Thank you for joining me as we learn about the connection between  Passover, First Fruits, Shavuot (pronounced shav-oo-oat) and Pentecost.  As part of understanding and observing the festivals that God has  appointed for us to observe, we count the Omer (pronounced oh-mare)  today and then have our daily Bible reading session!

Here is the link for a downloadable devotional if you would like to  count the Omer for yourself. It has been put out by the Messianic Jewish  Congregation Shoresh David in Florida: https://www.shoreshdavid.org/download/counting-the-omer-booklet/

Today's reading covers Joel Chapter 3, 2 Kings Chapter 12, and 2 Chronicles Chapter 24. Today we will read about God's Day of Judgment as well as reassurance that God will be a safe place for those who are His people. We will also read about King joash turning away from God once he loses the Godly counsel of his uncle and starts listening to other leaders who worship false idols. In our discussion for daily application we will talk about how important it is to keep our minds protected from ungodly influences. We need to continuously remember to seek God with our whole hearts so He can be a safe place for us, rather than needing to be disciplined by God because we forget about Him, the way Joash and the people did. We will be encouraged that even when God needs to discipline us, we can return to Him with our whole hearts because He is so faithful, kind, forgiving, loving, and doesn't want to send us trouble. He may change His mind, as we have seen Him do, and cut short our discipline if we show remorse, repent, and return to Him quickly, so that He can once again be a safe place for us.

Introduction and Purpose of Daily Bible Reading

00:00:03
Speaker
there everyone Today is Saturday. It is May 17, 2025, and you are here with Robin at In the Family Way Coaching. We are here for our daily Bible reading today.
00:00:16
Speaker
We are going through the Bible this year using the Day by Day Kids Bible that's been written by Karen Henley. And we are keeping track of our daily commitment to read the Bible each day this year with our commitment calendar.
00:00:30
Speaker
So if you are following along with that, go ahead and take that out in your sticker or however you are marking it off and get ready to do that because you're about to hear the Bible today.

Commitment and Quality in Bible Reading

00:00:42
Speaker
I am getting this video up so late that we are going to skip the counting of the Omer because nobody will be able to count it with me today and ah on Saturday.
00:00:53
Speaker
So there's no point in doing that. I did count it myself though. So we're going to go ahead and get right into our Bible reading because it's getting late for me too. And I had this already recorded and then i would ah suddenly I realized, you know, I'm not satisfied with that recording.
00:01:12
Speaker
So I am starting it again I am glad to be redoing it so that I feel like it's done better.

Completion of Joel and God's Judgment

00:01:21
Speaker
So we are going to pick up today with finishing the book of Joel, as well as reading about Joash as he is king in Judah.
00:01:34
Speaker
So as we left yesterday with ah Joel chapter two, the last thing we heard from God was that everyone who calls on God will be saved. And we spoke about that as our daily application yesterday.
00:01:48
Speaker
Today, we are going to pick up with chapter 3 in Joel and complete our reading. And that section is entitled, New Wine and Milk. And this is still God speaking.
00:02:03
Speaker
and This is what he told Joel to say. And remember, this is talking about the end times. God's judgment on the earth.
00:02:16
Speaker
Then i will get all the nations together. I will judge them for sending my people here and there through the nations. Now why are you mad at me, you nations?
00:02:30
Speaker
Are you paying me back for something I did? If you are, then I will pay you back. You took my silver and gold. You sold the people and sent them far away from their homes.
00:02:46
Speaker
See, i will bring them back from the places where you sold them. I'll pay you back.
00:02:55
Speaker
Get ready for war. Wake up the fighting men. Make your farm tools sharp. Let weak people say they are strong.
00:03:06
Speaker
Come together quickly, you nations, and bring your fighters, God. Many, many are in the valley of choosing. That's because the Lord's day is near.
00:03:19
Speaker
God will roar and thunder from Jerusalem. But God will be a safe place for those who are his people. Then you will know that I live in Zion.
00:03:34
Speaker
I am the Lord your God. Strangers will never fight Jerusalem again. New wine will drip from the mountains. Milk will flow from the hills.
00:03:48
Speaker
Water will run through all the valleys. But the lands of God's enemies will be desert lands. That's because of what they did to God's people.
00:04:00
Speaker
But people will live in Judah forever. It's all because I will forgive them.

