Once again, a little technical hiccup (my wifi dropping) resulted in us having to put this episode out in 2 parts. Which just means more episodes!

This episode we actually make it into the year 2024 as we talk about some of our favorite nerd moments, as well as the ones our guests shared. Enjoy!

Opinions shared by the hosts and/or guests of Real Hot Nerd Shit are their own and do not represent any workplace or organization with whom they may or may not be affiliated.

Introduction and Overcoming Difficulties

00:00:01
Ryan
So once again, we experienced technical difficulties, um but we're we're back.
00:00:08
Ryan
um I believe we're just in what?
00:00:09
Shauna (she/her)
In bug form.
00:00:13
Ryan
In POG form?
00:00:13
Shauna (she/her)
And yeah by the one Simpson's quote that lived in my head rent free is where Milhouse goes, it's Alf.
00:00:13
Ryan
Is that what you said? That's very funny.
00:00:23
Shauna (she/her)
He's back in POG form. And so I just always think of that as someone who also made things into POGS as a kid.
00:00:28
Ryan
It's stuck there. Yeah.
00:00:32
Ryan
Oh, same. I had a pog maker.
00:00:33
Shauna (she/her)
I had, um I had the, yeah, thank you.
00:00:36
Ryan
I had the pog maker.
00:00:36
Shauna (she/her)
Love that.

Reflecting on the Past Year and Personal Growth

00:00:38
Shauna (she/her)
ah
00:00:38
Ryan
You know, I'm 30 or 40 years old too. I had a pog maker.
00:00:40
Shauna (she/her)
you think
00:00:43
Ryan
But we were talking about our sort of like general year in review. You had talked about Dodgeball. I, in our second recording, already talked about going to Puerto Rico and how incredible it was.
00:00:54
Ryan
And it reminded me what um unbridled joy felt like. And i perhaps I'm not gonna go into the depths of um how the emotional work I've done in therapy has brought me to some really bad places, but also brought me to some very good places, which is why overall, I think 2024 was um a pretty good year, um other than the fact that our entire country agreed um that we suck and are selfish.
00:01:22
Ryan
So that is not my favorite, but other than that,
00:01:25
Shauna (she/her)
Could be better.
00:01:27
Ryan
Yeah, I mean, coincidentally enough, like 2016 was one of the best years of my life. Like I got married, it was it was a great year other than the start of the downfall of our democratic society. I mean, not that it really has ever been truly democratic, but anyways. So let's get into the pop culture of it all. um Should we maybe start with the nerd stuff?

Gaming and Community Building

00:01:53
Shauna (she/her)
Yeah, I was thinking like, I think a great, like, as we think about what really made this past year special, we wanted to look back at some of our past guest hosts for this year and we asked them what their favorite nerd moments were.
00:01:58
Ryan
Yeah.
00:02:06
Shauna (she/her)
And so let's start with, um, let's start with Hector. And so they had said, it came out at the end of 2023, but Baldur's gate coming out and getting to nerd out in a D and D way without having to wait for the scheduling gods to plan a session.
00:02:20
Shauna (she/her)
And that's fair.
00:02:22
Ryan
Yes, absolutely.
00:02:22
Shauna (she/her)
Cause there was a lot of scheduling God to have it, you know, not as many D and D sessions as we wanted to, especially by the end of the year. But I think, you know, being able to find that easy community over video games is going to be a real theme and.
00:02:35
Ryan
Oh, for sure. And I mean, that's a good, I'm gonna like pick up Ryans, which is along the same lines, snacks.
00:02:37
Shauna (she/her)
as Yeah.
00:02:43
Ryan
I used to dream about spending an evening gaming online with my friends since I was a kid. I mostly played one player games, but I never really had a system that had the capability to game online with friends, now with Baldur's Gate, Elden Ring, Fortnite, and Marvel Rivals.
00:02:57
Ryan
I do it almost every day and it all basically happened this year. I mean, you know,
00:03:05
Ryan
I never thought I would be a person that like not only chooses to stay home and play video games, like stays up too late playing video games and has opinions on video games. like I've always liked them, I've always enjoyed them, but I was never a gamer. like We talked about earlier, like our paths diverted at me stopping that and getting into theater.
00:03:31
Ryan
and I, I, it's like my favorite. It's so much fun.
00:03:36
Shauna (she/her)
It's so much fun. And it's been a really great year for video games.
00:03:38
Ryan
All we do is talk shit to each other and giggle. It has been a great fucking year for video games. Let's talk about Fortnite.
00:03:44
Shauna (she/her)
you know
00:03:47
Shauna (she/her)
Fortnite has been, I never expected to find Fortnite as a game.
00:03:50
Ryan
I know.
00:03:52
Shauna (she/her)
In my life, I was just like, oh, I like never really got into the battle royale format. Like, and I would, I would play it.
00:03:58
Ryan
Right.
00:04:01
Shauna (she/her)
I don't want to say begrudgingly, but I would, I would never be like when, you know, friends who know I'm playing Marvel Rivals with when Chad and Angel would play Apex, I'd be like, I'm okay.
00:04:12
Shauna (she/her)
Cause like, it just didn't really speak to me, but
00:04:12
Ryan
Yeah. Yeah.
00:04:16
Shauna (she/her)
I've loved Fortnite. the All of the the dances, picking your character, all of those little details are so much fun and it is a very, the pickup and plainness of it I think speaks to its staying power and it's been so much fun to have that community and like
00:04:21
Ryan
Yeah. It's so fucking fun.
00:04:34
Shauna (she/her)
Because I think video games are like, I've always been an online gamer, like going back to like, at my college, we would connect our Xboxes into the la the ethernet and you could land with the school.
00:04:38
Ryan
Right.
00:04:47
Ryan
Yeah.
00:04:47
Shauna (she/her)
And so like, and like I started like starting a video game club.
00:04:49
Ryan
Oh yeah, you shared that on a previous episode.
00:04:51
Shauna (she/her)
Yeah, that was the right answer.
00:04:54
Ryan
just
00:04:54
Shauna (she/her)
That was always important to me.
00:04:56
Ryan
Also kind of funny because, um you know, I think we also talked about it on that same episode, um you know, saying something like, I wonder how long, you know, this will stick for like the, the Fortnite of it all. And it definitely lost its sheen a little bit for at least like, I know Ooxie kind of was over it. It is, you know, it's fun when it's fun, but then like, you know, the chapter ended or the season of and ended or or whatever, and it did that weird rewind one.
00:05:23
Ryan
Now they're back to some fun shit and I have low-key been trying to get everyone to play Fortnite, like to, you know, take a break from fucking Marvel Rivals and play a little bit of Fortnite.
00:05:34
Shauna (she/her)
look
00:05:35
Ryan
And I will literally say, she's the new girl on town.
00:05:35
Shauna (she/her)
she's the new girl in town
00:05:38
Ryan
I will literally say, do you guys want to get in a couple rounds of Fortnite?
00:05:38
Shauna (she/her)
we
00:05:41
Ryan
And it's silent. And then no one makes a sound and I say, okay, then we can just keep playing this. Like, no one takes it.
00:05:49
Shauna (she/her)
ah yeah
00:05:49
Ryan
No one wants it.
00:05:50
Shauna (she/her)
You know what, that was just the one that I took at the other I've taken it before that night I was that night though I was just like because I've we've been so we've been really enjoying Marvel Rivals like I think it's been our current like have you been how have you have your thoughts been because this is a real new genre for you and like I've been wanting to kind of talk about your experiences with it.
00:05:54
Ryan
You did, you did, you did.
00:06:01
Ryan
Yeah.
00:06:06
Ryan
Yes.
00:06:10
Ryan
It's, um it's, a yes.
00:06:10
Shauna (she/her)
So wait, for those who are let's just let me level several for those are where Marvel Rivals is a team based hero shooter.
00:06:14
Ryan
Please, please, please.
00:06:18
Shauna (she/her)
So if you've ever seen or played Overwatch, it's very much Overwatch, but with Marvel characters, literally the abilities overlap.
00:06:24
Ryan
Yes.
00:06:25
Shauna (she/her)
And I was a big Overwatch girlie. Like that was like my game.
00:06:28
Ryan
the
00:06:29
Shauna (she/her)
I like dressed up as Tracer to go to Comic Con. That's where I met Chris McCarpter wearing a Overwatch cosplay. was that so that was the like I loved Overwatch it was it's yeah yeah she was just like she like genuinely asked me and wanted to know about my character and I thought that was such a cool like things you don't have to do shout out to Chris McCarver for just being a wonderful like she was delightful oh goodness
00:06:39
Ryan
Oh my God. Didn't you, I think you've told me that story. Didn't she say like, who are you? And you told her and she was like, I don't know who that is, but you look great.
00:06:55
Ryan
Yeah.
00:06:58
Ryan
Yeah, yeah.
00:07:02
Ryan
I hope her politics have evolved because she was saying some pretty dumb Zionist shit ah last year. I know, I actually had to unfollow her.
00:07:09
Shauna (she/her)
Being it.
00:07:10
Ryan
I had to unfollow her.
00:07:10
Shauna (she/her)
Well, that's, um, I'm no, but like, it's like, it's like finding out Jason, like Jason Lee is a Scientologist or like, and that like, yeah, like i like, like the former skater.
00:07:12
Ryan
I know.
00:07:17
Ryan
Oh, he is?
00:07:22
Shauna (she/her)
Yeah. Like, it's just one of those like, but you know what, Kevin Smith's amazing.

