Thank you for joining me as we learn about the connection between  Passover, First Fruits, Shavuot (pronounced shav-oo-oat) and Pentecost.  As part of understanding and observing the festivals that God has  appointed for us to observe, we count the Omer (pronounced oh-mare)  today and then have our daily Bible reading session!

Here is the link for a downloadable devotional if you would like to  count the Omer for yourself. It has been put out by the Messianic Jewish  Congregation Shoresh David in Florida:    https://www.shoreshdavid.org/download/counting-the-omer-booklet/

Today's reading covers 2 Kings Chapter 8:7-15, 25-29, and Chapter 9. Today we will read about Elisha naming Hazael as the  next king of Aram and Jehu as the next king of Israel. We will read about God's divine judgment taking place that he foretold concerning King Ahab, Jezebel, and Ahab's family. In our discussion for daily application today we will discuss the importance of having faith in God's perfect, divine timing and having patience to wait for Him to fulfil His divine plan. We may not know WHEN God will do something that we have prayed for, but we can trust that God, in all His loving kindness, will carry out His plan that includes working good into everything, even if we cannot see it or know when He will do it.

If you would like to join me LIVE for the daily reading you can register to attend on my site, here: https://www.inthefamilywaycoaching.com/schedule

Registration for the live event is a tiered pricing event, so you are not required to pay to attend, only if you feel led. Introduction and Session Overview

Speaker
Welcome, welcome everybody. Today is Wednesday. It's May 14th and you are here with Robin at In The Family Way Coaching. We are here for our daily counting of the Omer and we are also here for our daily Bible reading.
00:00:20
Speaker
We are reading through the what?

Bible Reading and Omer Counting

00:00:23
Speaker
The Day by Day Kids Bible and we have found that it is written by who? That's right, Karen Henley.
00:00:33
Speaker
If you are just finding this event, I'm so glad that you are here. And if you have been here for a while, thank you so much for being here and reading the Bible with me this year. I am so glad that everybody is following along and that you are ah enjoying this event.
00:00:49
Speaker
Thank you for coming back every day and listening to the Bible with me. We are also ah ready to take out our commitment calendar. So if you have that out today, go ahead and get your sticker out or however it is you're marking off your calendar, because you're about to hear the Bible today.
00:01:11
Speaker
We have been counting the Omer and we are on day 31. I hope that you are enjoying a very blessed festival time during these weeks as we count up to 50 days until we reach Shavuot.
00:01:26
Speaker
If you would like to count the Omer with me today, just simply repeat after me.
00:01:33
Speaker
Blessed are you, o Lord our God, King of the universe, who has set us apart by your commandments and has commanded us to count the Omer.
00:01:55
Speaker
Today is the third day of the fifth week and day 31. I have counted the Omer.
00:02:08
Speaker
Now, of course, if you are following along in the future and it is not 2025, then you will be on a different day of the counting of Omer. So ah go ahead. And ah if you are interested in following along with that, I'm sure that you can find the devotional still at the same place where the link will be. And that's at shoreshdavid.org.
00:02:30
Speaker
I have found that they have put one out in prior years. I originally found that through the Tree of Life version of the Bible app. And it was an outdated calendar or devotional for that.
00:02:43
Speaker
So I searched where to find it and saw that it was from shereshdavid.org out of Florida, which is a Messianic Jewish congregation. And when I went to that website, I found that indeed they had this year's counting of the Omer up there.
00:02:58
Speaker
So if you are following along on a later year than 2025, feel free to head up shoreshdavid.org and you will find that link in the description so that you too can have your own copy of their devotional.
00:03:11
Speaker
I love their a little devotional because it gives an introduction as to why we do this, which we spoke about and read yesterday or the day before. And they give you a theme each day, as well as a scripture verse, some thoughts and a challenge.
00:03:29
Speaker
And ah some of you may have a devotional that you follow already, and that's fantastic. But these are specifically ah for the ah counting of the Omer during this time until we reach Shavuot, which is the final festival where it commemorates the the giving of the Torah by Moses.

