Bria: It really was.
baldwins2ndgen: I was like, who did the, like the, like the, like put cut her into like a, it was like a, a high low bob, but the back was like.
Bria: It was, it was waiting.
Shelly: have Not the high low.
Bria: Oh man.
Shelly: What a time.
Bria: um Yeah.
Shelly: Yeah, we'll watch it one day.
Bria: We should.
baldwins2ndgen: But, um, again I watched it last month as an adult for the first time and I was like, oh, no ma 'am.
Bria: You know what I rewatched?
Shelly: I'll turn to the sender.
Bria: I rewatched Bring It On.
baldwins2ndgen: The anti -blackness.
Bria: I rewatched Bring It On again.
Shelly: Yeah.
Bria: That was so...
baldwins2ndgen: this white girl This white girl's name is Brittany.
Bria: This one girl's name is Brittany.
baldwins2ndgen: Shimmy Shimmy lip gloss Barbie.
baldwins2ndgen: Shimmy Shimmy lip gloss Barbie is crazy.
Bria: Oh, man. It's really funny.
baldwins2ndgen: We're two minutes in, y 'all.
Bria: Yeah.
baldwins2ndgen: Let's, you know,
Shelly: Yay.
Bria: Hey, everybody. It's us.
Shelly: Hi.
baldwins2ndgen: Welcome. Welcome back. this is Welcome back to the reed.
Shelly: Hey.
Bria: That wasn't good.
baldwins2ndgen: Welcome back to the reed.
Bria: Yeah.
Shelly: Here we are.
baldwins2ndgen: I'm K -Theory and I'm Crystal.
Bria: That's not.
Bria: I don't even know what to say that I am.
Shelly: um
Bria: I don't know.
baldwins2ndgen: Right, but my I am, and know who why I know who I am today.
Bria: I'm Link.
Bria: I'm Link the expensive Yorkie puppy.
baldwins2ndgen: Oh, period. You know who I am? I'm Quincy Bronson's haircut.
Bria: which process
Shelly: Oh! Oh!
baldwins2ndgen: That, y 'all, that pixie, bitch, that pixie, that pixie.
Bria: I'm Zack Fox, actually. Yeah.
Shelly: I have to pull it up.
Bria: I'm not cut up and I've been told...
baldwins2ndgen: Y 'all are, yeah, y 'all gotta to get it together.
Shelly: I have to pull it up immediately.
Bria: I've seen the pixie. I'm not cut up on Abbott and I've already been...
baldwins2ndgen: How embarrassing.
Shelly: I'm not, I'm indeed not caught up on avid.
Bria: I've... Okay, see? Okay. So it's not just me.
Shelly: I tried to catch up on the airplane when I was on a 15 hour flight and it was only season one. And I said, what am I supposed to do with this?
Bria: Oh no.
Shelly: Like, what am I supposed to do? Binge watch so I can remember what I already said. Like there's nothing to do here. And what did I do? I did and indeed. um I watched some episodes just to refresh some things.
Shelly: And I'm like, this isn't doing anything.
Bria: You know?
Shelly: So I am gonna be behind. So we're running back soon. Oh my gosh.
baldwins2ndgen: I hear that's why.
Shelly: My finger was kind of dense. You know, it's things that you acknowledge about your body with an adult body. You just look at certain things and you go, what is happening? What is that? What is it doing? Like, but am i what are my hands doing? Why is my skin like that? Like,
Bria: very much why take that digest in prebiotic whatever the fuck
Shelly: why? Like, why do I have to pay attention to my iron every day? Like, I don't have to do that before. Like, I have to pay attention to everything.
Shelly: chia seeds, flax seeds, prebiotic, probiotic, wake up, drink your water. I'm just like, now I just analyze my body every three minutes. Like, are you, are you doing all right?
baldwins2ndgen: Do you need something? Can I help you with something?
Shelly: And can you please just gently tell me, please gentle over my water.
Bria: Do you need some milk?
Shelly: We can do that.
Bria: It's not gonna be gentle, it's not.
baldwins2ndgen: My phone dropped, I'm trying to talk.
Shelly: Me, I'm over here like.
baldwins2ndgen: Wait, water?
Bria: I do need some water actually.
Shelly: yeah Indeed, a reminder, water, watermelons, anything that has water in it, cucumbers.
baldwins2ndgen: A few numbers.
Shelly: um Watch the video of that man when he sings the cocoomba.
Bria: Oh yeah, cuckoo butt.
Shelly: Cocoomba.
Shelly: Water, everybody got a pee. It don't hurt nobody. Hydrate, lose weight, dont don't lubricate. and and How many guys with a glass about eight? How many glasses a day about eight?
Shelly: Okay, sorry.
Bria: The fact that you actually knew the words is just.
Shelly: I love that man.
Bria: Anyway, anyway, we're saying a lot of nonsense. Hi, we're the see next time it's been five minutes.
Shelly: Hey.
baldwins2ndgen: We are five minutes into a very short episode, and this is what we've got so far.
Bria: Do you know you have 30 minutes?
baldwins2ndgen: You have 30 minutes?
