Welcome! Today is the sixth day of the Feast of Tabernacles in 2025, also known as the Feast of Tents or Sukkot.

I apologize for getting this daily reading published midday on the 13th. I had a great deal of technical difficulty on the 12th. Although I tried to get the video uploaded my efforts were unsuccessful and I finally had to call it a night. Thank you for your grace. :)

Before we get started with our daily reading I want us to know about a Jewish holiday coming up in 2 days- It's the Joy of the Torah day! This is traditionally the day that Jewish people give thanks for God's Word as well as begin to read the entire Bible for the year! It is a common, communal goal to read the entire Bible every year, following the same schedule together! While I will not be reading the same schedule of the Bible I have a chronological study Bible from the New Living Translation that I intend to read this year, starting on Tuesday, The Joy of the Torah day! Please join with me and prepare to give thanks to God for giving us His Word on October 14, 2025.

If you would like to download my FREE calendar for keeping track of your commitment to read the Bible every day, you can find that on my site, here: https://www.inthefamilywaycoaching.com/pages/read-the-bible-in-1-year

Monthly memberships to support this event can be purchased on my site, here: https://www.inthefamilywaycoaching.com/offering_packages

Today's reading will cover the Book of Acts Chapters 3 and 4.

Today we will read about some difficulty Peter and John had with the local leaders because they healed a man who was unable to walk since birth and were telling everyone that the healing had been accomplished due to their faith in Jesus and the man's faith in Jesus. In response to being told not to continue witnessing about Jesus, Peter and John asked the religious leaders what they thought God would say in this situation- should Peter and John obey God or the leaders? In the same way we need to remember to follow God's rules rather than man made rules that teach us not to obey God.

We will also read about the community of believers looking out for one another and caring for one another the way that Jesus had taught them.

In our discussion for daily application we will talk about remembering how Jesus taught us that we have been freely provided for by God and so we need to also freely share with and be willing to share with others the things we have been given by God so that no one is in need!

If you enjoyed today's reading and feel like God has lit YOUR light please click the LIGHT button (it looks like a thumbs up or a heart) and consider subscribing to or following my channel, if you have not done so already.

If you know someone who might be interested in reading the Bible with me this year please SHARE today's reading with them! It's never too late to join in! Let's help this event grow and together we can spread the word about reading God's Word!

Introduction to Daily Bible Reading

00:00:01
Speaker
Welcome back everybody. Today is October 12th. Today is also the sixth day of the Feast of Tabernacles. My name is Robin. I am within the Family Way Coaching and we are here together for our daily reading through the Day by Day Kids Bible written by Karen Henley.
00:00:19
Speaker
I am so glad that we are together today for another reading. Thank you for joining me whether you are following along on that podcast or whether you are watching the video somewhere. We are in the month of October and we have until the end of December and then we will be finished with this whole Bible this year.
00:00:39
Speaker
If you, however, have not been following along for the entire year, I want to make sure that you know that this event is available wherever you are watching or listening and that it will be there in its entirety starting again on January first All of the days are up already.
00:00:57
Speaker
They won't be taken down or anything. So if you feel like you would like to start the process over, go ahead and feel free to check that out. I will also be uploading a new monthly calendar each month.
00:01:09
Speaker
so that if anybody is interested in keeping their days down with their commitment calendar, you will be able to do so.

The Feast of Tabernacles and Joy of the Torah

00:01:17
Speaker
And the reason I'm mentioning this is because we have, as we are completing the Feast of Tabernacles, we have mentioned that the eighth day is to be a a Sabbath day, ah Shabbat.
00:01:30
Speaker
It is also the Jewish day for the joy of the Torah. We haven't talked about that. This is the day where it is customary for Jewish people to begin rereading the Bible again.
00:01:46
Speaker
They read through the Bible every year. There is and a daily Bible reading plan in my Bible reading app. I use the Tree of Life Bible, and that's because it's a Messianic Jewish version.

