00:00:38
Briana

00:00:55
Briana
Sounds pretty good.
00:00:56
Eden & Briana
Okay, you're a little loud on my end.
00:01:01
Eden & Briana
There you go. That's better.
00:01:03
Briana
Okay, I just needed to back away from the mic.
00:01:06
Eden & Briana
Yeah, are am I too loud?
00:01:06
Briana
Is what you're saying?
00:01:09
Eden & Briana
ah Okay, perfect. Perfect. Perfect.
00:01:13
Eden & Briana
It's ah it's a little chai chai outside. So and we decided to forgo going out in this cold weather.
00:01:21
Briana
Yeah, good ol' negative 50 degrees.
00:01:26
Eden & Briana
Yeah, It's a little cold. i My poor dogs, they can barely get out and find a place to go to the bathroom before they're hiking their legs and wanting me to come pick them up.
00:01:36
Eden & Briana
Poor babies. Okay, you got anything to ask me? Do you remember?
00:01:43
Briana
This is, this is just weird. I don't like it.
00:01:46
Eden & Briana
I don't like it either.
00:01:46
Briana
no Um, what do you got for Trukim News?
Horrific Discovery in California
00:01:52
Eden & Briana
Okay, my true crime news is a little bit longer than normal, but I really liked the story and it kind of reminded me that Karma is out there and she's a bad-ass bitch and she will catch you sooner or later.
00:02:08
Eden & Briana
So it's kind of interesting. So in California, a new homeowner ah finds child sexual abuse materials in the walls leading to sentencing of father and son.
00:02:22
Eden & Briana
So allow me to elaborate. A 90 year old father and his 66 year old son will likely spend the rest of their lives behind bars for sexual acts they committed on children in the eighties and nineties.
00:02:39
Eden & Briana
These piles of shit got caught after a person purchased the house that they'd lived in for 40 some odd years. And the new owner was remodeling one of the outer buildings where they found explicit Polaroid photos and video tapes showing child abuse.
00:02:59
Eden & Briana
Yep. So for more information on this.
00:03:00
Briana
And a father and a son were doing that?
00:03:05
Eden & Briana
So for more, more information on this and other stories, you can head on over to true crime news.com. Yeah. Would you think of that one? That karma train man, she comes.
00:03:15
Briana
That's disgusting. But they're not gonna...
Karma and Justice: Reflections on Crime
00:03:20
Briana
Like, the dad is 90 years old already. Like, he got on with his life, and he's not gonna save that much.
00:03:28
Eden & Briana
oh I know that's the shitty part.
00:03:33
Briana
I am glad that they're caught.
00:03:36
Eden & Briana
They are going to pay up.
00:03:43
Briana
I hope they get treated like shit.
00:03:46
Eden & Briana
Well, yeah, you know what happens to and jerusalem Yeah, so so you know,
00:03:50
Briana
Yeah, I hear that child predators in jail don't do well.
00:03:58
Eden & Briana
yeah So we've, we've always got that to back up on. They'll get their due. If you guys hear jumping around, I told my littles to be quiet, but I'm in the basement. So, huh, there's that.
00:04:11
Briana
um What town did you say this was in?
00:04:15
Eden & Briana
My case or the true crime?
00:04:18
Eden & Briana
California. I didn't read a town or I did, but I can't remember what it was.
00:04:25
Eden & Briana
I want to say Arroyo Grande, but I could be wrong.
00:04:28
Briana
Oh, we just had a case there.
00:04:31
Eden & Briana
Yeah, what did we have there?
00:04:34
Briana
Who was it? It was a girl.
00:04:38
Briana
Eucalyptus. Grove.
00:04:41
Eden & Briana
Oh, ah it was yours.
00:04:48
Briana
Son of a biscuit. Who was that?
00:04:51
Eden & Briana
I don't know why I'll run together in my head.
00:04:53
Briana
Oh mine too, like I can't keep them straight.
00:05:06
Briana
I guess it doesn't really matter. but
00:05:13
Briana
but just can't remember who it was
00:05:17
Eden & Briana
Yeah, I can't off the top of my head either.
00:05:24
Briana
to I don't know. Anywho. So what are we doing today?
00:05:31
Eden & Briana
Well, first we're going to do you backing up from that mic.
00:05:36
Eden & Briana
That's better. Your voice carries better than mine.
00:05:41
Eden & Briana
So for this.
00:05:41
Briana
And usually I talk really quiet.
00:05:44
Eden & Briana
Yeah, you do good on mic. I don't know. What you drinking? What is that?
00:05:51
Briana
Just a McUltra shelter.
