Ryan : Welcome to Real Hot Nerd Shit, a pop culture podcast where real hot nerds talk about real nerd shit. I'm your host, Ryan.

Shauna (she/her): And I'm your host, Shauna.

Ryan : And on this episode of Real Hot Nerd Shit, we'll be talking about Ironheart episodes four through six, the second half of the show, which is now complete, and we've got lots to say.

Shauna (she/her): He's back, just like we thought. I called it from way back when. I knew WandaVision happened. I was like, it would lead little did we know several years later, this would be when it would finally happen.

Ryan : Here we are, which is not the person that you're introing. That's just a reference to the other conversation because it does sound like.

Shauna (she/her): Oh, yeah, no, that's just our, that's the Ironheart, actually.

Ryan W: but

Shauna (she/her): And no, no, no, actually, this was, this, our guest for today was actually written in the book from Agatha all along.

Ryan W: yeah

Ryan : Exactly.

Shauna (she/her): So, you know, yeah.

Ryan W: I'm part of the Darkhold, actually.

Ryan : Yeah. Welcome. um So ah you are a nerd.

Shauna (she/her): Thank you.

Ryan : I know that. um Which was why I was so excited to be able to um bring you on and, um you know, like hear your take and and also to just bring my two worlds together because um ryan is the stand-in for other ryan who is still you know for the second ryan um but like in a totally different and great way which includes and i'm so sorry before i ask you this first intro question um i have to tell you that uh unsurprisingly i got

Shauna (she/her): That's it.

Ryan : a little drunk at the beach on Saturday. And I was walking around holding the fucking boom box playing Cynthia Erivo's Defying Gravity in the lake.

Shauna (she/her): ah

Ryan : And then,

Ryan W: leading Leading the charge, leading the sing-along.

Ryan W: With about, i don't know, five, six other people in the water.

Ryan : and then, yeah, it was just like, it was just the little tiny circle of us. And I was having such a good time. And, uh, I don't know, man.

Ryan : i was... have I have started getting more comfortable with some of the people that we hang out, and so that is what's come...

Ryan W: sure have.

Ryan : Which, okay, so the thing that I was going to tell you... I've been meaning to tell um you and Uxie and Ryan this, Shauna, but... um You know, sometimes when I talk, I get really into it, and I love a captive audience.

Shauna (she/her): Really? on, I've never heard this before about you.

Ryan : So...

Shauna (she/her): Tell me more, please.

Ryan : So it was me talking to like three or four like of um my new friends that Ryan has introduced me to. And Ryan was not there. he was just, he was in the water and he comes up as I'm mid spiel and he goes, oh God, what are you lore dumping about now?

Ryan W: I just like caught the general vibe and like I've known Ryan long enough to like understand like what certain mannerisms mean.

Ryan : Didn't hear a word I was saying.

Ryan W: I'm like, oh, oh okay, they are they were locked in. Let's let's see see see what's going on here.

Ryan : clocked locked in clocked in yep

Shauna (she/her): like Look, I've absolutely followed through on the conversation options in many in RPG. You know what? I understand how this goes.

Ryan W: Yes, of course.

Shauna (she/her): Some of them are like, I do keep clicking forward. I want to know.

Ryan W: Big, big match effect.

Shauna (she/her): Yeah. Where does this where does this conversation tree lead to?

Ryan W: Right, exactly.

Shauna (she/her): Please.

Ryan : what great um what a great segue into my question to Ryan. So um I got introduced to introduce to a lot of these homosexuals ah via homosexual activities, um which does include Marvel Rivals.

Ryan : So um I was added to this big group chat of Rivals gamers. um So Ryan, what are you a If a nerd is ah someone who is weirdly knowledgeable and passionate about something, but people kind of think it's uncool or, you know, it takes its time for people to see how cool it is, um what are you a nerd about?

Ryan W: kind of a big question. um So I think my first fandom ah had to have been ah X-Men from the 97 TV show, the original one.

Ryan W: Of course, like you know it's it's it's it's a big time for the Mewties.

Ryan : Yes.

Ryan W: you know There's a resurgence of 97. We're talking about X-Men and coming in the the MCU. We're talking about ah certain certain cosmic forces being in rivals now. like I mean, i don't think i don't think the hype train has ever stopped for X-Men.

Ryan W: And like I wear this Krakoan X shirt in Pride today.

Ryan : Yes, yes.

Ryan W: So that was my first one. But you know my I think my my nerddom also like comes from my parents. My dad was more sci-fi. My mom was more like horror. um And so like I have kind of like blended into two of those.

Ryan : I didn't know you were a horror

Ryan W: Yeah, I mean, like, my mom was really into Buffy. think Hellraiser is one of her favorite movies. Like, my mom is very unassuming, but, like, she likes, like, the gore.

Ryan : Shauna.

Ryan W: It's very interesting.

Ryan : Shauna's making her kid a ah stone cold, like dyed in the wool nerd. Like their house has enough representation from nearly every nerd genre and flavor that that kid's going to be

Shauna (she/her): Absolutely.

Ryan : That kid's going cool.

Ryan W: Yeah.

Shauna (she/her): oh yeah, like we we want to make sure he's very well-rounded. Everything from musicals to superheroes. We actually, oh my gosh, all like all sports thrown in. Just a little bit of everything.

Ryan W: Right, yeah.

Ryan : Yeah.

Shauna (she/her): want to make sure.

Ryan : And they um yourre your kiddo just ah beat Breath of the Wild. And they're under 10.

Shauna (she/her): He did.

Ryan W: That's further than I have.

Shauna (she/her): Yeah, yeah. Oh, yeah, well, like, right? That's like is very impressed. Like the one day, like, you know, he tends to get he got up early and was like playing and was like, i beat three of the bosses this morning.

Shauna (she/her): i was like, oh, my God, I love this. Like he was.

Ryan : this morning

Shauna (she/her): Yeah, like because he had gotten through all of the dungeons and left the bosses for the end.

Ryan W: Interesting.

Shauna (she/her): And like just like, yeah, it was it was a very like, there's like, all right, I've done the puzzle part.

Ryan : ah

Ryan W: I'm savoring it. thank

Shauna (she/her): Now I'm going to go get stronger to fight the fight.

Ryan W: Interesting. Huh.

Ryan : What a smart, smart kid.

Ryan W: That's unique approach.

Shauna (she/her): Yeah.

Ryan W: Oh,

Shauna (she/her): Yeah. so that was a big he's been really into video games like loves like um I love passing on my love of Zelda to him. It makes me so happy.

Ryan : Yeah. um Which reminds me, so you're also a gamer, Ryan.

