Daily Bible Reading with Robin at In the Family Way Coaching (Audio only)

Thank you for joining me as we learn about the connection between  Passover, First Fruits, Shavuot (pronounced shav-oo-oat) and Pentecost.  As part of understanding and observing the festivals that God has  appointed for us to observe, we count the Omer (pronounced oh-mare)  today and then have our daily Bible reading session!

Here is the link for a downloadable devotional if you would like to  count the Omer for yourself. It has been put out by the Messianic Jewish  Congregation Shoresh David in Florida: https://www.shoreshdavid.org/download/counting-the-omer-booklet/

Today's reading covers 2 Kings Chapter 10-11 and 2 Chronicles 22:7-12. Today we have an incredible update on God returning my necklace to me! Praise God! Thank you, Lord! Baruch HaShem, Blessed be God! Today's reading will continue with Jehu carrying out God's judgment on the family of Ahab for all the murders of prophets Jezebel committed during King Ahab's reign and for the death of Naboth so that King Ahab could take his field. In our discussion for daily application we will talk about the importance of letting God be the one to carry out revenge for the things people do to us and for the hurt they cause us. We will read Romans Chapter 12:14-21, where Paul writes in verse 19: "Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leae room for God's wrath, for it is written: "It is mine to avenge; I will repay, says the LORD." Deuteronomy 32:35. Instead, Paul writes, we are to repay evil with kindness, feeding our enemy if he is hungry, giving him water if he is thirsty, and thereby heap burning coals on his head. We are encouraged not to be overcome by evil, but to overcome evil with good.