Bria: 30, 30, yes.
Shelly: Yes.
baldwins2ndgen: are Yes, 30 minutes.
Shelly: minutes? minutes. All right, we are at six minutes out of 30. OK, here we go.
Bria: Um, we have an announcement for everyone.
Shelly: um Hey, beautiful babies.
Bria: and Do I have to say?
Shelly: Was that the setup for it?
baldwins2ndgen: No, I could, I, so if you, if you read the title, also the title says farewell for now. So I want people to know that we are going on an indefinite hiatus. Our lives are packed.
baldwins2ndgen: Some of us are in grad school. Some of us are getting job promotions. Some of us are working with agents and DJ still and like living life.
Bria: ah ah
Shelly: Big car!
Bria: It's
Shelly: Yes!
baldwins2ndgen: And so it just makes a lot of sense for us to naturally progress to an ending for an now. We may or may not come back.
Shelly: Yes.
baldwins2ndgen: Don't count on it. The girls are the girls have lives to live.
Bria: that's That's what the indefinite you know is about.
baldwins2ndgen: Right, but you know something? I'm like, oh, wait it'll be it'll be like two months or three months, right? No, bitch. I i don't think that's happening.
Bria: We're not telling, we're not saying any of that.
Shelly: Yeah. So the when's the next question, just keep that tucked in your spirit because the same way you don't know when's the next is the way we don't know when's the next.
baldwins2ndgen: You know.
Bria: ah her Hold it in your heart. Yeah.
Shelly: So just hold it close.
baldwins2ndgen: Right.
Shelly: We are there in your heart. Hold it close.
baldwins2ndgen: Right.
Bria: And then re -listen to the episodes. you know i We have heard,
baldwins2ndgen: And then share them.
Bria: We've heard the episodes before we added Shelly, we're whack. But you know, you can read this.
baldwins2ndgen: Ray, Ray.
Shelly: Whoa, no, I was like this.
baldwins2ndgen: Ray Quan, Mr.
Shelly: yeah
baldwins2ndgen: Johnson, we're talking to you. And I don't usually use those names on the podcast, but I will today.
Bria: I was going to say we should shout out our faithful listeners.
Shelly: We can't completely expose everyone that we have subtly been talking about over the years.
Bria: Shout out to Yazzy, our faithful supporter.
Shelly: Yes.
baldwins2ndgen: OK.
Bria: We're so sorry. You can't listen at work anymore. I'm sorry, girl.
Shelly: Please run our episodes back. Our holiday episodes will be, you know, very important and on time.
baldwins2ndgen: i am I am so excited to read, because, okay, I will say this, and and I don't think you do, y 'all two do, but I will i will listen to the episode after a week after it went live, so I will re -listen, because I was like, we're actually really fucking funny.
Shelly: Coming up.
Shelly: No, I will listen to our episodes.
baldwins2ndgen: Like, I will listen the only had like seven views, I'm like, well, three of those are probably mine, so I don't know who the other four are, but I know what, at least three of those are mine.
Bria: We're hilarious, right?
Shelly: Yeah.
Shelly: Yeah, I was definitely locked down.
Bria: Period.
Shelly: I was listening to the episodes my okay, so um natural transition to some of the things we're gonna talk about, we're gonna do some like reflections.
Bria: Mmm.
Shelly: And if this was video based, we would toss in some memories, some old clips, we would do those things. So just visualize like what the movies do when they go back in time, like they morph back in time.
Bria: Right.
Bria: Like a montage. she Yeah, it's giving.
Shelly: Yes, there's that sepia color that's on it. There's that not black and white, but warm colors as we throw these things back.
Bria: Mhm.
Shelly: One of my favorite episodes is what we were talking about. I gotta find the actual name of it, but when we were talking about like holiday times and like queerness and we were talking about, I think it was like a queer Christmas episode.
Shelly: Like it's the most wonder, it's the most queerest time of the year.
baldwins2ndgen: one what No, it was the most wonderful Queer of the Year, I think.
Shelly: It's the most wonderful queer of the year. Yes, that one. Oh, I love that episode episode so much.
baldwins2ndgen: I feel, I know my favorite one is but Michelle, you're not gonna like it.
Bria: Oh.
baldwins2ndgen: like
Shelly: Gosh, is it that is it that is it the day of Marvel episode? Whatever. I'd love that for y 'all.
baldwins2ndgen: so
Shelly: But mind you, go no, go ahead.
Bria: oh
baldwins2ndgen: i
Shelly: let's talk Because the thing is, I actually wasn't upset. I was actually more proud of myself than anything. Y 'all were embarrassed. Y 'all were the ones like,
baldwins2ndgen: We were so embarrassed. We were like, we only gave you two movies to watch, Shelley. What happened? And you were like, I have shit to do, and I didn't have a time to watch bubbles.
Shelly: no. but The thing that I don't understand is how y 'all keep remembering it in that way and I keep remembering and in the way of y 'all gave me a list. You gave me five options but you didn't say explicitly which one was which. You gave me five options that all had sequels and said watch these and you'll be fine. So what did I do?