Ryan W: so yeah.

Ryan : What's been your experience with... gaming so we play rivals but

Ryan W: We play Rivals. Right now I'm currently playing, like, i don't know, I'll get into like some weird like depressive funks and I'm like, you know what would fix me? and a Japanese RPG.

Ryan W: And then like I never end up finish finishing it because like I will come out of my depression and I'll just be like, oh, this is more, that i committed to I committed to a lot more than I was willing to actually do.

Ryan : i'm gonna leave the house now right

Ryan W: And I'm better now. so So right now um I'm playing Triangle Strategy for the Switch. It's like a tactics game. I am not strategic at all, but like I'm fumbling my way through it.

Shauna (she/her): Mm-hmm.

Ryan W: um ah Playing Rivals, of course. I'm playing i'm still playing Claire Obscure, the sad French game that everybody's gagging about.

Ryan : yeah yes

Ryan W: Definitely going to Game of the Year. I'm very excited. um Yeah, I'm trying to play less video games in the summer because like I live in like a really nice place by the beach, and like I didn't move to Chicago to like stay inside and play video games all day.

Ryan : play video games yeah yeah that's for that's for um that's for winter and depressive episodes don't forget about the depressive episodes

Ryan W: So that's for the winter.

Shauna (she/her): That's fair.

Ryan W: And depressive episodes, correct? Yes, yes.

Ryan : um so are there any things um well guess before we move on to uh if there's anything else that you are nerdy about that's not like nerd content so like you know uh our friend our other Ryan is like super nerdy about um Billboard Top 100 like he loves that stuff and my other question is who are your rivals mains

Ryan W: no

Ryan W: Rivals mains, I probably have the most hours on Magneto and Emma. um

Shauna (she/her): Hmm.

Ryan : Divas. Sure.

Ryan W: So definitely keeping with my ex motif. um I think Cloak and Dagger are a close third. um And in terms of like other nerd stuff,

Ryan W: i don't know i um I really like comic books, which i I guess is like the source material of what we're talking about. um i was I was a lot more into comics when I was right was in a working position where I was like able to read them a lot of the day.

Ryan : sir

Shauna (she/her): Okay.

Ryan W: but like now, i you know, I want to be up and about and do my thing. But like there it's the thing about comics is that like it's kind of like TV, right? Like you can always come back to it. Like there's ah there's a huge deposit of that information that's rarely accessible.

Ryan : Yeah.

Ryan W: Like And there's that cute comic shop in Andersonville that we've, have you been to that one?

Ryan : The black owned one? Wait, no, not that one.

Ryan W: Ah, no, that one.

Ryan : ah The black owned one was where I went on my birthday. I don't remember the name of it, but it's near, it's in Rogers Park.

Ryan W: Okay. Okay, okay, we'll shop around.

Ryan : I think I might've gone to the one in Andersonville.

Ryan W: It's like golden stuff.

Ryan : Um,

Ryan : ah So just to catch the world up because I don't think we've talked about our mains in a while. Who are your mains, Shauna?

Shauna (she/her): So my means right now, I've been really, like, if I'm playing damage, it's Storm.

Ryan : She fucks it up.

Shauna (she/her): She's been my go-to, like, I love it.

Ryan : She's so good at Storm.

Shauna (she/her): It's absolutely my favorite, and again, with the X-Men theme.

Ryan W: of support and...

Shauna (she/her): And same, also with Magic.

Ryan : Mm-hmm.

Shauna (she/her): She's my, like, dive character. love, like, going in with the sword, disrupting. For Tank, it's definitely, Emma's by far been, like, ever since she debuted, she's been my go-to. Like, I'm already at Centurion with her.

Shauna (she/her): I'm, like, Oh yeah, like I'm like, well, I really like playing with She's so much fun.

Ryan : Yeah, right, right.

Shauna (she/her): Yeah.

Ryan W: I'm struggling to get to like, out of Captain.

Shauna (she/her): And then...

Shauna (she/her): See, that, and then Cloak and Dagger has been, like, by far my go-to main, because I played a lot of Overwatch back in the day, and so that was where, ah so I feel like she feels very, like they feel like more Moira, and so I feel like the switch between damage and heals was, like, a very easy, like, I'm like, oh, I got this.

Ryan W: Me too, yeah.

Ryan W: Yeah.

Ryan W: Yes.

Shauna (she/her): Like, once I figured it out, I got very good at it, and so, yeah.

Ryan W: I get this concept, yes.

Shauna (she/her): Yeah.

Ryan : I definitely, um I am also a cloak and dagger main. um But that's because I'm just, I'm one of the people that people make fun of that. Like, you just do it because it's a hitscan and like, you don't have to try. Yeah, I know.

Ryan : That's, it's the only way I'll still have fun. Otherwise I'll just get frustrated.

Ryan W: Right. Yeah, exactly.

Ryan : I try hard characters and I get, I'm bad at them.

Ryan W: Right.

Ryan : um But yeah.

Ryan W: I'm not in this to be good. I'm in this to have fun.

Ryan : Exactly. I want us to win. I did um put in a little solo time in practice versus AI as Storm. I'm trying to, like, I can't talk shit about her being my favorite and then not be good at her. Why am I not fucking Lord on Storm?

Ryan : Like, because then when Phoenix comes out and her, her kit. Okay. So perfect segue into the banter.

Shauna (she/her): Yeah, I am.

Ryan : um Phoenix is coming to rivals as well as ah um Blade. And um I'm so fucking hyped for Phoenix. i love that she's distance. I love that she seems like she's got an escape mechanism.

Ryan : um She's not a flyer, which it would have made a lot of sense to make her a flyer because she's she literally floats pretty much everywhere she goes. um But I want to get really good at her and I can't just be good at her. I have to be good at Storm 2.

Ryan : Like it's not right.

Shauna (she/her): Emma.

Ryan : It's just not right. So I'm Sean or Ryan, what are your thoughts on on Phoenix coming? Not that they're not any different than mine.

Ryan W: um I like, um first I want to talk about the design. I love how like all of the the Rivals ladies are like significantly thicker than like their resource material.

Ryan : Mm-hmm.

Ryan : Yeah.

Ryan W: Like Emma is just like, like she's built like a tank. Yeah.

Shauna (she/her): have a

Ryan : Like, ah everyone loves Thick Emma. Just universally, everyone was like, upgrade.

Ryan W: yeah

Shauna (she/her): Yeah, it's going to be one of those decisions that you look back 10 years from now and you'll be like, oh my gosh, why Emma has always been this way.

Ryan : Upgrade.

Shauna (she/her): this is This is just now her design from here on out.

