Today's reading includes Isaiah Chapters 1-2. Today we will read about prophecy from Isaiah telling us about the forgiveness of sins washing us as white as snow, the time of God's great judgment on the Earth when He will bring down the people who are proud, and about the 1,000 years of peace when Jesus will rule from Jerusalem and God himself will be teaching people how to do right. We will also read about God being fed up with people hurting each other and admonishing us to do what is right. Isaiah tells us that following God is like walking in light. God's Word is a lamp to our feet and a light to our paths. Let's spread the Word about Reading God's Word! We will be encouraged that when we follow God and do what is right He will reward us by eating the best food of the land. We will remember King Uzziah, who tried to make God happy, and so God brought good things to him. Let us all be encouraged to be doing good and working hard to do what is right when Jesus returns. Jesus taught us that it is good for the servant to be seen doing his work when the master returns.

00:00:03
Speaker
Shalom everybody. This is my very late recording as usual on a Saturday. Today is May 24th for just a few more minutes. And I am here for you for our daily Bible reading.
00:00:18

Sabbath Reflections

00:00:33
Speaker
Thank you for your patience and your grace. As you know that on Saturday, I am usually out and about all day. This is our Sabbath and our fun day, my husband and me. So we get home very late and then we spend some additional time together and it was a really great day.
00:00:49
Speaker
and then and just getting down to the recording part, it just took me some extra time to get there tonight. But I'm still sprightly and energetic and ready to do this reading.

Memorial Weekend and Commitment

00:01:01
Speaker
And I'm also excited to do it as well. So thank you for joining me. We've been having a lot of views lately so that it makes me feel feel a little bit guilty for getting it out so late today.
00:01:12
Speaker
So I'm sorry that it is so very late and you're not able to enjoy it on Saturday. But thank you for being faithful and listening to it on whatever day you get a chance to listen to it on this Memorial weekend.
00:01:25
Speaker
We are going to take out our commitment calendar. So if you are following along on your commitment calendar, go ahead and get that out and your sticker or however you're marking it off because you're about to hear the Bible today.
00:01:41
Speaker
I love this little commitment calendar. It's just a little motivational tool. And it doesn't matter what day you mark it off, if you've been listening along and following along, and you listen to today's reading on whatever day.
00:01:54
Speaker
i mean, you see, I'm getting it out every day, but it's very late, so nobody's going to actually be able to listen to it today. i won't even get it posted until technically Sunday morning. So don't worry about what day you actually get around to listening to it.

00:02:31
Speaker
they are The counts climb as the first several days in a row. and So we're all catching up. So thank you for catching up whatever day you have a chance. And I know you guys are almost done with school for those of you with family and kids that are following along.
00:02:47
Speaker

00:02:58
Speaker
You're going to make it. You're doing a great job.