Reign and Downfall of Joash

00:04:08
Speaker
And that's the end of our reading of Joel.
00:04:12
Speaker
Now we're going to pick up with Joash from 2 Kings chapter 12 and 2 Chronicles chapter 24. And this is entitled, Turning Away.
00:04:27
Speaker
Joash was seven years old when he became king of Judah and time passed.
00:04:37
Speaker
Joash thought he would fix up God's worship house. He talked to the priests about it. Gather money that's given at the worship house, he said. Use the money to fix whatever needs to be fixed.
00:04:52
Speaker
Go to other towns to gather money for this too, and do it right away. But the priests did not do it right away. Joash had now been king for 23 years, and the priests still had not fixed the worship house.
00:05:12
Speaker
Why aren't you fixing up the worship house? asked Joash. Stop taking money for yourselves. Give it to someone who can fix the worship house.
00:05:24
Speaker
One priest made a hole in the top of a large wooden box, and he put it next to the altar.
00:05:32
Speaker
A message went out to all the people, and it said to bring their tax money to God. So people from all over Judah brought money to the worship house.
00:05:42
Speaker
And they put it into the box. People were glad to put tax money into the chest. They filled it up. They gathered lots of money that way.
00:05:56
Speaker
And then they paid the workers to fix up the worship house. The workers did good work. They worked hard and they fixed up the worship house and there was money left over.
00:06:10
Speaker
So it paid for worship house dishes. They were made of gold and silver.
00:06:18
Speaker
Now the priest who taught Joash died and that priest had done many good things. So they put him in the grave with the other Kings. Then other leaders came to see Joash and he began to listen to them. them They worshipped idols.
00:06:38
Speaker
They turned away from God. God sent prophets to the leaders and the prophets told the leaders to remember God. But the people wouldn't listen to the prophets.
00:06:52
Speaker
Now the old priest who had taught Joash had a son and his name was Zechariah. God's spirit came on Zechariah and he came and talked to the people.
00:07:06
Speaker
These are God's words to you, said Zechariah. Why don't you obey me? You turned away from me. Now things will not go well for you.
00:07:19
Speaker
You forgot me. Now I will forget you.
00:07:25
Speaker
But the people made plans against Zechariah, and King Joash told them to kill Zechariah. So they found Zechariah in the yard of the worship house and they threw rocks at him.
00:07:40
Speaker
As he died, Zechariah said, I pray that God will see this. I pray that he will pay you back for this.
00:07:52
Speaker
Now the army of Aram came out to fight Joash and the army marched into the land of Judah. They killed leaders. They took things from the people.
00:08:05
Speaker
Then they sent everything to the king of Aram. The army of Aram was small, but God made them win. And that's because Joash and the people in Judah forgot God.
00:08:21
Speaker
Then the army of Aram started to fight Jerusalem. And King Joash gathered all the riches in Jerusalem. He took the gold in the worship house and the palace and he sent it to Aram's king.
00:08:37
Speaker
He paid the king to stop fighting. So the army of Aram left Jerusalem. But Joash had been hurt in the battle and now his own leaders turned against him.
00:08:52
Speaker
They were angry that he had killed Zechariah, the son of the priest. So the leaders killed Joash while he was in bed.
00:09:02
Speaker
Joash had a son named Amaziah, and he became the next king of Judah. And he was a good king.
00:09:13
Speaker
And that's the end of our reading today.

