Introduction and Episode Theme

00:00:10
AFC Bournemouth
Hi everyone. Welcome back to daily Bournemouth podcast with me, one of your hosts, you guys. And today I'm joined by Dom. Dom, are you there? How are you doing?
00:00:20
Dom Thorn
I'm here. I'm here. I'm good. Thank you, Luke. How are you?
00:00:23
AFC Bournemouth
I'm very well. Thank you. I'm very well. And in this episode, everyone, we're doing a little bit of a Ballon d'Or kind of themed episode because that was, so this is going to go on Wednesday.
00:00:33
AFC Bournemouth
So I think that was on Monday. If I'm right, Dom was that,
00:00:36
Dom Thorn
Yeah. Yeah, Monday.
00:00:38
AFC Bournemouth
Yeah, okay, cool. So yeah, I mean, Don will kind of chat beforehand before we started to record this episode and thought, oh, you know, that could be quite good for this World Card Wednesday. But we're doing it through the lens of the 10, so the top player for, um the top players for Bournemouth over the last 10 seasons. So the players that we think I've been the best during the last 10 seasons.
00:01:06
AFC Bournemouth
Again, these are all going to be our personal opinions, guys. so yeah Don't shout us too much on social media or whatever.
00:01:15
AFC Bournemouth
but but yeah so and this This idea is all pretty much down to Dom. Dom, thank you for bringing this idea to us, to two the episode today.
00:01:22
Dom Thorn
No, thank you. Any chance to reminisce is always welcomed in my eyes.
00:01:31
AFC Bournemouth
Yeah, yeah, definitely. So let's let's kick this one

Bournemouth's Premier League Journey Begins

00:01:35
AFC Bournemouth
off then. So I was thinking that if we start from kind of this season and then like work backwards, and you reminded me actually beforehand, so 10 seasons is when Bournemouth first got promoted to the Premier League. And and so and obviously the season's in between. So if you win the championship, I've got men. So yeah.
00:01:52
AFC Bournemouth
yeah, we'll kind of start from from this season this season. So this season so far, of course, we're only like three months in nine games. who Who is the top player for this season so far for yourself, Dom?
00:02:10
Dom Thorn
I think it's a toss-up between two for me. It's a toss-up between Ryan Christie and Semenyo. I think Lewis Cook could probably count himself quite unlucky as well. I mean, I'm not sure he'd be overly bothered hearing my top players of this season, but if you are listening, Lewis, I am sorry. i think I think this season I'll have to give it to Ryan Christie so far. I just think he's been so influential. I mean, one of the key key points of evidence for that for me was the Arsenal game where as soon as he came on like the game basically flipped on his head he just dictated everything he was so important in midfield and you can't ignore the goals that Semenya has scored this season as well but I do just think this season so far. I'll give it to Christie so he's my first pick in my Ballon d'Or-esque list for Bournemouth players
00:03:02
AFC Bournemouth
Interesting. Yeah, I mean, I think, ah ah yeah, it's a difficult one because I think for me, like because when you is our top scorer, like there's something within me that feels like I just like need to give it to him.
00:03:13
Dom Thorn
and Yeah, if it was wrong, it's not picking, doesn't it?
00:03:18
AFC Bournemouth
Yeah, it it does because he you know he has has a good season and that's one error on the pitch where, you know, like struggling to score goals. And so for him to you know be stepping up and scoring goals, yeah, I'm going to have to give it to some

