon turned around to see all of God's people, and he prayed for good things to come to them. Praise God, he said.
00:09:48
Speaker
He has kept his promise to David, my father. David wanted to build this worship house, but God chose me to build it. Now it has been built.
00:09:59
Speaker
I have put God's ark box in the worship house. Solomon bowed down. He held his hands out toward heaven. There is no God like you, he said.
00:10:13
Speaker
You promised to love people who follow you, and you have kept your promise. Even the highest heavens can't hold you, said Solomon. So I know this worship house cannot hold you.
00:10:27
Speaker
Watch over this worship house day and night. Hear us when we look toward this worship house and pray.
00:10:36
Speaker
Solomon got up. He talked to the people in a loud voice. Praise God! He promised he would give us rest. He has kept his promise.
00:10:48
Speaker
I pray that God will be with us. I pray that he will give us what we need each day. Then everybody in the world will know that he is the only God.
00:11:02
Speaker
Love him with your whole heart. Live the way he says to live. Obey his rules.
00:11:11
Speaker
Then fire came from heaven down on the altar and burned up the offerings. God's greatness filled the worship house and the people saw it.
00:11:25
Speaker
They put their faces to the ground and they worshiped God for seven days. They thanked him. God is good, they said. His love lasts forever.
00:11:38
Speaker
They offered gifts on the altar, and the priests blew their horns. For the next seven days, they had a special holiday for God. After that, all the people went home happy.
00:11:53
Speaker
They were all glad about the good things God had done.