Counsel, Repentance, and Protection

00:09:18
Speaker
So today in the story of King Joash, we saw that while he had good counsel, the priest who had raised him, who was his uncle, he made good decisions and he was doing things right.
00:09:33
Speaker
But as soon as that priest had died and now he had bad counsel, now he was being influenced and now he was turning away from God by people who worshiped idols.
00:09:47
Speaker
I bet that sounds familiar, doesn't it? We spoke a couple of days ago about needing to make sure about the types of relationships that we had because we needed to make sure that we don't infect our minds with what we see and hear.
00:10:06
Speaker
because we need to make sure that we keep our minds clean because that is where sin starts. So as soon as he started to hear from these people who worshiped other false gods, now Joash had turned away from God.
00:10:24
Speaker
And now he was no longer looking to God when like the king of Aram had come because he was listening to people who were drawing him away from God. He was not keeping his mind from being contaminated by things of the world.
00:10:43
Speaker
And so we've talked about that in the past, that it's very important because transformation starts in the mind. Sin starts in the mind. And God reminds him through the prophet Joel, that even at the end times,
00:11:02
Speaker
God will be a safe place for those who are his people. And we see and many times in the past that when the people look to God, God protects his people.
00:11:17
Speaker
The battle belongs to him. The people of Israel didn't even have to fight that battle that we read about with the, uh, where the where God killed all of the enemy army, and they got to take all of those riches home because they relied on God.
00:11:37
Speaker
But when we see that people forget about God, then God pulls back. And he has warned us in the past, what we've read here is that when they seek God, they will find him with all of their heart.
00:11:53
Speaker
and God will be found. But when they turn away from God, God will turn away from them. And so that is what we see here. And then King Joash made it worse by trying to pay the king of Aram to stop fighting with him rather than looking to God.
00:12:12
Speaker
So it just got even worse. Even while God was sending discipline by saying that things will not go well for him, Instead of turning back to God in that discipline, which we read yesterday,
00:12:29
Speaker
where he said, where God said that, let's see, where did it go?
00:12:42
Speaker
It says, even now you can come back to me, says God. Come back with all your heart. God is kind and full of love. He doesn't get angry very fast.
00:12:55
Speaker
He doesn't want to send trouble. Who knows? Maybe he will change his mind and maybe he will give you something good. Just like when we saw the king of Israel, when God had sent the the prophet to him, ah Elisha, and to say that he was not behaving properly and that he was going to bring trouble on him and his family.
00:13:18
Speaker
And then, uh, king joram think it was king joram uh then tore his clothes and he started behaving that he was sorry like he was sorry he was sorry for god uh to god for behaving that way and god said to elisha do you see how the king is behaving i will not make this judgment come on to him while he is alive i will wait and do it to his son So God wants to be merciful when we show that we are responding to the discipline that he gives us.
00:13:55
Speaker
And for those who seek him, God tells us again today that for those who are his people, God will be a safe place.
00:14:06
Speaker
So for our daily application, we need to remember that as his people, we hold a special place in God's heart. And just like with David, when Saul was chasing him, God protected David. He was a safe place for David and God protected him.
00:14:26
Speaker
And God protected the people whenever they came to him with all of their hearts. And God will protect us too. and he will be a safe place for us when we come to him

Encouragement and Sharing God's Word

00:14:37
Speaker
with all of our hearts and make him the most important one.
00:14:42
Speaker
But we need to be sure that we protect our minds and that we not turn away from him so that he will not have to bring discipline to us. But even if we do to turn away from him,
00:14:56
Speaker
we can still come back.
00:14:59
Speaker
We can repent. And God is always faithful to forgive. God is so wonderful. He is so loving. He is not quick to anger, as he tells us time and time again.
00:15:13
Speaker
So that is our daily application today, to remember, to make God the most important one and to seek him with all of our hearts that we hear this time and time again, but we see that we can't hear it enough.
00:15:27
Speaker
God shows us through these examples where his people have turned away and then there is consequence. But even then, they need to come back to him so that he can be a safe place for them because he treats us differently.
00:15:46
Speaker
So I hope that this has been encouraging to you to know how faithful our God is and how wonderful he is and how kind he is and how loving he is, that we want to be sure to seek him with all of our hearts.
00:16:04
Speaker
And he will be a safe place for us.
00:16:07
Speaker
And that we also need to be mindful of our relationships and make sure that we are not turning away from him because of bad influence.
00:16:19
Speaker
So that things will not go poorly for us.
00:16:24
Speaker
So there was a lot going on in today's reading. We are tying in multiple lessons of what we see ah time and time again with the people. And God is still always so faithful, even now.
00:16:40
Speaker
So I hope that you feel that God has lit your light today. And to click that light button when you're done watching or listening today. And if you know of somebody who could benefit from today's reading, please share this event with them.
00:16:53
Speaker
Because together we are the light of the world and we will spread the word about reading God's word. Thank you so much for joining me today and I will be here for everyone again tomorrow.
