Welcome back to the podcast. This episode is a mashup of Vik's and Dom's reaction to Bournemouth's stunning win against Arsenal and what they thought of that red card decision, goals, and overall game as well as Luke's thoughts on the game due to some technical issues. Despite that, this episode reviews the game fully and we hope you enjoy it.

Technical Difficulties and Recovery

00:00:00
Speaker
Hi everyone, welcome back to your daily AFC Bournemouth podcast and this episode is a little bit different because we ran into some trouble on Monday and could not release a Matchday Monday episode. I have been doing my hardest to restore the files and good news! I have been able to restore 19 minutes of that conversation and will be sharing it with you today in this episode which is meant to be a Wildcard Wednesday, but instead we're going to tune in to the Match Day Monday, Match Day Monday episode that's with Dom and Vic where they had a great conversation reviewing Bournemouth's rather surprising win against Arsenal and then I will jump back in at the end of this episode to share some of my quick thoughts on the game
00:00:50
Speaker
So be prepared to share some of my great thoughts on the game as well. So that's the plan for today's episode. So that's the plan for today's episode.

Bournemouth's Surprising Victory

00:01:01
Speaker
So without further ado, let's dive into Vic's and Dom's conversation. Be prepared is a good one. It was a great win for Bournemouth. It was a great win for Bournemouth. Surprising is the conversation. Every club.

Global Sports Podcast Network. work The Global Sports Podcast Network and Daily AFC BOMIT. Hello everyone and welcome to our new episode of Daily AFC BOMIT. Here your host Vic tonight, today, sorry, beg my pardon, haven't slept much last night. And the legend, the legend from the North stand. Big Dom, how are you Dom? How are you mate?
00:01:45
Speaker
Very, very well. Thank you, Vic. Still quite surprised from yesterday, in a good way. ah But yeah, i'm really good. Thank you. Mate, I honestly, the euphoria ah still goes through me like I'm going to be like this all week. Like Arsenal, one of the title contenders, we beat them 2-0. I had the feeling we were going to beat them from the start, like from the beginning, even before they got the red card.
00:02:13
Speaker
we we looked quite even on the pitch um And I had the feeling we we would have won that game anyway, maybe not too new, but one nearly would be very, very close with some really good chances for Arsenal to come back. ah But before we dive into everything detailed about what happened on Saturday in Vitality in the home ground of FC Bulmut, just going to go for some quick advertisement and we can smash it.

Impact of Arsenal's Missing Players and Saliba's Red Card

00:03:23
Speaker
Every club. Every day. The Global Sports Podcast Network. work Cherries pick off Saliba Les Gunners. Right, where do we start? Don. I mean, the turning point was very hard, wasn't it? However, it's like you said, I said it's quite a few people. I don't think Arsenal really looked that great with Saliba on the pitch. Anyway, they didn't offer anything really. Their biggest chance was the Moreno chance after. I think Saliba had already been sent off by that point.
00:03:59
Speaker
Oh, yeah, it was the yeah, the the marina chance, the one which which was supposed to be a corner cake, actually, because when you look, yeah, when you look closely, yeah, that ball did get a rebound off. I think it was Sennessey, who was in front of him. Yeah, it was marinos first game for Arsenal as well. Great player, what a player like watching him send those passes like ah from one to the other side and turning the ball around, what a player he is. And obviously Arsenal, they were quite weakened, don't you think? Like with without Saka, without some other good players, Odegard obviously being out until next year. Yeah, I mean,
00:04:44
Speaker
they They just look really toothless, I thought, going forward. I don't think Havoc's had a particularly good game. I think Trossard looked really poor, which isn't really like him, because I do like Trossard quite a lot. I think he's a good player. I think the best player is probably Rice.