Pop Culture Highlights and Critiques

00:07:25
Shauna (she/her)
Shout out to Kevin Smith and Ben Affleck.
00:07:25
Ryan
Kevin Smith, keep it up. Kevin Smith, keep it up.
00:07:29
Shauna (she/her)
Surprising.
00:07:30
Ryan
Yeah, fuck it up, Ben Affleck.
00:07:31
Shauna (she/her)
Yeah.
00:07:33
Shauna (she/her)
Yeah. Always like, but I was like, you know what? I appreciate that kind of like,
00:07:35
Ryan
And you know what? It's... Sorry, I didn't mean to get so pointed. But let's... One of the things that's on the like pop culture list of things, I was like you know trying to figure out you know what types of things we wanted to talk about.
00:07:52
Ryan
um was Benifer getting back together, I was very pro that.
00:07:56
Shauna (she/her)
So.
00:08:00
Ryan
I felt like we all kind of watched that Ben Affleck was clearly unhappy after their like he turned into a meme. After, you know, ah they broke up, like, he clearly, it seemed like, you you know, oh my God, Yay, they're getting back together. Like, they took so much time apart. Like, this is probably for the best. And they were in love with each other. They seemed like they were. And this time around, one of the movies that Ryan reminded us that we watched was JLo's fucking ah Amazon Prime, self-indulgent, narcissistic ass, I'm in love.
00:08:37
Ryan
movie that came out suspiciously close to Beyonce and Taylor Swift's movies. But this was an actual, it was more along the lines of like Lemonade where it was more of like a visual album than a movie.
00:08:50
Shauna (she/her)
Mm hmm.
00:08:52
Ryan
um But, you know, we got wicked high and watched it and it was fine if you didn't take it seriously, but the gag is she took it super seriously.
00:09:03
Ryan
like it And then they're divorced again, which makes me be like, okay, maybe it's you, Jen. Maybe you suck. Maybe the more we learn about you and how much you suck, maybe you suck.
00:09:16
Ryan
You didn't deserve Ben Affleck, which is not...
00:09:16
Shauna (she/her)
Like I watched this sell because of you.
00:09:20
Ryan
Hello? I, we were rooting for you. We were all rooting for you. Were you an AMTM person? America's Next Top Model?
00:09:29
Shauna (she/her)
No, I wasn't. I that see those were all the things like, and again, this is one of those where like girl stuff in like, where it's like Dara would always participate in that.
00:09:31
Ryan
Okay.
00:09:34
Ryan
That was girl stuff.
00:09:40
Shauna (she/her)
And then would be like, and then I would be like always like wistfully like looking on and like, and
00:09:46
Ryan
Yeah, well that would be fun to criticize women's bodies in like a violent way.
00:09:47
Shauna (she/her)
would have been happier if we switched places. Yeah, like just, you know, yeah, that that was really, like, yeah.
00:09:52
Ryan
The whole premise of, yeah, like the the episode, the worst and best episode was always the makeover episode because they would take all of the agency away from these women and like change things about, like I remember they, I think they shaved a black woman's head or something, or the they did something that was like, I mean, one, Tyra Banks,
00:10:02
Shauna (she/her)
Oh,
00:10:13
Shauna (she/her)
I do. I remember seeing the, like,
00:10:20
Ryan
you know, black trailblazer, but also participated in a whole lot of violently anti-black shit and led a lot of violently anti-black shit. But like it was...
00:10:31
Shauna (she/her)
One isn't that part of the way that puts often ends up using, you know, like
00:10:36
Ryan
Oh yeah.

