Introduction and Arsenal Game Preview

00:00:10
afcbournement
Hi everyone, welcome back to your daily Bournemouth podcast with me, one of your hosts, Luke Burrows. And today we have the guys from Arsenal who are joining us ready to look ahead to Saturday's game. i As well, Noah, how are you bi doing?
00:00:25
Esmonde Cole
Not too bad. Thanks. Not too bad.
00:00:26
Noah Jones
Very good. Thank you, brother. How are you?
00:00:28
afcbournement
very well, thank you. Looking forward to our conversation today, i'm always like a good crossover episode. Although I don't do them often, Vic, who's also on the Bournemouth team, usually covers them, but he's in Romania, so you have the pleasure of me today.

Team Performance Analysis

00:00:43
afcbournement
so so yeah But yeah, first off guys, I wanted to kind of, for this episode, cover both both of our teams starts the season. Then we'll go into key battles for this game and have talked about this game on the weekend, which is a Saturday Night Football game. And we're finished. We have always liked to do a little with score prediction, scorers and stuff really. So yeah, with that said, like both team start to the season. Obviously you guys are are up there and where ah we started quite well and then kind of dropped off recently. That Leicester defeat was was a bad one for us, but how do you view Arsenal start to the season?
00:01:25
Noah Jones
Thanks man, take this one brother.
00:01:26
Esmonde Cole
Yeah. I mean, like, I feel like, uh, um, might sound arrogant, but it feels almost like, a city you start where like they start quite slow, but they still grind out wins. And I feel like we've we've done that. And there's been a couple of times where, uh, obviously we dropped points against, you know, at the aforementioned city and, uh, Brighton and both those games, we lost, we lost a man. So, you know, you can, you can look at those of maybe a half glass full or,
00:01:51
Esmonde Cole
or the opposite, but want to be I want to be optimistic because I feel like i feel like we've had a with the fixtures that we've had, I feel like we've done pretty well to pretty much be on the same points we were last season at this this similar point.

Concerns and Criticisms

00:02:02
Esmonde Cole
But I don't know about you, Noah.
00:02:05
Noah Jones
Yeah, I think the same. I think there's a slight worry in me creeping in. And it's only because I think no disrespect to your Lester's and New South Amptons, but they made it a game for us. And I know that's going to happen. It's the Premier League, but I would have liked to have won more convincingly. So coming up, coming up against a ah good team like Bournemouth, there's a slight bit of me that thinks that it won't be as easy as most people are hoping.
00:02:34
afcbournement
Interesting. Yeah. What, what, what did you think of? cause as when you mentioned there, the, the games where you've had kind of 10 men in both games.
00:02:44
afcbournement
And then I also watched the city game. obviously most teams are going to lend just like defend. And then like in some quarters, uh, I still got criticized for that.
00:02:55
afcbournement
What did you make make of kind of how you've dealt with having 10 men in, in some of the games this season?
00:03:01
Esmonde Cole
i mean like all the critic All the criticism is from like salty, like Liverpool and City fans. So like, I know I'm being legit. I'm not even on the Twittersphere. So like, I know i'm I'm getting it firsthand in group chats.
00:03:13
Esmonde Cole
So I, you know, I've been getting all like, Oh, like, you know, you guys just defended the whole game. I mean, like, did you watch the game? We were ahead at halftime.
00:03:20
Noah Jones
Done.
00:03:23
Esmonde Cole
I mean, like we're playing, we're playing the best team in the world. So I think, I think rightfully so. We, we defended for our lives and grind it at the point when we were in a winning position. but We won't let that criticism faze us.
00:03:36
afcbournement
OK, interesting. No, yeah, it was some of the i like the I think it was because I watched the game and I think it was like Roy Keane afterwards was kind of also saying some stuff and it's like like what are you meant to do?
00:03:48
afcbournement
you You know, as you said, you're against the best team arguing like in the world, right? And but and you've got a man down. You're just going to go at them. You know, like it's not going to happen. Right. So interesting.
00:03:57
Noah Jones
Thank
00:03:58
afcbournement
Just kind of wanted to to get your thoughts there.

