Introduction and Overview

00:00:10
AFC Bournemouth
Hi everyone, welcome back to your daily Bournemouth Podcast with me, one of your hosts, Luke Barrows. And in this episode, with the last international break before the end of the year, we are taking a look at all things England in this episode. And it is in another solo episode, as I alluded to there. So yeah, we've had a couple of those recently. And in the last episode, we had Vic who done a solo episode.
00:00:35
AFC Bournemouth
So I hope you're enjoying these episodes. as yeah Sometimes time to get the bang, I guess, let's call it together, can be difficult, but still trying to deliver on episodes. Anyway, let's leave all of that in this episode. What can you expect?

Team Selection and Strategy

00:00:49
AFC Bournemouth
So I'm going to look at the team that Lee Karlsley has chosen for this last international friendly and obviously his last game in charge. I'm going to be looking ahead to the two friendlies in the Nations League.
00:01:03
AFC Bournemouth
Important you are an Indian fan, I guess, because if I think it's something like if they don't beat Greece and then goal difference comes in to play, then basically they won't go up to the next.
00:01:19
AFC Bournemouth
League in the nation's legal table within the nation's league. Although I'm not 100% Hot on how it actually works. Although I get the gist Anyway, so we're going to preview two games and and that as well And then what I will say is this week as well towards the end of the week when the two games have been played Probably myself. Hopefully if it can join me, maybe Dom We will review the international break at the end. So a couple of episodes this week, not normal service because it is the internationals, but then we will get back to normal service. So without further ado, let's dive into it and let's start by reviewing the squad that was picked for the last international break of the year. So if we start with goalkeepers, you know, it's not a surprise, Pickford's there, Dean Henderson is there as well. Although Aaron runs there, it all comes back into the fold.
00:02:16
AFC Bournemouth
ah ah Yeah, I'm a bit unsure about free goalkeepers for International Break. Do you need free? I'm not sure, because only one's going to play. But anyway, so we then move on to defenders, Caldwell, Kehui, and then we've got Lewis Hall that comes in.
00:02:34
AFC Bournemouth
harvard bellis also comes in for his first call up we've got consa and rico lewis as well and then kyle walker trent was also picked but actually if you look on the ah ah official england football.com website he's under midfielders which is a little bit you know okay cool so for england that's where he apparently is now playing So yeah, that's the defenders um from an official source.

Squad Analysis and Listener Engagement

00:03:02
AFC Bournemouth
And we're coming to, or we'll come on to, I'll come on to potential kind of dropouts because Trent is where he is after he came off injured in
00:03:11
AFC Bournemouth
liberals win over villa so i i was listening to an another podcast this morning and it was said that there might be a few pullouts over the next couple of days i'm not currently hot on what those pullouts are if there has been any when i'm recording this But yeah, let's see over the next kind of 12 to 24 hours what happens there. So in terms of midfielders, we do have Trent, as I said, there, down in his midfielder, although he could put drop out. Connor Gallagher, who's from All Report, started life at Aft Let's Go very, very well.
00:03:50
AFC Bournemouth
Morgan Gibbs-White having a good season with Forrest. Angel Gomez, who comes in or has actually been in for the last few squads. So senior camp, he's up to three now. We then have Curtis Jones, great season so far with Liverpool. Koppama, no surprise. And Declan Rice. Then forward, so apparently Jude Bellingham is down as a forward, according to again, the EnglandFootball.com website.
00:04:20
AFC Bournemouth
So we have him down as apparently a forward, but obviously he mostly plays him in the field. Same with Phil Foden, Anthony Gordon, Jack Grealish, we'll come on to Jack King in a minute, Harry Kane, Nonny, Maggie Weke, Saka Salanke, and Ollie Watkins, and then obviously Lee Carsley, his last.
00:04:45
AFC Bournemouth
interim game in charge. As I alluded to beforehand, some dropouts so certain dropouts might have happened. I'm not currently hot on kind of what's happening in terms of that as of recording this. But you would imagine Jack Relish would drop out. Pat really wasn't happy. I don't know if anyone's seen his press conference really wasn't happy that Jack Relish has been picked and it's kind of strange actually that if someone's

Significance of International Break

00:05:08
AFC Bournemouth
injured the England team would he would still get picked for the England team you know it's not even like it's a competition Europe is woke up it's nations league you know I understand in the summer Luke Shaw still went there was a chance he could be fit for later parts of the competition but I think for a friend basically like a little bit of a glorified friendly that's how people see the nations league why pay track because he is he is injured so that is a bit if I was pepper I actually understand his
00:05:35
AFC Bournemouth
frustration there, you know, like the guy's injured, like why are you picking him? I alluded to before and Trent may drop out due to injury and be interested to see whoever else drops out, you know, like last in international break, a lot of games going in now into kind of the really like the start of the season. I've always felt like the last international break after that, the start of the season's over, right? So we're now getting, in fact, the middle of the season, you know, when we come back, I think it's the 24th or something like that, up until probably the first international break of next year, which I think is kind of February, March time, like middle of the season, then you kind of have like the running towards the end. So, yeah, you know, I wouldn't be surprised to see
00:06:23
AFC Bournemouth
a lot of people, a lot of players, I should say, drop out and it'd be interesting to see to see who. A couple, I think we're all expecting is Jack and Trent, but yeah, it'd be interesting to see who else.

