Network and Episode Recap

00:00:28
Luke
have you back. I think, you know, yeah, last week I did a few solo episodes because um Dom's kind of away and you were away as well. So I did a few solo episodes talking everything. The chair is and I had a good conversation with the guys over at the Southampton podcast, but it's good to have you back here and I'm looking forward to our conversations today. today, because yesterday, I want to know, ah Monday was a very interesting and game and I thought that Jerry's, especially first half, played extremely well that I'm sure we're going to dive into. So um so yeah, ah good good good to have you back on the podcast, my friend.
00:01:04
officialgspn

And here we go! as Fabrizio Romano would say 3-1 3-1 sweet win 3-0 in the first 30ish minutes oh my days I thought that game was gonna end like 7-0 to us ah cherries have definitely put the show um I mean the game they played I think if any any other bigger teams were playing instead of Southampton yesterday
00:02:37
officialgspn
score would probably be the same, maybe one goal less, but I'm very positive that Bournemouth definitely knew what they wanted on Monday and yeah they just went for it. um Southampton, I think maybe they had the initiative for the first five, six minutes. and They tried to show their teeth, but no, didn't work. And the opener from Vanilsson was a goal that all the fans were waiting for and if you remember in one of the previous episodes and when I mentioned that he only needs one to start with and I'm pretty sure he's gonna score whatever every other game from now on.
00:03:21
Luke
Yeah it's interesting because um in one of the last episodes last week where we did the the crossover episode with the guys from Southampton and and um kind of gave school predictions and I actually said that evangelism would score so I'm very pleased about that and I said he would get ah get off the mark so um hopefully for for him and obviously for Bournemouth that's you know the start of something now but as you said there like in the first half after, yeah, maybe like the first 10 minutes or so, when Southampton kind of started, yeah ah you know, decently, you know, quite good. Bournemouth just kind of came into their own and um yeah I thought like, shit, like this could end up up being four, five, you know, ah kind of scoreline.

Player Highlights and Concerns

00:04:05
Luke
So yeah, I was very impressed with the chairs in the first half.
00:04:12
officialgspn
Another goal from Semenyo. Semenyo, I think, I'm starting to change my mind on him. And to be honest, yes, he is becoming less selfish player.
00:04:25
officialgspn
But he's also becoming one of the carriers of the team, which I really love. And we really need a player like Semenyo, who is not afraid to try to go one on one, um just cut inside when he's playing on the wing. ah he He still is the the player with the most creative chances and most goal attempts so far in the Premier League since the start of this season.
00:04:51
officialgspn
um and I really hope we're not going to lose him at the end of the season or maybe even next one. ah Because what he's showing at the moment on the pitch, he looks like he could easily play for one of the Giants in the prem. And talking about City or Arsenal or Liverpool maybe. He looks really good, really good. Or Tara, I'm glad he he got his name on the score sheet. It was a bit...
00:05:21
officialgspn
lucky that he he changed the direction of the ball. ah But then that got the assist for Lewis Cook, who was the man of the match on Monday. And and I'm glad that Cook is also doing well. um It's not his I believe this is his second man of the match already this season. And knowing that he can play on multiple positions, even as a center back,
00:05:49
officialgspn
um Cookie for me is is is a very valuable player for the team and if he just keeps playing in the same form, um I would be surprised not to see him starting the games in the future.
00:06:07
Luke
Interesting. um Yeah, just on, like, um
00:06:13
Luke
Semenyo, you know, i i really I really liked his goal. um Obviously we've spoken a few times about him sometimes to being a bit of a selfish player, but, you know, that's three and six now. Great start to the yeah a new season, i although I'm not sure if we can continue to call it the new season because obviously it's like six games played beginning of October.
00:06:32
Luke
But, um, yeah, you know, I thought he played really well. I had to be honest, like when you score three goals and could have scored five or six, like the whole attack online, I think played, played well.
00:06:43
Luke
And I liked the, um, the short free kick, the quick free kick as well. Now that was, you know, that for the opening goal, that
00:06:48
officialgspn
Oh yeah, that that that caught them really, yeah?
00:06:51
Luke
Yeah, I like that quote on big time.
00:06:51
officialgspn
They were not prepared for this.
00:06:55
Luke
No, no. And that was, was that Tavernier?
00:07:00
officialgspn
Tavenir.
00:07:00
Luke
I think it was.
00:07:02
officialgspn
Tavenir, yeah.
00:07:02
Luke
Yeah.
00:07:04
officialgspn
Yeah, Tav is... I don't know, he's looking well. In comparison to the last season, he started this one much better. um And yeah, I might have had...
00:07:18
officialgspn
in the beginning, wrong opinion about TAV. But yeah, let's see what the what the rest of of this first half of the season will bring. um some Some other players, that I mean, Clive didn't start. He played for the last half an hour. Interesting that Iraola decided to start with with Dango instead of Clive, which was obviously a great decision because Dango seems to be back in form now. And that that that more looks like Dango, Tara,
00:07:51
officialgspn
from year and a half when he was smashing, um scoring every other game. He was really brilliant, I don't know if you remember, ah but he really did put the show on almost every time he was on the pitch and this is now obviously the season four Semenya. So with the new left back hackers that we we have now, Dango did realize that he needs to fight for his position. So maybe that that's what affected his mentality as well to to start fighting for the place in team.

