Welcome to our Passover weekend reading, everyone! We are continuing our  reading in the book of Proverbs. We will read many proverbs about being  trained to do what is right and about right and wrong. In our discussion today we will talk about God is our heavenly Father and He teaches us how to live right. He gave us physical examples by sending His son, Jesus, to teach us how to live, as well as sent us parents to teach us about right and wrong because no one is born knowing how to do ANYTHING! We will talk about God's loving faithfulness to always forgive us when we come to Him with confession about things we have done wrong and how we have so much to be grateful for this holiday season with the way God saved us, both with the Passover celebration this weekend and the remembrance of Jesus paying for our sins with his death.

Introduction to Daily Bible Reading

00:00:02
Speaker
Hello everybody, welcome to Sunday, April 13th, 2025. You are here with Robin at In the Family Way Coaching, and we are here for our daily Bible reading. We are reading through the Bible this year using the Day by Day Kids Bible, which has been written by Karen Henley.
00:00:19
Speaker
If you are just finding us in this event, please don't be discouraged by the fact that this says it's a kid's Bible. This just means that it's a very easy to understand storybook version of the Bible, and it's in chronological order.
00:00:34
Speaker
What that means is that the big story from Genesis to Revelation is given in chronological order in one timeline, whereas sometimes in the Bible events are recorded in more than one book, and so it can be confusing as to what happened when.

Reading Plan Overview

00:00:50
Speaker
This gives us one continuous story, drawing from all of the books to get all of the details into one story. That doesn't mean we have all of the details from every story because this is the big story versus every single story with every detail in the Bible.
00:01:08
Speaker
So this just gives us the big story. And we are reading it this year and we will be taking the entire year to do it. This Bible is set up wonderfully like a devotional Bible where each day's reading is set out in its in his calendar day.
00:01:25
Speaker
So today, for instance, we have been in the Proverbs and we will be continuing with the Proverbs. If you have been around for a little while, then you may be following along with your calendar to mark off your daily commitment to listen to the Bible this year.
00:01:40
Speaker
And if you are, it's time to get that calendar out and get your sticker on there because you're about to hear the Bible today. If you have downloaded the calendar, you may have a different way to mark off your calendar. And however you are using to do that, that is great. It doesn't have to be with these stickers here.

00:03:31
Speaker
So let's head into our selection of reading for the day.

Proverbs: Wisdom for Life

00:03:35
Speaker
We are reading the Proverbs. Yesterday, as I read each proverb, I gave you the name ah or the number of the proverb, and felt like it was a little tedious.
00:03:47
Speaker
And so today I'm going to try just reading it reading it through without giving you each list of every single proverb. I read it that way this morning as I was reading it to myself, and it seemed like it really flowed.
00:04:02
Speaker
Karen Henley has done such a beautiful job of arrangement for these that it almost reads like it's it's its own like each section is its own chapter. I was really impressed, and so it caused me to wonder if ah the previous day would have also read well.
00:04:18
Speaker
I didn't feel like it did yesterday, but today i feel like it did. So I'm going to go ahead and read them in one big block as though it were a chapter.
00:04:30
Speaker
Our first section is entitled, Being Trained to Do What's Right.
00:04:38
Speaker
Nations get into trouble when no leaders tell them what's right. But nations win when many leaders say what's right. Your plans will work if you have helpers who tell you what's right.
00:04:51
Speaker
Find people to guide you if you're going to war. People who are wise have lots of power. People who know a lot get stronger and stronger.
00:05:05
Speaker
Don't be mad when God shows you you're wrong. God shows these things to people he loves. He is like a father showing his children what's right and wrong.
00:05:20
Speaker
Listen when someone shows you what's right. That shows you how to live. People who don't listen lead others to do wrong. Let's say you love to be shown what's right.
00:05:34
Speaker
Then you love knowing. But let's say you hate to be shown what's right. That's dumb. Some people don't listen when they're told they're wrong.
00:05:47
Speaker
They grow poor and feel like nothing. Some people listen when they're told they're wrong, and then others treat them like they are important.
00:05:59
Speaker
Some people don't correct their children for doing what's wrong. They show that they don't love their children. Some people show their children what's right and wrong.
00:06:10
Speaker
They show that they love their children. Show your children how to do right, not wrong. Then there's hope for them. Teach your children the right way to live.
00:06:25
Speaker
Then they will live that way when they grow older. Make sure that your children get into trouble when they do wrong. It may save them from bigger trouble later on.
00:06:40
Speaker
A child who is corrected for doing wrong becomes wise. But a child who is not corrected makes his mother look bad.
00:06:51
Speaker
Show your children how to do right, not wrong. Then they will bring you peace and they will make you happy.
00:07:03
Speaker
Proverbs about right and wrong.
00:07:06
Speaker
We feel happy when we remember people who do right. but bad people's names seem to rot away.
00:07:16
Speaker
The pay for people who do right is life. The pay for people who sin is trouble.
00:07:26
Speaker
People who do right can look forward to joy, but a sinful person can look forward to nothing.
00:07:36
Speaker
The right ways of good people save them. but the bad ways of people trap but the bad ways of bad people trap them.
00:07:46
Speaker
When bad people die, their hope is gone. Their power didn't get them anywhere. God saves people who do right. He lets trouble come to people who sin.
00:08:01
Speaker
God is happy to help good people, but God judges people who plan bad things. People cheer for others who are wise, but they hate people who think wrong things.
00:08:16
Speaker
People who please God by doing right are like bright, shining lights, but bad people are like burned out lights.
00:08:27
Speaker
Trouble chases after bad people, but good things come to godly people.
00:08:34
Speaker
People who do right make their nation great. but sinful people make a nation look bad.
00:08:44
Speaker
Bad things may happen to people who do right, times and but in the end, the people will still be strong.
00:08:55
Speaker
Trouble tears down people who do wrong.
00:09:01
Speaker
Everybody is glad when people who do what's right win. People hide when bad people get power.
00:09:11
Speaker
Sin grows when bad people win. After a while, the bad people will lose. People who please God by doing right will see it happen.
00:09:24
Speaker
People who do right don't like bad people. Bad people don't like people who do right.
00:09:33
Speaker
Fools laugh at the thought of saying they're sorry. but people who do right want the best for others.
00:09:41
Speaker
Good things don't come to people who hide their sin. Kind love comes to people who say they're sorry. That's the end of our Proverbs today.
00:09:55
Speaker
Do you remember who wrote the Proverbs? Solomon, that's right. And Solomon was very what? Wise, that's right.
00:10:10
Speaker
I like our first section of being trained to do what's right. My dad always used to tell me, nobody is born knowing how to do anything. So we have to learn.
00:10:21
Speaker
Being trained is to another word for learning or teaching. Being taught how to do what's right. It means to do something over and over again.
00:10:31
Speaker
When you train, it takes more than once of doing something. We don't just learn by doing something one time. We have to do it over and over. And that's why it's a good thing when God gives us lessons to learn over and over.
00:10:47
Speaker
He is training us to do what is right.