Community, Compassion, and Gaming Inclusivity

00:10:36
Shauna (she/her)
as a protocol.
00:10:37
Shauna (she/her)
And I think that's such a, yeah, yeah.
00:10:37
Ryan
The master's tools.
00:10:40
Shauna (she/her)
ah they I know I'm answering anything you don't know, but like, just, but that's the.
00:10:40
Ryan
Yeah.
00:10:43
Ryan
yeah Yeah, but i mean I literally just mentioned that to somebody the other day. like you You can't climb to positions of power and and and see me it seems like, because so many people have shown us, that you can't climb positions of power without losing your fucking mind.
00:10:46
Shauna (she/her)
Yeah.
00:11:01
Ryan
and like subscribing to the same ideology that keeps people oppressed like you were one of the premier black supermodels and then you screamed at a black girl who had an quote unquote attitude on national television and made her a fucking ah Like a generational meme granted.
00:11:27
Ryan
It was more everyone's kind of making fun of Tyra um Because her behavior was fucking wild. I watched that season in real time um But ah yeah, I was an anti em girl but like it was Yeah
00:11:33
Shauna (she/her)
No kidding.
00:11:39
Shauna (she/her)
Because I'm assuming, and I didn't know this, but I'm assuming that's where the we're rooting for you, we we're all rooting for you meme comes from is where is the, yeah, is that like, yeah, yeah.
00:11:44
Ryan
Yeah, that's OG Tyra Banks, pre-viral viral. She was yelling at a black girl who had ah like, I mean, let us not forget.
00:11:49
Shauna (she/her)
Okay.
00:11:55
Ryan
Like, no one really won America's Next Top Model. Everyone just got worse, like, you know, eating disorders and, like, body dysmorphia. And, like, they really did a number on those cast members. And I don't mean to, um you know, discredit the work of models or how hard, you know, these... whatever. I don't mean to... I'm more critiquing the show. um However,
00:12:19
Ryan
that This girl had um She had like a little bit of an attitude, but she had a right to have an attitude She's being critiqued by like four strangers saying mean things to her Ultimately, they were sending her home like she was getting sent home. She lost like that but it was an elimination and she had ah feelings and um After she said goodbye to all the girls, Tyra called her back to the carpet um and started to scold her for like being, quote, unappreciative. And then it turned into her kind of trying to like stand up for herself and contextualize.
00:12:59
Ryan
you know like it's been very hard for me like i don't remember all the but context of it but she interrupted her and she was like everybody's been through stuff like that's it's just fucking wild it's just fucking wild and once again we have gone off the goddamn rails i'm talking about tyra banks shauna it's your fault are
00:13:15
Shauna (she/her)
You know, yeah, so as we were saying, video games are a great communal, like the TLDR of that.
00:13:21
Ryan
a great equalizer okay so we've gotten through
00:13:23
Shauna (she/her)
Yeah. Yeah. But no, but like the but that community aspect and like, oh, we were talking about your experience with um Marvel Rivals was, yeah, obviously, which is obviously how we got to America's Next Top Model, obviously.
00:13:29
Ryan
With Marvel Rivals, yes, yes, yes. Wow. Next time on Tyra Banks Anti-Blackness, yes.
00:13:36
Shauna (she/her)
As you can obviously see the segue there.
00:13:37
Ryan
A normal thread.
00:13:38
Shauna (she/her)
Yeah.
00:13:39
Ryan
A normal thread. I'm actually gonna clip out that entire middle section so it just goes, video games, Tyra Banks, video games.
00:13:43
Shauna (she/her)
and So it's not going to be Charlie from it's always sunny like pointing like yeah Yeah
00:13:47
Ryan
Yes, yes, yes. Yeah, it's been, it was never my style of game. um I mean, in general, like shooting games were never my thing. I was always kind of like, I liked video games, I liked platforming games, I like RPGs. um But that type of like, you know, aim and shoot thing always is very intimidating to me. um And it just never seemed like something I would be good at. And then it didn't help that like, you know, when you join those games, and you're playing online, you're playing against people who are often very good at those games.
00:14:23
Ryan
So sometimes it just feels like you can't even get a second to practice because you're getting your ass beat every time you step out of the fucking spawn zone.
00:14:29
Shauna (she/her)
Oh.
00:14:33
Shauna (she/her)
God.
00:14:35
Ryan
Like it's been, I had like, I think yesterday I was feeling really fucking discouraged just playing it, but like, you know, it's, you kind of get over it.
00:14:36
Shauna (she/her)
So true.
00:14:43
Shauna (she/her)
o
00:14:46
Ryan
Like it's, you know, you have that game.
00:14:47
Shauna (she/her)
Some days are going to be where it's just not like the other team is counting.
00:14:49
Ryan
Yeah.
00:14:51
Shauna (she/her)
And that's where I love the chess match of it all of like, Oh, there's so many different possibilities and so many different things you can do, they can do, and you can do that.
00:14:54
Ryan
Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm.
00:14:59
Shauna (she/her)
Like that it very much, it's like, it's like dodge ball for me. Like it feels very similar in that kind of way and why both kind of sports speak to me in a lot of it.
00:15:03
Ryan
Yes.
00:15:08
Ryan
Yeah.
00:15:09
Shauna (she/her)
But yeah, so, but like I love in, you know, and I know it's something that,
00:15:11
Ryan
Things I thought that I would not be good at that I am actually good at. Video games and dodgeball.
00:15:15
Shauna (she/her)
Right. Absolutely. And like your video game, like your video game play is so jumped and like, i you know, and I think it doesn't help.
00:15:20
Ryan
Yes, thank you.
00:15:22
Shauna (she/her)
it I think it's the best and worst thing to that. Stacks and I are both very good at the things we do and we're both very good.
00:15:29
Ryan
right You're like really crazy good.
00:15:31
Shauna (she/her)
So.
00:15:33
Ryan
Ryan is very good. And I know like when he listens to this, he will get his feelings hurt. So shut the fuck up. um I'm not talking badly about you. I'm talking nicely about Shauna. You're like insane.
00:15:44
Ryan
Like you get and MVP at least twice. if If we play four or five rounds, you're getting MVP at least twice, even in games we lose.
00:15:55
Ryan
Like you're very, very good at these games.
00:15:57
Shauna (she/her)
Thank you. and yeah And yeah, and that's where, but that's where my life experience of having played first-person shooters going back to GoldenEye and the the C and that was where those were the ways in which I learned to speak the language of straight boys.
00:16:05
Ryan
Right. Yes. A game I was intimidated by.
00:16:18
Shauna (she/her)
And that was how i that was how I got along and like coped and you know was able to kind of find my way in was through those games.
00:16:18
Ryan
Yeah.
00:16:19
Ryan
Same thing.
00:16:27
Shauna (she/her)
And so being and luckily being good at them and kind of naturally inclined really helped me you know get the setup, also helped me
00:16:35
Ryan
Figure it out.
00:16:36
Shauna (she/her)
figure it out, but also help me then help extend to others and kind of can then open. I always try to open the doors for others. And that's where like, cause I don't like being, you know, elitist about it.
00:16:43
Ryan
Yeah.
00:16:47
Shauna (she/her)
Cause I think a lot, there's a lot of elitism in video games and in skill.
00:16:50
Ryan
yeah
00:16:51
Shauna (she/her)
And that's never really been my perspective or MO. So that's where I always really try to always like help, in you know, get those around me to be better and help find those like things that can help put them in positions of success too.
00:17:06
Ryan
just side because like you're, you know, again, once again, it's an allegory for how we're all just trying to find the things that were not granted to us. Like I like being in sort of like a coach captain capacity. I don't really like captaining the logistics of it. It's I have to do too much of that outside of, you know, rec sports. I like to just show up, be enthusiastic and a coach, but I don't want to captain, um which is why you and I, again, we've said work well as a ah co-captain situation, but um These games are fun and everyone should have the right to fucking play them and
00:17:46
Ryan
Growing up in those spaces that were so hyper-masculine, violently hyper-masculine, and not feeling comfortable, I already felt like everyone was like judging me, critiquing me, and then add on the fact that they were, because I wasn't necessarily great at it, because I'm six foot two, and I've been six foot two since I was fucking 14. It took a while for me to figure out what my limbs did, because I was too busy doing theater.
00:18:15
Ryan
like that I only learned, you know, spatial awareness through dance. Like that was what taking dance classes. Anyways, I'm not going to get sidetracked. Back step dance, back step sports. That's why I like coaching because like compassion and enthusiasm are all you need to be a good teammate and a good coach. You just need to be compassionate and patient.
00:18:45
Ryan
like, and enthusiastic. Like, the patient's wanes, and if you are coaching someone who is coachable, they will also understand that sometimes people lose their patience and we're humans.
00:18:57
Ryan
But that, when you find, like, the person that takes you in and is like, you can be good at this, like, you just need the right person.
00:19:07
Shauna (she/her)
Mm hmm.
00:19:07
Ryan
For for me, that was Stonewall, which is why it's also so devastating that it is, not what I want it to be anymore. um But for video games, it's the two of you.
00:19:16
Shauna (she/her)
It's anything that's where having trying to find those. Yeah, and like trying to find those experiences and trying to find those connections and like wanting to like because I again, like I think it's because I never felt like I I've never been especially like strong or like like was never looked at as being like, oh,
00:19:25
Ryan
Yeah.
00:19:37
Shauna (she/her)
That one's good at athletics, like was never really pointed in my direction from childhood, you know, like and it was always like, right.
00:19:44
Ryan
Meanwhile, everyone told me I was supposed to be good at sport.
00:19:47
Shauna (she/her)
Right.
00:19:47
Ryan
My entire life.
00:19:47
Shauna (she/her)
Oh yeah. No, it was like, well, like I will, I will always remember, you know, like when talking about, you know, my athletic ability, my dad said that I was good at school.
00:19:59
Shauna (she/her)
And like that, like, it was like, just like you change the subject.
00:19:59
Ryan
Yeah.
00:20:02
Shauna (she/her)
But that was always, and I forget, I played tennis year round and ended up making like the JV tennis team at my like, you know, nice like Catholic school, but like the tennis, that's not, not, not nothing.
00:20:13
Ryan
yeah
00:20:15
Shauna (she/her)
Like.
00:20:15
Ryan
It's not nothing. Yeah, it turns out I'm capable of things. um Yes.
00:20:20
Shauna (she/her)
Absolutely. and But yeah, so community. And so, and speaking of which, our other, like the other, I had, we'd also asked Kelly and Uxy and they both pointed to Agathol along and Kelly really enjoyed getting to watch Agathol along and talk about and make theories about, which is again, something that I really enjoyed that we all really enjoyed watching, getting to kind of theorize together.
00:20:33
Ryan
Right.
00:20:44
Shauna (she/her)
I thought it was such a really great part and like where I love, I love a Zeitgeist show. And I thought that i in a way even if it's not everybody, like it doesn't need to be everybody, but having it at least be the like people in my life are all watching it with the same zeal as me.
00:20:50
Ryan
Yeah, and everyone's talking about it. Well, not actually. Yeah.
00:21:01
Ryan
Yes.
00:21:04
Shauna (she/her)
And Ooxie also
00:21:04
Ryan
Yes.
00:21:06
Shauna (she/her)
Ooxie got to see his all time favorite comic book character, Billy Kaplan, aka Wiccan, come to life and get the glow up he deserves.
00:21:14
Ryan
Yes.
00:21:14
Shauna (she/her)
And I think that getting the glow up he deserves is such a wonderful sentiment.
00:21:19
Ryan
Absolutely.
00:21:19
Shauna (she/her)
And I think it's such a beautiful part of, you know, getting to see these characters, like that's the best feeling when your property gets adapted into a different, you know, Avenue is being like,
00:21:28
Ryan
Yes, correctly or well.
00:21:31
Shauna (she/her)
Yeah. Cause it's like, you know, it's one thing when you're like, I guess, you know what?
00:21:32
Ryan
Yeah.
00:21:35
Shauna (she/her)
A leather suit does make sense for Daredevil. He would be Ben Affleck.
00:21:40
Ryan
Right, right.
00:21:40
Shauna (she/her)
That's cool.
00:21:41
Ryan
ah Sure, this is fun.
00:21:41
Shauna (she/her)
You know, Ben Affleck was also a Daredevil, but a Daredevil fan and a nerd. So, you know what?
00:21:46
Ryan
Yes.
00:21:46
Shauna (she/her)
It can't knock him too much for it. So I do, you know, with the weird Colin Farrell bullseye carved in cause they didn't, they didn't trust that they could do the comic accurate.
00:21:48
Ryan
Yes.
00:21:56
Shauna (she/her)
Always want a better bullseye.
00:21:58
Ryan
Yeah, i um as Electra, a breed, a quick back step to um to Agatha, um our other one of our other guests, Chris, also um named Agatha as one of the best ah parts of the nerd year.
00:21:58
Shauna (she/her)
ah We did get to see Jennifer Garner reprise her role as a lecturer, speaking of which that was a great part of 2024.

