Eden & Briana: What's up, bitches? We're back. We're back. We're back. We're back. Well, welcome back to a... You good?

Eden & Briana: yes Another episode of Minors of Mayhem, a true crime podcast that deep dives into minors who commit murder. Yeah. I am your co-host, Brianna, and with me is my mother, Eden. Hello.

Eden & Briana: Hello. hello Yeah. Hello.

Eden & Briana: You got that what? Nothing. What? Just waiting to spring a surprise for you. Well, spring it. The spring has been sprung. Okay. Remember I said I was going to look into Timothy Hochschultz?

Eden & Briana: Yeah. know I did it. And? Do you want me to pull it out? Yeah. Let's do it real quick. There's nothing quick about it. Oh. Okay.

Eden & Briana: So if you haven't listened to episode 46, go do that before you listen to this update. It's a very infuriating case to see the least say the least. and I'm tripping over my own tongue.

Eden & Briana: or That'll be me too. So just a quick recap. just a quick I was just going to say, can we do a little recap here? Yep. The case revolves around the tragic 2018 death of seven-year-old Ethan Hochschultz in Manitowoc County. And I said that wrong. Sorry, Wisconsin.

Eden & Briana: Timothy Hochschultz, Ethan's great uncle and legal guardian, is accused of ordering severe punishment that led to the boy's death from hypothermia and blunt force trauma.

Eden & Briana: Yep. Yep. The incident written involved extreme physical abuse disguised as as discipline. And if you remember right, Timothy's son, Damien, was the one that carried out much of the abuse, while Timothy's wife, Tina Hochschilds, failed to intervene in any of the ongoing mistreatment. So...

Eden & Briana: so This case has highlighted a lot of um failures in child protective services. As Ethan was placed with the family despite Timothy's prior history of child abuse.

Eden & Briana: Yeah, that's... That was one of the infuriate infuriating things about this case. Yeah. Ethan's autopsy determined the cause of death is hypothermia exacerbated by extensive extensive blunt force trauma to the head, chest, abdomen, and a rib fracture.

Eden & Briana: Reports indicated ongoing abuse in the household, including prior incidents of physical physical harm and neglect. So three of the family members were arrested in 2019 after Ethan was... Remember he put him in that slushy mighty puddle? Yep.

Eden & Briana: And that... Yeah. Okay. um So that would have been Timothy and his wife, Tina. Good.

Eden & Briana: And... the at the time of the incident Damien who was the 14 year old who carried out the abuse yep okay Tina well Damien he was charged as an adult with first degree reckless homicide and other counts related to physical abuse Tina, the wife, was charged with child abuse for failing to prevent bodily harm and mental harm to Ethan based on her awareness of the abusive environment.

Eden & Briana: And then Timothy, of course, was charged with eight felonies, including party-to-felony murder, child neglect resulting in death, and three counts of child abuse intentionally causing harm and intentionally contributing to the de delinquency of a child resulting in death.

Eden & Briana: prosecutors alleged he he ordered the punishments and failed to protect Ethan so Damien the 14 year old was sentenced to 20 years in prison followed by 10 years of extended supervision Tina was sentenced to five years in prison in prison now Timothy as of this time has not been to trial There have been numerous delays due to appeals, witness availability issues, and rejected plea deals.

Eden & Briana: In November 2025, a judge rejected a proposal a proposed Alford plea that would have avoided additional prison time. Another plea attempt was denied in February 2025. His trial was initially set for February 2026, which just last month.

Eden & Briana: but was again postponed after both sides agreed Damien's testimony is critical pending his post-conviction proceedings. So now there is a status conference scheduled for March 18th, and potentially they'll come out of that with a new trial date again.

Eden & Briana: i don't personally agree with Tina's sentence. and sentence To the five years? Yeah. I don't. She watched it happen.

Eden & Briana: She knew damn well what was going on. She turned her head. I don't agree with that at all. But it's funny that you did a ah and update from Wisconsin. Uh-oh. How come?

