Match Analysis and Key Events

13 yellow cards. What a game. 13 yellow cards. shown by the ref. The first one already in fourth minute, the way this went, I was almost certain somebody was going to get red cards, somebody was going to get sent off, but it didn't. So 13 yellow cards, no red cards in the game, no double yellow cards for any players. Interesting. When we did the episode, Dom and I on pre-match, and it was actually forecast Friday,
00:02:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
I was hoping BOMBOT is going to win. But the way the game went, I must say, Dom, when you listen to this, you were right. I was happy with the draw in the end. We scored basically, what, the last few seconds of the game. I'm glad that Evannilsson scored. I would be even more glad if Unal scored beforehand. But anyway, it's important that we managed to score, managed to get back.
00:03:19

and
00:03:21
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think i think we we got it back for the penalty, we didn't get awarded. Some fans would say it could have been two penalties easily, that tackle against Semenya. It's tricky, we can complain, you know, the VAR, I mean, he didn't even go to check the VAR, right? And same happened with the penalty, it's with the handball second time. so I think the ref clearly wasn't keen on giving any penalties on Saturday. And if the first one wasn't given against Semenya, the second one definitely should there have been a pen. I mean, handball in the box, their defender jumped. Actually, it wasn't defender, sorry, it was Leon Bailey. Yeah, if I remember, Leon Bailey, jumped, missed the ball, and then just fell on on his his wrist.
00:04:17
Global Sports Podcast Network
I don't know how is that not a pen, right? It's, he changed the direction of the ball. The ball went into the, into another corner kick, but that should have been a pen. and if we scored then, cause that was like 10 minutes before the end of the game, if we, if we scored, if you managed to equalize then who knows, maybe we, we could have turned the way that the result around.

Game Dynamics and Tactical Insights

00:04:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
anyway, second half, I think Bowman was much better.
00:04:43
Global Sports Podcast Network
The first 20 minutes, Villa did manage to shake us a bit and Travis was just astonishing on the day. A few saves in the in the first half where honestly I've seen i've seen it anything go. I've seen the ball already inside and he just he just did an amazing job. I don't know. When Neto comes back from loan, don't know what's going to happen with him. Kepa will go back to Chelsea the end of the the first ah half season. So I don't know, maybe maybe maybe it's time for Travis to become number one. There's a lot of speculations about why Kepa wasn't in goal. I was surprised myself, especially because when we did the forecast Friday, Dom and I, we did the prediction of of the starting 11.
00:05:35
Global Sports Podcast Network
And there were quite a few changes. I i didn't expect Unyal to start, but I was glad that he did. Because knowing that whoever comes on the pitch later will make such an impact. Considering the Sinisterre was injured as well, we needed a Vanuselm to start off the bench. and But I couldn't predict that, honestly. I just couldn't predict that.
00:05:59
Global Sports Podcast Network
and the Clivett, yes, we both did predict Clivett will start. Didn't see Tav on the bench though, but there we go. And obviously midfield the same, defense the same. Araujo got subbed in 29th minute, Smithy came on. Now, there will be a lot of talks about why Araujo got subbed that early, because that definitely didn't look like he he got injured. and We could see a few times on the screen that the cameraman was showing Iraola talking to Araujo, but with with a bit of anger. so I don't know whether whether he just wasn't good in his position enough or he was just staying behind all the time.
00:06:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
but Yeah, it was surprising to see the the player getting subbed without any injuries or anything halfway through the first half. And because of that, I believe that Smith will start the next game against City. Maybe it's just, I don't know, maybe just a rah of form dropped a bit. He definitely isn't a player that could play 90 minutes with full full on, but with sort of to to be on top level for all 90 minutes. We've seen that since he came to Bournemouth, since he first stepped on the pitch.
00:07:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
but he could do a good half, 60 minutes, considering that he's got more pace, he's quicker than than Smith, obviously, Adam Smith, everybody loves him here, been over 10 years in Bournemouth, and he got the the status of captain as well now, and he plays on experience.
00:07:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
But he's aging. He's aging. and And we need a good ride back to replace. Obviously, we did have Max Ahrens on the bench as well. Probably not ready yet to start because of that injury he had. But we'll see in the few upcoming games. Next one, big one, Man City. He's going to be tough. Last season, I want to watch, um will be going to watch the this one again.
00:08:12
Global Sports Podcast Network
When we played in Vitality, we only lost 1-0, but Beaumont was playing amazing, amazing. If I remember well, I think we even managed to hit the crossbar. So we had quite a few chances to score against City, and yeah, in the end, City did what they always do. is it's It's an expensive team, and you know everybody expects them to play great. There were no millions, billions, so ah ah yeah.
00:08:42
Global Sports Podcast Network
And another the one that I would like to also mention, that was a surprise for me, Tyler Adams. Dom and I did sort of mention that Adams might be on the bench, and he was, and he actually the did get his time in the end, but couldn't seem much changed, to be honest. so Again, I'm sure that his presence did actually make an impact on the the goal. And again, the way that Aston Villa is playing at the moment, their form and everything, considering that they're at the top table in Champions League,
00:09:28
Global Sports Podcast Network
I'm happy with the points now. And the two games that we ah ah played, the last two games that we played against Arsenal and Villa, four points, I'm more than happy because we didn't expect any. I believe that 95% of the fans would say the same. No expectations to get any points against any of those two teams. But we managed. we we We are doing well. And if you people remember last year and this time,
00:09:57
Global Sports Podcast Network
We were in the last three. We were at the bottom of the table. We barely had a few points. And this year, it's already looking way, way better. And Iraola seems like he knows what he's doing, right? 12 points from nine games. It's not great, but normally we go score with three, three, three. So three won, three draws, three lost, and goal difference 11-11. Hopefully against City, goal difference will be in our favor.
00:10:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
will manage to win and then sort of make it a bit more interesting at the top of the table. Try to give chance to to to Villa maybe to get in the top three. Right, time for a quick ad break and we'll be back ah soon after.