Insights from the Tree of Life Bible

00:02:02
Speaker
It's pretty much basic English, but what it does is that instead of saying things like, there was a holiday, it will tell you which holiday, and it will use a lot of the Hebrew words, like for priest, and for the saints, and most importantly, they actually use the Hebrew name for Jesus, which is Yeshua.
00:02:23
Speaker
So there they it also has, where I get a lot of my ah biblical references to the scripture that has been fulfilled by Jesus and Judas and as Peter speaks, is that every time I read, it gives, like it's study Bible.
00:02:43
Speaker
So it it references where ah they are they are speaking from. and i love it. it's It's really great version of the Bible. So I'm actually going to be looking myself to begin reading in a different chronological big Bible so that I can read the entire Bible in one year as well.

Bible Reading Approaches in Messianic Judaism

00:03:06
Speaker
So in the in my Messianic Jewish congregation we have a as I mentioned, a Bible reading schedule And every day it tells us um on my app here ah what we're reading today.
00:03:24
Speaker
So it will say out of the Torah portion we would be reading for the week because it starts on Wednesday. ah Tuesday, rather. Is it Tuesday?
00:03:36
Speaker
Oops. at Tuesday. we would be starting ah to read Genesis 1-1 again. And then in the prophets section, they don't read it chronologically.
00:03:49
Speaker
They read one section out of the Torah, one section out of the prophets, and then they also read one section out of the New Covenant. And I'm not going to be following that particular order because I don't think it goes in, that's not done in order.
00:04:08
Speaker
um I would prefer to read it chronologically.

The Importance of a Daily Commitment Calendar

00:04:11
Speaker
I really like It's like rereading the same book and I want to keep my understanding and build upon that. So I'm actually going to be getting a Messianic Jewish chronological Bible.
00:04:25
Speaker
that I am going to begin reading for myself this Wednesday. Did I say Wednesday? Oh, I'm so bad on my days. Tuesday, Tuesday.
00:04:37
Speaker
good thing I have it written down on my daily commitment calendar here because otherwise i would not be able to keep track of my numbers. Numbers are not my strong point.
00:04:50
Speaker
I don't tend to be able to remember addresses even of the but of the Bible verses. I have to write them down or I just look them up. But I'll remember the words and the verses and what happened with them.
00:05:01
Speaker
But I'm not good at remembering the numbers. um It's always been a joke actually that I am not even always sure like I can't remember what year we got married I always forget what year I got married so I know our date was September 29th, but I really can't remember what year it was
00:05:22
Speaker
Isn't that terrible? I'm not good at remembering numbers. So I'm sorry when I keep giving all these the wrong numbers. I keep saying it's day five, it's day six. Not good.
00:05:34
Speaker
But we can't all be good in everything, right?
00:05:38
Speaker
So I just wanted to