Eden & Briana: Because my case is based out of Wisconsin. And believe it or not, This is a recent case. Okay.

Eden & Briana: Yeah. I'm intrigued. Well, you got to ask me another important question first. I'm avoiding that one like the plague because i didn't go look, but I know you warned me that it's rough. It is. Okay. What do we, what do we do in true crime news? Wait a minute.

Eden & Briana: Did you do fashion trends or beginning of the month? Isn't this our first one of the month? Yep. Great. I'll do it next time. Okay. ah What you got for true crime news?

Eden & Briana: Let me take a drink of water first. When we do true crime news,

Eden & Briana: they are very... a lot of the time, they're heavy. no. This one...

Eden & Briana: made me tear up which has not happened yet with me writing true crime news trust me i have a lot of empathy sympathy all of the things i feel all of the feels in other ones but this one for some reason stabbed me great so no No.

Eden & Briana: I think I'm going to nope out. Nope. In Minneapolis, Minnesota, Jennifer Stately was found guilty on five counts of murder and one count of arson in connection with the 2024 deaths of her two children According to the U.S. Attorney's Office, evidence at her trial showed Jennifer attacked two of her sons, Remy, age 6, and Tristan, age 5, with a knife.

Eden & Briana: She fatally stabbed Remy before setting the house on fire. The arson investigation showed that Jennifer started three fires with lighter fluid and gasoline at exit and entry points of the home to prevent Tristan escaping, and he died of smoke inhalation.

Eden & Briana: She fled the home with her three-year-old son, Ethan, who had burns 95% of his body. Ethan had not been changed or washed in the days when he was found with his mother.

Eden & Briana: Also, his teeth were so rotten that he couldn't even eat properly.

Eden & Briana: Now...

Eden & Briana: Imagine being Tristan at five years old, watching his mom stab his brother and setting the house on fire.

Eden & Briana: Just put yourself there for a second. Why is mommy doing this to me and my brother? Are we not loved by her? Why weren't we good enough?

Eden & Briana: I couldn't imagine. I could not. Okay. Oh, I didn't. I wasn't shushing you. No, I was. say Okay. i'm think I'm in my head.

Eden & Briana: Remy's obituary described him

Eden & Briana: as a fun-loving boy who loved his siblings and the movie Toy Story. Tristan's described him as protective of his brother's.

Eden & Briana: For more information on this story, you can find it at truecrimenews.com.

Eden & Briana: I do not have words.

Eden & Briana: Yeah.

Eden & Briana: I just couldn't.

Eden & Briana: As a mom.

Eden & Briana: Even like growing up. When me and my brother, and this was back in the day, let me tell you, back in the day, times are different. But when you used to spank us, you would go to the next room and cry.

Eden & Briana: i know. ah it hurt me as ah It hurt me probably worse than it did you. You know what i mean? It sucked. It sucked. Yeah.

Eden & Briana: But you needed something.

Eden & Briana: Sorry, I'm... Trying to get situated here. So that's, ah yeah, that's that.

Eden & Briana: oh Wow. If you need help, just reach out. Like as hard as it is. Trust me, I know I've been there. But get help before it's too far.

Eden & Briana: i mean so How how's the one that was 95%? There's no update on that on him.

Eden & Briana: I'm assuming he's in the burn center.

Eden & Briana: But I don't know if he's succumbed to his injuries or if he's stable. I don't know.

Eden & Briana: I'll have to write it down for next week and give you an update if I can. Or keep an eye on it. And he was three? Mm-hmm. Three, five, and six.

Eden & Briana: Three, five, and six.

Eden & Briana: Mm-hmm. That's the fun age. I know. That's the best. But I want to know.

Eden & Briana: this three-year-old whose teeth were so rotten that he could not eat properly, what were the shape of the other two boys in? And why, i mean, there's a lot we don't know, but like what, why was nothing reported?