Marvel, Strategy, and Gaming Mechanics

00:22:20
Ryan
um Yeah, I really was never like a huge Young Avengers person. Like I knew who Wiccan was. I've read Young Avengers. I've read a lot of the crucial stories of of the Young Avengers, and just not so much anymore. um But you know, oh, I'm 35. Oh my God. Something just popped just for no reason because I reached down like, fuck.
00:22:48
Ryan
um Yeah, I was never, it was never Wiccan, it was always Wanda for me. And it like, again, when you, when you get to see people experience something they love,
00:23:04
Ryan
And like, I didn't really care that much about seeing Wiccan from like, uh, oh my God, like this is my favorite character. It's just, it's cool to see him on screen, but like to see your favorite and to see it done well, like it just made me so happy when we got to, we got to experience him.
00:23:21
Ryan
seeing Wiccan in costume for the first time. And it was just like, yeah, that's what lifelong memories are of. Like, we will tease him for the rest of his life for the fact that he nearly teared up seeing Wiccan coming straight in for the first time.
00:23:37
Ryan
Like, you fucking homosexual. That's why we love you, Uxman.
00:23:43
Shauna (she/her)
I do want now this is just making me wonder if pure chaos was ever ordered and I'm just going to leave it at that.
00:23:45
Ryan
So, yes, please.
00:23:50
Ryan
ah
00:23:52
Ryan
I wonder. It was not. You weren't on. he k It was not. he he's He said no.
00:23:57
Shauna (she/her)
Oh.
00:23:59
Ryan
He said he thought about it, but he James hasn't watched him play enough.
00:24:01
Shauna (she/her)
You know what I call it immediately.
00:24:05
Ryan
Yeah, James hasn't watched him play Marvel's Rivals enough.
00:24:06
Shauna (she/her)
Oh my God, that's. OK, that's clearly the moment. OK, that'll be we have to encourage him to play more solely for that, so OK.
00:24:10
Ryan
Yeah.
00:24:14
Ryan
For that. like I can't wait to find the right person to scream pure chaos with.
00:24:15
Shauna (she/her)
Yeah.
00:24:20
Shauna (she/her)
It's going to be it's going to be pure gas.
00:24:21
Ryan
Yeah. So ah Marvel Rivals in general has just been really fun to see all these characters get to, um you know, get some justice, not some justice.
00:24:34
Ryan
It's just...
00:24:34
Shauna (she/her)
Wow.
00:24:35
Ryan
This is such a different game than anything we've ever had with Marvel. Like you either got some you know kind of cool RPG or um ah you know ah like a platform.
00:24:48
Ryan
theres There's just never been this sort of like online component, at least that I can think of.
00:24:52
Shauna (she/her)
Yeah, where there's no this like PvP like element game where and like, yeah.
00:24:55
Ryan
Yeah. Where you get to make a character yours, like who are your manes right now?
00:25:02
Shauna (she/her)
My mains are cloak and dagger. I've loved playing as them. I love the attack and defense switch. And like, I can really take advantage of that in a lot of times.
00:25:09
Ryan
Yeah, yeah.
00:25:11
Shauna (she/her)
so So I think that's the support. Uh, as for tanks, Thor has been my Thor and Hulk are my two go-tos. I think they're both pretty aggressive and I really like being able to kind of get in there.
00:25:19
Ryan
yeah
00:25:22
Shauna (she/her)
I think Thor is a little overpowered. Like, cause I think that like he can just, you know, take out a couple in like two or three heads.
00:25:27
Ryan
And yet I can't stop dying when I'm him. I'm so bad with him.
00:25:30
Shauna (she/her)
Hey, but that's where we're going to need, I'll be Hulk and then give you the, like, I think a little bit of shielding. I think that's the trick.
00:25:35
Ryan
Mm-hmm. Yeah.
00:25:37
Shauna (she/her)
And then as for DPS, I love being Punisher, especially when snacks is.
00:25:40
Ryan
What's DPS?
00:25:42
Shauna (she/her)
Oh, uh, that is damage per second, which is an old term, but basically it's a.
00:25:45
Ryan
Also known as a dual list.
00:25:47
Shauna (she/her)
Yeah. A duelist in the nomenclature of rivals, but the damage character, because there's the three big classes are always support.
00:25:50
Ryan
Right.
00:25:53
Shauna (she/her)
So your healers, or sometimes they'll do different things like give like speed boosts or whatnot, you know, all more your, and then your tanks were just going to soak up your damage.
00:26:03
Ryan
Right.
00:26:04
Shauna (she/her)
Just going to take you know take up space and yeah and then yeah and let give your DPS, your damage characters, room to operate and to then deal their damage without having people be focusing on them.
00:26:06
Ryan
and hopefully do a bunch of damage.
00:26:18
Shauna (she/her)
Because that's where the tank wants to be making problems, so that way your DPS can cause problems.
00:26:18
Ryan
Right.
00:26:24
Shauna (she/her)
is the way And then your support fixes it all.
00:26:25
Ryan
Right. Wow, that's a really helpful way of thinking about it.
00:26:29
Shauna (she/her)
Yeah.
00:26:30
Ryan
Because it definitely is... there ah This is ah you know one of those super dumb things to say out loud, but like there's so much strategy to it. like you know Realizing where you need to be.
00:26:39
Shauna (she/her)
Yeah.
00:26:41
Ryan
like Our friend Hector, who also hasn't really ever played games of this capacity... you know I remember we were... um playing the other night and we said like you can't be in the mix when you're a healer like you have to be on the outside and it just it's something that you learn and really one of the only reasons I probably even know that is just because I have been playing with you all for a while but um Yeah, i I really like being a healer. um I love Loki. I'm like a maximalist. No, i'm not the right, that's not the right word. um I like to be able to do a lot, even in those situations. So characters that feel very limited in what they can do. Like, even though, you know, Dr. Strange is like a sub main for me, for my tanks. I haven't really found my favorite tank. I think I'm starting to like Penny Parker. I just need to
00:27:34
Ryan
get her a little bit better, like in terms of taking advantage of how crazy good she can be. um But I use Dr. Strange as a tool, a you as a tool you know like a ah helpful tool when we know what we're doing.
00:27:48
Shauna (she/her)
Yeah.
00:27:51
Ryan
um healers. I love i love lowkey. um I also love cloak and dagger. I'm obsessed with cloak. um I do not have the speed and um ease of switching back and forth that Shauna has. It's fucking wild watching you switch back and forth.
00:28:11
Ryan
um But yeah, I think I really like being a healer for my DPS. um Unfortunately, true believers, um I don't particularly care a for playing as Storm.
00:28:26
Ryan
um She's wildly disappointing. like ah She's a great utilitarian character for some parts, but like it's whack how little
00:28:30
Shauna (she/her)
i
00:28:38
Ryan
She's an Omega level mutant and her two biggest attributes.
00:28:40
Shauna (she/her)
I... We've heard the theme song, like...
00:28:43
Ryan
You've heard the theme song. She's the first and canonically in the MCU, the first mutant to be referred to as an Omega level mutant on screen.
00:28:57
Ryan
because the other time that they talk about Omega level mutants is in, I think, Dark Phoenix, and maybe not even, and ah the first Dark Phoenix.
00:29:06
Shauna (she/her)
I don't even know that they did.
00:29:09
Ryan
I remember them talking about ranking mutants in um The Last Stand, not Dark Phoenix, the Dark Phoenix saga as The Last Stand.
00:29:11
Shauna (she/her)
Hmm.
00:29:15
Shauna (she/her)
OK, OK.
00:29:18
Ryan
Anyways, the... Storm is just, she, she's not even really DPS. Like you might as well just make her a support. Like her biggest things are her, she doesn't do damage.
00:29:29
Shauna (she/her)
I think she plays more like a. Gosh, honestly, though. I think making her a support that doesn't heal is actually much more.
00:29:39
Ryan
So whack.
00:29:41
Shauna (she/her)
yeah no but i think that's but that is much I think she would be better if they tuned if they tuned her kit to be more in that vein or they need upper damage more and make her more of a sniper because I feel like she just quite doesn't
00:29:49
Ryan
Yeah. yeah like
00:29:55
Shauna (she/her)
ah She should play more like Namor does, who's kind of a mid-range snipey.
00:29:59
Ryan
Yes. Yes.
00:30:01
Shauna (she/her)
Because that's where like I've liked Namor. He has turrets. I think that, like again, like she could also have like turrets with like basically like lane clouds or storm clouds.
00:30:06
Ryan
I need to play some more.
00:30:10
Ryan
Yeah, why can't she make like little, you know, oh why can't she change the weather?
00:30:10
Shauna (she/her)
like
00:30:14
Shauna (she/her)
Yeah.
00:30:16
Ryan
Why can't she have, you know, five lightning strikes that come down in a radius? Like,
00:30:21
Shauna (she/her)
She should she could slow down the other team just as she speeds up the your team. i But that's what things I would do.
00:30:26
Ryan
and was Yeah, why aren't they? Pay us money, whichever company. Marvel Games.
00:30:32
Shauna (she/her)
i Yeah.
00:30:32
Ryan
Pay first pay your actual game developers. Like we're obviously, you know, please continue to pay them and pay them better.
00:30:37
Shauna (she/her)
Yeah.
00:30:39
Ryan
um Okay, so I like my other DPS is Moon Knight and Scarlet Witch and Punisher.
00:30:39
Shauna (she/her)
Yeah.
00:30:46
Shauna (she/her)
probably Which has been really fun.
00:30:46
Ryan
I'm a projectile girly. I really enjoy Scarlet Witch.
00:30:50
Shauna (she/her)
I do, too.
00:30:52
Ryan
it's It's... You know, sorry, Uxmal, that's his main main, like there was a period of time where I just wouldn't play as her, but um where no one was allowed to play as her.
00:31:01
Shauna (she/her)
Yeah, we did kind of have a deferential respect around Scarlet Witch there for a minute where we wouldn't even play as her when he wasn't with us.
00:31:01
Ryan
and Yes, exactly. And Storm too, I think i got I got the same first rate of refusal.
00:31:08
Shauna (she/her)
yeah Yeah, but that was a lot easier as Storm was very, yeah, like, yes, but also then it didn't help that when we're like, we would then like, when we started to kind of break that seal for both of those characters, it was like, oh, actually, maybe we will try keep trying Scarlet Witch sometimes, but Storm's cool.
00:31:10
Ryan
Yeah, yeah.
00:31:19
Ryan
Yes, yes.
00:31:24
Ryan
Agreed. Yeah, storm's fine.
00:31:26
Shauna (she/her)
Which is such a shame. Like, and I really do hope that that I think that's my prediction for whenever the season two, I'm guessing it'll come out for their like official season one is when they're going to come out with the first patch.
00:31:32
Ryan
Patch it.
00:31:36
Ryan
Oh yeah, when is that supposed to happen?
00:31:38
Shauna (she/her)
I think this one's only like a month long. So I think it runs through like maybe sometime in January and then like, I think it's probably going to switch over.
00:31:42
Ryan
The end of the year.
00:31:45
Ryan
Cool.
00:31:49
Ryan
um Okay, so our other, ah oh, this is, i so our um guest, Jamila, when I asked her what her favorite nerd moment of the year was, or like, you know, top 24 moments, her response was, um can Megan Thee Stallion's bomb-ass year