Benefits of the Chronological Life Application Study Bible

00:05:39
Speaker
encourage you that even if you weren't starting on Tuesday to begin reading the Bible again, you wanted to start, I just wanted to encourage you to go through and actually hear the Bible again next year.
00:05:55
Speaker
This is something that is done every single year by the Jewish community. So and it's actually a like a corporate ah reading schedule.
00:06:06
Speaker
So we're actually reading ah across the board. Everybody is reading the same portion. Jewish people who do not yet believe in the Messiah, they are not simply including the the New Covenant in their reading, but they are reading the the portion of the Torah and of the Prophets.
00:06:28
Speaker
Let's see, I was going to say something else on that as well, and I'm not sure i remember.
00:06:35
Speaker
The Bible that I'm actually looking at getting is, I found on the website Jews for Jesus. And it is the Chronological Life Application Study Bible.
00:06:49
Speaker
So it is the study
00:06:54
Speaker
Bible.
00:06:57
Speaker
It is the New Living Translation. So you may already be familiar with that translation. it's ah It's a common translation, but it's just, it gives things, it gives it a lot of perspective from the Messianic Jewish perspective, which I think is very valid since we cannot have um the New Covenant without the Old Covenant.
00:07:23
Speaker
since Jesus came to fulfill the old covenant, not to abolish it. So I feel like without ah converting specifically to Judaism, it still allows a very complete um experience because I am a Gentile believer in the Messiah.
00:07:41
Speaker
And I feel like that's a very accurate description versus claiming, say, Christian christian rather than saying I'm a Christian or rather than, ah you know, saying I'm a non-denominational Christian or anything like that.
00:07:55
Speaker
So I just, I feel like that's a great place to go for for reading the Bible with that perspective. And so I just wanted to encourage you that if you were interested that you can actually even find it on Amazon.
00:08:08
Speaker
um and It's just called the Chronological Life Application Study Bible. And I don't have any, I don't do any links or anything like that. So um I don't have any like affiliate links or anything like that.
00:08:21
Speaker
I just like to share information. So if you decide to get one or if you don't decide to get one, ah it doesn't benefit me or or hurt me in any in any way. I just want to... Make sure that I'm telling you guys about that.

Celebrating the Joy of the Torah

00:08:33
Speaker
And since we have the joy of the Torah coming up in two days. Today is Sunday, so that's in two days here in 2025. And if you are curious about how that came about, it actually came about um because...
00:08:57
Speaker
Let's see, in Leviticus 23 is where it outlines the sacred appointed times that the Lord mandated for our Moedim, our appointed at times, which we know that.
00:09:13
Speaker
And throughout the centuries, there became a second day that was added on to the holidays in order to allow Jews who were not able to celebrate because they were and living in other parts of the world to give them time to celebrate.
00:09:30
Speaker
And the eighth day um became customary on the for the a Feast of Tabernacles to be the joy of the Torah.
00:09:41
Speaker
And so that actually started by the 14th century. It became customary to begin reading Genesis on this day and the joy of the Torah became a full holiday listed on the list of Jewish holidays.
00:09:56
Speaker
So I just thought I would share that. It says in my informational here that even though it's not a biblical feast, it is still a valuable time of community and thanksgiving to God for planting eternal life in our midst.
00:10:11
Speaker
And so this joy of the Torah, we want to welcome you to join the Jewish people around the world to take a moment, and even if you are not starting over reading Genesis, that you can take a moment that day to thank God for his word.
00:10:26
Speaker
Isn't that nice? we We have a, not a biblical, but an official holiday to rejoice over the fact that God gave us His Word, what we're reading.
00:10:39
Speaker
And I love spreading the word about reading God's Word. So I wanted to spread the word about the joy of the Torah holiday. So thank you for listening to that as our little preamble there before we begin our reading today.
00:10:53
Speaker
I always have something, don't I, lately? Alrighty, well today let's go ahead and begin with our reading finally, without any further ado.

