Thank you for joining me as we learn about the connection between  Passover, First Fruits, Shavuot (pronounced shav-oo-oat) and Pentecost.  As part of understanding and observing the festivals that God has  appointed for us to observe, we count the Omer (pronounced oh-mare)  today and then have our daily Bible reading session!

Here is the link for a downloadable devotional if you would like to  count the Omer for yourself. It has been put out by the Messianic Jewish  Congregation Shoresh David in Florida: https://www.shoreshdavid.org/download/counting-the-omer-booklet/

Today's reading covers the book of Joel, Chapters 1 and 2. Today's reading deals with prophesy concerning the end times, and how God will send his great army out during the time of His judgment on the earth that will be so numerous, they will be like grasshoppers, but more so than has ever been seen before or will be seen again. In our discussion for daily application we will be encouraged by God's words in the prophecy that, "Even now you can come back to me.  Come back with all your heart. God is kind and full of love. He doesn't get angry very fast. He doesn't want to send trouble. Who knows? Maybe he will change his mind. Maybe he will give you something good. Everyone who calls on God will be saved." We will be reminded of our recent discussion in which we talked about the purpose of God's discipline being to bring people back to Him, and that even during the time of great judgment those who are going through it can be encouraged to come back to Him and be saved. Today, let us be encouraged to seek God with our whole hearts and make Him the most important one in our lives every day.  God promises that when we seek Him with our whole hearts WE WILL FIND HIM! It is a daily lesson that we can never have often enough! Let us be encouraged to share this news with everyone!

Introduction and Overview of Daily Reading

00:00:03
Speaker
Hello everybody, welcome to Friday, April, sir April, where am I? May 16th, 2025. You are here with Robin at In the Family Way Coaching, and we're here for our daily counting of the Omer and our daily Bible reading.
00:00:19
Speaker
We are going through the Bible this year using the day-by Day by Day Kids Bible, which has been written by Karen Henley. If you are just joining in and are finding this event, don't be discouraged by the fact that this is a kid's Bible.
00:00:33
Speaker
This just means that it is written at a level that ages seven and up will be able to read and understand. It's also written in chronological order, and it's already divided in a 365-day format so that we can read one entry a day and finish the Bible in one year.

Application of Bible Readings in Daily Life

00:00:52
Speaker
It's also ah written in one chronology, one ah chronological timeline, like a regular story, because sometimes the events in the Bible are written in multiple books, and this eliminates confusion.
00:01:07
Speaker
And we will just read the event once. They have been consolidated, and they are not written chronologically in the Bible either. they are ah written in ah different books.
00:01:17
Speaker
So the books are presented in their book order, but if that is not chronol chronologically. So this will help us understand the whole big picture of the Bible from Genesis through Revelation.
00:01:31
Speaker
We also are doing ah the main one of the main events for this event, is main points for this event, I should say, is that we are talking about how each day's reading has daily application in our lives.
00:01:47
Speaker
And it's ah it's been really going well this year, and I've been getting a lot of positive feedback. So if you are new to this event and are just finding it, stay tuned.

Accessibility of the Event Across Platforms

00:01:57
Speaker
And I'm glad that you're here, whether you're watching on your favorite video, like YouTube or Spotify or on my website, or whether you are listening along on your favorite podcasting app.
00:02:08
Speaker
This event is available everywhere that you would like to listen. It's on Apple Music, Spotify, Andorra, YouTube Music, regular YouTube, and Podbean, Podcast, Overcast, Podfriend, and everywhere that you would like to listen, I have ah got it uploaded.
00:02:31
Speaker
So thank you for joining me here for this event. And if you are new, I hope to hear you again. hope that you will come back to hear us again.

Motivational Tools for Bible Reading Commitment

00:02:39
Speaker
We also have our daily commitment calendar that we are using to follow along for our daily commitment.
00:02:45
Speaker
This is a little motivational tool that I have available on my website. You can download the free calendar to keep track of your daily commitment so that you can see and when you look back that this was the year that you listened to the whole Bible.
00:02:59
Speaker
And even if you're just starting in, go ahead and feel free to download that calendar. It's available at www.in.org. dot anne
00:03:15
Speaker
under the tab of Read the Bible in one year. And you don't have to input your email address. There's no clickbait. There's no ah first you have to subscribe to anything. It's just there for you to download.
00:03:28
Speaker
I also keep the ah audio versions available under a tab so that you can just listen if you would like to listen on the website. And I also have the video version available under the tab video options for the month on the website under that tab of read the Bible in one year.
00:03:47
Speaker
So you can catch everything there on the website without even having to have a podcast app or a YouTube account or going to the YouTube website or anything like that. So if you using the calendar, go ahead and get that out and your sticker or however you are keeping track of that daily commitment because you're about to hear the Bible today.

