Analyzing the Arsenal Upset: What Were the Key Moments?

00:02:20
Global Sports Podcast Network
So again, just to mention, we're going to be talking about last three games of Boomerth, Great Run, seven points in in the last three games against the top three. We'll start off with Arsenal. Dom, what are your thoughts?
00:02:38
Dom Thorn
Well, main thought is we've got five more points than I thought we were going to get from the two games. um I think, like, very quick and summarised feelings. I thought the Arsenal game, ignore what everyone says about Saliva being sent off. We deserved all the three points in that. The Villa game, which was probably the game we performed the worst in, I'd say. It's still an amazing point to get away from home at a Champions League club. Villa are flying. They've only lost one game, haven't they? I think it was against Arsenal.
00:03:06
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yep.
00:03:07
Dom Thorn
They're a really good team. I've got...
00:03:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
And again, Stoltenham.
00:03:10
Dom Thorn
Oh yeah, and against Spurs as well. Forgot about that game. And obviously City, first time we've ever beaten them. I did say the season would be the season would take a point off of them. But I mean, that just felt...
00:03:21
Dom Thorn
I haven't celebrated a win like that in the Premier League, I don't think, at all over the 10 years. Well, over the eight years we've been affiliated with them. So overall, a world-class three three games, I'd say.
00:03:35
Global Sports Podcast Network
And to just go through quickly with with with the first win against Arsenal 2-0, I actually had my brother from Serbia visiting me, first time in UK, long life fan of Arsenal and I promised him, just come and I'll take you to the game, you're going to see your Arsenal. But you have to keep your mouth shut because you're going to be with me in the Bournemouth fan stand, right? so yeah I've got the videos and I'm watching them almost every day when you can see his miserable face when Bournemouth calls the first one and then the second one and we're just jumping around him and he's just looking at you know at the green grass and that's it with the sadness in his eyes with with tears but you know he he started I'm not gonna lie but with Arsenal he started
00:04:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
to watch Beaumont games, follow Beaumont, and he started to fall in love with Beaumont, which I really, I'm gonna try and turn him over go from Arsenal to Beaumont. It might be impossible, it might sound impossible, but it's not impossible, or anything is possible.
00:04:43
Dom Thorn
No, exactly.
00:04:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
So, yeah, so I was wondering, you know, if if that red car didn't happen, when Saliba got red car sent off in the 30th minute, would Beaumont win?
00:04:57
Dom Thorn
Well it obviously helped us because I mean playing against 10 men will always benefit you but I don't think they offered anything in the first half an hour which showed they were going to go and get a result. I i was having a conversation about it the other day, rehashing the the game and the The only chance they had, the only decent chance they had was the Moreno shot that he dragged wide.
00:05:17
Dom Thorn
So they didn't actually craft anything.
00:05:17
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:05:20
Dom Thorn
And I think that's testament to A, how we played, and B, also how Arteta set up. I mean, he started with four centre backs across the back in three DMs. So I think they sort of had it come in.
00:05:31
Dom Thorn
I think we're the better team all the way throughout. Maybe it would have gone differently, but I still think we would have at least gotten a point from that game with Sleeper Stead in the picture.
00:05:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think yeah and as we said before those three games like you said two points you'd be happy with I said four points I'd be happy with we got seven four plus two plus probably one that Luke had in in in mind ah so when you join three of us there you go we got it right seven points but I gotta to say that I think Arsenal game was really relevant for Vanelsen because for both of the goals if it wasn't for him ah I don't know how that would go because he was he was the one to make Saliba get the red card he was the one to make the run and he was the one to make Raya give us a penalty so
00:06:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
You know, he had a great game. I can't remember. He didn't score right against Arsenal.
00:06:29
Dom Thorn
No, you didn't, no.
00:06:30
Global Sports Podcast Network
He didn't score against Arsenal, but he was there. But because of him and his actions, we did score two goals. And obviously just to lead into the the next game against Villa when he scored in the 96th minute, the header.
00:06:46
Global Sports Podcast Network
I didn't see that coming, but I think we didn't deserve to to lose the game at all.
00:06:52
Dom Thorn
No, it's a tricky one because I do think that they were the better team. And I do think that if we did lose that game, I wouldn't have been overly disgruntled by it. I mean, the AI obviously do us in again. and But I just think the way we kept going and the way we kept pressing and the way, especially in the last 10 minutes or so, where those balls were flying into the box and then Van Vassen getting that flick on header, it just, A, it stirs the belief up, doesn't it? And B, it just goes to show again what we've been speaking about constantly, how Iriola refuses to be beaten and he will constantly keep banging the same drum and getting us to attack and getting us to play and not let our heads her drop.
00:07:35
Dom Thorn
I would say that it really did show that Ivano is going to be the player to take us forth though. I think maybe if he started, we would have seemed a little bit more comfortable. But again, with him coming off the bench, he has more stamina, he goes on and scores the goal. so But yeah, I would have bitten your hand off for a point at Villa Park before the game. And we've got one, so.
00:07:57
Global Sports Podcast Network
Definitely. I mean, Unyal was a starter and he had a good game. I'm not gonna lie. It was it was a good game from Unyal. Unlucky, he didn't score, but he had a he had a solid game. And I think this was the first the first start of of the season for Unyal. Correct me if I'm wrong.
00:08:12
Dom Thorn
Yeah, it was. Yeah.
00:08:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, and the to be honest, when when Villa subbed their striker for John Duran, and I just thought, I just had the same thoughts like when we played against Chelsea when I saw Nkunku coming on.
00:08:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
I said, no, just not him.
00:08:28
Dom Thorn
so
00:08:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
and then Duran and oh my god he just started shooting from the left from the right from everywhere I was thinking like if he keeps shooting like this one is gonna go in and then obviously we turned around the game a bit and we started with these set pieces and crosses and we had one two three and and I knew that something has to happen because if you keep doing one thing eventually has to happen right
00:08:35
Dom Thorn
Good play.
00:08:51
Dom Thorn
Yeah.
00:08:52
Global Sports Podcast Network
So, and then, and then, you know, 96 minutes. Wow. Like Yvanil Sundar had a, you'd expect from a crazy, I mean, Martinez to save that, but somehow, yeah, Yvanil Sundar managed to find the net. And then again, brought us all the euphoria and then then happiness and brought us a point as well. And then gave us, you know, even bigger boost to to to get into the game against City.
00:09:18
Global Sports Podcast Network
a But before we we we start talking about what happened with the city again for the weekend, we're just going to go for a quick heartbreak and we'll be back soon.

