Welcome to the Proverbs! Today we will begin reading the wise sayings of  Solomon. Can you believe Solomon wrote over 3,000 wise sayings?  Every single proverb is relevant and has  personal application, but we will focus on a couple of them that REALLY stand out and discuss those for our personal application. We will once again read that making God the most important one in our lives is the beginning of wisdom, but today's jewel is the admonishment to be careful of what we let into our minds. Jesus taught us that even THINKING about doing something sinful is the same as having committed the actual sin, because sin starts by THINKING about doing it! It is of utmost importance that we guard our ears and eyes from bad things to keep them from getting into our minds and planting the seeds of sin. So what should we think about INSTEAD of negative, angry, or sinful  things? Whatsoever is true, right, pure, lovely, admirable- if anything  is excellent or praiseworthy, think about such things. Philippians 4:8.

00:00:12
Speaker
We are here for our daily Bible reading.
00:00:15
Speaker
We are going through the whole Bible this year and we are using the Day by Day Kids Bible, which has been written by Karen Henley.
00:00:25
Speaker
If you are following along with your own calendar, it's time to get your calendar out and mark it off because you're about to hear the Bible today.
00:00:36
Speaker
I am so glad that you are joining me, whether you are finding me on your favorite podcasting app or whether you are watching the video from Spotify or YouTube or TikTok or from my website.
00:00:48
Speaker
Thank you so much for joining me. I'm so glad that God has led you here for this event and that you are listening to the Bible every day this year with me.

Passover Experience and Schedule Conflicts

00:00:57
Speaker
In case you are unaware, today is the first night of Passover, the celebration that is talked about in the book of Exodus, which commemorates the nights ah that God ah had the plague of the death of the firstborn in everybody's house before the Israelites left Egypt.
00:01:19
Speaker
And Moses told the people that they needed to sacrifice a lamb. and put some of the blood on the top and sides of their doorpost.
00:01:30
Speaker
And when the angel of death came that night, that the angel of the Lord would pass over the homes of the people who had the markings on the door from the lamb, ah the blood of the lamb.
00:01:44
Speaker
Now, you probably know that Jesus is our Messiah, and he is our sacrificial Passover lamb.

Biblical Feasts and Messianic Jewish Perspective

00:01:52
Speaker
This was a um
00:01:57
Speaker
foretelling of Jesus coming to be our sacrificial lamb because you the Lord passes over us and we are not judged for sin because Jesus paid the price for our sins.
00:02:11
Speaker
So tonight is the first night of Passover, and so I am observing that, and I have been at a Passover conference the past couple of days, Thursday and today, and I will be attending tomorrow as well.
00:02:25
Speaker
So that is why I am not getting the and session posted

Introduction to Proverbs

00:02:30
Speaker
early in the day. i just simply don't have time since the first speaker is at 10 a.m., m and I need to leave by around 9 or 9-something to get there.
00:02:39
Speaker
So it's a little early for me to get up and get the recording done before I leave for the day. So thank you so much for joining me and for your patience and your grace as I get these episodes posted and the readings done.
00:02:54
Speaker
And so if you're unable to get to them late at night when I finally get them posted, I do appreciate you listening at whichever time you're able to catch up on our episodes.
00:03:05
Speaker
Remember to mark your calendar off whatever day that you are listening because the point is that you heard that lesson for the day. It doesn't matter if you caught up to it a couple of days later.

