00:00:41
Eden & Briana
Hey, guys. Welcome back to Miner's in Mayhem. True Crime podcast about miners

who commit murder. I'm Eden, and with me is my little leech who sucks a life out of me, my daughter Brianna. Hello. I am the leech. Yes, you are the leech. If I'm the birth giver, you're the leech. And I'm going with it. I'm pretty sure the youngest one. No. No, you're the leech. I'm not the leech.
00:01:06
Eden & Briana
It's all you. Uh-uh. Yeah, huh. No way. OK, so got anything good?
Graphic Content Warning
00:01:13
Eden & Briana
No. Or should we just get into it? What do you got for true crime news? So in true crime news I have in Pueblo, Colorado, police arrested a 72-year-old woman last week after she allegedly stabbed her elderly husband to death in their apartment in the assisted living facility.
00:01:33
Eden & Briana
Why? I didn't read on. um If you want to know that, you can go to truecrimenews dot.com. Let me just read this real fast.
00:01:46
Eden & Briana
Oh, she smelt like alcohol. Oh, oh she was drunk then, huh? In a facility? Apparently. It's assisted living, so thats so. So
The Saitama Crime Case
00:01:58
Eden & Briana
there's that. That's a quite the opposite of till death do us part. Well, it was till death do us part, but it was assisted.
00:02:09
Eden & Briana
ah so it's not In an assisted. In an assisted. Yeah. ah Oh, wow. It's absolutely terrible. She must have fucked up. Oh, I don't know where she was really drunk. Yeah. so out I don't know.
00:02:24
Eden & Briana
Maybe family, just. Well, it's assisted living, so. Oh, they're kind of mostly independent. They're independent. They can go grocery shop. They do, you know, yeah. So I'm drinking alcohol. I mean, you're not forbidding from drinking alcohol. Rifter. Anyways. um So if you listen to last week's episode, you know that this week's episode is going to be a doozy. It's going to be horrific. It's going to be brutal. How do you know?
00:02:56
Eden & Briana
because we talked about it in last week's episode. Oh wow, that's amazing. Because you don't know this case. No, I have no idea. I feel really guilty already for even considering laying this on you, knowing how empathetic you are. This one's going to suck for you. How old was the girl? 17. Oh, it was just a baby. So your
Junko Furuta's Life and Aspirations
00:03:22
Eden & Briana
your empath side of you is really going to struggle with this case. Well, maybe it won't. with Yeah, I gave you a little help. We're drinking um today on the menu for drinks. I made dirty root beer. Dirty root beer. And they are numbs from Delicious. Cheers. Cheers. Cheers to not beers. Cheers to the root beers. Yeah, there you go.
00:03:51
Eden & Briana
So I think we're just going to jump into it, because Brianna, if I know you, you're going to want to breathe every once in a while? Probably. So if I cry, you're going to. Don't judge me. You're going to. And I'm going to struggle to. My glasses are really dirty. I'm going to try to block it out. Good luck.
00:04:13
Eden & Briana
I gotta clean my glasses or we ain't reading nothing. Let me just build this brick wall in my heart real quick. You're a dang pal. You can't get there. You are a true empath. I truly am. You are screwed. And I am too, so that's why it took me a month to write this case. And I even left some things out because I just couldn't do it anymore. So I'm just saying this, you guys, if there's ever an episode you wanted to skip, this would be the one. But I'll give a big trigger before I really get into it.
00:04:43
Eden & Briana
Every episode really sucks. The difference between this episode and the others is this is prolonged torture. It's prolonged torture. It's not, it's not kidnap. Does it make the toy box killer look,
00:05:03
Eden & Briana
um what's the word without being offensive? This ranks, no, this ranks are right up there with the Toybox Killer, I would say, if not even a lot worse. I don't know. The Toybox Killer was horrific.
Hiroshi's Obsession and Junko's Abduction
00:05:20
Eden & Briana
so But the only difference there is, yeah, I don't know. I'm just saying. i it's um Every murder is brutal. Every murder is brutal. This one was prolonged for Would you like to know how long this goes on? I think last week you said 42? 41? 44 days. 44? Yes. So this one's bad. Let's get in it. Okay, so we're actually going to travel this week. I'm already chewing my nails. Yes, stop chewing your nails. We're going to go to Japan. Specifically, Saitama, Japan. And this is a Japanese case.
00:05:57
Eden & Briana
So I am going to destroy names, but I am going to do it the best I can. But I am going to destroy names, so just saying. um For this week's episode, we're traveling to Japan, specifically, Saitama, Japan. As of February 2021, the estimated population was approximately, now put on your big girl hat for this, just for a second. Imagine this, one million 324,854 people. Yeah. That was the population. In what year? In 2021. Holy crap. That's a lot. Could you? I don't even think we have a city of that big. Here? Yeah. God, not even close. Golly. That's huge. That would be like, what, four or five Fargos? No, why don't you... um
00:06:56
Eden & Briana
Google the population of Los Angeles, because LA is huge. And I drove through LA, and that sucked.
