Monthly memberships to support this event can be purchased on my site, here: https://www.inthefamilywaycoaching.com/offering_packages

Today's reading we will cover Luke Chapter 7:36-50, Chapter 8:1-3,  Matthew Chapter 12:22-37, and Mark Chapter 3:20-30.

Today' we will ask and read  the answer to the question: Is there any sin we can commit for which God will not forgive us? In our reading we will read about Jesus's feet being washed by a woman's tears and his feet anointed by her perfume. We will also read about a man being healed when Jesus cast out bad spirits from him and the leaders who were there accused Jesus of doing so with the power of satan. Jesus replied that no house divided against itself can stand, and the same is true with satan if he casts himself out. He is fighting against himself. Jesus was casting out bad spirits by the power of the Holy Spirit and the leaders calling the Holy Spirit bad was speaking against the Holy Spirit and it was a sin for which no one would be forgiven, ever. The Holy Spirit's role is to convict people of sin. He shows us when we are doing something wrong. When the Holy Spirit leads people to Jesus and yet they choose to deny the truth. When we get to heaven we will meet Jesus and God. At that time we will either be welcomed into their kingdom or held accountable for not believing in and obeying God's Holy Spirit who has been calling them to Him. God does not desire for anyone to die. God desires for EVERYONE to come to Him and experience eternal life with Him.

As part of our daily application we will also talk about not judging others for being "sinful" as because all people have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. In our reading today the woman was not named but simply described as "a sinful woman." Jesus taught us that those who have been forgiven of a lot of sins have a lot of love for Him, whereas those who have not been forgiven for many sins do not. It can help our humility to ask the Holy Spirit to reveal our own sinful nature to us so that we may recognize the fullness of how much Jesus has forgiven us of so that we may also have a lot of love for Him.

00:00:42
Speaker

00:00:56
Speaker
And I think I'll be a little bit sad when that happens.

Anointing of Jesus and Parable of Forgiveness

00:01:01
Speaker
Well, today we are going to be reading about the first time Jesus was anointed by a woman while he was at a dinner event. And then we are going to be answering the question.
00:01:16
Speaker
Is there such a sin that you cannot be forgiven for?
00:01:24
Speaker
We will let you know during this reading and we will talk about it afterwards. Is there any sin for which God will not forgive you for?
00:01:36
Speaker
ah right, well, let's begin our reading today. Our first section is entitled Perfume.
00:01:45
Speaker
Now there was a Jewish leader named Simon and he asked Jesus to come to dinner at his house. So Jesus went and he sat down at Simon's table. Now there was a sinful woman in town and she heard that Jesus was having dinner at Simon's house.
00:02:04
Speaker
So she went there. She took a beautiful stone jar with her. The jar was filled with sweet smelling perfume. The woman went into the house.
00:02:17
Speaker
She stood close to Jesus at his feet, and then she began to cry. her tears dripped on Jesus's feet. They made his feet wet, so she wiped his feet with her long hair.
00:02:34
Speaker
Then she kissed Jesus's feet. She let perfume flow out of the jar onto his feet.
00:02:43
Speaker
Now, Simon saw this and he said to himself, Jesus can't really be a prophet. If he was, he would know this is a sinful woman.
00:02:55
Speaker
Jesus said, Simon, I want to tell you something. Tell me, teacher, said Simon. Two men borrowed money from another man, said Jesus.
00:03:08
Speaker
One man borrowed 500 pieces of silver, of money, rather, and the other man bother borrowed 50 pieces of money. Now the time came to pay the money back, but neither of them could pay it back.
00:03:23
Speaker
The man who let them borrow the money said, that was okay, I won't make you pay me back.
00:03:29
Speaker
Now, which man loved him more? What do you think?
00:03:37
Speaker
The man who borrowed the most money, said Simon. He would be the most thankful and he would love him more. Is that what you said? If you did, you're right, said Jesus.
00:03:50
Speaker
Then he turned to the woman. See this woman, he said to Simon. She wet my feet with her tears and she wiped my feet.
00:04:02
Speaker
with her hair. She kissed my feet. She put perfume on my feet too. You did not even give me water to wash my feet.
00:04:14
Speaker
You did not welcome me with a kiss when I came in, said Jesus, and you did not put oil on my head. This woman has lots of love, said Jesus.
00:04:29
Speaker
She had many sins, but they have been forgiven. Some people haven't been forgiven for very much, so they don't love very much.
00:04:40
Speaker
Then Jesus said to the woman, Your sins are forgiven.
00:04:47
Speaker
Now other people at Simon's house began to talk among themselves. Who is this man? they asked. He even forgives people's sins. Jesus talked to the woman.
00:05:01
Speaker
He said, Go in shalom. Your faith has saved you.