00:05:54
Briana
There's only one left, so I was like, ah, fuck it.
Meet the Adams Family: A History of Fostering
00:05:58
Eden & Briana
So we're going to do the um Adams family slayings. And this one was so heartbreaking to me because, oh, you'll see, it involves fostering.
00:06:17
Eden & Briana
And we know a lady that fosters and she's so good at what she does, but this is one of those gone wrong.
00:06:27
Eden & Briana
Yep, lovely.
00:06:28
Briana
All right, let's get in then.
00:06:29
Eden & Briana
Okay. All right, so for this episode, we're going to Looking Glass Oregon to the year 2017. So this case isn't real old.
00:06:42
Eden & Briana
Yeah. As per the 2010 census, the population of Looking Glass was 855. So pretty small.
00:06:51
Eden & Briana
It's like a suburb of a bigger town. um Happenings in 2017 included Sharknado 5 Global Swarming aired on sci-fi.
00:07:05
Eden & Briana
Have you watched any of those?
00:07:07
Eden & Briana
Oh God, they're dumb. Back up from the mic.
00:07:12
Eden & Briana
um ah An oil tanker collides with the USS John S. McCain near Singapore, injuring five US Navy sailors and leaving 10 missing. Hurricane Harvey makes landfall in Texas. And Katy Perry hosts the 2017 MTV Video Music Awards. Fashion trends in 2017 included bright colors, floral patterns. Oh, I like your binky.
00:07:46
Eden & Briana
Happy faces, nice. And romantic ruffles. Bubblegum pink was a popular color for clothing and accessories. And athleisure became a thing, which combined athletic clothing with comfort and style, which we all love. um Fanny packs, skinny scarves, and embroidered bombers were popular.
00:08:12
Briana
Nice, nice. The embroidered yammers are coming back now.
00:08:17
Eden & Briana
I was gonna say, not much has changed.
00:08:20
Briana
I wonder why I don't like pink.
00:08:20
Eden & Briana
And pink has always been my favorite color. So there's that. I know you don't like it. I do. I've been leaning towards teal a little bit lately, but still pink is my color.
00:08:34
Eden & Briana
I don't know.
00:08:36
Briana
It just bothers me.
00:08:37
Eden & Briana
Your weird pink bothers you.
00:08:40
Briana
Yeah, like I don't know why. It just bothers me. I don't know.
00:08:47
Eden & Briana
Look, even my thing is pink. Hmm. Okay.
Challenges in Foster Care: The Adams Family's Struggles
00:08:53
Eden & Briana
So and Robert and Donia Adams lived in Looking Glass, Oregon on 10 acres in a house that they built themselves and where they raised their two daughters, Vienna. And now this name is hard and it shouldn't be that hard. It's like armory without the R in it. So armory.
00:09:21
Briana
Yeah. Or maybe it's another way of spelling Emory.
00:09:26
Eden & Briana
Yeah, I don't know.
00:09:28
Eden & Briana
It's A-M-O, it's A-M-O-R-Y.
00:09:28
Briana
am Maybe it's Amory.
00:09:32
Eden & Briana
Beautiful name, but I just don't know how they pronounce it.
00:09:38
Eden & Briana
Well, that's what I would think, Amory, because it it's spelled like armory, just take the R out. So armory, amory, amory.
00:09:47
Eden & Briana
I'm going to wing it. In 2006, Robert's brother and his wife were in the midst of losing their children to the state. They both had serious drug addictions and their two children, Kathleen, age six and Kevin, age five, endured horrific neglect and abuse. There was no detail on the abuse, but other than it was everything you could imagine and horrific.
00:10:19
Eden & Briana
um With both of their girls pretty much grown, Robert and Danya said, why not? And they opened their homes and hearts to Kathleen and Kevin. And they were actually relatives, so they called themselves a permanent foster.
00:10:37
Eden & Briana
A year later, once again, Robert and Danya opened their hearts and home to patients, and her nickname is Tia, so I will refer to her as Tia through the rest of this. and she would be the biological sister of Kevin and Kathleen.
00:10:55
Eden & Briana
So, yeah, so but drug addicts had another kid a year later and they took that one too.
00:11:06
Eden & Briana
Now, Donia was as close to a perfect mom as you can get. I mean, nobody's perfect, but she treated the foster kids as if they were their own. She took many classes and spent hours in interacting with therapists and other foster parents for, my phone is ringing for dumb,
00:11:31
Eden & Briana
for getting input on creating a safe and healing environment for the children. So, I mean, she was all in, she was invested. This was, she took,
00:11:45
Eden & Briana
She did everything she could to make a healthy environment for these kids so they could feel safe and loved and just do well.