Ryan W: Yeah.

Ryan : Right.

Ryan : When they cast um Megan Thee Stallion as em Emma Frost in the upcoming X-Men movies, which I fully feel like she would take, that would be...

Shauna (she/her): That is absolutely my belief.

Shauna (she/her): Right.

Ryan : Because she has that um alter alter ego Tina Snow, who has this like platinum blonde bob.

Shauna (she/her): o

Ryan : She's remarkable. um Yeah, Thought, sorry, and we were talking about Phoenix.

Ryan W: um

Ryan : She's cunty.

Ryan W: Yeah, like i love the i love the design of her outfit. I think it's curious that she has like the like floating embodiment of the phoenix right next to her. Yes, yes, Ryan.

Ryan : Shauna, have you put Thought into this yet?

Shauna (she/her): So I don't love it. Like, it's the only thing I don't like is the floating behind.

Ryan : Okay.

Shauna (she/her): Like, I think it's a little distracting.

Ryan W: Yeah.

Shauna (she/her): Like, it's just, it it's not, it feels like it's, it's like a look like a pet and not like a, like cosmic entity, like aura attached to her.

Ryan W: right.

Shauna (she/her): And so that's where I'm like, it's not my favorite, but like, I'm sure I'll get used to it. And like, that's just like my first thought, like,

Ryan W: like Yeah, because Cloak and Dagger, who are like actually like attached to each other, like you don't see like the opposite one like floating around the other one.

Ryan : right great point great point um yeah i low-key i didn't care either way um until i was thinking about it earlier and um it's only been today what am i talking about it's been like four hours since i saw this like i had some deep revelation but perhaps i just had the headspace to be able to think about it for real i think it's some nerds that were in fucking dev that were like well technically she's not the phoenix but now but like also now she is the phoenix like it has been confirmed that the phoenix is just part and like it is part of her she is phoenix phoenix is her um

Ryan W: Right.

Ryan W: Right. She's had the name in the comics.

Ryan : Yes, like it's it's it's legit now.

Shauna (she/her): Yeah.

Ryan : It's not what it used to be. So it's no longer this cosmic entity that took over her. It is a part of her.

Ryan W: in

Ryan : i feel like there's probably a cooler way to show that. Like what if her skin was just constantly burning? like

Ryan W: Sure.

Ryan : eat ah But you know i'm i so i didn't have a negative response to it. I'm just really excited to see her kit like in action. I want to play it.

Shauna (she/her): and

Ryan : We have like nine more days, which is annoying, but...

Ryan W: Yeah, it looks like she's good to dam like at at crowd control, there's a lot of like AOE, she's got that, like I love a good laser, so that's like definitely an anti-flyer thing.

Ryan : Mm-hmm.

Shauna (she/her): Mm-hmm.

Ryan : Yeah.

Ryan W: And then she just, like I don't know, headbutts you as the Phoenix for her ult, and I think that's really cool.

Ryan : Right. I do not, like, all you see is just fire take up the screen. Was that, that like,

Ryan W: It's like, I think it's like a POV. Like she just like turns to the Phoenix.

Ryan : yeah.

Ryan W: You can see her like beak, I don't know. And then like, she just like dive bombs.

Ryan : Right, right. right All I know is, um, I need to know that some homosexuals were involved in the writing of the voice lines because i need to hear sisterhood between Jean and Storm and I need to hear Emma and Jean just like fucking...

Ryan W: A verbal telekinetic slap down.

Shauna (she/her): Look, all I'm saying is if the line between um suus so Sue and Emma that like, oh, I love that we're both mothers and you're like, we both may be moms, but you are not mother.

Ryan : the

Shauna (she/her): And I'm like, if that line exists, then I have a feeling that there's at least one homosexual with the voice.

Ryan : Yeah.

Ryan W: ah

Ryan W: I never heard that one. oh wow.

Shauna (she/her): It's like, it's one of my absolute favorites.

Ryan : Have you not heard that voice line yet?

Ryan : Oh, it's so funny. She calls it. She but she just calls herself mother.

Shauna (she/her): Like,

Ryan W: Wow, okay.

Shauna (she/her): Oh yeah, like, Sue's like being like all like, oh my gosh, we're the same. And then Emma is just like, yes, but no. Thank you for seeing me, however.

Ryan : Right.

Ryan W: Oh, yeah.

Ryan : Right, right. um Yeah, I want to hear. I want to hear what she says when either of them KO each other. Like I want, I want it.

Ryan W: oh yeah

Ryan : And it needs to be messy. There can, I know they're like cool now or whatever. um But like, you know, I want Wolverine to be, I want comic accurate voice lines.

Ryan : Like Wolverine needs to be fucking super horny for Jean Grey. And she needs to be just kind of whatever about him.

Ryan W: Right.

Ryan : um Very, they do.

Ryan W: There needs to be, like, a longing.

Shauna (she/her): Well, they have a team up.

Ryan W: and

Ryan : Yeah.

Ryan W: They do. Wolverine just gets hot.

Ryan : Right, exactly. He just walks around with like a fucking giant heart on. they gave They gave Venom twerking. Why can't he get a little chub?

Ryan W: yeah

Ryan : Why can't Wolverine get a little chub when he talks to Gene?

Ryan W: Right. Be brave, devs.

Shauna (she/her): Overing kind of is a little... anyways.

Ryan W: yeah

Ryan : Yeah, it's true. One of those memes that's like someone just trying to go about their day and then it's like the person screaming like, Wolverine could technically never be circumcised.

Ryan W: Yeah, of course.

Shauna (she/her): his canonic ass, like...

Ryan : Intrusive thoughts. Yeah, right, right. um So other exciting news. Sarah Michelle Gellar is getting, was inducted into the hall Hollywood Walk of fame

Ryan W: mother.

Ryan : ah She, speaking of mother, exactly. um so well deserved. i you know, Buffy did not get its appropriate recognition when it was on the air. But like, yeah, give give this girl her flowers for her hard fucking work, man.

Shauna (she/her): And like Buffy, the show died she got her flowers, and now she's coming back again.

Ryan : right t we love it

Ryan W: Very excited for that. i actually I actually watched like Buffy in its entirety for the first time in preparation for this. I think I watched like the finale.

Shauna (she/her): this For being on our podcast?

Ryan W: like

Shauna (she/her): Oh my gosh, you didn't have to.

Ryan W: Well, that and in preparation for the reboot.

Shauna (she/her): Thank you.

Ryan W: um And you know it's i even i was I was even introducing Ryan to somebody who I had connected with like the day before about but Buffy. I like literally like like put them together and i was just like,

Ryan W: okay what's your favorite book episode? Then I ran away. so

Ryan : Yeah, it was so fucking...