Counting the Omer and Personal Story

00:00:16
Speaker
We are here for our daily counting of the Yomer. We are here for our daily Bible reading, and we are here for some praise for God today. We are reading through the Day-by-Day Kids Bible, which has been written by Karen Henley.
00:00:34
Speaker
And if you are following along on your commitment calendar, go ahead and get that out in your sticker and however or however you are marking off that calendar, because you're about to hear the Bible today.
00:00:47
Speaker
Thank you so much for joining me, whether you are following along on your favorite podcast or whether you are watching on video somewhere. I am so glad that you are here for this event, and I bet today you are going to be glad you are here too.
00:01:02
Speaker
We are going to start off with our obedience to God in our daily counting of the Omer. If you would like to count the Omer with me, please repeat after me and then you too will have counted the Omer.
00:01:18
Speaker
Blessed are you, o Lord our God, ruler of the universe, who has set us apart by your commandments and has commanded us to count the Omer.
00:01:38
Speaker
to Today is the fourth day of the fifth week and day 32.
00:01:49
Speaker
I have counted the Omer.
00:01:56
Speaker
Well, today have a wonderful praise report for us. As you may have seen from the picture in the description. I got so excited and i'm in diligent. I already put it away.
00:02:10
Speaker
God has indeed floated the axe head.
00:02:17
Speaker
God has returned my necklace to me.
00:02:22
Speaker
And here it is. I'm not wearing it at the moment because I'm going to take it into the jeweler and have them do something about the clasp. I believe that it is falling out through the clasp. I think that there is too much space. And although I cannot make it come out, no matter what I do, I cannot make it come out of the ah the little notch in the clasp.
00:02:45
Speaker
I tried. I cannot make it come out. But there is a gap in the clasp, and I believe that that is possible where it fell out and fell off of me.
00:02:59
Speaker
So i will tell you that It did not fall into a package as I was suspicious of. It did fall to the floor, but not at my station.
00:03:11
Speaker
I was in a different area of the building where I was working later on that day, um or ah maybe ah ah yeah during where my where I had taken my break.
00:03:24
Speaker
ah But at any rate, it was found on the floor by another associate. who ah was a ah level one manager.
00:03:35
Speaker
And so they had access to a cupboard where they put it in this particular department in order to keep it safe because they weren't sure what to do with it or where to take it or who to tell.
00:03:50
Speaker
So when I went up to them yesterday, which by the way, I got to tell you, you know, it, it's It's just, it's so hard sometimes I feel like, but I guess it shouldn't be at this point, that what the world might call intuition, that is what God's speaking to you can feel like.
00:04:10
Speaker
It can feel like intuition, where you just have what we would call a gut feeling, where you feel like you need to do something. You feel like you should do something, or you feel like you should say something, or you feel like you should approach a particular person.
00:04:25
Speaker
And I work with this person ah a number of days last week. So God gave me all these opportunities to talk to this person. And I kept thinking about it saying, oh, I should talk to this person and and tell them that I've lost my necklace.
00:04:40
Speaker
And for some reason, I just didn't. I was like, oh, I don't wanna talk to them about it. Oh, I don't want to bring it up to them. What are they going to do?
00:04:52
Speaker
you know But I was trying at this point for people to keep their eyes open for where they send people for returns. And I figured it would take a number of days for somebody to put in a claim that they had received something with their package that they did not order.
00:05:11
Speaker
And by the way, if you ever do happen to receive an Amazon package with somebody's personal belonging in it, there is a place where you can go into your account, the same place where you would process to return something.
00:05:25
Speaker
And there is an option that says, I received something in my order that I did not order. So if, for instance, you receive even an additional item that you did not order and it got placed into your bag by mistake or into your box by mistake, you ah have the ability to do the honest thing and return it to Amazon saying, I received this, but I didn't order it, meaning I didn't pay for this. Somebody accidentally put this in my package.
00:05:57
Speaker
And so I just want to encourage us to be honest on that account is that if we receive something because they're they're human beings like me and like you, and sometimes a mistake can be made and um And sometimes ah ah an item might get into your package that you did not order.
00:06:14
Speaker
So that's what I was expecting to happen. And so I was expecting ah this person to then designate somebody to be at the returns location in our building.
00:06:25
Speaker
And I just wanted them to ah pass along the information that if a customer had returned my necklace, in a bag that they would know where it went to.
00:06:38
Speaker
It went to me. So that way the person was was not like, what the heck is this doing in here? Why are they sending us back a necklace? And then not finding a number for it, you know, ah a UPC code for it or anything.
00:06:52
Speaker
And so I went up to the person and she was with another higher level manager. and And I said, hey, ladies, I just wanted to let you know, last week I lost my necklace.
00:07:05
Speaker
And i I wanted you to keep an eye out. And before I'd even gotten many words out, the person immediately said, you lost a necklace? What does it look like?
00:07:16
Speaker
And so I proceeded to try to describe it. But before I even got that far, she was telling me, I found a necklace last week. And I put it in the cupboard over here.
00:07:27
Speaker
And I said, you did? And she said, yes, I found it days ago. But I didn't know where to put it. I didn't know what to do with it or who to take it to. And I just put it back here for safekeeping.
00:07:39
Speaker
She said, is it possible that it belongs to you? Come and look. So I did. it was my necklace. Had I listened to that gut feeling that that God was telling me, it's the same type of feeling that he gave me when when I had that feeling that when i when he said, you're going to lose your necklace.
00:08:02
Speaker
And And i was I was just like, oh, I'm going to lose my necklace. and And then when I did lose it and he gave me such assurance, such i was very convicted that he really just made me feel like I was going to get it back.
00:08:18
Speaker
So if I was able to have that faith in him, i did not have faith in myself that ah that what I was hearing then when I needed to go speak to this person days ago and tell them,
00:08:33
Speaker
ah about what was going on, that I had lost it. and And the Bible does say to bear one another's sins, but we do bear with one another in in grievance too.
00:08:45
Speaker
So, and I know that this woman is a believer, but ah I just, for for some reason, i just didn't. And I've had other experiences like that too, where for instance, when I wanted, I shared with you ah ah quite some time ago that I had, I kept having the feeling that i needed to read the Beatitudes.
00:09:08
Speaker