Bournemouth's Winning Strategy and Defense

00:05:02
Speaker
but he was having to do a million things at once it felt like because they didn't have as much cover at the back so then they were sacrificing their attacking positions anyway but I mean he started with four centre backs anyway he started with four centre backs and three CDMs so they're all they're already set up quite defensive and as soon as they went 10 men down well down to 10 men even they it felt a little bit like they were sitting back waiting for a nil nil to play out anyway but Yeah, first half they were poor. I thought we were decent in the first half, but in the second half, we just blew them out of the water in the end. We did. and And as we said, if that red card didn't happen, probably, probably
00:05:45
Speaker
draw or Bomet would eventually win one meal, but I couldn't see Bomet losing that game yesterday, not the way they started. And like you said, with four center backs and three CDMs, ah right? It's, yeah, it was even, even Raya, the goalkeeper who was brilliant in the last few games, right? He, his first pass of the game, I don't know if you, if you noticed the first pass It was a mistaken pass when we managed to cut the ball. I think his his attempt was to pass to Marino and then um to have cut the ball through and we didn't score.
00:06:23
Speaker
unfortunately, ah but you could see that from the beginning, you know, he he wasn't quite sure. And then when he went, it was across from Semenio when he dropped that ball in front and then, um and then did did another save that that was amazing save. But you know, it's, it's not the riot that we used to see the last few games, right? Yeah, I was that was quite lucky for Bournemouth.
00:06:45
Speaker
Yeah, he he looked like he was lacking quite a lot of confidence, actually. I don't know if the just the general game affected all of the Arsenal players, but even in the second half, he tried to play the ball out. I think he tried to clear it and then he completely miskicked it. Yeah. And Evan Nelson almost got there, but it it went out of play in the end. Evan Nelson even. But i'm yeah, he didn't look very confident at all. But The reason why he probably wasn't as confident is because we were up for it. We played so well. I mean, the triple substitution, I'm sure we'll get on to it in more detail in a bit, but that triple substitution was just an absolute game changer, really. It was, I think, Irieo had noticed that we weren't quite ah as snappy, maybe, in midfield as we should have been, and and obviously,
00:07:33
Speaker
Kristy came on and does what he normally does. You can see what the difference Kristy makes and the goal was just cherry on top. You could see since he came on the pitch, the ball started flowing. The game was much better. Cook again, amazing play. He was everywhere. Let's say he didn't stand out with anything in particular, didn't score, but he was always there. He managed to cover everything and everything.
00:08:01
Speaker
um For Bournemouth, Cook is like Rice for Arsenal, I believe, um the way he plays and he's always the one who stays in the defence and you could see that when we scored from the corner because Christie was the one to get into the box and score and really like wonderful, amazing goal and and I'm so glad that Christie actually scored because he's our number 10, right?
00:08:24
Speaker
Yeah, and but he never scores, does he?

Key Player Performances

00:08:26
Speaker
um I mean, score he he never scores and then he scores for Scotland and then he comes straight back after the international breaking, he scores for us. But yeah, go back to Cook. um I know we'll go on to players in a bit, but he was my man in the match. Yes. um On Saturday, he was sublime. He was so good. He was everywhere. And I think he doesn't get enough credit as he deserves from the wider football world so hopefully showcasing your talent against one of the top three teams in the league on a Sunday night on Sky will actually show people how good he really is. They should they should do the stats in depth um on on on Cook I mean it would be great if we could do if we could have our own show right and then have all these monitors where you can pause anytime and just you know show the the the rotation the movement and everything
00:09:18
Speaker
um But I think the whole defense of Bournemouth looked quite good yesterday. Zabani, no one went past him. No one went past Zabani. Kirk is aggressive as always. Even when Semenya had that chance, I don't know how Semenya missed those two. The first one, okay, but but I mean,
00:09:38
Speaker
he should have scored at least one from two. ah Both of them went like way over the crossbar where the first one that was the back heel from Kerkes if you remember to Dango and then wonderful cross and I don't know why he went with the inside of the boot when he could have just smashed it into the goal. I was like I couldn't believe I just couldn't believe because it was happening everything was happening in front of us and I was like right And then then then the second one, right, that went again over the bar. He went full power on it. And do you think that the 40 million pound word that's going on for Semenya, do you think that that affected him this game?
00:10:25
Speaker
Mmm Potentially, I mean he I can't remember who he's speaking to but he essentially said that his end goal is to end up playing for a European side which obviously all footballers are going to think that I don't see that as disrespectful in any way at all because that's just his Aspiration, but I do think the past couple of games some people might disagree with me He hasn't looked as sharp as he normally does. I don't know if it's the the sudden like attention that he's getting from the wider audience a lot of a lot of punditry pieces on him which he absolutely deserves but i think it might be getting to him slightly i think he just needs to just carry on doing what he's doing before i mean i remember at the beginning of the season when you said he could be quite selfish and i agree with you and in the past couple of games he has
00:11:17
Speaker
he's made the wrong decisions quite a few times. There was an opportunity in the first half. I think he could have laid it off one more time too. I think it was um I think it was Tavernier actually and he didn't. He took a shot which was blocked and it and it was like yeah just play one more pass. No one's got to think of you any worse if you don't score every game because we know how good you've been this season. So Yeah, I think, yeah, maybe the attention he's getting might be affecting him. 40 million pounds, by the way. He should, we should arguably be asking for more than that, considering the caliber of player going to 40 million now. But yeah, maybe affecting him ever so slightly. How much did we get him for? Was it seven, eight million, something like that? In and around. I can't remember off the top of my head. I know it wasn't an awful lot because it was obviously from Bristol City. I think we got about half the amount we got for Scott, maybe a little bit less.
00:12:12
Speaker
I think it was around seven, eight million. I i think you're right. but But those were the numbers. It was under 10. It was definitely under 10. And I think still yeah 40 is a good good money, especially because he's not British. He was like English player He would have easily go for 60 60. Yeah, so long as youre right? but Yeah Yeah,
00:12:31
Speaker
um yeah but let's see. Hopefully he stays at least at least this winter um And we get to see more we we try and squeeze everything out of him ah while are we still have him and and I wanted to talk about that red card ah yesterday from Saliba, but before we we we start ah we start um um having a conversation about Arsenal side, I think we should go for ah for a quick ad break and we'll be back to deliver more. Do you have a story to tell to the world? Every club.