Injury Impact Discussion

00:04:02
Noah Jones
you.
00:04:03
afcbournement
You had some, yeah, so like just looking to ask for kind of this season, obviously, like those games, 10 man, a few injuries as well, or did I dream that?
00:04:14
Noah Jones
Mm, injuries are an interesting one at the minute. I think the most notable Martin Odegard is out for probably a little bit longer.
00:04:21
afcbournement
Yes.
00:04:22
Noah Jones
Michele Moreno, first training session got injured, but now he's back. Now Saka's got a knock, Martinelli's got a knock, Havart's didn't go to international duty, Tommy Assu's got a setback, so it seems like the injuries might be piling up, or is it just rumours?
00:04:39
Noah Jones
Is it mind games? Is it dark arts? Is it the media spinning? what we know they'll spin. So, look, if we've got people fit, I think one of the areas where we seemed so deep at the start of the season was full back, and then everyone seemed to fall apart a couple of weeks ago. So if we're fine there, I think we're fine. Just hopefully Saka's okay when he normally is. If Martin and he's not, we've got Chaucer, we've got Sterling. So I think we can weather it, I'd like it not to become a a regular issue.
00:05:09
Esmonde Cole
Yeah. yeah

Bournemouth vs Top Teams Analysis

00:05:11
afcbournement
Yeah, it's interesting knowing you said about obviously like Bournemouth played some good football, good team and obviously under Ariola, struggled against the quote unquote bigger teams, obviously we went to Anfield, last 3-0, Chelsea at home, although so Dom and Vic both live in Bournemouth, other podcasters on this podcast and they went to the Chelsea game and they were like really pissed, but really annoyed about that game because they felt like
00:05:42
afcbournement
and yeah That was really unfair. I'm not sure if you've seen that game. But against the bigger team saver this season, we've struggled. So I'm not sure where we can hurt Arsenal, to be honest.
00:05:54
afcbournement
you know And then we've got some really difficult games with Villa away and the Man City at home. So it's like, where ah ah where's the points coming from?
00:06:01
Noah Jones
couple That's brutal by the way, that is a brutal three thing, horrible.
00:06:05
afcbournement
Hmm.
00:06:07
Noah Jones
I like Bournemouth, I like the way they play, I think Semenyo is a fantastic player and I think if anyone's going to hurt us it's going to be him, but I think that's a think that as Arsenal fans is what's kind of good at the minute for us because teams are asking where can they hurt us and if you have to ask that question that means you're doing something right. think every team can be hurt in the league where it comes from I guess you don't know until the game but yeah I think this is I think this is going to be quite a good game I really do.
00:06:34
Esmonde Cole
Yeah. Yeah. I heard him earlier say that hasn't figured out the the top teams as yet. I don't know if this is something that you feel like you, you can see on the, on the field as well. I mean, like I wouldn't say Lester or a top team, but like they did obviously beat you one nil. What do you think? What do you think it is when it comes to maybe the bigger teams or unlocking sides that have a bit, you know, that tactical kind of finesse to them?
00:06:59
afcbournement
sure, maybe it just comes down to quality, you know, you know against like your Chelsea's and Arsenal's and Liverpool's and stuff, you know. The Leicester game was really disappointing because like obviously, as I said, they like you know going into these three games, you're thinking, okay, beat Southampton, 3-1.
00:07:19
afcbournement
you know, yeah great, you know, and probably should be winning out that game against a new new promoter team. Although I like first half, I was like free now and I thought like second half, it would have been like a cricket score, right? And then, yeah, Southampton kind of came back into it a bit, just kind of didn't build on that. But the Leicester game was really disappointing because I as i said you know kind of going into these three games really three difficult games i'm not sure where picking up points because our way record isn't great either that could be highlighted in you know going away to the king power as well so yeah i'm not i'm i'm not sure about this game i don't want to be too negative but know i think arsenal will probably be