00:11:55
Eden & Briana
I lost my spot. that Now, Kathleen and Tia adjusted well, and they actually really thrived.
00:12:04
Eden & Briana
Where, ke I'm sorry. Okay, I got, oh my gosh, I am failing today. I found my spot again. So Kevin failed. Um, he just, he, he didn't thrive and adjust like the other two did. When Kevin would fail to get his way, he would go into fits of rage that included biting, kicking, hitting, and spewing out obscenities. The majority of these attacks were on Dona and Omri.
00:12:44
Eden & Briana
Kevin would sometimes resort to smearing his shit all over the walls or take scissors and cut up all Donia's clothes.
00:12:57
Eden & Briana
By the time Kevin reached his junior high is junior year in high school, his behavior just wasn't any better. The whole family walked on eggshells around Kevin because they didn't know what would send him into a fit of rage.
00:13:13
Eden & Briana
Things were so bad, Donia actually said to her sister, quote, you'll find us slaughtered in our beds one morning, unquote.
00:13:28
Eden & Briana
So Donia's sister brought up the possibility of placing Kevin into state care. And Donia flat out refused this idea stating, quote,
00:13:41
Eden & Briana
If Kevin can't get the love he needs from his family, then who will love him?" unquote Now, Dania did reach out to the Oregon Department of Human Services looking for options, resources, or at least to be pointed in the right direction.
00:14:00
Eden & Briana
Guess how that went?
00:14:02
Briana
I'm assuming it didn't.
00:14:05
Eden & Briana
They didn't even bother to return her phone calls.
00:14:14
Eden & Briana
She did not get not one single return phone call from them.
00:14:19
Briana
And I wonder if he didn't have some effects from his parent being on drugs.
00:14:30
Briana
Because like working in the school system, there's a lot of behaviors, autisticness, autism, I guess, from their parents being on drugs.
00:14:56
Eden & Briana
while they were pregnant.
00:15:00
Eden & Briana
Okay. It didn't state that in here. Now, I can only guess that more facts about this will come out later. I mean, there's not even, there's not a whole lot out there.
00:15:12
Eden & Briana
So i'm I'm guessing that more information will come out in a few years, like how, you know, ah testing and shit like that.
00:15:23
Eden & Briana
But as I couldn't find anything that stated that that she did do drugs while she was pregnant, but one could assume if they're that hard into addiction, one could almost assume that the possibility is there.
00:15:40
Eden & Briana
um So on November 6th, 2017, by this time, Kevin is 16 years old and He showed up at school with a Ruger 22 caliber pistol in his backpack, bragging to his friends that he got it off his dad who was stupid enough to leave the key to the gun cabinet hanging in the kitchen. Now, what I find hard to believe is that not one of these kids that witnessed this child having a gun in school reported it to any of the school staff.
00:16:18
Eden & Briana
It went unreported.
00:16:20
Briana
I mean, I could see them being scared and not wanting to you know get shot by him because he taled they tattled.
00:16:31
Briana
You know what I mean? um But yeah, if you hear or say something, you gotta say it.
00:16:39
Eden & Briana
Right. So on November 7th, Robert left home to attend a meeting. That's the dad. And a couple hours later, he returned to find Kevin standing outside in the cold in front of their house. Kevin immediately said, quote, don't go in there, call the police, unquote. Robert rushed past Kevin and into the home and his life would never be the same again.
A Tragic Turn: Crime and Consequences
00:17:10
Briana
So the boy the boy said to the dad, don't go in there?
00:17:10
Eden & Briana
Don, yep. And for him to call the police. No, of course he didn't listen. and He went past and he went in. He found Danya in the lounge with eight gunshot wounds to her back, shoulder, arm and head. Tia attempted to hide, but Kevin found her in her parents' bathroom and As per Kevin, she said, quote, please don't, unquote, as he raised the gun and fired three shots into the 10-year-old's head. Amory was found with seven gunshot wounds to her back and her head.
00:18:00
Eden & Briana
Yep. Now, although Kevin was so, he confessed immediately. They took him into custody. And although Kevin was sentenced to a 60 year jail term, Oregon had recently passed a law that favored juvenile offenders. So Kevin would literally be eligible for parole in 12 years. The Dona Adams family were understandably outraged by the sentence. Galen Olson, who is Dona's sister, said, quote,
00:18:36
Eden & Briana
I don't know that he can be rehabilitated. The anger and resentment at the world in general is so strong." unquote Judge William Marshall said he was, quote, left with what the legislation has done and what you have done.
