Thank you for joining me as we both count the Omer today AND have our  daily Bible reading session! Here is the link for a downloadable devotional if you would like to count the Omer for yourself:  https://www.shoreshdavid.org/download/counting-the-omer-booklet/

In our proverbs reading today we will read the topics of: Being Kind and Giving and Working Hard or Being Lazy. In our daily application we will discuss how amazing God's divine timing is to coincide yesterday and today's readings with giving during this time of First Fruits! Yesterday we discussed giving to God to show He is the most important one in our lives and today we will talk about giving to OTHERS! Proverbs 11:25 says: A person who makes people feel good will feel good himself. We will talk about how amazing God is because He even designed us with a built in "feel good" chemical reaction in our brains that nowadays we call The Helpers High, so that when we do good for others it actually releases feel good chemicals in our brains! Isn't God wonderful? He really wants to encourage us and reward us for doing good for others! We were made for it! I love how helping people makes me feel good and I don't mind saying that I am personally addicted to the Helper's High. Today I challenge you to see if you can also become addicted to The Helpers High during this season  of giving by sharing what God has so generously provided for YOU with others and see how much MORE God MULTIPLIES what you give!

If you would like to join me LIVE for the daily reading you can register to attend on my site, here:  https://www.inthefamilywaycoaching.com/schedule

Introduction and Easter Greetings

00:00:02
Speaker
Welcome, welcome. Today is Saturday. It is April 19th, 2025, and you are here with Robin at In the Family Way Coaching. I am going through and we are reading the Bible this year using the Day by Day Kids Bible, which has been written by Karen Henley.
00:00:21
Speaker
I am so glad that you are here finding this event, whether you are following along on your favorite podcasting app and just listening, or whether you are watching the video. Thank you so much for joining me this year.
00:00:33
Speaker
If you are using a calendar to keep track of your commitment and your achievement, go ahead and take that out. Put your sticker or however you'd like to mark that off because you're about to hear the Bible today.
00:00:48
Speaker
Well, it is going to be Easter here by the time I get this posted. So I hope everybody is enjoying their Easter weekend. and having a great time.

Counting the Omer: Significance and Personal Reflection

00:00:59
Speaker
We are also here to count the Omer, but it is too late in the day to really do it officially effectively. So I will just let you know that today is the sixth day of the first week and i have counted the Omer myself today.
00:01:15
Speaker
So it's kind of pointless to have you count it with me on this session because it is just about midnight my time as I am finally getting around to getting this session recorded.
00:01:27
Speaker
So I did technically get it read today, but I did not get it posted. I had such a wonderful day out today. and ah And then I realized at about 10 o'clock while we were still out, oh man, i didn't bother to get home and get my recording done.
00:01:44
Speaker
Then I had groceries to put away and Costco to bring in. And, oh, you know, that's big. So I just had so much to do. and then I was just not in a hurry. I didn't want this to be...
00:01:56
Speaker
This is not something I want to stress out about. This event is a joy for me to do. And i know we often, most of you here don't have time ah to listen on a Saturday anyway. So I kind of give myself that grace for Saturdays to not worry about it.
00:02:13
Speaker
In the mornings before I go to work, oh yeah, I'm trying to get it done. But not because the event is cumbersome, but because I just need to get to work.

Excitement and Listener Engagement

00:02:23
Speaker
I am loving reading this with you each day this year, and I hope you are enjoying listening to it as much as I am enjoying reading it and having these talks here for you.
00:02:35
Speaker
i am so excited that God has ah led me to do this event, and I am even more excited there are people actually listening. i am loving spreading the word about reading God's word, and I hope that you're helping to spread the word about reading God's word too. It's not about this event.
00:02:52
Speaker
It's about God. And I'm just really excited this season. So thank you for joining me. And ah I think I mentioned that today is the sixth day of the Omer counting.