Match Predictions and Key Players

00:08:06
afcbournement
too strong and I think like maybe to like push for a draw, you know, because yeah yeah, because we are at home, you know, and I think that under the kind of kind of and under the lights as well, like evening kickoff should be good. But yeah, just I'm not sure we'll get all three points. So the best I think we can hope for is a draw, and to be honest.
00:08:31
afcbournement
Awesome. Any other thoughts on kind of our start to the season and so far before we kind of dive driving into key battles for this for for this game?
00:08:42
Esmonde Cole
Yeah, I guess I guess it's stating the obvious, like, you know, saying the sky is blue and stuff, but Saka has been brilliant and and in terms of assists as well, filling that gap when Odegar has been missing, because we've only had Odegar for three games and Saka's gone, you know what?
00:08:54
Esmonde Cole
Now I'm Kevin De Bruyne. Here are seven assists for you. So yeah, it's been it's been nice to see that.
00:08:58
afcbournement
and
00:08:59
Esmonde Cole
And I know Noah thinks about Saka a lot.
00:09:02
Noah Jones
He's my hero, my brother, my son. I love him like a child.
00:09:09
Noah Jones
so
00:09:10
afcbournement
Awesome, yeah. and how How do you think he does for... I'm going to mention this because we just had an international break.
00:09:17
Noah Jones
I think he's one of the
00:09:18
afcbournement
How do you think he does for for England?
00:09:23
Noah Jones
most important players England have. I think if even if you just look at stats, you've got Harry Kane top goal scorer, then it's Saka. I think when you look at clutch moments, you look at the Euros that's just happened, we wouldn't have been in the final if it wasn't for him. when you've got the debates of Foden versus Saka, I think you also have to look at the international stage where Saka is consistently good and potentially Foden doesn't do much. I think if you're looking for consistency,
00:09:51
Noah Jones
I would would argue that Saka is one of the most consistent players in the Premier League.
00:09:56
afcbournement
I agree.
00:09:56
Esmonde Cole
official.
00:09:58
afcbournement
Going into the Euros, I'll quickly say something going to a break. When we look at debate about how to fit all these players into the England team, I was like, well, you can't take Saka out because they were like, how would you put Palmer in, Foden in?
00:10:19
afcbournement
who else, uh, like, yeah, all these talent talented players, you know, and they're like, well, you could play folded on the right. Where he's like, you're not going to take Saka out, you know, like Garvesterft was never going to do that.
00:10:30
afcbournement
Like this is not going to happen. You can't do it. And then like, well, I'll put Palmer there. It's like, it's just not going to happen. You know, Saka is one of the first things on the team sheet. So, great player.
00:10:40
Noah Jones
I'm glad you said that because we have to fight for our lives sometimes as Arsenal fans to get in where he wants to be.
00:10:46
afcbournement
Yeah, you know, it's it's just, you know, it's just not gonna happen, you know, like, so, yeah, sometimes as for football fans are a bit, I don't know, deluded, I guess, you know, and and stuff.
00:10:57
Noah Jones
yeah
00:10:57
afcbournement
So, but cool. Yeah, let's, let's take a quick break and then we'll be right back.