sports podcast network And we're back to talk about that red card for us. Right, the first thing I'm going to say, if the game carried on if Aniston was offside, right? Have you seen that? It was a Trossard backpass though, wasn't it? So, because Trossard's played it back, then he would have been onside. I think that's what, if you watch it back, it's a really dodgy backpass. Was it a backpass? I didn't realise it was a backpass. Yeah, it's a really dodgy backpass from Trossard. He doesn't get enough oomph on it to go back to Ryan, who I'm assuming he's trying to get it back to. Ryan, that explains everything. No, so this is the thing. So I saw, I saw what, whilst I was walking back from the ground, a lot of Arsenal fans tweeting about how I've honestly been offside this, that and the other. And then I watched Match of the Day last night when I got in, because I only watched Match of the Day when we went. And I watched it back in the analysis, showed it, it was a trusside back pass.

VAR and Post-Match Reactions

00:15:16
Speaker
So all of the arguments that Arsenal fans have in this are actually completely obsolete and irrelevant because it was a red card, unfortunately.
00:15:27
Speaker
Now that explains everything, right? Because I thought it was, you know, why he just didn't, obviously I'm a Bournemouth fan, but that should have been an offside, but I didn't realize it was a back pass. I just didn't realize, but VAR, right. A lot of weird decisions lately against Bournemouth and now finally we got it in our favour twice, not once, but twice on Saturday, day even the penalty.
00:15:54
Speaker
It was non-arguably penalty, right? he I don't know if he would have scored or not. I think the way he kicked the ball, it might have been further than he wanted to. And I don't think he would get onto that ball in time, right? But then he went down anyway, so who cares? And ah yeah, cold shot from Clive Hirt. I was surprised that Vanelsen didn't want the ball.
00:16:23
Speaker
ah But we we all know what happened the last time, right? Yeah, I must admit, he had a brilliant game yesterday at Nielsen, but I am glad that Clive had set the ball off for him. I'm not going to lie. Yeah, it made us feel it made us feel safer, um at least. um at least But yeah, back to Arsenal, I mean, playing for 60 plus minutes with 10 players on the pitch. Obviously, we know a few games um before when they played Man City, they also were man down and they managed to resist up until 198, 99 minute ah when City scored because they all dropped back and they were defending great. But the case, yes, there was that they weren't defending. They were trying to go and get that win out of Bournemouth.
00:17:14
Speaker
And I think that's why they lost in the end. And we did something that we're really good at, and that's pressing, right? Yeah, I mean, yeah, the counter attacking yesterday was so good. One of the key things that stood out to me yesterday, well, too, was obviously a van with some pressing and tracking the ball that led to the penalty where he tackled Kivior. And then it was as soon as k Christie came on, I think it was his first ball that he played around the corner. I don't think Clive ah or I think it was Clive I don't think he actually got there in the end but we were just hitting them on the counter every single time and we just this ball yeah yeah and we just looked dangerous every single time we went forward even towards the I think it was like the 94th minute who now could have played Clive in to make it three nil and it was just possible when Clive had dived on his knees in the end because he didn't get quite a good ball yeah
00:18:10
Speaker
Yeah and this is the thing because we're we a team basically set out to counter attack, we're a team set out to press and we've got so much so many good players who will attack and drive at you from out wide and obviously the pace through the middle as well. I just think everything clicked yesterday, we just looked brilliant and I think after the Leicester game, which was a real disappointment,
00:18:33
Speaker
to come back and beat Arsenal who I know you were confident well optimistic for it because you always are and I love that but ah the podcast the other day I was saying to Luke I was like I'll be happy if we get an Illinois out of this and I'm glad I've been made to eat my words.
00:18:53
Speaker
so To be honest I that game against Leicester. I mean, let's not go back into it. that that that we shouldn't We shouldn't have lost that. But then again, looking at what what they did against Southampton, right? Came back from 2-0 down. And then, wow, they just smashed that penalty into the net. Oh my goodness. It was brilliant. But yeah, again,
00:19:17
Speaker
Arsenal even with 10 men, right? They were trying their best. There was that chance from Marino probably which was the closest one The nearest one for them to score I think if Arsenal would have scored and they would just drop back in defense and try to save that 1-0 until the end because after that is really good at it ah But then obviously not scoring they had to go in and and try for more um and um Rice, he was everywhere. He was everywhere. he he he He was just, I don't know. One thing that I didn't really like and it was at the end of the game when
00:19:56
Speaker
ah When players were leaving the stadium and everything and rice actually went out With boom of players on that side because he didn't want to see any fans. He didn't want to be bothered And you know, I I feel a bit sad because all these kids right they they they even people we we go there towards the game we pay to watch them play right and they make millions and And they cannot pay respect to the fans, right? To just take a picture, give an autograph to someone. How sad is that?
00:20:28
Speaker
Yeah, it is a shame, isn't it, when you have all of these, especially younger people, who look up to these players and see them as role models, to not give them the time of day at the end of the game. But at least our players will give everyone the time of day. Whenever I see them in public, they're always very nice. i I try to not bother them, but I think egos can get quite inflated, can't they? And then, especially after after a late game, a late loss as well for Rice, probably wasn't in the best of moods. but We're happy, yes that's the main thing, we're happy with the result and we can push on to Saturday for Villa.