Rivalry and Second Half Recap

00:08:27
officialgspn
Obviously Sinisterra as well.
00:08:30
officialgspn
I don't know Sinisterra seems to be getting less and less minutes but yet he's good when he comes on because he he makes the impact and I said it a few times and I'm gonna say it again I still believe that Sinisterra plays much better when he comes off the bench rather than starting the game um maybe that's why you roll things as well so so he's just putting him on you know second half last 30 20 15 minutes um and yeah luckily um
00:08:32
Luke
Yeah.
00:09:00
officialgspn
um To be honest, I expect more yellow cards from Bournemouth on Monday because obviously this is the Derby, Bournemouth Southampton and it's always, you know, you can always feel fire um on the pitch and then fire between players because they're very nearby, Bournemouth and Southampton are 35 miles away.
00:09:23
officialgspn
So the the rivalry has been going on for years and years, and I'm sure all of our fans know that. So yeah, it went well. Southampton got many more cards than Bournemouth, which is very important for the future games.
00:09:41
Luke
yeah Yeah, yeah, just just a a great game, a great first half from Bournemouth's perspective and I was kind of... no i Maybe disappointment is the wrong word, but like, one, to concede a goal, you you know, you' like, when you have that dominant, like, first half performance, it was like a clean sheet, at least I do, in in the back of my mind, and then to um You know like not build on the free, but maybe you know being a bit Tough and kind of harsh on on on the team because first half was was really was really good. So um Yeah, but yeah in terms of the second half I was a bit disappointed to concede a goal and not to have a clean sheet I'm not sure your thoughts there Vic, but um But you know the wins the most important things so

right we're back uh back after the short break look you there you're not asleep come lovely day ahead of us lovely sunny day at least in Bournemouth I don't know how it's up there where you are but we love the sun mate you gotta move to Bournemouth
00:12:02
Luke
Not yet, man. Not yet. Uh, we'll be seen, I think. Um, but uh, but no, uh, not yet, my friend.
00:12:17
Luke
Sunny day. No, it's like rains all the time. Like the last week is just like constant rain.
00:12:24
officialgspn
You gotta move to Bournemouth.
00:12:26
Luke
No, I was there in the in in summer, unfortunately we didn't get to meet, you know, and that was totally on me, but um yeah, I do do you like it down on the coast, so that might actually be a possibility, like, you know.
00:12:43
officialgspn
Right, so back talking about the the second half and then and diving more deeply into the the game on Monday.
00:12:55
officialgspn
ah Again, to mention, everyone is so happy for Ivanielson to put his name on the score sheet. We look forward to many more goals this season. ah Unfortunately, he didn't score more than one, but one to start with is is enough and is great. um Second half, Southampton started much more sharply and I'm not gonna lie they they had nothing to lose after going going on a break from 3-0 I believe Bumut is one of the very little number of teams that can't come back from 3-0 down if you remember from last season and but