Historical Context: Omer, Shavuot, and Pentecost

00:03:05
Speaker
And I counted the Omer myself already, but it is too late in the day to bother doing it together. So I will have that done for us tomorrow. So we are reading through the Proverbs and boy, oh boy, God is just really bringing home these messages and it is right in line with this season that we are in.
00:03:28
Speaker
If you recall, if you missed this, what this counting of the Omer is, this is the time in between Passover and ah what we would call in the Christian time of Pentecost.
00:03:42
Speaker
But before we had Pentecost, we had Shavuot. Shavuot. And that was the ah celebration of Moses giving the Torah.
00:03:55
Speaker
And Jesus became the first fruits. And so we are in the season of first fruits after Passover because he was the first fruits in the resurrection of the dead.

Proverbs on Kindness and Generosity

00:04:08
Speaker
And the counting of the Omer is a unit of measurement in agriculture in the Bible. And so we are counting according to God's word that we are supposed to count 50 days.
00:04:22
Speaker
And that was the memor commemorative day of God giving the Torah. But in the New Testament, at that 50 days, we had Pentecost, the giving of the Holy Spirit.
00:04:37
Speaker
So God fulfilled his law with the Holy Spirit. He wrote it on our hearts. And that is part of the purpose of the Holy Spirit is that he would write his law on our hearts.
00:04:50
Speaker
And now we are reconciled to him through Christ. And now we have him with us. And it is so exciting. So we are counting. And this today was day six.
00:05:02
Speaker
And Sunday will be day seven, which is Easter.
00:05:07
Speaker
So we are reading through the Proverbs and the very first section we have is being kind and giving. There, ah Karen Henley has done a beautiful job of organizing the Proverbs into such a way that they're easier to understand rather than reading them first Proverbs, second Proverbs, third Proverbs, which can have different topics for each one.
00:05:34
Speaker
She has ah gathered all the different proverbs that are related on the same topic and put them under the same topic for us. And it almost reads just like a story because her Bible version is written as a chronological story so that we see the whole big story from Genesis to Revelation.
00:05:55
Speaker
Even her proverbs organization is amazing. And so today's section is entitled, what the first one anyway, we have more than one, is Being Kind and Giving.
00:06:08
Speaker
And this just fits right in with our season of first fruits and giving to God. Yesterday we talked about giving God a tenth of what we get, and because really everything we have comes from God.
00:06:22
Speaker
And here we have another section entitled Being Kind and Giving. So I bet you can guess what our daily application will be today.
00:06:35
Speaker
All right, so here we go. We are going to begin. Do good when you can. Let's say you have something your neighbor needs. Don't say, come back tomorrow and I'll give it to you then.
00:06:50
Speaker
One person gives without worrying about it. He gets even more. Another person holds on to what he has, but he grows poor.
00:07:03
Speaker
A person who gives lot will get a lot. A person who makes people feel good will feel good himself.
00:07:15
Speaker
A good person saves things for his grandchildren.
00:07:20
Speaker
When people are kind to the poor, they lend to God. God will pay them well for what they have done.
00:07:31
Speaker
Some people don't listen when poor people cry. Someday those people will cry and no one will listen.
00:07:41
Speaker
Some people brag about giving, but never give. They're like clouds and wind that don't bring rain.
00:07:50
Speaker
People who give to the poor will have all they need. People who don't help the poor will have trouble.
00:07:59
Speaker
People who are mean to the poor don't care about God, but people who are kind to the poor do care about God.
00:08:09
Speaker
And that's the end of that section.