Post-Match Discussions and Reflections

00:11:57
Global Sports Podcast Network
Hello again. We're back. Your host, Vic. Right.
00:12:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
Also, not to forget to mention the Martinez top man, top keeper. I don't really like him. I think many, many fans don't like him because of just ah ah his behavior and the way he he behaves on the pitch. But he's a great keeper, I must admit. and key. He made a couple of saves that honestly, again, I saw the so so the ball inside. them There was, I especially remember one from Clive. It was actually very good power shot from range. Martinez just came out of nowhere. Boom. Corner kick. but It was a great save.
00:12:43
Global Sports Podcast Network
I mean, overall, no I don't think we would have any chance to to win that game. The way we we played first half, i I was just hoping for, you know, at least getting a point. We were lucky with that gold is allowed, which was correct. When the ball came out, it was in 28 minutes. McGinn scored, tried to place the ball with the left foot.
00:13:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
Travis was blocked, he couldn't see the ball, his right side was empty and Megan, yeah, just found it easily. But luckily before that, Watkins didn't didn't get onto the ball quick enough, so it did go past the line. Now, my question is, we know that there are sensors in this in these match balls, right? and the Usually the sensor would go red. So the the referees watch would go red, would turn red. would see the red light in case the ball crosses the line. That's in case of a goal. But goal kick is the same line. So I don't see the point if it's crossing the line anyway.
00:13:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
Why the watch didn't go red? Why the watch didn't turn red when he crossed the line? Why did he have to watch the VAR? This doesn't make sense. If VAR so far has turned over so many correct goals, incorrect goals, turned over so many decisions, right, this is a simple one. If it's got a sensor, crosses the line, it should be anywhere along that line, not just when it goes in the goal. Anyway, I'm glad that that that it it got turned around in in our favor because we would have been stunned with that goal if it stood on. I would have been, i would I don't know, I was watching the game on the telly and because it took a long time, I just couldn't process the fact that that the the ref is really checking that. You could clearly see that the ball did cross the line.
00:14:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
And yeah, luckily we we we managed to to sort of hold on until 76th minute. That goal from Barkley was a bit unlucky. was a rebound. It went over, literally just over over the shoulder of Travers.
00:15:07
Global Sports Podcast Network
Zabani tried to tackle the ball, tried to slide them after, but couldn't get the ball. so
00:15:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
When Villa scored, you could see that they they were going to defend for the rest of the game. They were going to try to park the bus and just save the result. I think Morgan Rogers also was ah ah subbed. And they tried to, oh no, actually it was Watkins that got subbed for camera for another midfielder. So they were trying to so ah ah play with five in the midfield, four in the back, and just one up front in case of a counter attack.
00:15:42
Global Sports Podcast Network
and And luckily, yeah, we we managed to find our way. We had two or three chances in the last 10 minutes, and they were all crosses from the left-hand side from TAV. And when I saw this, I was thinking, like one has to go in. One has to go in. Because the last 10 minutes, honestly, BOMIT was last, let's say last 20 minutes. BOMIT was way better.
00:16:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
and Obviously, going into the game after that 2-0 win against Arsenal, I don't know, it affects mentality a lot. its Players are sort of much more focused on the pitch and knowing that they got the win against the club who is fighting for the title.
00:16:33
Global Sports Podcast Network
Why could we not get another point or three points from the next one? And I believe it's going to be same with City. And if we manage to keep this going against big clubs, I'm pretty sure we will finish the top half at the end of this season. If you guys remember from one of the very first episodes we actually gave our predictions, it was Luke and I who who were hosting that episode.
00:17:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
We did give our predictions, and I said Bournemouth is going to finish in the eighth position this season, at the end of this season. It's not impossible. It's not impossible. If you look now at the table where we stand with 12 points between us and Tottenham, who is eight, it's only one point. They got 13 points from nine games. We got 12 points from nine games.
00:17:28
Global Sports Podcast Network
and the two above six and seven position, Brighton and Nottingham Forest. And it's not impossible. It's not impossible, right? There's loads more games to be played. 29 games, I believe left. Yeah, 29, so nine into 29 games left. It's not going to be easy, but I believe the boys can do it. And I believe we might have the chance Maybe not at the end of this season, but next season to watch our cherries in playing in Europe. Right, time for another quick break and we'll be back to mention just some players individually who left their their mark on the pitch and also to prepare the intro for the upcoming game against Man City. Be back shortly.
