sports podcast network Hi everyone, it's Lydia here from the Daily Brentford. Today I'm joined by Vic from the Daily Bournemouth. How are you today Vic? Hello Lydia, hi, I'm great thanks. Flying as well as the Cherries, how are you? Yeah good, I mean we had a less successful weekend. I don't even want to think about Fulham beating us in stoppage time. Two goals. It's too sad, especially being a West London derby as well. Like now everyone at work, they were just making fun of me when I came in the next day. But it's fine. We'll move on. We'll move on.

ah Just a reminder to everyone before we get started, we are a new podcast. So please give us a review and a share on your socials as that would be very much appreciated. So I thought to start, Vic, I'd ask you a few

Bournemouth's Strong Season and Predictions

questions. How Bournemouth's doing? Obviously, you can start with the magic on the weekend. How are you feeling? You still happy about that. I'm always happy in general. Thanks for asking. But um yeah, we we are really flying at the moment. We are doing great. As you can hear in in our podcast, how positive we are. And this season is is really, you know, it's it's it's amazing. A great start in comparison to the last season where we only had one point in the first nine games. ah We've already beaten three teams from the top four this season. um So things are looking really great. And I always like to mention when people ask me this, um when we did the the predictions, pre-season predictions on where Bournemouth is going to finish, um my colleagues were a bit funny to me, right? The other hosts from Bournemouth, the other podcasters. When I said we're going to finish eighth, eighth position, ah well, with the game that Bournemouth plays now, that I'm feeling quite positive.

Impact of Manager Irola on Bournemouth

00:02:04
Speaker
I think we might be if we carry on playing like this obviously if we keep the form we might be going even you know above 8th well definitely I mean you're at 10th now and had a great start how do you feel like your new managers contributed to this oh Irayola Iaiola um he's great obviously everybody loves him uh he just fitted in perfectly um in one of the last few episodes um there was a thing that i mentioned um i was talking um about iraiola and um i was um i was actually talking to to, dom our other podcaster, and I asked him, do you think that last season if we lost to Burnley, he would have been sacked because that was the game that changed the that changed everything. We were 1-0 down first half, we turned around, they scored 21. And that was our first win of the season. um I think it was the 10th game um already. And if that didn't happen, I don't think things would be looking good for Irola. But seeing now the magic that he's doing with the players, yeah the high press, um and some position changes as well that he did amongst the players is just

Team Goals and Challenges

amazing. Semenyo is shining this season. Before Iriola, he was mostly coming in is coming on as a striker rather than the winger. um He started pushing him to play as a winger. Semenyo didn't like it. um I've seen one of the interviews as well where Semenyo did admit that. um the Yeah, Iriola just said to him, you can do much better as a winger. Trust me on this, trust me on this. And then look at him now, just exploded. um Ryan Christie as well, number 10, who extended the contract until 2026, was the same. He was a winger, right midfielder. When Irola came, he put him as a central defensive midfielder. Me, as well as 97% of the other fans were like, what are you doing, man? We've got the best CDM in, in I don't know, in in the last 10 years, I think. He's really doing an amazing job. And now it's paying off. Yeah, things are clicking into place, you know, um it's it's great and it was it was definitely obvious to see that on the weekend like that everything's sort of working and the high press like we'll move on to talk about it later but that's definitely what I'm worried about for the weekend um so you mentioned before you think that there is a I still say there's a chance you can finish above eight. But what do you think your toughest challenges will be keeping form? Well, definitely to keep to keep this form, that's it. And to see how how far can we fly um and how high. um um Yeah, i think I think we obviously, with the players that we have um on the sheet and um considering that we haven't got any European games to play, we're out of of one of the cups. We've got the FA Cup, I think, starting in January. um So, score depth- wise, I think we should be fine. So I would say, yeah, probably the biggest challenge will be just to to to keep this form. And in case we lose a game or two, how will that affect the players mentality? yeah And if they can bounce back um and also to try and keep all the players in the squad, right? Because winter transfer window is coming in a couple of months already. and That's the one bad thing about doing really well. I know, I know, I know. it's Again, this there's