Eden & Briana: Because five and six, that's they should have kindergarten and first grade. Yeah. Yep. Or can both kindergarten. Mm-hmm.

Eden & Briana: It makes you wonder. Like, it makes you want to know more. There's got to be a story there somewhere. I mean, what? I'm sure we'll find out when she

Eden & Briana: when more information comes out. but That could be forever. Yeah. Who knows? Wow. That one's just off. that

Eden & Briana: Yep. Thank you so much. That was just great. You're welcome. This case I'm going to cover is...

Eden & Briana: i'm i'm not going to downplay it. It's rough. But think the true crime news was a little bit more sad than... Well, no, you can't really compare.

Eden & Briana: i shouldn't say that. i know where i know what you're i know what you're thinking. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I get what you're... Yeah, you can't. Yeah. I don't know how you could compare.

Eden & Briana: i mean, they're both tragedies, just in their different way. So what are we doing today? We are going to be discussing the case of Noah Mann Tate.

Eden & Briana: I don't know this case. That's fairly new. Okay. um It happened in 2022. Okay.

Eden & Briana: phone Oh yeah, it's fine. I better clear that though. So anyways, let's get into it. What year what year was your true crime news? what What year did she do that? She did it in 2024. Okay. Yep.

Eden & Briana: Alright.

Eden & Briana: Yes. So anyways. Noah Q. Mann-Tate, a young boy from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, at 10 years old in November 2022, was charged with first-degree intentional homicide of his mother, Quiana Mann.

Eden & Briana: What? This case has become a focal point in discussions about juvenile justice, mental health, and the boundaries of accountability for children.

Eden & Briana: So let's get into Noah's early life and family background. Yeah. How you start like that? Just to get the grab. I'm just like, what now?

Eden & Briana: Yeah. You skipped a whole story here. No, I didn't. Okay. Um, Little is publicly known about Noah's early childhood due to privacy protections for minors that really limit the release of personal details. But Noah was born around 2012. didn't 2012 or 2012. Born around 2012. 2012.

Eden & Briana: i didn't know whether to's say two thousand twelve or twenty twelve born around two thousand and twelve Noah grew up in Milwaukee, a city that has high rates of poverty and also violence in certain neighborhoods.

Eden & Briana: Noah lived with his mother, Quiana Mann, a 44-year-old woman who was described as a dedicated mother and his older sister. Huh?

Eden & Briana: What? Oh, along with an older sister? Yeah. Okay. Yeah. Noah lived with his mother, Quiana Man, a 44-year-old woman who was described as dedicated mother and his older sister.

Eden & Briana: And also, however you want to word it. He lived with his mom and his sister, okay? For a minute there, I thought his mom, but his mom was his sister.

Eden & Briana: That was going through my head the way it came out. I'm like, wait, what? I guess i I didn't proofread. Okay, perfect. Family members described the household pretty normal with some underlying tension from Noah showing behavioral issues from a young age.

Eden & Briana: According to statements from Noah's family...

Eden & Briana: According to statements from Noah's family, they reported several concerning incidents that shown early signs of psychological distress. Okay.

Eden & Briana: I'm gonna, I know we have a trigger warning in the beginning, but this is a trigger warning for animal abuse. No. At this moment. Son of a.

Eden & Briana: When he was just four years old, Noah allegedly picked up his puppy and swung it around by its tail. Now, this is already extremely alarming because most serial killers or killers...

Eden & Briana: in their childhood have found enjoyment out of torturing and hurting animals. Very correct. So his older sister described Noah as him having quote unquote rage issues.

Eden & Briana: oh And recounted an episode where about six months before the death of their mother, Noah filled a balloon with flammable. do you say flammable or flammable? Flammable. Liquid. Set it on fire.

Eden & Briana: And that caused damages to their couch and their carpet. Oh my. When Noah's mother confronted him about it, about the incident, Noah simply blamed his sister.