00:07:10
Eden & Briana
Los Angeles is, I mean, it was bumper to bumper fricking track. It took me four hours to get around the outskirts of Los Angeles. Los Angeles. Let's see. The
00:07:26
Eden & Briana
in Los Angeles,
00:07:32
Eden & Briana
3.821 million as of 2023. So it's about a quarter, a third, a quarter of the size of, it's huge. No matter how you look at it. and Say, Tom, Japan is freaking huge. So we're throwing back to the late 80s for this case.
00:07:54
Eden & Briana
So late 1988 into very early 1989. um Happenings in 1989 in the United States included George W. Bush becoming our 41st president. Exxon Valdez spilled 11 million gallons of oil into Prince William Sound, Alaska. The fall, the beginning of the fall, the Berlin Wall. Ted Bundy is executed and the TV show Seinfeld made its debut.
00:08:24
Eden & Briana
Wow, wow, right? Fashion trends included nothing off from today, really. Cropped and long jackets, fake fur coats, reversible coats, sweater dresses, poofy dresses, and slouch socks. Hmm, I just wore slouch socks the other day over my leggings. So this case really ranks up into the top three for me.
00:08:55
Eden & Briana
It includes rape, physical abuse, sodomy, mutilation, prolonged torture. This episode's very graphic and disturbing. So please skip this episode if you think you need to. There is going to be a lot of very disturbing details. So this whole case is just going to be one big trigger. Remind me what sodomy is again.
00:09:22
Eden & Briana
um each You totally just offset me by asking me that question. Sorry. um I figured it was, but I couldn't. You just wanted confirmation? Yeah. Yeah. By the time this case is over, those of you who do manage to make it to the end are going to be infuriated because the punishment does not match this crime whatsoever.
00:09:47
Eden & Briana
ever Not even close. Not even close. So a swipe on the wrist? Basically, for what they what they did, they basically slapped on the wrist. Oh, yes. So let's do this.
Junko's Ordeal in Captivity
00:10:06
Eden & Briana
Junko Furuta was born January 18, 1971, in Saitama, Japan. She was a gentle, kind girl who aspired to become a teacher and also an idol singer. She lived with her parents, her older brother, and a younger brother.
00:10:25
Eden & Briana
Junko was a very, very beautiful girl, and I will post photos to our Facebook page right after this episode publishes. She's just beautiful. Just beautiful. She was a very responsible girl who took her education very serious. You would not find Junko out drinking and partying. Instead, you would most likely find her studying or working at her part-time job at a plastic molding factory.
00:10:51
Eden & Briana
She was really working hard to save up money for a planned high school graduation trip because she would be graduating high school. so But for after high school, she had already secured a job at an electronic retail store. That job would have began after she had graduated high school. in She maintained very good grades and was very well-liked by her classmates as well as her teachers.
00:11:20
Eden & Briana
and So we're talking about the all-around, the all-around girl, just well-rounded, well-liked, responsible, had a job, didn't party. Probably the apple of her, you know, her parents did a good job. yeah I mean, she was very a very good girl. Now, Hiroshi Miano, and I'm sure I'm screwing that up, he was a known bully with a violent disposition.
00:11:49
Eden & Briana
And he had connections with the Yakuza. Now the Yakuza is a Japanese organized crime group that has been active for over 300 years. That's what the Yakuza is. He took notice of Junko and developed. He was crushing on her pretty hard. But these feelings were not reciprocated because, you know, Junko didn't have time for that.
00:12:13
Eden & Briana
She didn't want a relationship with anybody. She was focused. She was hyper-focused on her and her life and what she wanted to do. She wanted to mold her own life. Yes. So she she didn't date. She didn't have any interest in that. So they weren't reciprocated. And when Hiroshi actually asked Junko out, she very politely declined. She wasn't a bitch about it. She wasn't acting like she was too good for you. She just politely declined. No. i you know You know, not hateful, not anything. Just everybody has a right to say no.
00:12:49
Eden & Briana
um you Hiroshi didn't take her rejection very well. In fact, it downright enraged him. Really? You know, because he's a big boy, part of the Yakuza. He's got connections to the Yakuza. Nobody tells me no. Ha ha ha. You know, somebody that thinks they're more than they are.
00:13:12
Eden & Briana
You know the type. that That is a type. Oh, I don't want to go on. Okay. So Hiroshi and his friend, friends, Joe Akira, Shinshi Minato, and Yasushi Watanabe were already known criminals. Already. Their crimes included person napping, stealing cars, assault, and rape.