Understanding Shavuot and the Holy Spirit

00:03:53
Speaker
and And we know that Jesus fulfilled this when God sent the Spirit, the Holy Spirit, to indwell in us after Jesus was resurrected. And the disciples received the first um receiving of the Holy Spirit.
00:04:10
Speaker
So that is what we are commemorating with this. So if you are ah interested in that, I will have that link in the bottom below in the description. And I hope that you in the future are choosing to count the Omer for yourself as well, because it's not just ah a matter of choice, it's a matter of obeying God's commandment to do so.

Discussion on 2 Kings Events

00:04:30
Speaker
And we do want to encourage obedience. We are going to be picking up today 2 Kings chapter eight nine. and second kings chapter nine Yesterday, we saw that ah there was a terrible siege and a famine in Israel, in Samaria.
00:04:54
Speaker
And we saw that ah God alleviated that. And that there was the soldier that was with King Joram and Elisha had told him that because he did not believe that God was going to make things different by the next day, he would get to see it, but not eat any of it. And that was exactly what happened.
00:05:16
Speaker
So what we saw yesterday, as we spoke about was God fulfilling what he had said would happen. both in Deuteronomy, but the curses that would appear if people did not obey, as well as him speaking through Elisha, the prophet to, to tell what was going to happen.
00:05:37
Speaker
And today we're going to see more of God's fulfillment of what he said would happen. And so that's why I'm giving us that little reminder of what we saw yesterday, because we're going to see additional items today where God is fulfilling things that he spoke about.
00:05:55
Speaker
So we start off in 2 Kings 8, verses 7-15 and twenty five through twenty nine And again, the reason that I give these Bible verses for where you can find this information is so that if you are hungry for more of God's word and you feel that there may be some small detail or a little or some detail that is missing out of our version and that you feel led and hungry for more of what's going on, you will know where to look this up and read and in your own big Bible.
00:06:24
Speaker
So I will also always put those in the description as well.
00:06:30
Speaker
Elisha went to the city of Damascus. It was in the land of Aram. The king of Aram was sick, but somebody told him that Elisha was in his land.
00:06:42
Speaker
So the king of Aram called for a man named Hazael. Choose a gift, said the king. Take it to Elisha and tell him to ask God if I will get well.
00:06:55
Speaker
So Hazael chose some of the finest things in the city. It took 40 camels to carry them. Then Hazael took the gifts to Elisha. The king of Aram is sick, said Hazael.
00:07:09
Speaker
He sent me to ask if he will get well. Tell him that he will get well, said Elisha. But God has shown me that he will really die.
00:07:22
Speaker
Elisha kept looking right at Hazael. Hazael began to worry. And then Elisha started crying.
00:07:34
Speaker
Why are you crying? asked Hazael. I know how you will hurt God's people in Israel, said Elisha.
00:07:47
Speaker
You will burn their forts. You will kill their people.
00:07:53
Speaker
How could I do that? asked Hazael. I am about as important as a dog. God showed me what's going to happen, said Elijah.
00:08:04
Speaker
You will become the king of Aram.
00:08:09
Speaker
Hazael went back to the king. What did Elijah tell you? asked the king. He said you would get well, said Hazael. And the next day, Hazael got a heavy piece of cloth.
00:08:25
Speaker
He got it all wet. Then he put that cloth over the king's face. The king could not breathe. So he died, and Hazael became the next king of Aram.
00:08:42
Speaker
Now King Ahaziah of Judah got together with King Joram of Israel. They took their armies out to fight Hazael. And King Joram got hurt in the fight, so he went back to Israel.
00:08:54
Speaker
King Ahaziah went to visit him.
00:08:59
Speaker
2 Kings chapter 9.