Counting of the Omer: A Connection to Shavuot and Pentecost

00:04:10
Speaker
We are going to start off with our daily counting of the Yomer. If you are new, this is something that we are counting down that starts from Passover, the day after Passover, and continues for 50 days to what we would call the Pentecost.
00:04:26
Speaker
But it actually commemorates Shavuot in the Old Testament, which is the final harvest of the ah this spring. And so that also commemorates the day that God gave the Israelite people the Torah.
00:04:42
Speaker
And then in the New Testament, it happens that that was the same day that he bestowed the Holy Spirit on the first believers. So there is a lot going on with our counting of the Yomer. This is a time for being thankful to God and for looking for him to multiply our blessings.
00:05:02
Speaker
I have experienced multiple, multiplying of my blessings in this holy season. and I pray that you are also experiencing the same thing in your life. So here we go. If you would like to count the Omer and you don't already know, all you need to do is repeat after me.
00:05:20
Speaker
There is a short blessing and then we just count the day. And then you also will have counted the Omer.

Understanding the Biblical Commandment of Counting the Omer

00:05:28
Speaker
Blessed are you. O Lord our God, King of the universe, who has set us apart by your commandments
00:05:45
Speaker
and has commanded us to count the Omer.
00:05:52
Speaker
Today is the fifth day of the fifth week and day 33.
00:06:02
Speaker
I have counted the Omer.
00:06:06
Speaker
If you are new here, you may not be aware that this is something that God actually commanded of us in, I think it was Deuteronomy. I can't remember at this exact moment, but it is a commandment for everybody to count Deuteronomy.
00:06:21
Speaker
for everlasting. So ah typically we don't often see this taught in the Christian church and it is seen as something that is strictly observed by ah Jewish people.
00:06:33
Speaker
But actually, if you read the Bible, it is something that we are commanded to do forever. So the part of this event is to help educate everybody on our Jewish roots so that we can be more in compliance with God's commandments and do more to make God the most important one in our lives.
00:06:56
Speaker
That is a big goal for this event is to learn how to make God more important in our lives and to increase our faith in him by seeing how his word has daily application in our very lives every single day.

Reading and Interpreting the Book of Joel

00:07:11
Speaker
So today we are going to be beginning the book of Joel. We saw yesterday that God restored ah good king to Judah with Prince Joash, who was only seven years old, but he had been saved and protected by his aunt and his uncle.
00:07:29
Speaker
His uncle was a priest and he became the council for Joash. And it said at the very end of our reading yesterday that when Joash was a young king, the prophet Joel spoke.
00:07:44
Speaker
And since this Bible is written chronologically, we are now going to begin reading the Book of Joel. I've never actually read the Book of Joel before. i don't know if any of you have.
00:07:55
Speaker
But when I started to read it, and it sounded like it was a end times. prophecy book and indeed it is.
00:08:08
Speaker
So I wanted to give us a little bit of perspective before we begin reading it so that we understand the context that this is being written in.