Eden & Briana: Oh, okay. So already we are seeing a pattern with his impulsive and destructive behavior. Mm-hmm. Court documents also state that Noah had imaginary friends and that he was also seeing a therapist. Mm-hmm.

Eden & Briana: Noah's family dynamics were obviously strained. Even his relatives expressed fear and uncertainty about Noah's actions.

Eden & Briana: Noah's maternal aunt Rhonda Reed told investigators quote, we just don't know what his mental state is and what he's capable of unquote.

Eden & Briana: Okay. His grandmother Louretha Mann added that Noah was quote, roamer, unquote, who liked to wander at night, making her feel unsafe.

Eden & Briana: Quote, we have to sleep at night, so I'd be a little scared, unquote. Oh, my. And just as a side note. and it'll make sense here in a little bit, um but these statements were made shortly after the incident.

Eden & Briana: Okay. Yeah.

Eden & Briana: Speaking of the incident, are you ready to dive right in I suppose.

Eden & Briana: The tragic event happened on November 21st, 2022. According to the criminal complaint, Noah's mother woke him up around 6 a.m. that morning. Okay.

Eden & Briana: And at some point, Noah must have asked his mother to buy him a VR headset. Okay. When Noah's mom said no...

Eden & Briana: Noah became very outraged. Okay. Noah went to his mom's bedroom and retrieved a gun from a locked safe that he just happened to know where the keys were, went downstairs to the basement where his mother was doing laundry,

Eden & Briana: and Noah then shot his mother in the face. What?

Eden & Briana: He's 10? Yep.

Eden & Briana: And

Eden & Briana: it was confirmed by the medical examiner that it was at close range.

Eden & Briana: Wow. Okay. So, at first, Noah told police that the gun discharged accidentally while he was twirling it on his finger.

Eden & Briana: I'm sorry, but no mother is going to let their child twirl a gun around their finger. here Never. That is not gun safety. And she obviously knows about gun safety because she has her guns locked away in her bedroom.

Eden & Briana: But how did he how did you find the key? I don't know. Okay.

Eden & Briana: um

Eden & Briana: He later did admit to lying about the gun twirling on the finger. After the shooting, Noah went and woke up his sister, who discovered their mother's body and called 911.

Eden & Briana: When police arrived, they found Quiana quiana

Eden & Briana: deceased from the gunshot wound. At first, Noah was allowed to stay with family members. What? Yep. So that's why she was afraid.

Eden & Briana: That's why his grandmother was afraid to go to sleep at night.

Eden & Briana: But Noah was arrested the following day after his relatives reported additional alarming behavior, including playing with the lighter and making comments about hearing weird voices.

Eden & Briana: Wow. In 7 Chicago... abc seven chicago um said the motive, as outlined in investigative reports, centered Noah's frustration over the denied VR headset, a seemingly sorry trivial trigger that escalated into unimaginable violence.

Eden & Briana: This detail has...

Eden & Briana: i can't read my handwriting, hang on.

Eden & Briana: Oh, okay. This detail has fueled debates about the influence of technology, parenting, and mental health on young children.

Eden & Briana: Under a Wisconsin law, children aged 10 or older accused of first-degree intentional homicide fall under the original jurisdiction of adult criminal court.

Eden & Briana: Okay. That was quote lawjustia.com. Okay. Yeah. logjutia dot com okay um Noah was charged as an adult on January 19, 2023, with first-degree intentional homicide facing a potential sentence of up to 60 years in prison if if he was convicted.

Eden & Briana: A court order initially protected his identity and prohibited media from showing his face, but the order was lifted as the proceedings advanced.

Eden & Briana: Noah's defense team challenged his competency and tried to get a reverse waiver to juvenile court under, i don't know, I'm going to try my best, Wisconsin Statute 970.0321.

Eden & Briana: nine seven zero dot zero three two

Eden & Briana: something. Parentheses to. Okay. That. that Arguing that adult proceedings were inappropriate given his age and needs.