Fans' Reactions to the City Victory

00:10:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
Right, here we are to just sort of reminisce a bit more about the game against City because it's the first ever win from Bournemouth and everything was just feeling great from the beginning of the day.
00:10:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
from From the moment I woke up in the morning, I had a great feeling. I woke up on the right foot, not on the left foot.
00:11:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
I decided I was going to go into the north stand front row. i decided I manifested that we were going to score in the second half and And all that came true apart from one fact that the the the players didn't come to me.
00:11:15
Dom Thorn
Can't see me instead.
00:11:16
Global Sports Podcast Network
They came to you instead Dom, but they came to one of us. So it's okay. I forgive them. Right. Next time. So if any of our players or boom players are listening to this, please yeah come to me next time. Don't go to Dom because he got his his his pleasure. Right. But again, what a win. 2-1 could have been 4-1, 5-1 easily. Addison had some amazing saves. We were just better. We were just way, way better. and Again, gotta mention Kirkis, what a game, the best game I've seen so far from him.
00:11:47
Global Sports Podcast Network
And I remember when he signed for Bournemouth, obviously, and and i've been I've been saying this since since we started our episodes, that he's he's his offensive rate is is much better than defensive, right?
00:11:48
Dom Thorn
Absolutely.
00:12:02
Global Sports Podcast Network
And his crossing wasn't great either. and he definitely can see that definitely he definitely improved because two crosses two goals just amazing and then tackles that he made on the day that blocked shot against Bernardo Silva and then another one in the first half then one more in the second half it was just brilliant he was outstanding on the game he was outstanding it was just his day
00:12:30
Dom Thorn
Yeah, he he really did show, didn't he, what all the hype was about in that game. He just really took the ball by the horns. his offensive work rate like you alluded to, as I said, was fantastic.
00:12:42
Dom Thorn
The runs that he was making, the cross to Van Dusen, I didn't really appreciate it much at the time. Well, obviously I did, but from the angle where you're sat, obviously being in the north side and you would know from sitting there, you don't really see the the actual whipping it, do you?
00:12:56
Dom Thorn
You just see it up in front.
00:12:57
Global Sports Podcast Network
No.
00:12:58
Dom Thorn
So then when I watched it back on the highlights, because obviously I had to watch matches of the day, the way it just lands perfectly at Van Dusen, out of Anderson's feet. It was just incredible. It was such a good cross. He just really is developing rapidly, isn't he? I think we had a conversation before where we said Kerkes and probably Dango this season have been the two most improved players, but Kerkes has hit another level on Saturday.
00:13:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think since Dango, you know when a couple of games when Dango was put to play as a left back and he yeah he He was great. He was great playing as a left back and then we were talking about that and then maybe that sort of, you know, gave even more confidence to Kirkis to start working harder because he's going to lose his position, right?
00:13:43
Dom Thorn
Yeah.
00:13:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
then obviously the last couple of games we ended up where Kirkis was playing left back and Dan was playing on the left side as a midfielder slash winger and that obviously that worked well, right?
00:13:57
Dom Thorn
Yeah.
00:13:57
Global Sports Podcast Network
that That was great. And then today, was sorry today, on Saturday, right, Semenya on the left side, he just exploded. There were a few situations when he was carrying the ball when I thought it was a bit slow, but he just I think he just waited for anyone to attack him so he could maybe, you know, just sort of a quick turn or try to run away or dribble one-on-one, but honestly he he he completely exploded against City and I'd love to see him like that every game from now on.
00:14:29
Dom Thorn
Yeah, it did seem like he was inviting people on, didn't it? The way he just managed to skip past him so easily, so effortlessly. We had a conversation with Jack yesterday, where he was saying that he was probably one of the best ball carrying players he's seen City play.
00:14:42
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:14:43
Dom Thorn
And when you watch him consistently, he those are the sort of performances he has been putting in fairly regularly. Again, he did just hit an upper echelon on Saturday, but Yeah, it's just I feel like I'd be sat here for hours talking about that game and reminiscing about it, but just brilliant, absolutely brilliant.
00:15:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
um I don't want to sound rude or anything, but it felt like he was bullying Walker.
00:15:07
Dom Thorn
It did, it did. I'd agree with you.
00:15:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
it's Honestly, as as Jack mentioned, like Walker has been a bit inconsistent and then his his his form dropped lately. And yeah, he's one of the right best right backs in the world, but Semeni was just outstanding. One thing that I didn't like in the second half when Evangelson tried to finish,
00:15:30
Global Sports Podcast Network
No, actually, Semenya was carrying the ball and received that ball and just running to the space. And then Evallinson literally stole the ball off him and shot and then Edison saved it. I don't know if you remember that.
00:15:41
Dom Thorn
Yeah, right, let's begin in a second half, wasn't it?
00:15:43
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, beginning of the second half. And yeah, I mean, I'm glad that we scored another one again, because we could have been sorry for that chance, for that missed chance. And then another one, when we hit the post, we bound the back to Adam Smith, who just blasted it over the crossbar. I was like, no way. No way. But from the beginning of the game, you could see that that the first chance we had with climate where Edison had a double save.
00:16:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
I can't remember who was the who was who had the first shot to go. Was Semenya's shot to go?
00:16:14
Dom Thorn
It's a manual, yeah.
00:16:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
Semeño, and then yeah, bounce back to Cliverton and then double save.
00:16:15
Dom Thorn
It's right at the keeper.