Player Debates and Personal Stories

00:13:38
officialgspn
To be honest, when Southampton scored first goal, I wasn't scared at all. I wasn't scared that if they were going to come back. I knew that the Bournemouth just relaxed for a bit. ah Southampton has to play all-out attack and that's it. They were lucky, they scored ahead a header great cross um into the into the six yards and um Howard Bellis was just there.
00:14:04
officialgspn
um and it was, you know, right place, right time, that's it. um But then, again, 15-20 minutes into the second half, their defence, their defence just started looking again vulnerable and I was hoping that Vanilsson will score another one. ah Ramsdale, they deny him. Ramsdale, who we all know, a couple of years ago, played for Bournemouth, was a great keeper, went to Arsenal, didn't play there much. And to be honest with you, before Kep assigned to come on loan to Bournemouth, I was thinking that maybe Ramsdale is going to come back. But seeing seeing now um him on the pitch,
00:14:51
officialgspn
I'd prefer Kepa. I don't know what's your opinion but i'll I'd rather have Kepa in goal.
00:14:58
Luke
Hmm. Yeah. interesting Interesting. Isn't it? Because I think it was also in the episode with the guys from the staff from Southampton. We kind of, um, spoke about some players that played for both teams. And then on, on Friday's episode, I kind of look back at kind of over the time and kind of players that played it for, for both teams. And obviously run runs delis is now one of those. so Um, and I think I alluded to.
00:15:26
Luke
i' I'm not actually sure, i um I'll link the episode down below so people can have a look, but we're kind of why mentioning that is because um we were kind of talking about, you know, goalkeepers. um And I feel like they both have a mistake potentially in them.
00:15:36
officialgspn
yeah yeah
00:15:41
officialgspn
Yeah, yeah.
00:15:41
Luke
Like when Richard has went to Anfield for living, this is, DS is his first goal. Like he just like ran off his day i ran off his line and and stuff, you know, um like in new man's land type of thing.
00:15:53
officialgspn
Yeah, I guess Liverpool don't know what's the great game now.
00:15:55
Luke
yeah Yeah so like i you know maybe maybe every like every keeper outside of like the elite keepers have a mistake in them.
00:15:56
officialgspn
I don't really want to move on.
00:16:07
Luke
um But yeah you know I think for Bournemouth and I spoke about this with Dom in past episodes especially over the summer transfer window towards the end you know to get somebody who's played for Real Madrid and Chelsea and stuff is definitely a coup for Bournemouth. So um yeah, probably Kepper edges it for me. I remember when he he was a young keeper coming through, you know, he was getting raged about quite a lot and and stuff, but um Yeah, I would probably agree with you, but just about edges it with a little bit of a caveat that they probably have both a mistake in them. um But again, I will echo my thoughts there.
00:16:51
Luke
Bournemouth to get a keeper that's played for top teams like Real Madrid, you know, I'm going to be one of the best teams, if not the best, you know, the the team, that every, every player, every football player wants to play for. um It's definitely a cue for, for Bournemouth. And yeah, apart from that must mistake at Anfield, I don't remember to, I think he's had a pretty good start to his Bournemouth career. So,
00:17:15
Luke
um maybe he would be disappointed to to school that goal to concede that goal, sorry, on Monday night because, you know, Kinshi is always that extra bonus that teams look for. But yeah.
00:17:33
officialgspn
well funny thing talking about yeah real Madrid one of my best mates is a huge fan of Real Madrid, Madridista how they call them and yeah he he he listens to our podcast constantly and he'll be happy to to hear your opinion as well on Real Madrid.
00:17:59
officialgspn
He doesn't miss a game. He literally doesn't miss a game. It's the same with me when Bournemouth plays.
00:18:02
Luke
Wow.
00:18:05
officialgspn
I don't miss a game. If I can't be on the stadium, in

