Thank you for joining me as we learn about the connection between  Passover, First Fruits, Shavuot (pronounced shav-oo-oat) and Pentecost.  As part of understanding and observing the festivals that God has appointed for us to observe, we count the Omer (pronounced oh-mare)  today and then have our daily Bible reading session!

Here is the link for a downloadable devotional if you would like to  count the Omer for yourself. It has been put out by the Messianic Jewish  Congregation Shoresh David in Florida: https://www.shoreshdavid.org/download/counting-the-omer-booklet/

Today's reading covers Isaiah Chapters 8:1-8, 9:107, 10:5-27, 11-14, and 18-20. Today we will read about God narrowing down the time that the Assyrians will come into Israel to take captives and riches. We will also read about Assyria going too far and being prideful while doing so, and so God promises to pay them back for going too far and thinking THEY are the ones responsible for their success against Israel. We will read prophecy about the birth of Jesus, be given names that Jesus will be called, and read that He will bring light to the Gentiles, too, not just to the Jewish people! We will read that Jesus' reign will be one of peace and that it will last forever. In our discussion for daily application we will be admonished not to be afraid of the things that happen in the world. God is a safe place. We are to look to Him and His Word for answers, not to the spirit world or to those who speak to spirits. We are to look to God, who is the most powerful. We will be encouraged to use prophecy about Jesus when speaking to others, especially Jewish people, to show that Jesus is, indeed, the Messiah that God promised to send to the world, whom Isaiah prophesied about so long ago.

Introduction to Session and Focus

00:00:03
Speaker
Good day everybody. Today is Wednesday, May 28th, 2025 and you are here with Robin at In The Family Way Coaching. We are here for our daily counting of the Omer and our daily Bible reading through the Day by Day Kids Bible written by Karen Henley.
00:00:21
Speaker
Thank you so much for joining me today whether you are following along on that favorite podcast or whether you are watching on video.

Daily Commitment and Omer Counting

00:00:28
Speaker
I am so glad that you are here to- today. And if you are following along on your daily commitment calendar, it's time to get that out and your sticker or however you're marking that off, because you're about to hear the Bible today.
00:00:45
Speaker
There is so much ah in our word today. God's word is so rich. I cannot wait to get into it. But before we do, let's have our daily counting of the Omer.
00:00:58
Speaker
And if you would like to count that with me, please just repeat after me.
00:01:04
Speaker
Blessed are you, o Lord our God, King of the universe, who has set us apart by your commandments and has commanded us to count the Omer.
00:01:25
Speaker
Today is the third day
00:01:28
Speaker
of the seventh week and day 45. I have counted the Omer.

God's Timing and Personal Story

00:01:39
Speaker
I wanted to share with you, God's timing is just uncanny, isn't it? There are so many things that line up, such as when we had the scripture reading about the ax head that would float, and I just knew God was telling me that my necklace was going to be returned and that the ax head would float.
00:01:59
Speaker
And then when the rabbi told me the same thing, Things don't just happen by coincidence. My necklace was lost at just the time that we were going to be having those readings to give me that assurance.

Faith Sharing through Prophecies

00:02:13
Speaker
And I am just amazed that in today's reading, we will be covering the exact same reading that is in the daily devotional put out by ShoreshDavid.org.
00:02:25
Speaker
So I wanted to share it with you because it ah not only covers part of what we're reading, but it gives a different application. And I wanted to share this. This is entitled, Sharing Your Faith Through God's Prophecies.
00:02:41
Speaker
We are reading a lot about the prophecies about Jesus who would be coming 700 years in the future from the time that Isaiah wrote about him. In this particular ah section, it is reading Isaiah chapter nine, verses five and six.
00:02:58
Speaker
And this is exactly part of what we would be will be reading today.
00:03:04
Speaker
For to us a child is born, a son will be given to us, and the government will be upon his shoulders. His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, my Father of Eternity, Prince of Peace.
00:03:25
Speaker
Of the increase of his government and Shalom, there will be no end. On the throne of David, and over his kingdom to establish it and uphold it through justice and righteousness from now until forevermore the seal of the lord god of hosts will accomplish this the zeal not the seal sorry about that this is a prophecy given to isaiah 700 years before jesus's birth
00:03:59
Speaker
Because Jewish people believe in one God and not to have any idols, this gives them difficulty as they ponder a baby being called Mighty God.