Jehu's Anointing and Judgment

00:09:01
Speaker
Driving like a crazy man.
00:09:04
Speaker
Now Elisha called for a young prophet. He said, Hurry and take this oil to Ramoth. Look for Jehu there. Get him to leave his friends and come with you, then take him into a house Put this oil on his head to show that he will be king.
00:09:24
Speaker
Say that God chose him to be Israel's king. Then leave the house and run. Don't stop.
00:09:34
Speaker
The young prophet went to Ramah. He saw Jehu and some other army officers sitting there. I have a message, he said. Who is it for? asked Jehu.
00:09:47
Speaker
It's for you, said the young prophet. So Jehu got up and followed him into the house. The prophet put oil on Jehu's head to show that he would be king.
00:09:58
Speaker
Then the prophet told Jehu these words from God. I chose you to be Israel's king. Get rid of all of Ahab's family. Do it, because his wife Jezebel killed so many of my prophets.
00:10:15
Speaker
I will pay back the family of Ahab now. Dogs will eat Jezebel. No one will put her in a grave.
00:10:24
Speaker
Then the young prophet left the house and ran. Jehu came out of the house. Are you all right? Asked the army officers.
00:10:35
Speaker
That young man was acting crazy. Why did he come here? You know how prophets are, said Jehu. No, they said. Tell us what happened.
00:10:48
Speaker
All right, said Jehu. He told me that God chooses me to be Israel's king.
00:10:58
Speaker
Then the men took off their coats. They put them on the steps. Jehu stood on the coats. Someone blew a horn and everyone called out, Jehu is the king!
00:11:08
Speaker
and I think you want me to be king, said Jehu. So don't let anybody out of the city. Someone might go tell King Joram. Then Jehu made plans against Joram.
00:11:23
Speaker
Jehu rode in his chariot to where King Joram was. King Joram found out Jehu was coming, and he sent a horse rider to meet him. Ask him if he comes in peace, said King Joram.
00:11:38
Speaker
So the horse rider rode out to meet Jehu. The king asks if you come in peace, he said. Do you really want peace? Asked Jehu.
00:11:50
Speaker
Then come with me.
00:11:53
Speaker
A man was helping King Joram by watching from the city. He said, the horse rider got there, but he isn't coming back. So King Joram sent another horse rider out, and he met Jehu.
00:12:07
Speaker
He said, the king asks if you come in peace. Do you really want peace? asked Jehu. Then come with me.
00:12:18
Speaker
The man watching from the city said, the rider got there, but he isn't coming back. The chariot driver is driving like a crazy man. It must be Jehu. Get my chariot ready, said Israel's King Joram.
00:12:34
Speaker
Then King Joram rode out to meet Jehu.
00:12:38
Speaker
King Ahaziah from Judah was visiting and he rode his chariot out there too. Jehu, do you come in peace? asked King Joram. How can we have peace?
00:12:51
Speaker
asked Jehu. Your mother, Jezebel, led the people to follow idols and witches. Then King Joram turned around and drove away.
00:13:02
Speaker
He shouted to Ahaziah, they've tricked us, they're against us. Then Jehu shot an arrow and it hit Joram right between the shoulders. It hit his heart.
00:13:14
Speaker
Joram sank down in his chariot. Throw his body into the field, said Jehu. It's the field Naboth used to have. I remember when we rode with Joram's father, God promised to pay King Ahab back for killing Naboth.
00:13:32
Speaker
He promised it would happen here. and God is keeping that promise today.
00:13:39
Speaker
King Ahaziah from Judah saw what happened. He drove away, but Jehu chased after him too. Kill Ahaziah too, shouted Jehu. Jehu's men hurt Ahaziah, but he got away.
00:13:54
Speaker
Jehu went into the city. Jezebel heard about it, so she put makeup on her eyes. She fixed her hair. Then she looked out a window. Jehu came in the gate.
00:14:08
Speaker
Jezebel called. Do you come in peace?
00:14:14
Speaker
Jehu looked up at Jezebel. And Jehu called. Who is on my side? Two or three men looked out the window at Jehu. Throw Jezebel out the window, called Jehu.
00:14:29
Speaker
So they threw Jezebel out the window and then the horses rode over her.
00:14:35
Speaker
Jehu went inside. He had something to eat and drink. Then he said, Someone go and take care of Jezebel's body. Put it in a grave.
00:14:47
Speaker
After all, she was a princess.
00:14:51
Speaker
Some men went out to pick up Jezebel's body, but they couldn't find it all they could find was her skull, her feet, and her hands.
00:15:03
Speaker
They went to tell Jehu, and Jehu said, What God said has just come true. Elijah did tell God's words. He said that dogs would eat Jezebel's body.
00:15:19
Speaker
And that is the end of our reading today.