Upcoming Fixtures and Future Prospects

00:21:10
Speaker
Right, time for a quick break now because you mentioned Villa and ah we're going to come back to talk a bit more about the Saturday's game and mention just a few bits from the next game against Villa and that will be it for today. Right, we'll be back shortly.

the Global Sports Podcast Network. So there we have it. Doms and Vicks. Vicks and Doms, whatever whichever way around you want it. Conversation and episode and review on Arsenal's defeat against us, the Cherries, on Saturday Night Football. And for me,
00:22:53
Speaker
Very surprised, very surprised. As soon as the result came in, because I was busy, I was doing doing some other stuff to be honest. So as soon as the result came in, I messaged our little WhatsApp group that we have and was like, great, great win. And just imagine being in the stadium as the guys were ah season ticket holders and stuff. So no one really get born with a chance. I know that here on the podcast, I didn't give them a chance when we'd done that episode with the guys from the Daily Arsenal podcast. And then when I spoke to Dom for forecast Friday, you know, we were also very, um not very optimis not very optimistic as I should say, but I did keep with my 2-2 draw. So I kind of got it right in terms of that we would score two goals. But yeah, you know, I think my thoughts on the game from what I kind of understand how the game planned out. um Red cards do change games, right? And Arsenal seems to have a little bit out of a
00:23:45
Speaker
problem there um so they're gonna have to sort that out but yeah from a Bournemouth perspective I felt very deserved win asked for very very flat during the game and um yeah I was delighted with the win and um you know with our fixtures
00:24:07
Speaker
i've mentioned a few times how I was kind of concerned where the points would come from you know Arsenal, Villa, away in the Man City at home and so with those three points especially after that very disappointing Leicester result um brings the mood of it but not to rest on all is there not to rest on our there we have of course Villa coming up at Villa Park and away record this season has not been great has not been great so um In tomorrow's episode, I actually sit down with Craig, who is from the Day Villa podcast. We kind of talk all about the game and stuff. And then on Friday, be prepared for a Never Forecast Friday episode. And I think Dom is also joining Vic for that one. So we'll go over some some highlights from past games and and stuff and look at head-to-heads and that. But yeah, in terms of the Arsenal game, in terms of what you've been listening to today, this was meant to be
00:24:59
Speaker
as I said in the very quick intro I did, um the Mondays episode, but releasing here on World Card Wednesday, a little bit of a surprise for you guys. And yeah, um it sets us up nicely going into that Villa game, especially because Villa have midweek action against Bologna, against Bologna in the Champions League. So, although I never like to see players get injured, um hopefully, you know, some of their better players can maybe maybe pick up a knock or two and um you know just just for the the Bournemouth game which would give us a better chance of winning the game but um yeah you know in terms in in terms of moving forward um yeah we're in a much better place I feel but again can't rest on our laurels from from this game and I think if we can go to Villa Park and get a draw and then
00:25:53
Speaker
The Man City game, Man City is Man City. They did kind of struggle against wolves. I think, you know, we kind of see where we are when we come to that game, when we preview and, and and and you know, obviously the Man City game. But I think that if we can, um yeah, build on this arsenal as a result in in the next game, that would be great. And to be honest, I would take a point going to Villa Park. But um yeah, in terms of the arsenal game, again, my thoughts is that Deserved win, asked him to look flat, Bournemouth were great. Good to see Clevat getting on the score. She's one of my favourite players for the Cherries. And so hopefully he can contribute a bit more to the team in terms of goals and assists and get some more minutes and stuff. But yeah, very, very good results, of course, no one expected and looking forward to
00:26:47
Speaker
the next one. So you've been listening to the Daily Bournemouth Podcast, a little bit of a different episode with and the issue that we had at the beginning of the week, not being able to get an episode out on Monday.