Shelly: I watched like five of one of them so that's how I knew everything about Avengers. I watched all of Avengers in two days but then you said watch Captain America you'll be fine.
Shelly: I watched Captain America y 'all said wrong one. I'm like how was I supposed to know there were seven Captain Americas and I watched the wrong one?
Bria: Oh, I mean, we.
Shelly: So then we when I pulled up y 'all said you're embarrassing and I said I spent 20 hours watching these movies.
Bria: We didn't talk about it. We did talk.
Shelly: Every movie was three hours long.
Bria: and We talked about.
Shelly: Okay, I'm done.
Bria: It's fine. It's fine. We're not doing that anymore because Marvel has to hang it up. um But the now they got now they got Nicki Bird and the white boy coming out soon and.
baldwins2ndgen: and I will not be watching that.
Bria: I will not be there.
Shelly: Yeah, no.
baldwins2ndgen: Agatha all along though is a very cute key. I think the girls didn't really get into it and do not let that shit flop.
Bria: I still still watch it.
baldwins2ndgen: It is so, I'm not even talking to you because we know you're not watching.
Bria: I said that I would like I just.
baldwins2ndgen: Sure, after I gave you the Disney Plus password two weeks ago, right?
Bria: I just didn't get all right. Maybe I'm just not watching a lot of TV. I just feel like I'm I really am not.
baldwins2ndgen: Maybe you're full of shit because I know who you are.
Shelly: Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, we're not doing that.
Bria: i
Shelly: I mean, honestly though, mind you, I was just about to say, I would defend both of y 'all, but it's you being like, all right, I'm done with you, on to the next.
Bria: You're always dragging my wig.
baldwins2ndgen: Shut up, good to be you could be next because I could pull on everybody away.
Bria: And I feel like we just
Bria: On to you girl.
Shelly: Like, just the same way that you could jump us by yourself, I could jump you by myself, so try it.
baldwins2ndgen: You could try, because I'm that kind of girl, you could try.
Shelly: um
Bria: um
Shelly: I was going to say something, but I'll keep it to myself.
baldwins2ndgen: Oh no, you sure you should open your mouth and say this in that episode.
Shelly: oh
baldwins2ndgen: Be bold, be brave, say it with your full chest, nigga.
Bria: Ooh, ooh, ooh, the girls are shining.
baldwins2ndgen: They are.
Shelly: it's not an another The girls are not fighting.
baldwins2ndgen: What's up, Shelly?
Shelly: All I was going to say is the way you were getting real buck talking about you could tussle, tussle back.
baldwins2ndgen: but
Shelly: I'm just saying like the way our dynamics be moving, like I could also get real buck and it could get rose up. So do it. Do as you please.
Bria: This is a lot, this is a lot.
Shelly: and tread lightly.
Bria: We didn't have to bring this energy to the last episode.
Shelly: So that's all I was saying.
baldwins2ndgen: like What's up?
Shelly: I said I was gonna keep it to myself. And y 'all said, go ahead. And I was like, no, I was gonna keep it to myself.
baldwins2ndgen: I don't know what, who's the stopping question?
Shelly: So let's indeed keep it.
Bria: I'm just gonna, oh my god.
Shelly: um There is switcheroo things that be happening. So I didn't say an actual sub, I said sub things.
Bria: I just don't understand how we end up.
baldwins2ndgen: Mm -hmm.
baldwins2ndgen: Okay.
Shelly: It could give sub.
Bria: and don't and I don't understand how we end up in this place, you know.
baldwins2ndgen: Because you only talk about a big game and don't do nothing with it.
Bria: oh
Shelly: No, no, no. I talked to Big Game, and also when I then want to follow up, you'd be like, ah, I can't believe you're serious about this.
baldwins2ndgen: That is not true.
Shelly: And I'd be like, how is?
baldwins2ndgen: And we talked about it. You are so full of shit. Shelly, I can't. Shelly, I I can't.
Shelly: I literally don't understand.
baldwins2ndgen: Shelly, please.
Shelly: We did talk about it. But then when I literally was like, OK, and what?
baldwins2ndgen: When was the end?
Bria: Ooh.
baldwins2ndgen: We just had the last discussion we had, the last full discussion. we You know what?
Shelly: All right.
baldwins2ndgen: We're not going to waste our time.
Bria: We're not going to do this.
baldwins2ndgen: We got 30 minutes.
Bria: We only have 15 minutes.
baldwins2ndgen: We got 30 minutes.
Shelly: You have 17 minutes.
Bria: 15 minutes. OK, so I was going to move on, actually. I was going to say.
Shelly: um Transition naturally to also watch the documentary. This is how the documentary starts, shenanigans.
Bria: OK, well, yeah, so I was I was going to say thinking about some of my favorite episodes, um one that
Shelly: Okay.
Bria: Y 'all just didn't get to hear, but I did enjoy the conversation. But speaking of is talking with Tyrell about their documentary because I watched it.
Bria: I was locked in. I did my research, my journalistic, you know, I was, you know, in my PR interview moment in my bag.
