Welcome to today's reading! We are continuing in the section of Psalms  entitled Songs of Joy today, and BOY, is there a LOT of joy to sing  about today! We will read Psalm 103 and Psalm 104. In Psalm 103 we will  sing about the many beautiful and wonderful characteristics of God and  be thankful that God has shown us how to behave well, because none of us  is born knowing how to do anything at all! Most of all, we will be  thankful for God's forgiveness of our sins- that God does not pay us for  our sins, but FORGIVES us! Thank you, God! In Psalm 104 we will glorify  God in His magnificent wisdom in knowing how to create the world and  give us perfect cycles to live in- times of birth, death, and  restoration. We will glorify God for His love and care of even the  animals of the earth that He created. We all look to God for our food, even the animals!

Exploration of Psalm 103

00:01:26
Speaker
All right, well, let's head on into the Psalms.
00:01:31
Speaker
Today's Psalms were amazing. Oh my gosh, they were so full of joy. i can see why Karen Henley categorized them under songs of joy. This first Psalm was wonderful.
00:01:44
Speaker
Oh, I can't wait to read it. It is entitled, As High as the Sky, and it was written by David, and it is Psalm 103.
00:01:56
Speaker
I say to my soul, cheer for God. Everything in me, praise his holy name. Don't forget the good things he has done.
00:02:07
Speaker
He forgives all your sins. He makes you well from every sickness. He saves your life. He is loving and kind to you.
00:02:19
Speaker
He answers your wishes with good things. When you grow old, you feel young again. You feel strong like the eagle. God does what is right and fair.
00:02:34
Speaker
He is full of love and kindness. He does not get angry quickly. Love flows out of him. He won't always blame us.
00:02:47
Speaker
He won't be angry forever. He doesn't pay us back for our sins, even though that's what should happen. God's love is as high as the sky above the earth.
00:03:02
Speaker
He has moved our sins away from us as far as the east is from the west.
00:03:09
Speaker
God is loving and kind to people who worship Him. He's like a Father who is loving and kind to His children. He remembers that we're made out of dust.
00:03:21
Speaker
His love is always with people who worship Him. He is good to their children's children. Cheer for God, you angels. You are the strong ones who do what he says.
00:03:35
Speaker
Cheer for God, everything, everywhere in his kingdom.
00:03:41
Speaker
Was that not the best song? Oh, I just love that. but There are so many wonderful things about God, and David seems to have covered just about all of them there, didn't he?
00:03:53
Speaker
Oh my gosh. I think my favorite though, because i have been working with forgiveness, is the one that says, he doesn't pay us back for our sins, even though that's what should happen.
00:04:12
Speaker
We love because God first loved us and we forgive because God first forgave us. That's not a verse anywhere, but I like to put into relation all the different things that God does.
00:04:25
Speaker
Everything he does, he did first and he did it to show us how to do things. Nobody was born knowing how to do anything. We are just naturally sinful.
00:04:37
Speaker
We do things the wrong way. God had to show us. He showed us with his son, Jesus. He was telling them how to do things with Moses.
00:04:49
Speaker
And then he he gave us Jesus to show us how to do things. And I'm so thankful because there are so many things that we would not know how to do anything.
00:05:02
Speaker
if God didn't teach us his ways and show us how to be doing things right. Everything God does is right and perfect and fair.
00:05:14
Speaker
And he sees things just right. He sees our hearts. He doesn't see things that we didn't mean. He knows when we are doing something with the right heart and with the wrong heart.
00:05:29
Speaker
And he doesn't pay us back for our sins. Instead, he forgives them. As far as the east is from the west, he has moved our sins away from us.
00:05:44
Speaker
God is loving and kind. He's like a father who is loving and kind to his children. And we do call him our heavenly father, don't we? I love that.
00:05:59
Speaker
Let's go on to the next Psalm.