The Power of Patience

00:15:25
Speaker
So we see here that God is still carrying out discipline, like we spoke about yesterday. We see that God's words are true.
00:15:37
Speaker
And when he says something will happen, just because he doesn't do it right then and there, doesn't mean that it isn't going to happen in the time that he has decided that it will happen under the circumstances where he will bring it about.
00:15:53
Speaker
So our daily application today is to be patient and wait for God in his perfect timing. We may want God to do something right away, but our days are not like God's days.
00:16:07
Speaker
A day for us is is like a second to God. It's like no time at all. Our God is the great I am. He has always existed. And that's difficult for us who are finite, meaning that we have a beginning and an end physically.
00:16:25
Speaker
and we have not always existed with him. But for God, his timing is perfect. He has divine timing. He sets us up with divine appointments for us to do things at certain times.
00:16:41
Speaker
And these are divine appointments are like what we saw here. When God brings about his perfect timing, It's the right time. We don't understand why God does things in the timing that he does.
00:16:54
Speaker
But we need to trust in God and have faith in him that his timing and when he will do things is perfect and right and good. And he has his reasons, even though we may not understand it So our daily application today is to be encouraged to hold on and wait if we are waiting for something that we have asked God about.
00:17:17
Speaker
And we may have assurance in our heart that God may have given us peace about it so that we know something will happen. We just don't know when. So just like we saw David, he was promised by God and anointed that he would be king in in Israel.
00:17:34
Speaker
And it was years and years before that would come about. And David patiently waited. He would not kill the king in order to secure his position.
00:17:45
Speaker
He waited for God. Whatever timing was for God is the time that David waited for. And we are taught that David loved God with his whole heart and he trusted God.
00:17:58
Speaker
He wasn't perfect. He sinned, he made mistakes, and we're not perfect either. We sin and we make mistakes. But as part of loving God with our whole hearts, let us be committed to waiting for God in his perfect timing and to give us patience.
00:18:15
Speaker
Patience is the is one of the fruits of the Spirit. And it can be so hard to have patience, can't it? I know that I am anxiously awaiting for God's...
00:18:26
Speaker
timing, i because I truly believe that God is going to bring my necklace back to me. And I'm so excited and I want to see it right away, like the ax floating right away.
00:18:39
Speaker
But i am patiently waiting for God two to bring about his events because I have confidence that God will do it. I just don't know when.
00:18:50
Speaker
So that's my daily application for me to show you how I am applying it in my life. And so I hope that you find that encouraging. And as an example of how you can apply it in your life or whatever you have going on in your life, where you may need to wait for God's perfect divine time.
00:19:08
Speaker
And we trust that God is good and that he is right and that he is just, and that he will work things out just the right time, even though we don't understand why ah certain time may be the correct time for that to happen.
00:19:25
Speaker
So I pray for us to have the fruit of the spirit of patience as we await for God's perfect divine timing for everything in our lives.

Conclusion and Call to Action

00:19:33
Speaker
So thank you for joining me today.
00:19:35
Speaker
I pray that you feel God has lit your light to- today and we can show that God has lit our light by clicking that light button at the end. It looks like a thumbs up.
00:19:46
Speaker
It looks like a heart, but it's really a light. And together we will light up the world and show people God's word. And together we can help spread the word about reading God's word because it really does have daily application in our lives every single day.
00:20:04
Speaker
um I'm glad that you're here with me for this event, whether you are following along on your favorite podcast or whether you are watching the video somewhere. And if you know someone who could benefit from our reading, please share the event with them.
00:20:17
Speaker