Jesus' Ministry and Teachings

00:05:10
Speaker
A pack of snakes.
00:05:13
Speaker
Jesus went from town to town and he taught the good news about God's kingdom. His 12 special friends went with him and some women went with him too.
00:05:24
Speaker
Jesus had made many of them well. Mary Magdalene was with Jesus, and seven bad spirits had come out of her. Joanna was with Jesus.
00:05:36
Speaker
Her husband was in charge of King Herod's whole house. A woman named Susanna was with Jesus, and there were many others. These women spent their own money to help Jesus.
00:05:52
Speaker
They helped him and his friends get things they needed.
00:05:58
Speaker
Jesus and his friends went to eat. A crowd began to gather around and it got so crowded that Jesus and his friends couldn't eat. Then some people brought in a man controlled by a bad spirit.
00:06:15
Speaker
Bad spirits, plural. He couldn't see and he couldn't speak. But Jesus made the man well again. And then he could see and talk.
00:06:28
Speaker
The people were surprised and they said, could Jesus really be God's promised one? The one God promised to send?
00:06:39
Speaker
The Jewish leaders heard about this and they said, Jesus gets power from the prince of bad spirits. That is how he sends spirits away. and Jesus knew what they were thinking and Jesus said, what if a kingdom fights against itself?
00:06:57
Speaker
It cannot last long. What if a city or a family fights against itself? It will be torn down. What if Satan sends Satan away?
00:07:09
Speaker
Then he fights against himself, and how could his kingdom last? You say my power comes from bad spirits, said Jesus. You say that's how I send bad spirits away.
00:07:22
Speaker
Then how do your people send bad spirits away? I send bad spirits away by God's spirit. And that means that God's kingdom has come.
00:07:37
Speaker
If you are not with me, you are against me, said Jesus. And you can choose to work with me. If you don't, your work, if you don't choose to work with me.
00:07:54
Speaker
You can choose to work with me. If you don't, then you choose to work against me.
00:08:00
Speaker
People will be forgiven for every sin. But what if they say the Holy Spirit is a bad spirit? They will not be forgiven. Anybody who speaks against me will be forgiven.
00:08:15
Speaker
But anybody who speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be. Not now. Not ever. Jesus said this because of what they said.
00:08:27
Speaker
They said he was controlled by a bad spirit. Then Jesus said, make a tree good and then its fruit will be good. Or make a tree bad and then its fruit will be bad.
00:08:42
Speaker
The fruit shows what kind of tree it is. You are just a pack of snakes, said Jesus. You are full of sin, so how can you say anything good?
00:08:55
Speaker
The mouth says what comes from the heart. Good things come from good hearts, said Jesus. Sin comes from sinful hearts. Someday God will judge the world and people will have to tell why they said words without thinking.
00:09:12
Speaker
And you will be made clean from sin because of your words, or you will be dirty from sin because of your words.

Concerns About Jesus' Teachings

00:09:21
Speaker
Jesus' family heard about what he said, so they went to take charge of him. And they said, he must be out of his mind.
00:09:31
Speaker
And that is the end of our reading today.
00:09:37
Speaker
Did you see the answer to our question? Is there any sin for which God will not forgive? Yes. We cannot do what is called blaspheme against the Holy Spirit.
00:09:53
Speaker
That means to speak badly, to accuse the Holy Spirit of being bad. The other way that we are blaspheming against the Holy Spirit is when the Holy Spirit leads us to believe in God, and yet we simply choose not to, and we turn away from him, and we refuse to have anything to do with him.
00:10:17
Speaker
We make that choice, and that is the choice that we make when we go through life, and we choose not to accept Jesus as our Savior, and not to receive God's Holy Spirit.
00:10:30
Speaker
So therefore, when we get to God, we will not be forgiven of our sins. And we have turned away the Holy Spirit.
00:10:42
Speaker
The Holy Spirit's job is to convict us of sin, to tell us that we are doing something wrong. Some people might call it a conscience, but that's the Holy Spirit's job.
00:10:53
Speaker
And when he tells us, makes it clear to us that there is a God, and yet we choose not to obey and we choose not to believe and say that that is not something I want to do, then God allows us to have that choice and he will not forgive us for that choice.
00:11:11
Speaker
When we see God and come face to face with Jesus and God, we don't get a second chance to change our mind and say, oh, I see, now I believe.