00:12:02
afcbournement
Okay, guys, let's talk more about the game and focus on some key battles. Obviously, some menus have been mentioned, sack has been mentioned so far. Definitely key players for both sides. As I've kind of alluded to, I'm not sure how, especially how, ah ah I guess for like 18 months, maybe even two years solid are sort of been defensively. I'm just like,
00:12:32
afcbournement
And one of our problems has been scoring goals, like how are we going to score a goal? So it's like, so, yeah, I guess that's, that that's going to be interesting. where do you see, you know, no, if I come to you, where where where'd you see key battles on, on, on the pitch?
00:12:49
Noah Jones
think a key battle is right wing versus left back. I believe Kirk Hage plays there, does he?
00:12:56
afcbournement
Left back. Yeah. Yeah.
00:12:57
Noah Jones
Yeah, I think anyone we play, the key battle is Saka against whoever. Now the interesting thing is, Kirk Hage, I think is really good. And there was even rumours this week that Artetto is looking at him, has more full back cover.
00:13:12
Noah Jones
I think if you can keep Saka quiet, especially when Odegard is injured, we kind of lose our creative flair and we kind of result to very simple football which teams can deal with. So I think that if, if Kirkesh can keep Saka quiet for a half, that is an unbelievable job and then you can just see what happens. I think we saw it against Brighton when we eventually went down to 10 men and drew. In the first five minutes Saka was running rings around Brighton's left back and it gave us the confidence that we needed to just keep going forward so it's right wing versus left back for me. Esmond I don't know if you agree or disagree.
00:13:55
Esmonde Cole
Yeah, I mean, I think I was going to agree with that in terms, especially with Saka, he's just so, so dangerous. But also, I think with all these, ah ah I want to say, quote unquote, injuries to to some of these players, because obviously I think it's a bit of a ah ah tactical ploy that Arteta has had to, you know, making sure some of the players don't and being fit. But I think especially because it you know that you the we're away, so Vitality Stadium, it's quite a small space and I feel like door duels are going to be very key and I think um midfield area is probably going to be key there. Probably Rice is going to be playing if he's not too tired from all the running about he's been doing for England. But yeah, I think i think definitely in the midfield battle as well, because also like I'm not too sure who's going to be available if you're going to believe the
00:14:36
Esmonde Cole
you know you know, parties allegedly, you know, well, I don't know if he's even injured. He's just maybe just, you know, staying in England as opposed to going away on international break. So you're wondering whether we do have enough firepower in in the midfield. Who's going to play there? Is Trost are going to play there is kind of how it's going to play there.
00:14:54
Esmonde Cole
So i think I think that's an area to look at. I think title will have something up your sleeve. Maybe we might even see a debut, ah a starting debut by um Marina there.
00:15:03
Noah Jones
I mean.
00:15:04
Esmonde Cole
But yeah i think think yeah, you're right in terms of Saka, but also i I'm interested to see who lines up in the middle for us.
00:15:13
afcbournement
Interesting. I think another kind of, no maybe not necessarily a key battle per se, but a key situation that kind of happens on the pitch is going to be set pieces because every time I've watched Arsenal from set pieces, Gabrielle scores, right?
00:15:29
afcbournement
So it's just like, yeah.
00:15:30
Noah Jones
but
00:15:31
afcbournement
And yeah, so that that kind of worries me a bit, to be honest.
00:15:37
Noah Jones
What's your piece defending been like this season so far?
00:15:41
afcbournement
it's an interesting one i think it's been average okay to be honest but yeah that does and just worry me so like yeah the thing with us is like defensively okay but you know just going forward it's you know so so it's almost like the middle of the pitch replacing my stuff but yeah it's just it's scoring goals and keeping clean sheets which obviously you you need to do if you want to you win games and kind of move up the move up the table, right?
00:16:13
afcbournement
So it's just like, yeah, play good football.
00:16:14
Esmonde Cole
it's like It's like the bare basics, I think.
00:16:16
afcbournement
Yeah, exactly. So I don't know.

