Introduction to Supplementary Video
00:00:02
Speaker
Hey there everybody, it is still May 26th and we are doing a supplementary a supplemental video. I realized that there was more at the end of Matthew chapter 13 relating to the prophecy.
00:00:16
Speaker
I was going to originally start with that one and I liked the mark so so much that I ended up reading that one. And it was good. ah But in Matthew, there was just a great deal of information. i think that was my Luke, rather. I'm sorry, Luke.
00:00:32
Speaker
Luke chapter 8. I liked the way it was worded. And I should have just ah read more or started maybe with the Matthew chapter 13.
Jesus's Parables and Understanding God's Word
00:00:40
Speaker
I wanted to speak a little bit more on Jesus's fulfillment of the speaking in parables.
00:00:47
Speaker
It was really on my heart to include this. And so rather than make the 31 minute video any longer, i decided, you know what, I'm just going to make a supplementary video for those who are hungry for God's word and who are looking for a little bit more in today and don't mind listening to a little longer.
00:01:04
Speaker
So when we read the parable in Matthew 13, And we said ah we read that ah I tell you that many a prophet and righteous person long to see what you are seeing and did not see and to hear what you are hearing and did not hear.
00:01:22
Speaker
And he goes on to say, you then hear the parable of the sower. When anyone hears the word of the kingdom and doesn't understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what was sown in his heart.
00:01:37
Speaker
This is the one having been sown along the road. The one sown on rocky ground, this is the one who hears the word and immediately receives it with joy.
Parable of the Weeds and Wheat
00:01:48
Speaker
Yet he has no root himself, but lasts only a short while. And when trouble or persecution comes because of the word, immediately he falls away.
00:02:00
Speaker
But the one sown among the thorns, this is the one who hears the word and the worries of the world and the seduction of wealth choke the word and it becomes unfruitful.
00:02:13
Speaker
Now the one sown on the good soil, this is the one who hears the word and understands. He indeed bears fruit yielding a hundredfold, some 60, some 30 times what was sown.
00:02:29
Speaker
He presented to them another parable, saying, The kingdom of heaven is like a man who sowed good seed in his field. But while the men were sleeping, his enemy came and sowed weeds among the wheat and went away.
00:02:42
Speaker
Now when the stock sprouted and produced grain, then the weeds also appeared. So the slaves of the landowner came and said to him, Master, didn't you sow good seed in your field?
00:02:57
Speaker
Then where did the weeds come from? But he replied, an enemy did this.
00:03:05
Speaker
Now the slaves say to him, do you want us then to go out and gather them up? But he says, no, for a while, for while you are gathering up the weeds, you may uproot the wheat that is with them.
00:03:19
Speaker
Let both grow together until the harvest, and at harvest time I will tell the reapers, First gather up the weeds and tie them into bundles and burn them up, but gather the wheat into my barn.
Mustard Seed, Yeast, and Kingdom Growth
00:03:35
Speaker
He presented to them another parable, saying, The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed, which a man took and planted in his field. It's the smallest of all seeds, yet when it's grown, it's greater than the other herbs.
00:03:51
Speaker
It becomes like a tree so that the birds of the air come and nest in its branches.
00:04:02
Speaker
He told them another parable. The kingdom of heaven is like yeast, which a woman took and hid in three measures of flour until it all leavened.
00:04:13
Speaker
All these things Jesus spoke to the crowd in parables. And apart from a parable, he wasn't speaking to them. In order to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet saying, I will open my mouth in parables.
00:04:29
Speaker
I will utter things hidden since the foundations of the world. And that is a quote from Psalm 78, verse 2. where it says, I will open my mouth with a parable.
00:04:41
Speaker
I will utter perplexing things from of old.
Purpose of Parables and Bearing Fruit
00:04:45
Speaker
So here we see that Jesus is telling them and and Matthew is recording that whenever he spoke to the crowds, he only spoke in parables.
00:04:56
Speaker
And that was because those who would have the ears to hear would understand what he was saying. And those who did not have the ears to hear simply wouldn't understand what was going on.
00:05:11
Speaker
So it's very important that for those of us who do understand these parables and who do hear what God is telling us and those of us who see what God is showing us, that we bear fruit in him and that we stay strong in him and he will grow us and we are meant for him.
00:05:36
Speaker
Let me see all of these things. Then and he is he goes on to explain the parables a little bit more. He said, then he sent the crowds away and went into the house.
00:05:47
Speaker
His disciples came to him saying, explain to us the parable of the weeds in the field. And he answered, the one sowing the good seed is the son of man and the field is the world.