Valuation of Key Players

00:03:29
AFC Bournemouth
menu. But ah ah just to kind of throw a quick question in there, who do you think is the player this season who from like a market value perspective is like worth the most, if that makes sense?
00:03:42
Dom Thorn
Oh, that's a really good question. I think again, you're probably looking at some menu, Kirk has potentially because obviously he's young and they're big clubs sniffing around him before anyway.
00:03:55
Dom Thorn
And then probably so Ronnie, you know, I mean, he's only people forget how young he is.
00:03:58
AFC Bournemouth
Hmm.
00:03:59
Dom Thorn
And he's, he was a football manager, wonder kid as well, wasn't it? So people already knew who he was. So I think you're looking at those three. None of them have English tacks on top of the Meeva, so you can't just get an extra 20 million for them being English.
00:04:12
Dom Thorn
So I think, i think yeah, you you're you're looking at those three.
00:04:13
AFC Bournemouth
True. Good point.
00:04:16
Dom Thorn
Probably Semenyo just about at the top, I'd say, because he's an attacker.
00:04:21
AFC Bournemouth
Interesting. So on the menu, before we move on to last season, what would you put his worth down as what figure would you snap you know put on his head?
00:04:33
Dom Thorn
I've heard 40 million be touted a few times. I think we could maybe get a little bit more for him. Not saying he's worth over 40 million pounds, but i think I think that's the sort of figure we'd be looking to get for him. I mean, but were talking me and Vic were talking about before. We bought him for barely anything. It wasn't even 10 million if I remember correctly. So to make over quadruple the amount you spent with him,
00:04:59
Dom Thorn
by selling them i I don't think that's a bad return, but yeah, I'll probably say about 40.
00:05:04
AFC Bournemouth
Hmm. Interesting. Yeah, I would say, yeah, between 30 and 40. And then, you know, in transfer, you know, obviously I'm not trying to, or not, not trying to sell our players or anything, but you know, like you're always trying to like push for more when clubs come in, right?
00:05:17
AFC Bournemouth
But, uh, yeah, in terms of pure market value, would say probably between 30 and 40. And who knows by the end of the season, keep scoring goals that will only go one way, wouldn't it?
00:05:27
AFC Bournemouth
So, there we go.
00:05:27
Dom Thorn
Yeah.
00:05:30
AFC Bournemouth
Okay, cool. So season 23-24, best player.
00:05:36
Dom Thorn
There's only one person to pick, isn't it? It's Slanky. Like, just by far and away our best player, best individual season for a striker we've ever had in the Premier League.
00:05:39
AFC Bournemouth
Hmm.
00:05:45
Dom Thorn
One of the best individual seasons I can remember ever for a player, watching Bournemouth, obviously got this big move at the end of the season. Was unlucky to not get to the Euros in my opinion, just blown away, even now when I think about it and you see him play for Tottenham, who obviously aren't doing particularly well at the moment, ah ah you just remind yourself of how good he really is. And last season he was just a cut above the rest from everyone. I mean, over 20 goals in all competitions. I think it's a bit of a no brainer, that one. So and we've we've said it about before, if I carry on talking about him, I'll just make myself a bit upset because I do miss him still. But yeah, Solanke for me. What about you?
00:06:26
AFC Bournemouth
Yeah, I've got to agree with you. know, top scorer and obviously he's easily put in and got his move to to a top. Would you say Tottenham is a top six club or a top eight club? Not sure.
00:06:38
Dom Thorn
I mean, they can't seem to figure it out for themselves at the moment, can they?
00:06:39
AFC Bournemouth
and
00:06:42
Dom Thorn
Beat my United 3-0 and then they go and lose to Palace and throw in leads away all the time.
00:06:42
AFC Bournemouth
Yeah.
00:06:48
Dom Thorn
I put them top eight, I'd say, at the moment. but
00:06:51
AFC Bournemouth
yeah to yeah to a club you know kind of yeah kind of more top half of the table so yeah i i have to agree with you so kind of on salaki do you think his move to like do you think he will
00:07:13
AFC Bournemouth
for one of a better phrase, come through Tottenham, if that makes sense, because obviously he was it before Bournemouth, a couple of other big clubs, although he was much younger, I get that. live Liverpool, Chelsea, you know, going to, again, a club that wants, okay, wants to be kind of fighting for Europe and Champions Leagues and kind of trophies and stuff, even though they are probably away from that now. But yeah, do you think, you know, he will,
00:07:42
AFC Bournemouth
Yeah, but fulfill more of its potential at kind of one of those more bigger clubs.
00:07:47
Dom Thorn
I think he's got the platform too. I think he has the ability to. I just think it depends on the environment that he's in and just the other players around him because when you watch Tottenham at the moment, it's just that it just seems to be a general lack of cohesion slash tactical now that's holding them back. I think Tottenham is actually a really good fit for him. The way that they play when they are playing really well. I mean, you saw it again, like against United, he was it was brilliant in that game. You just
00:08:17
Dom Thorn
leads the line so well and he holds the ball up so well. any any top I'll go out on a limb and say any top four team would be lucky to have him. So yeah, I think he does. I think it's a good question though, because obviously you're absolutely right. He played for Liverpool and Chelsea before he came to us on the tees as well. But he was, like you said, he was still young, so he's mature and he's just reached his peak. I think he i think the sky's the limit for him, really. It just depends on the players around him and the manager he plays for, I'd say.
00:08:47
AFC Bournemouth
Yeah, and he he had a little bit of a difficult start and he did not score for a few games and then you people kind of jumping on him and then obviously scored and has hit, you know, got his first and that since so long season.
00:08:58
AFC Bournemouth
Let's see how he