00:18:55
Eden & Briana
I don't have a lot of choice about the sentence in this matter, no matter what my feelings are and what the end result is, unquote. So even the judge wasn't happy about the 12 year thing.
00:19:07
Eden & Briana
Now, as far as human service failing, the state of Oregon agreed to pay $1.7 million dollars to settle claims that they were that they were partly at fault for the murders. So basically, negli you know they were negligent in holding up their end of trying to help. So they did come to that settlement there. rob Robert Adams, Spoken Court,
00:19:37
Eden & Briana
with just profound grief saying, quote, I look back at the last two and a half years with great sorrow, what could have been and with emptiness at what can never be. He described Tia as a dynamic, intense little girl who could have been a mother, a teacher, or a doctor. We shall never know. Tia would have been 13 years old in 10 days. Instead, she lies dead in a grave at your hands.
00:20:04
Eden & Briana
Of Amory, he said she was so full of love for the elderly and animals. She would be 29 today. Our Dhamdi would have likely been preparing music for church services and praying for Kevin. What was the future for this talented, caring, faithful woman who gave of herself for others? What would she be doing today?" Unquote.
00:20:28
Eden & Briana
Kevin did seem to express remorse stating, quote, if there was a way to go back and stop this from ever happening, I would, I know I completely deserve my punishment and worse, and I take it willingly. Unquote. There was never a motive given.
00:20:57
Briana
I wonder if they're gonna do like any tests.
00:21:02
Eden & Briana
psychological testing.
00:21:05
Eden & Briana
That's, that's what I was getting at in the beginning, you know, years later, there might be like results available because it's only been, it's 2017. It's only been, it hasn't even been 10 years yet.
00:21:17
Eden & Briana
So if they have done anything, which you would think they had, but who knows, maybe some of that information will come out later.
00:21:28
Briana
Yeah. I hope it does.
00:21:31
Eden & Briana
But that's my case, even though it was pretty small.
00:21:38
Briana
Wow. How sad too. Because a lot of, and it sucks, because a lot of foster homes aren't good.
00:21:50
Briana
They have kind of that bad reputation going for them.
00:21:57
Briana
And it's very few that are good and they get taken away by like this.
00:22:03
Eden & Briana
Yep. Yep. Her, their heart was, they were in it for all the right reasons.
00:22:12
Eden & Briana
They were in help, they were in it to give them a safe place, save them from the abuse and neglect that they had been through.
00:22:19
Eden & Briana
And I, it's heartbreaking.
00:22:26
Eden & Briana
I always, I always thought I would love to foster, but then when I do read horror stories like this, it's like you would sleep with one eye open, I think, because you just don't know.
00:22:41
Eden & Briana
It's so scary. The damage that these poor kids go through before they even reach the foster care.
00:22:53
Eden & Briana
Some of it's got to be just horrific. But then you have people like me that are almost scared to open their door to that. because things like this, it's like a double-edged sword.
00:23:09
Eden & Briana
I don't know. So what do you think?
00:23:18
Eden & Briana
Yeah, they were a good family.
00:23:24
Eden & Briana
And now Robert is just, Robert and Vienna are left without their wife, their mother, their sister, all of it for no reason. Kind of like biting the hand that feeds you.
00:23:48
Briana
And I just have a feeling like with the drug issue being as bad as it is, I feel like it's just going to be more common that these kids are very troubled.
00:24:09
Eden & Briana
Look at the amount of when you guys were in school, they didn't even need pairs.
00:24:19
Eden & Briana
Look at the amount of pairs that we need in our school systems now. Do you think that correlates with with the drug use in the states or do you think there's correlation?
00:24:28
Briana
Absolutely. Oh, yeah, absolutely. I mean, I see it every day. I mean, on a daily basis, I'm getting hit, kicked, scratched, my hair pulled. um And they are from They come from addicts as parents.
00:25:00
Eden & Briana
that is That is so devastating.
00:25:04
Briana
It is. it's It's really hard to, like, I have a special needs son.
00:25:14
Eden & Briana
And you you did everything right through your whole pregnancy.
00:25:14
Briana
Granted, I wasn't on drugs or anything. but
00:25:21
Briana
And then like, not all of it is drug related, but like, you know, you get parents that their kids are diagnosed and then they just don't want them anymore. And it, you see a lot of shit in the school system.
00:25:46
Eden & Briana
I couldn't. It breaks my heart.
00:25:51
Briana
it's It's hard to watch because I think that's where I was going with that. I look at my kids, all three of them, and any like nobody would ever take them away from me.