00:13:42
Eden & Briana
In November, they kidnapped a 19 year old girl, took her to a local motel, gang raped her, and then threatened her life. You know, we're part of the Yakuza. We'll kill you. We'll kill your family. You better not say a thing. They did the same thing again in December to another 19 year old girl. So these guys are a little freaking assholes.
00:14:08
Eden & Briana
Yeah. So but pause for a second. I need to take a drink before we go on. Thank you. We're back. um I'm going to start with my trigger warning now. I'm going to throw it in here now. We are, well, we're not getting into it really bad, but we're getting there. So on the night of November 25th, 1988, Hiroshi and Shinji were cruising around on their motorcycles looking for women to rob and rape.
00:14:35
Eden & Briana
what most 16, 17 year old kids do, right? I mean, cool, right? Oh yeah, that's so normal. Heavily sarcasm here. Unfortunately, Hiroshi spotted Junko riding her bicycle on her way home from her part-time job. Hiroshi, who is the one that was respectfully declined on going out on a date, told Shinji to shove Junko off of her bike and then hightail it, run away.
00:15:05
Eden & Briana
Shinji did as he was told and he pushed Junko off of her bike and took off. This leading up to Hiroshi playing the knight in shining armor runs up and helped Junko up and who was that? I'll kick his ass. I'll kill him for hurting you and I'll walk you home for your safety. I better walk you home. We don't, we don't want him to come back and attack you. I better walk you home. Right?
00:15:31
Eden & Briana
but Yeah, it was his orders. Well, she doesn't know that. No. he couldnt you know he He did it for this reason. So upset and scared that she could be attacked again, Junco accepted his offer. Now this next part, I'm not sure how this next part came about. I found two different scenarios and I'm going to give them both because I just don't want to give false information. So one is that Junco
00:16:02
Eden & Briana
was in deep conversation with Hiroshi and wasn't paying attention to where they were going. And the other one was that Hiroshi threatened her. Either way, he got her to an abandoned warehouse, warehouse where he reminded her of his Yakuza connections. And if she made one single sound, he knew where her parents lived, he knew where her brothers lived, he would kill her, her family, and then he proceeded to rape Junko.
Torture and Neglect
00:16:34
Eden & Briana
Under the threat to her family, Hiroshi forced Junko to go to him go with him at sorry to a motel where he rapes her two more times. Hiroshi then takes Junko to a local park where Shinji, Joe, and Yasushi are waiting. When Junko sees Shinji, she realizes he is the one who pushed her off the bike. The boys took turns raping Junko in the park before then sneaking Junco into Shinji's house where he lived with his parents and older brother. When parents were present in the home, Junco was forced to act like Shinji's girlfriend. When it later became obvious that Shinji's parents were not going to report them to the police, they dropped the girlfriend act.
00:17:32
Eden & Briana
They were afraid of their son and his friends. Shinji was apparently very violent towards them. Towards his parents? Yep. so and And aside from being scared of their son, they didn't want to reput jeopardize their good reputation. oh Heaven forbid we report our son for kidnapping a girl and ruin our good of reputation.
00:17:57
Eden & Briana
Let's not talk about what this poor girl is about to endure and what she's already endured. Let's not save a life here. Let's protect your fucking rep, sorry, your reputation. And I'm already getting heated. Okay. So parents ain't going to do nothing. So they have this kidnapped girl in their home. Parents are aware and doing nothing.
00:18:24
Eden & Briana
When Junko didn't make it home from work, her parents were very concerned. Remember, she's very responsible, so this is out of the norm. They called the police and reported her missing, and the search for her began in full. and But the boys caught wind of this, and they rallied together and came up with a plan.
00:18:50
Eden & Briana
They made Junco call her parents and tell them that she ran away. She was safe with friends and she didn't want to be found. Please call off the search. So her chances of being found were very slim. Just destroyed. Absolutely destroyed. How this girl pulled this off is unknown to me.
00:19:18
Eden & Briana
But in my heart of hearts, I am sure that the only thing that she was thinking of was her family's safety. Guaranteed. So she basically sacrificed being found and saved to save her family. So there's that.
00:19:40
Eden & Briana
This phone call put a stop to the search for Junco. She had already been raped several times. but this would start a new nightmare for Junko, a nightmare so horrific that she literally asks several times to be killed. So her nightmare would come to an end. Just kill me already and get it over with, please. Just kill me and get it over with. Okay. Can you imagine what you would be going through to actually ask somebody to just, just kill me.
00:20:15
Eden & Briana
No. And we're not even there yet. We're just at the raping part. And I shouldn't say just because that is a serious offense, but I'm warning you guys, it is going to get much worse than this. Rape is horrific in and of itself. But what we're going to tell you, what I'm going to tell you makes rape look like a walk in the park. So I just want you to be ready. Okay.