Shelly: uh -huh you did it i was like this
Bria: And I am really, I will say in the future, I am really excited for all of, you know, the exciting possibilities for Tyrell and their podcast.
Bria: I mean, in in their documentary and no, sorry, we're we're launching another pocket.
Shelly: I said, not breaking um yeah like not breaking up with us and you're getting married next week because now I'm ready to fight.
Bria: No, sorry.
baldwins2ndgen: Surprise bitch!
Bria: ah No, sorry.
Shelly: I said, no way.
baldwins2ndgen: so far as so Surprise Surprise bitch!
Shelly: No way you're engaged.
Bria: We're going to bring that back. I'm excited.
Shelly: a What if it's so bad?
Bria: I'm excited for. I'm excited for the future of Tyrell's documentary, which Shelly was in, and it was really great talking to y 'all about it.
Bria: But what I'm going to say, even though y 'all didn't get to hear that episode, I feel like we could circle back to that conversation, like perhaps in like a live context, a live show, you know, a live interview whenever we get an opportunity, you know, to do the documentary things.
Shelly: Ooh. Yeah. Yeah.
Bria: So if you want to see that, you want to you want to go send Tyrell some money because yeah yeah period we're trying to get film festival opportunities for my sister and yeah but I really enjoyed that also I also
Shelly: Yeah.
baldwins2ndgen: the the
Shelly: and And if you don't have it, share this episode or a share all of the information that is needed with Tyrell about how to get money. for the many things. so
Shelly: Viewing, screening, everything.
Bria: another episode that was treacherous to record.
Shelly: that
Bria: um But a conversation that I feel like was maybe better the first time was the like black mysticism and magic. that was
baldwins2ndgen: I was thinking about the episode and how I wanted to say the first one, too, was better. But Ray called us boring. And then we brought on Shelly. We were like, oh, Shelly's here. Let's be recorded. And I was like, um I let my friend.
Bria: That so rude. That's so rude. That's just, I thought we ate the first time.
baldwins2ndgen: I thought we ate the first time, too. But Ray said we were boring. And I said, oh, OK.
Bria: wow i feel personally attacked but you know it's fine but i enjoyed that episode i love talking about black speculative stuff you know still doing that thing myself so that's that's trying trying to make something happen but yeah
Shelly: i thought she i late yeah
Shelly: I thought Chiropractic was going to let it.
baldwins2ndgen: I don't know. I think there were conversations that really came out good, like deep things that came. Like I don't, yeah, like Shelly said, I think there were things out of, like I learned, I don't know if you said this on a podcast or before we hit record.
Shelly: Not yet. No, we said it before here. Yeah.
baldwins2ndgen: Oh, okay. But yeah, there are things about people, like about both of you that I learned that I wouldn't have learned. I don't think if we didn't do this podcast,
Shelly: hu
baldwins2ndgen: And so in that vein, like episode wise, we got some cute ones, but like in that vein, like I, this is gonna this is not funny. I feel like it's funny for me. Well, I'll explain. I feel like what I learned about Bria in particular,
baldwins2ndgen: is that, no, it's not like, look, she's jealous of me and Shelly, that's the truth. She's jealous of me and Shelly. She wants to be a part of the group, and she can't be, and that's why she's mad.
baldwins2ndgen: This, this, this, me and Shelly, this, for four years has been happening, and you're upset because you missed your opportunity to get all it is.
Bria: I don't want to be around for this at all. Nobody believes, nobody believes your fake will they want this.
baldwins2ndgen: You missed your opportunity to get all of it.
Shelly: Wait, there was an opportunity? Y 'all didn't tell me?
Bria: Nobody, nobody, nobody believes, your fake no, no, it gives good Judy.
baldwins2ndgen: No, that was an opportunity.
Shelly: I'm over here like, what? This whole time? Y 'all were together in the past and never told me.
baldwins2ndgen: I know. Yeah.
baldwins2ndgen: It is very what they want, though.
Bria: nobody believes y 'all fake will they won't they in the first place this is just very unserious
Shelly: Shut up, it's the rules they won't say.
baldwins2ndgen: But you know what I realized? I have that relationship with a lot of people right now, so it's not just Shelly.
Shelly: Wow, you know what I know, and I did acknowledge at the beginning of the documentary, is that that's the reality. And that's how we end up in the position we're in now. Because when I'd be like, oh, I'm serious, they'd be like, well, actually, stand in line, boo. Go around the corner and get some popcorn. And I'm like, all right.
Bria: Damn, not...
Shelly: um
baldwins2ndgen: That's not true, but that's
Shelly: What? How do you say it's true? And then say, actually, remake.
baldwins2ndgen: actually not true because no one has helped me seriously.
Bria: That's hilarious.
baldwins2ndgen: But again, Shelly, you do this all the time.
Bria: Ugh!
baldwins2ndgen: You go on this podcast and try to spend this narrative that I don't be paying you no attention, but it's bullshit.
Bria: Not spitting this narrative!