Ryan W: ah Like I dropped a bomb.

Ryan : canno yeah And it worked. We had a nice little conversation for a minute.

Ryan W: Yeah. I mean, like that show like holds up but still so well. I mean, it's, I love a mystical child soldier coming of age story.

Ryan W: It's pretty much like my favorite medium.

Ryan : Yes.

Ryan : Agree. which you know is sort of related to, ah so SMG's getting her flowers, Cleveland is getting a WNBA team. Shauna, take it away.

Shauna (she/her): Yeah, so it was just announced this Monday that Cleveland is one of three upcoming expansion teams, and the first that's going to get one in 2028, along with Detroit and Philadelphia.

Shauna (she/her): And so if you know, Cleveland actually previously had a WNBA team called the Rockers.

Ryan W: OK.

Shauna (she/her): They were one of the inaugural franchises, as was the Detroit Shock.

Ryan : good.

Shauna (she/her): which I didn't realize until like literally this week that the shock was a car reference, not unlike Pistons. And I was like, oh, of course it is. But I just did not put it together in any way, shape or form.

Ryan : Detroit.

Shauna (she/her): So just fun fact.

Ryan : That's Motor City, right?

Shauna (she/her): That is the one in the same. Yeah.

Ryan : Got right, right,

Ryan W: okay

Shauna (she/her): yeah And so, but yeah, Cleveland's getting a team in 2028, which is really exciting. Like is a little far, but not that far. Like it's just far enough that like it feels imminent.

Ryan : right. Right.

Ryan : Yeah.

Shauna (she/her): So we're very excited here.

Ryan W: The height can appropriately build.

Shauna (she/her): Oh yeah, like we we just got a...

Ryan : Yes.

Shauna (she/her): um The first women's sports bar just opened here in Cleveland. So like like where're like it's everything's building really like great on that front.

Ryan : Yeah.

Shauna (she/her): And we even drew the ire of one of, I think, the league villains at the moment, Sophie Cunningham.

Ryan : Yeah.

Shauna (she/her): So if you're not aware, Sophie Cunningham plays for the Indiana Fever alongside Caitlin Clark. And ah she is this like white blonde lady in just...

Shauna (she/her): Every way.

Ryan : yeah

Shauna (she/her): And like she is like that white blonde lady. And like literally wore a shirt that said Trey Leshes on it. for With like her and two other white women on the team. Like yes that's the one.

Shauna (she/her): Yeah whatever.

Ryan W: Yeah.

Shauna (she/her): Yes.

Shauna (she/her): I was like yes. Yeah. And so I was like but like literally she got a sponsorship deal with Ring. After like protecting Caitlin Clark. Yeah, like, no, she is like, she is absolutely courting very specific kind of fan, as Kaitlin Clark has if for the Indiana Fever.

Ryan W: Uh.

Ryan : Gross.

Ryan W: Mm.

Shauna (she/her): And with that being said, when it was announced that these were the teams, she went on this, like, i don't know why, nobody's going to want to go to Detroit or, and she said Cincinnati, but she meant to say Cleveland, she just couldn't even get her insult right.

Ryan : Yeah.

Shauna (she/her): So she's like, nobody goes to Detroit or Cleveland, or no, who'd want to go there?

Ryan : Right.

Shauna (she/her): right People would want to go to Nashville or Kansas City. or Miami. And I was like, Hey, you play for Indiana. And the look, I get that Cleveland is not Chicago, but Indiana is not Cleveland, Indianapolis.

Ryan : Correct. Correct.

Shauna (she/her): Like, let's not, let's not ignore that.

Ryan : don yeah Don't, yeah, don't kid yourself, girl.

Shauna (she/her): But also like, she knows who our target audience is here because I'm, so I'm sorry, like saying that, you know, two cities where

Ryan : segwaying into today's topic, which is the final three episodes Ironheart. But before we do that, um you you talked a little bit about it earlier um with your relationship to X-Men.

Ryan : um But what's your origin story with with Marvel? like what you know You said your dad was interested in sci-fi. um how did How did Marvel come about? And did you have any knowledge about Ironheart before the show?

Ryan W: um I was blessed enough to have been a child during the great run of like the first round of Marvel TV shows. We're talking we're talking X-Men, we're talking Spider-Man, we're talking Fantastic Four, maybe to lesser extent.

Ryan : Spider-Man. Yeah.

Ryan W: But like, i like it was just it was just a great time to be a child and just absorbed into all these stories.

Ryan : Sure.

Ryan W: And Wouldn't you know it, I really latched on to the the story about the the really heavy-handed allegory about like oppression and you know like rising up above that and finding community. Wow.

Ryan W: I don't know much about like the comic run of that. But I think it's interesting that like you know how the MCU has kind of incorporated her in I think, like putting her in Wakanda Forever and kind of having her be, but the the plot point was really interesting.

Ryan : um Okay, so ah yeah, so Ironheart not in your bag. this was This was first, other than Wakanda Forever, this was first connection to her.

Ryan : Okay, we episode four starts with a flashback of John and Parker robbing someone. We don't really get a sense of who it is, but we have this moment where you know Parker is kind of stopped mid-heist by a security guard and we see a gunshot and then um, John shows up and they have this moment where John is like, ah you you find me after, like, we have to split up.

Ryan : Um, and Parker says, you know, how am I going find you? And he says, I'm always near. And they really make it this whole point that like, John was really important to Parker. And it flashes forward to, um, the gang and the funeral or whatever it was. Like they just pick up at the, the pizza shop. That's the front for their,

Ryan : um hideout and it becomes uh pretty clear that uh parker knows that riri did it so that picks us up from episode three last week um no no

Shauna (she/her): And she didn't really do a big job of trying to hide it, let's be honest here. She was very, like, she didn't even, like, try and fake it, like...

Ryan : yeah wait say it again

Ryan W: I mean, she shook, right?

Shauna (she/her): She... Yeah. She was...

Ryan W: Oh, I'm just saying, though, like, she was shook about the whole thing, right? Like, she she didn't she didn't want to she didn't want to fight that man.

Ryan : And so she's like, I can't figure this shit out. And it's trying to get ahold of Joe, of course, who is not, why would he pick up for you, girl? You know, that he, like, you left his bio mesh in the fucking bio dome.

Ryan : And so she goes over to Joe's house and we see that it is a crime scene. And we learned that he has been arrested. His super annoying white neighbor, who they really stylized as a super annoying white lady neighbor.

Ryan : she would She's definite.

Ryan W: I think it was interesting that she is the only white woman in the cast. I'm pretty sure.