Set-Piece and New Signings Discussion

00:16:20
afcbournement
Yeah, I just thought I'd mention that it's kind of a key situation but could you know that unfolds on the pitch because watching Arsenal, you know, I've watched Arsenal a few times and every every time it just seems like you set pieces and just go in, right?
00:16:33
afcbournement
And it's just like, oh, oh, oh no.
00:16:37
Noah Jones
ah ah so It's music to our ears that you struggle scoring and are okay defensively because I think the the the best thing about Arsenal at the minute, and yes, we can see goals, right? So there's no telling that you won't score a goal. But I'm always very confident with Saliba and Gabrielle And then we've now started to become very confident with habits. I think it took a while and people still aren't sure on him, but his numbers alone this season speak for themselves. And I think if...
00:17:07
Noah Jones
If defensively you're just okay, then Havertz is a bit of a nuisance and can definitely exploit that. But like I said, I'm a big fan of Semenya. So we've got to keep him quiet. Hopefully Gabri and Saliba can do that. But I think with Semenya it's about can he get the delivery? Can he get the ball up to him to then do his stuff? Because I think he's a player with with massive quality.
00:17:30
afcbournement
Yeah, so since then our new signing came in, Ivanielson, obviously I think he scored like, he has got off the mark, but just just with the one. this menu's kind of been pushed a little bit more, think out to the right if I'm yeah, his menu is our top goal scorer, so he's kind of like the person we've looked for for goals. I think defensively there's been like a few changes but in the centre-back pairing, because we bought, I can never pronounce his name by name, I think his name's Dean Hoiston or something, from Geventor, so really young defender. And so like he's come into the team and partnered Sonesse sometimes, and then yes, there's been like a few changes there.
00:18:07
afcbournement
we in the summer got the right back in, right back from Barca, Arejo I think his name is, so he's kind of still adapting to Premier League and obviously on the other side you've got Kirkez, so who is good and and you know and and as you said it has has been linked with bigger clubs so it'd be yeah it'd be interesting but I'll take a draw right now to be honest but we'll do
00:18:29
Esmonde Cole
Nope, nope.
00:18:32
afcbournement
We'll do score predictions in that next. so yeah Any other key battles before we move on?
00:18:42
Esmonde Cole
Well, I was just going to ask about, um, Kepa Arizabalaga. Like, what have you made a vims of him so far?
00:18:46
Noah Jones
No.
00:18:47
afcbournement
but yeah it's Personally, I think he had a little bit of a funny five minutes at Anfield where he like ran out, and then it was Lewis Diaz just kind of like went around him and and scored basically.
00:18:58
afcbournement
Overall, yeah, it's probably seven out of 10 so far, six out of 10 so far.
00:19:02
Noah Jones
Okay.
00:19:06
afcbournement
So, and not yeah, not bad. you Needed to position strengthen in that position and to obviously get a goalkeeper that's played for Chelsea and Real Madrid despite his errors in the past, you know, for Bournemouth, I think he's pretty pretty good going. So yeah, hopefully he can improve and proven keep some clean sheets. Obviously it's not just down to the goalie, but and that would be nice.
00:19:33
afcbournement
Cool. So yeah, let's ah dive into the the final bit, which is take a quick break and then the fun bit, the score predictions.
00:19:52
afcbournement

