Thank you for joining me as we learn about the connection between  Passover, First Fruits, Shavuot (pronounced shav-oo-oat) and Pentecost.  As part of understanding and observing the festivals that God has appointed for us to observe, we count the Omer (pronounced oh-mare)  today and then have our daily Bible reading session!

Here is the link for a downloadable devotional if you would like to  count the Omer for yourself. It has been put out by the Messianic Jewish  Congregation Shoresh David in Florida: https://www.shoreshdavid.org/download/counting-the-omer-booklet/

We are on the 48th day of the counting of the omer!!! Shavuot is on Monday and I am encouraging EVERYONE to take the day off from work and observe the day as God commanded- a Sabbath day. God gifts us with an extra day of rest! How gracious is our God?! I don't know about YOU, but I can sure use another day of rest this week!

Today we will read 2 Chronicles Chapters 30-31 and Isaiah Chapters 25:1-9 and 26:1-13. Today we will read about obedient King Hezekiah who encouraged all Israelites to participate in the observance of the Passover festival after restoring the temple to it's former glory. I will share my own personal testimony about how I identify with King Hezekiah as I encourage all of you to participate in observing God's appointed days- Passover, the counting of the omer, Shavuot, and later this year, the feast of Booths (Sukkot). Like Hezekiah, I am encouraging REVIVAL for my Christian brothers and sisters in Christy by advocating for RESTORATION of obedience in observing God's appointed festivals by the Christian church, REFORMATION by Christian churches to return the Sabbath day to Saturday, rather than the church appointed day of Sunday. Historically in the Bible we see revival happen when God's people return to Him! Like King Hezekiah and John the Baptist, I am calling God's people to return to Him, for He is returning to us, and signs are happening in the world TODAY according to what was prophesied in Isaiah long ago, that tell us that Jesus' return is closer than ever!

We will also read prophecy in Isaiah about what God would do for us- and did! God promised to tear down the FEAR of death ad well as get rid of death itself, forever. Jesus fulfilled this promise when He willingly chose to die on the cross for our sins! God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him WILL NOT DIE, BUT HAVE ETERNAL LIFE!! Jesus paid the price for your sins and my sins because He loves us, and when He did so, He took away death!

We have a lot to discuss today, and in our discussion for daily application we will talk about being Godly examples for everyone around us. When people see bad examples, they follow those examples. When people see good examples, they follow those examples, as we have seen with the kings of Judah and Israel. Let us be good witnesses and examples for God by obeying God like Hezekiah did and trusting in God no matter what, so that we can lead others to obey God, rather than disobey God.

Introduction and Purpose

00:00:03
Speaker
Shabbat shalom everybody. to- Today is Saturday, May 31st, 2025 and you are here with Robin at In the Family Way Coaching. And we are here for our daily counting of the Omer and our daily Bible reading as we go through the Day by Day Kids Bible written by Karen Henley.
00:00:23
Speaker
Thank you so much for joining me for this reading, whatever day you're able to get to it. I know it's been ah a crazy time of year with school coming out soon and just a lot going on in general. So don't worry about what day you get around to hearing the daily reading.
00:00:41
Speaker
What matters is that you took the time to participate and to hear it. So thank you so much for being here. Whether you are watching or whether you are listening, I'm so glad that God has led you to this event and that you are here with me participating.

Understanding Fractions and Time

00:00:56
Speaker
If you are using that commitment calendar, go ahead and get that out and your sticker or however you're ready to mark that off. Because guess what? You're about to hear the Bible today.
00:01:08
Speaker
Look at that. We have an entire calendar full with 31 days. That's a lot of days. So we are going to have our monthly fraction for those of you following along who are doing your fractions.
00:01:24
Speaker
Let's see, we have Pearl and we have Forest and might be a little too young for you, Jedi. But let's see what we got here.
00:01:35
Speaker
How many months of the year are there? Yep, 12. twelve So in a fraction, that's the big number, and that's the number we're going to put on the top or the bottom?
00:01:48
Speaker
The bottom. And we just finished the month of, what month is this? That's right, May. So what month, what number is the month of May?
00:02:10
Speaker
That's right. It's the fifth month. So we would put that number on the top. That's right. And so our fraction right now is that we are 5 twelfths of the way through the year.