Role of Prophecy in Affirming Faith

00:04:13
Speaker
Prophecy helps prove the accuracy and authority of God's Word.
00:04:21
Speaker
Have you memorized scriptural prophecies about Jesus in order to share your faith with our Jewish brothers? And sisters,
00:04:32
Speaker
And then it encouraged us to write down scripture references that we could use when sharing our faith in Jesus. This is exactly what we were talking about yesterday, knowing that g or the day before when talking about these prophecies that Jesus fulfilled.
00:04:48
Speaker
This is how we know that he is the son of God and is the Messiah, which means salvation that was sent to us from God to be the light of the world.
00:05:00
Speaker
So I'm just marveling at God's timing, which is so perfect. And I just love it. God is just so amazing to line things up. And because it was in such alignment with what we are reading, I wanted to ah mention that.
00:05:18
Speaker
Because when God mentions something more than once, it is very important.
00:05:26
Speaker
So we are going to get into our very rich reading today. You've had a little bit of a preface there. We are going to be covering Isaiah chapters 8, chapters 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, eight chapters nine ten eleven well thirteen fourteen 18, 19, and 20.
00:05:51
Speaker
So remember, this is a little bit abbreviated. So this gives us the big story. It won't have every single thing ah in in every single chapter. This will give us the highlights of the big story here.

Isaiah's Message to Israel and Judah

00:06:03
Speaker
So God is speaking to Isaiah in our first section, and it is entitled, A Long Name for a Little Baby.
00:06:14
Speaker
Then God told me, in Get a big roll of paper and use a pen to write on it. Write this name. Meher Shalal Hashbaz.
00:06:30
Speaker
It means quick to take riches won in a fight. Now my wife and I had a baby and God said, name the baby, Meher, Shalal, Hash, Baz.
00:06:44
Speaker
That is because Assyria will fight Israel. Assyria will win. They will take Israel's riches. This will happen before your baby can talk.
00:06:58
Speaker
It will happen before he can say mommy or daddy.
00:07:03
Speaker
God spoke. My people have turned away from me, so enemies will come and fight them. The enemies will be like water flowing out of the river.
00:07:16
Speaker
They will flow all over the land. God told me not to act like the rest of his people. He told me not to be afraid of what they are afraid of.
00:07:29
Speaker
God has all power. He is good and right and holy. he will be a safe place.
00:07:39
Speaker
I am Isaiah. Here I am Here are the children God gave me. We are like signs from God. People may say, get answers from the spirit world.
00:07:54
Speaker
Talk to people who talk to spirits. But shouldn't you get answers from God instead? Why ask dead spirits what will happen to people who are alive?
00:08:06
Speaker
Go to God's laws and words. If spirits don't agree with God's word, then they don't know anything.
00:08:16
Speaker
Isaiah chapter 9 verses 1 through 7. A great light. Someday, people who were sad will be glad.
00:08:28
Speaker
Someday, God will make Galilee great. People walking in the dark see a great light. They're like people who are happy to bring in their crops.
00:08:40
Speaker
That's because you won over their enemies. You took away the people who gave them trouble. A child is born. A son is given to us.
00:08:52
Speaker
He will rule and people will call him Wonderful Guide, Powerful God, Father Forever. Prince of Peace.
00:09:03
Speaker
His kingdom will be a kingdom of peace. It will grow and never end. He will be a king from King David's family.
00:09:15
Speaker
He will keep the kingdom. He will be fair and right forever. God planned it, and he will work hard to do it.