Key Proverbs and Wisdom

00:03:18
Speaker
And that ah feast of the unleavened bread, which she goes along with Passover here, and that is, ah God says, to be celebrated forever.
00:03:30
Speaker
So simply because we have Jesus who came, it tends to not be a festival that is celebrated in the Christian churches. And I was very happy to see that. ah The speakers who were here for yesterday and today were Christian speakers, and it's not simply something that we typically consider as a Jewish holiday.
00:03:49
Speaker
They are observing it, and ah the Messianic ju Jewish church that I have been attending recognizes Jesus as the Passover lamb because they believe that Jesus is the Messiah who has come.
00:04:04
Speaker
And so this is actually a festival that God commanded in the book of Exodus to be observed forever. it is not something that we are supposed to be skipping simply because we are Christians.
00:04:16
Speaker
So I hope that you are encouraged to check out the feasts that God has set aside for us to celebrate each year. And I will talk more about those as they come up later in the year.
00:04:31
Speaker
So thank you for being here with me. And we are starting the book of Proverbs today.
00:04:39
Speaker
These are ah Solomon's wise words. Solomon wrote a lot of Proverbs at the close of our reading yesterday. It says that, let's see what it says on here.
00:04:56
Speaker
Solomon wrote 3,000 wise sayings. Those are Proverbs, the wise sayings. And he wrote 1,005 songs. So like his father David, he was a prolific writer.
00:05:11
Speaker
He wrote a lot of things. He also wrote the Song of Solomon, which we will get to after the book of Proverbs. So we are going to be reading through reading ah you will get to just enjoy the wisdom of Solomon, who was the wisest man ever to live.
00:05:33
Speaker
And God said he would be the wisest to ever live.
00:05:39
Speaker
The first section, the first Psalm is called Listen and Learn, and it is Proverbs 1. A lot of these Proverbs speak as a father speaking to his children or to his child.
00:05:55
Speaker
These are King Solomon's wise sayings. These sayings will teach people the wise way to think. They'll make fools become wise. They'll help you do what's right and fair.
00:06:09
Speaker
They'll help young people know and choose what's good. So if you're wise, listen and learn even more.
00:06:22
Speaker
Treat God as the most important one. That gets you started to know what's right. A person who hates what's wise is a fool.
00:06:35
Speaker
Proverbs 8. What is wise thinking?
00:06:41
Speaker
Wise thinking calls out to everybody. Listen, choose to learn from what I say. Choose wise thinking instead of silver.
00:06:53
Speaker
Knowing is better than having gold. Nothing you want can be better than being wise. Thinking what's wise and doing what's wise go together.
00:07:08
Speaker
People who think God is important hate what is bad. Wise thinking hates pride and bragging. Rulers make good laws when their thinking is wise.
00:07:23
Speaker
If you look for wise thinking, you will find it. Wise thinking brings riches and greatness.
00:07:33
Speaker
Now listen to what's wise, my children. If you find wise thinking, you find life and make God happy. But if you don't find wise thinking, you get hurt.
00:07:49
Speaker
Proverbs 2.
00:07:52
Speaker
and Proverbs 3

