Thank you for joining me as we both count the omer today AND have our  daily Bible reading session! As promised, here is the link for a  downloadable devotional if you would like to count the Omer for yourself:  https://www.shoreshdavid.org/download/counting-the-omer-booklet/

Today we have a double dose of blessing as we learn about the connection  between the days of Passover, the 50 days later that God gave us the Torah, the counting of the 50 days of Omer, and the day of Pentecost, the giving of the Holy Spirit to the first disciples, that came 50 days after Jesus rose from the grave!

Then, in our proverbs reading today we will read the topics of:  Love, Hate, and Caring, Self Control and Pride, and Anger, Waiting, and Selfishness. In our discussion we will talk about how love covers a multitude of wrongs, God IS love, Jesus commands us to love one another, and how this ties into our proverbs today to not be happy when we see others getting into trouble.

God is ALREADY multiplying our blessings in this time of counting! I can't wait to see what else he multiplies!

Introduction and Daily Bible Reading

00:00:02
Speaker
there everybody, today is Tuesday. It's April 15th, 2025, and you're here with Robin at In The Family Way Coaching. We are here for our daily Bible reading today.
00:00:13
Speaker
As you know, we are reading through the Bible this year using the Day by Day Kids Bible, and it's been written by Karen Henley. Oh, look at that, upside down. For those of you on the video.
00:00:27
Speaker
Always good little laugh there. And if you are following along with your calendar, it's time to get that out and put your sticker on for the day, or however you are marking off your calendar, because you are about to hear the Bible today.
00:00:42
Speaker
Yep, I got it on there. Yay!

Listener Shoutout and Jewish Festival Insights

00:00:45
Speaker
We are going to start with something a little different, but before we do, I want to welcome everybody here, whether you are listening on your favorite podcasting app, or whether you are watching the video somewhere.
00:00:56
Speaker
One of the things that i I want to do is I want to make a special shout out to my listener or listeners in Vietnam. I have a looks like regular listener in Vietnam via the Apple Music.
00:01:08
Speaker
And i it's not me you're listening to. It's you're listening for God's word. So sorry about that. But thank you so much for finding this event. And thank you for joining me. And I am so thankful that God has led you here.
00:01:21
Speaker
i am just I'm very excited. So thank you. And ah today I told you there'd be something a little bit special, something that's been on my heart. I mentioned briefly yesterday when we had the earthquake is that we are now in what is called the days of counting Omer.
00:01:38
Speaker
I have been attending a Messianic Jewish church. And ah while I'm not finding this specifically in great ah spoken of a great deal. God has been leading me this year and ah to observe the festivals that he has set forth for us in the Bible.
00:01:57
Speaker
And we have a tendency to think of these festivals as being Jewish festivals. But really, the ones that these are are there are three major festivals, and they are not simply Jewish festivals.
00:02:09
Speaker
They are called for God's believers to observe eternally. So I um have been very led to ah observe these festivals because it is God's Spirit who is calling me into obedience.
00:02:22
Speaker
And I've been rather upset because in all the years that I've been attending church, I have never been introduced to these. And so I feel that it's been a little bit of a failing in our traditional Christian churches.
00:02:35
Speaker
I was excited when I went to the Passover conference this past weekend that ah like 99% of it was was Christian celebration. And we had ah simply the rabbi for where I've been attending as the only representative of the Messianic Jewish community.
00:02:54
Speaker
And then, of course, we had the Seder meal that I had spoken briefly about. And so I was really actually happy to see that there are Christians and who they say that they have been making this, I will call it the pilgrimage to attend this event in San Diego at the Morris Sorello Legacy Center for, some people said like 10 years.