Music Industry Insights and Artist Empowerment

00:32:09
Ryan
count?
00:32:10
Ryan
And I said, yes, all caps, absolutely.
00:32:11
Shauna (she/her)
Absolutely.
00:32:13
Ryan
um Because she had a great fucking year.
00:32:13
Shauna (she/her)
She did have a great year.
00:32:19
Ryan
She had a great year. I have been a Megan Thee Stallion fan for a number of years um and just watching her progress into, you know, sort of mainstream hip-hop and then like front page hip-hop like to be a dominating force in rap.
00:32:39
Ryan
is just really, really great because she's such, first of all, she is the namesake. So if you don't understand the reference, um ah Megan Thee Stallion, so one of her tags in her songs is real hot girl shit. And ah It's also the tongue-out going, ah. And a long time ago, I started referring to things as real hot nerd shit. And ah then it became the name of a group chat. And then it became the name of this podcast. And then I finally found the person to do it with, or the people to do it with. Shout out to the un the unaired pilot episode with Ryan. um But ah that's our namesake is after Megan Thee Stallion. So the fact that she had a great year
00:33:26
Ryan
including this podcast being born, is... remarkable. We love that for her.
00:33:31
Shauna (she/her)
And I'm sure she wouldn't make in the style and looks back at her a year. I'm sure she thinks about this podcast and her part that she played in it is one of her favorite parts too.
00:33:37
Ryan
ah
00:33:39
Shauna (she/her)
I can only imagine. So.
00:33:41
Ryan
Look, I am a powerful fucking witch. I'm speaking it into the universe. She'll find out and she'll she'll come on this shit. Let me, all I gotta to do is slide in one, I just gotta slide in the right DM or the right person's gotta get tagged.
00:33:57
Shauna (she/her)
Not the truth.
00:33:58
Ryan
So if you are a person that has music connections or something, do you know how happy I would be, specifically.
00:34:10
Ryan
If Megan Thee Stallion even just recorded an audio byte of her saying, real hot nerd shit, I would actually make it my ringtone. I would make it my doorbell sound.
00:34:20
Shauna (she/her)
You'd even use ringtones. That's how much it would be important.
00:34:23
Ryan
Exactly.
00:34:24
Shauna (she/her)
Like you would have your sound. Your phone would make noise in the year 2025. That's a big deal. We can't discount that like.
00:34:31
Ryan
We cannot discount the importance of me turning my phone off vibrate. Are you kidding? um Yeah, it just, it makes me really happy. I don't, I've always loved rap and always loved hip hop. But, you know, again, I didn't get the exposure to women rappers that I wish I would have in my formative years.
00:34:52
Ryan
I'll always be a pop girlie, but the fact that genres like barely exist anymore, like unless you are deep, deep in one specific thing, you know genre blending is is the norm, I guess, um which is you know commentary on Beyonce, which we will talk about perhaps as a segue from this.
00:34:55
Shauna (she/her)
Mm hmm.
00:35:13
Ryan
but um Meghan's album, Meghan, was one of my top five favorite albums of the year. um Seeing her just really become sort of like a pop culture staple has been really cool. She hosted the VMAs, which I guess is like not that big of a deal, but um well, it is a really big deal, but it's not that big of a deal to like people that aren't millennials. um But it did create a lot of great online content, but the thing that is arguably the most important is that she got her masters. So um in most, in many, and Ryan would probably be a much better person to um to describe this, but i hope he I hope I do him justice. So um many, many
00:36:08
Ryan
uh artists are in con oh yeah my god i bet he would absolutely do that we should talk to him about that exactly um so you're you're basically owning the rights to your song so like even if you
00:36:08
Shauna (she/her)
I really just want him to be our producer. Like I think he's the one that I always think of would have like, who should be our producer? Who's like also like here, like like, like we could just like cut to and could do the like, like the, like, I think it would, we should talk actually. Yeah. Let's, let's speak of manifesting things. That's a good like.
00:36:38
Ryan
So owning the rights to your masters is basically owning the right to your music like um and what is done with your music and how it is like recreated and how it is credited. um Most artists are not in recording contracts where they own their masters. They do not get to decide what happens to their music. And um I mean, in so some cases, you know you might have cool record labels, I can't imagine.
00:37:04
Ryan
many are cool, but like to be able to un...
00:37:09
Ryan
on a bat or like unbound, do whatever you want to do with your music. And also I think there, I know there's a financial part to it, like where they actually are getting paid the appropriate amount for how much they work a lot of, in a lot of cases. um That's what Taylor Swift was doing when she releases all of her Taylor's version is she is re-releasing her songs at, I believe as her masters. And um Uh, Megan is the first rapper to own her masters, at least the first female rapper to own her masters.
00:37:44
Ryan
Um, I don't really think about boy rap. Um, I would say that Kendrick Lamar's GNX is, um, I would put that in my top five, but unfortunately Sabrina Carpenter also exists.
00:37:55
Ryan
So sorry, Kendrick Lamar. Uh, I am, uh, I'm a s Sabrina, I'm a Sabrina girl. Um,
00:38:03
Shauna (she/her)
Sabrina did have a really great year too.
00:38:04
Ryan
She had a great ear.
00:38:04
Shauna (she/her)
like and a like
00:38:06
Ryan
I am getting a little bit tired of the shtick, if I'm being honest.
00:38:06
Shauna (she/her)
a cream
00:38:10
Shauna (she/her)
Interestingly.
00:38:10
Ryan
Have you seen her hair oil commercial that's like, to keep a good bang, because she knows she has like a little bang, um you know, to keep a good bang, I use blah, blah, blah, because you always want, it's like, all right, girl, we get it.
00:38:11
Shauna (she/her)
like
00:38:22
Ryan
You fuck, like you're, it's your thing. Cool, cute, love it.
00:38:26
Shauna (she/her)
You know what? And to be fair, I am excited for that Sabrina Carpenter Christmas special.
00:38:29
Ryan
You're the next, yeah, we have to figure out a time to watch it.
00:38:31
Shauna (she/her)
I think that did look. I would like I would absolutely I would love to watch that. That sounds delightful. That was the things.
00:38:38
Ryan
You can ask.
00:38:38
Shauna (she/her)
Speak of things that were never in my like what I thought would be my purview, like like your video games is me like, no, I do want to watch the Sabrina Carpenter musical special.
00:38:42
Ryan
Yeah.
00:38:47
Shauna (she/her)
That is my like that is where I feel very like my like, you know, but like getting to but getting to share the things we love is such a important part and like.
00:38:50
Ryan
yeah
00:38:54
Ryan
It's true.
00:38:58
Shauna (she/her)
and finding the joy in what, you know, so getting to see that through the lens of your friends is such an easy way to find appreciation for things you might not have had previously.
00:38:58
Ryan
um
00:39:08
Ryan
Agreed, human, it's the it's the humanity of it all. It's this person that I know cares about this thing, so it must have some value. um But yeah, so kind of tying a couple of thoughts together. um you know I was talking about Kendrick. His album is remarkable. um it it is It's made its way onto my playlist. He has also had a banner fucking year, including the Kendrick and Drake beef, which, um again, as a person who doesn't listen to boy rap, I was like, oh my god, they're being so messy. The girls are fighting. Azalea Banks, GIF, the girls are fighting.
00:39:45
Ryan
um And, you know, ultimately Kendrick won, like no questions asked. um But he also is, ah it's great to see that ah people are talking about Drake being a fucking gross predator.
00:40:01
Ryan
and um You know, it's not the last time we'll talk about accusations of being a sexual predator, but, uh, either on this episode or in real life. But, uh, yeah, it it was kind of like watching someone get just desserts. Like, don't start fights. You can't win, girl. And also, um, Kendrick Lamar's in a book.
00:40:25
Ryan
ah Nobel Prize, did he win a Nobel Prize? No, he won um the Writing Award, not a Peabody Award. We deserve to put some respect on this award. Not the Grammys.
00:40:42
Shauna (she/her)
Yeah, shout out to search function being completely broken on the internet.
00:40:46
Ryan
Pulitzer Prize.
00:40:48
Shauna (she/her)
Yeah.
00:40:49
Ryan
He's a Pulitzer Prize winning artist.
00:40:50
Shauna (she/her)
Hmm.
00:40:52
Ryan
um And you are Aubrey Graham from fucking Degrassi.
00:40:59
Ryan
So Jimmy, yes, which I did not watch.
00:40:59
Shauna (she/her)
Jimmy.
00:41:01
Ryan
Were you a Degrassi girl?
00:41:02
Shauna (she/her)
I didn't know, but, but Kelly was. And so I know that he's Jimmy because she loves to grassy.
00:41:05
Ryan
Okay. Yeah, I never... It would be on when I was getting ready for school in the morning, but it just never, it never stuck.
00:41:13
Shauna (she/her)
No, never was my, missed it.
00:41:18
Ryan
Overall, though, I would say it's an it was a great year for music, specifically pop music. um It was a really good year. ah We've already said Sabrina Carpenter, Short and Sweet's a really fun, cute album. Her Christmas special looks adorable, which reminded me that Casey Musgraves also has like a Christmas special, which is also kind of cute and adorable.
00:41:40
Ryan
um But she released an album at the beginning of this year that I couldn't handle. I think I listened to it once. It's way too sad, like in a bad way.
00:41:50
Shauna (she/her)
Oh.
00:41:51
Ryan
Eternal Sunshine is sad in a good way for me. Eternal Sunshine from Ariana Grande is like then probably number two, if not 1A for the year for me under Cowboy Carter.
00:41:55
Shauna (she/her)
Okay.
00:42:00
Shauna (she/her)
Interesting.
00:42:04
Ryan
um It has a lot of You know, it's it's ah it's a concept album around the movie Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.
00:42:11
Shauna (she/her)
Hmm.
00:42:13
Ryan
Have you ever seen it?
00:42:15
Ryan
Oh, great film.
00:42:16
Shauna (she/her)
I know.
00:42:18
Ryan
Great, great film. I haven't watched it since high school, but the it stuck with me. Like the whole premise, if you've never seen it, is... um yeah erasing someone from your mind. Like you can erase a person from your mind ah to remove all the pain. So it's like, you know, the the central characters are Jim Carrey and Kate Winslet. And ah they break up and I think one of them erases one of the other one. I think Jim Carrey erases her from his memory. um And then, you know, romance, et etc. I don't really remember the rest of the thing. But
00:42:53
Ryan
um That's the concept of the album, and it very much so served a purpose for me going through the early parts of like my formal divorce. like I got divorced in November.
00:43:07
Ryan
The first song from this album came out in January, and the album came out in March. um Yes, and actually came out the day that I was driving to Michigan for that kink drawing class.
00:43:19
Ryan
ah And it was that awful snowstorm, um Martin Luther King Jr.
00:43:23
Shauna (she/her)
Well,
00:43:24
Ryan
weekend. It was one of the first moments of my life where I was like, yeah, in January.
00:43:27
Shauna (she/her)
that was when I was in, or wait, or the January one. Yeah. Cause that was where I was in Vegas. And I remember like people's flights like got canceled and they didn't make it.
00:43:37
Ryan
Yes. Oh, right.
00:43:39
Shauna (she/her)
Cause it was, cause that was where, that was where I was that weekend.
00:43:43
Ryan
Oh my God, also the the other like major flight cancellation thing that happened this weekend, this year, when the security company failed or whatever and all the flights went, like all the flights.
00:43:52
Shauna (she/her)
Oh my gosh, during Stonewall Nationals? Yeah.
00:43:54
Ryan
Stonewall Nationals, basically the the world was saying stop traveling for sports, you homosexuals.
00:43:56
Shauna (she/her)
Yeah.
00:43:59
Shauna (she/her)
Yeah, especially gay sports. Yeah. The gay sports cut that shit out and we're like, go fuck yourself.
00:44:01
Ryan
Yeah. Cut that shit out.
00:44:04
Shauna (she/her)
We're going to keep, we're going to keep gay sportsing. We're going to keep gay sports even harder.
00:44:06
Ryan
Yeah. We're going to get, yeah, we are.
00:44:10
Shauna (she/her)
Speaking of gay sports, I've got my hot to throw, like you can kind of see it like on my water bottle.
00:44:10
Ryan
um I actually was going to ask, I couldn't remember what our um what are Dodgeball team name is.
00:44:16
Shauna (she/her)
Yeah. Chaperone.
00:44:23
Shauna (she/her)
Oh, our dodgeball team name is dodge the witch's throw.
00:44:29
Ryan
Dodge the witch's throw. Yes, correct. Thank you so much. I did forget.
00:44:32
Shauna (she/her)
Dodge, dodge, dodge the throw, dodge the witch's throw.
00:44:34
Ryan
Dodge the throw. Dodge the witch's throw.
00:44:36
Shauna (she/her)
It's going to be.
00:44:37
Ryan
Yeah.
00:44:37
Shauna (she/her)
It's going to be a great chance that we are going to do community and I'm very excited for that because I love a good team chant.
00:44:39
Ryan
Yeah. Yes.
00:44:44
Shauna (she/her)
ah Yeah, my hot to throw is going to be my Sin City team. It was already my Chicago team and I like I like Kyler.
00:44:48
Ryan
Yes. Yeah, all all the Cleveland homosexuals pulled out.
00:44:52
Shauna (she/her)
I I I borrowed it to I lent it to Kyler for this upcoming Stonewall season, so he asked.
00:44:56
Ryan
Yes. The ah Stonewall girls had a lot of, um, uh, uh, chapel room themed, uh,
00:44:58
Shauna (she/her)
He did ask my permission.
00:45:08
Ryan
uh, team names for Stonewall, both in kickball and dodgeball, including us.
00:45:10
Shauna (she/her)
Oh yeah.
00:45:13
Shauna (she/her)
We were we were good kick babe, which is a great name.
00:45:14
Ryan
Um, plan the it was, um, we had a ah tough season ending, but that was a good part of 2024 was