00:26:11
Briana
I would fight tooth and nail, even having a special needs kid.
00:26:11
Eden & Briana
Right. Yeah.
00:26:17
Briana
And then you see these kids in the school system and, you know, their moms didn't want them. Um, they were drug addicts and they kept relapsing. Um, you know, so you see these kids with their family members or foster and you definitely see the behaviors and the effects of what they go through.
Coping with Trauma and Adversity
00:26:46
Briana
for what they've been through.
00:26:50
Eden & Briana
No matter what the statistics are, it would be interesting.
00:26:55
Eden & Briana
I don't know.
00:26:57
Eden & Briana
It's just heartbreaking because if I just wonder what he was thinking, what was so bad, I mean, not the before, but what was so bad in the foster home that that he took it out on people that were genuine went genuinely providing a safe, healthy environment.
00:27:37
Briana
How they're wired.
00:27:41
Eden & Briana
frontal lobe again?
00:27:45
Eden & Briana
Underdeveloped.
00:27:46
Eden & Briana
It's not working correctly. Tap out. We need to put, we need an off button.
00:27:54
Eden & Briana
From the age of like 13 until they're like frontal lobe develops, we need to be able to shut them off and shut them off.
00:28:04
Eden & Briana
Hey, let's shut them off for a few years.
00:28:09
Eden & Briana
If all right.
00:28:13
Eden & Briana
And then, but it's so weird that some kids go through what Kevin went through. and even worse and they come, yeah, they they they look at the glass half full instead of empty and they make the best of everything.
00:28:23
Briana
And they made a life for themselves. There was a, I really like resonated with it. There's There was a picture, I think, on one of the social medias. It's two kids watching their alcoholic parents. There's two paths. You can break the cycle or you can follow footsteps.
00:28:58
Briana
And one of one kid chose to break the cycle and one chose to stay with it. And it just, I think a lot of it has to do with like perspective.
00:29:14
Briana
It is so, so, so easy to be negative.
00:29:21
Eden & Briana
It is. It's harder to be positive.
00:29:25
Eden & Briana
Knock off your mic, babe.
00:29:26
Briana
Oh, you have to train yourself. I'm just trying to get closer to you you.
00:29:34
Briana
You literally have to, because I struggled with this after a really, really bad relationship I had. I was always so negative that I had to retrain my brain into being positive.
00:29:51
Briana
And let me tell you, that was the hardest thing I ever fucking did but it made me a better person today.
00:30:02
Briana
So if you're able to retrain your brain to be more positive than negative, it it'll change you.
00:30:15
Eden & Briana
Yep, it will. It absolutely will.
00:30:18
Briana
yeah And it's it's rare.
00:30:19
Eden & Briana
You get ye get what you put out there. if you If you walk into a room all negative, people can feel your energy.
00:30:33
Eden & Briana
You give out vibes.
00:30:39
Eden & Briana
I mean, I can walk into a room and tell you who's pissy and who's not.
00:30:46
Eden & Briana
I don't know. And you know, it's hard to be around people that are negative, too.
00:30:52
Eden & Briana
It's terrible.
00:30:53
Briana
People just thrive off being negative and I'm like,
00:30:53
Eden & Briana
I hate it. No. And it's like, no, no, no, no, no, no. It's kind of like that story where, yeah, it's kind of like that story where you throw a kid in two different kids in a freaking room with a pile of manure and tell them to clean it up.
00:31:01
Briana
you And it wears you out.

One kid's going to just bitch and moan about it because you've got to clean up shit and the other kid's gonna dig and dig and dig because in his brain where there's this much shit there's got to be a horse in there somewhere it's just yeah if you can i've learned that too like i've been trying to be more positive about everything like even when i spill water on the floor it's like
00:31:46
Eden & Briana
Well, now there's a clean spot on the floor. Cool.
00:31:50
Briana

00:31:56
Briana
Like the dogs, I bought a specific suction cup bowl, water dish.
00:32:05
Eden & Briana

00:32:09
Briana
The other day, it was tipped over all over the rug, all over the floor, and I'm like, how did you guys do this? not to but It's supposed to be spill proof.
00:32:23
Briana
And I just laugh about it instead of getting pissed off, because why get pissed off over...

00:32:57
Eden & Briana
And I came home and yeah, my carpet was already trashed. She let the dog bring a stick in from outside and it chewed it up all over the living room. And it's like, oh man, I just put my sweating energy into this.
00:33:12
Eden & Briana
And I just shook my head and let it, ah, no big deal, I can clean it up.