And and it God kept putting it on my mind and putting it on my heart and putting it on my heart and putting it on my mind. And and I just wasn't doing it. And mean the reason I hadn't done it yet is because I needed to actually look up. I didn't know where they were located. So when I don't when i know a partial verse and I want to look it up and I don't know where it comes from, ah because I'm not good at memorizing the address, I will do a internet search for the part of the verse that I do know.
00:09:36
Speaker
And then it will bring it up and then I'm able to click on it and look it up in the Bible. And so I just hadn't done that. But I went through this for, I don't know, a couple of weeks one time.
00:09:47
Speaker
And then I got into church one morning and there was no more bulletins available. There were no more bulletins available. So I picked up a used one that I found lying about.
00:10:01
Speaker
And somebody had written a Bible verse on it, an address, not the verse, but written an address on it. And I was so cut curious. That just made me very, very curious.
00:10:13
Speaker
I looked it up and it was the Beatitudes. And I just started laughing right then and there. So God goes to extraordinary lengths to get our attention.
00:10:28
Speaker
Look at this verse. Read it. Here is the verse. Read it. Here's the address. Read it. and i And in that same way, I feel like he did the same thing where I kept feeling like, oh, I should mention it to her. So I finally did.
00:10:44
Speaker
And when I did, she immediately took me to the necklace. And God had brought another believer to my necklace to locate it.
00:10:57
Speaker
So my sister in Christ had located my necklace and she just didn't know. And I don't think that it's any coincidence that she just didn't know where to put it. God needed me to know. I needed to listen to him.
00:11:09
Speaker
And I had faith in him, but I wasn't obeying that nagging feeling that I needed to go talk with her and tell her. i don't know why I wasn't. I just and just didn't want to or something.
00:11:23
Speaker
But when I finally did, There was my necklace and I said, where did you find it? And she said it was on the ground. I saw it and I picked it up.
00:11:34
Speaker
So I wanted to share that with everybody. And I am so thankful. I immediately called my husband and told him my necklace has been found. God has returned it to me. I immediately went to loss prevention because he had just come up to me this morning, that morning, yesterday morning.
00:11:51
Speaker
and And I said, oh, Sean, are you coming to give me any update or any news? And he said, well, yes and no. I wanted to tell you that um I am still, I reviewed the tape and and I could definitely see where you are not wearing it, but I cannot find the point where it fell off.
00:12:09
Speaker
And I've been talking about it at the beginning meeting of of the day where I let the leadership know that this is what we're I'm doing, that I am still looking, that we she definitely lost it at some point.
00:12:20
Speaker
And um so they they were doing what they could, but it wasn't up to them. it God had already kept it safe and um and And so i i I told him, thank you for your diligence. Thank you for ah doing this and looking.
00:12:36
Speaker
And then as soon as I found it or but as soon as it was returned to me, ah i went up and was showing him that he said, no way.
00:12:47
Speaker
And I said, yes way. I said, I told you God was going to return this necklace to me. And I went upstairs and I told leadership and I told other people and and i had just been speaking with my teammate who was on the other side, who was packing for me and I was picking it yesterday.
00:13:06
Speaker
And i had been telling her about my necklace being lost. And i told her that I had faith that God was going to return it. And, she's a believer.
00:13:17
Speaker
And, and I said, and she said to me, she says, well, good luck. She said, I'm a realist and and I don't believe it's going to happen. And I said, but don't you have faith in God?
00:13:28
Speaker
And she said, well, yeah, I have faith in God, but I have faith in being a realist too. and And she said, good luck to that happening. So I saw her her way back to the station after break.
00:13:39
Speaker
And I said, are you prepared to worship the Lord our God and praise him? And she said, what? And I said, and she said, you were right. No, not me. I wasn't right.
00:13:52
Speaker
God was faithful.
00:13:55
Speaker
God gave me that reassurance. He gave me his shalom. He gave me his peace. And I kept saying over and over, why else would i have peace? Peace that transcends all understanding.
00:14:07
Speaker
How could I have that if it was not given to me by God? It wasn't me. It was God. So I want to praise him and thank him mightily And I will be telling people this magnificent story of God's faithfulness and provision and grace and mercy for the rest of my life.
00:14:29
Speaker
And I want to encourage you to bring everything to God, no matter how big or how small. We can bring it to him. And just like that axe head floated for Elisha,
00:14:44
Speaker
And that that my rabbi told me, as soon as I told him the story, and he told me the axe head will float. and i And I thought about it, and I told you i that I did. And I said, yes, this is another sign. God is speaking to me.
00:14:57
Speaker
So yeah this is what it looks like. We don't know whom God will speak to us through or when. But was he not so faithful to give me reassurance upon reassurance?
00:15:09
Speaker
that this feeling that that that transcended, that peace that transcended all understanding was from him and that it was real and that we could know what it meant. It's not just that God was working good, but God gave me that feeling and I shared that I was convicted that he would absolutely return that necklace And when God sends those messages, we can know what it means.
00:15:34
Speaker
We have to have faith and listen to God and know what he is telling us. Even if other people, believe me, everybody kept telling me this was not going to happen. ah They made comments like people are evil and no someone's not going to return it even if they get it.
00:15:51
Speaker
And I said, but yes, but some people are good. Some people are trying to do good in the world. We are the light in the world. We are trying to do good in the world.
00:16:03
Speaker
And this person was a believer, is a believer who found it. and And I don't believe that that's an accident. So let this be a story that you remember to have faith in God, to trust God when he is giving you messages.
00:16:22
Speaker
to listen, listen to God's voice. I need to listen better because if I had listened better, this story would have ended sooner and I would have had it back sooner.
00:16:35
Speaker
Someone said, asked me yesterday when I told them that God told me. I don't believe that they know God. And they said, well, how did he tell you? Was it like in a dream? how did he How did he tell you?
00:16:47
Speaker
And so I was trying to explain to her how he had told me, like with the ax head and and how he gave me peace and how what we would describe it in the world as ah gut feeling or intuition, but that it was very, very strong.
00:17:02
Speaker
I just knew that this was the way it was going to be and it wasn't wishful thinking. It wasn't just hope. i had I had absolute conviction and faith that God was going to do it and I didn't know how or when, but I just knew that he would and he did.
00:17:20
Speaker
So thank you. Forgive me for going on for so long about it.