Brentford's Premier League Journey

always a positive in everything, right? So if we sell one of our star players at the moment, we're going to make good money because we bought him quite cheap, you know? So, yeah. We'll see. I think from a Brentford perspective, we've got different challenges. We have always had issues with injuries, specifically this season. i'm i We brought in, obviously everyone knows all the drama with tony we then like he left we had bought a replacement in igor tiago over the summer but he then got injured in pre-season and we haven't seen him since and then we had wissa being injured like thankfully he's back but we've still got a few key players that are out. And as a squad with not as much depth, it has sort of reflected in our performances. And I think that we're really, really missing Rico Henry. And he's still out for ages. so Oh, the left back. Yeah, he's good. He's great. He's so, so good. He's good. So we're definitely missing him. And I think at the minute, especially with when I was watching our performance against Fulham on Monday, I think, yeah, we need to just find some of that magic that we had before and sort of think about it and try and get back to our previous way of playing instead of, I guess we are kind of limited because we are putting people in positions that they wouldn't normally play. But that is sort of an issue in terms of depth of the squad that we can't fix automatically. But we should I think we should be making some good signings over the winter transfer our season. We'll see. i But yeah, I mean, I've mentioned it before, but I am still reeling after Monday. It's full of magic. You're still always managing to be mid-table somewhere, you know. you it's a c cu I think since you went in into Premier League, you haven't been relegated yet. So um it's it's a good sign. And you're always, you know, you're never really close to that relegation zone. You always seem to be like, you know, safe on time, let's say. Yeah. um I definitely think it hasn't been, I thought when we went up, it would be, I mean, obviously I have faith in us and I, but I thought maybe we'd fall victim to second season, second season syndrome, but we haven't.

Preview of Brentford vs Bournemouth Match

00:10:21
Speaker
I wanted to ask you the same question, funny thing. first there you go I'll give you the delight if you want which Bournemouth players let's say three players from our team three players alright well obviously we talked about Semenyo before he opened the scoring city last week and you mentioned how he's just improved. His form has improved. I think maybe his new position, as you said, has something to do with that. Yeah. And yeah, he's played very well this season. So I think he will be very dangerous. And we did defensively all right on Monday, but then it kind of all fell to pot. I think Flecken was great in goal. I think it was just... Flecken was really good. It was just unlucky. And if you were to ask me which Brentford players will be the toughest to play, I'd say Flecken because he's in form. Yes, he... If I'm right, you haven't had a clean sheet this season yet. Yeah, we haven't. You're correct. And you won't have this weekend either. I think we've put him through his paces. But even though he's been really great and... Yeah, I mean, I think it's still the same. He's the goalie with the most saves in the Premier League at the minute. Is he? Yeah. Also, he's Dutch. I'm Dutch. I feel like... You feel like there's a connection. I'm saying with our left backer, because, yeah, he's half Serbian, so I'm Serbian. There is a connection. This is what I know. Yeah, I think even though our performance on Monday was disappointing, still, like, there were so many good things to take from this basically so yeah moving on let me think some other Bournemouth players that I'm scared of Van Nielsen started getting some goals I'll tell you that. You've got another Dutch player, haven't you? Yeah, we've got Dean Huysen. He's half Spanish, half Dutch. I think he's more Spanish rather than Dutch. It's the same like Kirk as being Hungarian Hungarian and Serbian. But yeah, Heisen hasn't played a lot since he arrived. He's only had, I think, three games in total since the start of the season. We bought him from Juventus for a good amount of money. I think it was around 19 million we paid for him. Great talent. But with Zabani and Sinesi now playing as a centre-backs, I wouldn't want anyone else, to be honest, to start. They're doing really great. They just clicked. They just clicked. And then the way that a high press is working is working for them. Yeah, I definitely think that's what I'm like most concerned about the high press like you saw as soon as Fulham came alive on Monday that's when we we crumbled like we haven't been as good on the counter stuff like that recently as we maybe were last season and so I do think that's because of our injuries things like that but also I don't know if it's the mentality of struggling a bit more that is just making us worse against these high pressing teams whereas in the past I think maybe we would have fared a little bit better but who knows who knows and I think another Bournemouth player I'd be have an eye out for Sinesi as well well yeah he's I have him on my fantasy that's the only reason I keep keep up up with with him it. How many players from Brentford have you got? I've got three. You've got three. That's fine. Do you have a Brentford player? I don't play fantasy. I just don't have time for it. I'm too good at it. I used to play fantasy in the last couple of years. I just don't seem to find time now to keep track of everything. I'll be probably logging in every three weeks or so. That's what's sort of happening to me at the minute. I just forget. Yeah, well, it is what it is. But yeah, I think you're right. I mean, Senesi, we saw that he knows how to score as well. It was one of the pre-season games where he scored a goal, actually. And yeah, they're just doing great. I mean, again, I wouldn't want anyone else to start the game in that back line. Senesi and Zabani have great chemistry. Zabani, who played last season, the whole season, and this season now, funnily enough, this season he hasn't had a card yet as a centre-back. No yellow cards, no red cards. He's just amazing. He's just great. But yeah, it will be interesting to see if Sinesi can score against the Beast as well. So other than you mentioned Flecken, is there anyone else you've got your eye out for? Well, obviously, yeah, your striker Mbemo. He can be lethal. And Johan Wisse, who's back after the the injury I think Wisse's strength is definitely the pace and if he will be playing on that left side where our right back now depending who our right back on the day will be but we're going to mention that when we do the team predictions later but But if it's going to be Smith, Smith is a