Shelly: No, no, I never say you don't pay me any attention. I say that we have a lot of attention and then it gets very like scary once both of us have the attention.
baldwins2ndgen: also so You also so busy. You be so busy out here in these streets. You don't got time for me. You don't have time to respond to a text message or a phone call at this point. So how are you going to be like, oh, I'm trying to get a piece. A piece of what? A piece of what, Shelly?
baldwins2ndgen: A piece of what?
Shelly: We'll be on the phone for seven hours.
Bria: right ah right ah right that's what You That's what you take away from what you learned.
Shelly: Okay, um see.
baldwins2ndgen: When we do talk on the phone, when we do.
Shelly: That's cool.
baldwins2ndgen: Oh, yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
Bria: That's what you learned from us.
baldwins2ndgen: No, no.
Shelly: i'm I'm literally only doing this because we have 30 minutes, so that's the only reason why I'm backing down.
baldwins2ndgen: I think i can no i can go again.
Bria: We have 10 minutes. We have 10 minutes, actually.
Shelly: But we have 10 minutes. Do you understand? You have 10 minutes?
Bria: Okay, so Tyra, what is your actual answer for what you learned about this?
baldwins2ndgen: Well, Lauren, I learned that community can look vastly different than you expect if you're open to the possibilities. Like I was like, I never, me and Brie were already close and me and Shelly were, I think we were getting closer, but I think that this for me was like, oh, I actually know these people.
baldwins2ndgen: Like, I already knew Brea, but i like I got to know Brea.
Shelly: ah
baldwins2ndgen: I'm like, I already knew Shelly, but I got to know Shelly. Like, Shelly wasn't just the person I was calling for DJ sets and being like, I'm gonna be like, hey, I got to water cash, please come save my life, because the person we actually, like, I got to water cash, please come help me, because we struggle, and please.
Shelly: The water cash would always lead the conversation.
baldwins2ndgen: It's actually, baby, every time.
Shelly: I got a water cash I need you tomorrow.
baldwins2ndgen: Every time.
baldwins2ndgen: You'll be like, okay, well, let's put a second together, please, please. um But like I got to actually get to know the people I was on like the podcast with, right? So like even like when me and Shelly had discussions about like ancestry and like what we wanted to be, but but what like our alters and like discussions about like queerness, or even learning like about talk about like Rhea and like your interests and like how dedicated you really are to like speculative fiction and how amazing your writing is.
Bria: Thank you.
baldwins2ndgen: Like I knew those things right but here you I've never I had never heard you talk about those things until this like not talk about it talk about it in depth right until we had this podcast where we had a space to do that.
baldwins2ndgen: So I think yeah I think and through that right I think I built like we built community. It's not an always consistent community but it's a community nonetheless
Bria: but we hear outside of the podcast too. So, you know, okay.
baldwins2ndgen: That's true. No, that is true. we have We have seen each other and we do hang out.
Bria: We just not always consistent for y 'all, but that's okay. That's okay. That's okay. Cause you can still, you can still follow us and keep up with us and the things that we have going on.
Bria: who um Well, that's really, that's really beautiful. um I was going to say, As far as things that I have learned, I feel like, you know, I know both of y 'all for a very long time.
Bria: I'm sorry.
Shelly: to say you know me for a long time it's hilarious they probably put us in the same crib yeah
Bria: This is not me for a long time.
Bria: I'm sorry. Woo! 30 years! That's crazy. Um, but yeah, but You know, I feel like Tyrell, our friendship has transformed so much in the past. I don't even how long, 15 ish years that we've known each other. And, you know, you've seen me through my raggediest days. And here we are, you know, and we've done so many things with from Baldwin and like organizing, you know, events and stuff. And then
Bria: you know, doing this, and I feel like I've learned so much more. I feel like this has been like a space, the podcast specifically has been a space where we've been more vulnerable with each other than we are usually, which is like, which is maybe a drag for the both of us, but I feel like it's been, it's opened up opportunities for us to have conversations.
baldwins2ndgen: My wig!
Bria: um about, you know, like being black and queer and like, I feel like I've learned so much about being black and queer from you since, you know, since I was a wee, I don't know, hurricane. Um, and, um,
Bria: Michelle Lee, I feel like, yeah, I feel like we just, I don't know, we just never really like talked that much about like a lot of things as far as like gender you know um identity and expression.
Bria: at like Not in depth um before like having this podcast.
Shelly: Yeah, I know that.
Bria: And as like the self -appointed queer cousins, like I feel like
Bria: I feel like this space was really important for us to like share, you know, that specific life experience with each other where we don't always get to do that around our family being the way that it is.
Shelly: Right. Right. Oh my gosh.
Bria: So, know, yeah. So here we are. and And I've just also enjoyed, you know, adding you to the podcast. I've enjoyed those moments where we're like, oh, my God, like my dad is a hotel and you like know what that means.
Shelly: Yeah. once
Bria: or sort like whatever.
Shelly: um Wait, no, go ahead. I'm so excited for me to talk about my part.
Bria: No, no, I was just saying like, it's just fun for me to be able to point to specific experiences from our family and then you understanding where I'm coming from.
Bria: So yeah.