Transition to Bible Reading

00:17:23
Speaker
I know this is taking up our time for our daily Bible reading today. But i really just had to be very thorough and share all of that with you.
00:17:32
Speaker
And thank you so much for listening. Thank you. I'm sure some of you prayed for me about this necklace and to see God return it. And thank you so much for that. I appreciate your prayers and following along to see the next event of what happened, how God was going to resolve it. We didn't know when. It could have been years from now.
00:17:51
Speaker
And I knew that was a possibility. But ah I am so thankful that God returned it so quickly.
00:18:02
Speaker
So thank you for following along with me and sharing in my joy and and bearing my burden with me. That's what the word I was trying to think of earlier, that we're to bear one another's burdens.
00:18:14
Speaker
um And for some reason, I didn't want to burden her with my burden or something. And and I should have, because I would have had it returned sooner.
00:18:24
Speaker
Okay, well, we are going to be picking up in 2 Kings chapters 10 and 11 through 11 verse 3 and 2 Chronicles, actually chapter 11 all the way through verse 21, which I think is most of the chapter, if not all.
00:18:43
Speaker
And then 2 Chronicles chapter 22 verses 7 through I spent quite a bit of time this morning trying to figure out again the genealogies and and who from who because a lot of these names in the Bible, and especially in this particular family line are so similar.
00:19:02
Speaker
i was confused with some of the names trying to understand who was who and when. And where? and we Literally where?
00:19:14
Speaker
Judah, Jerusalem, or Israel, and who was married to who? and And I say this one day, and then sometimes I forget because I got to be honest with you, names are not my strong point.
00:19:26
Speaker
In daily life, I struggle to remember people's names. terrible When I was younger, i had such a difficult time remembering people's names.
00:19:38
Speaker
I'm talking like in my teens and in my twenties, and I'm 48 now. I had so much trouble remembering people's names. Even then, when I was a teenager and in my early twenties, I would just give people another name.
00:19:52
Speaker
I would just rename them and say, no, that's yeah not your name. I'm going to call you this. And I remember being like or my early twenties. And at some point argued with somebody over their name.
00:20:03
Speaker
and And God told me, hello, hello. You can't argue with them about their name. What was I doing? And I stopped doing that from that point on, renaming people. It just wasn't right.
00:20:17
Speaker
wasn't It was just kind of weird. So anyway, that's my my thing is that I have trouble with names. So I want us to understand what is going on as we read.
00:20:29
Speaker
So it's very important to understand ah because it doesn't do us any good to just read it and say, okay, I read it. What good does that do? The whole purpose of listening to this event every day or ah this year is to not just read God's word, but to understand the big story from Genesis to Revelation.
00:20:52
Speaker
If we don't have understanding, then we have wasted our time. If we are not learning anything from it, we are wasting our time. And I do not want to waste your time, nor my time for that matter.
00:21:07
Speaker
So I was spending time this morning trying to figure out who was who and what was what.