00:20:42
Eden & Briana
As if what we have already discussed wasn't bad enough, we're getting ready to hear much worse. So this is your massive trigger warning for horrific sexual abuse, physical abuse, mental abuse, and severe torture spanning over 40 plus days. Shinji, Joe, Hiroshi, and Yasushi beat and raped Junko daily, sometimes repeatedly in the same day,
00:21:11
Eden & Briana
According to one of my resources, Junko was raped an estimated 400 times by the four boys while they held her in captivity. If this wasn't bad enough, they invited other Yakuza members and other friends over to have their way with Junko. My resource for this information stated that over 100 men raped Junko aside from the four boys. So if you do the math, that is at least 12 times per day.
00:21:41
Eden & Briana
for the amount of time that she was in captivity, the amount of times that she was raped, and the amount of people that raped her was a minimum of 12 times a day. These boys were actually bragging to other people about having Junko and actually invited people to watch. After the first week went by, they humiliated Junko even more by taking away her clothing and forcing her to constantly remain naked.
00:22:10
Eden & Briana
So she doesn't even have, yeah. She lost dignity. Yeah, zero dignity. Out of sheer boredom, they would stuff her in a freezer and leave her in there until they would take her out for more torture. And yes, I will get to what they did to torture her, but I'm just kind of laying it out here. They hung her from the ceiling and relentlessly beat her.
00:22:37
Eden & Briana
They put her on the floor and dropped weights onto her stomach so hard that she actually defecated herself. She was made to masturbate in front of them and dance and insert different objects into her vagina and anus.
00:22:58
Eden & Briana
The boys violated her with an iron bar, scissors, skewers, and broken bottles.
00:23:09
Eden & Briana
They beat her with bamboo sticks, golf clubs, and iron rods.
00:23:16
Eden & Briana
So they took, trigger warning, they took a hot light bulb, unscrewed a hot light bulb. You know how hot they get when you're trying to unscrew them, you like burn your fingers. They took a hot light bulb, inserted it into her and moved it around until and it it exploded inside of her.
00:23:50
Eden & Briana
They lit fireworks from her anus, her ears, and her mouth. The damage to her eardrum was so severe that it left her nearly deaf. Can you pause for a minute? I need to take a break. We're back. By day 10,
00:24:12
Eden & Briana
She was no longer able to breathe through her nose due to the blood accumulation in her sinus cavity from being beaten in fire crackers and just, she was a mess. Her meals, basically she was starved and dehydrated. Her meals consisted of cockroaches and urine.
00:24:37
Eden & Briana
And when she would vomit from that, they would punish her. This is the middle of December 2, and they would force her to sleep outside naked in the balcony in the freezing weather.
00:24:54
Eden & Briana
So this next part, I have conflicting information. So I'm going to wing it here. There was an almost escape for Junko, but like I said, the conflicting information. So I'm going to tell you both.
00:25:09
Eden & Briana
The first is that Junko was able to contact the police herself, which I only read that in two places. So i I read more this other one. The other one was that, or maybe they both happened. I'm not sure that, you know, it's ah it's a japanese it's a Japan. So the information is, I don't know how, yeah. So anyway, I lost my spot.
00:25:39
Eden & Briana
The second one is that one of the teenagers who had seen Junko was appalled by what he had witnessed. So he told his parents, who then informed the police, either way that it came to fruition is um is moot. Because when the police went to Shinji's home, they said, there's no girl here. Here, come in and check.
00:26:01
Eden & Briana
Well, the officers took it at face value that, hey, if they're going to let us in the house, there's no girl here. And so they left without even checking the home.
Junko's Death and Aftermath
00:26:14
Eden & Briana
i Let that sink in for a minute. Because of this, the boys poured lighter fluid on Junko's feet and legs and set them on fire.
00:26:28
Eden & Briana
They set her on fire with lighter fluid, her legs and her feet. Um, they burnt her so severely that she was unable to walk normal. Wow. Yeah. Okay.
00:26:47
Eden & Briana
So we're going to hit about the 20 day, we're about 20 days into Junko's nightmare. and they just keep coming up with more and more new methods to torture June Cole.
00:27:01
Eden & Briana
um They really seem to enjoy pouring hot wax on her face and her genitalia. She was burned with lighters and cigarettes. Her hands were crushed into, there was no bones left in her hands, they were crushed And so this, but, you know, by this point, Junco could barely move. How did this girl not get sepsis? She was septic. She is a very sick girl. She is. Her body, her body kind of started failing around day 10. Her body is in shock and she is, yeah, she is. So how did she, how was she able to hang on for so long? I don't know. ah And we'll we'll never know.