Ryan : Oh my God, that's true. ah She really is.

Shauna (she/her): hilarious

Ryan : And what's, what's the, she's definitely rooting for, um, Trace LeChase in the WNBA, if she even knows of the best.

Shauna (she/her): yes she absolutely is she's a big big galen clart fan big fan

Ryan : Big Caitlin, big Caitlin Clark fan. And that would be the first thing she brings up to a black person. She'd be like, Oh, you know, I love the WNBA.

Ryan W: I love that. di

Ryan : I'm huge Caitlin Clark fan. Um, so, uh, it kind of starts to bubble up the crew starts to put together ah that it's super weird that the bio mesh was where found where john died and then riri shows back up to the spot and parker pretty much flat out tells her that he knows she outsourced help um so he doesn't say i know you killed john but he says i know you you

Ryan : like we're working with someone to to accomplish the shit that you were supposed to and it's on it's pretty much on from there between the two of them

Ryan W: right because like i mean i think i think that was definitely like a way to like like make her feel even worse just to be like oh yeah i know that you were connected and like you know this dude's arrested now and it's your fault

Ryan : yes yeah yeah um and we do They kind of drag Ezekiel Stane. Joe McGillicuddy is no more publicly. He cannot exist anymore, um which is something that will come up later because ah Joe McGillicuddy went to prison and then everyone finds out that Ezekiel Stane is alive.

Ryan : And again, I don't really remember the Iron Man movies, but apparently Obadiah Stane in the public eye was well revered, um even though we know he was a jackass.

Shauna (she/her): Thank you.

Ryan W: Yeah.

Ryan W: Yeah, because I mean, like, I think in the original Iron Man, like, Tony had to, like, kill him, or he, I think he died in, like, the arc reactor accident, but he was like, ugh, rather than, like, this tank might stock, like, let's just say he died a hero.

Ryan : Right.

Ryan : Yeah. Right. Oh, so i see, I would not have remembered that. I don't remember the Iron Man movies.

Ryan W: Mm-hmm.

Ryan : So after that, um Riri goes to visit John in prison and he is not super stoked about um the fact that he is in prison.

Ryan : He is really super pissed. He has no compassion for her and he reads her for filth.

Ryan W: Mm-hmm.

Ryan : He like, he's like, Zeke Stain really sells it.

Ryan W: Mm-hmm.

Ryan : He is absolutely um going for it. And ah he's definitely, it's clear they are setting up that he's coming up, he's going to come for her.

Ryan : Like, it kind of sets us up for what happens later.

Ryan : um So Riri starts to freak out, ah realizing that Parker definitely knows that she killed John and Zeke is ah very, very upset with her.

Ryan : So she gives her mom and x Xavier these like little watches um that we do get to see activate at a later point in the episode.

Ryan : um And it basically like bubbles the the person like Hulk's um gamma bubble, gamma shield.

Shauna (she/her): Thank you.

Ryan : um in rivals where you know you're just like temporarily encased in it um and like riri wasn't sleeping she was sleeping in her suit and so when she hears her mom get bubbled because it was activated by what the sound of gunfire yes on tv um she like breaks down the door and her mom was like yo what the fuck is going on and so um eventually

Ryan W: TV. Yeah.

Ryan W: but tv yeah

Ryan : um she starts to let it all out to her mom, um, that she's, she needs help. Um, what are, know we're kind of ran through that little bit, but, um, any thoughts or notes from, from that chunk of it?

Ryan W: I think it was just really interesting how Riri's mental state throughout like this and this entire show. I think it was very kind. I think it was very understanding of like, of course she's paranoid, right? like Her best friend was gunned down. like her her Her best friend and and her stepdad were gunned down in front of her, right? So like I think...

Ryan W: In some ways, it's very kind of Tony Stark-esque, right? Like, I want to put a suit of armor around the world, right?

Ryan : Mm-hmm.

Ryan W: Like, I need to protect, it's very anime, need to protect everybody, right? um And so, you know, she she wants to, like, that's ultimately why she she's building the suit, right?

Ryan W: She says throughout throughout, like, I do it because I can, but it's like, I i have this all this regret and this survivor's guilt that I need to, like, mitigate.

Ryan : Yeah. Great point.

Shauna (she/her): And like she has a lot of PTSD, like she's constantly having anxiety attacks and panic attacks.

Ryan W: Yeah.

Shauna (she/her): She literally gave her ai panic attacks because they're such a part of her.

Ryan W: but Right.

Ryan : Right.

Shauna (she/her): Like, I think that says something about where she's not in a great headspace in the best of times, let alone as everything's unraveling and she's struggling.

Ryan : Right. Yeah,

Ryan : it's

Shauna (she/her): She's hurting people around her that she's not meaning to.

Ryan W: Mm-hmm.

Shauna (she/her): She's trying to do, like you said, protect everyone, you know, look out for all of her family and is just not doing a great job of it Her balance is just poor and she's only pushing away the people that love her.

Ryan W: Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm.

Ryan : Yeah, and as we're talking through the episodes, it actually is kind of changing how I'm feeling about the end. um Because I do, like, we have to contextualize.

Ryan : This is, like, over the course of a few days, maybe. Like, she's, like, having these suit upgrades, like, done in a day. So what, to me, I'm always like, what the fuck? How long has she been working on this?

Shauna (she/her): So...

Ryan : Oh, one day? She's been working on it for one day? um but it makes some of the things that happen later where it's like very impulsive um where it's like okay i actually can kind of understand as a person who has like gone through you know a series of events where you're just like fucking hell i can't take this shit like it's just one kick in the nuts after the next and then you see ah possible

Ryan : end of the tunnel and so you're just like fuck it i gotta go i'm just gonna try to so i'm this is i need to do this thing i have to take care of it only for it to definitely be a train and not the end of the tunnel which influences i think which you know is is later um but i really ah liked that riri finally opens up to her mom um One of the other things, we haven't talked much about how endearing Natalie is just like throughout the episode.

Ryan : ah But when her and Riri are on the porch installing security cameras, because again, Riri is losing her mind. um Natalie, like virtual Natalie, AI Natalie is shaking ass.

Ryan : She is throwing ass.

Ryan W: Right.

Ryan : Like it is incredible. yeah. so um We do also learn that Riri hasn't had her first kiss. um When she tells Natalie that she went to go give Xavier that watch, um we learned that she hasn't had her first kiss.

Ryan : She's like in her mid twenties. Like that's, you know, I think that says a lot about her.

Shauna (she/her): No, no, she's only, she's like late teens, like she's like 18, 19, like to I thought.

Ryan : oh right. I think, I think they were showing her.

