Today we are continuing our reading through the section of Psalms  entitled Songs About Good and Bad. It can difficult to see people who  seem to "have it all" not care about God's ways and get away with whatever they are doing. It can tempt us to want to be like them. Today we will read Psalm 50, Psalm 73, and Psalm 73 and discuss that where our hearts are, there are treasure will be, also. We will talk about Jesus teaching us not to build treasures on Earth, where rust and moth  destroy, but to instead build treasure in heaven! We will be encouraged by the fact that no amount of money can save us, but Jesus alone saved us from our sins and His gift of salvation is absolutely FREE for us! No riches can buy it!

Hi, everybody.

Introduction to Daily Bible Reading Event

00:00:04
Speaker
it is Thursday, March 27th, 2025, and you're here with Robin at In the Family Way Coaching. We are here for our daily Bible reading using the Day by Day Kids Bible, which has been written by Karen Henley.
00:00:21
Speaker
If you are just joining me for this event and just finding this somewhere, either on a video or via your favorite podcasting app, I want to welcome you. Thank you so much for joining me.
00:00:32
Speaker
Don't be discouraged that this is a kid's Bible that we are reading. This just means that it is an easy to understand version of the Bible that is the big story from Genesis through Revelation, and it is in chronological order.
00:00:48
Speaker
The stories don't skip around, and there's only one telling of each story so that we don't get confused by reading the same event in multiple books. This is a great version of the Bible, and one of the things that I really love doing with this ah event is talking about how every single day God can use the day's reading in our daily lives.

Personal Testimonies and Listener Engagement

00:01:11
Speaker
and We are going through the Psalms right now, and I've been giving examples of how I've been dealing with my refrigerator, and God has been there with me in my in the Psalms for me. So thank you for finding me, whether you are listening via your favorite podcasting app or whether you're watching on a video such as YouTube or Spotify or TikTok, or if you're on my site.
00:01:33
Speaker
I'm so glad that you have been led to this event, and I'm so glad that you're joining me. I hope that you stick around because we're going to do this every day 2025.
00:01:42
Speaker
If you have been here for a little bit, then you have your calendar. So go ahead and take that out. Especially you, Pearl and Diamond and Jedi and Forest.
00:01:53
Speaker
I know you've got your calendars out. Let's get that sticker on there because you're about to hear the Bible today. I have my sticker on there today. We have only four more days to go and we are done with the month.
00:02:07
Speaker
Boy, this is going to be a really fast year. i don't know about for you, but this event is just flying by for me. And I know we're only three months in, but it seems like we might have a long way to go. But look how fast it is going.
00:02:20
Speaker
At least it feels that way to me. And I know not everybody has the opportunity to do this every day, but I'm here for you every single day. And I have never read the Bible every single day for a year. So this is really good for me, too.
00:02:35
Speaker
I'm really glad to do this. It's a ah big challenge for me because even like today where it's 930 p.m. my time, I'm still going to do it and make sure I get this out there for you. So thank you so much for tuning in and listening, watching and being here every day.
00:02:53
Speaker
We are going to head up into

Contrasting Lives in Psalms

00:02:55
Speaker
the Psalms. If you don't know or don't remember, we are in the section that's called Songs About Good and Bad. So what this is doing is this is contrasting the difference between being somebody who follows God and somebody who isn't.
00:03:09
Speaker
That's what that means. Songs about good and bad. So we are looking at the difference in how it looks like sinful people, people who don't believe in God or ah people who are just...
00:03:23
Speaker
um not but Well, essentially just people who don't believe, but they they're talking about sinful people, which is just, a we are all sinners, but but it's talking specifically about people who don't follow God.
00:03:37
Speaker
And it can look like people don't do right things and that things just never seem to go bad for them. And we're going to look at that today in the Psalms. But we want to remember that just because it looks like things are going fantastic for people, that doesn't mean that it really isn't.
00:03:54
Speaker
And that doesn't mean that God is not behind the scenes working. We can't see what God is doing. But God is the one who is fair, and he is the one who who judges. And he says that he it is his responsibility.
00:04:09
Speaker
And we know that it is his, not ours. And so we don't want to get caught up in thinking, oh If I just had enough money, if I just was like them.
00:04:20
Speaker
and that's a big thing with social media today is that ah people make it look like everything in their life is absolutely wonderful. Nobody wants to talk about the tough things that they're going through and say that, oh, my life is having a lot of struggles and things like that.
00:04:37
Speaker
And God is always with us in our struggles. So there's nothing wrong with talking about our struggles.