00:27:52
Eden & Briana
I do not know. Because being septic, I think that came more towards the end. And that's probably what, well, I don't know. She was a little bit of everything. She did have sepsis because she was damaged so much internally, yeah but there's so much more. So we'll we'll discuss it. I left a lot of them more. Yeah. So, um,
00:28:23
Eden & Briana
They stuck needles into her breasts and they would actually just leave them in there. And I think they took a pliers and pulled off one of her nipples.
00:28:35
Eden & Briana
They sodomized her with a large glass bottle causing massive bleeding, which led to her going into convulsions, which they thought she was faking.
00:28:52
Eden & Briana
And since she was baking it, we're going to punish her even more, and they started her on fire again.
00:29:00
Eden & Briana
So going into the 30-day mark, Junko had endured so much damage internally that she could no longer control her bowel or bladder, leaving her incontinent, not to mention that her private parts were completely mutilated.
00:29:17
Eden & Briana
By this time, Junko had endured so much torture to the extent that she was no longer recognizable. And she started smelling very, very awful. Like. Gangrene. Not gangrene, but infection. Her body was full of infection and there's in. Because her burns and her wounds, everything was left untreated.
00:29:43
Eden & Briana
right And you've got incontinence and bowel incontinence and she's basically rotting. The boys were no longer interested in sexually assaulting her due to her appearance and bad smell. So they instead just increased the torture. they weren't They weren't having sex with her anymore, but let's increase the torture. Needing someone to sexually abuse, they kidnapped another victim But unlike Junko, they released this victim after the gang raped her. I'm jumping. Oh, yeah, because they have their torture toy. Yep. They lit her eyelids on fire.
00:30:28
Eden & Briana
Are you kidding?
00:30:32
Eden & Briana
it She was so mutilated that when she was still trying to make it to the bathroom, when she still had control of her bell and bladders, it would take her an hour to drag herself 70 feet to the bathroom.
00:30:49
Eden & Briana
yeah so On January 4th, 1989, the 44th day of her captivity, Now I read this different in two different ways also. In one place I read that they had challenged Junko to a game of mahjong, but in another one I read that Hiroshi had lost a game of mahjong in which he lost money so he was angry. Either way, this led to a two hour long beating that they would inflict on Junko. Never be able to play mahjong again.
00:31:25
Eden & Briana
Junco began spitting up blood and bleeding from new injuries and old injuries that were reopened. These, I don't even, they're not human. I don't have words for them. These boys, because they were boys, but demons, I don't know what you want to call them. They literally put plastic bags over their hands because they didn't want to get pus and blood on themselves.
00:31:53
Eden & Briana
When they were beating her. whoho ye They went on to pour lighter fluid on her legs, arms, stomach and face. They lit a candle and put it to her face and ignited her. She attempted to put the fire out, but she was just too weak. Junko's body could no longer fight. She went into convulsions for the last time.
00:32:23
Eden & Briana
and gave in due to her injuries. They put her unrecognizable, mutilated body into a 55-gallon drum and filled it with concrete, leaving some of her hair sticking
Confession and Arrests
00:32:35
Eden & Briana
out. And I don't think they did that on purpose. And I do have a picture of this, but I am undecided whether or not to put it on her page because it is a very haunting image. I don't know if I want to put that out there.
00:32:50
Eden & Briana
i mean I don't know. Isn't she beautiful? Is she not beautiful? She is so gorgeous. She is beautiful. So I, you know, that picture is probably all over the internet and it wouldn't hurt to put it on our Facebook page, but I, how do you feel about that? Have you seen that image? No, that's what I was trying to look that image. I have it.
00:33:18
Eden & Briana
But try to look it up. If it's not out there on the internet, I don't think I'm going to put it up. It is there.
00:33:28
Eden & Briana
Yes, it's there. I don't know that I want to put that on, but it is there. So how do you feel about it? It's such a gruesome case the way it is. Like if they want to see the photo, they can go and look it up. So I'll just put up pictures of her. Just put pictures up of her because this case is so perfect. So we'll lift her memory up and not, I'm not even going to put the perpetrators. I'm not going to put pictures of the perpetrators up because they don't need any recognition in this case. Junko is beautiful. No.
00:34:07
Eden & Briana
Okay, I haven't even seen those. They do have pictures. Of her legs and her face. Of her legs and her face after being tortured. I'm not putting that stuff up, but should we pause it for a minute while we look at these? Yeah. Okay, so we just looked. I'm not gonna put those images on our Facebook. If you type in Junco Furuda,
00:34:35
Eden & Briana
Crime images, you can see more than you signed up for. yeah They show several, even before she was in the concrete. So you can see the severity of what was inflicted upon her. Like her face and her legs. her face Yeah, you you can see her face and her legs. I'm not putting those on our Facebook page, just so you know, but they are there if you so desire.