Ryan W: college age.

Ryan : Yeah, definitely. Like mid twenties, I should like early twenties at most. Like, I think they definitely showed her

Shauna (she/her): yeah like

Ryan W: Well, yeah, because, OK, because, right, because they because they said in the first episode that like she's been at MIT for longer than she was supposed to.

Ryan : for five years. Yeah.

Ryan W: So I think that gives you some kind of idea.

Ryan : Yeah.

Ryan W: Yeah.

Ryan : So she went at 15 and she was there 15.

Shauna (she/her): and because She joined, she went at like 1415.

Ryan : Yeah. Um, and then they, I think they showed her drinking alcohol at some point.

Ryan W: yeah

Ryan : Like, I can't remember. I feel like they do show her like at a bar or something, wherever they go to that club. um and i feel like that was to establish that she is of drinking age, but, um, there's this endearing moment where,

Ryan : Riri admits that she needs help. She thinks she needs to fight magic with magic. And her mom says, mom has got the plug. And I was so, I just love when like actual black slang works its way into black media.

Ryan W: things but

Ryan : Like, yes.

Ryan W: There was a lot of it here. and it was it was it like None of it felt forced. It like felt very authentic.

Ryan W: It felt like a conversation that people actually have.

Ryan : which to our next ah to the next scene, which I think is probably the highlight of the entire fucking series. They go... ah So it turns out the plug is Miss Stanton's mystic shop.

Ryan : And quite quickly, we are transported to um this alternate dimension by way of Zelma's witchcraft um because she clocks that the help that ah Riri is coming for, like they're pretty straightforward of saying they need magical help.

Ryan : Uh, but they're not like, no, I don't need crystals or whatever. Like you have something from the dark dimension in your pocket. And I can totally tell because I probably have awards all up and through this bitch. And so they transport to, um, the magic shop. I didn't even really take notes about what was happening in there. Like in terms of the scene, because all of my notes are just different, all caps, uh, uh, sentences. So like, um,

Ryan : Well, first reactions to this immediate transportation into the magical world, Shauna, how did you it in? Yes.

Shauna (she/her): I thought it was such a cool scene. like I love that they immediately went right into like Marvel magic lore. like i like I especially pointed the line where when someone was like, yeah, Kamar Taj is my reach school.

Shauna (she/her): And know again, it was just such a like great way of like talking about it as a like and a way that someone who is also that like you know late teen, early 20s would talk about the magical school of

Ryan : yeah

Shauna (she/her): mysticism like of course like you know your shit like it's so cool

Ryan W: um i So I remember Zelma from... I think it was when I was reading Doctor Strange for a while. like She's like a part of the comics. she In the comics, she has like a similar role. She's actually Strange's assistant, wannabe apprentice.

Ryan W: She kind of gets like roped into all of this magical fuckery because like you know she has extrasensory abilities. But I'm really interested because they're doing I think they're doing like Strange Academy.

Ryan : It's, it's great. Um, We see them, Ryan, you'd mentioned the binoculars, microscope thingy, and we learned that it is likely from one of the darkest dimensions, because they're studying the hood.

Ryan : And Cree, Miss Stanton, is um really freaking out about it. ah She says, you know, because they share about Parker and seeing the scars on him and stuff, and She says, you know, the entity that's like associated with that thing, it does not possess you. It influences you.

Ryan : And so we really start to like get the the reality of how bad this, the connection is, whatever. um And essentially um she actually is so freaked out by it. She says like, you all have to leave now. Like I i get this out of my shop.

Ryan : You shouldn't even have it. um and it takes us onto the street where i was just like i i thought it was maybe kind of you it wasn't my favorite scene where she was like talking to her mom like she's one of the avengers she's like well we tried this and like girl do you think your mom just like suddenly ah started understanding everything that's going around you and then they get into an argument and um

Ryan W: What

Ryan : Her mom says, you better not get in that suit.

Ryan W: took

Ryan : And Riri says, or what? And then gets in the suit and flies away, leaving us in conflict. um Yeah. So we have this great, cool reintroduction of magic at, um oh, and we even get a backstory about Miss Stanton being a witch, which is that she was studying at Carmetage, but then got pregnant, which also, who gets pregnant at Carmetage?

Ryan W: Hey, it's magic.

Ryan : She's fucking other wizards. That's a magic-ass baby.

Shauna (she/her): Oh my gosh, is the dad...

Ryan : It's magic.

Shauna (she/her): um What's his name?

Ryan W: Wong.

Ryan : Paisilius.

Ryan W: Wong.

Ryan : Oh, no, the, um, not Wong? No, um, or...

Ryan : cut um So Riri really starts to feel the pressure of Needing to destroy this thing. So she takes it back to her lab and she starts working on all the different ways that she can destroy it and she can't and she realizes she just can't do it.

Ryan : um Which sends her into a whole nother panic attack. um So she jumps in the suit and flies away.

Shauna (she/her): Thank you.

Ryan : and you know natalie is like trying to get her to calm down but she can't calm down until she eventually has like a full-blown panic attack and has to basically eject from the suit and uh riri is not listening to her so she says oh i know what's the perfect idea here i'm gonna go fly off and get my brother i'm gonna get him to jump in this suit and bring him back here, which she does.

Ryan : And he immediately starts to freak out that his sister is an AI.

Shauna (she/her): Which fair?

Ryan W: Understandable.

Ryan : Thoughts?

Shauna (she/her): Yeah.

Ryan W: Yeah, totally.

Ryan : Yeah.

Shauna (she/her): yeah

Ryan W: you know i really liked the whole Natalie subplot. you know I'm coming up in July on a lost anniversary myself.

Ryan : Hmm.

Ryan W: And I think like the idea of having that person, but not that person, right? It's a projection. It's like a, you know, a series of ideas and memories like around you.

Ryan : Right. Yeah.

Ryan W: Right. I think that like, that really resonated with me. But then like, of course, I'm thinking, i' but I'm also thinking about like, okay, like her mom was cool with it, but like, probably probably not her brother, right?

Ryan : yeah

Ryan : yeah

Shauna (she/her): Well, and I think also, like, because they had had the conversation of, like, Natalie being like, so when are you going to tell him about me? And she's like, don't know, it's not now, though. And, like, and I'm like, all right, but, like, they were both wrong because both, like,

Shauna (she/her): And Riri was correct to be wary of telling him that, like hey, this is like a deal. But also, Natalie was right. He needed to know. Because finding out in that kind of way is never going to lead to like the right reaction that you're looking for.

Ryan : Yes.

Ryan : Anything good.

Shauna (she/her): Yeah. And I was like, ugh.

