Today we will be reading 1 Kings Chapters 5-7, and 2 Chronicles Chapters  2-4. We will read about King Solomon making a deal with Hiram, king of  Tyre, for materials and a special worker to help him build the worship  house for God. In our discussion today we will remember that King David  was given the plans for building the worship house by God and the land  where it was to be built was bought by King David, as well as the  gathering of many materials to help build it. We will remember that  Davide wanted to build the worship house but God told him no, it would  be built by Solomon. In our discussion today we will talk about how  Solomon obeyed God and immediately began building the worship house for God. Our daily application today is obedience for the work that God has  set up for us to do. Solomon was aware that he would be responsible for  building the worship house for God. He was not yet king at the time the responsibility was given to him, but when the time was right for him to do it, he did it! May we also obey God and do the work that He has  set out for us to do when the time comes and ask Him what He has planned for us to do TODAY, then DO IT!

00:00:02
Speaker
Hello everybody, today is April 9th, 2025, and you are here with Robin and Scooby at In the Family Way Coaching, and we're here for our daily Bible reading.
00:00:15
Speaker
We are reading through the Bible this year, and we are using the Day by Day Kids Bible, which has been written by Karen Henley.
00:00:24
Speaker
And there goes Scooby. I'm glad he made his cameo appearance, aren't you? And if you are following along with your daily calendar, it's time to get that out because you're about to hear the Bible today.
00:00:37
Speaker
I have my sticker on there.

Importance of Participation

00:00:40
Speaker
And no matter how you are marking off your calendar, I hope that you are encouraged by seeing all of your marks on there for all of the issues, the episodes that you have been listening to.
00:00:49
Speaker
It doesn't matter if you listen to it on that day. You put that sticker on there or mark off your calendar for whichever day you happen to listen. Because what's important is that you participated and that you you listen to the entry.
00:01:04
Speaker
Well, we are going to go ahead and get

Solomon's Construction Projects

00:01:06
Speaker
started. We are reading about Solomon and I am in a massive hurry today. So forgive me for being a little bit rushed today.
00:01:15
Speaker
Today we are going to be reading from 1 Kings chapter 5, 6 and 7 and 2 Chronicles chapters 2, 3 and 4. And we are going to be reading the first section, which is entitled King Hiram Helps.
00:01:31
Speaker
in Solomon told men to start building a worship house. He also told them to build a palace for him. King Hiram from Tyre heard that Solomon was now king of Israel, so he sent some men to see Solomon.
00:01:47
Speaker
Hiram had always been King David's friend, and now he wanted to be friends with Solomon.
00:01:55
Speaker
Solomon sent a message back to Hiram. It said, My father David could not build a worship house. and That's because he had to fight the enemy so much. But now we don't have any more enemies, so I am going to build a worship house.
00:02:11
Speaker
You sent cedar logs to David for his palace, said Solomon. Now please send cedar logs for building a worship house. It's going to be a great house.
00:02:23
Speaker
Our God is greater than any other God. Our God, people really can't build a house good enough for him. But this worship house will be a place to pray.
00:02:41
Speaker
i missed a line there. People can't really build a house good enough for him. Even the heavens can't hold him. But this worship house will be a place to pray. And it will be a place to offer our gifts to God.

The Agreement with Hiram

00:02:55
Speaker
"'Send someone who can work with gold and silver,' said Solomon. "'Send someone who can work with metals. "'Send someone who can work with red, purple, and blue yarn. "'Send someone who can draw pictures on wood and metal.
00:03:11
Speaker
"'They can work here with my workers. "'Send me some logs from different kinds of trees,' said Solomon. "'I know your men can cut logs very well.
00:03:22
Speaker
"'I can send men to help your workers.' I want enough logs to build a large worship house. I'll give your workers wheat, barley, wine, and olive oil.
00:03:36
Speaker
King Hiram wrote back to Solomon and he said, God loves your people. So he has made you their king. Praise God. He made the earth and sky.
00:03:49
Speaker
He made you to be King David's wise son and you will build the worship house. I'm sending a good worker to you," said King Hiram.
00:03:59
Speaker
He knows how to work with silver and gold. He can work with metals and yarn. He can draw pictures on wood and metal. He can make any kind of picture you want.
00:04:11
Speaker
He will work with your workers. So send the wheat and barley, said King Hiram, and send the olive oil and wine, and then we will cut the logs you want.
00:04:23
Speaker
We'll put them on flat boats. We'll send them down to you on the sea." So Hiram and Solomon made the deal. The two kings became friends.
00:04:36
Speaker
Every year Hiram sent wood to Solomon. And Solomon sent wheat, barley, oil, and wine to Hiram. Solomon got 30,000 thousand men They took turns going to Hiram's land to help work.
00:04:53
Speaker
They would work on Hiram's land for a month, then they would work at home for two months.