Exploration of Psalm 104

00:06:01
Speaker
It is quite long, but we only have two Psalms to read today. The second one is Psalm 104, and Karen Henley has entitled it, Earth, Sea, and Moon.
00:06:15
Speaker
The Lord my God is very great. Wonder and greatness are like clothes on him. He wraps himself in light. He rolls out the sky like a tent.
00:06:28
Speaker
He puts his upstairs rooms in the rain clouds. He makes his chariot from clouds. He rides on wings of wind. Winds take his messages.
00:06:41
Speaker
Flames of fire serve him. God put the earth where he wanted it. It can never be moved. The waters were above the mountains, but they rushed away when they heard his thunder.
00:06:55
Speaker
They flowed over the mountains into valleys. They went where God told them to go. He drew a line they cannot cross. They will never cover the earth again.
00:07:11
Speaker
God makes springs of water flow into rivers. They give water to the animals in the field. Wild donkeys drink. Birds make nests by the water.
00:07:24
Speaker
They sing in the tree branches. God waters mountains from his upstairs rooms. He makes grass grow for cows. Food comes up from the earth.
00:07:38
Speaker
Then people can make wine and oil. People can make bread so they'll be strong. God's trees have plenty of water.
00:07:50
Speaker
The stork makes its home in the pine trees. Wild goats live in the high mountains. Badgers hide in the rocks. The moon shows the seasons and the sun knows when to go down.
00:08:05
Speaker
God brings the darkness.
00:08:09
Speaker
Then forest animals come out to look around. Lions roar for food. They look for the food God gives them. When the sun comes up, they creep away.
00:08:22
Speaker
That's when people go off to work and they work until evening.
00:08:28
Speaker
You have made so many things, God.
00:08:32
Speaker
You made them all by your wisdom. The earth and the deep, wide sea are full of living things you make.
00:08:42
Speaker
There are too many to count. There are all kinds of living things. Some are big and some are small. They all look to you, God. They look for food from you when it's time to eat.
00:08:56
Speaker
You open your hand and you give it to them. Then they are full. But when you hide your face, they are afraid. When you take their breath away, they die and turn into dust again.
00:09:12
Speaker
When you send your spirit, new life begins. You make things on the earth new. May God's greatness last forever.
00:09:24
Speaker
May God show his joy when he sees what he has made. He looks at the earth and it shakes. He touches mountains and they smoke.
00:09:35
Speaker
I will sing to God all my life. Cheer for God, my soul. Praise God.
00:09:45
Speaker
That was a long one. That covered pretty much everything that God made there, didn't it? Earth, sea, and moon, that one was called. I'm not sure I would have called it that, but... Because it covered everything.
00:10:01
Speaker
More than, well, I see why they called it the earth, the sea, and the moon. It covered everything from the earth and the sea, and it talked about the moon, too.
00:10:11
Speaker
I love these songs because they are praising God. These are songs of joy. says, my lord the Lord my God is very great. And then it goes on to talk about all the many things that they could think about.
00:10:26
Speaker
And this was a song. It is a song. We just don't know the music for it.
00:10:35
Speaker
This teaches us to be appreciative of all the many things that God has made. God spoke everything into existence. And it even made reference to the great flood. Did you see the reference to the great flood in there?
00:10:52
Speaker
It says, the God put the earth where he wanted it. It can never be moved. The waters were above the mountains, but they rushed away when they heard his thunder.
00:11:05
Speaker
They flowed over the mountains into valleys. They went where God told them to go. He drew a line they cannot cross and they will never cover the earth again.
00:11:21
Speaker
I think that was talking about the flood. It could have also been talking about when God separated the this sky, um the waters above from the waters below and that he made land and he made the seas.
00:11:34
Speaker
But sometimes the seas, we've had global floodings where, um like the Ice Age, where the waters were different then. But that's why I thought that it was talking about the ah flood, that they will never cover the Earth again.
00:11:52
Speaker
There are just so many things. It's just, it talks all about God's great creation and all of the many ways that things work together with how the sun comes out and the people go to work.
00:12:04
Speaker
I love that. It was just like we could apply that today. When the sun comes out, the people go to work. When the sun goes down, the wild animals come out and they look for food.
00:12:15
Speaker
ah Some animals are awake during the day and some people are awake during the night. But for the most part, people are awake during the daytime and we go to work.
00:12:27
Speaker
It says, you have made so many things, God, and you made them all by your wisdom. God understands how everything works together. We have so many fields of science where we are trying to learn about how everything works.
00:12:42
Speaker
And nobody knows everything. We are still learning. But God knew all of it. And he worked it all together and spoke everything into creation.
00:12:55
Speaker
Isn't that amazing? i love that. And everything looks to you, God. They look for food when it's time to eat. And God opens up his hand and feeds them just like he feeds us.
00:13:13
Speaker
And everything in life has its time. Even the animals die and return to dust. And gods it says that God's spirit, when you send your spirit, new life begins.
00:13:28
Speaker
And you make things on the earth new. We have years of where it is summertime, and then it is fall, and then it is winter, and then it is spring.
00:13:42
Speaker
And every year it's the same seasons over and over in there in their order. And things are ah the earth rests during the wintertime, and new life begins in the springtime. And that's what it's talking about is how everything is on a cycle.
00:14:01
Speaker
God takes care of everything in its time. I love that.
00:14:08
Speaker
I will sing to God all my life. I hope you sing for God all your life too. Cheer for God, our souls. Let's praise God.