Counting the Omer and Shavuot Explanations

00:02:28
Speaker
Now, since both five and 12 are different types of numbers, five is odd and 12 is even, and they're not divisible. Sometimes we have like three and 12 and that's odd and even, but it's not divisible with five and 12.
00:02:44
Speaker
So we're gonna keep that in its full form, five twelfths. So if we had one big circle of a pie and we cut it into 12 tiny little pieces,
00:02:58
Speaker
like a clock,
00:03:05
Speaker
we would have five of them, and that would be five twelfths. So we are almost halfway through the year, because six twelfths will be halfway through the year.
00:03:20
Speaker
And we'll get to that next month, won't we?
00:03:23
Speaker
All right. So good job, everybody, with your counting of the ah the months for the fraction. Now it's time to do another counting. I know that it's very late in the day.
00:03:35
Speaker
It is 1030 my time, and I am very tired. It's been a long day for me, and Saturdays are often super long. So we won't do the entire blessing, but I will let you know because you won't be able to participate in here today and to count the Omer.

Second Passover Grace Period

00:03:54
Speaker
I hope you've been counting the Omer for yourself.
00:03:56
Speaker
But today is the 48th day. We have only two more days to go. And then it will be Shavuot. And I'm so excited, even if it doesn't sound or look like it at this late hour.
00:04:10
Speaker
But I am. i am super excited. And ah on my biblical calendar, it shows Shavuot as two days. And so I was rather confused about that. and so I said, it's a two-day holiday coming up.
00:04:24
Speaker
And so I asked about that today at the service, at the synagogue. I said, I'm very confused because... It only talks about one day for Shavuot in the Bible.
00:04:36
Speaker
So why do we have two days on the calendar?
00:04:40
Speaker
What is going on here? And what it was explained to me is is that what you may not be aware is that in the biblical calendar, there's actually a second day for Passover.
00:04:52
Speaker
And that's like a grace day. So a month after the regular Passover, There is a second Passover permitted for those who were unable to attend the first Passover for an extreme cause. Like they were traveling out of country and they couldn't make it to the services.
00:05:13
Speaker
Because we know that chat that Passover is not simply... A one

Hezekiah's Revival and Spiritual Renewal

00:05:17
Speaker
day event. There's a whole bunch of things going on. There's the Seder meal. There's the slaughtering of the lamb for Passover.
00:05:24
Speaker
There is the seven day feast of unleavened bread. So there's a whole bunch of stuff going on. So ah that's actually quite relevant to our story today that we're going to be hearing about because you may remember yesterday that I made reference to the fact that King Hezekiah, now that he is putting the temple back in order and cleaning everything up and getting it all restored, is that the people are going to be celebrating Passover, whereas they had not been doing that for a long time.
00:05:59
Speaker
So it turns out, they don't mention it in our small version, but in the Big Bible, they were actually participating in the second Passover.
00:06:10
Speaker
when they did it they didn't make it in time for the first passover for the priests to be consecrated and to be a clean to be ceremonially clean rather and so they they didn't make it in time for the first passover but they made it for the second the grace passover and so the second day of shavuot is for ah like a grace day because we don't know exactly which day the Torah was given and it's given like the second grace day like for a Passover.
00:06:46
Speaker
um We have that second day. So it's really only celebrated like in Israel on the first day, unless I was actually told that there are some um
00:06:59
Speaker
congregations that are very, very strict and that they insist that you do have to celebrate on the second day as well. But that's tradition, not biblical. And it's always best to err on the side biblical.