Concert Experiences and Music's Emotional Impact

00:45:24
Ryan
getting to play on a kickball team together again.
00:45:24
Shauna (she/her)
It was and we played really well, like our team was very like we we were very good and it is a shame that we did not do well the one week, but we did so well in all so many other weeks.
00:45:27
Ryan
yeah
00:45:34
Ryan
Yes.
00:45:36
Shauna (she/her)
So you know what?
00:45:36
Ryan
Yes.
00:45:37
Shauna (she/her)
I'm that's just sometimes.
00:45:38
Ryan
It was a great season.
00:45:40
Shauna (she/her)
It was a great season. I had a lot of fun with it. We had really read a really cool logo, full shirts.
00:45:43
Ryan
We did. um Oh, God, please don't get me started. to Please don't mention the fucking shirts. Shauna, you know I'm still hot over it, but um I was hot.
00:45:51
Shauna (she/her)
You were hot on your shirt. That's a great point. And we're just going to move right past that.
00:45:54
Ryan
ah Shut up. You're stupid. You're stupid. um So other things related to music.
00:45:57
Shauna (she/her)
Yeah.
00:46:02
Ryan
um uh eternal sunshine so um the last thing there's a couple of songs on there yes and i was saying it came out i listened to it the entire drive to michigan like i it was on repeat i took several nudes in the shady uh sex worker hotel that i stayed at
00:46:13
Shauna (she/her)
Ah, oh, all of that.
00:46:22
Ryan
unrelated to the fact that I was there for a kink drawing contest. um It was fully a hotel explicitly for sex workers. It was like right next to a strip club but and there were no there was two like Pillows that were like this thick, like they were, there there was plastic on the bed under the sheets.
00:46:43
Shauna (she/her)
Oh.
00:46:44
Ryan
It was, you were not encouraged to sleep there. I had arguably one of the worst nights of sleep of my life. I could not wait to get out of that fucking hotel.
00:46:51
Shauna (she/her)
Oh, God, I hate that is I stayed somewhere for a dodgeball that felt very similar, and it was like we were like where shit like we what like what discount place did you get like to say like like no everyone I got the I have the hotel covered for us all like I got I got it all booked and then we got there were like.
00:46:54
Ryan
It was awful.
00:46:59
Ryan
Yeah.
00:47:04
Ryan
Correct.
00:47:10
Ryan
Right. No, you didn't.
00:47:12
Shauna (she/her)
This is, hotel is a broad, like, um.
00:47:16
Ryan
Right. This is a, this is a, a rest stop. Uh, and no one's trying to rest. um But yeah, so Eternal Sunshine, just really, really great. um the al but the There's a couple of songs I wish I hated you. um I really still can't get through without tearing up, first of all, because she actually starts crying on the song, like you can hear where her voice catches. um And the whole thing is about like, I just... You did nothing wrong. I wish I could hate you like it would be so much easier if you treated me badly and Made me hate you but I don't and actually I don't want to it would just be easier Bitch the first time I listened to it. I was like Come on girl, how could you do this to me? How could you make and it's so beautiful and The way that her music has changed over the years, like it's crip it's got this like um sort of um lightness to it that, I don't know, I'll send it to you. I'm um obsessed with it. It's one of my favorite songs. um But my ah number one Spotify song was Yes And, and the rest was Cowboy Carter. um What a fun year to be a black country fan.
00:48:35
Ryan
like I liked country growing up. I like quite as it's kept, you know, I was raised by a bunch of white folks in the Southwest suburbs.
00:48:44
Shauna (she/her)
and
00:48:46
Ryan
Like kind we were not, ah you know, take your tractor to to school, but we were like, people had acres of land. Like there you, there was big spaces between houses.
00:48:59
Ryan
Like we were rural adjacent. um I believe we're actually like ex-serve.
00:49:02
Shauna (she/her)
I always like subrural is like the the term that I think of because that was very much where I was raised in as very like
00:49:04
Ryan
Yeah. Subrural. Isn't that isn't it technically um an X-herb where you're like external of a suburb?
00:49:14
Shauna (she/her)
I think so.
00:49:16
Ryan
I don't know, whatever, it doesn't matter.
00:49:17
Shauna (she/her)
Yeah, where it's, yeah, because it's the, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
00:49:17
Ryan
We both know what we're talking about.
00:49:20
Shauna (she/her)
And like, but that's where like, I never was big into country either. that are Like, like the closest I got was like Southern Rock, which is very, but like, they feel like there's like an element there.
00:49:24
Ryan
Mm-hmm.
00:49:28
Ryan
Sure. Mm-hmm.
00:49:30
Shauna (she/her)
But I mean, I, The two two of my favorite, I we saw some really, my my number one artist, Ashneko, I got to see her they i her, I think they might be them actually.
00:49:38
Ryan
Yes.
00:49:42
Shauna (she/her)
But either way, I got to see Ashneko in concert and concert, which was amazing, such a fun, just getting to see Chappel Rhone right before, when she was blowing up, right before she just blew up was such a great, like it was when I was like, it was when I knew that we were in
00:49:42
Ryan
Sure.
00:49:45
Ryan
Yes.
00:49:51
Ryan
yes yeah Yes.
00:49:58
Shauna (she/her)
Because I knew we were in a gay moment, so but when I realized we were in a moment, was but it was waiting outside the line and there was at the Nautica Pavilion.
00:50:02
Ryan
Yes.
00:50:08
Ryan
Nautica?
00:50:09
Shauna (she/her)
And it was just sea of pink and camo because we were the Midwest princess theme.
00:50:14
Ryan
Yes.
00:50:15
Shauna (she/her)
And so that was the, because there was a style guide and I love that each concert had a style.
00:50:18
Ryan
There was a style guide?
00:50:21
Shauna (she/her)
Yeah. She put out every, every like four or five concerts had like, would have one theme. There were like six themes in total. And so it could have been like my kink is karma, or it could have been pink pony club, or um one was like mermaidy, but we had Midwest princess, which was pink and camo and like.
00:50:32
Ryan
Sure. Sure. Of course.
00:50:40
Ryan
Yeah, it was definitely...
00:50:40
Shauna (she/her)
is why I have my favorite camo shorts. I didn't realize I looked good in camo because it was like, this is clear. And I was like, dang it.
00:50:46
Ryan
Yeah, camo is not for me.
00:50:47
Shauna (she/her)
I do. And it looks very good with ink.
00:50:49
Ryan
Turns out it is. um Yeah, the and then Orville Peck, right.
00:50:51
Shauna (she/her)
Yeah. But Orville Peck. Also, yeah because then I saw that in Dang to See a Gay Cowboy was wonderful.
00:50:58
Ryan
The...
00:50:58
Shauna (she/her)
And he was so delightful.
00:50:59
Ryan
Yes.
00:51:00
Shauna (she/her)
He was a really he's such a great singer. His band was wonderful. like It was just a really cool moment.
00:51:05
Ryan
Yes.
00:51:07
Ryan
when um I almost got to go see Orville Peck when I wasn't able to, um but I've never listened to like, I've listened to maybe two of his songs once, but um I've always liked country music, especially women country.
00:51:13
Shauna (she/her)
Mm hmm. Oh, OK.
00:51:20
Shauna (she/her)
Yeah.
00:51:21
Ryan
um
00:51:22
Shauna (she/her)
Mm hmm.
00:51:22
Ryan
I loved the girls in the 90s, Shania Twain, Faith Hill, Reba, like i I loved women country.
00:51:28
Shauna (she/her)
Oh.
00:51:32
Ryan
And so I carry early 2000s, but like I'm talking the mid 90s, let's go girls, bitch, Shania Twain's up that album.
00:51:33
Shauna (she/her)
Carrie Underwood, like I still had is such a. Yeah, OK, OK, OK.
00:51:46
Ryan
Please. Homosexual moment in history, i my all-girl friends that I had when I was younger, um they had a bunch of dresses, one of them, and they like did fashion shows.
00:52:00
Ryan
And I was the stage manager. And one of the fashion shows was to Shania Twain's Up.
00:52:05
Shauna (she/her)
Hmm.
00:52:06
Ryan
I believe that's the name of the album.
00:52:07
Shauna (she/her)
Hmm.
00:52:08
Ryan
And they just came out in different dresses to different shows.
00:52:11
Shauna (she/her)
God.
00:52:15
Ryan
um But yeah, so, you know, Beyonce once again changed the fucking game and made this incredible country album that it's so good.
00:52:26
Shauna (she/her)
really good
00:52:29
Ryan
It blends every genre and it makes me
00:52:30
Shauna (she/her)
so
00:52:35
Ryan
want to just like argue with country fans like i just want to i just want to sit down and like you know play uh fucking texas hold them you know or 16 care like i mean obviously those are singles but like any of those songs would be like so you're gonna say this isn't country you're gonna say levi's jeans isn't country why am i only thinking of like the super popular ones what the fuck is wrong with me um you're going to listen to any of these songs and say it's not country. You're out of your fucking mind and you know it's because she's a black woman. But what a great moment for ah for just progressive music and for black folks and for Beyonce and for Beyonce fans. It was a great, great moment for Beyonce fans. um A not so great moment has been the fucking accusations against Jay-Z, which
00:53:31
Ryan
We sort of said we would talk about, but I just...
00:53:33
Shauna (she/her)
Like I think we should let's because I think we should give that. time and space, because I don't think we should rush through it.
00:53:39
Ryan
Yeah, I need to hear more.
00:53:40
Shauna (she/her)
and but with But also, like we would be remiss if we didn't also bring up the fact that it's, yeah.
00:53:42
Ryan
Yeah, it's believed survivors. Yes, it's always believed survivors, period. And i will i there are always external contexts that makes me look at things that we all should critically analyze information, but with our right fucking brain and operating from the idea that people don't just make up sexual assault accusations.
00:53:51
Shauna (she/her)
Yeah.
00:54:08
Shauna (she/her)
Who?
00:54:13
Shauna (she/her)
Rain.
00:54:13
Ryan
So like, I believe that this person was assaulted because they said they were. and people, it's like, what, 4% of, you know, some super low percentage of of um sexual violence accusations are are made intentionally, inaccurately.
00:54:32
Ryan
But I don't think that this is one of these cases. I don't believe that people, you know, are motivated in that kind of way. So I do believe that this woman was assaulted, um a young girl at the time, but I also, I hope it wasn't Jay-Z.
00:54:43
Shauna (she/her)
Hmm. Oh.
00:54:49
Ryan
I really hope because, you know, a but lot of people have pointed to previous behavior, um, that, you know, was even all the way to like how old they were when they met.