Acts 3 and 4: Faith and Boldness of Peter and John

00:11:05
Speaker
Today's reading is going to cover Acts chapter 3 and 4. And today we are going to be reading about some of the difficulty that the knew as that the disciples were going to start experiencing as a result of their giving testimony about Jesus and what they saw and knew about him being alive.
00:11:31
Speaker
We're also going to read about and learn about healing. And where does it come from? Is it us who does healing? Was it the apostles who were healing people of their own accord?
00:11:45
Speaker
Of their own power, I mean to say. Not accord, but of their own power?
00:11:50
Speaker
Let's find out.
00:11:53
Speaker
So chapter three, Peter and John went to the worship house one afternoon. And it was about three o'clock. And it was time for people to come and pray. Now some people came in carrying a man and they were taking him to the gate called Beautiful Gate.
00:12:12
Speaker
And it led to the worship house. This man couldn't walk so he sat at the gate every day. People going in the gate could see him and he would beg for money there.
00:12:26
Speaker
In my Messianic Jewish Bible it says that he would beg for alms for the poor. So we we may have heard the saying, alms, alms for the poor.
00:12:37
Speaker
This is actually where it comes from. is he was it It comes from Hebrew. He would be asking for alms for the poor.
00:12:47
Speaker
Now some people came in. Whoops, sorry, already read that. And the man, as he was sitting there, he saw Peter and John, and they were about to go in the gate.
00:12:59
Speaker
So he asked them for money. Now Peter and John looked right at the man. Look at us, they said to the man.
00:13:10
Speaker
So the man looked at them. He thought that they were going to give him some money. I don't have any silver or gold, said Peter, but I do have something else and that is what I will give you.
00:13:25
Speaker
In Jesus's name, get up and walk. And then Peter reached out and took the man's right hand and Peter helped the man get up.
00:13:37
Speaker
And right away the man's feet got strong and he jumped up and he started walking. The young man went with Peter and John, and they all went into a closed-in yard outside the worship house.
00:13:56
Speaker
Now the man was not only walking, he was jumping too, and he was praising God. And all the people saw him. They saw who he was.
00:14:08
Speaker
He was the man who used to beg at the gate. People were very surprised and they wondered, how could he walk? The man held on to Peter and John and people came running up to them.
00:14:22
Speaker
Peter said, why are you surprised? You are looking at us as if our power made him well, but it is God who has done this. He showed the power and greatness of Jesus.
00:14:37
Speaker
God has glorified his servant, it says in our Big Bible, which is actually a quotation from Isaiah chapter 52. And there's a whole section about Jesus being God's servant from verses 13 to chapter 53, verse 12.
00:14:58
Speaker
Peter went on, You let Jesus be killed, said Peter. Pilate wanted to let him go. But you wouldn't stand up for Jesus, and instead you asked Pilate to let a killer go free, and you killed the one who gave you life.
00:15:16
Speaker
But God made Jesus alive again, and we saw it happen. And now you see a man you know, said Peter, and he is well because we believe in Jesus.
00:15:31
Speaker
Jesus's name and this man's faith made him well. You can see it for yourselves. You didn't know what you were doing when you killed Jesus and your leaders didn't know what they were doing, said Peter.
00:15:46
Speaker
So be sorry, come back to God and then your sins can be cleaned out of your hearts. God can make you feel like new Jesus has to stay in heaven until the right time, said Peter.
00:16:03
Speaker
And when it's time, God will make everything new again. He promised it long ago. Moses said, God will send someone who tells his plans.
00:16:16
Speaker
He will be someone from your own people. Listen to everything he says. If you don't, you will be left out of God's kingdom. All God's prophets told about what was coming, said Peter.
00:16:32
Speaker
And now you have it. You have what God promised long ago to Abraham. God promised that he would bring good to everyone. And he said he would do it through Abraham's family.