Seasonal Standouts: Billing vs. Lerma

00:08:59
AFC Bournemouth
does at the end of the season.
00:08:59
Dom Thorn
Yeah.
00:09:01
AFC Bournemouth
So season 22-23.
00:09:07
AFC Bournemouth
Is it going to be Slanky Game for you?
00:09:10
Dom Thorn
it's It's not actually. So that was the season where Jefferson Lerman was voted our player of the season. But I actually disagreed with it at the time and I still disagree with it now because I think our player of the season that year was filling actually.
00:09:24
AFC Bournemouth
Interesting.
00:09:25
Dom Thorn
He was remarkable. He was George top goalscorer. I think him and Solanke had the same amount of goals in the Premier League. I can't quite remember. think they played the same amount of games as well. He dug us out some really tricky really tricky situations that we found ourselves in, scored a couple of really good goals. The one against Nelson Forest from about 30 yards out really sticks out when I think about it.
00:09:49
Dom Thorn
he's one of the most underrated players I think we've ever had and I think it's just a bit of a shame now that from the way that Iriola wants to play the system doesn't really suit him so he's sort of fallen him by the wayside he's still easily one of our better players, but he just can't find himself in in the midfield that we've got at the moment. And that season for starting off with turgid Scott Parker ball and then having to play Gary O'Neill ball as well. He was just a standout. And, uh, yeah, I thought it was brilliant in that season. And if he does go to season in January, I will be quite gutted, but I hope he goes somewhere and he shows everyone what he can do because he was just, yeah, it was just phenomenal that season for me.
00:10:31
AFC Bournemouth
Interesting, because I was going to ask like what's kind of happened go to him.
00:10:37
Dom Thorn
hmm no he hasn't got the he hasn't got the legs and not in terms of the fact that he's not fit enough because he absolutely is but he's just not he hasn't
00:10:37
AFC Bournemouth
But yeah, as you said there, just yeah, style of play probably doesn't suit his game as much as some of the other options.
00:10:59
Dom Thorn
he's not as quick off the mark as Kirk and Christie and some of our other midfielders obviously we both know that the one thing that Iriola wants is for the midfield to be difficult and tricky to get through whereas Billing he's better with the ball and better at carrying the ball and bringing it forward and making those runs as opposed to closing people down really quickly so Yeah, he's just unlucky, I'd say. That's all it boils down to. He's by no means a bad player and I do hope he he leaves for his sake, really, so he can carry on showing everyone how good of a player he really is.
00:11:31
AFC Bournemouth
Yeah. So like from here, I'm going to go on. Well, I'm going to be honest with everyone and be like. Like. While I we know so.
00:11:44
AFC Bournemouth
you're probably going to be much more knowledgeable than me in terms of Bournemouth seasons like from here on in. But um I'm going to stick with the player of the season that was that season and say Jefferson Lermer.
00:12:00
AFC Bournemouth
I was quite surprised. but So he left he left on a free, didn't he? To Palace. But yeah, like I always say kind of
00:12:05
Dom Thorn
Yeah he did.
00:12:10
AFC Bournemouth
hate it when players leave on freeze, you know especially when you when you can try and get some money for them.
00:12:13
Dom Thorn
Yeah.
00:12:15
AFC Bournemouth
But yeah i yeah, I'm a little bit biased as well, I guess, with that choice because he was just like over one of my favorite players. and Just like, yeah, just kind of like in that defensive mid-roll and
00:12:28
AFC Bournemouth
