May 29, 2025 Daily Reading- Read the Bible in 1 Year

Daily Bible Reading with Robin at In the Family Way Coaching (Audio only)

3 Plays3 minutes ago

Thank you for joining me as we learn about the connection between  Passover, First Fruits, Shavuot (pronounced shav-oo-oat) and Pentecost.  As part of understanding and observing the festivals that God has appointed for us to observe, we count the Omer (pronounced oh-mare)  today and then have our daily Bible reading session!

Here is the link for a downloadable devotional if you would like to  count the Omer for yourself. It has been put out by the Messianic Jewish  Congregation Shoresh David in Florida: https://www.shoreshdavid.org/download/counting-the-omer-booklet/

Today's reading covers Isaiah Chapters 11-12, 2 Chronicles 28, and 2 Kings Chapter 16:9-20. Today we will read about the terrible way that King Ahaz behaved by not obeying God and leading the people of Judah to sin. We will read about God sending many nations to conquer Judah, including Israel, to take over the land and carry off the people living there because of their sin of idol worship. We will also read prophecy about the coming of Jesus and see that he would be filled with God's Spirit, who knows and looks up to God. We will see that the Messiah would be glad to make God the most important one. In our discussion for daily application we will talk about being glad to make God the most important one in OUR lives. We will talk about how we need to represent God well because we are His children, set apart by His commandments, called to be His witnesses, and we don't want to lead other people astray, especially other believers! Jesus taught us that it is better for a person to have a millstone tied to their neck and drown in the sea than it is for a person to lead even ONE of HIS people astray!  We need to be mindful of making sure we are obeying God and providing a good example for others so that people may be led TO Jesus, not AWAY.

Introduction and Technical Challenges

00:00:03
Speaker
Hello everybody, welcome to the reading for May 29th, 2025. is Thursday and you are with Robin at In The Family Way Coaching. Thank you for joining me for this reading for today. It's going to get posted way too late for anybody to actually listen today because it is almost 1020 my time p.m.
00:00:24
Speaker
Normally I'm working on this in the a.m. m This is actually my second recording for the day. I had this already recorded and i had it posted, but I had some problems and God was just really making it known to me that he wanted me to redo this.
00:00:42
Speaker
So I took it down off of YouTube And it was really interesting because ah one of the ways I was figuring it out is because i could not get the audio file to load onto the website and i could not get the podcast to load on through the podcasting web posting.
00:01:01
Speaker
So when stuff like that starts happening, I start going, hmm, God, do you not want me to post this one?

Reading from the Bible

00:01:10
Speaker
And it turned out that the answer was yes.
00:01:13
Speaker
And I think it's because I did not read in the Big Bible. So I didn't have a super clear picture as to everything that had been going on in our reading today.
00:01:26
Speaker
So now I have a better understanding of the big picture, of the whole picture, I should say, for our Big Picture Bible. And I'm going to be giving this recording another shot.
00:01:39
Speaker
So thank you for joining me as we read through the Day by Day Kids Bible written by Karen Henley. And if you are following along on that commitment calendar, it is time to get that out or your and your sticker or however you're marking it off because you're about to hear the Bible today, even though it's not on May 29th.