Scripture's Uplifting Power

00:07:13
Speaker
So there you go. is That turns out Shavuot is a one-day holiday again, after all.
00:07:20
Speaker
And so that's what we're going to be seeing today is that the people were actually participating in the second Passover. So we are going to get in with our reading today.
00:07:32
Speaker
And oh my gosh, there was something else I was gonna share with you. ah Oh, I wanted to share with you. um This is a ah an event about daily application.
00:07:44
Speaker
And, you know, our days are not all rainbows and sunshine and just happy all day long. We have real life that goes on. And i was so frustrated with things going on this morning. I was having argument with my husband, argument with my daughter lately.
00:08:02
Speaker
i was just, I was so irritable and upset. And I sit down in the morning before i'd start my coffee drinking.
00:08:14
Speaker
I drink a great deal of time and like great deal of coffee in the morning and I spend a lot of time doing it. And so I make the coffee and then before I actually have that first cup, I've modified my routine to do my reading first.
00:08:29
Speaker
And so I sat down to do my reading and then my house was not in good order. So I took it into my bedroom and closed the door
00:08:41
Speaker
And let me tell you, just spending that time in God's word just really made me feel better. And so I wanted to encourage you that if you are having ah really hard day, go pick up your Bible, spend the time with the Lord, and he can put it right.
00:09:07
Speaker
He did that for me, not just once today, but twice. I've had a very long day. I've had a very frustrating day ah because my my ring that i received back from the jeweler after having it resized, they've damaged it.
00:09:24
Speaker
And i took it back to them after I realized what they had done on the inside, that they didn't do a good job when they sized it. And i took it back last week and they said that they would fix it. But in order to fix it, they had to cut off the whole bottom portion of my ring And they put a new one on, and they did it in a hurry, and now it actually looks worse now than it did before.
00:09:49
Speaker
It's all on the inside, but it's there. And I'm just so frustrated, because now it can't be fixed any further, because it's already been cut twice.
00:10:00
Speaker
So the structural integrity of it is compromised at this point. So I've just been very upset, because this is my wedding ring, and I've just been...
00:10:13
Speaker
And so I got home and I'm tired and I'm thinking, oh, I still need to do my recording. And this takes me a long time because I need to reread again. and need to see what God wants me to say. And i was just like, okay, let's get this done.
00:10:33
Speaker
But when I opened up God's word and I started reading, he fixed it. He didn't fix the ring. He fixed me. And I felt so much better after spending that time in the Word.
00:10:49
Speaker
It just reading about our our lesson today, just reading our entry today, not not the lesson, but reading about our entry today, it just really made me feel better.
00:11:00
Speaker
And now I feel like I'm ready to do it. And so I wanted to encourage you that it absolutely can make a big difference in your day if you are finding that everything is just going wrong, no matter what it is, and you're just having a terrible day.
00:11:17
Speaker
Remember that story, Harold? and I think it was Harold. No, Alexander. Alexander and the terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day.
00:11:28
Speaker
and that And I want you to know that reading your Bible can make it better. Spending that time with God can make it better. Because it did for me. So that's part of what we're called to do. We're called to be witnesses. Witness is somebody who experiences something with God and then tells other people about it.