Faith Practices and Timing

00:03:17
Speaker
And I was like, wow, you've been observing Passover for 10 years and I'm 48. Where is this here in San Diego other than in the Messianic Jewish congregations?
00:03:28
Speaker
So it's ah God put it on my heart and I was thinking, gosh, somebody needs to be doing this. Somebody needs to be doing this.
00:03:37
Speaker
And as we read about in the book of Esther, when Mordecai told Esther, ah if you you who who knows that you have not been brought to a position such as this so that you can act now.
00:03:53
Speaker
And so I thought, well, if not me, who? And so ah I was thinking, oh, next year I'll do more about that. Why next year? Why put it off?
00:04:05
Speaker
ah So I'm going to be doing that today. And so today is the second day of the counting of the Omer. So going to get a little bit more than just our daily Bible reading today.
00:04:18
Speaker
In the day after Passover, we have ah the seven days of observing unleavened bread. Then we have seven Sabbaths where we count down 50 days. And some of you may know this as the time where we reach the 50 days and what we call in the Christian community, the day of Pentecost.
00:04:38
Speaker
What you may not realize is that it's actually tied in timing. You know you know, the day of Pentecost, if you don't, I'll let you know very briefly before I continue, but that is the day where ah the Holy Spirit was given to the first disciples.
00:04:54
Speaker
And it is no coincidence that God coincided this to ah fulfill. As Jesus said, I have not come to abolish the law, but to fulfill it. This came at the same day as Shavuot, which is the day of first feast, ah first harvest.
00:05:13
Speaker
The feast of first harvest, I think it's called. So 50 after they left Egypt, Moses Mount Sinai he came down with God's law people. the books the first five books of the bible the law to the israeli people after they left egypt so fifty days after they left egypt moses was on mount sinai and he came down with god's law for the people And it is just amazing. God's timing is not random.
00:05:44
Speaker
When the disciples were waiting, Jesus told them not to go anywhere, but to wait because great power was going to come upon them. And we may celebrate that as the time of the receiving of the Holy Spirit, but it is connected.

Devotionals and Meditative Practices

00:05:58
Speaker
in for with the old testament for the giving of the torah and now instead of law we have redemption we have salvation and so we are to count out fifty days until that time and what i have been learning in my reading about this is that we should expect god in this time and to expect him at the end of that fifty days to do something and if you are not expecting him i am reading you simply won't find anything I want to be a body of Christ that is expecting our Lord to come, not necessarily physically, you know, to return again, but who is expecting our God to show up for us in these days, to do something that magnifies our harvest.
00:06:40
Speaker
And so I'm going to put a link in ah the description today for the devotion that I will be reading from. And it is very, very short, so ah you don't have to worry about it.
00:06:53
Speaker
But I'm going to be giving our counting of the Omer each day for the next days. We are only on day two, so so I've only missed day one. Not bad. Although it was on my heart yesterday, especially when he gave us that little bit of a jolt.
00:07:06
Speaker
here in my area, which was actually only centered about ah eight miles away from my home. It was very small. It was 5.7 or 5.2. ah five point two It was downgraded, but it was enough to get some attention.
00:07:20
Speaker
and so i want to honour god and i want to help my brothers and sisters in christ because the goal of this event is to spread the word about reading god's word and this was in god's word is that everybody you and me we are all meant to count the omer So let's count the Omer and expect God in the next 50 days.
00:07:41
Speaker
It's very short, and and I will read it. And then if you would like to participate and feel God moving you, please ah feel free to count the Omer with me after I say it.
00:07:56
Speaker
Blessed are you, o Lord our God, King of the universe, who has set us apart from Omer is traditionally preceded the blessing. And then say, have counted the Omer.
00:08:15
Speaker
counting of the or is traditionally preceded by the blessing and then we say today is the second day of the first we and day two
00:08:34
Speaker
i have counted the oour
00:08:39
Speaker
That is it. Now the little devotional that I will put in my link is linked to shoreshdavid.org. And so I want thank shoreshdavid.org.
00:08:52
Speaker
It is a Jewish Messianic congregation located in Florida. And they have put this ah devotional booklet available for everybody on their website as a free download.
00:09:03
Speaker
And so that is what I am reading from. And then there is a very short ah theme. For instance, today is pray each morning. And then it gives us a scripture verse. And then it gives us a thought.
00:09:17
Speaker
And then a challenge. And that's it. It's not time consuming. but you may find that God puts it upon your heart to take some time and to meditate on it. And so I just want to encourage you as my brothers and sisters in Christ who are participating in this event to listen for God to call you, because I'm sure that he is putting it upon your heart to count the Omer with me to this this these 50 days.
00:09:45
Speaker
And we are only on day two. And I really felt I should have started yesterday, but that's okay.