Fandom, Representation, and Cultural Significance

00:55:00
Ryan
But again, that's a conversation that I'm willing to have about, you know, the power dynamics at play between these two people and her very overly involved family.
00:55:11
Ryan
Anyways, like it's yes.
00:55:12
Shauna (she/her)
No, but to be a fan is, to and the this is what we've talked about for so long, is to how have to deal with, because it is not just about any one person. It is about a pervasive culture and it often comes with power and the abuses that then there come from that.
00:55:23
Ryan
Yes, yes.
00:55:27
Shauna (she/her)
And to be a fan of anything is to know that the person who made it could potentially be terrible for any number of reasons.
00:55:35
Ryan
Great.
00:55:37
Shauna (she/her)
And how do we weigh that then as fans and as you know participants in culture? And again, that's like something that we have talked about consistently and are going to continue to talk about because you can't avoid, you can't head in the sand yet.
00:55:47
Ryan
Yes, one could say ad nauseam.
00:55:50
Shauna (she/her)
Yeah.
00:55:50
Ryan
Yeah, exactly. And we refuse to. um and And again, if if it is true about him, I also am a thoughtful enough person to realize that like that does not necessarily involve her in any way. And in fact, I am inclined to buck up and get even more defensive because um people will find any excuse to disrespect her and it's just and her talent and her hard work.
00:56:17
Ryan
um The last thing that I want to talk about more before we wrap up, um ah Wicked, which we did already talk about, was one of the other things that people mentioned as their ah top nerd things of the year.
00:56:28
Shauna (she/her)
and What a great experience and getting to see it and getting to see so many of everyone who really loves it and gets in and enjoy like, and I into find a love in it that I just truly didn't know was possible that for me for
00:56:33
Ryan
You already talked about, you know, we kind of already talked about the um the musicalness of it, but really, again, what a great experience.
00:56:54
Ryan
yeah
00:56:56
Shauna (she/her)
like musicals and now it makes me want to go deeper and find other ones which is going to make you know people like my girlfriend Kelly very happy as she's helping me plugging in the computer literally next to me because she's a sweetheart yeah I know yeah I know ignore ignore the hand that just appeared yeah
00:57:03
Ryan
but
00:57:12
Ryan
Behind the curtain. um Okay, so just other pop culture moments worth mentioning. um ah Echo was apparently released this year.
00:57:20
Shauna (she/her)
you don
00:57:23
Ryan
I fully forgot that that was this year.
00:57:25
Shauna (she/her)
well Well, oh god, I started watching it, but then just was like, I'm like, cause I, I remember I liked it from, I liked her from the Brian Michael Bendis Daredevil comics.
00:57:26
Ryan
Did you watch Echo?
00:57:32
Ryan
It didn't catch.
00:57:39
Ryan
Sure.
00:57:39
Shauna (she/her)
And that was where I was excited. I'm, I'm still excited about the character, but I realized it wasn't. says a lot of Marvel projects. Though I've been making my way through, I'm almost done with season one of Loki.
00:57:50
Ryan
Work.
00:57:50
Shauna (she/her)
I was like, oh, neat, that creature in Deadpool versus Wolverine, or Deadpool and Wolverine is from this.
00:57:54
Ryan
Yes. Yes.
00:57:57
Shauna (she/her)
I know we that now.
00:57:58
Ryan
Now you do.
00:57:58
Shauna (she/her)
Cool. Like, it is.
00:57:59
Ryan
That's a great episode too.
00:58:01
Shauna (she/her)
It's a really fun, like, Yeah, but I've been making, I've watched the Marvels, like, which was a great movie.
00:58:06
Ryan
Yes.
00:58:08
Shauna (she/her)
You know, I've been really enjoying, and that's absolute, gosh, you know, and that's where so many, you know, so many superheroes, so many female leds, so many queer leds, so many people of color led superhero and TV shows generally are getting axed.
00:58:09
Ryan
Deserves more respect.
00:58:25
Shauna (she/her)
And that's one of my least favorite moments of 2024.
00:58:26
Ryan
Yes.
00:58:28
Shauna (she/her)
But I think in not getting their flowers like them are like the marvel should have, because at the end of the day, there's just far too much of a willingness to cut those down.
00:58:33
Ryan
Yeah.
00:58:37
Ryan
Yeah. And the marbles also had, you know, it had, it was, I don't want to say doomed from the onset because I don't believe it was. I think it it really suffered from the, the, uh, the strike.
00:58:46
Shauna (she/her)
i
00:58:49
Ryan
Like it came out. It was released during like the strike. It got no promo.
00:58:55
Shauna (she/her)
when
00:58:57
Ryan
It, they weren't allowed to promo it the sag strike. It was the act. Yeah.
00:59:01
Shauna (she/her)
Oh, it was doomed from the start.
00:59:01
Ryan
Um,
00:59:03
Shauna (she/her)
ah Between that and but and the fact that it was the writer's strike and the fact that a certain population is going to be very vocal about how much they dislike it.
00:59:03
Ryan
Yes, it was also doomed from the start. then writers The strike, yeah.
00:59:15
Shauna (she/her)
because of what it is and who it stars because they didn't like Brie Larson going back to her first foray as Captain Marvel and so they were already going to be inherently harder on it regardless of what it could be the best movie ever and they would still be hard on it because it's not actually about the movie it's about their own prejudice that they bring to the situation.
00:59:17
Ryan
Exactly. Correct. Yep.
00:59:35
Ryan
Amen. And you know, it's led by a woman that they said that they didn't like. And then it was post-starred by a black woman and a brown girl and like a Southeast Asian brown girl.
00:59:43
Shauna (she/her)
Mm-hmm.
00:59:44
Ryan
So yeah, it was doomed and from the start in a lot of ways. um Other ah really important worthwhile mentions. Bummer that we didn't get to do X-Men 97 for this podcast because great, great nerd moments.
00:59:58
Shauna (she/her)
God, I...
00:59:59
Ryan
What a fucking joy.
01:00:01
Shauna (she/her)
And I think a real inspiration in a lot of ways for like think where really inspiring my love of kind of Marvel, like it really reignited that.
01:00:11
Shauna (she/her)
And like, I've always been a fan and I've always enjoyed like the MCU and all that, but it really kind of got like really encouraged me to go two feet in and like, and I've been, I so can't wait for more.
01:00:20
Ryan
Yeah.
01:00:23
Shauna (she/her)
I'm so, I, I love the X-Men and getting to see them done so well is such wonderful.
01:00:24
Ryan
Same.
01:00:30
Shauna (she/her)
I'm so excited.
01:00:31
Ryan
I think I'm gonna rewatch it over break, um like or when i'm when I'm taking these couple weeks off. um And I am really excited to rewatch it, but yeah, X-Men has always been my end. We had a whole episode about it, but, um you know, it's a shame that we didn't get to watch it in real time. So hopefully we do it for season two. The Brothers' Son was this year, also a phenomenal show um featuring, what is the,
01:01:01
Ryan
like critically acclaimed actor's woman, actor's name, um that plays Madame Morrible in Wicked. but
01:01:07
Shauna (she/her)
Oh, um, wait, no, no, I'm like.
01:01:11
Ryan
Yeah, but please don't say the wrong Asian woman. That's like, that's my fear.
01:01:14
Shauna (she/her)
Not absolutely not going to.
01:01:16
Ryan
Yeah.
01:01:16
Shauna (she/her)
Nope. That is like, nope.
01:01:17
Ryan
Madame Morrible movie.
01:01:25
Ryan
um Why is it so? Michelle Yeoh. Michelle Yeoh plays the the mothers of the brother's son in and it's just incredible. It's an awesome martial arts show.