Shelly: Yes, yes, I should have put that part in our caps. So that's actually number three on my list. I was making a short list of things that I've learned and I literally put family. And um so I'll start there and underneath it says Ken Kiki about family. um And it just made me feel so good that yes, particularly because like when we would We were cross -referenced with our Venn diagram comparing and contrasting what it means to be in queer community and then what it means to be in our shenanigans of family, particularly the very cis men, cis -hotep men, because it's not just one of them. um There's a collection of them. um They've learned from each other. There's multiple generations of them.
Shelly: And um because we can cross -reference that and really acknowledge where it has come from and the problematic patriarchy that has been embedded within our family, I'm just like, wow, this feels great to talk about it. Because very similarly, like what you're saying, there aren't spaces really for us to be the queer cousins that we already are, like within the family. um Yeah, there isn't space for that, especially because nobody else really views us as those like, whatever. It doesn't matter how they view us, it's how we view ourselves. So we are having, I feel like we're having such a beautiful queer experience that I feel like it's being protected and preserved through our connections. And as we were deepening the connections, I feel like there's so much that was able to be like liberated for me because I think the dynamic of like when we have chosen community, but then also
Shelly: Like you being a blood relative of mine, that combination coming together and being like, just because we're related doesn't mean that we are in community with one another. And just because we're related also doesn't mean like we key key on the regular or we talk about things. um But for me, I'm like, this is so beautiful. And I'm just honored to have these community spaces that we've had.
Shelly: in these spaces that we've had to really unpack and talk about things, because we cross -reference all of our experiences for fit with family. um All of us have talked about things that had to do with family.
Shelly: And my favorite part is that this felt like a sacred place that we're just like, whatever, they're not going to listen anyway. So let's really talk about what we really want to talk about, because guess what? They're goofy asses don't even pay attention to us.
Shelly: So even if we sent them the link, they wouldn't even listen.
Bria: They don't know how to work Spotify. They don't know how to work Spotify. So it's cool.
Shelly: so So for me, I think that was such a sacred moment when we'll be like, should we talk about it? No, let's talk about it. So I think that was, it felt good to be able to be in these spaces that felt protected and preserved. The first thing on my list, it says sweet things. And what that made me think of is how important and how beautiful it felt to have so many sweet moments with one another.
Shelly: I feel like in talking about how maybe chaotic, like we've been doing this episode, we've been doing this podcast through moving, through school, through all types of things happening in our lives, that when we've had these episodes, even if there were boxes around me, even if there was literal chaos happening that day, there always were moments of like, wow, that was a sweet time. That was a sweet time to stop. And even if we go like,
Shelly: We have this small time window, we need to do it. Sometimes I've been like, actually, I don't need to do any of that the rest of that stuff. I need to just sit and reflect in what we talked about and really be present. So I've learned how to be more present like for these important conversations that we're having. I learned that sweet things are necessary for my life, and I've just been reminded of the sweetness.
Shelly: um that we are all deserving of, particularly in conversations of just being able to talk about what's coming up for us. I always appreciated any type of ancestral conversations we had, particularly a conversation that Tyrell and I have had about the altar. And like when we really sat there and chit -chatted for hours and just like our key key moments. I also particularly said Bria is a journalist like for real for real and I said y 'all be really out here journalizing. That's a word because y 'all I have learned that y 'all are really journalists from real for real like that was something that I was like yeah that was good.
Shelly: Wow. So I do want to acknowledge that because if not for that, our conversations also would not or could not have been curated in the way that they were. So very good for that. I've learned to slow down a lot more, even if I didn't always do it in these moments, like during our conversations, I like have to slow down during these times. So I've just learned,
Shelly: the necessary possibilities of sweet things existing and the sweetness of being in community with y 'all and that we can have conversations that feel heavy. And um I think they can feel heavy while simultaneously feeling light, I think in some ways. Yeah. And I learned that I love y 'all real deep.
Shelly: because it's a real for I really didn't. I haven't had many of these common spaces that we have on the podcast. with y any
Bria: ah Wow, purr.
baldwins2ndgen: her
Bria: Well, maybe we should all be like, ooh, what are we, but where should you find us if you just, you know, want to stay connected and such?
Bria: Or will they find you? Maybe they don't, and that's okay.
Shelly: If you want to find me, I'm in the bed.
Bria: Okay, but Shelly is doing a lot.
Shelly: I'm sleeping. You cannot join me then.
Bria: Shelly. Shelly.
Shelly: I might accept cuddle applications closer to my birth.
Bria: Okay,
Bria: okay we gotta to get to cuffing season.
Shelly: You feel me?
Bria: Shelly is out here spinning sometimes, though. And I don't always know when it's happening, but
Shelly: I don't always know when it happened. My last two gigs, they called me 24 hours beforehand.
Bria: That's crazy.
Shelly: um there
Bria: get Get Shelly to spin for Doa Chi, you know?
Shelly: Yeah.
Bria: but Let's do that.
Shelly: Yeah. Let's do things. Let's go on the road.
Bria: Follow ShellySpin at Shelly .Spin.
baldwins2ndgen: At shell spin.