Yeah Bill it billing I said didn't have a very good season and to school the same our goals as like the center forward You know, it goes goes to show that right? So Cool so well, yeah, well that was 22 no. Yeah, that was 22 23 was it Yeah, okay. So let's do 21 22 Again, like so from here, you're going to be much more knowledgeable than I am.
00:12:59
AFC Bournemouth
And I have to like think back to actually the season, because I caught some games here and there. But obviously, yourself being a season tick order and that, you know you go to probably like every game, am I right?
00:13:10
Dom Thorn
I tried to get to every game, yeah.
00:13:13
AFC Bournemouth
Yeah, so.
00:13:14
Dom Thorn
No pressure on um pulling out a really bad shout from me then. So it's funny. I mean, that season, obviously we came up, we should have done a lot better than we actually did.
00:13:27
Dom Thorn
I am Scott Parker's number one hater. I really don't like him at all. But what he did do was, Scott Parker, I don't think we have enough time in his podcast to go over it.
00:13:33
AFC Bournemouth
Why?
00:13:37
AFC Bournemouth
Okay. that That, my friend, is another world called Wednesday. Like, managers. like Managers we like and don't like.
00:13:44
Dom Thorn
you You could give me two hours and I still don't think I'd have enough time to be honest with you. But i will I will very happily talk to you about Scott Parker in another day. But the the season we came up, obviously playing under him, he gave the platform to someone who played really well on Saturday as well. And that is Mr. Mark Travers. He was my player of the season for that season. He was unbelievable.
00:14:08
Dom Thorn
Really, really good.
00:14:08
AFC Bournemouth
Interesting. OK.
00:14:11
Dom Thorn
But I mean, he had a couple of shaky games here and there, but just his overall general presence and maturity really benefited everyone. He was really commanding in the box.
00:14:21
Dom Thorn
Something that I feel like he's sort of lost, probably because he hasn't been playing as frequently as he would like to be.
00:14:24
AFC Bournemouth
Hmm.
00:14:29
AFC Bournemouth
I was going to say that season, he was the number one, because what were the other options? Was it Night? Is his name Nyland?
00:14:35
Dom Thorn
Yeah, Oliver Nyland, yeah.
00:14:35
AFC Bournemouth
Was it?
00:14:36
AFC Bournemouth
Yeah.
00:14:37
Dom Thorn
He was probably my worst player that season, he was dreadful.
00:14:39
AFC Bournemouth
Okay.
00:14:40
Dom Thorn
But Travers, you just felt confident and as all the pundits, I was listening to Gary Neville talk about goalkeeping, saying that he wants your goalkeeper to be violent when he comes out of the box.
00:14:51
Dom Thorn
Like pushing people out of the way and smashing through people and that's what he did. And it just instils a confidence in your back line, which then allows you to progress higher up the pitch about that fear of being caught on the counter.
00:15:02
Dom Thorn
So I'd go for Travers for that season, really, really good. And it was amazing to see how well we played on Saturday because that goalkeeper's clearly still in there, which is fantastic to see.
00:15:15
AFC Bournemouth
Interesting stuff. So I'm gonna go, I'm just trying to think back to that season, I'm on memory.
00:15:22
Dom Thorn
Well, it's actually sport for choice, I'll say that.
00:15:25
AFC Bournemouth
Yeah, because I didn't, I think I touched a lot of the but games.
00:15:32
Dom Thorn
I mean Solanke did hit 30 goals so I do feel quite bad not saying him but I've already said him once though.
00:15:39
AFC Bournemouth
Yeah, I'm not sure. I'm not sure.
00:15:43
AFC Bournemouth
Well, I'm thinking we we're going to go to a break because I realize we haven't done a break yet. So we'll be right back. Well, I think on this and remind myself of maybe some season stats from from that season.
00:16:06
AFC Bournemouth