Ryan : Yeah.

Shauna (she/her): And I feel like that's where like, in such a like this three episodes, like you had to get the drama in real quick.

Ryan : Yeah.

Shauna (she/her): And so that's where like you just saw like the conflict with the mom and you just saw the conflict now here with like the three of them kind of where that doesn't go well.

Ryan W: Mm-hmm.

Ryan : Yeah, Riri is getting just like roundhouse kicked in the fucking boobs over and over again.

Shauna (she/her): It sucks.

Ryan : And like, so now not only she has finally kind of come to terms with her Natalie potentially just being her AI, she has accepted Natalie staying and literally...

Ryan : immediately then is made to feel bad about it by um by Xavier. And so she like contemplates like, okay, well maybe I should fucking destroy it because her brother said so.

Ryan : And like, I don't know, it kind of feels like that's her her blood kin. I assume that they probably see each other as sisters, but like, you know, Riri's whole issue, i think the ethical use of Natalie, like, is it fair to be reportraying this person that did not agree to be

Ryan W: Sure. Right.

Ryan : you know, recreated like that.

Ryan W: right

Ryan : um And then the episode wraps up with Hood breaking Zeke out of prison explicitly to get revenge on Riri. And they go back to the lab. And one of the last things we see is him getting some upgrades in this crazy ass machine.

Ryan : um and Shea Coulee gives him a wooden spoon and says bite, which was like super hot.

Ryan W: And then she says, good boy.

Ryan : It was so good.

Ryan W: Yeah.

Ryan : She...

Shauna (she/her): Break out, Star.

Ryan W: Yeah, oh yeah.

Shauna (she/her): Like...

Ryan : Breakout star, really. the the scene The fight scene later when Shay looks and is like, honestly, never mind, and walks away, so fucking real. um

Shauna (she/her): so And I think I love the like detail of like and change administrator from it being to you to, oh, I guess it is to the hood.

Ryan : Yes.

Ryan : Yep. Yep. So... um It ends with the hood putting out this hit on Riri to his gang. And ah it also ends with the Anthony Ramos song, which I don't know if um you all had subtitles on, but it is an Anthony Ramos song called villains.

Ryan W: and didn't realize that Anthony Abramas was a musician.

Ryan : Yeah.

Ryan : Yeah. Well, he's, I know, we know he's a singer cause he was in West side story.

Ryan : So, episode five. um Episode five, really quick, there was quite a bit of buildup. Uxie texted me in all caps saying, like, have you watched, ah like, are you watching?

Ryan : Let me know when you get to episode five. And then Shauna also got a message from someone being like, let me know when you get to episode five. So I'm like, all right, here we go. Episode five.

Ryan : So um Parker has the let the team know that Riri killed John. And we start with Slug capturing Ironheart's suit, which does not have Riri in it ah because Natalie had flown away from the junkyard in the suit after her brother freaked out.

Ryan : um And so we kind of cut over to Riri and Zelma at White Castle, where we learn the hood is connected to Dormammu's dark dimension, and they are interrupted by the blood siblings.

Shauna (she/her): Thank

Ryan : And we get a massive fight scene between the blood siblings, Riri, and Clown, where a lot of things happen. The twins, the the siblings get bubbled,

Ryan : Riri fucks them up with her science, with her environment.

Ryan W: Yeah, she's for science hell out of that, yeah.

Ryan : She's science the fuck out of them hoes.

Ryan W: She made a she made she made a fire hydrant cannon.

Ryan : Absolutely wild. But like also...

Shauna (she/her): Well, the most impressive thing to me was gave everyone watching it an incredible desire to go to White Castle, because I wanted White Castle so much after that scene.

Ryan W: yeah, no, it's...

Ryan : Yeah.

Ryan W: Also, there was... like like In the kitchen, there was that...

Shauna (she/her): I was like, ugh.

Ryan W: like There were those like robotic arms that were like flipping burgers.

Ryan : Yes. Yes.

Ryan W: I was hoping that something was going incorporated with those. but

Shauna (she/her): The White Castle of the future.

Ryan W: So this this scene was... i don't know. like The whole...

Ryan W: Like the crew being like this ragtag group of like, you know, miscreants who were like doing heists or whatever. And then like them like flipping into like, i don't know, contract murder. It just didn't really like land for me.

Ryan W: And then like, right.

Ryan : And they were cool with it.

Ryan W: And then like Slug is trying to like run her over and then, you know, gets out when they're just like, oh, no, truck flip, bye.

Shauna (she/her): Oh.

Ryan W: like Like Clown was like trying to bomb this like child.

Ryan : like it

Ryan W: Like it's it was weird. Yeah.

Ryan : trying to take out a whole white castle.

Ryan W: Right.

Ryan : Um, yeah, it, that definitely bothered me because like the whole premise is that they are motivated to kill her because they cared so deeply about John. But like, so we definitely got the sense that they fucked with Riri, but like, I can't imagine they'd be like, yep, time to kill her.

Ryan W: But.

Ryan W: Right, exactly.

Ryan : Like,

Ryan W: it said so.

Ryan : the fuck that but it It just did it didn't make sense to me. I was not wild about that.

Shauna (she/her): Again, another one of those things where it just felt like kind of rushed in its six episodes-ness.

Shauna (she/her): Like, they had to go from, oh, everything's cool to, yeah, I guess we should probably kill her.

Shauna (she/her): That's a great point. Guy we've been sketched about.

Ryan W: Everybody should try to kill her.

Ryan : So there's this big fight and... ah Riri gives Shay the finger, which is actually a really cute moment that will definitely be a ah gif used in the future of the Ironheart middle finger.

Ryan W: Mm-hmm.

Ryan : um But then we are, the the fight is kind of like, interrupted slash ended when Zeke stain ah ah electrified Zeke stain, who is low key kind of a fucking hottie with that, but with that haircut, um, shows up and tries to kill her and is unsuccessful. And like, we, we get a soliloquy from him about how he didn't want to turn into his father, but here he is trying to destroy an iron freak and

Ryan W: Yeah, i think I think this was a little rushed, too. I think like all of the like antagonist development other than Hood were like really rushed, right?

Ryan : yeah.

Ryan W: like you know i could I could tell that like Joe was kind of like beginning to break bad when he like cut his arm open, like even even when he and Riri were cool.

Ryan : Yes. Yes.

Ryan W: And I'm just like, I thought you were keeping this all under wraps, but um it'll be an interesting...

Ryan : Right.

Ryan W: you know if Honestly, I don't think that it's going to get a season two.

Ryan : Nope.