Leadership and Spiritual Rejuvenation

00:11:45
Speaker
So i want to bring glory to God, and I wanted to share that with you so that you can in turn be encouraged and know for your own daily application in your life that you can go to God's word and he will make your day better.
00:12:01
Speaker
So with that in mind, let us get started with this joyful reading we have today because it is lovely.
00:12:13
Speaker
Today's reading comes to us out of 2 Chronicles chapters 30 and 31. And then we will have more prophecy in Isaiah in chapters 25 verses 1 through chapter 26 verses 1 through 13.
00:12:26
Speaker
and chapter twenty six verse one through thirteen
00:12:32
Speaker
Our first section is entitled, A Holiday.
00:12:37
Speaker
Then King Hezekiah wrote letters to all the people of Judah. And he wrote to the people of Israel too. He asked everybody to come to the worship house in Jerusalem.
00:12:52
Speaker
He asked everyone to come for Passover. It had been a long time since everyone got together for the Passover holiday.
00:13:04
Speaker
So the King's helpers took the letters all over the land. And the letter said, People of Israel, come back to God. Then he can turn back to you Come to his worship house.
00:13:21
Speaker
Obey God. Then he will stop being angry at you. Your enemies will set your people free. God is kind and loving.
00:13:33
Speaker
He won't turn away from you. Just come back to him.
00:13:42
Speaker
Many people laughed at the letters and they laughed at the people who were bringing the letters. But some people came to Jerusalem.
00:13:54
Speaker
And God helped people in Judah agree to do what the king said. And that's because the king was obeying God's word. Lots of people came for the Passover holiday.
00:14:10
Speaker
And they also had the flatbread holiday, the feast of unleavened bread.
00:14:16
Speaker
The holiday lasted a week. All the people showed their joy and the priests sang to God every day. They played music too. They praised God.
00:14:29
Speaker
Then they all chose to keep the holiday going. la So for seven more days, they kept the Passover holiday and there was lots of joy in Jerusalem.
00:14:41
Speaker
It hadn't been like this since King Solomon's time. The priests stood up and they prayed that God would bring good things to his people.
00:14:53
Speaker
God heard their prayer. Then King Hezekiah gave the priests different jobs. he took the priests to bring He told the people to bring things for the priests and that way the priests could use their time doing work for God and they could do what God's law said they should do.
00:15:11
Speaker
right away the people gave more than enough. They brought new wine and oil and honey. They brought the first of all the crops they grew. And they brought some of their cows and sheep.
00:15:28
Speaker
The king saw the piles of gifts people brought and he praised God. He prayed that good things would come to his people. King Hezekiah asked with the priests about the piles of gifts.
00:15:43
Speaker
And they said, we have more than enough to eat. And it's all because God is being so good to his people. We have a lot left over.
00:15:55
Speaker
So the king told people to make rooms to store things in. And they made these rooms at the worship house. Then they brought the pile of ah gifts into the rooms.
00:16:08
Speaker
King Hezekiah did what was good and right. And he kept following God no matter what. He followed God with his whole heart.

Shavuot Preparations and Traditions

00:16:21
Speaker
So God brought good things to Hezekiah.
00:16:27
Speaker
I want to stop there and we'll go on to Isaiah in just a moment. Because I want us to keep our mind focused on one thing at a time today. So after the pet the Feast of Passover, remember we have the Counting of the Omer.
00:16:43
Speaker
So the people would have also gone forward with the Counting of the Omer. Now remember the Counting of the Omer is the first fruits festival. And so we have the um the Feast of First Fruits, which is what the Counting of the Omer time is.
00:17:02
Speaker
But we remember that happens, the very first celebration of that happens three days after Passover because Jesus is the fulfillment of that first fruits.
00:17:15
Speaker
And it tells us in the New Testament that he is the first fruits of the ones who have come back, um the first fruits who have risen from the dead. So he is our first fruits.
00:17:28
Speaker
And he is God's only son. So God gave his first son, his only son. and It is important to notice that the time frame that this is happening is the exact same time frame that we are in now, except for the people we're doing the second um Passover, remember? so But they're still counting the Omer for 49 days in anticipation of Shavuot.
00:17:56
Speaker
So remember, Shavuot is the day that they bring in the final harvest and they bring in a offering of first fruits to the Lord, an extra offering that is in accordance with however the Lord has blessed them.
00:18:14
Speaker
So what we are seeing here is not simply an outpouring of of obedience to God in in generosity by by responding and saying, yes, we will donate.
00:18:26
Speaker
these The people are obeying. And so it's very important to notice that, like we've talked about before, with the fact that people watch us and we are examples for God. We are God's witnesses and we are compared to sheep because people have a tendency to follow what they see.
00:18:51
Speaker
If they see a leader doing bad things, then the people will follow. And that's where we see the people were led to sin when they had leaders, the kings, who were performing and doing bad things and behaving sinfully themselves.
00:19:07
Speaker
But when we have a king who was godly and doing the right thing and following God, then the people... followed him in his example. In the same way, we need to make sure that we are giving a godly example so that others around us may follow our good examples and not be led astray like we've talked about.
00:19:31
Speaker
And I love Hezekiah's prayer. I identify with Hezekiah in this. I have been encouraging the return to God's festivals.
00:19:45
Speaker
So I feel like Hezekiah, where I am calling you, you who are watching and all who may come to find these videos in the future, it is very much on my heart that God has put it on me to help be a bridge with my Gentile brothers and sisters in Christ, with our Jewish brothers and sisters in Christ who are Messianic Jews who believe in the Jesus as their Messiah.
00:20:12
Speaker
And i think it is very important for us to return to observing God's festivals, his appointed times, because these are times that God appointed to be done forever.
00:20:28
Speaker
And we as Christians are not observing these holidays. And we can see here that when the people return to God, when they restore the festivals, when they have reformation, when they reform their behavior and they restore the temple, and ah that what rather when they restore the festivals, that is when the people experience revival And as Christians, we often say, revive us, O Lord, revive us.
00:21:02
Speaker
But I think it's very important to note that the times that revival comes in the Bible, historically, when the people are coming back to God to reform and restore, to go back to doing what God says to do,
00:21:23
Speaker
So these are very important times. And this is very timely. Nothing happens with coincidence with God, does it? So I don't think it's any coincidence that we are reading about this now during this time of counting of the Omer.
00:21:38
Speaker
And we have Monday, which is going to be Shavuot. And God commands that that is to be another Sabbath day where we don't do any work. So I have taken the day off from work.
00:21:50
Speaker
And i wanted to encourage all of you out there to also take a rest, an extra Sabbath. You are probably taking Sunday as your Sabbath, so you will have a two-day Sabbath but with Monday as well for Shavuot.