00:16:47
Speaker
And now God has is brought good to you. He has sent Jesus to help you turn away from sin.
00:16:58
Speaker
Hallelujah! That's not in the Bible, but that's my own exclamation. Praise God!
00:17:06
Speaker
Now the priests and other leaders at the worship house walked up. The captain of the guards was with them, and they heard Peter and John, and they were very upset. And that's because Peter and John were saying that Jesus was alive again.
00:17:20
Speaker
So the leaders put John and Peter into jail. But lots of people had heard Peter and John. So lots of people believed in Jesus now. And there were now more than 5,000 people who believed.
00:17:36
Speaker
The next day, the leaders met together and they brought Peter and John in. They began to ask them questions. What power did you call on?
00:17:47
Speaker
Whose name did you use to make the man well? Now Peter was full of the Holy Spirit. And he said, we did something kind for a man who couldn't walk.
00:18:01
Speaker
And now we are here being asked questions. So I will tell you the answer. The man was made well by the name of Jesus. You killed Jesus, said Peter.
00:18:16
Speaker
But God brought him back to life again. He is like a stone that the builders didn't want. Now that stone holds up the building and no one else can save you.
00:18:30
Speaker
There is no other name under heaven that can save. The worship house leaders could tell several things about Peter and John.
00:18:43
Speaker
They could tell that these men had not gone to school very much. They were plain men. but they were being very brave. And the leaders were surprised about that.
00:18:57
Speaker
They could tell that Peter and John had been with Jesus. And the leaders could clearly see the man had been made well. He was standing there with Peter and John.
00:19:09
Speaker
And so was there wasn't anything that they could say. the leaders told Peter and John to leave for a few minutes. And then they had a talk together. What should we do about these men?
00:19:22
Speaker
They asked. Everyone in the city knows about this wonder. We can't say it didn't happen. But we must stop these men from saying that Jesus is alive.
00:19:34
Speaker
So they told Peter and John to come back in. And they told them not to teach about Jesus. But Peter and John had an answer for the leaders.
00:19:45
Speaker
What do you think God would say? They asked. Is it right to obey you or God? We can't stop talking about what we saw and heard.
00:19:59
Speaker
Now the leaders tried to scare Peter and John. You will be sorry if you keep this up, they told them. Then they let Peter and John go.
00:20:10
Speaker
They couldn't think of what to do because all the people were praising God for what he had done. and the man was And the man who was made well was not young. He was more than 40 years old.
00:20:24
Speaker
Wow, I'm more than 40 years old. Peter and John went back to their friends. They had told them what the leaders at the worship house had said. And then everyone prayed, Great God!
00:20:40
Speaker
You made heaven, the earth, and the sea. You made everything in them. Now look at what our leaders are saying. They continued praying.
00:20:53
Speaker
Make us brave. Then we can say what you want us to say. Reach out to make people well. Do your wonders by the power of Jesus' name.
00:21:07
Speaker
And when they had finished praying, the room shook and God's Holy Spirit filled all of them. And so they became brave and they talked about God. And everyone who believed in Jesus felt the same way.
00:21:28
Speaker
Nobody said that what he owned was just his. And instead, Jesus' followers shared what they had with one another. The 12 apostles kept telling people that Jesus was alive and they spoke with great power.
00:21:47
Speaker
God's kind love was in them.
00:21:52
Speaker
No believer was so poor that he didn't have the things that he needed. And that's because some people sold their land or their buildings and then they gathered the money that they had made and they gave it to the men who had been with Jesus, his apostles.
00:22:09
Speaker
And the apostles gave the money to the people who needed it.
00:22:16
Speaker
And that is the end of our reading today.
00:22:21
Speaker
Isn't that wonderful? um my gosh, I love today's reading!