Reading from Isaiah

00:03:02
Speaker
We are going to be reading in the book of Isaiah today, Isaiah chapter 1 and 2.
00:03:09
Speaker
And but ah you may be familiar that the book of Isaiah contains a lot of prophecy about our Savior. So God is going to speak a little bit ah through Isaiah about ah our washing of sins, making us white as snow.
00:03:29
Speaker
And there will also be some ah talk about the last days. But he's also talking about ah the people's sins that are occurring right now.
00:03:41
Speaker
And we've been reading a lot about that, that the, the times ah of their sinning is just really increasing there. There is a lot of, lack of empathy, lack of caring for others.
00:03:56
Speaker
There is a lot of dishonesty when people are selling. There's a lot of high prices and high interest rates going on where people are becoming more and more poor and the rich are becoming more and more rich.
00:04:10
Speaker
And we we do see that even in today's society as well, that we're finding that that is coming. So we want to be mindful and and really look for where we feel God is calling us for our daily application.
00:04:24
Speaker
So we are, I just wanted to give you that little bit of a preface there so that we have perspective as we open up God's word and prepare to read the book of Isaiah.
00:04:36
Speaker
The first section for chapter one is entitled, The Ox Nose.
00:04:43
Speaker
These are the pictures God put in Isaiah's mind. Isaiah was a prophet when Uzziah was king of Judah.
00:04:53
Speaker
And Isaiah told God's plans. isaiah saw when i sorry When Isaiah saw the pictures, he heard God talk too. and Isaiah told God's plans.
00:05:07
Speaker
Isaiah was still a prophet when Jotham was king of Judah, and later Ahaz and Hezekiah were kings of Judah. Isaiah was still a prophet then.
00:05:19
Speaker
Hear this, sky. Listen, earth. God has taught. I trained my children, but they turned against me. The ox knows who his master is.
00:05:33
Speaker
The donkey knows where its owner feeds it. But my people don't know. My people don't understand. the nation of The nation of Israel is sinful.
00:05:47
Speaker
The people have done wrong. They are bad children. They have left God. Your gifts don't mean anything, says God.
00:06:00
Speaker
I have more than enough gifts. That is not what makes me happy. I can't stand it when you get together and sin. I hate your parties for me.
00:06:12
Speaker
They are like a heavy load for me to carry. You hold out your hands to pray to me, but you hurt people. Make your hearts clean again.
00:06:24
Speaker
Get rid of the wrong you do. Get it out of my sight. Stop doing what is wrong. Learn to do what is right.
00:06:35
Speaker
Help people who have been put down. Speak up for children who don't have fathers. Help women whose husbands have died. Come on, let us think about this together.
00:06:51
Speaker
Your sins may seem to be as red as blood, but you'll be made as clean as white snow. Your sins may be as red as red can be, but you will be made as clean as white wool.
00:07:07
Speaker
Do you want to follow me? Do you want to obey? Then you will eat the best food from your land. But what if you won't follow me?
00:07:20
Speaker
What if you won't obey? Then you will be killed in battles.
00:07:27
Speaker
See the city that used to obey God? Now that city has turned away from God. The people there used to do what was fair and right, but now they don't.
00:07:41
Speaker
So God says, I'll pay them back for what they have done. I'll get rid of the sinful hearts.
00:07:52
Speaker
I'll get rid of what's wrong. Then people will call you the city of what's right. They will call you the city that always obeys God.
00:08:09
Speaker
what Isaiah saw about the kingdom of Judah and the kingdom and the city of Jerusalem. In the last days, God will make his mountain the most important, and that's where his worship house will be.
00:08:25
Speaker
God's mountain will be high above the hills and all the nations will come to it. The people will say, come on, let's go to God's worship house and he will teach us about his ways and that way we can obey him.
00:08:42
Speaker
God's word will come from Jerusalem. He will say who is right and who is wrong. And people will turn their swords into farm tools.
00:08:54
Speaker
They'll turn their spears into garden tools. And nations won't fight each other anymore. So come, you people of God, and let's live God's way.
00:09:07
Speaker
It's like walking in light. God, the Lord, he has all power. He is planning a day for everyone who is proud.
00:09:19
Speaker
It's a day for people who think they're great. Then they will see They are not great. Only God will be great in that day.
00:09:32
Speaker
The idols will be gone. People will run away to caves. They'll run to tunnels. They'll be scared of God. They'll be scared of his greatness.
00:09:46
Speaker
He will get up to shake the earth and then people will throw their idols away and they'll throw them to the rats and bats.

