It's that time again when we pause the Premier League season for an international break. In this episode, Luke flies solo and shares his thoughts on Bournemouth's last outing against Leicester which ended in a disappointing 1-0 defeat and turns his attention to England vs. Greece in the  Nations League.

Apology & Episode Focus

afcbournement
Hi everyone, welcome back to Daily FC Bournemouth Podcast with me, one of your hosts, Luke Burrows. To start off this episode, guys, I want to put out a little bit of an apology for all of our listeners and audience. Basically, you guys, because we didn't produce an episode on Monday looking back at the Lester Bournemouth game. sorry about that. You know, life happens sometimes, and so Dom and Vic couldn't record. And this week is pretty much just me on solo episodes, and I've had the idea. Maybe it's a good idea, maybe not.
00:00:46
afcbournement
um to cover the International Break. So, a while, this is the Daily Bournemouth Podcast with International Break now upon us. There is no Bournemouth football, right? So, and as it's just me, I could talk things with all things Bournemouth, but... Instead I'm going to focus and shift my attention towards international break and talking pretty much England, all things England, so stay around for this episode and for the episode also on Friday if you want to listen to all things

Bournemouth vs Leicester Review

00:01:22
afcbournement
England because tomorrow, tomorrow we do have the first game England versus Greece that I'm going to be coming on to in just a moment. But seeing as we have missed the episode on Monday, the match wrap review, Leicester, Bournemouth, I'm going to give some of my quick takes on what I saw and understand basically like happened in that game obviously was it was a afternoon kickoff so
00:01:55
afcbournement
wasn't on TV and Lester did come out on top, which was very disappointing for Bournemouth. If you go back to some of the previous episodes of one last week, what I did with Vic, and I was saying to Vic that Bournemouth really needed to go into that game, win that game, because they've asked for coming up next, then I think it's Villa Le Mans City and so there's some really difficult games coming up for the Cherries and so I just felt like they really needed to get something from that game and they didn't. And listening to Ariella in the previous conference afterwards, was basically saying that Bournemouth didn't take their chances and that's what needs to happen,

Bournemouth's Performance & Future Challenges

00:02:30
afcbournement
is right? Like when you are in the Premier League,
00:02:33
afcbournement
you need to be able to take your chances is and if we just kind of bear that in mind and look at the match tap the match stats if I can talk today. Bournemouth had 19 shots you know but only two shots on target the same amount that Leicester had but only having just six shots in total so Leicester had 6-2. Bournemouth had 19-2. Bournemouth had more possession or passes.
00:02:54
afcbournement
pass accuracy is higher you kind of expect that if they are if they have more of the ball. I did commit more fouls but less off sides and so this result leaves them just two points above above Leicester and after Bournemouth had a good start to the season and If we put it into context, right, leading up to the first international break, I don't think they lost a game. And then obviously they have that 1-0 defeat against Chelsea. We all know what Dom and Vic thinks about that. They were they were there that night and thought Chelsea should have definitely won that game. You know, this result, same points now as West Ham. Same points as Man United. Do we want to even talk about Man United and what's going on there? But yeah, I just thought it's a really disappointing result for
00:03:41
afcbournement
the cherries and it seems like their players, their attackers didn't show up. So,
00:03:50
afcbournement
unfortunate, but, you know, gotta be winning those games if Bournemouth want to have the aspirations that they do, which I think is a top 10 finish, like even from when I was listening to Bill Foley, the owner, a game earlier in the season against Newcastle,
00:04:06
afcbournement
that game was on TV and they interviewed Palfoli and he said like you know where they want to be pushing and as as I said that if they want to be pushing where he wants to be pushing right then like you've got to be winning that game or at least getting a draw from that game especially with upcoming fixtures. But then we say that, you know, last season they finished just outside the top 10 and they had a really poor start to the season, but disappointing result for them. And a maybe Bournemouth are going to be more of a home team than an away team. They've only won one away game this season, which was obviously that amazing comeback against
00:04:55
afcbournement
Everton so got the draw away against Forest as well so going going to be difficult we know with those games coming up after an international break we have Arsenal born with Arsenal and that's at home so they're going to want to be picking something up for that game but that was a few days ago now so again apologies that here on the Daily Bournemouth podcast we didn't put out an episode for that game after an international breakdown maybe a few changes ah around these parts and putting out some more consistent content from the Bournemouth perspective but you know balancing life and everything sometimes isn't easy especially when life happens which is why Dumb and Vic couldn't record and get an episode out to you for
00:05:39
afcbournement
match wrap Monday, but well But yeah, so some of my thoughts there on the game when that leaves Bournemouth and they're gonna need to get something I think from those free upcoming games against some top sides so But two of them are at home, you know, so if they are a home team, maybe they can pick up a draw against Arsenal maybe maybe do the unthinkable right and beat Man City or stop Man City in some way, which is obviously doable, but just think that Man City could be too strong as they are for most teams.