Shelly: ah so Show that spin.
baldwins2ndgen: It's not a spin, right?
Shelly: There we go.
Bria: Yes.
baldwins2ndgen: Because I've also made the particular one. I'm like, where is Shelly?
Bria: Where, Shelly?
baldwins2ndgen: Shelly is not on Instagram is that name because it is not their name to be clear.
Shelly: Yeah,
Bria: That is not, yeah.
Shelly: yeah
Bria: Shell .spin.
Shelly: felt that spin and I will be posting more again. I'm just teaching third graders so gotta give me some time to get back into posting.
baldwins2ndgen: But I think after this, I'm going to get rid of my Instagram because I have not actually wanted to keep it and I've wanted to get it for a long time.
Shelly: her
baldwins2ndgen: And even when I have an Instagram, I would say, I don't want to. I was told I had to. We were starting a podcast. People need to find me. But nobody wanted to find me. I've had the same 82 followers since, I don't know, 2022.
baldwins2ndgen: I didn't need to come back.
baldwins2ndgen: I didn't need to come back. Uh, I don't, and this is probably an off camera. I mean, an off, you know, pod discussion, but I do think we should talk, we should talk about what we were doing with the Instagram because I was like, get rid of that shit too.
Shelly: Uh -huh.
baldwins2ndgen: But then I thought about it and Bria was like, we should archive it. And I was like, okay, you archive it and also turn it off because it can be true. Can two things be true?
Bria: I don't know the technicalities, I don't know.
Shelly: You can just log out. Turn it off as wild.
baldwins2ndgen: Okay. but my told what the body
Shelly: Just for sign out.
Bria: My role is like nuke that shit, nuke that shit, blow it up.
Shelly: And it doesn't work the same.
baldwins2ndgen: I'm like, make that shit.
Shelly: Actually, can you take it off the market? like No, just sign out.
baldwins2ndgen: Yeah, I'm like, you can you can we just like, can we very a cutely like, can we very cutely like archive it, up but make it like not open to the public?
Bria: That's crazy.
Bria: It's not cute though.
Bria: It's not very demure.
baldwins2ndgen: I don't know.
Bria: Well, we can figure it out.
Shelly: That sounds like deactivate.
Bria: We can figure out the possibilities.
baldwins2ndgen: Oh, oh, can we do that? Is that permanent?
Shelly: I don't know, we gotta click around.
Bria: i I don't know.
Shelly: I don't know if it's forbidden or not.
Bria: Yeah, I have to do some Googles. um Um, for me, I am B, the letter B, the orator everywhere. Um, and I don't know. I just, I talk my most nonsense on Twitter. Um, and everywhere else I'm kind of just not, I'm just like scrolling around. Um, if I get, if I sell a book, I'll, I'll let y 'all know. We, we,
Shelly: When? When?
Bria: If I still, if somebody decides they want to give me some money, then I'll let y 'all know for sure. But you can follow me there. My website, you know, I'd be posting writer things for DarkFigures .com.
Shelly: how
Bria: and Just pray I get some money, y 'all. Hide your money, it's broke niggas around.
Shelly: yeah
baldwins2ndgen: but
Bria: The broke niggas, the broke niggas is me. So, you know.
baldwins2ndgen: um I will also say, as because this is obviously a wrap up, I will also say that
Bria: Mm hmm.
baldwins2ndgen: And maybe I could have, I mean, I didn't add it, but maybe I could have added it as part of the reason, well, i no one even, act like we didn't even talk about like what, what we didn't talk about what was happening. But part of the reason why I um have, I'm also happy for this break is because ah the person who used to help us put it together and we're in our Instagram page is no longer with us here.
Bria: Mm hmm.
baldwins2ndgen: in the physical realm, on Earth, if you will.
Bria: Mm hmm.
baldwins2ndgen: And so I realized that without Aaron's hope, our following for Baldwin was abysmal before Aaron came along.
baldwins2ndgen: It was so bad. It was so bad. It was being a breeder and it was a disaster. We were not Instagram baddies.
Bria: Listen.
baldwins2ndgen: We don't go fuck about that shit. It wasn't working.
Bria: We don't we don't know how to edit none of this shit, y 'all.
baldwins2ndgen: We don't, right?
Bria: I'm gonna be so real with y 'all.
baldwins2ndgen: We don't. And I was so upset because I thought oh i thought about that too anyway. oh
Bria: Cut that out, Aaron.
Shelly: i am
Bria: Aaron's cutting it out. Aaron is.
Shelly: Right now, as we speak.
Bria: Yes. but Right now.
baldwins2ndgen: Yeah. um So yeah, I also think it's good to have a break because I don't think I'm ready. I don't know how I would be able to continue to do this without At least Aaron pretended to edit the episodes.
Shelly: Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. We have an episode that, oh no, there was an episode we still had. I was just acknowledging that we didn't didn't do anything with. We can always toss that to them while they wait.
baldwins2ndgen: The of a holiday one.
Bria: We can, I mean, it's about this, it's about this episode. It is.
