South by Southwest Experience

Last week, I was at South by Southwest in Austin, a sensory overload, fun, nonstop week of music, films, conference sessions, parties, and meeting people.

What I loved most about the experience was that in March 2022, I made a promise to myself that I would come to South by Southwest 2023 and I set the date and I made it happen.

It was such an honor and privilege to make something so big happen, not only because of the cost and time off, but also when we think about what we've all experienced with COVID, the ability to set something a year ahead of time and not have anything stopped me from doing it felt exhilarating. I know I for sure showed up with that energy and gratitude and excitement throughout the week.
Reflections on COVID Era

There was one night we were at the New Order concert and it occurred to me it was March 13th and three years prior we had our big shutdown in San Francisco because of COVID. And here I was three years later in this huge crowd of people listening to New Order song Bizarre Love Triangle.

I took the moment to take in the experience and also feel that feeling of the privilege and honor to be there.
Setting Personal Goals

My message to all of you is to set the date to do something for you. I know that we all can't do something so big and expensive like a trip or South by Southwest, and we might even not even want to do something like that. But what small thing can we do? Can you do for yourself?