00:35:00
Eden & Briana
On January 23rd, 1989, Hiroshi and Joe were arrested for the gang rape of the girl that they had raped and released while they still held Jinko captive. Remember when they didn't want to have sex with her anymore because, you know, of how she looked yeah and how she smelled?
00:35:23
Eden & Briana
I gotta breathe, okay. They separated the two boys. Did I say that? ah Yeah, they are arrested for the gang rape. They separated the two boys into different interview rooms and began interrogations. Now during Hiroshi's questioning, the police mentioned something about a murder. And this little dumbass literally thought that they were referring to Junko. And believing that Joe was in the other room spilling all the tea, Hiroshi told the police everything. And it wasn't even about Junko? It wasn't even about Junko because remember she called? They weren't looking for her anymore.
00:36:00
Eden & Briana
So thank God, but what a frickin dumbass.
00:36:07
Eden & Briana
They located the drum and confirming Hiroshi's confession, all four of the boys were arrested. When Junko's family was notified, Junko's mother literally collapsed out cold. And eventually, at some point in time, she had to be admitted to a mental health facility for treatment. It was some Really hard on her. Upon autopsy, it was discovered that even though internally Jinko was destroyed, despite this, she was pregnant by all the raids. So that should be double murder? In the United States, it would be.
00:36:55
Eden & Briana
Also during the autopsy, there was small small bottles that still remained and glass shards in her rectal cavity. And because of her condition of her body, after being in the concrete and after you know being beat so bad and tortured so bad that they had to identify her by fingerprints due to the condition.
00:37:20
Eden & Briana
Okay. Since the boys were juveniles, their names were not released, but they wouldn't be kept secret for very long because there's some bad-ass journalism somewhere for some magazine. Because these journalists found out who they were and published their names for all to know, saying that because of what that they had did, they did not deserve human rights.
Trial and Sentencing Outrage
00:37:45
Eden & Briana
Correct. So go journalists, go. Good for you.
00:37:52
Eden & Briana
Um, during the trial, people were literally fainting from hearing the horrific details of the crimes unleashed on Junco. And the sentencing in this case does not match the horrific crime. These boys should have faced the death penalty. Should have read on the spot. can Some believe their sentences were so light because of their Yakuza connection, but this cannot be confirmed. They all took a plea bargain.
00:38:23
Eden & Briana
not for murder, mind you, not for murder, but for causing bodily injury resulting in death. Hiroshi Miyano was sentenced to 17 years in prison. Hiroshi appealed the sentence claiming 17 years was too much for this crime. The judge, upon reviewing the case, felt it wasn't enough and actually tacked on three more years to a sentence for a total of 20 years.
00:38:53
Eden & Briana
I'm glad he tacked on more, but that is... 20 years. That ain't shit. Not when you're 17 at the time of the crime. He gets out before he's 40. So, Shinji Monado... He still gets to live a whole freaking life. Yep. Shinji Monado was sentenced four to six years in prison. Okay? He also appealed, and he was it was then up to five to nine years.
00:39:22
Eden & Briana
In 2019, Shinji was again arrested for attempted murder after beating a man and slashing his throat.
00:39:32
Eden & Briana
Yep. So it's a reoccurring problem. Yep. But let's not give him life or anything. That would be too much. How about the firing squad? Joe Ogura spent only eight years in prison being released in 1999.
00:39:51
Eden & Briana
Joe went on to get married and have a normal life until 2004. Must be nice because you go didn't get that opportunity. Yeah. So he lived in, north he got married, did everything until 2004 when he was arrested for attacking his own friend who he suspected was having an affair with his wife for which he would serve another seven years. I'm going to add a side note here. Joe's mother,
00:40:22
Eden & Briana
was accused of vandalizing Junko's grave site because she blamed Junko for ruining her son's life.
00:40:33
Eden & Briana
Did she not hear what her son did to this poor girl? Of course. But it's Junko's fault. Just saying. For denying her son on a date? This is a different guy. This is a different kid. This one's a different one? This is a different kid. This is Joe. Mm-hmm.
00:40:53
Eden & Briana
Yashushi Watanabe received three to four years in prison, but he also appealed his sentence, and once again, instead of it being reduced, it was increased to five to seven years. In Japan, this case is known as, quote, so when you when you take the Japanese language and then translated into our language this is what it says quote concrete in case high school girl murder case unquote the brutality of this case shocked japan and is thought to be the worst case of jumile juvenile criminality at junco's funeral one of her friends read a eulogy that was written by her high school classmates
00:41:42
Eden & Briana
Junko's future employer from the electronic job she had secured presented her parents with her uniform that she would have worn for the job, and that was placed in her casket. Her parents attended what would have been Junko's graduation where they were presented with Junko's high school diploma. My sources for this episode included Wikipedia, Murderpedia, and Five Horrific True Crime Stories by Cassandra May.