Reflection on Faith and Early Christian Community

00:22:26
Speaker
ah today's reading is awesome, isn't it? Today we got to see Peter and John heal a man who had been unable to walk since he was born.
00:22:39
Speaker
And now he was over 40 years old. So he had never walked. He had always been carried to the gate and sat down and told to beg. And so that's what he had done.
00:22:50
Speaker
And then we saw that his faith and their faith in Jesus is what healed him. It was not by their own power. I love how they made that distinction.
00:23:03
Speaker
You're looking at us as if we were the one who did this. We didn't do it. Jesus' name and the faith that this man had, that is what made him well.
00:23:15
Speaker
And we have that power too to call upon Jesus' name. And if we have the faith and we do not doubt and the person who we are trying to heal is is also without doubt.
00:23:29
Speaker
They too will be healed. Jesus has told us that we will be able to do this thing. And that is amazing. So I wanted to be sure and point that out today.
00:23:42
Speaker
Next thing is that I love how they told Peter and John told the leaders,
00:23:53
Speaker
what do you think God would say? Is it right to obey you or God?
00:23:59
Speaker
We will have friends, and even people who are not our friends, that we will know. And we need to make choices in this world. We need to choose whether we are going to do what we want or what God wants, what other people want us to do or what God wants us to do.
00:24:18
Speaker
We have to make the choice to make sure, just like with Daniel, when he was put into the lion's den for obeying God and not worshiping anybody but God, we need to be sure, and just like Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, when they refused to follow the law that said that they could not worship God, they could only worship the keep the the king, the ruler.
00:24:45
Speaker
and they did not abide by that rule. They listened to God's rules. They put His rules over man-made rules. We can have this problem even in churches where people are making man-made rules.
00:25:00
Speaker
We have to be sure that what we are following is God's rules, God's ways, not people made rules, people's ways. That's why the the leaders were chastised by Jesus.
00:25:15
Speaker
He said that they had made so many rules that they were, it was like they had taken the key away from the people so that they couldn't enter God's kingdom.
00:25:26
Speaker
And we want to be sure that we're not placing rules on other people. and making things unreasonable. We are to follow Jesus' and God's rules. Jesus says that our main rule is to love God, to love Him, to obey them, and to love others as well as we love ourselves.
00:25:49
Speaker
So everything that we are to do has to do with love and obeying God and Jesus. So they were taking the stand. They were doing what was right. And so that is part of our big daily application today is to be sure that we are not the following man instead of following God.
00:26:09
Speaker
Certainly we have rules that we are expected to abide by and 99% of these rules do not conflict with God's rules. So it is okay, as Jesus said, to give to Caesar what is Caesar's and give to God what is God's.
00:26:23
Speaker
We will need to obey human rules as so long as they don't interfere with God's rules. and And in this case, the leaders were trying to make a rule that wanted them to do something against God.
00:26:36
Speaker
So they did not want to do that and they told the leaders, what do you think God would say? Is it right for us to obey you or right for us to obey God? And any leader wouldn't be able to say, don't follow God.
00:26:53
Speaker
Nowadays we don't have religious leaders in our government, but this this was taking place there at the temple. But it would be the same as if we were having a a spiritual leader who was wanting us to follow their man-made rules rather than God's rules.
00:27:12
Speaker
So we have to be sure that that's not the case.
00:27:16
Speaker
Ah, now what I really love today is to remember that Jesus taught us that everything we have has been given to us by God. And freely have we been given.
00:27:30
Speaker
and freely are we to give. That is what Peter and John were doing. They gave the gift of healing. They healed this man.
00:27:41
Speaker
Freely had they been given, and freely were they to give. The same is true for us. And this is what we see the the believers acting in community with one another.
00:27:54
Speaker
They sold things, they shared what they had in common with one another. Jesus also told us that if we want to be great, then we need to serve one another.
00:28:05
Speaker
We need to care for one another. And this is what the people were doing. They were serving and looking out for and caring for one another. We need to make sure that we are doing that today as well.
00:28:20
Speaker
God told us that that is the type of fast that he likes. He says, it isn't is is am I just looking for you to to put ashes on your face or or to to not eat? He says, the kind of fast that I approve is to, i can't remember the exact words, to feed and take care of and look after the widows and the orphans.
00:28:46
Speaker
that That was what he was looking for people to do. God wants us to have a heart of love. God is love. God is full of love and loving kindness.
00:28:59
Speaker
And he wants us, his children, to behave like that too. We don't think of ourselves as children very often. But the the Jewish people were always referred to as the children of Israel, Benai Israel.
00:29:13
Speaker
the children of Israel. And we are God's children. We are not so grown that we know everything, what to do, all the time, right and perfect. We are still learning.
00:29:25
Speaker
And none of us is perfect. All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. So we need to work toward making sure that we are obeying. It's not always going to come naturally.
00:29:37
Speaker
We would like for it to, but it won't always just come naturally for us. We have to think about it. We have to make deliberate effort to make sure that we are freely giving because we have been freely given.
00:29:53
Speaker
We talked yesterday about the fact that during this Feast of Tabernacles, God has told us that he will bless our produce, meaning that our harvest will be bountiful, and that also he will bless the work of our hands.