Holiday Scheduling and Divine Intervention

00:02:04
Speaker
So also it's a little too late for us to do the official counting of the Omer. And today is day 46. So I do want us to know that and be aware of where we are on the calendar in space and time for that.
00:02:20
Speaker
And i ah God made it, ah reminded me today that, actually tonight, that Shavuot is two-day holiday and it is on Monday of next week. Today is Thursday and the 50th day falls on Monday next week.
00:02:39
Speaker
So according to the Bible, God has told us that it is to be a day where we don't do any regular work. It's a type of Shabbat. shabbat It's a type of Sabbath.
00:02:53
Speaker
And so I i thought that that was the case and it would have been in the back of my mind and I was thinking about it, but I i know that I need to plan that in advance. Because if I just say, oh, I can't do anything today, that's not very probable.
00:03:08
Speaker
So I wanted to talk a little bit about that before we start our video today, and or I should say our reading, because it's important for us to make plan in advance, if possible.
00:03:21
Speaker
I know that ah not everybody is choosing to celebrate these festivals right now, but if you're going to have a chance to do it, you've got a plan in advance. So I want to let us know that next Monday and Tuesday actually Shavuot celebration days.
00:03:40
Speaker
And so those are Sabbath days. They're called high Sabbath or high high holy days, I think is the word. And we are not supposed to do any regular work. So i wanted to share with you specifically how God, ah i told you that I was having God be in control of my schedule at work.
00:04:01
Speaker
And so I was looking for the times tonight after I got off work. is when we do our, um what we call dropping of shifts, so that we can schedule and plan our days ahead of time.
00:04:17
Speaker
So I was looking at my calendar and I said, okay, I'm scheduled at the moment for Sunday. i can work Monday and half a day on Tuesday, because that's my Bible study day, all day Wednesday, and Thursday, and a half a day Friday.
00:04:33
Speaker
And so I'm looking to see what my options will be when I have the opportunity to make my schedule Now, it's really God making my schedule because if if he does not want me to work, I don't get a shift for those days.
00:04:48
Speaker
The way that it works is that they they post a ah certain number of shifts and you have to pick them up. And if you don't pick them up in time, somebody else has them.
00:05:00
Speaker
So ah ah that so my schedule is not my own. at the moment. I'm letting God do it because I'm not maintaining that preferential status where I can choose my schedule two weeks ahead of time.
00:05:13
Speaker
And in which case I would be required to work Saturday and Sunday or six days of the week of the month. So I i was noticing that in my scheduling, I was not able to get any shifts for Monday or Tuesday.
00:05:29
Speaker
And I did get one for Wednesday and there was nothing started yet for Thursday, I think, or Friday. And so I was sitting there and i was a ah it's really been a challenge for me with my scheduling because i i it takes me a moment. Sometimes I forget that God is in charge of my schedule. I say that, but then i'm I'm a little bit disappointed when I don't get what I think I'm going to have, which is really silly. It's just breaking out of that pattern.
00:06:02
Speaker
So I noticed that I didn't have any schedule for Monday or Tuesday, and so I was driving home. And I was thinking about it and I was a little bit grumpy.
00:06:14
Speaker
And God reminded me, he said, you're not supposed to work on Monday or Tuesday. And I started thinking, am I not supposed to work on Monday or Tuesday? So I don't know how God speaks to you, but that's how God speaks to me is that he puts these ideas and thoughts into my mind and I start looking at things and then I look at it up.
00:06:32
Speaker
When I got home, I looked it up. And I didn't know exactly where it was going to be, so I had to do a search for it. and And it turns out that it tells us in Leviticus that it is meant to be a Sabbath day.