00:16:47
Speaker
bit slower. He's mostly playing on experience. He's good. He's great. He does an amazing job for Bournemouth. But if Wieser is going to be on that left side playing as left winger, I'd rather start with Araujo, who's got a bit more pace than Smith. Wieser is definitely he I mean he used to be our like superstar purely because of his pace well not only but his pace is like definitely something to watch out for and I think so when Tony left people were as I said before we brought in Thiago as a kind of like replacement but then he's. So I think it was like so exciting to see how Brian and Wissa have paired up at the front together. And I think that they really, they've shown what they can do together. And it's just, we're so lucky that Wissa's back from injury because I was scared when he was out. I was like, oh no. But yeah, they're back and let's hope they're back to scoring ways together. Not against Bournemouth, hopefully. Does it scare you that Brentford are unbeaten on home soil this season? Oh no. This is your chance to break that? There's always first time for everything, I like to say. And funny enough, I don't know if you remember the moments from the last season when we were playing Brent for the way. We drew 2-2 but we were 2-1 up and we only conceded because there was a mistake, a big mistake in our last line of defence. I think Kirk has made a mistake and I can't remember who he was that stole the ball, ran towards the goal and then just scored. And unlucky the game finished 2-2. But I'm feeling quite positive now with the form that we're in. Last three games, I expected four points we were going to get against these three top four teams. We got seven, which is boom, great. So I'd be happy with another seven points from the next three games, which means two wins and one draw. But I wouldn't mind having all three wins. I guess that leads nicely on into what's your score prediction for Saturday score prediction right do you know what funny thing is that lately I noticed that Brentford does score first but then they just lose it they just lose it that unfortunately seems to definitely. So I think, personally, I think there will be a lot of goals on the day and I think Bournemouth will take the points with the score of 4-2 to Bournemouth. 4-2, right, yeah. I'm going to agree with there being a lot of goals, but I'm going to be positive and I'm going to say 3-2 to Brentford 3-2 to Brentford right okay we'll see but yeah I think we're in agreement there that there will be a lot of goals there will be yeah so for all the people who do the betting stuff and everything there you go you can play you can try your luck and put the bet that there will be a lot of goals. At least five, as Lydia said. At least five.

Victor's Favorite Away Day Memories

00:20:10
Speaker
Lastic, will you be heading to London to watch? I was about to. I might change my mind in the last minute I did make some other plans when we went to watch the City game I met an old friend who I went to watch last season a game against Luton in Luton yeah I've never been to the stadium I wanted to get the experience of playing in the smaller stadium, walking through people's gardens on the way to the stands and everything. And it was brilliant. It was amazing. So before the game, I went in the local pub, the Cherries pub on the corner. It's like, oh, Victor, you're coming to Brentford game. It's like, yeah, maybe. Don't know. I'll let you know. That was the question out of the blue, so I didn't know what to tell him. But then, yeah, I checked my diary and I realised I had some other plans already in place. But you never know. They might get cancelled. So, yeah, I might make my way. I might see you there when we win. Let's see. So normally my question, you've kind of answered it. I always like to ask this at the end. Any favourite away day moments or memories? If it's in general, then yeah, I'd say Luton. I'd say Luton from the very beginning where we had the
00:21:47
Speaker
sort of like group of Bournemouth fans I think it was around 1000 of us and we had everything organized so we had one of the weatherspoons just for us we had had the police as well came over from Bournemouth, local police with us, just sort of protection wise. Had a great time in the pub. I usually hear, you know, don't get drunk because I want to watch the game. I want to enjoy the game. And especially if I go with the car, so I don't drink at all but um back yeah back in Luton I wasn't driving uh so it was four of us in the car and yeah I could have a few drinks and it was just amazing I think the fact that they let you have the whole spoons I'm jealous of that I love the spoons I mean well it's nothing special but because we were standing outside, but it was the banter. So we were a bit cheeky, actually. One of the fans had like dozens of stickers, right? Bulma stickers. So as we were stood outside, right? Everyone got a couple of stickers just, you know, to put them under the table on the side, on the the fence fence and and all all that. So by the time we left, the whole garden was surrounded with the stickers from Bournemouth. It's like new wallpaper, just Bournemouth stickers. Yeah, I think most of them were about one of our players, actually now a place for Brest in France, Romain Fevre. He's a great talent. And he signed for Bournemouth last season as one of the very promising players. But I don't know what happened with him. Just the form. The form just didn't work. We might see him again. We'll see. But with the team at the moment, I wouldn't change. Yeah, he's probably not got a space in there. No, I wouldn't change this. As long as it works, I wouldn't change it. Definitely. I think that's always good advice to follow. Well, I think that's a perfect end to our crossover episode. everyone for listening thanks from me lydia and from vic and make sure you give us a nice review and follow us on all our socials thanks everyone bye thank you cheers every club every day the global sports podcast network