Completion of the Worship House

00:05:01
Speaker
The Worship House Solomon began building the worship house. He built it on Moriah Mountain. That's where David had seen an angel.
00:05:13
Speaker
David had bought a farmer's workplace there too. The main room in the worship house was covered with gold.
00:05:23
Speaker
There were pictures of palm trees and chains on the gold. Beautiful stones were in it. The tops of the rooms and the doors were gold.
00:05:36
Speaker
Even the nails were gold. The inside of the worship house was cedar wood. There were narrow windows and there were rooms on the sides. At the back of the worship house was a special room.
00:05:51
Speaker
It was called the Most Holy Place. That was where God's art box would stay.
00:05:59
Speaker
Two tall figures were made for this room. They were heavenly beings, about 15 feet tall. They were made of olive wood. Their wings were opened out.
00:06:12
Speaker
The wing of one figure touched one wall. The wing of the other figure touched the other wall. The wood figures were covered with gold. There were pictures on the worship house walls.
00:06:27
Speaker
There were pictures of heavenly beings, palm trees, and flowers. King Hiram's worker came to work for Solomon. He was special worker.
00:06:40
Speaker
he He could make beautiful things from metal. He made big, tall posts for the worship house. He made a big metal altar shaped like a box.
00:06:54
Speaker
He made a huge round bowl for priests to wash in. it held about gallons water. It was called the sea. He made figures 12 bulls.
00:07:06
Speaker
it was called the sea he made twelve he made figures of twelve bulls The sea sat across their backs. Then the special worker made 10 other bowls with stands.
00:07:21
Speaker
They were smaller than the sea, but they were still big. Each one held about 230 gallons of water. The sea and the 10 bowls were put in a big yard.
00:07:35
Speaker
There were several yards around the worship house. There was a gold altar inside the worship house. There was a gold table. There were ten gold lamps on stands.
00:07:49
Speaker
There were other gold lamps, tables, bowls, and dishes. King Solomon made sure all the work was done well. It took seven years to build the worship house, but at last it was finished.
00:08:08
Speaker
And that's the end of our reading today.

David's Preparations and Legacy

00:08:13
Speaker
Before we started the Psalms and when David ah knew that he was not going to be able to build the worship house, God gave him the plans for how he wanted the worship house to be made.
00:08:28
Speaker
And I should have probably had that ready. ah but I was thinking about that earlier, that that was that those plans God had given him.
00:08:37
Speaker
Let's see here.
00:08:41
Speaker
It was quite a ways back.
00:08:48
Speaker
But either way, ah David had wanted to build the worship house. And God said, no, you've killed too many people in battle. It will not be for you to build.
00:08:59
Speaker
It will be for your son Solomon to build because the time that he reigns will be a time of peace. So Solomon already knew that he was going to be building the worship house.
00:09:10
Speaker
And David gathered a lot of materials and said that he would have wood and metal and gold and workers and the plans and whatever else he needed, as well as other things.
00:09:22
Speaker
And so these things were given to Solomon. And today we see Solomon gathering ah additional materials so that he can build it, and ah specifically a worker, not so much the materials.
00:09:35
Speaker
The wood, of course, would need to be fresh. So he made an arrangement with Hiram. And so our...

Lessons from Solomon's Story

00:09:43
Speaker
Main application for today, where this is applicable for us today, is what we see is Solomon's obedience.
00:09:53
Speaker
As soon as he was king, one of the first things he started to do was to build that worship house. He built it to the specs, that's the design that God gave his father, King David, and he was doing exactly what God told him to do.
00:10:10
Speaker
And this was a big project. And it wasn't something that he could start right away because he wasn't king right away. But his father, King David, had given him a good start for it and had set him up for success.
00:10:25
Speaker
And that's what parents do for our children. We do our best to set you up for success for the job that God has for you to do. But when the time comes for you to do the job that God has planned for you to do,
00:10:39
Speaker
It's you who has to obey. It doesn't matter if you feel that you have been set up or not set up for success. When God gives us work to do, he is the one who will help you make sure that it gets done.
00:10:51
Speaker
And God provided a friend in Hiram to provide the seizure logs and the additional workers that would be needed. And it took um working together, teamwork,
00:11:04
Speaker
And so so King Solomon didn't do it all by himself. He didn't build it himself. He had his people and he made an alliance, an agreement with Hiram. And then everybody worked together and it took seven long years, but he did it.
00:11:20
Speaker
And so I hope whatever at work it is that God has given you, ask God what work he has planned for you today. It can be small things, and but those small things add up to big things.
00:11:31
Speaker
And they will help build your who you are. And they are part of what God has designed for you every single day. And so I pray that you will see what God has planned

Conclusion and Listener Engagement

00:11:41
Speaker
for you today. And that like Solomon, you will obey whatever God gives you to do today.
00:11:47
Speaker
you know I am looking for what God has planned for me today. And I will be looking for my opportunities to obey as well. So thank you for joining me today, whether you are listening on your favorite podcasting app or whether you are following along on video. I'm so glad that you are here today.
00:12:04
Speaker

00:12:23
Speaker