The Value of Heavenly Treasures

00:04:43
Speaker
And that's one of the things that I've been ah sharing with you this year so far is when I have a struggle or when I have something good, where God is using these readings in my life on a daily basis. I want you to be encouraged and know that they are just as applicable for you because I'm just a regular person like you. We're all just regular people.
00:05:05
Speaker
So let's look at the Psalms today. We are going to start with Psalm 49, and this has been written by Korah's family. I don't know who Korah is, but this is who is noted to be the author of of this. And it's not just, I love how it's their family, by Korah's family.
00:05:26
Speaker
And so that means it wasn't written by David, and it was written by a group of people, a family.
00:05:33
Speaker
Wouldn't that be fun, as if as a family we wrote a psalm, a song for God? We can do that.
00:05:43
Speaker
All right. Riches is the title of this psalm, Psalm 49. Listen, everybody, will tell a riddle with my harp.
00:05:54
Speaker
Why should I be afraid of bad days? Why should I be afraid of sinful people? They trust in their riches and no person can save another person. No person can pay God to save them.
00:06:09
Speaker
There's not enough money to buy a life. Money can't help anyone live forever. Wise and foolish men will all die. They'll leave their riches behind.
00:06:21
Speaker
People don't live here forever, even if they are rich. This is what happens to people who trust in themselves. They die, just like sheep do.
00:06:34
Speaker
Their graves will be far away from their houses, but God will save my life. He will take me to be with him. So don't be surprised when people get rich.
00:06:46
Speaker
They won't take anything with them when they die. People may say great things about them, but when they die, it won't matter.
00:06:56
Speaker
I love that one. And you know, I really love how Karen Henley puts this in such an easy to understand way. It's just like regular English. like it's It's just regular, easy to understand words.
00:07:10
Speaker
And the the Psalms are songs, so they were written in Hebrew. And so they have, um you know, poetry in Hebrew as well. But this is our English translation. And even sometimes the English translations, they can be very, ah they they can be a little bit but more difficult to understand at times.
00:07:30
Speaker
But this is so easy to understand. I love it. And isn't it true? Everything in this in God's word is true. I love that. Even the Psalms.
00:07:45
Speaker
Why should we be afraid of people or of bad days? People trust in their riches, but no person can save another person. Now they're not talking about like saving somebody from a fire or saving somebody from from drowning. They're not talking about that. They're talking about salvation.
00:08:04
Speaker
And there's only one person who saved us, and that's Jesus. And you can't buy your way with Jesus. He already bought for us. He paid the price for our sins with his very life, his very blood.
00:08:19
Speaker
And nobody can buy their salvation. He already bought it. And all he has to do is give it to you if you want it. It's a free gift for everybody.
00:08:32
Speaker
has nothing to do with money. It doesn't matter how good we are. We can't be good enough.
00:08:39
Speaker
doesn It doesn't matter. And for people who don't believe, they're they're not saved. And that's what it's talking about here. And it doesn't matter what you accumulate or acquire while you're living because we can't take any of it with us when we go.
00:08:58
Speaker
We don't need to. God already will have everything there for us. But what we can't do is build our treasures up in heaven. are building treasure in heaven.
00:09:10
Speaker
i can't wait to see the kind of treasure that we have in heaven. It will be so much better than anything we could buy down here or however much money we could accumulate down here.
00:09:21
Speaker
The treasures in heaven are going to be amazing. And the Bible tells us that where our heart is, there our treasure will be also. And Jesus tells us to not to put our treasures here on earth where moth and rust destroy, but to build up our treasures in heaven.
00:09:42
Speaker
So let's do that. Let's try and build up our treasures in heaven.
00:09:48
Speaker
All right.