Shelly: That's what I'm saying. Yeah, take it.
Bria: We could. We could, you know, I was just gonna say, shout out, shout out, you know, ah not to get you in your feelings, but shout out to Erin because Erin put together a lot of amazing, iconic logos um and such for us um and like graphics and stuff.
Shelly: Yes.
Bria: And also the like, I don't even remember what my little like sound snippet was that we used to use.
Shelly: Yes, at the beginning.
baldwins2ndgen: Oh my god, yeah.
Bria: I wanna, I wanna find it.
Shelly: ah That was so good.
Bria: Maybe if we find it, maybe if we find it, we'll, we'll put, we'll post that last part, you know.
baldwins2ndgen: I love it.
Shelly: Oh, that was so good. I love that Aaron did this. This was one of the best things, that little gushy sound.
Bria: The little gushy sound is, the gush is crazy.
baldwins2ndgen: Oh my god.
Shelly: re That gush.
baldwins2ndgen: I hate it here.
Bria: And I,
Bria: I just want to say I love that this is our name.
Shelly: I loved watching that.
Bria: I love that this is our name. I love that Aaron leaned into it. It was really fun.
baldwins2ndgen: And I was outvoted. I was like, I don't, this shouldn't be our name.
Bria: Because it was iconic and Aaron showed why it was.
baldwins2ndgen: And Aaron was like, this is the name. And Brielle was like, this is the name. And I was like, no, it's not. And they were like, yeah, it is.
Bria: ah Yes, it is.
baldwins2ndgen: I was like, why I started this? So if my shit counts for two votes, they were like, even if it was two votes, you still, is you it it as it's still a tie.
Bria: That's not you still not winning like that's just not it.
baldwins2ndgen: Like, you still didn't finish. I was like.
Shelly: it the so its ah Yeah, when I first got on here the very first thing I said on my first guest episode I think I was like Y 'all are kind of nasty. I think y 'all are nasty or y 'all freaky. I don't know. And then nobody acknowledged me and I was like, all right, whatever.
baldwins2ndgen: um But yeah, I say all of that to say that there is no way I i was prepared to continue recording this without him. And so, yeah, I'm just, I'm grateful, really grateful for my friend in the very short time we had together. And this was correct.
baldwins2ndgen: This feels correct. She may not feel that way, but I don't care. It feels correct to me.
Bria: Right. Imagine she's like arguing with you right now. Like, like, bitch, you need to put another episode out next month.
baldwins2ndgen: Like, why would you?
Bria: Like, what's, you know,
baldwins2ndgen: Well, look, we again, we got two episodes that are unpublished. So we might.
Bria: You know, who knows?
Shelly: Yeah.
Bria: Who knows, y 'all? Maybe you might get a cute little little bonus holiday, you know?
Shelly: Right.
baldwins2ndgen: You might. We might decide to come back and say, hey, it's December.
Shelly: yeah literally
baldwins2ndgen: Y 'all want to talk shit? Oh, I guess. You know?
Bria: We gonna pop.
Shelly: i will be a teacher all school for three weeks so right
baldwins2ndgen: Also, I talk shit about how that wasn't going to happen. But if it do happen, clock it here.
Bria: Don't say nothing.
baldwins2ndgen: have
Bria: Don't say nothing. Just be happy. Be grateful.
baldwins2ndgen: ah
Bria: That's it.
baldwins2ndgen: i i I do think in a few months I might be able to pull myself, muster myself together to do a little something for the girls. But for our still seven listeners, shout out to y 'all too. It's only seven of y be five of y 'all, four of y 'all now, who knows?
Bria: Thank you. Thank you.
baldwins2ndgen: But if you're still here, we love you.
Bria: Mm -hmm.
Shelly: t
Bria: Love you, Deep.
baldwins2ndgen: All right, y 'all, it's 40 minutes.
Shelly: um inside
baldwins2ndgen: Do know went over by minutes?
Bria: Like usual, we always go over time.
baldwins2ndgen: 10 minutes?
Bria: Always going over time, but, you know, that felt part of the course.
baldwins2ndgen: Yeah, on brand for us.
Bria: Mm -hmm.
Shelly: yeah okay.
baldwins2ndgen: All right. Well, with that being said, I guess we'll see y 'all soon -ish.
Shelly: Yeah.
Bria: We'll see. We'll be around. We'll see y 'all sometime.
baldwins2ndgen: Cute.
Shelly: yeah yeah stay tuned keep it locked yeah oh
baldwins2ndgen: All right. Right. Keep it cute.
Bria: oh o ah oh ah o ah
Shelly: um

Shelly: all ah oh
Shelly: ah
Bria: Goodbye. Goodbye. Goodbye. ah
Shelly: I can't even describe it. Okay, describes it. um Brown skin, say don't, a black person with shortcut hair completely extends arms all the way open, hands are open, begins to convulse and pulsate to the beat that is pumping in their queer spirit.
baldwins2ndgen: Jeez.
Bria: Mmm, ah, ah, ah, ah.
Shelly: and
baldwins2ndgen: I'm... Okay, on that note. Bye!