Unforgivable Sin and Love

00:11:21
Speaker
So that is the sin that cannot be forgiven.
00:11:28
Speaker
That's something to think about.
00:11:32
Speaker
That was a tough one, huh? Very heavy. i wanted to talk a little bit about the woman that poured the perfume out on Jesus.
00:11:44
Speaker
This was done actually more than once. And this was the first occasion that it happened. So it was not Mary, this woman is unnamed. So this is not the time when ah later on, when we will read that ah Mary does that and Judas will complain that the money should have been spent, ah that the perfume should have been sold and the money given to the poor.
00:12:09
Speaker
And that is not this occasion. Do know what I just find really interesting about that story is that apparently she just walked into this dinner. Was anybody just welcome? I mean, it seemed like everybody was welcome at these dinners.
00:12:23
Speaker
I don't know how this happened. People just were allowed to go in and this Pharisee, Simon, he was bothered by the fact that there was a sinful woman in his home. Well, quite frankly, all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. So he himself was a sinner too.
00:12:40
Speaker
But we have a tendency to place judgment on people that they're more sinful than we are. And that's what Jesus was teaching teaching us the other day when he says, do not blame others or we will be blamed.
00:12:52
Speaker
We don't get to judge others. And that's exactly what Simon was doing. He was judging this woman. All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. And as human beings, we tend to place judgment.
00:13:05
Speaker
severity on sins. But the fact is, is that no sin is greater than another, other than the fact that of blaspheming the Holy Spirit. Jesus said today that even if we were to speak against him, that will still be forgiven if we come to know him and and we've accepted him.
00:13:26
Speaker
If we like look at Paul, he was speaking against Jesus and yet he was forgiven. So there is no severity or level to sins. We'd love to think that way. We love to think that murder is worse and it's a terrible thing to do, but God views all sin as sin.
00:13:49
Speaker
yeah There are not some sins that are better or worse than others. And that can be a hard teaching too, is that God says that everybody has sinned and fallen short of his glory.
00:14:04
Speaker
So that's why we all need Jesus, even Simon today in our story. And that's why Jesus told him, he said, if you're not with me, you're against me. And that's why he told Simon that teaching about those who have been forgiven much love much.
00:14:21
Speaker
And we know that to be true. If we have ah committed a lot of sins and we feel very guilty about that, then knowing that Jesus has forgiven us for that great amount of sin,
00:14:36
Speaker
We will appreciate him more. But if we don't feel like, oh, i'm I've been a good person and and i don't really do much, and but I need Jesus anyways, then we may have a tendency to be arrogant and less loving because we don't really feel like we got a lot out of the deal.
00:14:54
Speaker
But the truth is, is we we really do. there's no um There's nothing that can separate us from the love of God, which is in Jesus. And When we have a recognition of how much we actually sin instead of being proud and realize that we sin quite frequently with our thoughts. Look at all the things that Jesus is teaching us with our thoughts.
00:15:22
Speaker
If we even think about things and we have done so in our heart, if we take the time to examine ourselves and ask the Holy Spirit to examine us and reveal to us these things, it it can be very humbling. And then ah you will be brought to a greater love in Jesus.
00:15:42
Speaker
Because Jesus tells us that those who have been forgiven for much love much.
00:15:49
Speaker
there you go. Those are our daily application today. One is to ah take seriously ah our forgiveness and to also make sure that um we are believers so that we do not blaspheme the Holy Spirit.
00:16:07
Speaker
As you are watching, you may not yet be a believer in Jesus. And we want you to know that it is a serious thing that you have your life to make that decision.
00:16:18
Speaker
But once you have left the physical realm and entered the spiritual realm and transitioned to that, then there will be no second opportunity. you would be have You will be considered as having turned away and denied the Holy Spirit because the truth was shown to you.

Call to Believe and Engage

00:16:37
Speaker
So it doesn't sound like we're ending on a very positive note, but it we want everybody to know too that when we do accept Jesus as our Savior and believe in God and Jesus and the Holy Spirit, God fills us with his Holy Spirit.
00:16:55
Speaker
So we become filled with the Holy Spirit. We become one with God. And that's a very important thing. That is where God writes the law in our heart.
00:17:06
Speaker
And... he He is having a relationship with us by placing his spirit in us. And it's not a bad spirit. The Holy spirit is a good spirit, a very good spirit. It is God's spirit.
00:17:19
Speaker
God is love.
00:17:22
Speaker
So I hope that you feel we've ended on a little bit of a better note there, ah a happier note. So if you if you don't already believe you can, you can make that choice to be with Jesus. As he said, you've to, uh,
00:17:35
Speaker
If you're for him, then you can work with him. And I hope that you will make that choice to work with him. And then you too will know his light within you. So if you have if few recognize that God has lit your light in today's reading today, then I would ask that you click that light button so we can draw other people to hearing this important message to know that it is a very serious thing to deny and reject the Holy Spirit within their lifetime.
00:18:05
Speaker
ah because it's not something that can be undone. It won't be forgiven now or ever. And we don't want that to happen. God desires everyone to come to him. He does not want anybody to make that choice.
00:18:18
Speaker
So thank you for joining me today. i hope you have a fantastic rest of your day, whatever day you get around to watching or listening to this August 27th daily reading out of our Day by Day Kids Bible.
00:18:31
Speaker
And guess what? I'll be here again to do it all with you tomorrow. See you then.