Upcoming Matches and Speculations

00:18:09
officialgspn
the stadium, I manage to watch it on the phone, but I'm always there, even just listening. And he's like that with Madrid. um Yeah, I think careful.
00:18:17
Luke
Does he live in Spain or not?
00:18:20
officialgspn
No, he lives in Bournemouth.
00:18:22
Luke
Okay. He lives in Bournemouth. Yeah. Okay.
00:18:24
officialgspn
lay boman Yeah, yeah we we go to watch games together sometimes.
00:18:24
Luke
So yeah, he's, he's, he must. Yeah.
00:18:28
officialgspn
when When he's a good boy, then I take him with me.
00:18:28
Luke
Okay.
00:18:31
Luke
Yeah, you get tickets from
00:18:33
officialgspn
yeah yeah it's it's Yeah, everybody knows how difficult it is to get tickets, but you can only get one ticket on your under your name. You've got to get the points and everything. as Sometimes he go he goes with me. He doesn't have as many points as I do, um but he's getting there slowly. you know He's becoming
00:18:54
officialgspn
more better uh well yeah he's he he's becoming more bomb with fun rather than than realm of dread fan not yet but in the in the next few years i'm trying to you know turn him around and uh yeah right so yeah say again sorry yeah keep that up yeah
00:19:13
Luke
Keep at it, keep at it. No, I was just saying, you know, keep at it, and one day he will, he may turn around.
00:19:25
Luke
Better that than the other way around, where, like, he convinces you to, like, become a real Madrid fan, I guess.
00:19:29
officialgspn
nah nah nah i i love small clubs nah nah i'm not gonna go for a bigger club that's nah he knows that he knows that already but by then hopefully we're gonna have bigger stadium so i can you know learn more people and becoming supporters of Bournemouth
00:19:30
Luke
Maybe.
00:19:48
officialgspn
Right, ah back on the on the main topic, the second half did not actually see many chances, hence no goals in the second half. I think the only serious chance was um a hit from Christie when he just went past the the the near post. um It was a half volley he tried, but apart from that, I can't i can't remember any any other serious chances known for Bournemouth or Southampton.
00:20:21
officialgspn
um So again, glad glad to see that Bournemouth got those three points at home. ah Next game, absolutely tough game, playing against Leicester away. We all know how Leicester plays and at home and especially their legend Jamie Vardy.
00:20:44
officialgspn
who scores almost every home game. and it will be It will be interesting to to see how Beaumont will we'll set up for that game and the hopefully hopefully bring back three points before the international break.
00:21:01
officialgspn
And then off to Arsenal.
00:21:02
Luke
I know I never won.
00:21:03
officialgspn
um Yeah, yeah, there there's another one. Can't wait to watch Serbia again. You know, I'm i'm a big, Patriot and I do follow my national team and Back in the summer they'd go to to watch the Euros in Germany as well um Yeah, they got a lot of potential But something doesn't doesn't doesn't seem to be right so they can do a lot But they don't have to do anything ah I Don't know how else to put it they can do a lot, but they don't have to do it.
00:21:35
Luke
Mm.
00:21:42
officialgspn
I um but yeah let's go for another quick break um and after we come back we'll see what's ahead um of Bumut's next few games and also who we expect to be shining in the next few games and and can also do some score predictions if we have time maybe just quickly go through um through the stats head-to-head matches with the next few opponents and and see how that goes you okay with that Luke
00:22:27
Luke
Sure thing, man. Yeah, I mean, hopefully we will do some episodes with the Leicester team um coming up and kind of get to it's a collaborat collaborat collaborate with them, kind of see see you have their thoughts on on the game. But um yeah, um let' let's do that. Let's look ahead to the next games and stuff. Sounds good.
00:22:57