Call to Righteousness

00:09:56
Speaker
And that's the end of our reading today.
00:10:01
Speaker
Did you see a lot of the prophecy for the end times? For when God comes for his thousand year reign of peace? First, it talks about the great day of judgment, where that day is the day that he is planning for everyone who is proud.
00:10:18
Speaker
It's a day for people who think they are great. But only God will be great on that day.
00:10:27
Speaker
And everybody will be washed white as snow when Jesus came, which he did. But we have to believe in him as our savior. It doesn't just happen. You have to accept that Jesus is our savior so that we can be filled with the Holy Spirit.
00:10:43
Speaker
And then we also have the responsibility of learning to do what is right from him, where he puts the law in our heart with the Holy Spirit. And that's part of what our daily application has been lately, is to do what is right.
00:10:58
Speaker
It may seem very repetitive and like, oh, don't we have something new? But you see how frequently God is telling us this? Remember, this particular version of the Bible is written chronologically.
00:11:11
Speaker
So we're not just reading the same thing over and over for no reason. We're reading it because this is what God kept telling his people over and over again.
00:11:22
Speaker
giving them warning, telling them what was going to happen. and we know that God desires mercy more than he desires sacrifice. And he wants no one to perish, but he wants everyone to come to him.
00:11:36
Speaker
And even in those last days, people can still come to him, we read. There will come a time when Jesus returns and there will be a thousand years of peace.
00:11:48
Speaker
and God will reign and his mountain will be the most important. And that's where his worship house will be. And that is Jerusalem. And the temple will be rebuilt there.
00:12:00
Speaker
And in case you don't know, preparations are underway because things like red heifers have been born and they're very rare and to be born without blemish. So there are things happening in the world that are actually showing that we are closer to these times than we have ever been.
00:12:20
Speaker
Not simply because one day is closer than the next, but because there are signs happening that these days are coming. And Jesus tells us that it is good for him, for the master to find the servant working when he returns.
00:12:37
Speaker
So we want to be sure that we are doing what we are supposed to be doing. What are we supposed to be doing? Well, it says, make your hearts clean.
00:12:49
Speaker
Get rid of the wrong you do. Stop doing what's wrong. Learn to do what is right. Help people who have been put down.
00:13:01
Speaker
Speak up for children who don't have fathers. Help women whose husbands have died.
00:13:09
Speaker
God says, let's think about this together. do you want to follow me? do you want to obey? but when then you'll eat the best food from your land.
00:13:24
Speaker
So come you people of God, let's live God's way. It's like walking in light. We know that we have read that God's word is lamp to our feet and the light to our path.
00:13:38
Speaker
And that's one of the big reasons why we want to spread the word about reading God's word along with for this event.
00:13:48
Speaker
God, the Lord has all power. I love how God always promises that doing right isn't just for nothing. It isn't just because he wants us to do what is right.
00:14:00
Speaker
He rewards those who do what is right. He says, do you want to follow me? Do you want to obey? Then you will eat the best food from your land. God always is so gracious and loving.
00:14:14
Speaker
He even provides rewards for doing what is right. Do you remember King Uzziah when he first became king? King Uzziah, when he was 16 years old, he did what was right.
00:14:29
Speaker
He looked for ways to make God happy. So God brought good things to him. When we look to do what is right, and when we look to make God happy, God brings good things to us.
00:14:46
Speaker
Our God is so generous and so loving and so kind. He rewards us whenever we do what is right. eight He doesn't just say, congratulations, now do more.
00:15:00
Speaker
He he ah wants us to do what is right, but he rewards us for doing so. That is so gracious of him. So,
00:15:11
Speaker
Our that's again our daily application is to make sure that we are doing what is right in preparation for his return, no matter how far off it may be, because no man knows the day, but God is coming.

Spreading the Message

00:15:26
Speaker
And we are closer today than when Isaiah first wrote this. 700 years or so before Jesus was born.
00:15:36
Speaker
So I hope that you are encouraged by our reading today and you feel like God has lit your light. And if you have, then I ask that you consider clicking that follow button or the subscribe button.
00:15:52
Speaker
and clicking the light button when you get done. It looks like a thumbs up, it looks like a heart, but it's really a light button. Let's shine our lights so that people can be aware that they need to stop doing wrong and start doing what is right, to follow God, to accept Jesus as their savior so that they can be washed white as snow and their sins can be forgiven.
00:16:18
Speaker
And then we can learn how to do what is right and know that it isn't just attending church that God is looking for. ah God wants our hearts and he wants us to do what is right.
00:16:30
Speaker
And he will reward us for doing so. So I hope that you have a great rest of your day, whatever day you get around to listening to this reading for today. And I will be here for everyone again tomorrow.
00:16:43
Speaker
Have a great root weekend, everybody.