Future Prospects: Europe and Expansion

00:16:18
Global Sports Podcast Network
Addison outstanding keeper. But yeah, it it was just meant to be. It was just all day. I was hoping for 1-1 score in the predictions. And I said, I'd love Borma to win.
00:16:30
Global Sports Podcast Network
And then we actually won. And honestly, I just can't wait for the next game to come with with this sort of confidence and with this sort of rhythm and form. it its just It's just enjoyable watching vomit, right?
00:16:45
Dom Thorn
Yeah, absolutely. And fingers crossed it will carry on in the next few games.
00:16:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
it's Honestly, it's amazing just looking watching them like playing that high press even against the big teams. like they They're going like they have nothing to lose, nothing to lose. And obviously, that kind of play style is asking for a lot of stamina. It's not easy trying to play high press constantly.
00:17:11
Dom Thorn
No.
00:17:12
Global Sports Podcast Network
we, we, we've seen, we've seen some of the players really, really improving a lot.
00:17:18
Global Sports Podcast Network
And, I can say this is the second season that I've been following Bournemouth and watching every single home game. Um, Um, and, and you could just see the improvement straight away.
00:17:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
And, I don't want this to stop. Right. I did say I'd love Bournemouth to finish, in top eight. My prediction position was eight, but.
00:17:38
Global Sports Podcast Network
why not even more? Why not sixth or fifth or you know try to secure the Europe? The problem would be that that definitely they will have to extend the stadium if if we're going to go and play Europe.
00:17:50
Dom Thorn
Yeah, we need at least a few more seats, wouldn't we?
00:17:50
Global Sports Podcast Network
wait we need and the question is, are they going to are they going to put some some seats in the corners or whether they're going to extend the north and the south stand? you know it's it's This is something that they need to think about and obviously with with the planning and everything that they got approved from the council, it's just a matter of time when they're going to start building.
00:18:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
And yeah, on that note, ah happy Tuesday. I think we we it's time to finish this episode and up the cherries.
00:18:26
Dom Thorn
I'm serious.