God's True Desires

00:09:50
Speaker
We're going to read the next psalm, and it is Psalm 50 by, i think that's pronounced Asaph. aa And it is entitled, God Shines.
00:10:03
Speaker
God is the Strong One. That's capital S for strong and capital O for one. It's the name that they're giving. God is the Strong One.
00:10:15
Speaker
He is the Lord. He calls the earth from the sunrise to the sunset. God shines from his city Zion. Zion is a place that is good and beautiful.
00:10:30
Speaker
God comes, and he is not quiet. A fire goes before him. a storm roars around him. He calls heaven and earth.
00:10:42
Speaker
He can see who is right and who is wrong. He says, bring me the people who promise to be mine. Hear me, my people, and I'll speak.
00:10:53
Speaker
I am your God. I don't blame you for what you give me, but I don't need bulls from your barns or goats from your pens.
00:11:05
Speaker
Every forest animal is mine. I own the cows on the hills. I know every bird on the mountains. The animals in the field are mine.
00:11:20
Speaker
If I were hungry, I would not tell you. The world and everything in it is mine. Give thanks to me. Keep your promises to me.
00:11:33
Speaker
Call on me when you are in trouble, and I will save you. Then you will show how great I am. But to sinful people, God says, Why do you talk about my rules?
00:11:49
Speaker
You hate my ways and don't obey my words. You help robbers. You go along with foolish people. You use your mouths to say sinful things.
00:12:01
Speaker
You use your voice to lie. I have been quiet, so you think I am just like you. But if you forget God, no one will save you.
00:12:12
Speaker
The people who give thanks show their love for me. They are getting ready for me to save them.
00:12:21
Speaker
And that's the end of Psalm 50. God shines.
00:12:28
Speaker
I love that God doesn't need anything that we offer him. He just wants us to offer ourselves. He says to be thankful for the things that he gives us so that we can tell about the wonderful things that he does. He says, call on me when you are in trouble.
00:12:47
Speaker
So he wants us to come to him. Isn't that comforting? We don't bother God with our requests. We don't bother God when we're upset with things. He wants us to come to him.
00:12:58
Speaker
And when we do, he will save us. And then we will show how great he is because we give him the opportunity to be glorified when we do that.
00:13:10
Speaker
And that way we can tell people, oh, I was having such a difficult time, but God helped me with this. And that's what we want to do and is to glorify God.
00:13:23
Speaker
And to sinful people who like to talk about God's rules, they may say, oh, these rules are outdated. These rules don't apply. They they hate God's ways and they're just not obeying his words.
00:13:37
Speaker
They go along with foolish people and use their mouths to say sinful things. And we use our voices to lie. They use their voices to lie.
00:13:49
Speaker
And just because God is quiet doesn't mean that he is like us. His ways are higher than our ways and his thoughts are higher than our thoughts. And if we forget God, no one will save them.
00:14:03
Speaker
No one will save the people who forget about God. The people who give thanks show their love for God.
00:14:12
Speaker
And I'm ready for God to save me. Are you ready for God to save you when you have difficulties?
00:14:19
Speaker
I like how the beginning of the psalm talks about how when God comes, he is not quiet. It reminded me of when he was on the mountain with Moses and when Moses went up and the fire came down and his voice sounded like thunder.
00:14:34
Speaker
And there are other times that we've read about too, where God's voice spoke very loudly, but to the people who couldn't understand, it just sounded like thunder.
00:14:45
Speaker
So he definitely is ah is a great presence.
00:14:52
Speaker
My feet almost tripped is the name of our last psalm. And it's Psalm 73. And it's also by Asaph or Asaph.