00:16:59
AFC Bournemouth
Everyone, welcome back. So before we went to that little break, I was kind of slacking on season... What season are we on? 22-23. I'm not even sure what season we're on now. I think we're on that season. What season are we on, Dom?
00:17:19
Dom Thorn
21, 22, sorry.
00:17:20
AFC Bournemouth
Yes, right. I was like, is he's left me? 21-26.
00:17:24
Dom Thorn
Sorry, my mic just randomly stopped working. Full transparency, my mic just stopped working. that's what That's what happened. Very sorry. But yeah, 21, 22, the promotion year.
00:17:35
AFC Bournemouth
That was it. And yeah, I was kind of slacking on giving an answer, but yeah, I'm going to go with Selenki again, because as you said before, Handi did score so it goes And I think it was that season actually that I remember thinking like, okay, so he can score goals in the championship, but then like can he score them in the Premier League, you know?
00:17:57
Dom Thorn
yeah
00:17:57
Dom Thorn
yeah
00:17:57
AFC Bournemouth
Because like that's the jump that then to make, and then um obviously it's been proved since that he that he can.
00:18:05
AFC Bournemouth
So maybe an an an easy one, it to the goal scorer, but there we go. We will do just that.

Dan Juma's Moment of Glory

00:18:13
AFC Bournemouth
So we're moving on to 2021.
00:18:14
Dom Thorn
Yeah, yeah.
00:18:16
Dom Thorn
yes indeed the the weird season the season no one really remembers including me that well uh because obviously we couldn't go to the games could be so uh all behind closed halls bar two i saw two games actually i watched us play wicom at home and i watched us play brent for the way but for me that season not a whole lot to really choose from i would probably give it to Dan Juma, I'd say. He was the one shining light that season. He scored some ridiculous goals. The one that really stands out for me is against Norwich where he cuts in inside and he just drills it as hard as he can and flies into the top corner. and That was an unbelievable goal.
00:19:00
Dom Thorn
so Dan Dumer, Lermer again, had a really good season. No one really expected him to stay because obviously we got relegated and he was easily Premier League caliber player. But I'd say for pure excitement and especially with what we needed after having to play under Jason Tyndall for a bit who I've got all the time in the world for Jason Tyndall, but that was some of the worst football I've seen in a long time. And Jonathan Woodgate as well. So take my hat off to Woodgate. We did go on a bit of a run with him, but
00:19:29
Dom Thorn
Yeah, I'd say Dan Juma. I think he was probably probably the standout for me.
00:19:37
AFC Bournemouth
Hmm Yeah, I'm just looking at stats for for that season. Yeah, I mean I don't want to copy you on every single one, but you know Stats stats and stuff. Don't lie There was one season maybe was that season in the Premier League maybe would come to where I thought yeah I don't think it was a season where i where I thought Josh King was was amazing and
00:20:00
AFC Bournemouth
Yeah, never made maybe it's a different season. so Just try to think back when you're reminiscing.
00:20:06
Dom Thorn
Yeah, it was difficult as well because it was lockdown football and I don't know about you but I kind of bounced off football for that year because there are more important things going on.
00:20:07
AFC Bournemouth
you know
00:20:16
Dom Thorn
ah
00:20:17
AFC Bournemouth
No, yeah, yeah, sure. I mean, I remember kind of a lot, obviously, obviously, like a lot more games with a lot more games being on TV. I remember like Monday. No, not Monday.
00:20:27
AFC Bournemouth
they do Super Sunday, there was like a game on and like the normal time around like four half or then the later games on it, like seven and stuff.
00:20:36
Dom Thorn
Yeah.
00:20:36
AFC Bournemouth
But I didn't more what watch every you know every single game that was on TV or yeah, as as you said, kind of keep up to date with with everything, you know, just trying to stay sane.
00:20:49
Dom Thorn
Yeah.
00:20:50
AFC Bournemouth
So, yeah.
00:20:53
AFC Bournemouth
Yeah, let's go down to that season and move on to the next.