God's Plan and Assurance against Assyria

00:09:26
Speaker
Isaiah chapter 10, verses through 27. like getting eggs from a nest. There is bad news for the people of Assyria, said God.
00:09:39
Speaker
I am sending them to go against my people. I'm doing it because my people don't obey me. I'll let the enemies from Assyria take riches from my people. But the enemies plan to do more than that.
00:09:53
Speaker
They want to get rid of my people." They say that they won over the nations who follow idols, so they think they will win over Judah and Israel too.
00:10:06
Speaker
But God will finish the plan against Judah. Then he will say, I'll pay back the enemies for their pride.
00:10:15
Speaker
This is what the enemies say. We did this by our power. We did this by our wise thinking. We went to fight the nations.
00:10:27
Speaker
We took their land and riches. We are strong. So we took their kings, and it was like getting eggs from a nest. The nations were like little birds.
00:10:40
Speaker
They didn't even make a sound. They didn't even flap their wings.
00:10:46
Speaker
Is the axe stronger than the person who uses it? Does the saw see itself as better than the one who uses the saw? Can a stick control the person who picks it up?
00:11:02
Speaker
Can a club come against a person by itself? God is the most powerful. He is called the light of Israel. He will be like fire.
00:11:16
Speaker
He will get rid of forests and fields that belong to the enemies. There will be just a few trees left. A child will be able to count them.
00:11:27
Speaker
And then Israel and Judah won't trust their enemies to save them anymore. They'll trust in God. Right now, there are many of God's people.
00:11:39
Speaker
But only a few will come back. God says, my people in Judah, don't be afraid of your enemies. These people from Assyria will fight against you, but I will be angry with them.
00:11:57
Speaker
Then God will take away the heavy load of his people.
00:12:03
Speaker
And that's the end of our reading today.
00:12:07
Speaker
Oh, how was my time? Boy, oh boy, there is so much. the focus of this event is on daily application. I could go through and explain everything in there.
00:12:19
Speaker
I'm going to try to do a little bit of that quickly. We did have some reading as a preface when we read our sheresh.org, shereshdavid.org devotional to today, since it aligned perfectly with what we are reading today.
00:12:34
Speaker
And I felt like God was very much weighing that message onto my heart. So I'm going to explain some of that. Just as the devotional said, Jesus fulfilled the prophecies.
00:12:46
Speaker
And this is how we can witness to people and explain to people who are Jewish, but to explain to other people too who are looking for signs that he is the one, the light, the truth.
00:13:00
Speaker
And these are prophecies that Isaiah wrote concerning Jesus's birth and where it would be. I wanted to point out that it says here in Isaiah nine that someday God will make Galilee great.
00:13:17
Speaker
they're referring to the fact that after Assyria had taken the people, they actually imported people to live in the ready-made cities of Galilee.
00:13:28
Speaker
So Galilee became a city of mostly Gentiles, not Jewish people. So even when the Jewish people returned from their exile, Galilee remained a town, mostly Gentiles.
00:13:43
Speaker
And so when in the new covenant where we have Jesus traveling, ah somebody made the comment when they said he was from Galilee, they said, can anything good from come from Galilee?
00:13:56
Speaker
What they're referring to is that they're talking about the Gentile people, meaning what can the Gentile people bring the Jewish people? Is anything good come out of there? And Jesus went to Galilee because in that he was bringing in both the Gentiles to be grafted into the Jewish vine, the Jewish family.
00:14:21
Speaker
And that's why it says people walking in the dark, see a great light. Who is that light? It is Jesus. They are like people who are happy to bring in the crops.
00:14:35
Speaker
They were eager to accept Jesus as their salvation.
00:14:40
Speaker
And that's because you won over their enemies. You took away the people who gave them trouble. And then it says, a child is born, a son is given to us, and he will rule.
00:14:54
Speaker
People will call him Wonderful Guide, Powerful God. Father forever, Prince of Peace. His kingdom will be a kingdom of peace.
00:15:06
Speaker
It will grow and will never end. He will be a king from King David's family, which is something that was spoken about a long time ago. And he will keep the kingdom.
00:15:18
Speaker
Nothing can separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus. Nothing. He keeps it. Jesus told the disciples that no one can snatch out of his hand what belongs to him.
00:15:32
Speaker
Once we belong to Jesus, nothing takes that away. No one can snatch us out of his hand. God planned it and his zeal, he will work hard to do it.
00:15:47
Speaker
He will be right and fair forever. And in Jesus, no violence could be found. He is the Prince of Peace. He wants to us to be having peace as well. He brings us Shalom, which is greater than just a quiet or relaxing or calm.
00:16:06
Speaker
It's deep peace, peace that transcends all understanding.
00:16:15
Speaker
Now we will talk about our daily application.