Reflections on Envy and True Security

00:15:00
Speaker
I'm not sure how to pronounce that name. I didn't look it up today.
00:15:05
Speaker
It's true. God is good to his people. He is good to people whose hearts are sinless. But my feet almost tripped. I nearly fell because I wanted to be like the proud people.
00:15:20
Speaker
I saw that sinful people get rich. They are healthy and strong and they don't have problems like most people have. So they wear pride like a gold band around their necks.
00:15:33
Speaker
Their hearts are hard and there's no end to their bad plans. Their voices are full of hate. They wanna boss everyone around and they say that heaven belongs to them.
00:15:46
Speaker
They say the earth is theirs too. People who follow them believe what they say. They say, how could God know? That is what sinful people are like.
00:15:58
Speaker
They don't have any cares. They keep getting rich. So have I kept my heart clean for nothing? I've had trouble every morning.
00:16:11
Speaker
I tried to understand this, but it was hard. It was hard until I talked to God.
00:16:22
Speaker
God, then I knew what would happen to sinful people. God, I know you put their feet on ground they can't stand up on. You will tear them down all of a sudden, and you will wipe them away with fear.
00:16:38
Speaker
You will stand up, God, and then their good life will be just a dream. But I am always with you. You hold my right hand and you lead me.
00:16:50
Speaker
Someday you will take me to greatness. Who else do I have in heaven? Only you. And all I want on earth is you.
00:17:03
Speaker
My body and my heart may get sick, but God makes my heart strong. He is mine forever. It's good to be near God. That's where I go to be safe.
00:17:16
Speaker
God, I will tell about the things you do.
00:17:23
Speaker
I love these Psalms. They are so awesome.

Timelessness of Psalms' Messages

00:17:27
Speaker
Let's go back to the beginning here.
00:17:33
Speaker
So we it's talking about that, remember how we mentioned in the beginning, that it can look like people are just getting away with everything, and and and it seems like, oh, I do right, and I have troubles, and it's hard to understand.
00:17:49
Speaker
But what we've been learning this year is that God has purpose in everything. And he works good into everything, even things that seem like they could be bad.
00:18:04
Speaker
We saw this example with Naomi and Ruth, where Naomi lost her husband and her two sons. And so Ruth lost her husband. And when they finally went back to Israel, Naomi,
00:18:17
Speaker
then That was when Ruth met Boaz and Boaz bought the field and married Ruth. And she was to become
00:18:29
Speaker
a descendant of Jesus.
00:18:33
Speaker
So God works everything together. He knows what is going to happen. So it i love how it says, oh, I was tempted. almost tripped.
00:18:44
Speaker
I could see how people were rich and everything seems to be going right for them. And it's just, it's hard to understand until talk to God. Talking to God always makes us feel better.
00:18:59
Speaker
He is where we should go when we are having trouble understanding things. And we still may not understand what's going on, but we need to know that we can trust in him and relax and have faith that he will work everything out according to his will.
00:19:15
Speaker
And I love how it says that it talks about the difficult things that people do. People are prideful and their hearts are hard. They want to boss everyone around.
00:19:29
Speaker
I want to point out that and these problems and these ah personality traits that they're describing about people, these were written thousands of years ago. And people are still the same today they were then.
00:19:45
Speaker
So this is just as applicable today as it was then. People are still trying to boss each other around. People still spend a lot of time just trying to get rich.
00:19:56
Speaker
It still seems like they can have all the money and have not have any issues the way we have issues, but that's not true. They're empty inside. Their pockets may be full, but they're empty inside.
00:20:09
Speaker
We are all empty in inside if we don't have Jesus and the Holy Spirit. But when we have Jesus and the Holy Spirit and God with us, then we are full and we are never alone.

Conclusion and Encouragement

00:20:20
Speaker
I love that.
00:20:22
Speaker
And I love how this says, he is, my God makes my heart strong. He is mine forever. It's good to be near God. That's where I go to be safe.
00:20:33
Speaker
God, I will tell about the things you do. Lord, help us to remember to tell everybody the great things that you do for us and to remember to go to you when we're upset about things so that we're not upset and we don't think, oh, things are going perfectly for other people and and things are just hard for me.
00:20:54
Speaker
You are working everything together in our lives for good. You have purpose for us. Help us to remember that and to not be discouraged as we go through daily life. And it's in Jesus' name I pray these things.
00:21:08
Speaker
Amen. Well, I hope that you feel that God has lit your light today. And if you do, please click that light button at the end of your video or at the end of your audio podcast.