officialgspn
Right, we're back to summarize the whole story from Monday. Great three points against Southampton, who for me so far seems to be the weakest team in the Premier League. Do you agree, Luke?
00:24:17
Luke
My wolves, they're level bottom with wolves on Go Difference. I think wolves have been a little bit unlucky from some of the games that I've seen, played some more, maybe you would say difficult opponents, obviously was against the Liverpool last time out. They played Villa, who else have they played Chelsea.
00:24:38
officialgspn
yeah
00:24:39
Luke
Arsenal I believe so you know ah Newcastle as well so teams that you would expect to be in you know fighting towards kind of European football top half the table um so probably yes I'm not off the top of my head sure all of Southampton's games that they've played Ipswich yes yeah because last time out they drew against Ipswich and they were at home and you're yeah and you're thinking like
00:24:44
officialgspn
Yeah.
00:24:58
officialgspn
Well, they had the Ipswich, Brentford,
00:25:04
officialgspn
They drew against Ipswich, yeah, that was that was um that was last last week, yeah.
00:25:10
Luke
And you're thinking, you know, like, you're at home, you've got to win that one, to be honest, like, don't you?
00:25:10
officialgspn
It was a bit unlucky, the Ipswich scored in 95th minute and we all know how it feels when when you concede in the last minute of the game.
00:25:13
Luke
So. um
00:25:20
officialgspn
um Yeah, so the game before that, they won against Everton the in the EFL Cup. ah before the Brantford, Man United, they had much, much easier um schedule in comparison to Wolves, to be honest.
00:25:30
Luke
Pen is, wasn't it?
00:25:44
officialgspn
Man United, I mean, no comment on that, the the way they lost 3-0 for the...
00:25:50
Luke
Yeah, let's leave that one for another day. um but That would be good.
00:25:53
officialgspn
Yeah, but the way they lost just makes me think one against Southampton 3-0 hopefully hopefully we'll get another 3-0 win like last season against Man United away um looking forward to that game that would have been great yeah that would have been great um but yeah so next game we said hopefully yeah we'll we'll manage to do the crossover episode with the guys from Leicester on the next game see what the foxes say and
00:26:24
Luke
Because they're down there aren't they as well. They're down there. um have Haven't won a game. They're one of four teams that that haven't won a game. Three draws, three defeats. Obviously always difficult for newly promoted teams.
00:26:36
officialgspn
Yeah, Leicester had less layer.
00:26:36
Luke
um
00:26:39
officialgspn
They drew against Palace and Everton.
00:26:43
officialgspn
We're lucky we we we won against Everton, obviously, the mill and three goals in the last 10-ish minutes. um lost to Arsenal lost to Villa again not easy schedule and yeah lost to Fulham drew with Tottenham so yeah still no win for Leicester hopefully they'll stay like this after after the game with Bournemouth but yeah I'd love to see Bournemouth now you know um just to start flying you know to get the wings after this game and um
00:27:19
officialgspn
From the next, I'd say five games where we got three bigger teams such as Arsenal, Villa and City, um I'd love in the next five games to to get at least eight points. I think it's possible, what do you think?
00:27:35
Luke
Yeah, I mean, I think I mentioned this in some solo episodes that I did last week or would think it was where I said, you know, that Bournemouth really needed to win the Southampton game and also the Leicester game because of those more difficult games coming up. But then given the expert kind of expectations but also predictions that all three of us, myself,
00:28:00
Luke
obviously you and Dom have shared on the podcast for export expectations this season, you you know, you would, you know, like kind of like top 10, top eight finish, and picking up some put some points against those more traditionally quote unquote bigger clubs is going to be very important. And I'm just wondering like out of those three, the Arsenal game, the Villa game, the Manchester City game, which games are most likely, you know, to try and try and get something from, maybe like a draw at Villa Park.
00:28:32
Luke
um
00:28:33
officialgspn
Draw against Arsenal.
00:28:35
Luke
Draw against Arsenal, maybe. um But yeah, it's it's difficult.