Hard Work vs. Laziness: Insights from Proverbs

00:08:13
Speaker
Our next section is entitled, Working Hard or Being Lazy. And that will be our second section of the day. We only have two today.
00:08:25
Speaker
Look at the ant, you lazy person, and think about what the ant does. Be wise. The ant doesn't have a king to tell it what to do, but it stores up its food in the summer.
00:08:38
Speaker
If you you'll grow poor, and if you keep working, you'll get rich. What does a sour drink do to your teeth? What does smoke do to your eyes?
00:08:52
Speaker
That's how lazy people seem to the people they work for. People who work will have enough food. But people who dream all day are not wise.
00:09:04
Speaker
People who keep working will be in charge. Lazy people will end up being servants.
00:09:11
Speaker
All hard work brings good things. But if all you do is talk, you'll grow poor. Lazy people don't get their fields ready to plant, so when it's time to gather crops, there's nothing to gather.
00:09:27
Speaker
Do you see any people who do a good job? They will get to do their job for kings. I passed a lazy man's field, and weeds were everywhere.
00:09:40
Speaker
The stone wall was broken down. I thought about what I saw, I learned something. You sleep a little, you sleep a little more, you fold your hands to rest, and then you grow poor.
00:09:57
Speaker
It's as if a robber came. A door turns to open, a lazy man turns over in bed.
00:10:07
Speaker
Take care of a fig tree, and then you will eat its fruit. Take care of your boss, then good things will come to you. Work hard and you'll have plenty of food.
00:10:20
Speaker
Don't chase dreams or you'll grow poor. Wise people save some of the nice things they have, but fools use up everything they have.
00:10:33
Speaker
My child, did your neighbor borrow money from someone? one Did you say you would pay it back if they couldn't? That would be a co-borrower.
00:10:45
Speaker
Then try to get free from this trap. Go and beg your neighbor to set you free. Don't let yourself sleep. Get free like a deer gets free from a hunter. Get free like a bird gets free from a trap.
00:11:01
Speaker
Some people say they'll pay for what another person borrowed, but that will bring trouble. You're safe if you don't make that promise.
00:11:11
Speaker
I actually had no idea that the idea of a co-borrower had been around for this long until I read today's Proverbs. I'd never heard about that.
00:11:24
Speaker
I do wanna make the distinction here that it almost would seem that ah we have we're supposed to have compassion for those who are who have less than we do, the poors the poor people.
00:11:39
Speaker
But it talks about there's a difference between people who are simply not working and being lazy. That is not the same. And being lazy will cause you to have nothing.
00:11:51
Speaker
and to become poor. But when we're talking about being kind and giving, it's talking about that there will always be people who have less than we do and they work hard, but they don't make a lot of money and they may have um a large family that they need to take care of, whatever it happens to be.
00:12:08
Speaker
There are always people who will have less than we do and and even if they're working hard, but that's not what they're talking about with working hard or being lazy. So I didn't want it to seem like we were contradicting there.
00:12:23
Speaker
So what was our daily application? It was our first section, wasn't it? Right away. God really made that easy to spot to- today, didn't he? Do good when you can.
00:12:36
Speaker
Let's say you have something your neighbor needs. Don't say, come back tomorrow and I'll give it to you then.
00:12:44
Speaker
One person gives without worrying about it and he gets even more. Another person holds on to what he has. but he grows poor.
00:12:56
Speaker
A person who gives a lot will get a lot. A person who makes people feel good will feel good himself. When people are kind to the poor, they lend to God.
00:13:11
Speaker
God will pay them well for what they have done.
00:13:15
Speaker
Some people don't listen when poor people cry, and someday those people will cry and no one will listen.
00:13:26
Speaker
People who are mean

The Joy of Giving and 'Helper's High'