International Break & England's Matches

00:06:13
afcbournement
So some of my thoughts there on the game, on the weekend, it was a few days ago now, as as I said there, and so again, apologies.
00:06:27
afcbournement
apologies for that but what I'm going to do is turn our attention to the international rank as I said and talk all things England so I will be right back in just a second to talk England
00:06:53

Okay, so with International Break, next two episodes, including the rest of this episode and Friday's, what ah typically is a forecast Friday episode, is going to be focused on England previewing the games and just kind of International Break in general.
00:08:01
afcbournement
From a Bournemouth perspective, and from a Bournemouth England perspective, there isn't any Bournemouth players in the squad. Probably not surprising to anyone. The squad reads, and you probably already know this by now, but I'm going to read anyway.
00:08:17
afcbournement
goalkeeper is Dean Henderson, Pickford and Nick Pope, defenders although he pulled up injured in the game against Man United so I'm not sure at the time of recording this I'm not sure his current status and usually what happens click players pull out so this is current as when it was announced a few days ago to get back to Mid-Squad, Rehiluris, John Stones, Car Walker, Midfielders, Jude Bellingham, Phil Foden, Connor Gallagher, Morgan Gibbs-White, Angel Gomes, Cobie Menu, Cole Palmer, Declan Ryze, and up front, Fords, Anthony Gordon, Jack Grewdish, Harry Kane, MacAwayi,
00:09:11
afcbournement
Saka, Domit Solanke, X-Bormuth and Oli Watkins. So that's the team, no Bormuth players there as I said, not surprising. Pretty standard squad I think some people over on the Miller side was pushing for Rogers to get into the team but I think yeah it probably needs to show a little bit more consistency maybe to make his way in but it is for the Nations League games coming up and the first game that's coming up is a is against Greece that is tomorrow at I think it's a quarter to eight to kick off at the Nations League so England are in league beat group two and they are joint top with Greece, greeter top on goal difference so having scored one goal, goal more

Significance of International Breaks

00:10:03
afcbournement
than England. So looking ahead to this game,
00:10:09
afcbournement
interesting one, you know, because he's done everything, I guess, asked of him, you know, in terms of winning his games in charge. can't really ask for more than that. He's won his games, could performances have been better, could have scored more goals while if he scored more goals they would be actually chi be top.
00:10:40
afcbournement
Maybe sell, I mean you look against the game against
00:10:43
afcbournement
Ireland and first half was a really good performance with DeclanRise and Jack Grillish getting on the score sheet. Obviously who have I think they have like Irish passports or used to play for their youth teams and made some friendly appearances.
00:10:56
afcbournement
And so you look at that game, you know, and England were obviously at the dominant team and 16 shots on target, 16 shots, nine on target, majority of the possession. possession Maybe you would have expected the biggest scoreline and maybe even more so against Finland, here at the bottom of of the group, 20, 22 shots and eight on target and early 80% possession and and, you know, only scoring two goals in the second half. so
00:11:23
afcbournement
then There we have it, you know that's the two two results that Lee Carsey have had so far. but you know Just win your games. A lot lot of people, I think Dom included, although I don't want to speak on his behalf.
00:11:40
afcbournement
don't really like international break and really like the format of the Nations League. I think, you know, the Nations League is better than standard pres and we brought preseasing the standard the standard international friendlies we had beforehand, make them a little bit more competitive. I do think from a national team perspective, you know, to have international breaks while not always good and sometimes in interrupts club teams flow.
00:12:11
afcbournement
and momentum, I think for the international competitions that come around every is it every two years, you know it's good to have these international breaks that help the teams kind of get warmed up for them. So I think international breaks are needed. needed. um It's just how they are structured and maybe in a way that makes the games and more competitive or a bit more enjoyable, maybe. Although, while I would say it, I think I alluded to it in and a previous episode that I kind of like <unk> international break-ons some in some aspects because we're your club team, or I am club team way more emotional than I am with England, right? Even in World Cups and European Championships. and so
00:12:59
afcbournement
It's all like i I can watch a game of football if I watch the game of football and just like enjoy the game of football Rather than being anxious right or feeling anxious and and stuff. So That's what I would say on on like the international break from my perspective. Let me know what you how you feel about international break you can reach us on all platforms at GSP and Bournemouth and Have your say there So, looking ahead again to the Grease Games, so it's coming up tomorrow. I'm not sure in terms of team selection what