Trusting God over Worldly Fears

00:16:19
Speaker
Our daily application is that God told Isaiah not to act like the rest of his people. He told Isaiah not to be afraid what they were afraid of because God has all power.
00:16:31
Speaker
He is good and right and holy and he will be a safe place. Someday, oh and people may say,
00:16:44
Speaker
to get answers from the spirit world and to talk to people who talk to spirits. But shouldn't you get answers from God instead?
00:16:54
Speaker
Go to God's laws and words. So those are our daily application today. We are not to act like the rest of the world. The rest of the world is very afraid of different things.
00:17:08
Speaker
Many, many, many times, I don't know the number, God says not to be afraid. Don't act like the people of this world. Don't be afraid of the things that make them afraid.
00:17:20
Speaker
We have seen in our reading that God treats his people differently than how he treats the rest of the people of the world. We know now that not everybody will have the ears to hear or the eyes to see and come to know God that they might be saved.
00:17:37
Speaker
But for you who are here, you have eyes to see and ears to hear and you know God and you are looking for deeper faith and deeper trust in God. You are looking to know God.
00:17:48
Speaker
You are working hard to make God the most important one in your life. And for us who are called and set apart by his commandments, We are not to behave like the rest of the world and be afraid of the things that they say are coming.
00:18:05
Speaker
We only need to trust in God and trust in our Prince of Peace, who nothing can take us away from. We are to trust in God. He is our safe place. Satan wants us to be afraid.
00:18:19
Speaker
He wants us to run around and and think that we don't have enough of something. Jesus told us, don't run around after the things of this world like the pagans do, the people who don't believe in God.
00:18:32
Speaker
Jesus says that God knows what we need, and he knows what we need before we ask for it. He says to seek first his kingdom, seek God first, and the rest of what we need will be given to us.
00:18:48
Speaker
There's an order of operations here, just like in math. You have to do things in the proper order or we won't get the right answer. So the proper order is to seek God's kingdom first.
00:19:01
Speaker
And then we don't need to be afraid about not having enough of things because God will take care of us. He will provide. And if you need something, ask him for it.

Provision and Trust in God

00:19:12
Speaker
And we saw that the Israelites who were traveling in the wilderness with God while they were on their way from Egypt to the promised land, that when they wanted something like meat or when they wanted water, they complained bitterly.
00:19:27
Speaker
And when they brought their complaints to God, we found that they didn't need to complain. They just needed to ask and God would provide for them. But God allows us to have need for things so that we can ask him for things so that he can provide them because he already knows what we need, but he wants us to rely on him for our provision.
00:19:53
Speaker
So we don't need to be afraid of not having it.
00:19:59
Speaker
So that's our daily application today.

Event Sharing and Faith Testimony

00:20:01
Speaker
i hope you have found God's word today to be so, so rich. It is just wonderful. His word is so amazing.
00:20:12
Speaker
And we are getting closer to the time of the new covenant where Jesus comes. I'm so excited. And we have only five more days left of counting the Omer.
00:20:23
Speaker
Oh, I'm so excited in this time of appointed times. Oh, I hope that you are counting the Omer for yourself on days that you're not able to listen to the reading and catch it on the same day.
00:20:35
Speaker
I hope that you are doing that. So thank you for joining me here for our daily counting of the Omer and our daily Bible reading. If you know of somebody who would love to listen to this or who needs to listen to it, please share this event with them.
00:20:50
Speaker
Send it along in any way you need to, by email with a link, ah share it on social media, share it among Spotify listeners, maybe post a review on Apple Music or on Spotify to say that you enjoy this event and that it is...
00:21:08
Speaker
beneficial in your day, to see God's daily application from his word in your life every day, let's click that light button and be a light in the world and salt of the earth. And let's share Jesus's love with everybody.
00:21:22
Speaker
We can do so through the prophecies to explain that Jesus is our savior.

Closing and Invitation

00:21:28
Speaker
He is the one spoken of 700 years before he was born. The way Isaiah did through from God.
00:21:36
Speaker
So thank you very much for being here, whether you're on that favorite podcast or whether you're watching by video. I hope you have a fantastic, blessed rest of your day, and I will be here for everyone again tomorrow.