Observing God's Festivals

00:22:05
Speaker
And it's traditional for Shavuot to bake two loaves of bread, but not on Shavuot. So that would be tomorrow. You'd want to bake that bread if you were going to do so. I am going to be baking ah blueberry muffin bread.
00:22:20
Speaker
because I don't eat a lot of loaves of bread. And I've never been that fabulous about baking bread. I even have a bread maker. But I went to the store today and I was looking at stuff ah's for baking bread.
00:22:32
Speaker
And then I realized when my husband pointed out, he said, oh, that blueberry muffin mix looks good. And I said, oh, I already have blueberry muffin mix. I don't need to buy any but blueberry muffin mix. And then I remembered
00:22:45
Speaker
Every once in a while, instead of making them into blueberry muffins, I make them into a loaf of blueberry bread. So it is customary, not customary, but it is commanded in the Bible by God to bake two loaves of bread, and they are a wave offering.
00:23:06
Speaker
So I got figure out how I'm goingnna wave my bread. But we take the bread. And traditionally, these are challah bread. So they come in like a long loaf. And then you would take them and they there's like a big celebration with these challah loaves, challah bread. And then you wave them and you wave them in all directions as a wave offering to God to show the bounty for what he has provided for us.
00:23:29
Speaker
And ah we'll read more about that when I try to get my my recording just on Shavuot done. But I just wanted to point that out. So that's what the people are doing right now in the reading is that they are having revival.
00:23:44
Speaker
And I identify with Hezekiah who has sent out that letter to everybody and encouraged them to come. And he says, come back to God. Then he can turn back to you.
00:23:56
Speaker
Come to his worship house, obey God. God is kind and loving. He won't turn away from you. Just come back to him.
00:24:09
Speaker
And God helped people in Judah agree to do what the king said. So I'm hoping that God will help all of you to do what I'm asking to observe God's festivals because I am obeying God's word.
00:24:30
Speaker
And so when I read this today, God just really lit my light and I couldn't wait to share that.