Match Importance and Predictions

00:06:39
AFC Bournemouth
So what I wanted to to kind of share also is some surprising conclusions, so I'm not sure how Howard Bellis' season is going, don't really follow him, it's a little bit of a surprise I guess to see he's in, you know never got a cap before Lewis Hall, I think he's had a few good games for Newcastle, so maybe not so much of a surprise and left back we do struggle
00:07:11
AFC Bournemouth
there anyway, especially when Shaw isn't around, Reka Lewis can play there, but we've probably seen in some Man City games, he's not a natural left-back. So ah is that like the biggest surprise in the world? Probably not. midfield, Kuchan is there on Merritt, so not many other surprises there. And then in the forward line, I guess the biggest surprise I'll keep going on about it is the inclusion of Jackie, even though he's injured.
00:07:39
AFC Bournemouth
they're not really many other surprises there. So, us leading the loose squad, is there anyone missing? Would you have picked anyone differently? If so, hit us up on Instagram, it would be the best place. So that's GSP and Bournemouth, type type this in drop us drop us a message if there's any be big, big, yeah, like big thoughts you have on those big thoughts. Anyway, like things you want to share on this. Things you want to share on the England squad for the the um international break. So we'll take a quick break and then we will preview the two games coming up for England.

AFC Bournemouth
Okay, so let's look ahead to the first game. Greece, England, so England go away. and To race in match day five of group. Apparently he's got group F in league B is a bit confusing and Yeah, so if we look at the table England is sitting second nine points grace top on 12 so like England have to beat Greece to go up to the next group so that would be a league B group a and
00:09:57
AFC Bournemouth
I know, sorry, league beat group one, I imagine that would be. Then if I get, I'm assuming goal difference comes into this. So they probably have to win like three nil or four nil goal difference for Grace is plus eight and goal difference for England is plus five, right? So it's a bit like, even if they were draws obviously not enough,
00:10:21
AFC Bournemouth
Even if they were in one meal, level on points, Greece is going to have a better goal reference. So yeah, they really need to win and win convincingly at the Athens Olympic Stadium. So that should be interesting. That should make for a good watch. that So that's on this Thursday, tomorrow, actually. Tomorrow, tomorrow, tomorrow. So that's kind of what's going to happen. you know

Performance Concerns and Episode Wrap-up

00:10:47
AFC Bournemouth
That's the predicament in that game.
00:10:50
AFC Bournemouth
Then we go into the final game, which is on Sunday. So like, obviously that situation I gave you there is if we're going to go into the final game.
00:11:00
AFC Bournemouth
and you would expect Greece to beat Finland and England to beat Ireland. And that's when the level on points in goal difference comes in. So the Greece game is really important because the the following game on the Sunday, you would imagine both teams to win. Goal difference could probably play a bigger part in that game as well. So like if in the first game, obviously I gave the example, if England don't beat Greece by more than three goals,
00:11:26
AFC Bournemouth
but they beat Ireland by by let's just say they beat Greece 1-0 and you know they would beat Ireland 5-0 and Greece only beat Finland 1-0 then you know England would go for it so goal difference is overall you know just looking at the the table is gonna play a major role in these next two games so England better get their shooting boots on which they haven't really had you know like recently so like if we look
00:11:55
AFC Bournemouth
back over the last couple of games. Obviously last to grace, 2-1. Only scored 2 against Finland, 2 against Ireland. So... and three when we went away. So it was two minutes feeling at home, three away, then it was two different, the difference was two because the game ended three, one. So yeah, like we haven't here, I think from a goal scoring perspective, goal scoring form, although, you know, two, you know, two, two nil solid wins. I think really the Finland game, especially at home, maybe you're expecting,
00:12:37
AFC Bournemouth
Four five maybe you know to to really push on there and then the grease one was obviously really really disappointing So that's kind of where we're at. That's where we're at going into this Going into this international break to be honest in a little bit of a predicament, especially if it came down to goal difference, right? And we're going to need to get those shooting boots on to ensure we get free to the next, or to ensure that for in relation to the again, we can, I guess the term is promoted to like the other
00:13:19
AFC Bournemouth
higher table league whatever again not fully understanding of the system but anyway so yeah that's where we're at so next up i'm going to do some score predictions then we're wrapping this episode up and what i will say is stay tuned for another podcast after these two games that will be the the kind of match reviews of these two games probably with myself in a vehicle Dom or Dominic or someone but let's take another quick break and then we'll be right back

AFC Bournemouth
Okay, so bringing this episode to a close, guys, score predictions. So in the first game, it's going to be difficult going away to Greece and I think scoring a bundler goes there in a way we kind of need to do. But I'm going to be my optimistic self and say that England will get the win. I'm going to say a...
00:14:53
AFC Bournemouth
2-1 win and obviously depending on pullouts and stuff. um I think I just checked. I think Trent did pull out. I just checked and Trent did pull out. Although I didn't read who came in, if anyone. Anyway, I'm digressing. Going back to it.
00:15:13
AFC Bournemouth
depends what with obviously the start line appears etc etc but um think hurricane always scores the right in it in miniature pretty much so i'm going to go hurricane and I want to say Saka, if Saka travels and goes and doesn't pull out, obviously he came off and I think did Rice did in the game on the weekend, Chelsea Arsenal. So I've got a little bit of a question about that. So I'm not going to say Saka just in case he just pulled out. So I'm going to go Harry Kane and Karl Palmer. And then in the game against Ireland, I'm going to go 3-0 and I'm going to go two goals for Harry Kane and a goal for
00:15:57
AFC Bournemouth