Lessons from Jesus and Easter Reflections

00:10:52
Speaker
So let's talk about, for our daily application,
00:10:58
Speaker
the fact that we are God's children. And God shows us how to do things right by sending us Jesus. Jesus is the best example we have for how to do right.
00:11:11
Speaker
And he gave us a lot of good examples to live by. And in that same way, God shows us that he loves us by sending Jesus to teach us how to do things.
00:11:22
Speaker
Just like how the proverb says, to show your children how to do right and not wrong. then there is hope for them. And while it might not seem like it's fun to get in trouble for doing things that are wrong, it teaches you to be concerned about doing things that are wrong because it can keep you from doing even worse things in the future.
00:11:44
Speaker
And that's what it means by make sure your children get into trouble when they do wrong. It may save them from bigger trouble later on.
00:11:57
Speaker
I really like the one in the next section about right and wrong that says that bad things may happen to people who do right. And these things may happen seven times, but in the end, the people will still be strong.
00:12:14
Speaker
Trouble tears down people who do wrong. And we've talked before about how God works good into everything. And so it may seem like what we are going through is difficult and is trouble.
00:12:27
Speaker
But God works everything into good, even things that look supposedly bad. And so for people who are not looking for God's goodness to come, trouble will tear them down.
00:12:42
Speaker
Whereas people who are looking for the good that God has and trust in him and have faith in him that he is working good, it is much easier to get through very difficult times. see.
00:13:07
Speaker
I like the one that talks about fools laugh at the thought of saying they're sorry, but people who do what's right once the bets want the best for others. When we do something wrong, we need to come to God and tell him the truth.
00:13:24
Speaker
We've talked a little bit about forgiveness and how we need to um
00:13:31
Speaker
confess. There we go. I was drawing a blank on the word there. we need to confess and that just means to tell the truth. And when we tell God the truth, he is faithful to forgive us.
00:13:44
Speaker
And if you find that we you have done something to someone else, you can confess the truth to them and saying, I'm sorry is a good thing to them too. And then we can ask for their forgiveness at times when we have done something wrong.
00:14:01
Speaker
Good things don't come to people who hide their sin.
00:14:06
Speaker
When we hide our sin, it separates us from God. And that's why we need to confess our sins. We talked a little bit about that a couple of weeks ago, I think.
00:14:18
Speaker
And we talked about that when you keep it, when David was ah writing the Psalm, he said that he when he kept his sin a secret from God, it made him very sad inside. And that's what sin does when we keep it hidden.
00:14:35
Speaker
But when we confess our sin to God, no matter how young or how old we are then confessing means to tell the truth. And then God is faithful to forgive us of our sins.
00:14:47
Speaker
And it says kind love comes to people who say they're sorry. We've talked about that saying you're sorry is not the same as confession of telling the truth, but God sends his kind love to us by forgiving us when we are faithful to ask ah to confess our sins.
00:15:07
Speaker
And we have seen God's faithfulness and forgiveness of our sins many times. And that's the beautiful thing about this season too, is it reminds us that we have good Friday coming up.
00:15:18
Speaker
And right now we are in Passover for the Passover season. And then next weekend we have Easter where we commemorate Jesus dying for our sins and then rising again in three days.
00:15:33
Speaker
And he did that so that we could be reconciled with God.
00:15:40
Speaker
Every part of these proverbs is useful for teaching, and we could very well pick any one of these as our daily application. And it may be that you heard one today that just really spoke to your heart.
00:15:51
Speaker
It may be different from the ones that I talked about, but whichever one you found was really useful for you. If you found that you God lit your light today by reading these Proverbs and spoke to you, then please remember to click that light button at the end of watching or listening.