Summary of Biblical Kings

00:21:13
Speaker
So I'm going to give us a little bit of a recap so that we understand what it is we're reading.
00:21:19
Speaker
We had King Jehoshaphat of Judah. Judah the Southern kingdom where it consists of only two tribes, two of the 12. The rest of the 10,
00:21:36
Speaker
were split up and called Israel. That I'm sure we don't have difficulty remembering. This was done because of Saul. God split the kingdom because of Saul and his sin.
00:21:51
Speaker
So King Jehoshaphat of Judah died and his son Jehoram became the next king. Jehoram married the daughter of Israel's King Ahab.
00:22:07
Speaker
Ahab was the very first King of Israel who deliberately led Israel astray from God in order to keep people from leaving and going to worship at the holy times down in Judah where the temple was located.
00:22:26
Speaker
So je Jehoram was considered a bad king, just like the kings of Israel. He sinned and he led God's people in Judah to sin. And that's because when his father Jehoshaphat had died, he no longer had wise counsel.
00:22:41
Speaker
In our big Bible, it tells us that his counsel now became the family in Israel. So he was listening to Jezebel,
00:22:53
Speaker
He was listening to the people um now on his um wife's side of the family. And we spoke about how we need to be careful of our relationships because it can have far-reaching consequences.
00:23:08
Speaker
And it can it's you know one bad apple spoils the bunch. And God had told them not to intermarry with people who worshiped false gods. Well, that's exactly what Judah had done, Judah the kingdom through Jehoram.
00:23:23
Speaker
Now, Jehoram was told he was not like his father, Jehoshaphat, he was like Ahab, and he has led the people to sin. So God was going to bring trouble to the people of Judah, and he was going to bring terrible trouble to his family.
00:23:40
Speaker
And he would get sick, and he would be so sick that his insides would come out. So we saw that happen. So he died and his Jeroboam son, I Hizia became the next king of Judah.
00:23:53
Speaker
These names are very similar to other names. Jeroboam son, I Hizia became the next king of Judah. Now that only lasted about one year, about one year, because during that time we have
00:24:20
Speaker
Jehu, who has been ah anointed to be the new king of Israel, and he is supposed to get rid of Ahab's family.
00:24:34
Speaker
He is supposed to kill the current king, who is Joram.
00:24:46
Speaker
Yes, Joram.
00:24:50
Speaker
And he is supposed to do that according to God because, let's see, I'm trying to find it.
00:25:01
Speaker
I choose you to be Israel's king, Joram. Get rid of all of Ahab's family. Do it because his wife, Jezebel, killed so many of my prophets.
00:25:13
Speaker
I will pay back the family of Ahab now.
00:25:18
Speaker
and dogs will eat Jezebel and no one will put her in a grave. And so we saw that happen yesterday. We saw that Jehu ah is in the process of killing Ahab's family.
00:25:35
Speaker
And we saw that Jezebel's body was nowhere to be found because the dogs had eaten it just as God said it would happen.
00:25:44
Speaker
So that is where we left off is that Elijah did tell God's words and he said that the dogs would eat Jezebel's body. And today we're going to pick up and see further carrying out of God's judgment against Ahab's family.
00:26:06
Speaker
Now Ahab had 70 sons and Jehu wrote letters to all the leaders. He wrote letters to people who helped Ahab's sons. He wrote, you can make one of Ahab's sons your king, and then you'll have to fight for him so he can stay the king.
00:26:25
Speaker
The people were very scared of Jehu, they said. And they said, he fought two kings and won. So how can we win against him? So the people sent a message back to Jehu.
00:26:37
Speaker
We serve you now and we'll do whatever you say. We will not choose another king. So do whatever you think you should do. Then Jehu wrote another letter.
00:26:49
Speaker
If you'll follow me, then do this. Kill Ahab's sons. So the people killed Ahab's sons. No one in Ahab's family was left.
00:27:05
Speaker
It happened just like God said it would. Jehu's men also found King Ahaziah from Judah. They killed him and some of his family too.
00:27:18
Speaker
Ahaziah had not been a good king. His mother, Athaliah, had taught him to do wrong.
00:27:26
Speaker
Athaliah found out that her son Ahaziah was dead. Remember, he was only king for one year. So she made plans to kill the rest of his family.
00:27:39
Speaker
But Ahaziah's sister found out that Athaliah was killing every male prince. So she hid Ahaziah's youngest baby, Prince Joash, in a bedroom.
00:27:52
Speaker
And then she moved him to the worship house because her husband was a priest. She hid the little prince for six years.
00:28:03
Speaker
And all that time, Athaliah ruled as queen. Now back in Israel, Jehu got all the people to together. And he said, Ahab worshiped Baal a little bit.
00:28:15
Speaker
I will worship Baal a lot. So bring all the people who worship Baal here. I'll kill any worshiper of Baal who doesn't come. Now Jehu was really tricking them.
00:28:29
Speaker
He planned to get rid of all those who worshiped Baal. Let's all get together to worship Baal, said Jehu. So all who worshiped Baal came, and there were so many that they filled Baal's worship house.
00:28:46
Speaker
Jehu put 80 men outside of that worship house. He said, don't let anyone get away. If you do, you will be killed.
00:28:57
Speaker
Inside the worship house, Jehu talked to the people. Make sure no one who worships God ah god is here, said Jehu. Then Jehu told the guards, kill all the people who worship Baal.
00:29:12
Speaker
So they killed the people with their swords. They tore down Baal's worship house, and the people began using it as a bathroom.
00:29:23
Speaker
That's the way Jehu got rid of the fake god Baal. But Jehu didn't obey God with his whole heart. He did not stop the worship of the gold calf idols.
00:29:35
Speaker
And so he seemed like Jeroboam.
00:29:38
Speaker
Jeroboam, I misspoke earlier. He was the first king of Israel ah who led everybody astray, not Ahab. My mistake on that. I'm sorry about that earlier. I misspoke.
00:29:50
Speaker
I told you I had a difficult time with names. ah Our last section is entitled, Tricking the Queen.