Joel’s Prophecies and Their Implications

00:08:16
Speaker
This is not um going to be a a ah warning about obedience per se and it's not going to be a curse ah of judgment per se on strictly the nation of israel this is talking about the end times and it corresponds with revelation and ah the grasshoppers that are being spoken of are also referenced in revelation
00:08:50
Speaker
they Let me see here. I actually should get that out.
00:08:56
Speaker
Wasn't sure I was going to need to use my tree of life version.
00:09:03
Speaker
Let's see.
00:09:14
Speaker
The appearance. This is Revelations 9 verse 7. Now the appearance of the locusts was like horses prepared for battle. On their heads were something like crowns of gold and their faces were like human faces.
00:09:29
Speaker
So the grasshoppers, that's how they're being referred to here. Instead of being referred to as locusts, they're being called grasshoppers here in our day by day kids Bible version.
00:09:41
Speaker
and it is referring to the same thing that that is written about in revelation
00:09:50
Speaker
so we have section one of uh joel chapter one and it is entitled the grasshoppers this is what god told joel to tell his people listen people who live in this land tell your children about this An army of big grasshoppers came and ate.
00:10:12
Speaker
They tore down vines and fig trees. They tore the bark off and threw it away. Now fields are dry and torn up. The wheat and barley crops are gone.
00:10:26
Speaker
Even palm trees and apple trees are dry. I'm sure that joy has dried up too.
00:10:36
Speaker
Seeds dry up under the dirt. Storehouses are falling down. Cows make loud noises as they go here and there. They don't have a field to eat from.
00:10:49
Speaker
Even the sheep have no food. I call to you, God. Fire has burned up fields and trees. Even the wild animals want you.
00:11:01
Speaker
Their rivers have dried up.
00:11:05
Speaker
Joel chapter two. big, strong army. There was never an army like this, and there will never be one like it again. In front of the grasshoppers, the land is like the Garden of Eden.
00:11:21
Speaker
Behind them, it's like desert. Nothing gets away from them, and they look like tiny horses running along. They sound like chariots. They jump over mountains.
00:11:34
Speaker
Nations are afraid when they see this army. Their faces turn white. That's because the grasshoppers march like fighters. They go over the walls and march in line.
00:11:47
Speaker
They don't bump each other. They march right on. They go right through walls and stay still in line. They go into the houses through the windows.
00:11:59
Speaker
The earth and all of space shake in front of them. The sun and moon look dark. The stars don't shine.
00:12:11
Speaker
God's voice sounds like thunder in front of his army. There are so many say in the army that they can't be counted. Even now, even now you can come back to me, says God.
00:12:27
Speaker
Come back with all your heart. God is kind and full of love. He doesn't get angry very fast. He doesn't want to send trouble.
00:12:40
Speaker
Who knows? Maybe he will change his mind. Maybe he will give you something good. Blow the horn in God's city, Zion.
00:12:52
Speaker
Oh, that is still God speaking. Blow the horn in God's city, Zion. Make it a special day, a day when no one eats. Call the older people together.
00:13:04
Speaker
Let the children get together. Let the priests cry at the worship house. Let them say, save your people, God. Then God will want his land.
00:13:16
Speaker
He will feel sorry for his people. God will say to them, I'll send you wheat and new vine and oil. The nations will never make fun of you again.
00:13:28
Speaker
I will send the army from the north far away. I'll push it into the sea, then the sea will smell bad. Don't be afraid, my people.
00:13:39
Speaker
Be glad. Show your joy. God has done great things. Don't be afraid, wild animals. Fields are turning green.
00:13:51
Speaker
Trees are growing fruit. God sends you plenty of rain in the fall and spring. It will be just like it was before. I will pay you back for what the grasshoppers ate, says God.
00:14:06
Speaker
They were my great army that I sent. But now you will have enough to eat. You will get full and praise me. i have done wonderful things for you.
00:14:18
Speaker
My people will never be put down again. After the rain comes, I will send my spirit to flow out on all people. Your children will tell my plans.
00:14:31
Speaker
Your old men will dream dreams. Your young men will have dreams even when they are awake. My spirit will flow out on all my servants.
00:14:43
Speaker
Men and women will tell my plans. I will show you wonders in space. I will show you signs on the earth. The sun will get dark.
00:14:55
Speaker
the blood The moon will look like blood. That will happen before the Lord's great day comes. Everyone who calls on God will be saved.
00:15:09
Speaker
And that is the end of our reading today.
00:15:14
Speaker
So even though this is prophecy for the future, to a time which no man knows, every generation he feels that we are closer and closer to God's great day that is coming.
00:15:29
Speaker
And what God is telling us is that we need to look to him, pray for him to save us, that we will ah be spared from his great army of locusts.
00:15:45
Speaker
He says, even now you can come back to me. God is so patient. God is so loving and he is so forgiving. Even now we can come back to him.
00:15:57
Speaker
So for those who do not know him and don't call upon his name, those who are not believers in him, they have the opportunity even now to come to him. they God is going to show everyone who calls on him will be saved.
00:16:15
Speaker
He says, i was I'm so encouraged by this. He says, don't be afraid, my people. Be glad. Show your joy. God has done great things.