00:06:46
Speaker
And no regular work is to be done. And I'm going, well, which day is Shavuot again? and I look, and sure enough, It is Monday and Tuesday.
00:06:57
Speaker
Those were the days that I was looking to get shifts and didn't get any. So I just want to share with you how amazing and how wonderful our God is. So ah part ah one of the names that God has given me is witness. And we really all are supposed to be witnesses.
00:07:13
Speaker
And what that means is that we experience things with God and then we tell others about it. So that's one of the reasons why I love to do these videos is so that I can share what God is doing in my life.
00:07:26
Speaker
And that way you can see it and have example and be encouraged.

Importance of Sharing Experiences with God

00:07:30
Speaker
Not just because I want to talk about it and not just because I want to give glory to God, because I do, i want to give glory to God, but because that is our my job, my name is as I'm a witness.
00:07:42
Speaker
And this is what everybody is called to do, is to have experience with God and then tell people about them. So I love that. And then my second experience today was that He told me, you you didn't read.
00:07:59
Speaker
So I felt off. I felt like and I didn't think I really needed to read. And I said, well, I don't really think I need to read the whole thing. There's a lot going on and in the story. And um it seemed like there was just a lot of reading. And the reading itself was already kind of long. And I'd already read it twice.
00:08:16
Speaker
And I and didn't know what exactly God wanted me to say. But I figured I'm not going to worry about that because God will let me know. And so I did the recording and I listened to it on the YouTube because I couldn't listen to it on the audio.
00:08:33
Speaker
And I just felt off. I felt just, I didn't feel right. I felt disconnected from God. So that's how he lets me know there's something not quite right. We got some morning bells going on.
00:08:47
Speaker
Whoop, whoop, whoop. And I'm asking, so I'm working, right? And i'm I'm listening to a podcast. Or at least I'm trying to. And I just feel like I can't understand anything going on in the podcast.
00:09:04
Speaker
I just feel like I don't have ears to And I'm starting to be like, what is going on So I start checking and i I start trying to talk to God while I'm working. And I'm like, i can't even focus.
00:09:19
Speaker
And so i I waited until my break. And I was able to sit down for some quiet time. And, and I asked him and I said, what is, what do I need to do? What do you want me to know?
00:09:36
Speaker
And he told me that needed to read. the entries for today in the Big Bible. So I said, okay. And I did that on my break. I read part of it. I didn't have time to read all of it.
00:09:50
Speaker
But once I read it, I understood there was more going on in depth in the little details than what was covered in our version. And God wanted me to be able to tell you about that.
00:10:02
Speaker
So I immediately disconnected the YouTube and i put it to private so I could get rid of it. And, I took it off the website so it wasn't linked there for, uh, to the YouTube video.
00:10:17
Speaker
And, I, the podcast wasn't going to load anyways. It just died. it It's interesting when that happens. And that was that.
00:10:28
Speaker
So, uh, here I am at 1020, trying to make a video for you after my work day. And I just feel like, oh, this is the end of my day and I'm so tired.
00:10:42
Speaker
I feel like i can't even think. I said, well, Lord, you say that you will give us the words to say when we need to. So I'm just relying on God to give me the words to say in spirit.
00:10:54
Speaker
So I had to share all of that with you because ah that's all part of our daily application is making God the most important one, right? And we need to listen to God when he tells us that we're wrong.
00:11:05
Speaker
And so I really wanted to ah share that with you in this recording. So here we go.