Joash's Kingship and God's Promise

00:30:00
Speaker
Back in Judah, Athaliah was queen, but the priest was hiding little Prince Joash.
00:30:08
Speaker
Six years went by, and the next year, the priest made a deal with the army officers. They went to all their towns, and they got the officers together.
00:30:21
Speaker
The officers came to Jerusalem, and the priest said, Prince Joash will become the next king. All the officers promised to follow King Joash.
00:30:34
Speaker
So the priest said, some of you watch the doors and some of you watch the queen's palace and some of you watch the gate and some of you watch the yards by the worship house.
00:30:45
Speaker
Let only the worship leaders go into the worship house. Your officers stand around the king. Hold your swords in your hands.
00:30:56
Speaker
Kill anybody else who comes into God's worship house. Stay by the king and go wherever he goes. So they did what the priest said, and he gave the officer swords and shields from the worship house.
00:31:11
Speaker
They once belonged to King David.
00:31:14
Speaker
Then the priest brought Joash out and put a crown on his head. The officer said he was the king now, and they shouted, Long live the king! Long live the king!
00:31:28
Speaker
Now Athalia heard all the shouting, so she went down to the worship house. There she saw the king. There the officers stood by him and horn players stood by him.
00:31:41
Speaker
People from all over sang praises. They blew horns and showed their joy. Athalia was so upset that she tore her clothes.
00:31:53
Speaker
She yelled, "'You've tricked me! "'You've turned against me!' Bring her away from the worship house, said the priest. Don't kill her here. So she left with the army around her, and she came to the horse gate at the palace yard, and that's where they killed her.
00:32:13
Speaker
King Joash was only seven years old. The priest made a promise. He said the people and Joash belong to God.
00:32:27
Speaker
The priest brought King Joash to the palace. King Joash sat on the king's throne. All the people showed their joy. Joash was a good king.
00:32:39
Speaker
He did what was right. And the priest was his teacher. And when Joash was a young king, the prophet Joel spoke. And we will read about him tomorrow.
00:32:54
Speaker
For today, that is the end of our reading.
00:32:59
Speaker
Wow, so we saw God carry out his judgment against all of Ahab's family. And you remember yesterday we spoke about God's timing, that we don't always know when God will do something, but we know that God's word is true and what he says he will do, he will absolutely carry out.
00:33:21
Speaker
And Ahaziah's sister,
00:33:28
Speaker
I did not write down her name, but his sister was married to a priest. Now, God said that he would keep somebody from David's family line on the throne forever.
00:33:44
Speaker
And Jesus came from David's family line. So what we see here is that God purged. He got rid of all the bad influence.
00:33:55
Speaker
over Israel, or over Judah, rather, excuse me. But that intermarrying that Jehoram did by marrying someone from Ahab's family, Athaliah, who was Jezebel's daughter.
00:34:11
Speaker
So we see that God cleaned it out, but he preserved one baby, just like Moses he preserved, to be the leader of God's people.
00:34:25
Speaker
And this prince is was of David's line. God kept his word and that God always keeps his word. God is true. If God says that it will happen, it will happen.
00:34:40
Speaker
He is faithful. He is honest. He is true and he is good. And he brought a godly leader back to the nation of Judah.