Emphasizing Hope and Salvation in End Times

00:16:31
Speaker
And even for those people who have to live through God's judgment, even then he wants him people to come to him. come to him Remember a couple of days ago, we spoke about discipline, that the point of discipline is to bring people to God.
00:16:49
Speaker
It is to bring us closer to him, that we will turn from our ways and seek him. Even in those final days, God wants people to come to him.
00:17:02
Speaker
He will be bringing an army that will be so vast from heaven that it will be like locusts. It will be like a mound of grasshoppers. Worse than the ones that went to Egypt because it says that there are none that came like it before and there are none that will come like it again.
00:17:20
Speaker
So if Egypt thought that that was a great devastation for one of the plagues that he sent when Moses was trying to leave with the people, It is nothing compared to the devastation that God will bring in the times that that are the end times.
00:17:37
Speaker
Even then, God says, you can come back to me. Come back with all your heart. God is kind and full of love And it may not seem that way, but people need to know.
00:17:51
Speaker
So if you are in the future and you are going through these times and you are seeing these videos, know that God wants you to still come to him, that he will, he will save you. He says he doesn't want to send trouble.
00:18:08
Speaker
Who knows? Maybe he will change his mind and maybe he will give you something good. So don't lose faith in him. Don't, don't lose heart. Come to him and ask with all your heart to serve him, to love him with all your heart.
00:18:24
Speaker
And maybe he will give you something good that he will relent.
00:18:30
Speaker
Call together the people, it says. and have a day when no one eats. That is calling for a fast. Come to God with fasting and prayer.
00:18:43
Speaker
If you don't know what to do, that is what God would like for you to do. That is to show that you are looking for him. God says that when we seek him with all of our hearts, we will find him.
00:18:58
Speaker
So while we may not be here as believers anymore, for those who are subject to the discipline, this message is for you. Call on God. Turn to him.
00:19:09
Speaker
Love him with all your heart. Get to know him. He doesn't want to bring destruction. God wants his land. He will feel sorry for his people. God will say to them, I will send you wheat and new wine and oil.
00:19:24
Speaker
For Israel, the nations will never make fun of you again.
00:19:30
Speaker
and for people who are looking for God. I will send the army from the north far away.
00:19:41
Speaker
says, don't be afraid, my people, be glad. God has done great things and it will be just like it was before. So God is speaking about the thousand years of peace that he will bring after his great judgment.
00:19:56
Speaker
Since they were my great army that I sent, but now you will have enough to eat. You will get full and praise me. I have done wonderful things to you and my people will never be put down again.
00:20:09
Speaker
After the rain comes, God will send his spirit to flow out on all people. And people will be prophesying. That is what it means to tell God's plans.
00:20:20
Speaker
Children will prophesy. Old men will dream dreams. Young men will have dreams even when they are awake. And God's spirit will flow out on all of his servants. Men and women will tell my plans.
00:20:34
Speaker
I'll show you wonders in space. So there will be signs in the sky. Before this happens, the sky will get dark. The moon will look like blood. And this will happen before the Lord's great day comes.
00:20:49
Speaker
And everyone who calls on God will be saved. So I'm encouraging us to call on God for him to save us. And even though it may seem like that a day is far off, we don't know when it will come.
00:21:05
Speaker
And that this is an encouragement for our daily application today, for everybody to look to God with our whole hearts, to love him with our whole hearts, to seek him and that we can pray for those people that they will come to ask for God and seek him with all their hearts during that time that comes in the future.
00:21:29
Speaker
Well, thank you for listening today. Prophecy can be a difficult thing to find application for in our daily current lives, but we definitely have application in our current lives today.
00:21:42
Speaker
And if you feel that God has lit your light today, then I ask that you click that light button for those of you who are new. It looks like a thumbs up. It looks like a heart, but it's really a light.
00:21:54
Speaker
And that is our light shining out into the world to bring attention to this event so that God's word can be heard because we are looking to spread the word about reading God's word.
00:22:06
Speaker
Only through reading and hearing God's word will people know that they can come to him. It's never too late to come to God and to seek his love because he wants everybody to come to salvation.
00:22:20
Speaker
Even right there at the end times when the world is going through his judgment, he his whole desire is to use those times to bring people to him.
00:22:32
Speaker
And that is very encouraging to know that it's not too late. Even though you may be in a time of great trouble when the world will see terrible things that it's never seen before, it still isn't too late to call upon wonderful, loving God who is looking for you to turn to him with all of your heart.
00:22:55
Speaker
So I hope everybody has a fantastic rest of their day today. And I will be here for every everyone again tomorrow.