Biblical Narratives and Lessons

00:11:14
Speaker
We are going to get going in our readings.
00:11:20
Speaker
And i don't know if you can hear that, but i have a kitty cat meowing over here. I think he wants out of the room. So we're going to be starting with 2 Chronicles chapter 28. And it
00:11:32
Speaker
and it is entitled, Making Slaves of God's People.
00:11:39
Speaker
Ahaz was Judah's king, and he made idols and worshipped Baal. So God let the army of Aram win over Judah. The people of Aram took lots of God's people out of the land.
00:11:55
Speaker
God's people from Israel also came to fight God's people in Judah. And the people from Israel won. They took people and riches from Judah back with them to Israel.
00:12:08
Speaker
And this happened because Judah had turned away from God. Now there was a prophet named Oded, and he went to meet Israel's army on its way home.
00:12:19
Speaker
And he said, God was angry at Judah, so he let you win. But you killed them because of your anger. And you're planning to make Judah's people into slaves.
00:12:32
Speaker
But haven't you done things against God too? So listen, send these people back home. God is angry at you too. Some of the leaders talked to the army about it.
00:12:45
Speaker
Don't bring Judah's people here, they said. If you do, God will blame us and we've already done enough to make God angry. So Israel's army sent Judah's people back home.
00:13:00
Speaker
The leaders sent things back that the that the army had took it had taken and these leaders gave clothes back to the people of Judah who didn't have any. They gave the people shoes and food and drinks and they put oil on their hurt places to make them feel better.
00:13:20
Speaker
They let people who weren't strong ride on donkeys. And they took the people of Judah back home. Then Judah's king, Ahaz, asked the king of Assyria for help.
00:13:34
Speaker
And that's because the army of Edom had come to fight and they had taken people away. They had taken over some cities too. God let this happen because Ahaz led the people to sin.
00:13:50
Speaker
So people from the nation of Assyria came to Judah, but they brought trouble instead of help. King Ahaz paid Assyria with riches from the worship house, but that didn't help.
00:14:07
Speaker
Altars on every street corner. Then the nation of Assyria went out to fight the nation of Aram, and people from Assyria took control of the city of Damascus. They took all the people away and killed the king.
00:14:22
Speaker
King Ahaz went to go see the king of Assyria in Damascus. And there he saw an altar. He called for one of his priests and he asked him to draw a picture of the altar.
00:14:37
Speaker
Ahaz wanted the priest to build one just like it. So the priest did. He finished it before King Ahaz got back home to Judah. King Ahaz saw the new altar and he offered gifts of worship on it.
00:14:54
Speaker
Then he gave gifts to God on the new altar. He gave orders to the priest. Offer all the gifts to God on the new altar, he said, but I'll use the old altar to get answers from God.
00:15:11
Speaker
And then King Ahaz moved the old altar. King Ahaz moved lots of the things in the worship house. Then he offered gifts to the fake gods of Aram.
00:15:24
Speaker
He thought, Aram's gods helped them, so I'll give gifts to their gods and maybe they'll help me too. But they brought him trouble and instead.
00:15:36
Speaker
Ahaz took away the tables and lamps from the worship house. He closed the worship house doors so no one could go in there anymore. And he built altars at all the street corners.
00:15:49
Speaker
He also built places to offer gifts to idols in every town. And all of this made God angry. And sometime later, King Ahaz died, and his son Hezekiah became the next king of Judah.
00:16:07
Speaker
Hezekiah was a good king.
00:16:11
Speaker
Our last section comes to us from Isaiah chapters 11 through 12. And this is where we will read prophecy again about Jesus.
00:16:21
Speaker
The family of King David is like a tree. It was cut down, but part of it will begin to grow again. a branch will come up from the roots and it will grow fruit.
00:16:36
Speaker
A new king will come. God's spirit will stay upon him. This is God's wise, understanding spirit. This is God's spirit who knows and looks up to God.
00:16:51
Speaker
The king will be glad to treat God as the most important one.
00:16:59
Speaker
He will choose what's right for the poor and he will be fair to the poor. you will keep his promises. And the wolf will live with the lamb. The leopard will lie down with the goat.
00:17:13
Speaker
The calf and lion will eat together. And their babies will lie down together. and the baby will play close to the cobra's hole.
00:17:25
Speaker
The little child will touch the snake's nest. Nothing will hurt anyone, anywhere on my holy mountain. The earth will be full of people who know God.
00:17:41
Speaker
It will be as full as the water that fills the sea. And then the king from David's family will stand. He will stand like a flag for the people and the nations will come to him.
00:17:56
Speaker
The place where he rests will shine with greatness. God will bring back those of his people who are left. He will bring them back from the enemy lands.
00:18:10
Speaker
God will gather Judah's people from all over the earth. And Israel won't be angry at Judah anymore. And Judah won't be angry at Israel.
00:18:24
Speaker
They will fight together against their enemies and they will win. And then God's people will say, we praise you, God. You were angry with us, but you are not angry anymore.
00:18:37
Speaker
You have made us feel happy. We will trust in you. We won't be afraid. God is our power. He is our song.
00:18:49
Speaker
He saves us. And everyone will say, thank God. Tell how great his name is. Sing to God. He did great things.
00:19:02
Speaker
Shout out loud and sing for joy. God is great.
00:19:08
Speaker
And that is the end of our reading to today.
00:19:12
Speaker
Isn't that a happy thought? Oh, just so much joy.