Proverbs Reading and Lessons

00:09:50
Speaker
Better late than never, right? So thank you for joining me in counting of the second day of the Omer.
00:09:57
Speaker
And we are going to pick up today in our daily Bible reading, which is taking place in the Proverbs. And there are, of course, so many great lessons to learn in the Proverbs. it was I was saying, Lord, tell me which one you want me to choose for our daily application.
00:10:16
Speaker
What do you want us to have as our daily application? Because there are so many. So our first section is entitled, Love, Hate, and Caring.
00:10:31
Speaker
Hate brings fussings, but love covers all wrong.
00:10:38
Speaker
Be happy to eat vegetables where there is love. That's better than eating meat where there is hate.
00:10:46
Speaker
Some people laugh at poor people. The people who laugh show they don't think much of God. Some people are glad when bad things happen to others. And the people who are glad will get into trouble.
00:11:00
Speaker
Don't be happy when your enemy gets into trouble. God will see you. He won't be happy with you. And he will stop being angry at your enemy.
00:11:12
Speaker
Give food to your enemy if he is hungry. Give water to your enemy if he is thirsty. God will bring good things to you for doing this.
00:11:22
Speaker
People who do what's right take care of their animals. When bad people try to be kind, they're still mean.
00:11:31
Speaker
Worry makes a person feel bad, but a kind word makes him feel better.
00:11:39
Speaker
Our next section of Proverbs is entitled, Self-Control and Pride. If you find honey, then eat just enough. If you have too much, you'll get sick.
00:11:53
Speaker
don't go to your neighbor's house too often, they might stop liking you.
00:12:00
Speaker
Someone who can't control himself is like a city with broken down walls.
00:12:08
Speaker
A fool shows all his anger, but a wise person controls himself.
00:12:17
Speaker
People get proud and they think they're the best. Then others treat them like they're not important. But people become wise when they make others feel important.
00:12:31
Speaker
It's better not to think you're the best, even if you have a servant. Some people act like they're rich, but they are poor. And some people act like they are poor, but they are rich.
00:12:47
Speaker
Thinking you're the best only starts fights. but listen to what others tell you and that will make you wise. God is not happy with people who think they're the best.
00:12:59
Speaker
You can be sure they'll get in trouble. Thinking you're the best comes before you get into trouble.
00:13:07
Speaker
Thinking you're the best, ah a bragging spirit comes before you get into trouble.
00:13:15
Speaker
Can anybody say, I've kept my heart clean? I have not sinned. No one can say that.
00:13:27
Speaker
eyes show that pride Eyes that show pride are sinful. A heart that thinks it's the best is sinful.
00:13:38
Speaker
People who are proud make fun of others and they act like they're the best.
00:13:45
Speaker
It's not good to eat too much honey, and it's not good to get people to say you're great.
00:13:52
Speaker
Lazy people think they're wise. They think they're wiser than seven people who give good answers.
00:14:01
Speaker
Let somebody else say good things about you. Don't say those things about yourself.
00:14:08
Speaker
You heat silver in a pot and you heat gold in a fire. That's how you test silver and gold to see if they're spotless. But people get tested when others say good things about them.
00:14:25
Speaker
Our last section today is entitled, Anger, Waiting, and Selfishness.
00:14:33
Speaker
Anger is mean. Loud anger is too much. but nobody can control people who want what others have. A heart full of peace gives you life, but wanting what others have makes your bones rot.
00:14:51
Speaker
Don't wish to be like sinful people. Sinful people have no hope for better things for tomorrow. People who do wrong will not last long.
00:15:03
Speaker
People start fights when they want more and more things. But good things come to people who trust God.
00:15:11
Speaker
People are trapped when they make a promise to God in a hurry. And later they may not be able to do what they said.
00:15:20
Speaker
Good comes from the plans of people who think and act carefully. But people who get in a hurry become poor. Do you see somebody who is in a hurry to talk?
00:15:33
Speaker
There's more hope for a fool than for that person.
00:15:37
Speaker
Wise people look up to God and they stay away from sin. But fools get angry easily. They're not careful.
00:15:48
Speaker
A person who waits quietly understands many things. But a person who gets angry too fast is a fool. Be happy to control your anger.
00:16:02
Speaker
That's better than controlling a whole city.
00:16:07
Speaker
People who get angry too fast will get into trouble. You might get them out of trouble, but you'll have to do it again.
00:16:17
Speaker
Don't make friends with people who get angry too fast. You might learn to act like them, and then you'll be trapped. People who laugh at others get whole cities mad, but wise people get others to stop being mad.
00:16:36
Speaker
And that is the end of our reading today.