Eden & Briana: The statute requires the juvenile to prove by a preponderance of evidence that treatment in the adult system would be inadequate, that transfer would not depreciate the seriousness of the defense, the offense, the offense, and that retention in adult court is unnecessary for deterrence.

Eden & Briana: So basically they're saying that um

Eden & Briana: he should go to juvenile court because of his age and that he wouldn't get rehabilitation in adult court.

Eden & Briana: I think that's pretty much what meant. Because i I don't follow, like, I did not do well in history and, like, the laws and stuff.

Eden & Briana: So, like, reading from law.justia.com was, like, very difficult for me. But I and but it i felt like it was an important important part. Yeah, so I'm like, oh, I don't know.

Eden & Briana: So I do apologize if I'm a little slow on that. um Anyways, the circuit court found Noah competent and denied to denied the reverse waiver in November 2024, highlighting the premeditated nature of the crime despite acknowledging his age as a compelling factor.

Eden & Briana: Good point. Yeah.

Eden & Briana: Noah appealed. Of course. stating that the statue

Eden & Briana: I lost one place. Stating the statute violated due process by failing to mandate consideration of juveniles' unique attributes, including immaturity, susceptibility.

Eden & Briana: Get it. o Words are so hard. Suscessibility. That's me. Say cinnamon. No.

Eden & Briana: can't. Stop. This is serious. Okay. Sorry. Say it for me. I can't see what you're reading. Susceptibility. Susceptibility. Susceptibility.

Eden & Briana: Can we start over? No. Okay. um Stating that the statute violated due process by failing to mandate consideration of juveniles' unique attributes, including immaturity.

Eden & Briana: Susceptibility. To influences and rehabilitation. Wow. but What is happening in your mouth? to Do a tongue exercise. Rehabilitation potential as outlined in u s Supreme Court precedents like Roper versus Simmons, gray graham Graham versus Florida, and milliter Miller versus Alabama.

Eden & Briana: What is happening to you? I don't know. It's like my tongue is trying to read in cursive. Oh my god.

Eden & Briana: I've never seen you stumble over that many words in my life.

Eden & Briana: Brianna and you know what sucks but is I practice these words before we like as I'm writing my cases I practice words so I don't f them up you're so pretty fuck you fuck you sorry Brad a e e oh I am so sorry guys um at him

Eden & Briana: Talk for just a minute. i just need a Are you... Okay. um Susceptibility? Sustainability? Cinnamon? Rehabilitation? Not helping?

Eden & Briana: Fuck you. Is it raining? No, I think it's windy. All right. Okay. On February 3rd, 2026, the Wisconsin Court of Appeals reversed the circuit court's decision, holding that due process requires evaluating these youth-specific factors in reverse waiver hearings.

Eden & Briana: So they charged him. They wanted the reverse waiver. Denied. Denied. Appealed. Appealed. And now it's back to juvie.

Eden & Briana: Yes. Oh gosh. The case was reconsidered and could potentially result in Noah being transferred to juvenile court where rehabilitation would be the sole focus rather than him being incarcerated for a long period of time.

Eden & Briana: As of March, 2026, NOAA remains in custody with more hearings being anticipated. um This case has caused very intense debates, mainly on social media like Reddit and X, formerly known as Twitter, where people question the ethics of charging young children as adults.

Eden & Briana: Critics argue that Noah's actions, even though being horrific, stem from severe mental health issues and the history of his troubling behavior.

Eden & Briana: Supporters of adult prostitution

Eden & Briana: Adult prosecution emphasize the heaviness of the crime and the need for public safety. Noah's story has been compared to other cases of child violence that involve video games, denied privileges, highlight highlighting societal so right societal concerns about youth entitlement and the access to firearms.

Eden & Briana: So ultimately, this case is just another example that the need for early intervention, better mental health resources are so very crucial.

Eden & Briana: So I want to hear, are you against or with adult prosecution and why? Thanks. I'll tell you my side when I'm done, when you're done.

