April 7, 2025 Daily Reading- Read the Bible in 1 Year

Daily Bible Reading with Robin at In the Family Way Coaching (Audio only)

7 Plays14 days ago

Today we are beginning 1Kings chapter 1. We will read about Adonijah  trying to make himself king, instead of Solomon. We will see Solomon be  annointed as the new king and immediately start making Godly, wise  decisions. In our discussion today we will talk about giving people the  opportunity to show themselves as being good, rather than acting hastily  and trying to judge them, even when they do something wrong to us, the  way Solomon did with his brother, checking to see if his brother was  going to be good or bad, and releasing him to go home when Adonijah  submitted to Solomon's authority and position as the King of Israel.

If you would like to join me LIVE for the daily reading you can register  to attend the event on my site, here:  https://www.inthefamilywaycoaching.com/schedule

Introduction and Overview

00:00:03
Speaker
Happy April 7th everybody! You are here with Robin at In the Family Way Coaching and we're here for our daily Bible reading. We are reading through the Bible this year and we are using the Day by Day Kids Bible which has been written by Karen Henley.
00:00:18
Speaker
This is a great Bible that gives us the big story from Genesis through Revelation and I am loving it.

Getting Started with the Reading

00:00:24
Speaker
Today we're going to start our reading with Solomon. But before we do that, it's time to get out those calendars if you are keeping track of your daily reading.
00:00:33
Speaker
And it's time to get that out and mark it off because you're about to hear the Bible today. I have my sticker on there today.
00:00:42
Speaker
If you are interested in having your own calendar and you are new with us, you may not know that I have a daily calendar available for you to download on my website.

Participation Gifts and Criteria

00:00:51
Speaker
It is absolutely free and you can find that at
00:01:00

and it's under the tab of Read the Bible in One Year. Even if you just need a calendar for the refrigerator, it's totally cool. Go ahead and hit that download and take that with you. Stick it up wherever you need it.
00:01:12
Speaker
If you are interested in supporting this event, then I will also send you a copy of that calendar and it's printed on this lovely beige sugar cane paper. If you can see that it's a little beige-ish.
00:01:24
Speaker
It's a very nice feeling paper and there are no trees involved. And since it's a pretty beige color, there is no bleach going into our environment. So that would be my gift to you is to send you a copy of that calendar along with a set of stickers for the month.
00:01:38
Speaker
so that you can mark off your daily commitment too. And it's these gold foil crosses that I have here that I've been using on my calendar. It wouldn't be an entire sheet, that's a lot of stickers. It would be just enough for the month so that you don't have an overabundance of stickers.
00:01:52
Speaker
And then if you are participating each day, I will have a participation gift for you at the end of the month as well, which is also part of my thank you back to you. That is available for anybody who wishes to participate. You don't have to ah support the event in order to be part of my participation gift, just so you know.
00:02:12
Speaker
It's not a supporting gift. It's a so it's a participation gift. So if you are interested in ah participating on a regular basis and and communing with me, letting me know that you are participating, then I will send you that gift at the end of the month.

Reading from 1 Kings

00:03:54
Speaker
So let's get started with our reading today. we are going to begin the book of 1 Kings and we have just finished those beautiful Psalms. I hope that you were able to listen to all of those Psalms and if not, feel free to click back and check on any one of the last episodes in the past two weeks.
00:04:11
Speaker
So that would be about the last bit of March until yesterday, the 6th of April. We have all Psalms for those about two and a half weeks.
00:04:23
Speaker
So our first chapter we are going to be reading today is 1 Kings chapter 1, and it is entitled, Who Will Be the Next King? Now King David was very old, and he stayed cold all the time.
00:04:39
Speaker
He was cold even when he was in bed under the covers. You need somebody to take care of you, said his servants. So let us find a young woman, and she can lie down next to you, and she will keep you warm that way.
00:04:54
Speaker
So they looked all over the land. They found a beautiful woman and they took her to the king. She took care of him, but she was not like his wife.
00:05:06
Speaker
Now David had a son named Adonijah. He was born after Absalom. And Adonijah was handsome. And David never stopped him from doing whatever he wanted.
00:05:19
Speaker
David never asked him, why are you acting that way? And Adonijah said, I'll be the next king. So he got some chariots and horses, and he got 50 men to run in front of him.
00:05:35
Speaker
Adonijah talked with Joab, the army leader. He talked with a priest, and they agreed to help him become the next king. But another priest, whose name was Zadok, did not go along with Adonijah.
00:05:49
Speaker
The prophet named Nathan did not go along with him either. And Adonijah offered gifts to God at a big stone altar. He asked his brothers to come.
00:06:01
Speaker
They were King David's sons, but he did not ask Nathan or his brother Solomon to come. Now Bathsheba was Solomon's mother.
00:06:12
Speaker
Nathan went to go see her. Did you know that Adonijah is saying he is the king? Nathan asked. David doesn't know it. I'll tell you how you can save your life, and you can save Solomon's life too.
00:06:28
Speaker
Go to King David, said Nathan. Ask him if he said Solomon would be king. If he did, ask why Adonijah is saying he is the king.
00:06:41
Speaker
I will come and see David while you're there, said Nathan. I'll tell him that what you say is true. So Bathsheba went to the king's room. The young woman was taking care of him.
00:06:52
Speaker
Bathsheba bowed in front of him. What do you want? asked David. You promised that Solomon would be king, she said. But Adonijah is saying he is the king now.
00:07:06
Speaker
He has offered gifts to God. He asked all your sons to come. But he did not ask Solomon to come. Everybody is waiting for you to say who the next king will be.
00:07:18
Speaker
If you don't, Solomon will be in trouble when you die. Adonijah will be mean to Solomon and to me. Then Nathan got there. He went in and bowed down to David.
00:07:31
Speaker
Did you tell Adonijah he could be king? asked Nathan. Today he offered gifts on the altar. He asked your sons to come, but he didn't ask Solomon.
00:07:43
Speaker
And he didn't ask me. Did this happen because you didn't say who would be the next king?
00:07:50
Speaker
Tell Bathsheba to come here, said David. So Bathsheba came back. I promise I'll do what I said I'd do, said David. Solomon will be the next king.
00:08:04
Speaker
Then David said, Tell Zadok to come here. So Zadok came and David said, take Solomon, let him ride my mule, blow the horns and shout, long live King Solomon.
00:08:19
Speaker
Then let him sit on my throne. He can rule as king instead of me. I choose him to be the king of God's people. So Zadok and Nathan took Solomon.
00:08:31
Speaker
They let him ride King David's mule. Sadog poured oil on Solomon's head, and this showed that God wanted Solomon to be the next king. Then they called out, Long live King Solomon!
00:08:47
Speaker
All the people came behind them. Some played flutes, and they showed their joy. Their noise shook the ground. Now Adonijah and his friends heard the sound.
00:09:00
Speaker
Joab, the army leader, heard the horns. What does that mean? asked. Just then a man came in. Oh, you're a good man, so you must be bringing good news, said Adonijah.
00:09:13
Speaker
ah No, said the man. David made Solomon the king. Zadok and Nathan are with him. They put oil on him, showing that God wants him to be king.
00:09:26
Speaker
People are shouting with joy, and that is what all this noise is about. What's more, Solomon is sitting on David's throne, said the man.
00:09:37
Speaker
All the leaders said they hope God makes Solomon even greater than David. Then King David worshipped God as he lay in bed, and he praised God for letting him see the next king.
00:09:53
Speaker
Now Adonijah's friends were scared. They got up and left. Adonijah was afraid of Solomon too.