Reflections on Faithfulness and Peace

00:24:38
Speaker
So there we go. um,
00:24:42
Speaker
our our that That is going to be our our daily application today, is that King Hezekiah did what was good and right, and he kept following God no matter what. And we read this before, but you can't say it too many times.
00:24:55
Speaker
He followed God with his whole heart, so God brought good things to Hezekiah. And when I read this, I tell you, it just it made my terrible days better, reading such joyful joyful things going on.
00:25:14
Speaker
And I was just so happy to read that. How can you not have a better day? No matter how terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day your was after reading such a wonderful thing as that.
00:25:29
Speaker
All right. Well, we actually have more good stuff to read. So let's head into Isaiah chapter 25, verses one through nine. And this is entitled A Dinner Party on the Mountain.
00:25:43
Speaker
Isaiah, this is Isaiah speaking. And he says, Lord, you are my God. will tell how great you are. I will cheer for your name.
00:25:55
Speaker
You keep your promises. You have done wonderful things. You planned these things a long time ago. You turned the city into a pile of bricks.
00:26:08
Speaker
You turned the fort into a pile of sticks. The enemy's strong city won't be a city any anymore. No one will ever build it again.
00:26:22
Speaker
So people in strong nations will worship you. Cities of mean people will look up to you. You have been like a safe place for poor people.
00:26:35
Speaker
You've been like a place to get away from storm and heat. Mean people are like a storm beating a wall. They are like heat in the desert.
00:26:47
Speaker
But you make them be quiet. A cloud's shadow makes the heat cool down. And that's what you're like when you make mean people get quiet.
00:27:01
Speaker
God will make a dinner party on Zion Mountain. It will be a party with wine. It will have the best meat and the best wine.
00:27:12
Speaker
And God will tear down the fear of death. God will get rid of death forever. God will clean all tears away from every face.
00:27:24
Speaker
And no one will say anything bad about his people anymore. That day they will say, This is our God! We trusted him and he saved us.
00:27:38
Speaker
Let's show our joy let's be glad that he saved us.
00:27:43
Speaker
Peace from God, Isaiah 26, verses 1 through 13. Then the people in the land of Judah will sing this song.
00:27:55
Speaker
You'll keep giving peace to people who keep thinking about you. They trust in you.
00:28:05
Speaker
my internet cut out for just a moment. Sorry about that. I'm going to start over. Then the people in the land of Judah will sing this song.
00:28:16
Speaker
You'll keep giving peace to people who keep thinking about you. They trust in you. Trust in God for forever. God the Lord is like a rock.
00:28:30
Speaker
He is strong and he lasts forever. He lets proud people know they're not so great. People who do right walk on a flat road.
00:28:44
Speaker
God makes their way smooth. God, we obey your laws and we wait for you. We want everyone to know who you are That's what our hearts really want.
00:28:59
Speaker
My soul wants you in the night. My spirit wants you in the morning. You say what's right and wrong on the earth. That way people learn what's right.
00:29:12
Speaker
God, you give us peace. If we've done anything good, it's because of what you have done for us. Lord, our God, other kings have ruled over us, but your name is the only name we look up to. him
00:29:33
Speaker
And that's the end of our reading today.
00:29:38

Did you hear that reference about Jesus? Did you hear him say God will tear down the fear of death and God will get rid of death forever? Because God so loved us that he sent his only son that whoever believes in him will not die, but will have eternal life.

Jesus took care of death for us. We don't need to be afraid that we're going to die. used to be really afraid of that. I don't know about you, but I did. And I don't have to be afraid of that anymore.
00:30:16
Speaker
Because it's just a transition into our time with God in person. He has given us the Holy Spirit as a deposit of what is to come.
00:30:29
Speaker
I can't wait. Not that I want to leave right now, but I have other stuff to do still for God. God has work for me to do. I want to do the stuff that he has given me to do first.
00:30:40
Speaker
But we don't have to worry about death. God has taken that away. And it says that he will take away the fear. God will tear down the fear of death.
00:30:53
Speaker
We don't have to be afraid of it. That is really good news. God will get rid of death forever. he did. did it when Jesus died on the cross.
00:31:05
Speaker
And he was resurrected. And Jesus is alive. He is alive right now with you and with me. oh I love that. Oh, and says, God will give us peace. It says, you keep giving peace to people who keep thinking about you.
00:31:25
Speaker
they trust in you. Trust in God forever. God, the Lord is like a rock. Oh, who is that about? That's right, Jesus. Jesus is our rock.
00:31:39
Speaker
He is strong and he lasts forever. and he will let the proud people know that they are not so great. People who do right walk on a flat road.
00:31:52
Speaker
Jesus makes our ways straight. His word, God's word is a lamp unto our feet and a light to our path.
00:32:03
Speaker
Isn't that lovely?
00:32:09
Speaker
Well, And there's really not, I could go on and on and on about our Lord's word, but we've had our daily application through, uh, through hearing about King Hezekiah and restoring the temple and restoring Passover.
00:32:29
Speaker
And we've just had a lot of wonderful reading today. Is it any wonder that reading today's, uh, What do I call it? ah to- Today's entry gave me a much better day.
00:32:44
Speaker