Ryan W: It got review bombs up terribly. But it'll be interesting to see like if his character comes back in some kind of like anti-hero context.

Ryan : Yeah.

Ryan : um Well, the apparently um Rotten Tomatoes took down all the negative reviews, so it is currently scored at an 86.

And they have this emotional conversation where she does reveal that you creating the suit was not just because she could, but it was to protect her mom after losing Gary and Natalie.

Ryan : um And her mom takes her back to the garage where we have this beautiful holographic flashback um of Gary and Riri,

Ryan : um which ultimately sets us up for the reconstruction of the suit. But um this was ah this was a good emotional beat. Like her coming clean to her mom, admitting she needs help.

Ryan : And then like we get to see like this moment and I, there is a specificness of, of the father daughter relationship.

Ryan : There is a specificity of showing a present black father figure who is like not even her father.

Shauna (she/her): Thank you.

Ryan : he is her stepfather and that is still her dad.

Ryan W: He's the dad who stepped up.

Ryan : He's the dad who stepped up. um And, you know, they were in, they were inseparable. Like they spent all their time together um, That really was... i think they did a great job of, like, that is actually where grief comes from.

Ryan : Fuck, here we go. Want some WandaVision-esque shit. What is grief but love persevering? Like... Of course you're losing your mind, girl. This person who is literally so imprinted in you that you accidentally made her an AI and made her perfectly to the fact that she remembers tiny memories about o three Bonnie and Clyde and shit.

Shauna (she/her): like She like goes to like grab it and gets frustrated.

Ryan : I must have, I must have like looked down or something at the coughing thing because I totally did not. I don't remember seeing that, but that is hysterical. Um, and there was a moment that Landon ran out to go get something.

Ryan : Yeah, it is really beautiful to see her people come around her and she makes, um she starts on the construction of her new car or on on her new suit. Whoa.

Ryan : Yeah. um I also, during that whole, like, emotional beat, her mom was like, no, you have to fight. Like, she was, it's it wasn't, like, turn and face your problems.

Ryan W: Right. She's like, QQ lasers.

Ryan : She's like, you need to beat this motherfucker up. And, yeah, here for it. um So, yeah, simultaneously,

Ryan : ah the criminal gang is kind of falling apart. Zeke lies to the hood about killing Riri and then clown covers for him, but eventually calls out Parker for killing rampage. And he admits that he did it.

Ryan : They get into a big fight and he fires all of them because of course he's losing his, any connection he has to his humanity and is slowly losing himself to the,

Ryan : the succumbing to the hood um which we still we have we know that it's dormammu but we don't know anything about like where it came from or even i don't think we never really learned like where it came from but um so what oh um

Shauna (she/her): Well, when two cases love each other, right look

Ryan W: ah sorry They don't really have to love each other, honestly.

Ryan : um yeah so we get the reveal of um the new suit what do we think of the new suit gorge

Ryan W: Loved it. Loved how it wasn't like

Shauna (she/her): It was pretty hot. 100%.

Ryan W: it wasn't it wasn't overly Iron Man-y. It was like you know her own flair. loved the finish on it.

Ryan : yeah yeah a toot yeah this the new iron heart suit is a toot um and

Parker returns to the house that he robbed at the beginning of episode four, where of course we learn that it is the home of his father, who is like the head of the arts organization, like so some organization that is also like funding these startups that they're robbing.

Ryan : Like it's very convoluted.

Ryan W: Mm-hmm.

Ryan : um and, uh, at the same time, Parker's going back to the house from the last episode, which we learn of course is actually the house of his father who kicked him out at age 12, basically for being bad.

Ryan : Parker has been fully taken over by the hood and gets control of the company by threatening his father and then kicks his dad out of the house in revenge for you know him kicking him out.

Ryan : Nice little turn.

Ryan W: so So the thing about like all of these scenes with Parker and like the the tech heads, I think it's really interesting kind of like a nod to like the big bad here is that he's like making them sign contracts, right?

Ryan : Oh, shit.

Ryan W: Right.

Shauna (she/her): Yeah.

Ryan W: Like he's like, he's doing the let's make a deal thing, right?

Ryan : Damn. um

Ryan W: Yeah.

Ryan : Clocked. Good catch.

Ryan : um And we jump over to Riri's garage gang as they're all freaking out about how great the suit is. And Zelma starts this ritual to infuse this mystical energy source.

Ryan : And just as she warned her a hundred fucking times, like including ah right up to the moment before she does the spell, she says magic comes at a cost.

Ryan W: It comes at a price.

Ryan : And what cost is it Natalie, somehow the energy, and science and magic

Ryan W: Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm.

Ryan : can't exist simultaneously or something and it boots it gets rid of um natalie natalie disappears just as shauna clocked um uh in our last episode like she doesn't say i can't lose you again But it is very clear that it's a I can't lose you again moment.

Ryan : And thusly, Natalie departs this incredible, incredible role. Probably my favorite character in the entire series.

Ryan W: Oh yeah. Way of India, right?

Ryan : And from there, it's kind of downhill, if I'm being honest. Not like...

Ryan : cunty they do give it this like weight they take a moment and really emphasize when he says Mephisto um but like it was literally like fucking coitus interruptus like it was like oh that's it

So he must stop any harm coming from him, even from

Ryan : Yeah. um So back at the garage, Riri is desperate desperate to try to figure out how to get Natalie back and decides now is the time to take on the hood, like right now. So like Natalie disappears and then she's like, time to fight.

Ryan W: The suit didn't explode, but he but I think he did, like, fuck it up.

Ryan : But at the same time, it's flashing to what is clearly a different time. Cause Riri has her hair out. She's taken her, uh, her braids out and her hair looks fine. stunning um i don't know if that's a wig but i think her hair looks really good um and natalie pops back up and so we're jumping back and forth between mephisto and her talking and like her showing concern and like i don't trust you to her talking to Natalie and being like, oh my God, it worked. I got i figured out the magic.

Ryan : And then Natalie kind of like bumps her in the head and we get this like, wait, so Natalie is there and Natalie is physical.

Shauna (she/her): Thank you.

Ryan : And then she is like, she took the deal. Like they they basically tell us she took the deal because she says, how did you do that?

Ryan W: yeah

Ryan : And then they hug and we see a little scar start to form on her arm.

Ryan W: Oh, I didn't see that. Okay.

Ryan W: like So I thought it was kind of this like bait and switch where like you see Mephisto hold out his hand and you see Riri go to hold out her hand, but I thought she was just going like, slap.

Shauna (she/her): Well, that's kind of where I was like, I want to see the confirmation. i think that she doesn't even confirm what she's losing, which again, like, okay, you won't miss...