Prediction for England vs Greece

00:13:32
afcbournement
Ecosy Ecosy will go for. I don't expect you know like players MorganGibbsY or
00:13:42
afcbournement
I don't know. Let's, let's have a look. I'm like more Morgan, it's why, or like Nick Pope to start, right? You know, like goalkeeper. I'm expected Jordan Pickford back for, I'm expecting Trent. Gay. He John stones. probably Lewis at left back. I'm expected in midfield, you know, Declan rice, juice, Bellingham.
00:14:10
afcbournement
Again, it depends on formation, but let's just go 4-3-3 because that's that that's my personally my favorite. Although, in the last game against we did go 4-3-3. Or 4-2-3-1, 4-3-3, Jack really was kind of liking that number 10. So, yeah.
00:14:34
afcbournement
I'm then expecting Bellingham, Rice, and maybe Mainium in the field and then a front three of Grealish, Kane and Saka if Kane can make this game because he's also one that I think picked up an injury.
00:14:52
afcbournement
in the last Bayern Munich game and from from what I'm aware, from what I've seen. So, I mean, it's not going to be too different to the team that played against the Irish. would probably, Will Coles, I left back, he did it, he did in that game. We'd kind of like to see Rika Lewis come in. There obviously is no Harry Maguire in this squad, so that position is definitely going to change.
00:15:15
afcbournement
And then it's just, yeah, and then it's just the decision if it's the rest of the team stays the same or if it makes those changes. But yeah, the prediction I gave there is a few changes there to well how we started against the Irish. So school prediction against Greece, interesting in one really, I think
00:15:40
afcbournement
England will win. It's at Wembley, you know, and you know just expect in England to really dominate the group if I'm totally honest with you. I'm expecting them to dominate the group. Yeah, so school-wise, I'm thinking
00:16:07
afcbournement
Seeing as the other two games have been 2-0, I'm going to stick with 2-0. I think from a Greece perspective, I don't obviously follow football. I'm not sure on many of their players.
00:16:24
afcbournement
costas Costas, Tsimakas, which obviously plays for Liverpool. You've got the, is it Maru Panos? He plays for West Ham, so a couple of players in the Pringle League, and there's a goalkeeper I think that plays for Newcastle, although I'm not going to even try and pronounce his name. So a couple of names recognised there, but I don't think we're at the height of greece yeah Greek football so not too familiar but yeah I'm expecting England to win and I'm gonna go 2-0 for this game and we always like to do goal scorers so goal scorers if Harry Kane's fit and if he plays I'm gonna go Harry Kane and
00:17:14
afcbournement
expecting Jack release to score again. So her game and Jack release obviously depending if if anything happens kind of with pullouts of

Wrap-up & Future Episodes

00:17:23
afcbournement
injuries and stuff. So that's pretty much looking ahead to tomorrow's game. and Thank you for tuning in and listening to this episode. In the next episode, I'm going to continue on the theme of International Break, as there is another game for England. There's two games in this International Break for us, and the second game is going to be on Sunday. okay So Forecast Friday's episode is going to look ahead to that game, which is at 5pm on Sunday the 13th of October.
00:17:58
afcbournement
And so obviously by then we'll know what's happened in the first day match. so There we go, but thank you for tuning in. International Break. Enjoy it as best as you can.