Solomon's Wisdom and Lessons

00:10:00
Speaker
He went to the altar in the worship tent. Someone told Solomon, Adonijah is afraid of you.
00:10:07
Speaker
He is at the altar. He is asking God to make you promise me not to kill him.
00:10:13
Speaker
Solomon said, If Adonijah is a good man, then he won't die. But if he is a bad man, he will die. Solomon sent some men to the altar and they brought Adonijah back.
00:10:28
Speaker
Adonijah bowed low in front of Solomon. Solomon did not hurt Adonijah. Solomon just said, go home. And that's the end of our first chapter today in 1 Kings.
00:10:47
Speaker
A long time ago, David had ah committed a sin by ordering... um account made of all of the men that he had in the army.
00:11:00
Speaker
And actually, though oh no, it was before that. Oh my gosh, I can't remember the exact event. I think it might have been when when when he had taken Bathsheba as his wife.
00:11:14
Speaker
At some point, God... said that there would be fighting in David's household. And this is another example of how David's sons were fighting to be king.
00:11:26
Speaker
We saw Absalom try to be king and take over from David. And now we see Adonijah trying to do the same thing. Before David is even dead, he's trying to proclaim himself the king.
00:11:37
Speaker
And he stepped down right away because we know that David had already said that Solomon would be the next king. And God had told him that Solomon would be the one to build a temple for him.
00:11:50
Speaker
So we see that ah David will do the right thing here. And we see that Solomon already is going to judge justly.
00:12:02
Speaker
He's not going to assume that he that his brother is out to kill him. and trying to usurp, take the crown or take the kingship away from him.
00:12:13
Speaker
He did try to do that, but now that Solomon has been set up as king, Solomon was waiting to see whether Adonijah would submit to him as being king or whether he was not going to submit.
00:12:28
Speaker
And so we see that that is our daily application is that we should not rush into judgment even when somebody has tried to plan wrong against us. Is that we look instead to see if people are willing to back up when the right, when the truth comes out and and it's not our place to judge, to take, ah to extract revenge.
00:12:52
Speaker
That is God's job. is to take care of people. And so we see already in Solomon's first moment of being king, he is already ruling with wisdom by making thoughtful decision rather than being hasty.
00:13:09
Speaker
And so that is our daily application to be to today that is that As things occur in our life today and in every day, let's not be hasty to hurry and to make judgment and decision, but to instead give people an opportunity to to show good.
00:13:32
Speaker
He said, if Adonijah is a good man, then he will live. And if he is a bad man, then he will die. Let's give people the opportunity to show that they are good.
00:13:43
Speaker
And that is our big application today. And he forgave his brother, which is also an application for us today, is that he is showing forgiveness by not just simply killing him and saying, you caused me trouble.
00:13:56
Speaker
I'm done with you. And he did not cut him off.
00:14:02
Speaker
So that is our daily application. So thank you for joining me here today. We had a pretty quick reading today as we opened up into a new section of reading about King Solomon.
00:14:13
Speaker
King Solomon is going to prove to be very wise because he asks God for more wisdom. And he is just a young man here. And so there is a lot to see more about Solomon and I'm excited to get to it.
00:14:26
Speaker
So I hope you will join with me again tomorrow and we'll see what happens next. And if you feel that God has lit your light to- today, then please click that light button at the end after watching or listening so that we can light up this event for other people and that they too can be encouraged to see how God's word is applicable in their lives every single day.
00:14:48
Speaker
No matter what we read, there is something for us to learn and take and use in our own lives every single day. Because the word of God is living and it doesn't change just because it is thousands of years old.
00:15:00
Speaker
God's word will continue for forever. And so if you feel that God has lit that light, please click that light button and let's help spread the word about reading God's word. I hope everybody has a great rest of their April 7th.
00:15:13
Speaker
See you tomorrow.