00:42:10
Eden & Briana
And we're going to open the floor to discussion about this case. So anybody that doesn't want to listen to us talk back and forth, please exit now. I got to read back because I had a thought. ah hi In Japan, this case is known as the concrete encased high school girl murder case. The brutality of this case shocked Japan and is thought to be the worst case of juvenile criminality. Yes.
00:42:41
Eden & Briana
then why were these boys not punished harder? I do not know the laws in Japan. I'm assuming that they were prosecuted to the fullest extent.
Japanese Legal System and Cultural Reflections
00:42:52
Eden & Briana
But if you look here, these guys, there was a 16 year old and two 17 year olds and an 18 year old. I don't know if he was 18 at the time of the crime or 18 at the time of sentencing. That is close enough to being adult. They are doing adult things. Why were they not prosecuted? As an adult? Yes.
00:43:12
Eden & Briana
but I don't understand Japan laws. I don't have a clue. I'm sure I could have deep-dove, but this case was so horrific. Maybe I'll add it into the next episode. Well, yeah, because we're doing a palate cleanser after this, right? Yeah. And that Joe's mom? What a fucking bitch. Are you kidding me? Are you kidding me? You're the victim in this case for ruining her son's life?
00:43:38
Eden & Briana
she She's just as bad. <unk>ing piss out of her She's just as bad as the boys. And I am not condoning violence, but I'm just saying. Junko ruined her son's life. Give me a break. He ruined his own goddamn life. What the hell is wrong with you, woman? But I don't understand Japanese culture. I don't. That's why I can't.
00:44:04
Eden & Briana
I don't understand if it was an America, those boys would have never left prison. Now, was it China or was it Japan that um boys were more praised than girls? Was that China? Isn't it both? Or is it both? a You know what, I am not gonna bind myself to that because I don't know. But I think it will isn't it? Is it Japan? And I don't think this happens anymore. But weren't they killing infant girls at at one point yeah way way back yeah like because they didn't want more girls and they just wanted for i i yeah i can't elaborate on that because i'm not sure but was that japan thank you i want to tokyo's in japan right yeah i want to say it's japan either way it's
00:45:00
Eden & Briana
fuck Well, their belief system, their law system, their everything is so different from us. Now, if this had happened in the United States, those boys, each and every one of those boys would have gotten it for double. They probably would have gotten the death sentence. Well, there was a baby there too. She was pregnant. So they would have gotten it for double homicide. Because he took took the lives of two. In the United States.
00:45:30
Eden & Briana
I believe like what she went through, I guarantee it was such a severe crime that it would have been death row. Well, you can't though, because we have that law that we cannot, miners cannot face the death penalty. Not even when they're tried as an adult? I don't think,
00:45:51
Eden & Briana
on maybe. ah I'm not sure. Miners I could see. But if they're tried as an adult. The only one that wasn't a minor was Hiroshi. So I think he could have faced the death penalty, depending upon what some of our states don't even have the death penalty. Send that sucker to Texas. They'll hang him. That's why I wish. This is a good time for vigilante justice. These guys are a waste of human beings. They are a waste of human life. Yeah, because I can't remember which boy it was.
00:46:31
Eden & Briana
got out and was fine and then killed that guy or attempted murder yeah that was um uh i shut my tablet off i don't know who that was i can't remember pro and then joe agura what did he do i don't remember yeah that's my case how are you feeling about this one i'm pissed to be honest how is your empathetic side whenever I was telling you all the things that were done to her. I didn't even touch on all of it. That was enough for me what I did. My chest definitely got tight. It and then you would say something and then I would get pissed off. And then my chest would get tight again. And then you'd say something and I get pissed off. Isn't that just
00:47:28
Eden & Briana
How did she, now we were talking about how her body managed to survive that amount of torture for 44 days. I don't know. I mean, like she had to be full of infection. Because if you look at the bone crack, bone cracker,
00:47:49
Eden & Briana
Oh, the bone breaker, bone breaker. He was almost dead within a couple of days within 24 hours. I thought because of, um,
00:47:59
Eden & Briana
His leg gets, what was the deal with that one? Both femurs were broke. Oh, he was bleeding internally. Yes. I don't know about her internal blood loss. I know she was bleeding profusely. Exactly. But how much? We don't know. But still, if your body goes through that much trauma, I mean, her rectum. Yep.
00:48:25
Eden & Briana
Her vagina was mutilated. The things they dropped on her stomach. Yep. In fact, I think in the autopsy report, her bowel was ruptured. So how did that not cause an infection to? It did. It just didn't take her out. No. Well, it did at the end. right But why did she have to suffer for that long? Well, she was begging for them to just kill her.