Solomon's Wisdom and Warnings

00:12:00
Speaker
Look for me is the title of our next section, and it comes from 1 Kings chapter 9 and 2 Chronicles chapter 7.
00:12:11
Speaker
One night God came to Solomon. God said, I heard you when you prayed. Let's say there is no rain for a long time, or grasshoppers come and eat the crops, or the people get sick.
00:12:29
Speaker
Then my people should stop thinking they're so great. They should pray. They should look for me. They should be sorry for what they have done wrong.
00:12:41
Speaker
Then i will hear them from heaven, said God. I'll forgive them, and I will make their land well again. i will watch over my people.
00:12:52
Speaker
I will hear their prayers, for I chose this worship house. It is a so special place for me. My name will be here forever.
00:13:06
Speaker
Now how about you, Solomon? asked God. Live the way I tell you, just as your father, David, did. Obey me.
00:13:17
Speaker
Then your family will rule forever. But what if you do not obey me? said God. What if you worship fake gods?
00:13:28
Speaker
Then I will take my people out of this land. This worship house may look great now, but if you do not obey me, people will ask what happened to it, and the answer will be that my people did not obey me.
00:13:44
Speaker
That is why I sent trouble to them.
00:13:49
Speaker
Riches for a Wise King 1 Kings chapters 4 and 9 through 10 and 2 Chronicles 1 chapter 9 1 and 9 God made Solomon very wise.
00:14:04
Speaker
He could understand so much. It was like all the sand on the beach. It couldn't be counted. He was wiser than all the wise men of the east.
00:14:17
Speaker
He was wiser than the wise men of Egypt. All the nations knew about him. Solomon wrote 3,000 wise sayings, and he wrote 1,005 songs.
00:14:32
Speaker
He wrote about big trees and little plants. He taught people about animals, birds, fish, and snakes. People from all over the world came to hear Solomon's wise words.
00:14:47
Speaker
Kings had heard how wise he was, so they sent people to see him. and Every year Solomon got about 25 tons of gold.
00:14:59
Speaker
He made 200 big gold shields. He made 300 small gold shields, and he put them in the forest palace.
00:15:12
Speaker
Solomon made himself a throne of gold and ivory. Six steps went up to it. A lion figure stood at each side of the chair.
00:15:24
Speaker
One lion figure stood at the end of each step, and that made twelve lions on the steps. No other kingdom ever had anything like this.
00:15:35
Speaker
All of Solomon's cups were gold. Nothing was made of silver because it had little value then. It was just like rocks. Solomon was richer than any other king. Now everybody wanted to hear Solomon because he was so wise.
00:15:52
Speaker
Everyone who came brought him gifts. They brought him silver and gold. They brought clothes and swords. They brought spices and horses and donkeys.
00:16:05
Speaker
Solomon had 1,400 chariots. he had twelve thousand horses He had to have 4,000 pens for his horses.
00:16:20
Speaker
Solomon also built ships. Hiram sent men who knew about the sea. They sailed with Solomon's men on the ships. They went to sea and brought back 16 tons of gold.
00:16:33
Speaker
They brought back silver and ivory. They brought back apes and baboons. While Solomon was king, God's people were at peace.
00:16:45
Speaker
They were happy.
00:16:48
Speaker
The queen of Sheba heard about Solomon, and she heard that he obeyed God. So she came to see Solomon, and she wanted to see just how wise he was.
00:17:00
Speaker
She had many hard questions for him. The queen brought a long line of camels with her. They carried spices, gold, and beautiful stones.
00:17:13
Speaker
The Queen of Sheba asked Solomon many questions. Solomon answered every question. There was no question too hard for him.
00:17:25
Speaker
The Queen saw how wise Solomon was. She saw his palace. She saw the food he ate. She saw his servants in their beautiful robes.
00:17:37
Speaker
and she saw the people who brought his drinks. She saw the gifts he offered to God at the worship house. It was more than she had dreamed. What I heard about you is true, she said.
00:17:51
Speaker
I didn't believe it until I saw it for myself. What I see is much more than what I heard. You are wiser and richer than what I was told.
00:18:03
Speaker
Your people must be very happy, she said. Your leaders must be happy to hear your wisdom. Praise goes to your God. He has been happy with you.
00:18:15
Speaker
He made you the king of his people, and he did it so you could be fair and right. King Solomon gave the Queen of Sheba everything she wanted, and then she went back home.
00:18:29
Speaker
And that's the end of our long reading today.
00:18:35
Speaker
Wow, Solomon was super rich. Do you remember why Because when Solomon was asked by God, what do you want? Solomon said that all he wanted was to be wise to rule the people for God.
00:18:52
Speaker
And God said that he was pleased with that answer and that he would also give Solomon what he did not ask for, which was to be rich and a long life.
00:19:06
Speaker
But now that he has completed the temple, what did God warn him about?
00:19:13
Speaker
He said, I heard you when you prayed. Let's see.
00:19:23
Speaker
Live the way I tell you, just as your father David did. Obey me, then your family will rule forever. But what if you don't obey me, said God?
00:19:35
Speaker
What if you worship fake gods? Then I will take my people out of this land. This worship house may look great now, but if you don't obey me, people will ask what happened to it.
00:19:50
Speaker
And the answer will be that my people did not obey me. That's why I sent trouble to them.
00:19:58
Speaker
So God issues a warning to King Solomon, but he also sends hope because he says that once the people have been disciplined with things that have gone wrong, it says, they should pray.
00:20:16
Speaker
My people should stop thinking they are so great. They should look for me. They should be sorry for what they've done wrong. Then I'll hear them from heaven.
00:20:27
Speaker
I'll forgive them I'll make my land well. I will make their land well again. I will watch over my people. I will hear their prayers. For I chose this worship house.
00:20:40
Speaker
It is a special place for me. So God issued both a warning to behave as well as listing consequences for when they did not obey.
00:20:51
Speaker
but he also gave them hope to know that if they called upon him, he would be faithful to hear them and forgive them. And God always forgives us when we are faithful to come to him and tell the truth.
00:21:04
Speaker
Remember, confession is not to say, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry. Confession means to tell the truth, to admit what it is that we've done wrong. And then God is so faithful to forgive us.
00:21:16
Speaker
And we are so blessed to have Jesus, who was our ultimate Passover lamb sacrifice, because his wrath passes over us and we do not have to suffer the consequence of death.
00:21:29
Speaker
I am so thankful that God gave us his son, Jesus, to die on the cross for our sins. And I know you are too. Otherwise you wouldn't be here reading this, listening to this Bible reading with me all year.
00:21:44
Speaker
And so that is our application. We will see if Solomon follows God's command and stays away from worshiping fake gods. Worshiping fake gods is a very bad thing.
00:21:58
Speaker
And it is something that God considers the worst thing that people can do is to worship things that are not him. He gives us his 10 commandments. and he tells us to worship no other god before him nothing and he is the one true god so nothing should be worshipped not time thank you for reminding me of that this week julie and not nothing should be worshipped above god and we read earlier this past week in the psalms that making god the most important one in our lives it's the beginning of wisdom
00:22:37
Speaker
And here we saw Solomon making God the most important person in his life. But like all of us, he is not perfect. And none of us is perfect. we will see what he does later on.
00:22:49
Speaker
But we need to remember for ourselves not to worship anything other than God and to keep God as the most important one in our lives. That is our big application today.
00:23:01
Speaker
And so I pray that everybody here, i i prayed a couple of days ago that God would put it on your hearts that you would make God the most important one in your life.

Final Reflections and Devotion

00:23:13
Speaker
And it is something we need to do every single day. It's not a one and done thing. Every day we live, we need to remember to make God the most important one in our lives today.
00:23:27
Speaker
So thank you for joining me today. I hope that you enjoyed today's reading. Tomorrow we are going to start reading the Proverbs. And we will have ah ah some time in that.
00:23:37
Speaker
There are a lot of Proverbs. So I think we will be reading them for a couple of weeks. just like we read the Psalms for a couple of weeks. So thank you for joining me today for this reading, even though it's not up in time to be listened to by anyone on the 10th.
00:23:54
Speaker
I will technically have it up hopefully on the 10th so that it will show on the 10th for everybody's date on the reading there. But I'm so glad that you are here with me. And if you feel that God has lit your light with today's reading, please click that light button after you're done listening or watching.
00:24:13
Speaker
And if you have not already, please consider subscribing to the channel or following along on the channel so that you can receive the notification for when I do get these posted. And that way you will be able to know without checking back.
00:24:26
Speaker
And hope help us spread the word about reading God's word because we are the light of the world and the salt of the earth. And I want everybody to see Jesus's light shining through all of us so that we can help spread that word about reading God's word.
00:24:43
Speaker
I hope everybody has a fantastic rest of their day. Whenever time they are able to hear the session to today. And I will be here for everybody again tomorrow.