Teachings of Jesus and Reflections

00:16:40
Speaker
There were so many, it was hard to hear God's voice at first. I had to read through three, four times. And i just was, I marked some and and I was trying to listen to the Lord.
00:16:52
Speaker
And as I started to read it again here, i am hearing that hate brings fussing, but love covers all wrongs.
00:17:05
Speaker
Some people laugh at poor people. Oops, wrong one. Some people are glad when bad things happen to others. And the people who are glad will get into trouble. Don't be happy when your enemy gets into trouble.
00:17:18
Speaker
God will see you and he won't be happy with you. And he will stop being angry at your enemy. Give food to your enemy if he is hungry. Give water to your enemy if he is thirsty.
00:17:31
Speaker
And God will bring good things to you for doing this. Good things come to kind people, but trouble comes to mean people.
00:17:42
Speaker
And it all starts with, hate brings fussing, but love covers all wrong.
00:17:50
Speaker
Jesus told us to, said, you've heard it said to love your and love your neighbor and hate your enemies. He says, but I tell you to love your neighbor and love your enemies.
00:18:02
Speaker
He says, even the the pagan people love the people who they love. They're easy to love. Pagans are people who don't believe in God. But to love your enemy is is to truly love the way God loves.
00:18:17
Speaker
Because while we were still God's enemy, still sinners, Christ died for us. And that is what God really spoke to me about today. We should not wish evil upon our enemies. We should not be glad when we see what we think is justice coming to those who deserve it.
00:18:36
Speaker
We just celebrated Passover. And that is the celebration ah um of Jesus being our Passover lamb. And we will be having Easter this coming Sunday where we celebrate his resurrection.
00:18:51
Speaker
And um the times don't coincide exactly this year with the the ah the Passover day coinciding with Good Friday and Easter, but it is the same learning.
00:19:07
Speaker
And Jesus was our Passover lamb. And so if he can forgive and treat us with love, then surely we should be able to do it too.
00:19:18
Speaker
Because the things that we did and the way we were against God are far worse than than what we might see our supposed enemies or people we don't like doing. And so that is what God really put upon my heart today was to not be happy when we see other people getting what we think they deserve.
00:19:36
Speaker
and And that love covers a multitude of wrongs. ah God is love. He is the equivalent of love.
00:19:47
Speaker
And God wants us to love others more than we even love ourselves. As much as we love ourselves, if not more, God loves us so much that he sent us his son to die for our sins so that we could have a relationship with him again.
00:20:04
Speaker
And so if he can do it, so can we. So let's have an open heart during the season and ask God to multiply our love in our in this Feast of First Fruits and ask him to show us forgiveness, help us to show forgiveness for those that we consider that people we don't like or who maybe we may consider our enemies or for people we may consider as getting what they deserve.
00:20:32
Speaker
Let's ask God to cleanse that from our hearts this season.
00:20:37
Speaker
So thank you for joining me today, whether you are listening on your favorite podcasting app or whether you are watching the video somewhere. Thank you so much for joining me today as we both counted the Omer and had our daily reading for today.
00:20:49
Speaker
And if you feel that God has lit your light to- today, then please click that light button. Looks like a thumbs up or a heart, but it's really our light. And let's shine the light for this event because it's not for here. It's for God so that we can help spread the word about reading God's word.
00:21:07
Speaker
I will be here for everybody again tomorrow, and I hope everybody has a great rest of their day, wherever you are in the world.