00:48:55
Eden & Briana
I don't know. I would have wanted to too, after the first day. How's she man it? Oh, and what if, what a disgrace of sentencing. Could you imagine? Well, her mom was put in a mental health facility, but imagine knowing what your daughter went through, going insane, and then hearing the boys' sentences. There was no justice in this case. Absolutely not one drop of justice in this case. Are they all still alive? I don't know, but you're doing the update next week. So I know that a couple of the boys had their names changed. So you will have to look into that. No, of course. Yeah, exactly. I know, um,
00:49:50
Eden & Briana
So if you're going to do an update on this one, you'll have to look for the name changes and all of the above.
00:49:59
Eden & Briana
I'm angry. My chest hurts. I told you it was bad. Well, it took me a month to work on this because I could only do it in increments of 10 to 15 minutes. I believe it.
Call for Vigilance and Justice
00:50:14
Eden & Briana
everything I probably would have never touched this one.
00:50:16
Eden & Briana
I just hurt. My whole body hurt just thinking about it and empathizing with her and wondering how she had the strength to keep going. Oh, shit. I don't know. I mean, she had a lot to live for. that's probably what That's probably what. She probably had an ounce of hope, and that's what she was clinging to. I don't know. But if she was begging to be killed, then maybe not.
00:50:47
Eden & Briana
If you think about childbirth for a minute, that's what. How many hours of pain do we go through with that? It all depends, really. Depends on how much labor you're in. I was in labor.
00:51:05
Eden & Briana
I mean, and you're begging to be done then. Yeah. When you're having babies, you're begging to be done. Wasn't that like 17 hours of labor with Brandon because he was so big? I think it was 17 with Brandon. You weren't very, Eli was quick. My water broke the night before and he was born within 24 hours. I was induced with both minds. So they were born that day. Cause Leland, I got induced at like five in the morning, but we did a slow pitocin.
00:51:42
Eden & Briana
because you had to take Eli to kindergarten orientation. ye And then she broke my water when you got back. And I think he was born at 528.
00:51:56
Eden & Briana
I think so. Because I brought el Eli back with me. He got to watch Leland be born. But I and just think about all the pain that my downstairs went through when I was delivering babies.
00:52:10
Eden & Briana
And that's nothing compared to and what she went through. I mean, can you imagine having a firecracker blow up in your butt? No. In your ear? No. In your mouth? No.
00:52:28
Eden & Briana
You're shaking your leg like you're pissed. I am pissed. I don't like this one. No. And it'll be a nice palate cleanser next week. Yes, we're doing updates on all of our cases next week. All of the cases, yeah. Do you want to split it up? You want me to do some of them? Maybe. We'll see. We can split it up so you don't have to do all the work. Because I think we're on episode 42. Oh, wait a minute. It is your case next week. yeah I mean, I can do it. I could just leave it all for you. Yeah. If you have any trouble finding something, then you can reach out to me. Maybe this one. You want me to do the update on this one? Yeah. Since the name changes. Yeah. I can do that.
00:53:07
Eden & Briana
kind of look up the Japan laws. Japan laws? Okay. Because I just want to know why their sentence was so light. Yeah. A slap. It was it was a yeah. I hope they got hell. I hope they get what they deserve. And you know what that is? Well, I wish they deserve torture. Like honestly, it's cases like this that I wish
00:53:39
Eden & Briana
Um, we lived back in the twenties and thirties. You can take them out back and shoot them and hang them and write a note death because of, I hear, him i you know, you know what I mean? I'm going to, I'm going to go to my violent side for a minute because everybody has one. If somebody did this to you and I knew who did it, there would be no need for a trial.
00:54:08
Eden & Briana
Maybe of your own. I wouldn't care at that point. Oh, yeah. They would pay and they would pay dearly. And then I would do time in jail, which is fine because then I could sleep all the time and eat three meals and not work. So, you know, whatever. I'm not condoning anything, but I am saying there would be some serious vigilante justice. Agreed. If anybody did that to one of my children.
00:54:38
Eden & Briana
And that's a warning. Stay the fuck away from my kids. know I don't know. And I'm not saying it's right either, but don't mess with my family. yeah I think the American justice system, I wouldn't have to worry. right I think that the book would be thrown at them. Bless you. But if they were to get a sentence of four to six years for what they did. I'd put myself in jail and find them. Damn right. If you, I'm not going to say, liked this case, go go look up the pictures, you guys. I don't feel that I did this case justice. Go look up the crime scene photos. Go look up the haunting image of her hair sticking out of the concrete barrel.
00:55:37
Eden & Briana

In most cases, they do. But in this case and many other cases, they don't. But this case was also 30 some years ago, 40 years ago. So yeah things are changing. things are Things are changing. But push, push, push, push.
