Impact of Language on Menopause Experience
00:03:14
Speaker
So also in honor of Menopause Awareness Month, which is coming up in October, over the next few weeks, I will be sharing different ideas and resources about different topics related to the menopause journey from an empowered lens. I'll share on this podcast and also on social media. The thoughts that we have, the language that we use to describe ourselves,
00:03:45
Speaker
and our experiences impact our feelings, which impacts our actions and how we behave, which impacts our results. And this definitely applies to the menopause journey. So how we think about it and the language we use to describe it will impact our experience of the journey.
00:04:09
Speaker
So today I wanna share with you just a couple ideas from Christian Northrup. She's an OBGYN physician. Hope I said her name correctly. I'll definitely link her information below. She is the author of many books and the one book that I'm currently reading is called The Wisdom of Menopause. So I just started this book and I will keep you posted with what I learned.
00:04:38
Speaker
But what has stood out to me so far is the language that she uses to describe menopause and the menopause journey. She uses the words awakening, transformation, reinvention, rebirth. And according to Dr.
The Transformative Power of Menopause
00:04:58
Speaker
The conversation on menopause is usually focused on all the hormonal changes, but she also reminds us that this is a time when both our brain and our body are being rewired. She talks about how if we participate in this developmental stage consciously,
00:05:21
Speaker
It holds enormous promise for transforming and healing our bodies, minds, spirits at the deepest levels. In the first couple of chapters, she talks about how because of cultural programming and also our hormones, that our focus in our reproductive years tends to be more on others and the feelings of others.
00:05:49
Speaker
and that with menopause and the menopause journey and the rewiring of our body and our brain and the hormonal changes.
00:06:00
Speaker
that our focus begins to shift, and that desires and creative drives become rekindled, and oftentimes with such a force that they become rekindled, that they need an outlet. She actually says that the outlet for it is demanding. She talks about how this is a time of becoming the queen of yourself,
00:06:27
Speaker
and that most people find themselves at a crossroads from the old way of being to the new ways that they have just only begun to dream about. She also uses words in the language that youthful fire and spirit are often rekindled. So as I'm writing this down, as I'm reading this back to you all, it brings up so many questions for me.
00:06:55
Speaker
Just for example, this idea of this rekindling of the youthful fire and this creative creativity and the rekindling of desires. Does this pertain to the menopause journey, which can be seven to 14 years leading up to the last period?
00:07:15
Speaker
And also that year of having no periods, that's the menopause journey before you're officially considered in menopause. You need 12 months without a period. So is this time of rekindling of this desire, this creativity, is this happening during the menopause journey, which is perimenopause?
00:07:33
Speaker
And, or is this more for post-menopause, like after someone has reached menopause? Also, what does this rekindling of youthfulness, creativity, and desire look like? And how can we participate in it consciously, as she mentioned, so that we can have the promise for transforming and healing our bodies, minds, and spirits at the deepest levels?
Navigating Relationships During Menopause
00:08:00
Speaker
She also talks about how this transformation can be liberating and also can be unsettling for people and relationships can hit a crisis point if this isn't navigated in a conscious way. I will for sure report back and let you know what I continue learning from Dr. Northrup. So make sure to, can you continue to tune in onto this podcast and also follow me on Instagram and I'll link that below.
00:08:29
Speaker
So this is the first time that I have heard the menopause journey being described in this way. And from my perspective, I find this exciting. And this confirms my interest and passion in this space and further validates my getting certified as a life
Certifications and Coaching Focus
00:08:48
Speaker
coach really recently. And now I just recently have been accepted into a love and intimacy and sex coaching certification program with Layla Martin.
00:08:58
Speaker
And my focus will definitely be on this time of transition. So when I hear Dr. Northrup's words, I think of how powerful it is to learn mindset, emotion, and intimacy tools to support people on this journey of reinvention and transformation in a way that feels liberating for everyone. So I will end there, but I would love to continue this conversation with all of you on this podcast and also send me a message
00:09:28
Speaker
on Instagram, wherever, or if you have my email, send me a message with your thoughts. I can imagine that this is something that might feel energizing to some and daunting to others, or maybe just confusing what she's talking about.
00:09:43
Speaker
Also, I'm just imagining it might create a new pressure for people, this idea of rekindling desires and creativity. Like, what does that mean and what to do when you have this urge and this rekindling? And also, what happens if you don't? And I'm sure this looks different for everyone. So lots of ideas to explore and so much to learn. And I am on this journey with you.
00:10:09
Speaker
I look forward to exploring it more and sharing with you what I learned. So I will tune in either next week or two weeks. I'm kind of, my pattern is now getting maybe two weeks. We'll see. Um, I'm just kind of going with the flow with the rhythm, but I thank you so much for tuning in. I appreciate you and I will talk to you soon. Have an amazing week.