Ramsdale's Premier League Debut

00:21:01
AFC Bournemouth
1920.
00:21:05
Dom Thorn
another Another tricky one for me because we weren't that great that season. And then when we started to pick up momentum, and that was when we went into lockdown so we all had to stop. I mean, it's really difficult because for me over those over the next four seasons we're going to go through, well three seasons, there's only really There's one player who I'd want to say for every single one, and that's Nathan Aque, but I can't do that as much as I want to. So for this season, I'll probably give it to Ramsdale. It was his first season of Premier League football, first season that earned him a decent money move away to Sheffield United.
00:21:47
Dom Thorn
really, really solid that year. We can see that a lot of goals, but a lot of them weren't really down to him. Really athletic, passionate, got himself involved within a lot of fanfare, which was nice to see. Only missed a few games. I think he missed like, I don't think he missed any Premier League game actually, maybe apart from one. Just just an all round really solid goal goalkeeping season. So um'd I'd probably give it to Ramsdale for that one.
00:22:17
AFC Bournemouth
Yeah, I can't remember this season.
00:22:25
AFC Bournemouth
yeah yeah So, Kalamazoo was injured, wasn't he?
00:22:28
AFC Bournemouth
That season.
00:22:29
Dom Thorn
Yeah, off and on.
00:22:31
AFC Bournemouth
Off and on, yeah. Remember that.
00:22:35
AFC Bournemouth
me think, I'm just gonna recall my memory.
00:22:40
Dom Thorn
It's tricky, isn't it? you You forget how long ago 2019 and 2020 actually were.
00:22:46
AFC Bournemouth
I say it, you know?
00:22:52
AFC Bournemouth
You might disagree with me, you probably will disagree with me, but I might say...
00:23:01
AFC Bournemouth
I thought Wilson had a good season.
00:23:04
Dom Thorn
Callum or Harry.
00:23:08
AFC Bournemouth
harry Yeah.
00:23:09
Dom Thorn
Harry, yeah, he he did, to be fair. He scored some decent free kicks. I don't think many people would be anti that. He just couldn't defend. That that was my one biggest thing with him. But, I mean, we went down, if scoring goals was an issue and he managed to back, I think he was our second top goal scorer that season. I could be wrong. and I know that kind of got at least nine or 10, but I wouldn't be that angry greet with Harry Wilson, shout out to be honest with you.
00:23:38
AFC Bournemouth
yeah yeah i'm gonna go i'm gonna go with him so season before that really test my memory memory now 1920 yeah sorry 1819 1819 two years
00:23:52
Dom Thorn
18-19, I think. Too many years.
00:24:00
Dom Thorn
Who will I pick for that one? I mean, again, I just want to default and say Nathan Akke.
00:24:06
AFC Bournemouth
Yeah, um I'm going to take that one from you on a second.
00:24:10
Dom Thorn
I mean, Akke is applicable to any season he played for us, to be honest.
00:24:17
Dom Thorn
Callum will stay a good season. I think he got 15 that season, 15 or 16. Josh King had a good season as well. I remember Ryan Fraser as much as it pains me to say had a good season as well. i'm they They really clicked. David Brooks had a good season as well. We started off that season absolutely flying. We were annihilating everyone. I'd probably give it to Callum Wilson.
00:24:40
Dom Thorn
he he sort of, I don't think he really gets the credit he deserves because he was a really solid striker for us. I do think Solanke is better than him but he he served us really well for those few years and I know that one of the seasons we've got coming up, Josh King had an amazing season so I want to give it to Callum for that one and because again like what we touched on he missed quite a few games through injury as well and to come back with a goal every other game roughly is really impressive so yeah I want to give it to Callum Wilson.
00:25:11
AFC Bournemouth
Cool. Next season. Where are we at?
00:25:14
Dom Thorn
17-18.
00:25:16
AFC Bournemouth
How many seasons have we got left to go?
00:25:19
Dom Thorn
We've got four, I believe, including this one.
00:25:24
AFC Bournemouth
17, 18. Let's do it. Who are you going with?
00:25:29
Dom Thorn
I'm going to have to give this one to Aké, even though, like I said, I easily could have given it to him for the last two seasons, and I probably could have given it to him for the season that's coming up as well.
00:25:42
Dom Thorn
I know anyone who will ever listen to me will know how strongly I feel about this man. He is an absolute...
00:25:52
Dom Thorn
legend of the game. He's world-class. he I said to the people who sat around me, I said to all of my friends that he would win everything and he has. He's just an absolute beast. I've got so much time for him. Like I said, you could have given me two hours to talk about Scott Parker. You could give me two hours to talk about Nathan Akke. So I won't go on for too long because I know that we we've been doing this quite a while, but Nathan Akke for me all day long. Absolute superstar.
00:26:20
AFC Bournemouth
I'm going to go because I think he was top scorer this season. Keller Wilson, and I haven't mentioned him yet. Every season, even the seasons he was injured, when he came back, you know, injury spells within the season, always managed to score goals. So I have to mention him somewhere. So I'm going to throw him in for the season.
00:26:43
Dom Thorn
no so
00:26:46
AFC Bournemouth
Then we have
00:26:52
AFC Bournemouth
Go back, go back to 1617.