Season Start and Fan Engagement

00:28:41
Luke
one I mean, after after those, I mean, we're into kind of approaching middle of November, so Brentford, um probably looking to win that one.
00:28:50
Luke
and ball Brighton, um home, you know, win that one, you know, kind of, we finish on like the end of November.
00:28:52
officialgspn
Brighton, yeah.
00:28:59
Luke
Wolves who, you know, obviously we've been just talking about. So probably win that one. you know Aim for three points in that one.
00:29:06
officialgspn
Well, maybe things change for walls.
00:29:08
Luke
So. Yeah.
00:29:10
officialgspn
Because if they keep losing the game, they have to they have to start winning it at least games at home. Because I was watching some highlights, and wolves aren't playing that bad.
00:29:17
Luke
True.
00:29:21
officialgspn
it's just but Maybe it's just a bad start like Beaumont had last season, but then remember what happened after seven, eight seven eight games.
00:29:21
Luke
I know. Yeah.

Beaumont was flying. Seven games undefeated. um so you know maybe maybe just you know time time will show um i'm more scared of uh the game against spares when silankey will be back to to vitality
00:29:45
Luke
yeahly Yeah, we're kind of headed into December then, aren't we? But, um no man, it's it's an interesting one, you know, obviously at the moment, ah two wins, two draws, two defeats, 11th in the table. um It's been, a from my perspective anyway, a decent start, I guess, you know.
00:30:08
Luke
um
00:30:12
Luke
only losing against two of the quote unquote bigger teams in Chelsea. Was it Chelsea in Liverpool? You know, so that's, that's not too bad.
00:30:21
officialgspn
Yeah, and that was unlucky against Chelsea, actually, because I watched that game. I was at the ground and then we were way better than Chelsea and we were just unlucky within school. You know, those days when you just.
00:30:31
Luke
Yeah, i I did. I I didn't see that game, but you know, low looking and I think it was in our group chat and then after speaking to, speaking to Dom afterwards, um, it a kind of sounded that, you know, Bournemouth were definitely the ah better team, but, um, yeah, I mean, 11 of it in the table after six games, um, only losing against, as I said, they're like the two, two concrete bigger teams probably should have got something from that Chelsea game.
00:30:59
Luke
Decent start, I feel. so um So yeah, let's see what happens in in the Leicester game. I'm going to reserve some of my thoughts, I guess, on the Leicester game before our episode with the guys from Leicester.
00:31:10
Luke
But um I think I agree with you, you know, for the aspirations and kind of predictions that we set for Bournemouth at the beginning of the season. um Got to beat Leicester and then going into the other, you know, those other three games against quite big teams that are going to have to pick up some some points there.
00:31:25
officialgspn
Yeah.
00:31:31
officialgspn
Right. And before we finish for today, I just want to say that it was great to see Araujo, the new signing, coming to the pub after the game, ah the Queens Park pub, which is near the ground.
00:31:42
Luke
I did a nice.
00:31:44
officialgspn
Yeah. So he promised before the game, he did promise that he will come to the pub to stay with the fans for a bit. Obviously not to get drunk, ah but he did he did keep his word and after the game he did go to the pub. I wasn't there, I wasn't at the game, so I feel sorry I wasn't there. ah Otherwise the picture with him would would be all over the socials, but next time, Julian, next time. um And yeah, it was really great to see that that he was hanging around with the fans for a bit after the game. And another thing that I that i really found funny was near the end of the game

there was the the speaking announcement right on the page that all the trains to Southampton were cancelled after quarter past 11. So the next train would be 5am and imagine imagine the fans from Bournemouth when they heard that everybody started cheering ah because how else are people going to go back to Southampton?
00:32:43
officialgspn
No transport. And unfortunately, that this is what happens in Bournemouth very often that the trains are either running late or just don't run at all.
00:32:44
Luke
Wow.
00:32:53
officialgspn
Like this weekend, we had this weekend, the trains didn't run at all between Poole and Southampton. um So loads of taxis, loads of coaches were going from Bournemouth to Southampton, ah from Poole to Southampton.
00:33:08
officialgspn
It was crazy. It was super busy this weekend. um And yeah, on that note, I think we we had done for today. Thank you so much for joining me, Luke Legend.
00:33:21

00:33:21