Guarding Thoughts and Positive Thinking

00:07:54
Speaker
verses 17 through 24, hidden riches.
00:07:59
Speaker
My child, listen to what's wise. Try to understand. Ask for help with all you need to know. Then you'll understand how to look up to God.
00:08:13
Speaker
You'll find out how to know God. You'll understand what's right and fair. Your heart will be wise and it will feel good to know.
00:08:27
Speaker
Choosing the right way will keep you safe. Wise thinking saves you from bad people. They trick people. They enjoy doing wrong.
00:08:40
Speaker
Wise thinking saves you from sinning with sex. Some people try to talk you into this, but that leads to death. So do what good people do.
00:08:53
Speaker
Do what's right. It feels good to do what is wise. My child, always choose wisely. Wise thinking will help you be safe.
00:09:08
Speaker
You won't be afraid when you lie down. You will have a good night's sleep.
00:09:15
Speaker
Proverbs 4, early morning light.
00:09:21
Speaker
My children, listen to your father. I'll teach you what's right. Don't forget my teaching. When I was a boy, my father told me, take my words into your heart.
00:09:36
Speaker
Obey me and you'll live. Wise thinking will keep you safe. So love it. Get understanding, even if it costs a lot.
00:09:50
Speaker
Know that being wise is important. Then wise thinking will make you important. Listen, my child, do as I say and you will live many years.
00:10:04
Speaker
Remember what you learn. It's important and for your life. Don't live the way bad people do. They can't sleep until they've done something bad.
00:10:16
Speaker
The way right people live is like early morning light. It shines brighter and brighter until it is day. But the way sinful people live is like the darkness of night.
00:10:32
Speaker
They don't even know what makes them fall. More than anything, be careful of what you let into your mind. Look ahead and think about what you should do.
00:10:45
Speaker
Follow the ways that are sure and right. Stay away from things that are sinful.
00:10:53
Speaker
And that's the end of our Proverbs today.
00:10:59
Speaker
We could almost just have everybody go through and pick out what Proverbs speaks to your heart of what you heard to- today. But I think that the most important line that we read today in the Proverbs
00:11:14
Speaker
is where it says, more than anything, be careful of what you let into your mind.
00:11:23
Speaker
That means that your mind is very important. Sin starts with thinking about it. We've talked about grieving the Holy Spirit, and that's because God's spirit is inside of us.
00:11:36
Speaker
God hears our thoughts. Before God destroyed the earth with the flood, he was sad because he said that the thoughts of people were always bad. It's our thoughts.
00:11:48
Speaker
It's not good enough to simply not do things that you think about. it's you have Jesus tells us that if you even think about sinning, you've already done it.
00:12:02
Speaker
And so it is more important than anything to be careful of what we let into our mind. That involves listening to people who say bad things.
00:12:14
Speaker
It involves what we would call entertaining of thoughts. If you are thinking about angry things, grumpy things, ugly things,
00:12:26
Speaker
i it's not good for our brain because where our brain starts to think, then our actions start to do, start to go along with them. So it's very important that we guard our eyes and our mind to not let things into our mind and our ears, because we can hear bad things or we can see bad things.
00:12:49
Speaker
So it's very important that we block these things from getting into our mind. And that when we start to notice that we're having thoughts that are not good, then we need to try to change that those thoughts.
00:13:05
Speaker
Change the channel. We talked about changing the channel in the past, and that's a technique that we can use where every time bad thoughts start to come,

Engagement and Reflection

00:13:17
Speaker
we acknowledge them and we realize what we're doing and say, i don't have to think about this.
00:13:23
Speaker
And then change your mind. Think about something else. What do we think about? The Bible tells us that whatever is good, whatever is wonderful, whatever is lovely, think on these things.
00:13:37
Speaker
We don't want to grieve the Holy Spirit and commit sins and our by thinking about them. We want to think about things that are pleasant and joyful and happy and not dwell on the things that we should not be thinking about and then not grieve the Holy Spirit.
00:13:58
Speaker
So that is our daily application today.
00:14:03
Speaker
There will be many wise things in all of the Proverbs that we read. We could very easily pick out any one of them and talk about that and have that be our daily application.
00:14:15
Speaker
If you found another part of the Proverbs that we read that really spoke to your heart, I'm really glad that that happened for you. and and And I hope that these Proverbs speak to everybody here.
00:14:28
Speaker
So thank you for joining me today. i hope you enjoyed the Proverbs as we start them. And if you feel that God lit your light,

Closing Remarks and Next Steps

00:14:36
Speaker
then please click that light button. It looks like a heart. It looks like a thumbs up.
00:14:41
Speaker
But it's our light button as we shine with Jesus's light and bring attention to spreading the word about reading God's word so that everybody can know that making God the most important one is the beginning of wisdom.
00:14:57
Speaker
I hope everybody has a great rest of their night and is joyous this Passover season as we remember that Jesus is our sacrificial lamb who died on the cross for our sins because we were slaves to whatever it was that was holding us in our sin.
00:15:16
Speaker
And now he has set us free. And if the Savior has set us free, then we are free indeed. i will see everybody here again tomorrow. It will probably be late because it's a long day. Tomorrow is my Seder meal at the to celebrate the Seder with the for the Passover.
00:15:36
Speaker
So I may not see any everybody until very late tomorrow night. And if I can, then I will try to do it in the morning since I know it will be late. But if not, thank you ahead of time for your grace.
00:15:48
Speaker
I will see everybody tomorrow.