Josh King: A Hat Trick Hero

00:26:57
AFC Bournemouth
Cool, so this season, i I'm going to go with... I think this was the Josh King season.
00:27:05
Dom Thorn
It was...
00:27:07
AFC Bournemouth
Josh King.
00:27:09
Dom Thorn
Yeah, it has to be. He was on fire. I've never seen anything like it at that time. to have To be in the Premier League and to have a striker who scored that frequently was just so bizarre because I never thought Bournemouth would ever be in the Premier League, let alone have a striker who scored. I think he got 16. 16 was 17. I can't remember off the top of my head. He was just different level that year. I'll never forget the hat trick he scored against West Ham.
00:27:39
Dom Thorn
just so refreshing to see. And especially because like we keep touching on it as well. Cannon Wilson getting injured all the time. So there was quite a lot of pressure on him as well. But I would like to give a special shout out as well to Jack Wilshire because that was the season we had him on loan for the first time. And he was so good. So good.
00:27:59
AFC Bournemouth
Interesting, yeah yeah. But as you as you said, scoring that many goals got to be Josh King, so.
00:28:04
Dom Thorn
Yeah, absolutely. I agree with you.
00:28:06
AFC Bournemouth
career on that one. Cool. So we move on. And if you're aware of your listening, we would love to hear your, your, your suggestions as well. So it reaches on Instagram, Twitter X.
00:28:19
AFC Bournemouth
We're also on TikTok or they'll haven't posted there for a while. GSP and Bournemouth. And we're nearly done because we were approaching half an hour. So what season's this 15, 16 or did we do that one?
00:28:31
Dom Thorn
Yeah, 15-16 is one.
00:28:34
AFC Bournemouth
ah ah Okay. And then got one more. 15, 16K. My mind's going to go back now.
00:28:41
AFC Bournemouth
where what Where are you going?
00:28:44
Dom Thorn
It's a toss-up because I've got some different thinking about two players specifically. Benica Fovey, we signed him in the January. I might get some pelt to say this, but he was so important in the games that he played. He scored some really important goals. the The last bit, well, not last minute, but the late winner, Crystal Palace, will stick with me forever because that was my first Tuesday night away game in the Premier League. And I was really tired the next day, sixth form, and I got told off for going to the football on a Tuesday night. But I'm going to give it to Charlie Daniels, actually.
00:29:21
Dom Thorn
He was, in my opinion, unlucky to not get an England call up. He was so good that season. The stats don't really do it justice. Just up and down that wing every game, assist after assist, scored some really good goals as well. He was an FBL manager's dream that season. So I'll go Charlie Daniels for that one.
00:29:44
AFC Bournemouth
Yeah, I can't remember this season, so I'm just going to pick a name. um So actually, I'm just trying to think about what season was was that.
00:29:56
AFC Bournemouth
Was that the second season you were promoted?
00:29:58
Dom Thorn
first first season it's a good choice in my opinion he was so good
00:30:00
AFC Bournemouth
First season, OK. Or we were, and we yeah we were promoted.
00:30:05
AFC Bournemouth
yeah and I'm take the easy choice and agree with you because you've you've seen more games than I have that season. So so so yeah,
00:30:18
AFC Bournemouth
14-15. How about this season?