01:01:37
Ryan
um If you haven't watched it, check it out. um I did watch Owl House per Shauna's recommendation and it is everything that she said it would be. It's all the best parts of Harry Potter without any of the awful transphobia and actually
01:01:51
Shauna (she/her)
actual queerness.
01:01:52
Ryan
Pro queer, pro trans, like pro brown. If you are looking for something to scratch that itch, Owl House is it. It's just cause again, if I'm assuming if you're listening to this podcast, you probably don't believe that cartoons are for kids, but like just because it's a cartoon doesn't mean it's not extremely relevant or like, uh,
01:02:16
Ryan
positive or good or whatever, like definitely check out Owl House. um And Mean Girls, the musical, the movie, the musical ah was really, really fun.
01:02:28
Ryan
And ah you're to the People's Joker and Chasing, Chasing Amy.
01:02:33
Shauna (she/her)
Yeah, great year for trip and I still and um I saw the TV glow which I still have not seen and Like, im but like a great year for trans media, like even when other moments like the moon girl episode and then Disney just today came out with the fact that they pulled a plot line slash character from one of their upcoming movies.
01:02:33
Ryan
You want to touch on them?
01:02:41
Ryan
Same.
01:02:57
Shauna (she/her)
Yeah, like I would have to look it up the specifics, but like they literally got a teenage trans girl to voice this character.
01:02:57
Ryan
What?
01:03:07
Shauna (she/her)
Like she just turned 18 now and like was giving representation and they're like, well, they pulled the like, we think parents should be the ones to introduce to these things.
01:03:15
Ryan
Get the fuck out of here, for what property?
01:03:15
Shauna (she/her)
because we are where gay people were 15 years ago, ah some upcoming movie.
01:03:19
Ryan
Right.
01:03:21
Shauna (she/her)
But that's ultimately where it is, is the same way that it was we don't talk about gay people.
01:03:24
Ryan
Yeah.
01:03:25
Shauna (she/her)
They want to make trans people on the outside.
01:03:27
Ryan
Yeah.
01:03:28
Shauna (she/her)
But you know what? We're not going anywhere and we are community. We are in your communities. We are people just living our lives. And we deserve to see each other in media just as much as you do, even if you don't like it.
01:03:40
Ryan
Which is a perfect segue I think to wrap it up and do the love off. um I, you know, you were just touching on it. It's been a very hard year for trans people. It's been a very hard year for Black people. It's just been, it's been a hard life for for for both of those identities. and um to find a relationship with a person who shares so many interests and then also has this sort of common human understanding of what it's like to live under the thumb of oppression and refuse to let it define you or take away what makes you happy and in fact to charge into it.
01:04:22
Ryan
um is a really, really, you know, beautiful, wonderful thing. And um I'm really grateful for how close that we've gotten this year and for you helping me bring like something that I've wanted to do for so long to life.
01:04:37
Ryan
um It is, ah one, you know in the in the larger sense, it's a reminder um to everyone that like it's a shared struggle. like If you don't see it in other people, then you don't get to see it for yourself. We're all fighting the same fucking battle. um But two, who cares about all of that? like Make things with people that you love because you make good things then. And I think the fact that we have so much fucking fun doing this um and have blossomed a whole relationship out of our shared nerd-dom.
01:05:12
Ryan
I'm just really grateful for it. And so I freaking love you, man. Well, lady, but...
01:05:17
Shauna (she/her)
I love you, too. Like, like go I know what you mean.
01:05:20
Ryan
Yeah. Gender-neutral Midwest stoner man.
01:05:21
Shauna (she/her)
I love you. Yeah, look, I I love a good Midwest dude and it is my like one thing that that is that like, you know, segue of the like, I will.
01:05:27
Ryan
Exactly.
01:05:30
Ryan
Our toxic masculine traits.
01:05:32
Shauna (she/her)
Yeah, right like, well, and it's the
01:05:33
Ryan
Everybody's a dude.
01:05:36
Shauna (she/her)
is every not every use of dude is gender neutral like you know do you fuck dudes is a gendered question but oh dude i know is a neutral interjection that is not calling you a dude but it is speaking to the like yeah
01:05:41
Ryan
Yes. Yes. Yes.
01:05:46
Ryan
Yes. Yes. Well done. Yes. Yeah. Yeah. So I love you.
01:05:57
Shauna (she/her)
That is my, personal that is always my like personal is like, and yes, but it depends. But also you're, well, if it personally bothers a person, that is also just as valid.
01:06:04
Ryan
Yes. I will not call you dude. Yes.
01:06:07
Shauna (she/her)
Right? Yeah. That is like, that is also valid too. Like both perspectives are valid as my perspective, but.
01:06:14
Ryan
Exactly, exactly.
01:06:15
Shauna (she/her)
Anyways, but either way, I completely agree. I've so appreciated getting to know you better and to get to see just how much that we, when we didn't even realize that we shared, that we ended up, that we share in so many different ways. It's just been wonderful and I'm so excited for to see that continued growth in 2025 and blossoming in both this output and also just in general as we explore all of these wonderful things together in this world.
01:06:44
Shauna (she/her)
So thank you and love and appreciate you too.
01:06:45
Ryan
Yes.
01:06:48
Ryan
So um tell your friends you love them. Tell your family that you choose. You love them.
01:06:53
Shauna (she/her)
It's true.
01:06:53
Ryan
Remember, um first of all, it's all made up. Do whatever the fuck you want to. Do literally whatever makes you happy as long as you're not hurting someone um and as long as it's not tacky.
01:07:04
Ryan
but asking
01:07:04
Shauna (she/her)
Or even if you are hurting them as long as it's consensual,
01:07:07
Ryan
Consensual, correct. Great point, great consideration.
01:07:09
Shauna (she/her)
Yeah.
01:07:10
Ryan
But yeah, this is a labor of love that's not so laborious, despite the fact that there are going to be, you know, I'm going to have to edit this and blah, blah, blah.
01:07:19
Shauna (she/her)
Splice multiple videos together, ignoring certain parts of like what?
01:07:21
Ryan
Yeah, exactly. That part is laborious, but thankfully I'm off for two weeks starting on Monday.
01:07:25
Shauna (she/her)
No.
01:07:27
Ryan
um But thank you to the people that have been listening and who have been asking about it and um sharing our stuff.
01:07:29
Shauna (she/her)
and
01:07:34
Ryan
You know, it's a few, it's it's proud, but I think that we have created something wonderful. And even if it's just for us, who fucking cares? But, you know, Megan Thee Stallion, if you want to come on, or we're open to it.
01:07:48
Ryan
Okay, oh, we'll be picking back up in 2025. The reason we're doing a very special episode is because it's right around the holidays and trying to schedule with another guest um is always tougher. It's tough enough for two people, um but we will be picking back up at the top of 2025 in our continued theme of what's your fantasy. I believe we are in a good space to say that they will be about Lord of the Rings.
01:08:14
Ryan
And then ah we will be pivoting into a different type of fantasy with either Fifty Shades or the Secretary to be determined. But ah stay tuned.
01:08:25
Ryan
Can't wait to share that stuff with you all. Keep it nerdy. Be nice to each other. Bye!
01:08:30
Shauna (she/her)
true.