Eden & Briana: ah just want to hear yours. Well, the hard ass in me knows what I should say and what I want to say. You know, the hard ass part of me. Do the crime, got to pay the time.

Eden & Briana: He was old enough to premeditate to find them keys somewhere, take his happy little ass down in the basement, unlock that safe. The safe was in his mom's bedroom. Or wherever. But she was downstairs. Oh, she was downstairs in the basement. Okay. Well, yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Eden & Briana: Anyway, so that was all...

Eden & Briana: Now, put him in adult court. Does that completely take his option away from being rehabilitated? Or does that mean, does he go to a juvenile facility where there probably is rehabilitation and GEDs and all that shit?

Eden & Briana: And then when he turns 21, up him to the adult jail. But he still should be charged, you know, just regular. Yeah, I wonder, that's a good point. I wonder if there could be like,

Eden & Briana: A law that states, like...

Eden & Briana: Depending on the there might already be one. Right. that I suppose it's state. At a certain age, if you commit a certain crime, like, you have to go to juvenile, get... You have to do all of these things. And if you improve, you could stay in like, a Halfway house? Like a halfway house or, like, more...

Eden & Briana: focus on the rehabilitation and if they're doing absolutely terrible in juvenile that they just go straight to the straight to the big adult yeah prison i don't know okay so i say just adult that's me but go ahead

Eden & Briana: i too am with um

Eden & Briana: See, i'm I'm exactly where you are. The hard ass in me is like, no, send him. But he's 10 years old. I mean, he's 12 right now.

Eden & Briana: Is rehabilitation

Eden & Briana: a good chance for him to turn his life around?

Eden & Briana: A part of me, a lot of me, I should say, says no. Just because of the fact that at four years old, he was already committing animal abuse.

Eden & Briana: At four years old. So to me, it almost seems like rehabibilitation rehabilitation is too far of a reach.

Eden & Briana: So I do agree that you should be tried as an adult. That is so rough. It's tough because you, you like, if you're a a human being with a heart, you want the best for everyone. Exactly. Like, everybody. It doesn't matter who what, where, when.

Eden & Briana: Like, it doesn't matter. You always want the best for people. You want them to see you want to see them do good.

Eden & Briana: But his mother's six feet under and is never going to take a breath and never watch her children go and didn't, wasn't she doing the right things? He was in therapy. yes So...

Eden & Briana: It's tough. So she was aware that there was something. oh yeah. And it was enough for her to put him into some kind of therapy. It didn't really elaborate on what kind of therapy or what it was or. No, not that I found it.

Eden & Briana: o let us know what you guys think you can um email us at miners of mayhem at gmail.com you can find us on Facebook make sure to hit that follow button um yeah just let us know what side you're on and why we would love to hear i could sit here and pro and con that all day day long all Yep.

Eden & Briana: It's crazy. Oh, my gosh. um My sources for this case. There's quite a few of them. Law.justia.com.

Eden & Briana: Caselaw.justia.com. Vilex.com. and didn't I didn't know how to say Vilex or Vilex. Center for Health Journalism.org.

Eden & Briana: WISPD.com. Reddit. ABC7Chicago. WSCCA.WICourts.gov.

Eden & Briana: Facebook, X, and YouTube. You're right. You did have one hell of a list. I did. But I figured I'd...

Eden & Briana: That's just too much to type. I don't think even anybody's really worried about the resources, but like, you still gotta say them, you know? Right. Especially if you quote them.

Eden & Briana: So yeah, that's my case, and we hope to see you next week. Lately, life has kind of been throwing shitballs around. Don't you leave next week?

Eden & Briana: Oh. No. No, week after. I don't know. One of those days. I don't know either anymore.

Eden & Briana: We'll figure it out later. Yeah. It don't matter. don't know what the day But we'll try to get at least one more out. We should be able to. Yeah.

Eden & Briana: Okay, we love you. Goodbye. Bye.