00:13:27
Speaker
to the poor, ah people who give to the poor will have all they need. People who don't help the poor will have trouble. And people who are mean to the poor don't care about God.
00:13:40
Speaker
But people who are kind to the poor do care about God. So in this season of giving, we talked about yesterday with ah using our riches to show God he is the most important one to us.
00:13:55
Speaker
And today it talks about giving to others.
00:14:00
Speaker
And I love how it says that when people are kind to the poor, they lend to God. God will pay them well for what they've done.
00:14:12
Speaker
God loves a cheerful giver. God loves it when we are cheerful. He wants us to give out of joy and out of cheer, not because we feel obligated or which means to feel like, oh I have to do this.
00:14:28
Speaker
God doesn't have to give us things, but he does. He gives to us joyfully. He is the best example and everything we have comes from him.
00:14:39
Speaker
and he always gives us enough to share. We always have enough to share with others. I like when we do the the communion and the breaking of the bread.
00:14:51
Speaker
We did it to- today in ah and ats ah the Jewish congregation, miss miss Messianic Jewish congregation where I go. And in the Passover Seder meal, there is a hidden matzo and it's broken.
00:15:07
Speaker
And it's in one piece and then you break it and you share it. And I love that because it's it's breaking, but that is the actual breaking of bread together and the sharing of bread together.
00:15:21
Speaker
And it it makes me think of that, of breaking one piece of bread. And it's like when they had, when Jesus fed the thousands of people, there were more there was more than one incident. So rather than say he's fed the 4,000 or the 5,000, when Jesus thousands of people,
00:15:38
Speaker
They had started with just a couple of loaves of bread and just a few fish. God multiplied what they had. They gave what little they had and God multiplied it.
00:15:54
Speaker
We cannot out give God. The more we give God, the more he gives back. It says here, that a person who gives a lot will get a lot.
00:16:10
Speaker
One person gives without worrying about it, and he gets even more. But another person holds on to what he has, but he grows poor. And it's just amazing how it's it seems that although we are giving away what we have, it seems like we just always have more and more.
00:16:31
Speaker
And if you haven't experienced that yet, give that a try this first fruit season over the next 50 days as a trial and just see. We talked yesterday about ah giving extra and sharing with our neighbor and just looking for opportunities that God is bringing us this season to give and to share what he what we have.
00:16:54
Speaker
This is ah a time where God is looking to multiply our blessings. And so it's just perfect that today's application would be about being kind and giving.
00:17:08
Speaker
We don't just give out of obligation. We give out of love and joy because we have enough to share. and I love to share things with people.
00:17:19
Speaker
and it's just And it says on here, oh, I love this. A person who makes people feel good will feel good himself. And what's funny is we've actually found this to be um what we would call scientifically accurate.
00:17:35
Speaker
And it's called the helper's high. And I like to say, I'm addicted to the helper's high. I like to be helpful. It makes me feel good to be helpful. When when i find things that God is using for application,
00:17:52
Speaker
And I find that they are helpful in my life. I love to share those things because I want to help other people go through the same the similar situations.
00:18:03
Speaker
And that's why I share my examples of when I go through things so that you can see what it looks like for a regular person. And when... ah When we give to people, it's the same thing.
00:18:16
Speaker
When you are helping another person, it makes you feel good. And that's called the helper's high. And it actually does release chemicals in the brain that make you feel better.
00:18:27
Speaker
So I like to say I'm addicted to the helper's high.
00:18:32
Speaker
Don't you love that? God actually gave us chemical reaction in the brain. It's not just something you feel good about in your heart.
00:18:43
Speaker
It actually happens in your brain too, because where did we say things that come out of our mouth start?

Encouragement to Spread the Light of God's Word

00:18:50
Speaker
And things that we hear, we have to be careful what goes into our mind.
00:18:56
Speaker
Because everything starts in the mind. So God gave us good feelings, chemical reactions in our mind that help us feel better, which encourage us to want to do it more.
00:19:10
Speaker
Isn't that amazing? We are literally made for doing good he makes us feel good for doing it. What a wonderful creative God we have.
00:19:25
Speaker
Isn't that wonderful?
00:19:28
Speaker
So I hope that you feel like that lights your light today and that you just feel encouraged that you want to share and try that out. See if you can become addicted to that helper's high. This holiday season of giving.
00:19:42
Speaker
ah So if you feel like God has lit your light today, and I hope that you do, then at the conclusion of this ah reading today, I would ask that you consider clicking that like that light button.
00:19:58
Speaker
It looks like a heart or a thumbs up, but it's really our light shining in the world because together we are the body of Christ. We are the light of the world. We are his light shining. He is now with us, God with us, Emmanuel.
00:20:14
Speaker
We have that Holy Spirit that we received when we became believers, just like the first disciples did at Pentecost, which is coming up in another, what, 41, 42 days.
00:20:28
Speaker
Isn't that amazing? 40 days, something like that. and we are the light of the world. So let's be that light and bring attention to reading God's word and help spread that word about reading God's word.
00:20:43
Speaker
If you know somebody who would be interested in hearing this, consider sharing it with them as well and clicking that subscribe or follow button so that other people can say, hey, what's going on with that? What is this Bible reading event all about?
00:20:57
Speaker
and that they will be attracted to your light and my light and everybody else's light so that we can spread that word about reading God's word. Well, I hope you've enjoyed today and I will be here for everybody again tomorrow. It's going to look like I posted two episodes on the same day, even though today is the 19th.
00:21:15
Speaker
That will technically not be posted until the 20th. So if you see two episodes of the 20th for today, that is why. Have a great day, everybody.