Obedience and Leadership Lessons from Jesus

00:19:18
Speaker
We'll talk a little bit about Isaiah first.
00:19:24
Speaker
It says that Jesus will be filled with God's spirit. God's spirit will stay upon him. And this is God's guiding strong spirit.
00:19:38
Speaker
This is God's spirit who knows and looks up to God. And the king will be glad to treat God like the most important one. Are we glad to treat God like the most important one?
00:19:53
Speaker
That is one of the the biggest lessons Jesus could ever have shown us, is that he showed us how to obey. He obeyed even to death, death on a cross.
00:20:06
Speaker
And he did it while we were still enemies with God, not because we deserved this great gift from him.
00:20:17
Speaker
And God talks about the fact that he will be bringing his people back to Israel, his Jewish people. Isn't that wonderful?
00:20:34
Speaker
He will bring them back from all over the world.
00:20:41
Speaker
and They will be united as one kingdom, one one country.
00:20:47
Speaker
So let's go back to the beginning where we learned about Ahaz. And Ahaz was Judas King. Ahaz was very sinful.
00:20:59
Speaker
He did not just worship God. He just basically thought of God as one of many gods. And we've talked a little bit about that. He worshiped Baal. But he didn't just worship Baal.
00:21:12
Speaker
he was He put his children... He burned his children in the fire. And these were the same things, the same types of sacrifices that the people were doing who lived in the land before God gave it to the people of Israel.
00:21:30
Speaker
God told the people of Israel to get rid of the people who lived there because otherwise they would be tempting God's people into sin. They weren't supposed to marry into them.
00:21:42
Speaker
They weren't supposed to even allow them to stay there. Because those people, they were told, would lead them into sin. This is exactly what we see happening.
00:21:54
Speaker
and he And when we see a leader, a leader leads. When there is a leader doing wrong and bad things, the people will copy and follow right along.
00:22:06
Speaker
We saw that that's what happened with Israel. And we see that that's what happened with the people of Judah as well. And we see that he led the people to sin.
00:22:19
Speaker
And we've had it ah lesson on this before where it is very serious to God not to lead and other people to sin.
00:22:32
Speaker
As believers, we are always being watched. Not like a paranoia or like people are watching us all of the time, but people see us and they learn from our examples.
00:22:44
Speaker
And we are to be held to a higher standard. We're not to let any unkind talk come out of our mouths, only that for what is useful for building one another up.
00:22:55
Speaker
Because people will see and hear what we say and do. and they will copy and they will think, oh, that's what Christians do. That's what people who believe in God do.
00:23:07
Speaker
And that is not representing God the way he needs to be represented. And the leader was leading people to worship Baal, to burn their children in sacrifice.
00:23:22
Speaker
He believed in other gods. He just he was willing to take whoever. When he saw that the king of Aram successful,
00:23:34
Speaker
He didn't attribute that to God and his punishment, even though he had already received and prophecy. We've been reading prophecy for days about the fact that God was going to ah send assyria to judah to take the people away.
00:23:51
Speaker
And despite that fact, the king of Judah, Ahaz, is trying to get away with with ah like he's trying to get away from that sentence.
00:24:03
Speaker
like He doesn't believe God. Instead of being repentant and coming to God and and confessing his sins, He is continuing to worship other false gods.
00:24:15
Speaker
And he says, well, those people won, and it must be because of their god. And so their god must be more powerful. So I'll worship that god, and maybe he'll help me.
00:24:27
Speaker
Boy, the logic there. It just doesn't go. It's terrible. And so because of his terrible examples of leading the people into sin, God allowed Israel to win against them.
00:24:40
Speaker
And when Israel was going to take people, and they did take people from Judah, God sent ah prophet to them and said, no. Those were their brothers. They were family.
00:24:53
Speaker
They were all part of the tribes ah of Jacob. It was not right for them to try to take slaves of their own people. So God had them send the people back.
00:25:07
Speaker
And then they they they thought about it and they did the right thing. And they took care of the people. says that the people who were naked, they gave them clothes and shoes. And they gave the people food and water.
00:25:19
Speaker
And they attended to their wounds. And those who couldn't walk, they led them by donkeys. So it was good that they treated their brothers better, but they were told that the only reason that they won is because God was angry with Judah for all of the terrible things. Judah was supposed to be the the kingdom who was doing right.
00:25:42
Speaker
They had the temple and everything and the priests and they were not, they were not following. So it was very It's very important that we take our lesson again about ah for our daily application to be that we it is not o okay for us to be disrespectful to God by not being a good witness for him, by not being a good representative of him. We are God's children.
00:26:13
Speaker
And one of the things that we pray in the when we are ah counting the Omer, is that he has set us apart by his commandments. So we are to be different.
00:26:25
Speaker
And if we are behaving as one in the world, then we are not behaving like God's children. And we see that God will punish the people who are not obeying him, who are leading others astray.
00:26:40
Speaker
And Jesus told us that it is better for one to have a millstone tied around his neck, a big stone that was used for grinding grain to make flour, to be tied around his neck and thrown into the sea than to lead even one of his children astray.
00:27:01
Speaker
Those were his children that the leader was leading away and leading astray. So we are not to give poor example to other Christians who are less mature in their belief in their less mature in in their faith.
00:27:19
Speaker
I mean, i couldn't find the word there for a moment who are less mature in their faith. We need to be good examples. and help others to grow in God, not to be disobedient in God.
00:27:36
Speaker
So that is our big daily application today. And so God wanted me to be sure and and talk about that today, which I did talk about, but it wasn't as clear cut. And I had a lot of other things that I was talking about too.
00:27:51
Speaker
So I want to be sure that I am obeying God and that I am being a good example so that we can obey God and make him the most important one. Like we see that Jesus was read. We read about Jesus today in Isaiah where he was glad.
00:28:08
Speaker
To make God the most important one. Now God ah sent him to to be our savior and he was perfect. He is perfect.
00:28:18
Speaker
And God doesn't expect us to be perfect. But he does expect us to do our best to try and to not deliberately lead people astray.
00:28:30
Speaker
So thank you for listening to this long lesson today. i hope you enjoyed my examples of how God is using and talking to me. and And I hope that you i find that God has lit your light today.
00:28:45
Speaker
And I would ask that you click the light button at the end. And together, let's let's share this event. Let's spread the word about reading God's word so that we can all benefit and learn from these lessons that God gives us um our day for our daily application.
00:29:03
Speaker
Thank you for being here, and I will be here for everyone again tomorrow.