Jan Kermorgant's Promotion Impact

00:30:19
AFC Bournemouth
I mean, here, like this player is just like looking through the list because I'm looking at stats while while we're doing this to jog my memory a bit. some players that was like, wow, you played football enough.
00:30:19
Dom Thorn
yeah
00:30:31
AFC Bournemouth
You know, I can't even remember this season.
00:30:32
Dom Thorn
yeah
00:30:33
AFC Bournemouth
I don't, I don't even think I started watching. bu of that
00:30:37
Dom Thorn
It was a long time ago, to be fair. There are some really old names that are probably on that list. But one of the names on there is my favourite Bournemouth player from the past.
00:30:50
Dom Thorn
Well, probably my, arguably my favorite born player ever. The person whose name I've been trying to persuade my other half to name my first child after, but she's not having it. And that is a Mr. Jan Kermegan. Just an absolute sensation.
00:31:05
AFC Bournemouth
17 goals.
00:31:05
Dom Thorn
Yes, 17 goals, got lots of assists.
00:31:09
AFC Bournemouth
12.
00:31:10
Dom Thorn
Yeah, it was old when we signed him, started his career late because he had leukemia when he was younger. Would have absolutely torn it up in the prem as well if it wasn't for the fact that he was quite slow.
00:31:22
Dom Thorn
Just an absolute proper cult legend status at Bournemouth. We only had him for two seasons really and he an amazing player, don't have enough, don't don't have enough superlatives to describe him really.
00:31:40
Dom Thorn
So I'm going to go for Jan Koemken for that season.
00:31:43
AFC Bournemouth
Yeah, I'm looking back for the stats this season, because I don't remember the season at all. and There was some goal scorers, like, you know, there was Pittman, 14, obviously, Cumbergant, 17.
00:31:48
Dom Thorn
Yeah.
00:31:54
AFC Bournemouth
Matt Ritchie had a really good season, 15.
00:31:59
Dom Thorn
Yeah, you've got lots of assists as well Matt Riche that season.
00:32:00
AFC Bournemouth
But, yeah, back to my sister as well. Just to be different, because I've copied you a couple of times, my friend, I'm going to go
00:32:11
AFC Bournemouth
Hmm. I want to go pet one.
00:32:15
Dom Thorn
hitman interesting did score probably one of the best goals i've ever seen so i think that's a fair shout i mean you could give any of the players any of the starting players that season the nod for that award because obviously it's the first season we've got promoted so they're all legends in my eyes all of them
00:32:29
AFC Bournemouth
Hmm.
00:32:34
AFC Bournemouth
Well Dom, thank you for that. There were some seasons I would remembered more than others, but joggged jogged up my memory back into the past. so So thank you for that. And any final thoughts before we wrap this one up?
00:32:46
Dom Thorn
My final thought is, if you're going to ask me who the best out of all of those players are, it's Nathan Aque. He's the best Bournemouth player I've ever seen. I love him loads. I would cry tears of happiness if we signed him again at the end of the season. So, Bill Foley, if you're listening, sign that man back, please. Give him whatever he wants.
00:33:05
AFC Bournemouth
Yeah. or likeman or Or do you think, like you know when players like get to their end of their careers, they usually they usually like get to MLS or something, or now like Saudi, would would you like to take them back then?
00:33:13
Dom Thorn
Yeah.
00:33:16
Dom Thorn
Oh, a hundred percent.
00:33:17
AFC Bournemouth
Yeah.
00:33:18
Dom Thorn
In fact, I would even give i'll donate some of my wages to pay for his transfer fee.
00:33:23
AFC Bournemouth
There we go. There we go. Bill Foley, your you know if you're listening, I doubt it.
00:33:29
Dom Thorn
Well, he should be.
00:33:29
AFC Bournemouth
Dom is, yeah, yeah, should be. There we go, Dom, thank you so much. this one.
00:33:33
Dom Thorn
ah you.