Score Predictions and Standout Players

00:20:26
afcbournement
So as I've alluded to more than a few times, I would take a role right now. So I'm going to go for score predictions
00:20:37
Noah Jones
Ooh.
00:20:38
Esmonde Cole
2-2. Who your score is?
00:20:41
afcbournement
who are Who are my scorers? So he's been mentioned because he is our top score scorer. I'm going to say two goals by Semenyo.
00:20:51
afcbournement
And that's that that's me being optimistic by the way, i think which I think we all need to be for our team. But yeah, I'll take it all right now.
00:20:56
Noah Jones
yeah
00:20:57
afcbournement
And so I'm going to go 2-2, because I don't think we can get better than that, to be honest.
00:21:04
afcbournement
And from an Arsenal side, I'll say, because again also because we mentioned it, I'll say, Havertz and Saka will score for you guys.
00:21:12
Noah Jones
Nice. so Two-two. That'd be a fantastic result for you, wouldn't it?
00:21:19
Noah Jones
is
00:21:20
afcbournement
Yeah, yeah, that's the best I can hope for, and to be honest.
00:21:24
afcbournement
Can't see us winning this.
00:21:25
Noah Jones
Fair play.
00:21:26
Noah Jones
Yeah, I was a um discussing this earlier and I think I've worried myself with the goals we let in against Leicester and Southampton, the international break, the supposed injuries. I don't like having a game away after an international break. The storyline I'd built up in my head was that it was I was ready for a horror show. So I think literally earlier today I said 2-1.
00:21:52
Noah Jones
As you said, you've got to be optimistic, though. So, look, I'm going to back the boys. I'm going to say 3-1. But I don't think it will be a rout at all. I think it will be a bit of a stressful game for Arsenal fans, maybe like the Southampton one was. They went 1-0 up and then we scored a few. But, yeah, I'll go 3-1 and I'm going to go two goals for Havertz. And, as we said in the second part, Gabrielle Heada.
00:22:22
afcbournement
Oh yeah, go get mine.
00:22:24
Noah Jones
Absolutely, it's all I've ever got, it's all I know.
00:22:28
Esmonde Cole
for me, I think, I think, uh, cause I was looking back at the, the score lines for the previous games. we haven't conceded against you guys. It was three no and four nil. So, and then also like factoring in our waveform, our waveforms like crazy. seems like we're doing way better away than we are doing at home, especially when it comes to conceding goals. So I'm going to go for a, I'm going to go for a two nil.
00:22:51
Esmonde Cole
think habits will get on the board i think i think our boy martin any might get on the board as well so i'm going i'm going for two now yeah
00:22:59
Noah Jones
I know you wanted to say 3-0 then as well, I can hear it in your voice.
00:23:03
Esmonde Cole
yeah all right there go on there give me a free note go on
00:23:04
Noah Jones
mostly
00:23:08
Noah Jones
yeah
00:23:11
afcbournement
Yeah. a Man the match? Who do you think?
00:23:18
Noah Jones
man of the match. I'm going i'm going to preemptively guess that Marino might start and if he does I'm going to give it to him. He might not start and then I will look pretty silly on listening back to this but I'm gonna guess that Marino's gonna start and he's gonna get my man of the match.
00:23:41
afcbournement
Nice ones.
00:23:42
Esmonde Cole
I was going to say something similar, but I think, I think, I think it might, I think it might be right. I think it might be right again. I think, I think yeah it might end up being, cause obviously with international break first 10 minutes in, Oh no.
00:23:50
Noah Jones
I love that.
00:23:54
Esmonde Cole
So many is in. Oh, great save. Right. Okay. Cool. I mean, like maybe saves another like clear cut chance and then we score a couple of goals and then it's, you know, easy peasy. I think that might be happened. I think that might happen. so I'm going, I'm going to have a ride.
00:24:07
afcbournement
So yeah, for me, I'm going to go because again, we mentioned him and I do like him. I'm going to say. Sucker and because he's on the school sheet from my side, so I think he put in a performance set.
00:24:20
Noah Jones
The menu is called 2.0. You've got to give it to him.
00:24:25
afcbournement
True, yeah, good point.
00:24:27
Noah Jones
You can have it. We'll let you have it. You can choose the menu.
00:24:31
afcbournement
Yeah, so yes, so many for us. Sucker for Arsenal, because I think because I'll left back, as we've discussed, it's it's going to be a key battle.
00:24:42
afcbournement
He likes to go forward, so I think Sak is just going to have, like, this space, score a goal, probably set up habits or something like that. But that was the picture I was playing in my mind. Forgetting that actually, like, just a minute ago, I said Semenya was scored, too.
00:24:51
Noah Jones
Look.
00:24:54
afcbournement
So, yeah yeah. You know, if he if he scores two against Arsenal, he would probably wouldn't be man of the match, but...
00:24:59
Noah Jones
Absolutely.
00:25:01
afcbournement
But, yeah. Awesome. some Well, good luck, guys. Yeah, we see we see how it plays out.

Bournemouth Season Outlook and Wrap-Up

00:25:11
Noah Jones
Good luck to you too, sir. Good luck.
00:25:14
afcbournement
Yeah, that score prediction was my very much optimistic self, but I've been spending too much time with Vic and Dom on the podcast who are very optimistic about Bournemouth. Because like when we did an episode on predicting like Premier League table and stuff.
00:25:34
afcbournement
And they said, like, Bournemouth would finish eighth. And I was like 10. I think I said 10 for 11th, like last season. So yeah, I've been, I've been, I've been hanging out with them in a bit too much.
00:25:44
afcbournement
But then there we go.
00:25:45
Noah Jones
What would take for it to talk about? If they were here, what would that take?
00:25:49
afcbournement
They would probably,
00:25:51
afcbournement
I would say they would probably go a draw as well. I don't think they would i don't think they would say that Bournemouth could be Arsenal, to be honest.
00:25:54
Noah Jones
Okay.
00:26:01
afcbournement
And I think we would, all four of us would agree on that. So think they would say a draw as well.
00:26:09
Noah Jones
Fair enough, love it, love it.
00:26:12
afcbournement
Awesome. Well, yeah, guys, thank you for your time today. Pleasure. And yeah, good up for the for the rest of the season. And we'll do this again. I'm not even sure when the return fixture is.
00:26:24
afcbournement

00:26:26
Noah Jones
don out I don't have a clue.
00:26:26
Esmonde Cole
No idea, no idea mate.
00:26:28
afcbournement
No, no idea. Well, yeah, we'll talk then and see what happens between then and now.
00:26:37
Noah Jones
Nice one, thanks mate.
00:26:39
afcbournement