Revenge and Divine Justice

00:34:53
Speaker
But our daily application is going to be not to take revenge ourselves. Now remember why God cleaned everything out.
00:35:04
Speaker
It was because Jezebel had killed all so many of God's prophets and that her husband had taken Naboth's field and that she had killed Naboth.
00:35:19
Speaker
She had him killed so that the king could take it when God had promised that land to him.
00:35:27
Speaker
So our lesson today is not to take revenge ourselves. Just like King David did not take revenge on Saul when he was being chased and chased by Saul. He did not kill Saul.
00:35:44
Speaker
He was faithful, even though he had been anointed to be king. He was not king yet, but God told him that he would be, and he waited for God's timing. We spoke about that yesterday.
00:35:57
Speaker
We are not to take revenge on people ourselves, but instead we are to wait for God. Deuteronomy 32 verse 35 tells us that God will take revenge.
00:36:16
Speaker
He will do it. And Romans 12 verse also reminds us that God says, do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for God's wrath.
00:36:29
Speaker
For it is written, it is mine to avenge. I will repay, says the Lord. When people are nasty to us and do mean things or say something mean to us, we can be so tempted to want to get them in trouble for what they did to us.
00:36:48
Speaker
We can be tempted to want to take the law or the matter into our own hands. And when we do so, instead of issuing forgiveness, we are then taking it upon ourselves when it is God's choice to ah seek revenge on our behalf.
00:37:07
Speaker
It is God who is the judge. It is not us. And we may have the ability to do so, but that's part of being a living sacrifice is that we are to give up our right and give it to God.
00:37:23
Speaker
Because that is what we are supposed to do. And part of this counting of the Omer is to learn to be obedient to God and his commandments. God says it is him his job to take revenge.
00:37:39
Speaker
So I wanted to read Romans chapter 12, verses 14 through 21 for us today, which speaks about this.
00:37:54
Speaker
Oh, I had it ready, but then I moved, and I read a different chapter. Romans chapter 12.
00:38:03
Speaker
i Sorry, this is such a long recording to today, everybody. There is so much today. I'm sorry it's so long.
00:38:15
Speaker
Romans chapter 12.
00:38:18
Speaker
I'm going to start with
00:38:24
Speaker
Verse 14. And it says, bless those who persecute you.
00:38:32
Speaker
Bless and do not curse.
00:38:35
Speaker
Rejoice with those who rejoice. Weep with those who weep. Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud, but associate with the lowly.
00:38:47
Speaker
Do not be wise in your own eyes. Repay no one evil for evil. Give thought to what is good in the eyes of all people. If possible, so far as it depends on you, live in peace.
00:39:03
Speaker
Live in shalom is how my Tree of Life version shows the original word. Live in shalom with all people. Never take your own revenge, loved ones, but give room for God's wrath.
00:39:20
Speaker
Give room for God's wrath. That is our daily application today. Never take our own revenge, loved ones, but give room for God's wrath, for it is written, vengeance is mine.
00:39:34
Speaker
i will repay, says the Lord. Rather, if your enemy is hungry, feed him. If he is thirsty, give him a drink.
00:39:45
Speaker
For by doing so, you will heap coals of fire upon his head. Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.
00:39:57
Speaker
God extracted his revenge on Jezebel for the many atrocities she committed. It was not up to God's people to do it. God appointed Jehu to carry out that revenge for him.
00:40:12
Speaker
He specifically told Jehu himself to do it when he had him anointed and he told him to do it. He gave the task to the one that he wanted to have it.
00:40:25
Speaker
And they had to wait some time. Elijah didn't see it. It was not within Elijah's lifetime. Elijah was already taken up by God and during this time. So we do not know that we will ever see how God will repay people for what they do.
00:40:44
Speaker
We may never see it. A lot of times we won't, but we are to have faith in God and obey him that he alone is to avenge if he chooses to avenge what happens to us, that people will answer for what they have done.
00:41:00
Speaker
God alone sees the heart and he is working in everybody. And those that are evil, he will repay how he decides. We are not to repay evil. So that is our daily application today.
00:41:15
Speaker
And I hope that you feel God has lit your light with all of our amazing reading today and the lessons that we have learned, daily application, and the restoreal restoring of my necklace to me.