Deeper Meaning and Separation of Righteousness
00:06:02
Speaker
and the good seed, these are the sons of the kingdom, and the weeds are the sons of the evil one. The enemy who sowed the weeds is the devil, and the harvest at the end of the age, and the reapers are angels.
00:06:20
Speaker
Therefore, just as the weeds are gathered up and burned with fire, so shall it be at the end of the age. The son of man will send forth his angels and they will gather out of his kingdom all stumbling blocks and those who practice lawlessness.
00:06:36
Speaker
Now that is actually a reference also used in 1 Corinthians 1, 23.
00:06:43
Speaker
It says, but we proclaim Messiah crucified, a stumbling block to Jewish people and foolishness to Gentile people. So they are quoting Jesus there that Jesus ah spoke about that.
00:07:01
Speaker
They will be thrown into the fiery furnace and in that place there will be weep weeping and gnashing of teeth. Then the righteous will shine forth as the sun
00:07:12
Speaker
Also ah referencing that. See.
00:07:23
Speaker
That first Corinthians, they reference that there as well. In that place will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. Then the righteous will shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their father.
00:07:34
Speaker
He who has ears, let him hear.
Old and New Testament Treasures
00:07:44
Speaker
At the end in verse 51, after he tells another parable or two, he says, have you understood all these things? And they said to him, yes. Then Jesus said to them, therefore, every Torah scholar, that's the law, discipled for the kingdom of heaven is like the master of a household who brings out of his treasure, both new things and old.
00:08:11
Speaker
Meaning that The things that God taught in the Old Testament are now being seen fulfilled in Jesus. And just as the law was a treasure written upon them to to obey and be set apart by God's commandments, now this new covenant with Jesus was like a new treasure because God was fulfilling what he had said. And it is a new treasure for it is to be understood by those who are schooled.
00:08:42
Speaker
in the Old Testament. And that's another reason why it's very important for us to learn about the festivals and the commandments that God has given us, such as ah we think of the commandments God has given us as just the Ten Commandments.
00:08:56
Speaker
In Christianity, that tends to be all that is taught, and it is really neglecting the old laws that God has given us, such as the counting of the Omer, the following of the festivals, which we just simply dismiss in most Christianity as being fulfilled by Jesus. And so they are no longer necessary to observe, but they are to be observed.
00:09:18
Speaker
They are to be observed forever because they point the way to being fulfilled in Jesus, which like I said, we already know that now, but that we are meant to understand and bring forth treasures from that are old and treasures that are new.
00:09:35
Speaker
There is a great deal of importance and it's greatly important to understand God's word, not just to simply read it, but to understand it and see the application that God has for every single person in our daily lives.
Significance of Shavuot (Pentecost)
00:09:51
Speaker
So we have this festival that we are coming up with, Shavuot, which in the New Testament they they call Pentecost, which even now Messianic Jews don't refer to as Pentecost. That is a Christian term.
00:10:03
Speaker
It just means 50. But it really would be more accurate to call it Shavuot because that is the day that is actually commemorating.
00:10:14
Speaker
God gave us these appointed times and seasons so that we could understand what he was going to be doing in the future. And we've actually read a couple of times in our readings that God doesn't do things without telling us first.
00:10:28
Speaker
God actually tells what he's going to do before he does it. He doesn't surprise us. He says what he's going to do, and it's up to us to believe in it in the same way that Abraham believed God and it was credited to him as righteousness.
00:10:44
Speaker
But Jesus says that, therefore every Torah scholar means one who has studied the law and discipled for the kingdom of heaven is like the master of a household who brings out his treasure, both new out of his treasure, both new things and old.
00:11:05
Speaker
It is important to have the old treasures too and to understand why we have the new treasures. So I wanted to include that. It was very important. It was definitely on my heart today that God really wanted me to make that known.
00:11:18
Speaker
But I am including it in this supplemental video so that ah for those who have ears to hear and eyes to to see and who are hungry for God's word, that you may see and hear and have understanding and that the fruit, the the the seed that God is growing in you may bear mature fruit.
00:11:38
Speaker
in his kingdom for him.
Encouragement to Share God's Word
00:11:40
Speaker
So thank you very much. In the same as the other videos, if you have enjoyed this video and feel like God has lit your light, please click that light button.
00:11:48
Speaker
It is helpful to other people who are looking for God's word, who are seeking. And we know that if we are seeking God, we will find him. And ah I just wanted to encourage us to light those lights, put them high on a hill,
00:12:03
Speaker
and help others be drawn to God's word, because reading and understanding God's word is of paramount importance to hearing and and seeing and understanding and knowing.
00:12:15
Speaker
So thank you so much for watching this additional supplementary video, and I will be here for everyone again tomorrow.
